New York City Mudstock Meetup!
NYC Mudstock is fast approaching!
If you are anywhere in the New York Metro area, take this opportunity to meet your fellow Mudflatters from far and wide!
Date: Saturday, August 1 (This Saturday!!)
Place: The Frying Pan (a boat) at Pier 66 and the Westside Highway, NYC
Time: 3:00pm
I believe this will be the 8th Mudstock Meetup, and I always get great pictures and reports back. This is a fun way to connect up with a bunch of like-minded souls for great conversation and fun!
Local Big Apple Mudpups will be in attendance, as well as those from the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) and from as far away as Ireland! You won’t want to miss this opportunity. Mudstocks are fairly organic events that tend to pop up spontaneously like mushrooms. There’s no particular schedule for when or where they happen, so if you’re in range, go for it and join your fellow travelers for an evening of merriment! Who knows when it may happen again.

Ed Sullivan Theater…? ( Letterman Studio )
Everybody posed under the infamous ‘ Palin Shrine ‘ would make for a verrrry funny picture.
Maybe some Mudpups can also ask some of the local New Yorkers what they think of the ‘ rumor ‘ that $arah may move there….? And capture the reaction in some pictures.
NY’ers are not shy… I’ll bet they would participate.
Tell them their picture will be all over the internet and Worldwide.
austintx–unfortunately, I already have all-weekend plans up on the mountain on the island (connected to that scouting trip last weekend). I’m sure we’ll get great reports and photos (and I esp. want to see one of bubbles with Brian and the jumbo shrimp!).

I was trying to figure out if Pier 66 was anywhere near the cruise ship terminals. It’s not — the cruise ship terminals are on Piers 84 to 97, 12th Ave & W 55th S. There’s a lot of places to walk and to see all along there, though.

I think we need to have a mudflats mushroom pop up in Canada!!!! I’m in Calgary, can we meet somewhere in the middle, or do we have a higher concentration of Canadian supporters on either coast?

SMR….I am in Manitoba, so would be up for a trip to Calgary. I have a brother who lives there…so would be easy for me.
What time frame are we looking at? I have always enjoyed your posts, and remembered you saying quite a while back you were moving to Canada. I had a “hunch” it was Calgary. Not too many other places..its kind of like our version of Dallas TX. How are you enjoying it? You will find the Chinook winds during the winter take the sting out of the cold.
There are quite a few Canadian puppies I would love meet. Canadian Neighbout, (Toronto) John, (Nova Scotia) A problem child..not quite sure where she/he is from…but love the posts. I am sure there are many more, but perhaps a mid country meet up? My kids are grown, so all I need is enough time to plan for time from work….buy a plane ticket and away I go.
I really am going to Alaska next summer though. We have (hubby and I) agreed…so it is set. Gotta meet those alaskan puppies.also..too

Has there ever been a meet-up where you were just floored to find out a Mudpup was the opposite gender than you’d been imagining ?
For the most part I consider folks gender neutral if I don’t know for sure otherwise, but I bet I’d be surprised occasionally. I saw the other day that in the early days of Mudflats some readers assumed AKM was a “dude”.
I’m not going to make the NYC shindig but I sure am looking forward to pics and stories!

Eric and Yorkie may be able to joke about the NYC Mudpups meeting, but I am wondering seriously if it is an emergency meeting to discuss strategy regarding rumor that SHE and the fam will be coming their way? Ha. Ha. Just kidding myself (partly) – hope it won’t be necessary. I can’t be there (I live too far away) but go NEW YORK!

I love love love Calgary, it is too fantastic for words! I know cold — I’m not worried about the winters. Spring/summer/fall makes it all worth it. Alaska’s never-ending winters are not for me.
I am very flexible re: date & place in Canada. Is there a nice place somewhere in the middle, a nice small town that could be sort of a retreat &/or meeting place that would work for those living on either coast?
I should probably start a thread over on the forum about it, will do that within the next hour or two, so heads up Canadian mudfriends, let’s get together in real time and on the forum.
@Laurie & SMR: Fredericton & female. Not really likely to be able to make a scheduled western Canada mudstock, but if I’m ever out there, you’ll hear from me, you betcha!

@Laurie- that’s a good idea about a mudflats meet-up somewhere in the “middle” — EX: In the eighties, a former Alaskan living in Santa Barbara, CA, missed AK (moved to CA because of family illness), so he placed an ad in a local paper for former Aks to meet at a certain restaurant at a certain time, about 20 people showed up. It grew its membership to over 1,000 people, and held an annual convention in Las Vegas- because of cheap lodging- mostly retired Alaskans. They had speakers from Alaska. I went one year, former Gov. Sullivan was one of the speakers. The social group raised money for college scholarships for AK youth. The object was to stay connected to Alaska. I don’t know what happened to them, but they were alive and well in the mid-nineties.

I put up a new thread in the forum about a Canadian mudstock. Maybe we could make it work for some in the US who have been unable to make other mudstocks. There are several compelling reasons that I’m not able to make the NYC & Pittsburgh gatherings (which also preclude me from making the family reunion in NY this weekend, darn it). Waaaahhhhhh!

dear pups, this meetup has grown organically from me just planning to meet irishgirl for a sandwich and a walk through central park. i wanted to meet her and give her hug because she has always been friendly and kind to to me. like austin, she always greets me and makes me feel welcome when i check in to mudflats. from those early modest plans have come n.y.c. mudstock. we will have a wonderful time and we will raise a glass or two to akm and to all the mudpeeps. love bubs

Sarah, how about in honor of the American soldier, and us vets, ya start telling us the truth about Troopergate? When ya said ya didn’t know that Todd was talking to your administration people about firing a state trooper, it meant one of three things:
1. Todd was going behind your back and not telling you.
2. You knew, but misled the public.
3. You did not know what was going on in your own administration. Either way, it doesn’t cast a very flattering light on your ability to govern. So what do ya say? Could ya quit makin’ things up? About everything?
