Round Up – This & That

Heeere She Is….Miss Anti-America!

The Humor Gazette has a fascinating retrospective/forward looking view of the many titles of our ex-governor.  Her humble beginnings as Miss Wasilla, take an amusing turn…

After the election, the glamorous governor continued to tout herself for the title of Miss Understood. However, sources say she missed the national spotlight in Alaska, where her hopes for fresh pageant glory seemed limited despite repeated nominations for Miss Behavior and Miss Conduct.

The moment she announced her resignation, the foxy news-maker was widely hailed as Miss Leader. And now that she’s quit, most pundits consider her a sexy, high-heeled shoo-in for Miss Calculation.

>BWAP BWAP BWAP!< RUMOR ALERT!

The strangely vacant Democratic hole on the opposite side of the ballot from 19-term crooked-as-a-dog-leg Congressman for All Alaska Don Young may have a taker.  Rep. Harry Crawford (D) of East Anchorage may be thinking about throwing his hat in the ring after a recent trip to D.C.  There’s also speculation that Diane Benson may be giving it another shot.

Will She or Won’t She?

That was the question about Sarah Palin’s first post-gubernatorial appearance.  Now, after plucking the petals off a daisy as we chant ”she will,”  “no she won’t,”  “she will,”…  we have our answer.  No, she won’t.  Here’s the official announcement from her Facebook page, after weeks of everyone believing she’d be there.

Release Concerning Simi Valley Republican Women’s EventShare

As repeatedly stated to several in the media over the last week, former Governor Sarah Palin is not committed to attend the Simi Valley Republican Women’s event at the Reagan Library and in fact is not attending the event. Neither the Governor’s state staff nor SarahPAC has ever committed to attending this event or speaking at this event, and even requested that the Governor’s name be removed from the invitation several weeks ago. The Governor has other work and commitments to take care of at that time. She looks forward to visiting her friends in California soon.

All event requests must be confirmed with Meghan Stapleton of SarahPAC. Additionally, all invitations bearing the Governor’s name must be approved by her attorney before proceeding.

Thank you.
Meghan Stapleton

I wonder how long it will be before nobody invites her to speak anywhere ever.  And what will Meg Stapleton do now that she can’t blame “miscommunication” with the governor’s staff?

Let the Shredding Begin!

According to a recent Rassmussen survey, 75% of Americans think it’s time to audit the Federal Reserve and make the results known to the public.

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke in a town forum filmed on Sunday which is airing this week on PBS stations said he is strongly opposed to the audit legislation. “I don’t think the American people want Congress running monetary policy,” he said.

He must be talking about the 9% that think the audit is a bad idea.

She’s No Shannyn Moore.

On Monday, Inside Radio reported that former governor Sarah Palin’s representatives “have been quietly testing the watersto see how much interest radio syndicators have for her.” While Palin isn’t committed to radio, she is reportedly open to it as “a possible next step.” But the interest in her might not be as great as some had speculated. According to Broadcasting & Cable, Clear Channel Broadcasting, the country’s biggest radio conglomerate, has already turned Palin down because of fears that she wouldn’t be able to “hold forth for three hours a day.”

My biggest fear would have been that she would be able to hold forth for three hours a day.  When your biggest appeal is being a bright sparkly object with no substance, maybe radio just isn’t your calling.

Ordinance 64 – The Next Step

Mayor Sullivan needs to know that people in Anchorage support equality, he needs to know why you support equality, and he needs to hear that vetoing an ordinance to protect LGBT people from discrimination sends the message that he, as the Mayor of Anchorage, believes that LGBT people should be discriminated against in employment, housing, education, and public accommodations.  Please call or e-mail Mayor Sullivan and voice your support of Ordinance 64 at:   mayor(at)muni(dot)org or call (907) 343-7170 or (907) 343-7100 Please, remember to be respectful.

@18 Sue: Actually, we’re not supposed to refer to ex-Presidents as Mr President. We’re supposed to use their next-highest title (e.g., Gov Bush, Gov Clinton, Amb Bush, …) because there is only one President at a time.

Of course, everyone ignores this, including me.

However, it is Miss Manners etiquette to refer to former Governors as “Governor”.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. She has been way too quiet given the amount of humor we are enjoying at her expense (William Shatner, et al). Count me in the 9%. In precarious economic times, a bank may show low reserves (depending on loans out and loans due). An audit, made public, could show a bank bordering on insolvency one week (causing a bank run or upsetting markets ) and two weeks later (as loans due are re-paid) the same bank is solidly solvent. I understand the public’s concern, but where were the demands for these audits when Bush was President (especially during the Fall of 2008)? The Federal Reserve is doing a delicate balancing act right now.

Maybe she got a better offer than the Simi Event.

No way do I think those ladies made a mistake and issued an invitation saying Palin would attend unless there had been a conversation where she said she would. Their mistake is the same as so many others, which is taking her at her word. Republicans across the land are going to have to start distancing themselves from her in a bit way.
You don’t piss off the Regan Republican Womens group and remain a member of the Regan Republicans. yikes. Does anyone have a membership list for them? Very powerful, influential Republican women. Could Meg BE more of an idiot? Aside from this release blaming the media (again) and the group that invited her (she could have worded it graciously but instead thought rude and accusatory would make the ex.gov look better[?]), she then tacks on that above-quoted statement.

Even if true, you just don’t say something like that in a public press release! It is totally unnecessary to reveal that to the general public.

Meg is really lacking in judgement if she thinks that statement in any way is helping enhance the ex.gov’s reputation.

Note the responses of _Republicans_ to the question of what the best job for Palin is now: Most (27%) said “Vice-President”; but an amazing (to me) 18% said “homemaker”–more than said “talk-show host,” even.

Does this mean she has registered her name as a trademark brand, like McDonald’s, GM, etc? That her name is not to be used without expressed legal permission?

It seems to me that this confusion over will she or won’t she could be avoided, simply by making a decision and sticking to it. If I were the invitee, I would make darn sure I got a signed contract, so I could sue if she pulled out at the last minute because obviously her word doesn’t mean squat. During the campaign, it came to light that until 2000, police in some Alaska towns charged rape victims or their insurance companies up to $1,200 for forensic exams – including the town of Wasilla where vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin was mayor from 1996 to 2002.

SystemBucker @63 posted the link to the story I came on here to share. Apparently, SP was invited *in February* by the Simi women to speak; (as of 13 July): “Saraceno said she respected Palin’s right to change her plans at any time. She said in an e-mail that correspondence with the governor’s office has been “positive but cautious,” but she added, “we know she will come.” [ http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2009/jul/13/palin-expected-at-simi-gop-gala-group-says/ ]

I wonder if SP (and hangers-ons) will disavow ANY connection with any hemming-and-hawing about would she headline/speakattend or wouldn’t she headline/speak/attend the event put on by the *Semi Valley Republican Women*? If she/they hold true to form, they’ll paint the GOP women in Semi Valley as the bad guys in this one; as if the Semi Valley women had just ‘spung’ this on her and it wasn’t something the SP-cabal hadn’t known about since at least Feb.

Actually, TECHNICALLY, they [SP et.al.] would be 100% factual in making such a denial…the group putting on the event is *The Republican Women Federated of Simi Valley* ~~~ they are denying her agreeing to (or even encouraging) an event hosted by the *Simi Valley Republican Women* [her FaceBook 'disclaimer': "...former Governor Sarah Palin is not committed to attend the Simi Valley Republican Women’s event at the Reagan Library and in fact is not attending the event."]

Personally, I think she’s having some sort of emotional and/or mental breakdown. It’ll be interesting to see what emerges from all of this…and whether there’s -as I suspect- even *more* to the story (a doozie of a causal factor to her even-more-irrational-than-usual behavior and/or speech of late) that’ll soon be uncovered. beth.

Neither the Governor’s state staff nor SarahPAC has ever committed to attending this event or speaking at this event, and even requested that the Governor’s name be removed from the invitation several weeks ago. On the title: She shouldn’t be using it if she couldn’t handle the job and QUIT after only 1/2 the term. Others, who still use their titles, at least finished the job they were elected to do and THEN (for whatever reasons) found themselves to be “formers”. Only a pompous ass would quit a job due to inability and still want the glitz and glamor of the title (even though she doesn’t need a title to do great things for AK).

On the event: I’ll betcha she accepted and then, a week before the event, decided not to go. The group is too gracious and well mannered to make a big (public) deal of it, but SP had to make SURE SURE SURE that no one would construe this as being her “fault”. Meanwhile, the search is on for a replacement, they’ve probably lost airfare money, etc.

    Now come the questions:

If SP never committed to going, would a group of intelligent women in Simi Valley send out invitations indicating that she was speaking just on a “hope” that she would magically appear? Would they (I assume) prepare to accommodate her (air, hotel)? I think not.

If all invitations have to be “approved” by her lawyer (dumbest thing I’ve ever heard), then what on God’s Green Earth makes them think a ONE WEEK TURNAROUND is enough time to send invites?

In other words, they waited until NOW to confirm or decline. ONE WEEK before the event! How is ANY group supposed to pull together their event if there isn’t a definitive answer well ahead of ONE WEEK, much less print and send invitations that also too need to be RSVP’d for catering and what not (after, of course, being “approved” by Van Idiot)? This announcement should have been made WEEKS ago, especially KNOWING the group was expecting her as recently as three minutes ago.

This does NOT make sense. She confirmed and then backed out. She/Meg made up a story as how she never did say “yes” and the group decided to be gracious rather than snarky.

I just find it incredibly hard to believe that an entire event revolving around the SP Universe would be planned without confirmation from SP.

I also too find it in incredibly poor social grace to FINALLY decline one week prior to the event.

I too also find it a little less than believable that SP can’t carve out a few hours to jet in, give a speech, have a meal and get home to all her “business” of NOT being Gov without it disrupting her retirement too much.

Also… would LOVE to see her calendar for August 8th.

Any group would have to be STUPID to invite her to ANYTHING in the future. She is UNDEPENDABLE.

It is a puzzlement. It isn’t hard to believe that the Simi Valley Repo Women might have concluded that they weren’t going to be getting the GINO they had ordered (now being XGINO and subject to a certain amount of ridicule). That might have led them to discreetly disinvite her.

On the other hand, XGINO’s record of fulfilling her appearance commitments is not that terrific. I suppose one big clue would be if she shows up noticeably elsewhere on or about the date. If that happens, then I would tentatively conclude that she stiffed them. If not, I would tentatively conclude that they dumped her.

At this point, I’m leaning toward disinvitation, but we’ll see, eh?

We’ve been having this same conversation in my house. I said that when she flew in to observe the flood damage and Todd was in DC. Palin looked a complete wreck, complete with more than usual babble.

I know some of us have been putting out our opinions of just what disorders she displays. I remember being criticized on this blog by a “professional”, because even THEY would not make a diagnoses from a distance.

After watching Brittany Spears, Lindsey Lohan and other poor souls problems play out in the media, it’s not hard to tell anymore.

Weather it’s mental, emotional, drug or alcohol related the public know what is going on. We cannot avoid it because it’s on every news broadcast, in the newspaper and on the radio.

I can feel badly for many celebrities, but not the politicians. Politicians affect our lives directly and crave power with no regard for people.

When they blow appearances as consistentley as Palin, it is usually a VERY serious problem.

When she stepped down spouse said it was a melt down and observed at her last horrendous speech that Todd looked VERY unhappy. Todd missed the first series of “quitstock” as well.

Spouse has wagered a bet that Palin has been fooling around as well as the ATF and other problems. He said he could “tell” by the way Todd looked.

I wagered a bet that she would blow this event in CA., spouse then wagered that if she did we will not hear from her again.

We have jars of loonies and toonies for wagers…………it’s a bit of fun.

I’m sure Sarah/Meg made the equivalent of a “gentleman’s agreement” with the RWSV or kept stringing them along for months with, “well, the Gov. can’t fully commit, but she’d like to come…”. Unfortunately, as as been mentioned, event planners need more than a lousy week to advertise their events! It was rude of Sarah/Meg to string them along – if she had so many other offers and conflicts, why did she not just decline the invitation months ago? Totally inconsiderate. Emily Post would be aghast.

There’s nothing wrong with a written contract, gone over by lawyers if you want to pay them, but even I, someone who has never run a state, can read a performance/speaking contract and decide if like the terms and ‘negotiate’ if I want/need something that isn’t already in there.

Meg’s ‘lawyer’ statement was a scold to the RWSV and a threat to anyone else looking to want to book her – put up with her ‘wait ’til the last minute’ shennanigans before you advertise her name or else Van Flein will sue you.

But in Sarah/Meg/TomLand, I guess scolding and threatening is seen as a positive thing for the ex.gov’s future.

For sure, anyone trying to book her should have a signed contract – stating that if contracts are not signed by a certain date, the event planners will consider the invitation declined by SP, and that invitation will not be re-extended. Also, too, one that spells out what she’ll owe THEM if she backs out less than a certain time prior to the event.

I’ve played plenty of gigs with only a ‘handshake’ agreement. Always fulfilled my part of the bargin and never got stiffed. It’s a shame Sarah Palin has forged a reputation of being untrustworthy – even if based on miscommunication, the miscommunication has not been all on the ‘other side’ and does not speak well of her organizational skills and the competence/intelligence/professionalism of the people she chooses to surround herself with.
