These are two images that were sent to me of ex-Governor Palin’s abdication in Fairbanks. The last line in New Acting Governor Sean Parnell’s note, followed by the picture below made me laugh.
Has anyone had a chance to see the list of PO closings? It doesn’t make too much sense to me, and I’d like to get someone else’s opinion. There are only 3 in GA all in the Atlanta area, including CNN and Hartsfield Airport. but FL looks like 30-40. AK doesn’t fare too badly, but was surprised that the military bases were taking a hit on their POs. I wouldn’t mind not having the PO open on Saturday or even closed on a Wed. Anyone else?
I would mind not having a PO open on Saturday. Most POs in my county are only open from 9 to 3, except one that’s open 8 to 4, weekdays. So everyone with a typical day job needs the Saturday openings. Even then, the hours are very short. My neighborhood PO is only open from 9 to 11 on Saturday. (sigh) I better go check the list….
@austintx
Do you know anyone who was at this meeting or their take on this?
I’ve read about a few of these disruptions, and it seems to me that, rather than having the desired effect of shutting down the discussion, it is only reaffirming the resolve of people and our congresscritters to work harder for this reform – the very opposite of what the disrupters hope to accomplish.
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, fresh off a rousing neighborhood meeting on health-care reform that ended with people chanting “just say no,” said this morning he’s more resolved than ever to seek congressional approval of health-care reforms.
The Austin Democrat said people who attended the gathering Saturday morning at a South Austin grocery store first heard him talk about why he favors change and then he took questions. Doggett said he subsequently said he wanted to talk one on one with crowd members interested in other issues, but that proved impossible because of deafening chants of “just say no.”
Yup , those people were bussed in and Lloyd said so in interviews afterward. He also said it makes him work harder when they do that. It appears to be the strategy they will use to stop PO. They pulled the same crap on Specter.
I just read about the bussing in on Crooks and Liars. These people are despicable and need to be called out. It seems eerily like the red shirt Prevos.
Keep supporting your representatives and urging them to do the right thing and support the public option.
Our NY Rep, Anthony Weiner, is doing a bang-up job and is deserving of any support that can be given to him. I’m not in his district, but I’ve written to thank him for his efforts. I see a very bright future for him if he continues along this road.
Andy Borowitz did a hilarious piece on Sarah. “America Less Safe With Palin No Longer Keeping Eye on Russia — Former Gov. Urges Wasillans to Fill Security Void”
I don’t see how to get the permalink for it, but it was posted on August 3rd.
He had a Palin Update: A spokesman for the former Governor denied rumors that the Palins were divorcing, saying, “It’s not like her to walk out on a commitment.”
I wish Alaska well with Sean in charge. That he may be someone you can work with and who put the well-being of Alakaskans first.
Happy Birthday (if it really *IS* his birthday, lol) to our President!
As for the town hall meetings… if anyone watched Rachel and KO last night, they revealed that all the “outrage” was fully scripted and directed by some lobby.
Pathetic. They can’t even muster up their own honest “outrage”. They have to be TOLD how to be “outraged”. And they have to bus in the pros to help it along.
The Palinbots’ capacity to reach for hyperbole in worship of Mrs. Qiviter never fails to amaze me. Evidently a couple of months ago someone wrote in Salon a glowing comparison of Pres. Obama to Mr. Spock. A Palinbot noticed this.
Despite slamming the earlier article saying, “We were treated to some really lame comparisons between Obama and Mr. Spock a few months back…” the Palinbot, in a commentary worthy of Sarah Palin plagiarizing Newt Gingrich, hypocritically pens his own LAME COMPARISON, this time comparing Sarah Palin to Mr. Spock’s CAPTAIN, James Kirk!
Palinbots are still laboring under the delusion that it’s logical to compare Sarah Palin the failed Vice-Presidential candidate once again to Barack Obama the successful Presidential candidate-now President.
Read the paragraph that this Palinbot, Leigh Scott, wrote to summarize Palin’s introduction to national politics and thereafter:
Since Sarah Palin burst onto the national scene she has been savaged. The media, the Left, the Right, the Middle, you name it. People either love her or hate her. In the media it seems people love to hate her. The “elites” on both sides of the aisle hate the populism she represents. Traditional feminists hate the fact that she has both a family and a career; something that their paradigm teaches is impossible. Her future rivals hate her because she isn’t a typical politician. Her authenticity makes Mike Huckabee look about as real as the Guinea Pigs in “G-Force”.
Palin was faced with her own Kobayashi Maru. How could she effectively govern the state of Alaska while facing ridiculous ethics charges and the scrutiny of the national media? [why is it the obvious answer -- DON'T DO ANY THING UNETHICAL -- never occurs to these Palinbots?] How could she increase her exposure in the lower 48 while staying true to the people in Alaska who elected her? Perhaps if the wingnuts in Alaska didn’t stalk her with silly lawsuits she would have simply put her larger ambitions on the back burner and continued to do her job as governor. But it wasn’t meant to be. She was perfectly set up to fail. Her popularity in Alaska would decline. The national media would point to it as an indicator of her overall effectiveness. The Klingons…I mean the left, would have won.”
This kind of middle school one-upmanship, fact-bending, outright untruths and delusion was greeted at our favorite Palinbot lurking site with great enthusiasm, of course.
Wowser, maybe the bloggers should sent the new Gov. a note of appreciation for mentioning the help? After all…
BTW, it wouldn’t hurt for whoever is running those town hall meetings, everywhere, to have a fire marshal in attendance. If I remember correctly, standing in the aisles (the way many of the ‘bots were doing) is a violation of most fire codes because it blocks exits. Make sure all the seats are occupied, too, so they have nowhere to go but out. : )
LiladyNY @ 20- thanks for the link. Proposing to kill Medicare really makes for an even playing field on health reform. Public option might have a chance. There is hope.
I just called my Rep Lamar (R) office and that jerk is voting against Health Care Reform. However I gave them a piece of my mind and told them that I was in his district and I’m for health Care Reform and that he needs to do right by the American people this time and Not for the insurance companies .Also told them to Stop with the busing in people to disrupt the health Care Reform debates that we are on to there dirty little trick. The Pee camp has become well-versed in changing the subject on so many fronts with their faux outrage… for it is much easier to go after those pesky AKM bloggers (and I’m sure their heads are exploding by how we figure this stuff out.) Johnstons; not to mention the glowing disparities of the abhorrent condition in which XGINO left the state of AK…

YUP, yup that is their favorite strawman, or should I say, straw-woman. I have a career and a family. I hate her because she is a LIAR FOR JESUS and I can’t stand those hypocrits.
oh, and shooting wolves from helicopters and ruining the fishing industry in Alaska with oil and mining and paying for rape kits and denying me my right to my own body and oh, there is more….but having a career and a family? Just a head’s up for everyone…the bloggers Stacey McCain and Dan Riehl are planning to go ahead and really go after Gryphen. They are back and forth blogging about it now…
McCain has posted an email he sent to Gryphen and my god is that man full of himself..name dropping, pointing out how fantastic he is…and letting Gryphen know just how lowly a person Gryphen is compared to himself. It’s a study in egotism if I ever saw one.
Regarding Stacey McCain, when someone goes to extremes to brag about themselves, I wonder why they’re here with me when they could be someplace so much cooler. I mean, if Stacey is such a big-shot why is he bothering with a blogger?
Here is an example of what he writes in this email:
Your bulls*** about “my best source” had some serious unintended consequences, Griffin. Among other things, you ruined my weekend. Frankly, I didn’t give a damn about what was going on in Wasilla. I was planning to spend the weekend chilling out so I could spend this week up on Capitol Hill talking to my sources on the IG investigations. Byron York beat me last week, which was my own fault, and now I’ve got to play catch-up.
Instead, I ended up spending all Saturday knocking down the bogus story from you and Zaki — the Woodward and Bernstein of Anchorage — which left me entirely frazzled. And then I got a call Sunday morning from Dan Riehl, and my weekend descended into the seventh circle of Hell.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..This is haliarious.. Best laugh I had all week. Thank You AKM for this great moment in history. What a way to say it all. Whoever had the idea for this is brilliant. ROFLMAO
Late last night, I followed some links and ended up on McCain’s blog. It was so disturbing, that I could not read much….and actually had a difficult time going to sleep.
Its the comments to his work. The sheer violence and ignorance is astounding…yet they say that Gryphen was never threatened with violence this past weekend.
Liars. I have seen the words myself, and wondered…how can this be? Is this not a felony? I mean….if you threatened someone with death over the phone or in person…if you told them perhaps some of you and your buddies would come after you with their guns….if a lawyer sends you a letter sounding straight out of Soprano’s episode…it should be against the law. It would be so where I live, and I believe it is in the States too.
I hope Grypen has the IP numbers of all those nasty people who threatened him. I believe it most likely they are cowards, but cowards are brave in numbers. Meet people like McCain face to face…one to one…he would run like a scared little rabbit.
All in all….I found the things I read this weekend very disturbing….and just want all the Alaskan bloggers to be safe.
Ashkee Colorado–”Interior friends” refers to those Alaskans who live in the Interior (i.e. the area around Fairbanks and such, as opposed to the Southcentral friends from around Anchorage or the Southeast friends down in SE, etc.). It was a shout out, as it were, to the people who live in the area where the Great Abdication Day ceremonies were taking place.
I just sent the link for that rabbit video to my sister who has been having snake problems this summer. Maybe the rabbits around her house need to go for some special training. Toooo funny!!!
Regarding the senate confirmation of Sotomayor, I was just checking up on Mark Begich and it looks like he is the only remaining Democratic senator who has not yet indicated support for Sotomayor.
While I know that the NRA (almost religion here in AK) has threatened to pull their support of any senator who will vote for Sotomayor and Begich would be damaged politically in Alaska, I think he should take a principled stand and vote to confirm Sotomayor anyways. I truly believe Begich personally wants to confirm Sotomayor, but right now he is more scared of the backlash from the NRA.
If he changes his mind and votes for Sotomayor, I think it would show that he has the backbone to stand up for what clearly the majority of Americans want and that he won’t be so easily swayed by the political threats of this lock step organization. I voted for Begich in 08′, but I will have to seriously reconsider the next time around if he does indeed deny Sotomayor.
Here is an example of what he writes in this email:

@ EyeonYou: It’s the same thing Sarah tried to do to Letterman, misrepresenting his comments as “perverted” and suggesting children are not safe around him. Pretty sick and a more accurate reflection of the accuser than the accused.
There’s something very ironic about Palin quitting mid term that I hadn’t thought of before I saw Parnell’s note today “giving thanks to the many who made today reality”..
Wally Hickel (the well liked ex Governor of Alaska) who was the force behind getting $arah elected, is now one of her most outspoken opponents up here and he always tells it like it is. Gov Hickel so strongly believed in building an all Alaska gasline (NOT thru Canada) that he was gearing up to run for office one more time in the ’06 election. He really didn’t want the job again but knew that a gasline thru Alaska would be the right thing for the state and he believed he could push that agenda thru rather swiftly.
So he approached $arah about running with him for Lt. Governor and told her that he would make her a deal. He said that if she went along, he would step down after two years (after ostensibly having secured the gasline) blaming his age as the reason and hand the reigns over to $arah.
Apparently QuitterPants went out and did a little polling or talked to God, the oil companies, who knows.. Anyway, she called him back saying she didn’t need to be on his ticket, she thought she could win the office all by herself. She did however secure his support (he was her campaign chair) and his stronghold of votes by running all over the state saying she would build an all Alaska gasline
Hickel now despises her and has completely washed his hands of $arah after she decided to send our natural gas to Canada instead of thru Alaska (another EPIC fail in which the only thing that has been accomplished is hand over a half billion dollars of Alaskas money to Canada and get us back in bed with Exxon). His most recent public comment of her in Vanity Fair was “I don’t give a damn what she does anymore, we haven’t spoken since she was elected”
It’s just kinda eerie that she has now quit mid term and handed off (whooops.. I mean passed the ball) to Parnell. Considering her ties to the AIP and worse up here, it makes me wonder if there is more to whatever her maniacal master plan was for this state
#33 Traditional feminists hate the fact that she has both a family and a career –
Frankly, the goal of traditional feminists dating back to Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem, of whom I am one, was to have a successful career AND family. Of course, they forgot to mention a woman could only achieve that goal if she had lots and lots of support from the workplace and her spouse and family and community. I don’t count Sarah Palin a success on either her career or family. She is an abysmal failure on both counts.

I agree.. My point however is, this is not the first time holding an office for a partial term and then stepping down to further an agenda has been bandied about in her mind. It was put there years ago by Hickel as a way to get things done somewhat underhandedly.. Considering how her brain functions (or lack thereof) and that note by Parnell, it makes me wonder if there’s more to this than meets the eye from that angle
So was he talking about the bloggers, the MSM the haters photoshoppers and the like?
Was it just acknowledgement of the people who got him as far as Lt Governor?
Has anyone seen anything in Parnell that is not- all in for Palin and in support of her policies?
when my daughter was in kindergarten she was always reading political blogs….NOT!! This McCain dickwad is actually trying to say that these 5 year-olds, most of whom cannot read past Elmo is Red, are finding and reading the Mudflats!?
DrChill: Yeah, that last ‘thank you’ is somewhat ambiguous. That ‘day’ couldn’t have happened without pesky ‘ankle biters’ and such. Was this an insult to Palin by proxy?

This upgrades my previous worn-out model. I am ready for your orders!! And, this is not a complaint mind you, but my check is not in the mail today. Could you look into that for me? Thxkbai.
I bet Tina Fey would get a kick out of that picture (how cute).. I feel bad for Gyphen and wish him the best, But he stepped into a huge pile of CRAP.. and as I am from wasilla there are even more NASTY rumors out there. YIKES.
As I stated on Gryphen’s blog, educators have to pass both FBI and state background checks before they are allowed to work with children.
A MySpace with very little information on it, a couple pics and nadda else, that hasn’t even been accessed in months, not regularly updated, is not going to be a draw for even a high schooler (boring). A 5 year old? Please.
Does anyone here let a 5 – 6 year old browse the MySpace? Really, yea, that’s what I thought. Kids that age want to play a game, usually a game with animated little animals, fruits, etc. I don’t know what goes on in their homes, but it’s not happening in mine. sheezzz
As the Blue Dogs and the Repuglicans are trying not to get a affordable Healthcare passed for the average American out there…. there was this story on the MSN Homepage.

“The New York Post is reporting that Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein warned his employees to avoid making big-ticket, high-profile purchases as the gold-plated Wall Street firm hunkers down amid a firestorm of public and political anger over outsize bonus payments.”
“This is a sensitive time for us, and (Blankfein) wants to make sure that we’re not being seen living high on the hog,” one Goldman executive told the Post.”

So after a few months after almost losing all of THEIR jobs ( and their Healthcare coverages ) these people seem to be doing OK. And with THOSE Bonuses I would have to assume they can afford some HealthCare.
WHO are these Politicians looking out for…?… it is certainly not me and you.
I’m guessing they can even afford those ” Cadillac Health Plans ” that someone suggested get taxed a little more.
How about it Goldman… maybe a little payback for not letting you get thrown out onto the streets..?

As more is learned and revealed about the depth and scope of the Political Dominionist christian movement, I think we need to add another truism to our collective wisdom. We all know to “follow the money”, but we need to learn to also “follow the religious ties.” In any situation that involves Sarah Palin, until the religious ties are examined and understood, there is always more than meets the eye. Parnell didn’t become a teammate worthy of having the ball passed to him w/out also being more than a fellow Republican.
“Parnell’s [first full] day [as governor] began with a breakfast session with about 60 pastors and staff initiated by the ministers.” http://www.theopalinism.com/blog/2009/07/28/parnells-pastors-his-first-meeting-as-lame-duck-guv/ “This was in no way a gesture of casual kindness to rally a prayer breakfast for Sean… this was a continuation of the type of Parnell and Franklin “prayerful decisions” Palin made while in office, when she decided to resign and now as she embarks as the ‘anointed One’. These ‘pastors’ are controlling the direction of the State of Alaska with Billy Graham’s prodigal son, Franklin, smack dab in the thick of it!”
The posts “Palin Passes the Baton to ‘Insta-Lame-Duck’ Alaska Governor Sean Parnell” and “A Dominionist Church by any other name…Remains a Dominionist Church” are also about Parnell and his religious ties and agenda.
I would suspect they will be flying home with former Pres. Clinton. Hope so!!
It concerned me all the reporting the media was doing knowing how sensitive the issue was. Even the questions asked in the White House daily press briefing with Gibbs. They don’t press for issues they should but don’t know when to shut up when they should.
I’ve been thinking about the McCloed/Palin email case, and think that there must be a connection to the resignation. Perhaps the begathon and inflated attorney fee quote was aimed at raising funds for a possible settlement agreement with Andree. When the trust was made inaccessable, Buttercup had to either cough up her own dough or hope to prevail in court. My hope is that the result of the case is revelation on the contents of emails. Iceberg?
Regarding GOP politicians who are against “socialized” healthcare reform. I say, put your money where you mouth is, and cancel your government healthcare benefits. Then, and go out and try and buy healthcare coverage for your families.

I’m going back to the comments around the #30′s regarding the borowitz article about Wasillans keeping an eye on Russia.
Remember back when Tina Fey did the Saturday Night Live sketch about Palin and Russians and she said that Palin walked out her front door and just said “shoo, shoo” to any Russians that might be lurking about….?
Well, the AKPetDad does this almost everyday when exiting the door towards his car…he has a look around the front yard and says “If there are any Russians here you need to shoo, shoo.”
Thought I’d share because it makes me laugh every day!

Re: Emails…settlement agreement with Andree.
The only settlement acceptable is an executive order from the governor’s office prohibiting the use of private email accounts for conducting official business. Thus far, Palin has refused and Parnell also went on the record in an Anchorage Daily News article last week refusing to issue an executive order at the same time he admitted to occasionally using his private email acounts for official business.
For me, this issue is not about money. It’s about protecting and preserving public records and the public’s right to inspect those records.
#120 Thanks Andree for the info. I appreciate your effort to ensure transparancy in government, at least some time in the future of AK.
My thoughts were that there must be a price that Palin would be willing to pay to keep the records private. I didn’t mean to imply that you would be accepting of such an offer. No offense intended.

Aimee Semple McPherson – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aimee Semple McPherson (October 9, 1890 – September 27, 1944), often called Sister Aimee, was a Canadian-born evangelist and media sensation in the 1920s ….On May 18, 1926, McPherson went to Ocean Park Beach, north of Venice Beach, with her secretary, to go swimming. Soon after arrival, McPherson disappeared. It was generally assumed at the time that she had drowned….. June 23, 1926, just weeks after her disappearance, McPherson stumbled out of the desert….

Would you give Kim Jong Il’s successor a “pass”? Because he’s new on the job, let’s see how he gets on?
Of course not!
You need to investigate this man, investigate his crazy ChangePoint “church”, investigate his “belief” structure. IMO he’s as crazy as $arah Palin, and is a “warrior” in Joel’s Army just as much as she. He’s her chosen successor and therein lies a message. He is no more a christian than I am.

Whaaaat ?Also beware that on August 10Th they are planning a Tea Party in Anchorage to keep the veto on the stimulus money that SP vetoed.
————————————————————
Well now, the folks in AK, ought to have a party of there own, showing support for accepting all of the stimulus monies. In fact, they should be plenty upset, with the legislature. A governing body that let themselves get steamrolled, time and time again. When the truth was there right in front of them, all they had to do was act on the truth.
Let’s counter their tea party with an “Espresso No Veto” event of our own. If I have to hear about anymore “teabaggers” I might just gag, no pun intended of course
Sarah Palin may have made $1,000,000 to give speech at NRA event in Alaska
August 4
i”It looks like Sarah Palin is cashing in her chips early as she was hired to give a speech at a closed to the media event for the NRA(National Rifle Association).Political insiders speculate that the Alaska Governor could have been compensated with up to 1 million dollars for the speech.
Sarah Palin made her first public appearance since resigning as Alaska governor at a National Rifle Association (NRA) event Saturday night in Anchorage. Palin gave a fire and brimstone speech on the Second Amendment right to bear arms, according to the group.
According to the NRA, Palin’s speech to 120 people was the crescendo of a five-day Gun Collectors Exposition.
Top NRA officials attended Palin’s speech, including association President Ronald Schmeits, Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, and Gun Collectors Committee Chairman Wayne Anthony Ross.
Also, Palin was given several honors, including the NRA’s Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting. This is only the second time in 10 years the award has been presented on behalf of the NRA’s Gun Collectors Committee.”
Bill Clinton got the journalists in N. Korea their pardons, immediately after BushieHawk John Bolton just today criticized Clinton’s sudden involvement in the process.
Bolton is a pure asshat. This video a very good analysis of his anti-diplomacy, and his comments about Clinton (who I am not a fan of) are just one more example of the Bushies need to just shut the hell up.
BBC reprting that the journalists, Euna Lee & Laura Ling, have left North Korea!! Current TV now running nonstop stories by Lee&Ling. . .amazing ladies!
Good article at ADN from Michael Carey. The part I quote, IMO, is the real danger that Palin and her base represent. http://www.adn.com/opinion/comment/carey/story/886673.html
“Then there are the biblical scholars. Perhaps you haven’t had time to read Zacharias 10:2? I called my cousin, a professor of theology in Minnesota, for an explanation. Apparently God is going to send us a leader who will make war. Yep, warrior princess Sarah Palin. “This is a favorite with fundamentalists,” Steve Haggmark told me.”
I just emailed the Blue Dogs and told them they are being selfish and greedy. I hope they will change their minds. We have a town hall meeting here in GP Aug. 14. If we are not out of town, I will go.
re: Republicans and Christianity — It so saddens me to see these two groups “linked” in the minds of American voters. The so-called-Christian politicians are greedy, selfish, mean-spirited, and hypocritical. They are NOT acting as Christians are supposed to act. Anyone who makes a big, public deal about being a Christian will NEVER act like one. You will rarely notice the true Christians because they just go about their business quietly obeying the word of the Lord.
re: Liars for Jesus — Jesus is about Truth and never condones lying.
Hooray for Bill Clinton and the release of the two journalists in North Korea !!
Diplomacy over bullying, wow there’s a concept !! The Obama administration at work,
you gotta love it !!!
CG: Seems odd that the NRA would pay a million bucks for Scarah to speak to a local audience of 120 people. If so, good for her. I do not care how much money she makes (although I DO find it hideous that she bilks her fans of their last few bucks of the social security checks). Let her preach to her illiterate, hateful, racist choir – ANYTHING, except having to see her vying for ANY public office, ever again.

Well, that explains why SP blew off the Rep. women but attended the NRA gig—more money.
————–
AND the fact that it was in-state. Something tells me those”out of state” offers are no longer being accepted since any invitations have to be cleared w/ her attorney. Hmm. Why would that be? Can’t leave the state?
I’m tellin’ ya–there’s something to that. I just have a feeling.
@ Sarah in SC #141: I agree, it’s odd that SP seems reluctant to leave the state. Legal matters may have restricted her travel. Or maybe the rumors of plastic surgery are true.
I wouldn’t put much weight on Sarah’s “one million dollar fee” for speaking to 120 NRA members. Do you truly believe they ponied up $8333 apiece for the privilege of getting some word salad before their rubber chicken?
hmmmm, 200,000.00 a minute for her speech? Not bloodly likely, maybe she got 10,000.00, but no way are those men going to pay a million with getting a little bit more, if you know what I mean. =)
AKPetMom (at 11:52 AM)–you know, we do that here too, except that we’re “shoo, shooing” the Canadians back across the border. It IS only a few miles away, you know!
I not only want to see Sarah’s high school diploma, I want to see her birth certificate, marriage license, driver’s license, college diploma and birth certificates of all her children. Would also like to see the same info on Todd. Attached to the college diploma I want a transcript of her grades.
I have seen no proof that she and Todd are actually married; maybe, they just jumped the broom. Or since they are in Alaska, they may have simply jumped a wolf carcass or a rifle.
Since SP aborted her position as Govern; does she have any official role/title in Alaska? She still have the trust fund-how does she justify using the money?
I would like to thank Gryphen for respecting the 1st amendment. Unlike
most of the right leaning blugs I’ve visited that harass those who disagree with them or ban them from their sites, Gryphen allows all points of view to
be heard. He even allows those posts that question his motives to be
viewable. Gryphen does no engage in censorship.
So, unlike those on the right who are always crying and screaming that their Freedom of Speech has been violated and then proceed to violate those
same rights by people who don’t tow the line, Gryphen practices what he believes in.
And that in my opinion is one of the main differences between the right and the left. And to paraphrase SP, the left does not just talk the talk, we allow
others to do the same.
RUMORS of plastic surgery! O my Gosh! That will make her furious!!!!!
———————————
W o W…!! If a ‘ rumor ‘ ( don’t sue me ) like THAT was to get started…. someone like WONKETTE ( cough… cough ) might go crazy and we would have all kinds of images all over the inter-tubes. There is no telling what those ‘ images ‘ might look like.
Much worse than any ” Slutty Flight Attendant ” images I am sure.
The extensive plastic work the Queen needs to restore her to youthful and hot (snark) would have a 6 -8 week recovery period, minimum, so you’ll know pretty soon if that rumor is true.
Not sure what to think of the PS rumors. She certainly doesn’t need it, and if she thinks she does she’s going to become the next Michael Jackson. *Insert Horror Movie Scream*

***********************************************************************************Sarah’s handlers need to keep her away from the Triple D Turkey Farm. We all know to well what they do with turkey necks.
I am 61, and I’m OK with that. In my day, two crushes were kind to me: Jeremy Irons and Sherrill Milnes, in that they flirted with me. (I wasn’t a Bruce person.) If I had lots of money, I might do something small. Who one is means more to me, and, I must say, always has. If you mention ‘Sex in the City’ around me, you are responsible for your own well-being.
Keep in mind Palin was presented with a lifetime membership in the NRA. That’s worth bucks. Also a lot of local memberships and other consolation prizes. Add them on to the speaking fee. Maybe not a million but also a lot more than I expect the Simi Valley women were willing to cough up.
In the world of media, Palin does need some work done. This isn’t my personal opinion, but I’m just sharing the standards for looks that are taken into account in the media.
Compare her face to Fox News Anchors, or Crazy Paula Abdul. Notice how there aren’t any shadows or creases? Some of that is courtesy of good lighting, but mid face lifts are common in Hollywood/TV world, starting in mid-thirties. Palin is behind in this regard.
I’ve often wondered if she had cheek implants because her face shape changed so much over the years. Fillers and Botox, you betcha.
Her cheek pads are sagging and she has a double chin from many angles. She’s going to need to fix that if she’s going to base her career on her looks. She certainly doesn’t have the courage, integrity, or inner beauty to age gracefully and beautifully like Helen Mirren or Diane Lane.
Again, I don’t condone these patriarchal attitudes about beauty– just passing on the standards in an industry I’m very familiar with.
I have to agree with you there. Gryphen has more intestinal fortitude than all those Palin supporters put together. He is willing to allow all viewpoints to stand whereas the Palin supporters can’t stand to have anyone have a different viewpoint and post on their site. They don’t have what it takes to stand up to criticism or debate. DrChill was the only one they really allowed to post for any length of time and even when he was respectful of them, they called him names, made fun of him, some were even childish enough to make up fake identities pretending to be him.
The immaturity at those sites is off the charts and is evidenced daily in their discussions and behavior towards others.
It is nice to have places like Mudflats, Immoral minority and Shannyn’s and Diva’s where a difference of opinion is allowed as long as you remain respectful.
Since the Obama birther citizenship issue comes up periodically, keep in mind that one of the first court challenges was filed by Philip J. Berg, a Hillary Clinton supporter.
What is up with this? I thought Joe Schmidt decided he didn’t want to be Lt. Gov.
“Just inside the entrance, two lines of people stretch towards two white tents; at one Governor-designate Parnell is serving hot dogs to attendees with his wife Sandy and several administration officials, including Corrections Commissioner Joe Schmidt, who until a last minute change of mind by Palin was confirmed to be the next lieutenant governor. (Palin chose Commissioner of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Craig Campbell instead, who’ll serve as temporary substitute lieutenant governor until his expected confirmation by the legislature at its special session on August 10 in Anchorage.)”
What an impressive 17-year-old to write this open letter to Sarah Palin. Here’s an excerpt:
It has now been a little over a week since your resignation as governor of Alaska, and thankfully you haven’t made many recent headlines….
As a 17-year-old American who has to live in this country for probably the next 80-90 years, I formally request that you pack your bags and swim across to Russia. After all, it must be close enough if you can see it from your house. I have never seen, nor have I ever heard of, a politician less qualified and less engaged than you are, and I want you to leave politics for good before you start….

Now would be a good time to share your research, so that we can get some momentum going…
I also can’t see someone paying 8000 dollars to her her speak.I don’t think she got anything but her accolades from them.She could be an advocate for the NRA,going across the country inciting people to armed resistance against anything they did not like
Item #1 (Campell a LIAR for Palin) from Crooks & Liars:
This scandal is as easy to follow as it is transparently outrageous. Since choosing her as VP, the McCain campaign has been trying it’s hardest to make the case that as “Commander in Chief” of the Alaskan National Guard, Sarah Palin has relevant national security experience. On August 31, the actual commander of the Alaska National Guard– Major General Craig Campbell — punctured a hole in that meme when the AP reported Campbell saying:
“[Palin plays] no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard.”
On September 3, Campbell went even further, saying:
“The Alaskan governor is not in the site’s chain of command and has no authority over its operations.”
Realizing that Campbell was severely undercutting one of the campaign’s main talking points, it appears someone leaned on him and got him to change his tune…on FOX News:
“In the last few days, I’ve been watching the press, and I’ve not been very pleased with what I’ve been seeing about the chastising of the National Guard by having it diminished by the insinuation that a commander-in-chief of the National Guard doesn’t really control the military. The National Guard has 500,000 people in it around this great country, serving in states and overseas. National Guards are state military forces run by governors, and Sarah Palin does it great.”
Now, for being a good soldier, Campbell has gotten a major promotion.
A good place to glean info on Craig Campell is to read an old post AND THE COMMENTS from Andrew Halcro (written before the Nov. election, when Palin was running for VP):
This thing about the plastic surgery to maintain is really bad. As the population ages we should be able to cope with aging. All the changes in “liberation” of women, and we cannot accept ourselves for who we are?
Hey! Ladies! we’ve been trapped by the media. We all want to look 20 or 30. How smart were you when you were that age?
I guess I’m old fashioned. I’m 69 and proud of all the stuff I’ve accumulated. Those wrinkles and grey hairs were earned.
Campbell promoted 3 days later on 8 September after 5 September interview with Fox, suddenly praising her. This is an internal promotion within the Alaskan National Guard and not recognized outside of Alaska. However, he still has his star. In other words, was he bought with a star? Interesting.
According to what Andrew Halco was sent (information) he doesn’t get much support from within the guard itself, due to his own lack of promotion practices.
Lori in LA and the Problem Child
I agree, they should not confirm Campbell but my point was WHO decided that Joe Schmidt (who was already confirmed by the legislature) would NOT be the Lt. Gov? I thought when the switch first came out it was said that Joe Schmidt changed his mind and did not want to be the Lt. Gov. The article I quoted above states that it was $arah that changed her mind. It seems fishy to me as there seems to always be method to her madness.
Dr. Patois Says:
What is up with this? I thought Joe Schmidt decided he didn’t want to be Lt. Gov.
“Just inside the entrance, two lines of people stretch towards two white tents; at one Governor-designate Parnell is serving hot dogs to attendees with his wife Sandy and several administration officials, including Corrections Commissioner Joe Schmidt,
———–
I think what you said in your comment #182 is correct. The written article to me is wrong.
A question I have from the article is: They referred to Schmidt as the Corrections Commissioner. Has he been re-instated in that position? Is this playing musical job placement?
OK, Dr. Patois, found the paragraph you refer to. IMO, the article has it all wrong. By all other accounts, Schmidt is the one who changed his mind – not Palin. Just sloppy reporting I think.
I think Schmidt was always the Corrections Commissioner. I think when Palin first announced she was stepping down, he said he didn’t want to be Lt. Gov. But I thought at some point he had changed his mind and agreed to do it. But Palin went ahead and passed him over anyway, seeing an opportunity to put her preference in.
I don’t think anything has been resolved yet. Won’t be until the special session where anything can happen.
This evening i took a break from politics to attend an outdoor B-52s concert in my hometown which was BEYOND GREAT!!! I’m still dancing!!
BUT…so I am not completely off topic in this blog….
Ten reasons why a B-52s concert in my hometown is better than a Sarah Palin event
10. No corsages
9. Bigger and better beehives
8. Even though no free food, more people attended than attended “Quitty Pants Picnic.”
7. Vociferous crowd did not yell “Terrorist” or “Kill him.”
6. “Rock Lobster” not being decimated by pollock fishing.
5. Hair extensions (whilst taking 4 hours to “progress” – and I know this b/c a hairdresser friend was hired to do them) looked REALLY GOOD.
4. Even though all of the original members are eligible for AARP, they still rock and DID NOT QUIT.
3. “Private Idaho” not yet on short list for Wasillabilly relocation.
2. “Tin roof…rusted” has nothing to do with flooding at Eagle.
and, finally
1. “Roam if you want to” not suggestion for direction of Palin abdication speech.
I think I remember that Schmidt said he didn’t want to be Lt. Gov, but that he would hold the position if it was required until Campbell could be confirmed.
I think where I got lost was that Palin had designated and the Legislature had confirmed Corrections Commissioner Joe Schmidt as next in line for lieutenant governor in the last Legislature Session. But Schmidt recently resigned from that designation.
So he was the second in line which appears that it wasn’t actually a job until the vacancy opened up for Lt. Gov. So Joe continued on being the Corrections Commissioner with the added value of being confirmed should a vacancy happen. It did. He didn’t!!!!
1,000,000 divided by 120 equals one big bunch of idiots.

Lori in LA,
Pittsburgh is generally safe, particularly where you might be wandering. Some areas east of downtown can be a little rough, but, if you have your “city smarts” about you, you will be fine.(and can’t imagine you going to these areas). I would walk pretty much anywhere in the ‘burgh before venturing out in similar surroundings in LA. Do spend some time in Strip District and at Station Square..and ride the Incline.
THANK YOU psminidivapa. I will have some sightseeing time Sat. afternoon.

Did you hear Dan R’s pod cast? I’ve heard there is a pod cast, but it doesn’t work. Instead people talk about it. It sounds like they are establishing who Gryphen “really is.”
They will know, but no one else will hear it? If it is slander how can G defend himself? Murdoch can smear him with the people who believe whatever this pod cast has stated.
ABS,
Thanx. Had this idea of doing something with “Love Shack,” but couldn’t decide if it would work better with Sarah and the Dude, Bristol and Levi???? In the end, decided I wanted to avoid legal issues (since only some are able to speak of former first fam with impunity)

It’s a wonder they haven’t floated away with the over inflated ego’s them have of themselves! That McCain idiot is surely got some serious issues. He’s hell bent on making sure that Gryphen is not just outed but ruined, but then he posts how he’s irritated because he claims that the Democrats are trying to censor the Republicans!
All this based on the statements of Palins mouthpiece and her legal lapdog that they are not splitting up, and let’s face it we all know what a paragon of truth and honesty Palin and her lackeys are…/sarc.
In one lingering issue, the Alaska Public Offices Commission has refused Palin’s request to keep secret the discounts that come from her husband’s Arctic Cat sponsorship. APOC also said Palin needs to disclose all the gifts she received last year, rejecting her interpretation that she doesn’t need to until after she gets around to actually opening the gifts.
McLeod, who has had multiple ethics complaints against Palin dismissed, is the same person who brought the Arctic Cat sponsorship issue to APOC, the state’s quasi-independent watchdog agency.
Also too, Anchorage Superior Court Judge Jack Smith will be ruling on the use of non-state email accts being used for state business, but will take a few weeks to rule.
@176 PhotonFlower – Thanks for the link. I commented because it seemed that a bit to much negative energy was aimed at the 17 year old who wrote an open letter to your ex-governor:
Thank you Huffington Post for publishing young William Nellington’s letter. I am encouraged that all is not lost and that a 17 year old would bother to speak truth to power. William’s parents, teachers, and family should be quite proud of his writing skills and his ability to cogently share his views with others.
It seems unfortunate that supporters of differing viewpoints feel it necessary to rudely suggest that William somehow does not have a right to his own opinion about a very serious threat to our republic democracy. Our right to free speech includes the right to disagree with what others say as long as it does not cause irreparable harm to others. It is important to also understand that our military is not engaged in war to ‘protect our right to free speech’ as we have heard repeatedly and by the highly NRA decorated Ms. Palin.
It would be very interesting to read the writings of the 17 year old Sarah Palin AND to see photos of her, while governing, on Little Diomede, Alaska where US citizens live. The photo would of course show Big Diomede, Russia in the background. That in itself would have taken the sting out of the SNL Tina Fey joke ‘I can see Russia from my house.’
William, keep up the good work by continuing to read widely and by writing well. Be encouraged, bless you.

#133 “Palin may have made $1million to give speech @NRA event In Anchorage Aug. 4.”
“According to the NRA, Palin’s speech to 120 people was the crescendo of a five-day Gun Collectors Exposition.”
I bet they were expecting a heck of a lot more people for their million. Well, we know that 120 people walked out of there saying, “What the hell did she say?” Well, maybe Wayne Ross understood her – birds of a feather – hunt together, I guess.
May I make some suggestions re people’s expectations should Sarah Palin ever sue based on the allegations the baby is not hers?
1) make sure you have your own facts in order; it is as likely that a judge will make YOU present evidence to back up your contention of a non-birth event;
2) unless you understand what goes on in a lawsuit, do not expect that just because you say that she needs to do this or that, or that it will go a certain way, that that is what will absolutely happen;
3) never stand near a rabid dog and dare it to bite you. do that often enough and you will get bit;
4) before you dare anyone to sue you, make sure you either have insurance that provides adequate coverage (including legal defense) or that you are judgment proof;
5) unless your lawyer is better than her lawyer, you are going to lose;
6) anonymous sources provide absolutely no protection to the types of claims being made against Palin;
7) not only may you be able to depose her, she will also be able to depose you; should that happen and you provide no evidence to support your non-birth contention, her attorney could win the case by simply filing a motion for summary judgment; and
discretion is the better part of valor. or – do your thinking with your brains instead of your hormones, emotions and mouth.

In case anyone else is wondering, here is the list of possible closures, subject to further review: http://www.federaltimes.com/blogs/fedtimes/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/usps_closures.pdf

@austintx

And these two pics are like peanut butter and chocolate; two great tastes that taste great together.
I see that Parnell’s strong point isn’t punctuation.
Andy Borowitz did a hilarious piece on Sarah. “America Less Safe With Palin No Longer Keeping Eye on Russia — Former Gov. Urges Wasillans to Fill Security Void”
I don’t see how to get the permalink for it, but it was posted on August 3rd.
http://www.borowitzreport.com/
He had a Palin Update: A spokesman for the former Governor denied rumors that the Palins were divorcing, saying, “It’s not like her to walk out on a commitment.”
I wish Alaska well with Sean in charge. That he may be someone you can work with and who put the well-being of Alakaskans first.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. We chucked Sarah out of Hawaii a long time ago. And we have no taste at all, unless you count Spam as a delicacy.

Good morning, everyone!
Divisive, disturbing and dimwitted.
Happy Birthday President Obama! I don’t care if he came from the planet Zircon, I’m delighted to have him as our President.

Spock’s CAPTAIN, James Kirk!
http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/lscott/2009/08/04/live-long-and-prosper-sarah-palin/
They love their Oscar Meyer baloney.
austintx, that rabbit is channeling Rikki-Tikki-Tavi!
What the heck are “interior friends”? Are they the opposite of the rabid nutcase fringe? or outsiders?
The final thing I said was that I ‘m looking into how much money Lamar has received from insurance companies for his campaigns.That felt great. Who should I call next (R)Sen Hutchinson or(R) Sen Cornyn.I’m so darn mad I’m stuck with (R) Idiots.Sorry for the rant.
@ Trisha, who said in the last thread….
“Maybe we need to go back to the prior conversation about Sarah bagging on California Republicans. Seems her camp wanted to stop that conversation.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Pee camp has become well-versed in changing the subject on so many fronts with their faux outrage… for it is much easier to go after those pesky AKM bloggers (and I’m sure their heads are exploding by how we figure this stuff out.) The objective is to “get us off the gates”… as not to openly discuss those nagging issues surrounding AFT; canceling last minute yet AGAIN; receipt of gifts ‘reportedly’ unopened; hidden email/trial;
Johnstons; not to mention the glowing disparities of the abhorrent condition in which XGINO left the state of AK…
Let us not be duped by the noise ~ and this would also apply to the Healthcare agenda.
Gooday all.
@33: “Traditional feminists hate the fact that she has both a family and a career;
YUP, yup that is their favorite strawman, or should I say, straw-woman. I have a career and a family. I hate her because she only wants to govern the people of Real America, and because I live in NYC and hubby is in media, we are not real Americans to her. I hate her because she is a LIAR FOR JESUS and I can’t stand those hypocrits.
oh, and shooting wolves from helicopters and ruining the fishing industry in Alaska with oil and mining and paying for rape kits and denying me my right to my own body and oh, there is more….but having a career and a family? I don’t hate that and I am a traditional feminist, 52 years old, charter subscriber to MS. magazine in Junior High.
Just a head’s up for everyone…the bloggers Stacey McCain and Dan Riehl are planning to go ahead and really go after Gryphen. They are back and forth blogging about it now…
McCain has posted an email he sent to Gryphen and my god is that man full of himself..name dropping, pointing out how fantastic he is…and letting Gryphen know just how lowly a person Gryphen is compared to himself. It’s a study in egotism if I ever saw one.
Regarding Stacey McCain, when someone goes to extremes to brag about themselves, I wonder why they’re here with me when they could be someplace so much cooler. I mean, if Stacey is such a big-shot why is he bothering with a blogger?
Your bulls*** about “my best source” had some serious unintended consequences, Griffin. Among other things, you ruined my weekend. Frankly, I didn’t give a damn about what was going on in Wasilla. I was planning to spend the weekend chilling out so I could spend this week up on Capitol Hill talking to my sources on the IG investigations. Byron York beat me last week, which was my own fault, and now I’ve got to play catch-up.
Instead, I ended up spending all Saturday knocking down the bogus story from you and Zaki — the Woodward and Bernstein of Anchorage — which left me entirely frazzled. And then I got a call Sunday morning from Dan Riehl, and my weekend descended into the seventh circle of Hell.
Late last night, I followed some links and ended up on McCain’s blog. It was so disturbing, that I could not read much….and actually had a difficult time going to sleep.
Its the comments to his work. The sheer violence and ignorance is astounding…yet they say that Gryphen was never threatened with violence this past weekend.
Liars. I have seen the words myself, and wondered…how can this be? Is this not a felony? I mean….if you threatened someone with death over the phone or in person…if you told them perhaps some of you and your buddies would come after you with their guns….if a lawyer sends you a letter sounding straight out of Soprano’s episode…it should be against the law. It would be so where I live, and I believe it is in the States too.
I hope Grypen has the IP numbers of all those nasty people who threatened him. I believe it most likely they are cowards, but cowards are brave in numbers. Meet people like McCain face to face…one to one…he would run like a scared little rabbit.
All in all….I found the things I read this weekend very disturbing….and just want all the Alaskan bloggers to be safe.
Loved the pics.
Ashkee Colorado–”Interior friends” refers to those Alaskans who live in the Interior (i.e. the area around Fairbanks and such, as opposed to the Southcentral friends from around Anchorage or the Southeast friends down in SE, etc.). It was a shout out, as it were, to the people who live in the area where the Great Abdication Day ceremonies were taking place.
Regarding the senate confirmation of Sotomayor, I was just checking up on Mark Begich and it looks like he is the only remaining Democratic senator who has not yet indicated support for Sotomayor.
While I know that the NRA (almost religion here in AK) has threatened to pull their support of any senator who will vote for Sotomayor and Begich would be damaged politically in Alaska, I think he should take a principled stand and vote to confirm Sotomayor anyways. I truly believe Begich personally wants to confirm Sotomayor, but right now he is more scared of the backlash from the NRA.
If he changes his mind and votes for Sotomayor, I think it would show that he has the backbone to stand up for what clearly the majority of Americans want and that he won’t be so easily swayed by the political threats of this lock step organization. I voted for Begich in 08′, but I will have to seriously reconsider the next time around if he does indeed deny Sotomayor.
AKM, how about calling Begich out on this?
Funny thing about McCain’s website.
Anybody notice this quote in his banner?
jo in AK–HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Happy Birthday, Jo in AK! And Happy Birthday, Mr. President! I always think of Marilyn Monroe when I hear that.
@ EyeonYou: It’s the same thing Sarah tried to do to Letterman, misrepresenting his comments as “perverted” and suggesting children are not safe around him. Pretty sick and a more accurate reflection of the accuser than the accused.
There’s something very ironic about Palin quitting mid term that I hadn’t thought of before I saw Parnell’s note today “giving thanks to the many who made today reality”..
Wally Hickel (the well liked ex Governor of Alaska) who was the force behind getting $arah elected, is now one of her most outspoken opponents up here and he always tells it like it is. Gov Hickel so strongly believed in building an all Alaska gasline (NOT thru Canada) that he was gearing up to run for office one more time in the ’06 election. He really didn’t want the job again but knew that a gasline thru Alaska would be the right thing for the state and he believed he could push that agenda thru rather swiftly.
So he approached $arah about running with him for Lt. Governor and told her that he would make her a deal. He said that if she went along, he would step down after two years (after ostensibly having secured the gasline) blaming his age as the reason and hand the reigns over to $arah.
Apparently QuitterPants went out and did a little polling or talked to God, the oil companies, who knows.. Anyway, she called him back saying she didn’t need to be on his ticket, she thought she could win the office all by herself. She did however secure his support (he was her campaign chair) and his stronghold of votes by running all over the state saying she would build an all Alaska gasline
Hickel now despises her and has completely washed his hands of $arah after she decided to send our natural gas to Canada instead of thru Alaska (another EPIC fail in which the only thing that has been accomplished is hand over a half billion dollars of Alaskas money to Canada and get us back in bed with Exxon). His most recent public comment of her in Vanity Fair was “I don’t give a damn what she does anymore, we haven’t spoken since she was elected”
It’s just kinda eerie that she has now quit mid term and handed off (whooops.. I mean passed the ball) to Parnell. Considering her ties to the AIP and worse up here, it makes me wonder if there is more to whatever her maniacal master plan was for this state
#39 @C Rock – Awesome rant! Keep it up.
#33 Traditional feminists hate the fact that she has both a family and a career –
Frankly, the goal of traditional feminists dating back to Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem, of whom I am one, was to have a successful career AND family. Of course, they forgot to mention a woman could only achieve that goal if she had lots and lots of support from the workplace and her spouse and family and community. I don’t count Sarah Palin a success on either her career or family. She is an abysmal failure on both counts.
@ hawk: I believe Sarah has a short attention span and can’t stay on task long enough to complete any job. And an ego the size of Alaska itself.
I agree.. My point however is, this is not the first time holding an office for a partial term and then stepping down to further an agenda has been bandied about in her mind. It was put there years ago by Hickel as a way to get things done somewhat underhandedly.. Considering how her brain functions (or lack thereof) and that note by Parnell, it makes me wonder if there’s more to this than meets the eye from that angle
So was he talking about the bloggers, the MSM the haters photoshoppers and the like?
Was it just acknowledgement of the people who got him as far as Lt Governor?
Has anyone seen anything in Parnell that is not- all in for Palin and in support of her policies?
when my daughter was in kindergarten she was always reading political blogs….NOT!! This McCain dickwad is actually trying to say that these 5 year-olds, most of whom cannot read past Elmo is Red, are finding and reading the Mudflats!?
DrChill: Yeah, that last ‘thank you’ is somewhat ambiguous. That ‘day’ couldn’t have happened without pesky ‘ankle biters’ and such. Was this an insult to Palin by proxy?
Bubbles, if you’re listening. . .tap tap tap on my brandy spankin shiny new toothbrush given to me a short time ago by the regional leader of the anti-tin foil brigade known to all and sundry as The Dentist (not that Orly Titties one! – BTW has anyone checked HER birth certificate?). This upgrades my previous worn-out model. I am ready for your orders!! And, this is not a complaint mind you, but my check is not in the mail today. Could you look into that for me? Thxkbai.
Does McCain realize that calling Gryphen and Zaki “the Woodward and Bernstein” of Anchorage is a compliment?
Now think back…to the days of yesteryear – what exactly DID Woodward and Bernstein end up doing? And who ended up leaving office?
Calling two bloggers Woodward and Bernstein may not be exactly what McCain is trying to convey here. Then again – it “is” McCain.
As the Blue Dogs and the Repuglicans are trying not to get a affordable Healthcare passed for the average American out there…. there was this story on the MSN Homepage.
—————————————-
“The New York Post is reporting that Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein warned his employees to avoid making big-ticket, high-profile purchases as the gold-plated Wall Street firm hunkers down amid a firestorm of public and political anger over outsize bonus payments.”
“This is a sensitive time for us, and (Blankfein) wants to make sure that we’re not being seen living high on the hog,” one Goldman executive told the Post.”
So after a few months after almost losing all of THEIR jobs ( and their Healthcare coverages ) these people seem to be doing OK. And with THOSE Bonuses I would have to assume they can afford some HealthCare.
WHO are these Politicians looking out for…?… it is certainly not me and you.
I’m guessing they can even afford those ” Cadillac Health Plans ” that someone suggested get taxed a little more.
How about it Goldman… maybe a little payback for not letting you get thrown out onto the streets..?
hawk @ 87
Considering how her brain functions (or lack thereof) and that note by Parnell, it makes me wonder if there’s more to this than meets the eye from that angle …
As more is learned and revealed about the depth and scope of the Political Dominionist christian movement, I think we need to add another truism to our collective wisdom. We all know to “follow the money”, but we need to learn to also “follow the religious ties.” In any situation that involves Sarah Palin, until the religious ties are examined and understood, there is always more than meets the eye. Parnell didn’t become a teammate worthy of having the ball passed to him w/out also being more than a fellow Republican.
“Parnell’s [first full] day [as governor] began with a breakfast session with about 60 pastors and staff initiated by the ministers.”
http://www.theopalinism.com/blog/2009/07/28/parnells-pastors-his-first-meeting-as-lame-duck-guv/
“This was in no way a gesture of casual kindness to rally a prayer breakfast for Sean… this was a continuation of the type of Parnell and Franklin “prayerful decisions” Palin made while in office, when she decided to resign and now as she embarks as the ‘anointed One’. These ‘pastors’ are controlling the direction of the State of Alaska with Billy Graham’s prodigal son, Franklin, smack dab in the thick of it!”
The posts “Palin Passes the Baton to ‘Insta-Lame-Duck’ Alaska Governor Sean Parnell” and “A Dominionist Church by any other name…Remains a Dominionist Church” are also about Parnell and his religious ties and agenda.
C.Rock,
Not a problem.
I would suspect they will be flying home with former Pres. Clinton. Hope so!!
It concerned me all the reporting the media was doing knowing how sensitive the issue was. Even the questions asked in the White House daily press briefing with Gibbs. They don’t press for issues they should but don’t know when to shut up when they should.
I’m thrilled for the families of the journalists.
I’ve been thinking about the McCloed/Palin email case, and think that there must be a connection to the resignation. Perhaps the begathon and inflated attorney fee quote was aimed at raising funds for a possible settlement agreement with Andree. When the trust was made inaccessable, Buttercup had to either cough up her own dough or hope to prevail in court. My hope is that the result of the case is revelation on the contents of emails. Iceberg?
Looks like Dennis Zaki is poking the hornet’s nest to see if he can get a reaction.
http://alaskareport.com/news39/x71286_affairs_de_palin.htm
Maybe it’s time to start making a list of all the things that haven’t been denied on Facebook. (Ow, ow, ow – list too long to keep up with.)
Zaki, just posted another interesting headline. Palin not the only one shopping a book.
Regarding GOP politicians who are against “socialized” healthcare reform. I say, put your money where you mouth is, and cancel your government healthcare benefits. Then, and go out and try and buy healthcare coverage for your families.
That will change their tune.
I’m going back to the comments around the #30′s regarding the borowitz article about Wasillans keeping an eye on Russia.
Remember back when Tina Fey did the Saturday Night Live sketch about Palin and Russians and she said that Palin walked out her front door and just said “shoo, shoo” to any Russians that might be lurking about….?
Well, the AKPetDad does this almost everyday when exiting the door towards his car…he has a look around the front yard and says “If there are any Russians here you need to shoo, shoo.”
Re: Emails…settlement agreement with Andree.
The only settlement acceptable is an executive order from the governor’s office prohibiting the use of private email accounts for conducting official business. Thus far, Palin has refused and Parnell also went on the record in an Anchorage Daily News article last week refusing to issue an executive order at the same time he admitted to occasionally using his private email acounts for official business.
For me, this issue is not about money. It’s about protecting and preserving public records and the public’s right to inspect those records.
#120 Thanks Andree for the info. I appreciate your effort to ensure transparancy in government, at least some time in the future of AK.
My thoughts were that there must be a price that Palin would be willing to pay to keep the records private. I didn’t mean to imply that you would be accepting of such an offer. No offense intended.
Happy Birthday jo in AK
As more is learned and revealed about the depth and scope of the Political Dominionist christian movement, I think we need to add another truism to our collective wisdom. We all know to “follow the money”, but we need to learn to also “follow the religious ties.” In any situation that involves Sarah Palin, until the religious ties are examined and understood, there is always more than meets the eye. Parnell didn’t become a teammate worthy of having the ball passed to him w/out also being more than a fellow Republican.
“Parnell’s [first full] day [as governor] began with a breakfast session with about 60 pastors and staff initiated by the ministers.”
http://www.theopalinism.com/blog/2009/07/28/parnells-pastors-his-first-meeting-as-lame-duck-guv/
“This was in no way a gesture of casual kindness to rally a prayer breakfast for Sean… this was a continuation of the type of Parnell and Franklin “prayerful decisions” Palin made while in office, when she decided to resign and now as she embarks as the ‘anointed One’. These ‘pastors’ are controlling the direction of the State of Alaska with Billy Graham’s prodigal son, Franklin, smack dab in the thick of it!”
The posts “Palin Passes the Baton to ‘Insta-Lame-Duck’ Alaska Governor Sean Parnell” and “A Dominionist Church by any other name…Remains a Dominionist Church” are also about Parnell and his religious ties and agenda.
Sarah Palin may have made $1,000,000 to give speech at NRA event in Alaska
August 4
i”It looks like Sarah Palin is cashing in her chips early as she was hired to give a speech at a closed to the media event for the NRA(National Rifle Association).Political insiders speculate that the Alaska Governor could have been compensated with up to 1 million dollars for the speech.
Sarah Palin made her first public appearance since resigning as Alaska governor at a National Rifle Association (NRA) event Saturday night in Anchorage. Palin gave a fire and brimstone speech on the Second Amendment right to bear arms, according to the group.
According to the NRA, Palin’s speech to 120 people was the crescendo of a five-day Gun Collectors Exposition.
Top NRA officials attended Palin’s speech, including association President Ronald Schmeits, Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, and Gun Collectors Committee Chairman Wayne Anthony Ross.
Also, Palin was given several honors, including the NRA’s Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting. This is only the second time in 10 years the award has been presented on behalf of the NRA’s Gun Collectors Committee.”
I just emailed the Blue Dogs and told them they are being selfish and greedy. I hope they will change their minds. We have a town hall meeting here in GP Aug. 14. If we are not out of town, I will go.
re: Republicans and Christianity — It so saddens me to see these two groups “linked” in the minds of American voters. The so-called-Christian politicians are greedy, selfish, mean-spirited, and hypocritical. They are NOT acting as Christians are supposed to act. Anyone who makes a big, public deal about being a Christian will NEVER act like one. You will rarely notice the true Christians because they just go about their business quietly obeying the word of the Lord.
re: Liars for Jesus — Jesus is about Truth and never condones lying.
CG: Seems odd that the NRA would pay a million bucks for Scarah to speak to a local audience of 120 people. If so, good for her. I do not care how much money she makes (although I DO find it hideous that she bilks her fans of their last few bucks of the social security checks). @ Sarah in SC #141: I agree, it’s odd that SP seems reluctant to leave the state. Legal matters may have restricted her travel. Or maybe the rumors of plastic surgery are true.
I wouldn’t put much weight on Sarah’s “one million dollar fee” for speaking to 120 NRA members. Do you truly believe they ponied up $8333 apiece for the privilege of getting some word salad before their rubber chicken?
That figure really is hard to believe, unless the national NRA chipped in for the fee. Where was the amount reported?
hmmmm, 200,000.00 a minute for her speech? Not bloodly likely, maybe she got 10,000.00, but no way are those men going to pay a million with getting a little bit more, if you know what I mean. =)
AKPetMom (at 11:52 AM)–you know, we do that here too, except that we’re “shoo, shooing” the Canadians back across the border. It IS only a few miles away, you know!
I not only want to see Sarah’s high school diploma, I want to see her birth certificate, marriage license, driver’s license, college diploma and birth certificates of all her children. Would also like to see the same info on Todd. Attached to the college diploma I want a transcript of her grades.
I have seen no proof that she and Todd are actually married; maybe, they just jumped the broom. Or since they are in Alaska, they may have simply jumped a wolf carcass or a rifle.
RUMORS of plastic surgery! O my Gosh! That will make her furious!!!!!
Since SP aborted her position as Govern; does she have any official role/title in Alaska? She still have the trust fund-how does she justify using the money?
Hi Mudpups – Head on over to Gryphens and check out the hilarious new cartoon he just posted!
I would like to thank Gryphen for respecting the 1st amendment. Unlike
most of the right leaning blugs I’ve visited that harass those who disagree with them or ban them from their sites, Gryphen allows all points of view to
be heard. He even allows those posts that question his motives to be
viewable. Gryphen does no engage in censorship.
So, unlike those on the right who are always crying and screaming that their Freedom of Speech has been violated and then proceed to violate those
same rights by people who don’t tow the line, Gryphen practices what he believes in.
And that in my opinion is one of the main differences between the right and the left. And to paraphrase SP, the left does not just talk the talk, we allow
others to do the same.
I am 61, and I’m OK with that. In my day, two crushes were kind to me: Jeremy Irons and Sherrill Milnes, in that they flirted with me. (I wasn’t a Bruce person.) If I had lots of money, I might do something small. Who one is means more to me, and, I must say, always has. If you mention ‘Sex in the City’ around me, you are responsible for your own well-being.
Keep in mind Palin was presented with a lifetime membership in the NRA. That’s worth bucks. Also a lot of local memberships and other consolation prizes. Add them on to the speaking fee. Maybe not a million but also a lot more than I expect the Simi Valley women were willing to cough up.
In the world of media, Palin does need some work done. This isn’t my personal opinion, but I’m just sharing the standards for looks that are taken into account in the media.
Compare her face to Fox News Anchors, or Crazy Paula Abdul. Notice how there aren’t any shadows or creases? Some of that is courtesy of good lighting, but mid face lifts are common in Hollywood/TV world, starting in mid-thirties. Palin is behind in this regard.
I’ve often wondered if she had cheek implants because her face shape changed so much over the years. Fillers and Botox, you betcha.
Her cheek pads are sagging and she has a double chin from many angles. She’s going to need to fix that if she’s going to base her career on her looks. She certainly doesn’t have the courage, integrity, or inner beauty to age gracefully and beautifully like Helen Mirren or Diane Lane.
Again, I don’t condone these patriarchal attitudes about beauty– just passing on the standards in an industry I’m very familiar with.
~~~cheers!!!

Now, for being a good soldier, Campbell has gotten a major promotion.
jojobo1, that could be what is up. A retainer-sort of agreement, not for just the one appearance. Or it could just be rumour…
A good place to glean info on Craig Campell is to read an old post AND THE COMMENTS from Andrew Halcro (written before the Nov. election, when Palin was running for VP):
http://www.andrewhalcro.com/a_filtered_letter_to_the_governor
Couldn’t Parnell, now that he IS Guv, choose his own Lt. Guv???

I love to wander the streets in new cities, and plan to do so while there for Netroots Nation. Is Pittsburgh area generally safe? Anyone know?
I think where I got lost was that Palin had designated and the Legislature had confirmed Corrections Commissioner Joe Schmidt as next in line for lieutenant governor in the last Legislature Session. But Schmidt recently resigned from that designation.
So he was the second in line which appears that it wasn’t actually a job until the vacancy opened up for Lt. Gov. So Joe continued on being the Corrections Commissioner with the added value of being confirmed should a vacancy happen. It did. He didn’t!!!!

1,000,000 divided by 120 equals one big bunch of idiots.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
And more-than-likely, it
will have to be split several ways to the many who must be paid to keep their silence.
Lori in LA,
Pittsburgh is generally safe, particularly where you might be wandering.
Wow… just came back from Dan R and RS McCain’s sites and… man, those two sure are full of themselves.
They don’t like mudflats too much, either.
THANK YOU psminidivapa. I will have some sightseeing time Sat. afternoon.
Mudflatter ENOUGHwiththetrainwreck has generously volunteered to “hang” with me for morning seminars, perhaps I can talk her into some sightseeing too. also.

Dan Man, the boogy man!! LOL. Can’t help but laugh at him and the other idiot Stacey or something or other conspiring to have a blog pi$$ing match.
Lori/LA… Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Science Center…too much to do for just an afternoon.
Will you be at Mudstock on Sunday?
psminidivapa: Yes, I WILL be at Sunday Mudstock. Truth be told, it is THE reason I am going to Pittsburgh. Will you be there?
sauerkraut,
Did you hear Dan R’s pod cast? I’ve heard there is a pod cast, but it doesn’t work. Instead people talk about it. It sounds like they are establishing who Gryphen “really is.”
They will know, but no one else will hear it? If it is slander how can G defend himself? Murdoch can smear him with the people who believe whatever this pod cast has stated.
Lori/LA
I’ll be the one in the outrageous corsage.
ps
psminidivapa, I loved your top ten!
ABS,
Thanx. Had this idea of doing something with “Love Shack,” but couldn’t decide if it would work better with Sarah and the Dude, Bristol and Levi???? In the end, decided I wanted to avoid legal issues (since only some are able to speak of former first fam with impunity)
g’day

It’s a wonder they haven’t floated away with the over inflated ego’s them have of themselves! That McCain idiot is surely got some serious issues. He’s hell bent on making sure that Gryphen is not just outed but ruined, but then he posts how he’s irritated because he claims that the Democrats are trying to censor the Republicans!
All this based on the statements of Palins mouthpiece and her legal lapdog that they are not splitting up, and let’s face it we all know what a paragon of truth and honesty Palin and her lackeys are…/sarc.
Ok – it’s late & dont’ know if this will be seen or if someone’s already posted it but HURRAY for Andree – http://www.adn.com/palin/story/888057.html

Anyone hear Craig Furgeson Lastnigt?
Bill Clinton agreed to negotiate for the release of Journalists in N.Korea, as soon as he heard that it involved picking up chicks…
heh …
Well now it seems that Audrey at Palin’s Deceptions has given the hornet’s nest a great big poke.

No matter what you think of her basic contentions, it’s interesting that so far there is not a whiff of denial/threat to sue from the Palin camp.
Is Brian on vacation visiting relatives in coastal Maine? If so, he was spotted…

May I make some suggestions re people’s expectations should Sarah Palin ever sue based on the allegations the baby is not hers?
1) make sure you have your own facts in order; it is as likely that a judge will make YOU present evidence to back up your contention of a non-birth event;
2) unless you understand what goes on in a lawsuit, do not expect that just because you say that she needs to do this or that, or that it will go a certain way, that that is what will absolutely happen;
3) never stand near a rabid dog and dare it to bite you. do that often enough and you will get bit;
4) before you dare anyone to sue you, make sure you either have insurance that provides adequate coverage (including legal defense) or that you are judgment proof;
5) unless your lawyer is better than her lawyer, you are going to lose;
6) anonymous sources provide absolutely no protection to the types of claims being made against Palin;
7) not only may you be able to depose her, she will also be able to depose you; should that happen and you provide no evidence to support your non-birth contention, her attorney could win the case by simply filing a motion for summary judgment; and

A rational defence of Gryphen.
@sauerkraut, I know Camden, and Camden this time of year is no place for a moose! Hope he wasn’t too traumatized by all the attention from the tourists.
@193 Lori in LA
Whew! I got caught in a logic loop and have just barely escaped. I had to leave my bag of chips behind, but managed to hang on to my fuzzy bunny slippers!
I LOVE those bunny slippers.
Rihel is going on the Burke show today to talk about Gryphen.
Check out my post under Fish swiming up the mainstream.
It exposes the LIE being told by UKTV re: pollock fishing does not catch other fish.!
Take it & run with it, I am too busy trying to survive in Maine, home of the everlasting rain…………which has destroyed most of our gardens!
Has anyone out there seen or heard anything about the health care rally in DC a couple of weeks ago…didn’t seem to be anything on TV or print, having a difficult time finding info on the computer…Seems like we’re being censored in any action that offends the corporate profit making greed machine.
Just Sayin – there was mention of a rally in D. C. on 25 June that drew 10,000 at changetown.org
http://www.changetowin.org/connect/2009/06/10000_rally_in_dc_for_health_c.html
Palin’s listed an X-Box game console on E- Bay with an opening bid of 1 million dollars…wow there is no bounds when it is a quest for money..greed is an insidious thing..amazing…
Who said she listed it? Could be someone posing as her to cash in.
As Sloan was pointing his camera at the large welcome [to Wasilla] sign amid a light late-afternoon rain, a black Volkswagen pulled to the side of the road just a few yards behind him. A pony-tailed Palin, wearing a jogging outfit and a headband, stepped out of the car.
“I thought, ‘that looks like Sarah Palin, but it can’t be.’“ Sloan said. “Then, when someone approached her, I heard her say, ‘I’m Sarah.’”
“I was blown away,” Sloan said

Dunno if this has been posted anywhere else but it’s too good to miss. Accosting innocent tourists for publicity now?
I’ve just been reading how Mrs Palin drank Deutz champagne and ordered lobster ‘off the menu’ . . . . .
See? She’s just like us!

Attorney General Dan Sullivan has “sweeping” changes planned for the Executive Branch Ethics Act. Perhaps he should start with himself. In the ADN article they quote him as saying the “leak” would not have happened if the complainant had not be given a copy of the report! Where is the evidence that proves who leaked it??!! Grrrr!!

I’m sure of two things: Kim Chatman will hear about it and Kim Chatman knows a good lawyer or three.
