Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Max Blumenthal is Comin’ to Town!

It’s almost like Christmas for progressives. Max Blumenthal is comin’ to town!   Be prepared to find out who’s naughty and who’s naughtier in the secretive and relatively unknown underworld of the conservative religious right.  His new book Republican Gomorrah explores the roots of the movement and carries the reader all the way through to the present day, and Sarah Palin’s rise to stardom.  It’s a must read.

republicangomorrah

A senior writer for The Daily Beast, Blumenthal’s work has been featured in The Nation, Salon.com, The Huffington Post, The American Spectator, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, The Rachel Maddow Show and others. He is the recipient of the USC Annenberg Online Journalism Award for investigative print journalism. His new book, which is the product of five years of intensive research, interviews, and boots on the ground observation is absolutely riveting.

Mark your calendars for one or all of these opportunities.

The Shannyn Moore Show – Saturday, September 26,  5:00-7:00pm on KBYR 700am.   Shannyn will have Max in the studio for the full two hours.  As always there will be live blogging of the event right here at The Mudflats.

Just to get you even more excited about his upcoming visit, check out the following:

I was glad to have had the opportunity to meet him recently, and enjoyed his sense of humor and his “lighter side.”

Never let it be said that he doesn’t know who to kiss up to.

Max is scheduled for the Morning Joe tomorrow morning. I’m wondering how that’s going to turn out because today, Joe decided to lose his flipping mind and spent the morning saying that Glenn Beck’s agenda is no different than that of Bill Moyers. He said they are soul mates in their fringe focus.

Bill Moyers has recently interviewed authors and researchers trying to shine a light on this insane extreme christian movement. If Joe is equating Beck and Moyers then I hope Max is well prepared for tomorrow’s interview.

I sometimes entertained a thought that Joe might not be as bad as the others. I had hopes he might have been the voice of a balanced moderate.

Obviously , that was idiot thinking. ( hopeful but just dang stupid)

Really looking forward to Max speaking with Shannyn. Very much .

(LOVE the part where the teabagger is asked if he believes immigrants should HAVE to learn English if they want to be citizens, then the camera moves to the very neatly lettered sign he carried: “Politians are like dipers (they need to be changed often and for the same reason)”

The video is now working above. AKM

Max participated in a forum on Firedoglake Saturday, and pointed out that Rachel still has not invited him onto her show. His is the only progressive political book making a decent showing on the NYT Bestseller list against Beck and Coultergeist, and his book has not had nearly the publicity that theirs have. Perhaps Rachel, who has covered C-Street and interviewed Frank Schaeffer recently, needs a bit of encouragement to give Max more exposure? Her email is rachel(at)msnbc.com

I tried to buy this book last week at our Hasting’s, but they didn’t have it. It’s not a small Hasting’s, but this is a very strong christian right town. The clerk looked it up and said, “Well, I just can’t imagine why we don’t have it.”

I can, and I intend to write Hasting’s corporate office and ask them why.

Wow, that was a very disturbing video. Especially the lady who is on Social Security but will give it up and wants the government out of EVERYthing. Someone should tell her how much her share of the cost for road, police, fire departments, schools, sidewalks, traffic lights, etc. will cost her and then we’ll see if she still wants the government to not do anything.

Too bad there isn’t a place where all these government haters could go to live – not any existing country in the world. They can start their own. Wonder how long before they establish some rules and thereby set up . . . a government.

I love this guy. After watching him on Democracy Now! I finally have some insight on what makes the Rapture Republicans tick.

In a nutshell, you can’t know God, really know Him, unless you’ve hit rock bottom – which is why they celebrate hypocrites, the bigger the hypocrite the better.

An not unlike the Muslim Jihadists, lying and stealing or other “no-no’s” according to their religious teachings are absolutely justified if it means furthering God’s goals for the world – but really for the Rapture Republlican, they mean as long as we kick Arabs out of Israel so Jesus can come back in their lifetime then any-means-necessary becomes sanctioned by God Himself.

To this day I do not understand how any adult can watch the 700 Club with a straight face, let along call in to give a credit card number.

This is what the Establishment Clause was intended to avoid, unless of course its inconvenient to political (monry) goals.

I went to Canada to visit my sister last week and took this book along to read while she attended meetings. It blew me away! I read the whole book in one day, then left it for my sister to read. I plan on getting it back from her later as it is an awesome exposé of a very scary bunch of people. I highly recommend this to all who are interested in knowing about the religious right and the infiltration of our government, military, and corporations. I’ll be listening in on Saturday night.

Getting into the last part that I know something about, I think the first edition went to press too soon. I have found some errors. Hoping that the earlier stuff is more examined. The power of the Evangelicals has been so strong. I’m glad that SP’s nomination finally made this apparent.

Thanks for the heads up on Blumenthal’s coming visit. I was out in the bush all summer but heard a review on NPR about this forthcoming book. Got to town a week ago Tuesday and went to B&N on Thursday, sure enough they had it. Can’t hardly find time to put it down. Spot on. He certainly did his research. Sure, there are some minor errors, but have you ever tried to write something this comprehensive without a mistake or two? Great job. Long overdue.

  35. 35

Definitely looking forward to Max’s book. I’ve had it on my to-read list for more than a month now.

I did see Max note in his Firedoglake chat that he hasn’t been on Rachel Maddow’s show as often as he would like. I do think Rachel tends to keep a very diverse guest list, more so than Keith. The reason Max probably isn’t on is that Rachel has Frank Schaeffer on to talk about the issues Max would probably talk about. Frank is a bit more of a direct source on the fundamentalist Christians/Christian Dominionists than Max.

  36. 36

I couldn´t make it through the video….. and not because it is still early in the morning. I think I will have the same reaction tonight.
I´ve heard Ignorance is bliss, but these people don´t seem very happy.
