The Mudflats

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Open Thread – Troll of the Month

Well, I’ve been waiting for more, but I think this one finally gave up.  And that’s a shame really, because its name and message just kept evolving over time.  It has visited several times in the past few weeks and I think it may have visited under another name long ago.

Our troll’s current name?  It started out as twomillion and then grew to twomillionstrong.  I assume that does not refer to the actual two million that showed up for President Obama’s inauguration, but rather to the 60,000 (give or take a bazillion) that attended the Teabagger Rally on 9/12.

But in any case…. sit back, pop a beer, or some corn, or a cup of coffee, whichever is appropriate for your time zone, and enjoy.

F*** you!!

I almost did a coffee spit when I got #5.  And I waited eagerly to see what other possible nightmare appointments twomillionstrong could possibly make to top that one.  And then came #6…  It had to go and get all mad and use a bad word.   I had such high hopes.  Oh, well.  And with that, it slithered back into the mudflats.  And where might this troll be located?  Before you start guessing Texas or Alabama or Arkansas like those we’ve had in the past, cast your stereotypes aside.  This one’s from Pittsfield, Massachussetts!  There are trolls in New England!  I thought they were extinct there, but apparently one has survived.

And with that, I say…

Glenn Beck for Fed Chairman!

Larry Craig for Scoutmaster!

Bill O’Reilly for Secretary of Education!

Dick Cheney for Health and Human Services!

Rush Limbaugh for the head of the Food & Drug Administration!

Carrie Prejean for Governor of Alaska!

Donald Rumsfeld for Secretary of Defense!    Oh, wait….

Pittsfield is fairly conservative and has been so since one of the power companies laid off tons of workers a number of years ago. As a whole – Amherst and Holyoke/Northampton may be exceptions – western MA is conservative. Former Guv Paul Cellucci? Yep… western MA. Same with former Guv Jane (not-so) Swift. I’ve known a number of people from the Pittsfield area but cannot think of a single person who I’d describe as a Democrat. The description of the person – especially the persistence bitterness – reminds me of a woman (Leslie G.) I worked with who married a Pittsfield man who was a conservative MA Turnpike board member. She is a NJ native.

Until..about 5 years ago..the troll related info for me..was from myth and as an evocative ‘personification’..of many human smallnesses and quirky-ills. Now..I have learned about the situation in todays world..and consider them to be a handy..although unpleasant bit of gravel..that one moves over, and past..whenever/wherever they..insinuate themselves. In the extended family tree..we have only one..who has that brittleness of spirit..and poverty of mind..to circle, tightly..around the little, personal mudpit..which will continue ..belching such comments..day after week, after year. In the ‘persons’ life..we find that it is mainly when goes off of the meds..sad to say. As to the troll you point out to us now, only infirmity..will quiet his/her urges to deposit a residue of..venom. A lack of emotional, and..intel. elasticity..is terminal..unless they (the communal..’they)..are engaged in on going dialogue..and thoughtful, calm conversation. Usually those more virulent..sorts..are buffered by personal isolation, a lack of feeling important and valued in their situation..whatever..it may be. A board like this..offers the troll..actually nothing more than a brief ..scratching of an itch..their perception. For all the rest of us..it allows us to study the problem..and find ways to move forward..each hour/day..and seek to upgrade..how we educate, teach critical thinking skills..so that we might pass on the ability to teach in a wide appreciation..for what can be done..if thinking is..encouraged. In a nutshell (yes..pun intended) you must first..help erase their box/shell/isolation..by bringing to their mental vision….a trek back into their childhood..so that you may help them..’See’..how they came to depend upon same answers..and avoid..new thinking.

    LEAVING ON A JET PLANE
(sung to the John Denver song “Leaving On A Jet Plane”)

All her bags are packed, she’ll “go with the flow”
Dressed like a flight attendant ‘ho
To save some dough Palin will fly stand-by
The “First Dude” must stay home, he’s so forlorn
Stapleton’s waiting, she’s blowing her horn
There’s so much stuff in Hong Kong she will buy

She’s itchy yet smiles with glee
Giddy that they’ll pay her fee
She’s more famous now than Plumber Joe
She’s leavin’ on a jet plane
We hope that she won’t come back again
We love to see her go

At Kai Tak Airport her plane sets down
Nobody greets her with a crown
Don’t those Asians even know a thing?
She hopes that her room has a nice view
She hopes that she can see Russia too
Damn, she forgot that present for their king

She’s itchy yet smiles with glee
Giddy that they’ll pay her fee
She’s more famous now than Plumber Joe
She’s leavin’ on a jet plane
We hope that she won’t come back again
We love to see her go

Now the time has come, her debut
They will learn, she has no clue
Averted eyes hope she fades away
They didn’t know she was dumb
Now they want her to just go home
Boarding that jet plane without delay

She’s itchy yet smiles with glee
Happy that they paid her fee
Thinking of the ways she’ll spend her dough
She’s leavin’ on a jet plane
That Hong Kong trip was such a pain
She should have just said “no”

She’s leavin’ on a jet plane
That Hong Kong trip was such a pain
She should have just said “no”.

So Joe McGinnis will donate $100,000 to a Vet charity if princess winky agrees to a full 4 hour dinner. This is an official calling out of the twit. She is damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t. That Joe is pretty savvy. She’s been holed up avoiding interviews since Katie revealed her lack of intellect. After that just greta & insanity. Those interviews were akin to having your mom and dad interviewing you. If she doesn’t agree to it she better be prepared to fork over a hundred grand herself to that charity. This is something that must be hammered every day. She’ll want it to go away, we can’t let it. There was mention in the comments over at huffpo of starting a fund that would go to charity to increase the purse to force her to submit. I’m poor, but I’ll contribute. What a fantasy, sarah refuses to do interview that would mean half a million bucks to the vets.

They tried this in CO last year and were defeated 3 to 1. They use abortion as a hot button but what they want is even more control over women’s bodies.

Another lesser known action by the x-stains was to raise the price of birth control pills for clinics and college health services via the 2005 Budget Reconciliation Act. Yep, no more discounts for Planned Parenthood. To get this changed here is a petition to Congress to fix this situation and restore affordable birth control.

Georgia is looking for federal disaster funds…

    ***WARNING: RANT COMING!!!***

Evelyn, please remove your blinders. I live smack dab of the hell that is going on now in the Atlanta Metro area and trust me, it doesn’t matter where you live, you deserve emergency help. We are a heck of a lot bigger population and area wise than New Orleans (Katrina – remember that???), and we have as bad, if not worse, flooding here.

Check out the photo slideshows at http://www.ajc.com for one, then try http://www.cbsatlanta.com, etc. Heck…GOOGLE IT! Educate yourself, please, before you go off on “Georgia is looking for federal disaster funds”, even if the Reds/Rethugs are in charge.

We have interstate highways closed, fish on those interstates trying to get back to where they should be (and losing the battle), bridges and roads gone, 2 story homes completely under water, an entire town evacuated due to a levee break, schools completely under water, hospitals without water or sewage treatment abilities and areas where there have never been floods before.

A family with 2 kids (one 2 yo, the other 1 yo) had their home torn in 2 – the 2 yo was found dead in one part of the broken up home, found some distance from the foundation; the rest of the family was rescued from trees – they got out of the broken home. I may be hosting some former co-workers who live less than 5 miles from me that have lost everything!

You try living with over 24″ of rain in your area since last Tuesday morning.

    *** RANT OVER***

I’m currently running off of a neighbor’s wireless network since my phone doesn’t work (yes, I only have dial up, since I’ve been out of work since January). But I have power, so I can’t complain too much.

    Honolulu Advertiser:

Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin will address fund managers in Hong Kong today in a speech that may augment both her bank account and overseas profile ahead of a possible 2012 White House bid.

Palin’s appearance in Hong Kong has generated a mixed response from the financial community. Investor Marc Faber, a fellow speaker at the CLSA conference who publishes the Gloom, Boom and Doom Report, said he has no plans to attend Palin’s presentation.

“I would not waste my time with hearing what a totally ignorant character has to say about the world,” Faber said in an e-mail.

[According to various news sources, Dr. Marc Faber had been scheduled to speak WITH Sarah.]

Palin will probably tell investors that Obama’s health care plan may saddle the U.S. with a heavy debt burden for years to come, said Uwe Parpart, chief Asia strategist at Cantor Fitzgerald LP in Hong Kong. Investors outside the U.S. have helped finance unprecedented budget deficits, buying 43.1 percent of the $1.41 trillion of notes and bonds sold by the Treasury Department this year, government figures show.

“There is a lot at stake, and Palin in some ways symbolizes that for a lot of people,” said Parpart, who worked for the U.S. White House National Security Council under President Ronald Reagan. “She’s certainly a significant spokesperson for this kind of social conservative anti-Obama movement, which has picked up steam recently and chalked up some important successes.”

Scheunemann advising Palin for ‘wide-ranging’ Hong Kong talk

John McCain’s campaign foreign policy advisor, Randy Scheunemann, has emerged as an advisor to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as she attempts to build a serious public profile and begins to build a network of aides and advisors typical of a national politician.

Scheunemann confirmed this evening that he’s with Palin in Hong Kong, where she is delivering a paid speech at a conference hosted by the brokerage house CLSA, which has in the past heard keynotes from Bill Clinton and Al Gore.

His presence offers a clue as to who in the McCain orbit has survived a bitter set of post-campaign recriminations, and suggests that this won’t be an anodyne foreign policy address, and one source familiar with it says it’ll be a wide-ranging talk encompassing everything from the financial crisis, health care, and energy to Afghanistan and policy toward China and the entire East Asian region.

Scheunemann been a sharp critic of many aspects of Obama’s approach, most recently scoffing at what he described as a “unilateral preemptive concession” to Russia on missile defense bases in Eastern Europe. Scheunemann, an early supporter of the Iraq war, is prominent in the hawkish, internationalist, neo-conservative wing of the party’s foreign policy thought, and his place beside Palin also offers a bit of a clue as to the direction in which her vaguely-defined foreign policy views are likely to develop. Two other Republican policy hands, worked on the speech as well, I’m told: AEI China expert Dan Blumenthal and D.C. lawyer Kim Daniels.
