Sarah Palin is a Verb!

WINGNUT[1]

Sarah Palin has been accused of being many things, but a verb wasn’t one of them.  At least, not until now.

Yes, she’s been promoted to a part of speech by none other than Glenn Beck, in his latest entertaining and incomprehensible paranoid rant.  It is worthy of note that even South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham, the fringiest of the conservative right is trying to distance his party from Beck.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, (R-S.C.) offered unusually blunt assessments of the fringe elements of his party and conservative media on Thursday, calling the popular and bombastic Fox News host Glenn Beck a “cynic” whose show was antithetical to American values.

“Only in America can you make that much money crying,” Graham said of Beck. “Glenn Beck is not aligned with any party. He is aligned with cynicism and there has always been a market for cynics.

There are those who would say that his assessment of Beck as a cynic falls a little short of the mark. And as for Beck not being ”aligned with any party?”  Nice try.

I’ll tell you the truth. I don’t care. I am willing to go into the night, broke for what I believe in. I am willing to lose everything. I am willing….I am willing to be alone! It doesn’t …it doesn’t bother me. I believe that our eternal souls are at stake when it comes to freedom. If we don’t stand for freedom, I believe our souls are at stake. I damn near lost my soul once. I ain’t gonna play with that. I made a bargain for my soul, and that is … if you just give me another chance. If you just take all this stuff away, if you give me another chance, I won’t make that mistake again. Shoot me in the head. I am not going to violate what I believe is right. My soul is more important than dollars, more important than my life, it’s more important than anything. Period.

But mark my words, I will tell you the truth. I will tell you that in my past I’ve done bad things. I’ve already… I mean, read my books…. Hello. Very clear. I was a bad dude. You don’t roll up in a ball, you know, in a fetal position on the floor thinking about putting a gun in your mouth if you’re a good guy! Why would you do that? I couldn’t live with myself any more. Got it? But I will tell you this. I’ll admit to my mistakes. But I do believe he is right. It’s only a matter of time before they find a way to destroy me. And that’s fine! And they’re going to try to use me to intimidate you. Because anybody else get’s out of line that’ll happen to you too! Don’t think that what happened to Sarah Palin didn’t go through my mind when I saw my character on Saturday Night Live and we all laughed, and my wife said, “My gosh, they have you down. I mean, that is really…I mean even your mannerisms and your moves.” Don’t think that I didn’t feel like, “Oh my gosh, they’re going to ‘Sarah Palin’ me.” That’s what they want you to understand. You get outta line, we’ll destroy you.

Bring it on, Jack! I don’t really care. You know, many days, like today quite honestly, I got up and I thought, “I don’t know how much longer I can do this. I’m tired. I’m tired. I’m tired of the…the thought of someone always constantly out to getcha. Constantly. Do you have any idea what it’s like to … I don’t talk in restaurants any more. I can’t talk in restaurants because somebody is listening. Somebody will take anything that I say take it and twist it out of context. I can’t go out in public with my family any more. That’s crazy talk!  That’s crazy.

So, go ahead. Because quite honestly, I know when my job’s done, my job’s done and whatever happens I’ll go back to my regular life.

Let’s forget for a moment that he just said that all suicidal people are “bad guys,” and forget that if you suggest he go to a restaurand you are engaging in “crazy talk.”  Let’s just focus on the part where he says that he is perfectly willing to be broke and alone and lose his job and go back to his “regular life.”   Sounds like a great idea.  Bring it on, Jack!

What a moron Beck is, and his audience is worse. Salon had a recent 3 part article on this idiot, which makes clear that his present crazy rants are a mere extention of his history of a drug-addled juvenile publicity seeking “morning zoo” radio jock. But instead of stupid pranks, he is trafficking in violence and murder by inciting his insane “followers”.

First of all, Glenn needs a holiday. He should work in a private domain. Not in the spotlight. Sounds like someone with a martyr, persecution complex. It’s very revealing, what he said. Only a psychiatrist would know from just listening to that.

No one forced him to be a public national tv name. He chose to do it, probably because he’s got that “narcissism” thing going. Likes attention. He chose this career regardless of how it might affect his family, like going out to restaurants. He chose to rile the crowds and call leaders names on national tv, and he wonders why he can’t find peace when he goes out in crowds?

And, lastly, he thinks they had it out for SP. Who are these people?
In Ghostbusters, they got “slimed”. In media, they get “palined”.

    boodogNo Gravatar says:

It is interesting that he seems to bring up suicide so often, almost like a threat. Childish. Beck always claimed his mother killed herself when the police reports on her death were ruled an accident- drowning while fishing. Add that to all the Norm from Cheers ‘crying and I think Beck is just an insecure, money/fame hungry drama queen. And dangerous.

According to the Urban Dictionary, there are a number of definitions for “palinize.”
Bluster, speak without saying anything of substance
    Flub a TV interview
Randomly repeat talking points regardless of question given to you
Avoid giving substantial answer to a factual question
Exaggerate by truth or lie by omission
Firing people who divorce your family members
    Use elected power for evil
Ability to point out Real America from Fake America
    Dumb

(They do not include quitting an elected office to make more money because others have done that too.)

There are two things about the Urban Dictionary which made this research project very funny:
Throughout the page, there were ads to donate to Sarah Pac
Urban Dictionary has a very rude definition of “Going Rogue.”

Most people around here can’t stand the idiot and are embarassed he’s from here. He’s single handedly managed to re-define the term of “wingnut” for all time.

When he was to be presented with the ‘key to the city’ of Mount Vernon, Wash., some 16,000 people there signed a petition to the mayor to NOT give him the key. This was a far greater number than those supported the mayor’s unilateral action. The mayor is now considered as dead meat in the next election, and will have a tough time for the rest of his term. Not even the city council supported his decision.

I am proud to say that I called 6 current sponsors of the Glenn Beck show yesterday explaining why I would never be using their brands again due to their financial support of Beck’s racism: Warner Brothers, Roche, Target, Citrix (GoToMyPC), Jos A. Bank, and one more. I did this through the ColorofChange.com website.

All the Media Relations people I spoke to said that they had gotten lots of calls against Beck. It took ten minutes to make the calls. I didn’t even use the script, because I was able to passionately explain how, beginning in 2007 on a radio show, Beck first began to talk about Obama as being “too white.” Now, in 2009, it’s that Obama hates white people. Beck has ONLY judged Obama through the prism of race for years, and that is the definition of a racist. I also explained that their brands are not irretrievably tarnished through their sponsorship of Beck.

I urge others to sign up with Color of Change and work to remove Beck from the airwaves.

GOING ROGUE – let’s be realistic

The political junkie in me is expecting, thanks to the title, an in-depth analysis of the chaotic end days of both the McCain campaign and her gover—– of Alaska. How interesting would that be, this principal’s detailed view of the clash of her fringe base with the GOP strategists in the pressure cooker of a national campaign? Compare and contrast in 400 pp or less with the trade-offs and alliances of governing Alaska, the juggling of widely disparate interests in an extreme environment. Great, sign me up!

Uh, wait, she built no political capital in her home state, much less nationally. She is not in any sense a politician — a herd animal that lives and breathes connections and influence. She’s just a wacky loner who inspires other wacky loners equally averse to ongoing social interaction. There will be no reflection on past events and relationships.

So the behavioral scientist in me sighs, and realizes that extrapellating from the known record for both Palin and Lynn Vincent, we can arrive at the almost certain conclusion that GOING ROGUE will consist of a Dominionist tract heavy on the self-exculpation, with Steve Schmidt & Levi & Obama & almost any reporter cast as equally bad guys. There will not be a hint of confession or remorse on any of the “-gates.” The words “faith” and “family” will appear at least 400 times. The final chapter will punch home the message that she is ready and available to lead “real” Americans/fundamentalist Xtians to the promised land — and the White House is just a waypoint before the Rapture.

“Education expert Kevin Jennings wrote the forward to a book about education, and education expert William Ayers wrote a blurb for the back. To Hannity, that’s a huge story. To everyone else – especially those that read the book’s forward, in which Jennings controversially called for valuing “every human being as a precious gift” and looked forward to the day when students could “walk down our streets without fear” — it’s a sad commentary on Hannity’s obsession with Ayers and his need for attention.

But while Hannity is having an on-air mid-life crisis over Jennings, Beck has yet to mention the man’s name. The carnival music is playing, but the self-described “rodeo clown” isn’t responding to his cue. Is it possible that Beck has decided that this smear is so sleazy even he won’t touch it? If only Meg was still around to hold a Press Conference and complain that someone had desecrated the ‘ Iconic image ‘ of a true REAL American.

The graphic would be sure to go viral that way. Poor Meg… where is she when we need her the most.

Is there one particular link where all of Flyinureye’s wonderful graphics are maintained? A collection of those might be a great seller, whether as a small book, calendar, notecards, etc.

I would love nothing better than to have notecards to send a weekly note to my dear sister and her jerk of a husband who adores Palin and is a dyed-in-the-wool rightwingnut.

BTW – Jeff Sharlett is on Rachel Maddow right now – talking about C Street and the Family again.

Beck’s musings sound like the loss of sponsors and the blow back from his nastiness is starting to rumble his inflated throne.
Everything he is complaining about happening to him is exactly what he has done to others, can he be so blind?
He sounds like he is trying to cover every angle, not knowing from which will come the final blow that boots him out of his tv job.
“Oh just today…I am so tired….I don’t know if I can do this anymore, poor me. Oh dear, I feel like crap, I’m about to lose my job and my wife isn’t all that happy with me either…oh dear. Well, I’ll act like it is my great sacrifice in the fight for freedom. I’ll cry, they’ll pity me and I’ll go home and write another book.”
Beck has enough to live on the rest of his life, he won’t even suffer a day if he gets fired.
But…he needed to be popular, how is that going to feel, being hated?

rylly, you hit it on the head: Beck needs to be popular. He has enough money, and I don’t think it is power with him. It is the same kind of neediness for attention a drama queen or person with Munchausen’s has. The big baby…

Here’s the link to a YouTube video about Beck – applying Vicks under his eyes to help him cry for his show.

    BuffaloGal and GreatGranny2B:

Thanks for the Glenn Beck videos showing how he really produces his tears. The videos confirm what I’ve long suspected: Beck manipulates a viewer’s emotions because it brings in the money.

On a related note, my study group got a great laugh last week when we were practicing timed speeches with questions from an audience. I was not able to get back to my talking points quickly enough, but brought down the house with, “I’m no Sarah Palin, but…” before trying to “pivot” back. :)

Beck plays all the angles. A veritable smorgasbord of emotional manipulations of the viewer:

-self-pity…”just give me another chance”…”I’m tired. I’m tired. I’m tired of the…the thought of someone always constantly out to getcha.”

-roguish defiance…”I don’t care. I’m willing to go into the night.”….” Bring it on, Jack! I don’t really care.”

-”fundie” patriotism…”If we don’t stand for freedom, I believe our souls are at stake.”

-melodrama…” I made a bargain for my soul..” (I really don’t want to hear the back story on this one)

-confession…”You don’t roll up in a ball, you know, in a fetal position on the floor thinking about putting a gun in your mouth if you’re a good guy! Why would you do that?”

-repentance…”I couldn’t live with myself any more.”….” I’ll admit to my mistakes.”

-paranoia…” “Oh my gosh, they’re going to ‘Sarah Palin’ me.” That’s what they want you to understand. You get outta line, we’ll destroy you.”

-victimization…”It’s only a matter of time before they find a way to destroy me.”….“I don’t know how much longer I can do this.”

He sounds mentally ill to me….or a very manipulative actor. So, he’s the right-wing’s idea of a standard bearer for their ideology?? Nothing ideological about it…..it’s all about playing on the viewer’s emotions. He reminds me of Jim Bakker (the disgraced televangelist) who used to cry piteously for donations to his TV empire.

Beckanoia is the absolute epitome of an UNTREATED alcoholic/drug addict. That explains EVERYTHING about him and his actions. He knows he is making millions and could care less about any of his followers.

I would suggest that if Glenn Beck truly wants to save his soul, then he needs to stop with all of the hate and fear mongering.
The man is definitely a borderline schizophrenic, if not full blown. I’d bet he’s been in a Clinical Depression for years upon years, without the proper treatment.
In one breath he calls himself a clown, the next crazy. He is both. And he desperately needs psychiatric help. How old is he? Guessing at mid 40′s. If it took this may years to eff him up, it will take at least 20 something years of psychiatric care with meds and talk therapy to help him achieve some kind of ‘normalness’.
This man is a danger to society and himself. They could legally have him committed without a crime being involved, depending on whet state he resides in. I’m betting N.Y.
Can you even imagine being one of his children? God, he is destroying their lives.

    Eykis,

I agree with you. But usually there is an underlying reason why people become alcoholic/drug addicts. He may have been schizoid/clinically depressed as a child.

That is classic republican projectionism. That’s pretty much all their good at anymore. Projecting on to others and having big, loud temper tantrums.

    @maryb #72,

Beck must be around 44 years old, as he graduated from my high school, in the class one year behind.

When Beck attended high school here he was in the drama club and choir. He’s had a lot of years to practice his theatrics.

I don’t remember him, but my friend got our her annual and checked him out. She said he was cute back then, but that some people age better than others, and he’s not one that has held up well. Maybe that thing our mothers said about “keep making that face and it’ll get stuck that way” really is true?
