Well done, Irish. Love your use of green also, too.
This and the contests on wonkette and palingates are hilarious. I can’t look at them for too long with all the blinking things, but have a feeling this will be like the photo shopping of the “iconic image.” Couldn’t happen to a more deserving ghost-written book, imo.
“One such aspect of speech and communication disruption, in the schizophrenic, involves a complication known as “word salad”. During an expression of “word salad”, the schizophrenic patient may use any combination of language, including coherent words and non-coherent words. Additionally, the words may be jumbled, in an improper sequence and may be unintelligable. In psychology terms, this conditions is also known as schizophasia.”
Since you mentioned our girl Sarah. Take a look at The Daily Dish by Andrew Sullivan
A very funny vido titled “Sarah Palin Has Some Relatives In Australia”.
Its not about Sarah.
Not really.
Just sort of the way she reasons.
For folks wanting to have some playtime with the Blingee app , go to : http://www.blingee.com Small learning curve but if you’ve used any point n’ click image editors in the past, it’s a quick one.
Meet the Press was a good one. Afghanistan, unemployment/economy, whether POTUS is making headway, the left/right divide and the olympics.
Decent dicussion, Rachel made really good points. Just wish there was more time for extended debate. Just as she would be gearing up to really get in to it, it was on to the next person or topic. At one point the discussion about Palin’s co-author being an extemist was just opening up and she had a great opportunity to put this info out to a wider audience and, poof! Time was up.
If I were to do a book cover, I’d change the title to “Goin’ Broke”. Because that’s what’s going to happen, in the best of all worlds. Now they are both unemployed, taking care of all their children and grandchildren, and traveling the country on other peoples’ dimes. Hopefully all the gates will come crashing down at the same time and she’ll lose it all. What she’s doing is HARDLY an American life.
Oh, and government sponsored health care for her and her family. Go figure. That 2% (or whatever) Native blood coursing through Tahd’s veins is apparently worth something to her. Too bad she didn’t use that connection to his past to help the Native populations in Alaska before she quit. What a waste of time she is.
BuffaloGal @12 – I just watched MTP and agree – never enough time for substantive discussions. One thing that came across (and also on Rachel’s prior appearance) is the almost dismissive way Gregory and some of the men react to Rachel. Is it because she’s obviously brilliant and on the fast-track to the top and it frightens them? Or are they simply against her because she has chosen an alternative lifestyle?
Whenever Peggy Noonan is on MTP (or any other shows), she drags out her statements in such a pedantic manner, but is given all the time she wants, and is treated as such a learned and respected old gal.
I think MTP would do so much better with almost anyone besides Gregory as the moderator. He only asks tough questions and pins people down when it suits him, as if he’s afraid of people like Cheney and McCain. He’s given too many free passes to some real characters, he’s obviously a Republican, and I rarely watch the show anymore.
I wonder if Palin and Stapleton used a dictionary before picking a title, and if so what definition of “rogue” they are using:
- a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel?
- a tramp?
- an inferior organism?
- a cheater?
- having an abnormally savage disposition?
- an unprincipled, deceitful, and unreliable person?
-vicious and solitary?
I”ve always maintained that Palin suffers from logorrhea:
“is defined as an “excessive flow of words” and, when used medically, refers to incoherent talkativeness occurring in certain kinds of mental illness, such as mania. Logomania is the medical condition of mania with the underlying symptom logorrhoea. The spoken form of logorrhoea (in the non-medical sense) is a kind of verbosity which uses superfluous (or fancy) words to disguise an otherwise useless message as useful or intellectual, and is commonly known as “verbal diarrhea” or “diarrhea in the mouth”.”
google it for big fun– Princess Logorrhea, Logorrhea Barbie, etc. It explains a lot.
I love the book titles above!!! Wow! What a list:-)
You know…I was thinking…lol! Just couldn’t believe that so many people would pre-order a book about Sarah. Of course these are all the people with 4th grade level reading skills and they are hoping there are lots of pictures. They will be surprised since it was not written by her. These folks will need to have a dictionary nearby for any words longer than two syllables. It’s a sad commentary regarding this country that people actually think that she has anything to say that would be worthwhile. Sometimes I am downright frightened, also, you betcha!
And a comment on NTP. I love Rachel, but really cannot tolerate David Gregory aka “monkey boy”. I know, I know, name calling is rude, but I feel rude today. I did not watch it because I cannot listen to him and stay sane. I would love to see Rachel vault over him and take over the show. She has a great mind and really makes me think about some things in new ways. That’s what this country needs. And the fact that her “lifestyle” is the same as mine doesn’t hurt. Yes, Republicans…people you consider degenerates have brains hehehe.
Well the twitterverse seems to agree that Rachel was strong, had great debate, and was often cut off by the others and sometimes in a sort of dismissive way.
I’m tellin’ ya – I fantasize about a new network for news, analysis and debate. The best views from all sides of the issues. And yes , as it’s my fantasy, I run the place. It’d be a network with a spine. Think – a Hulk version of PBS. And there’d be no erectile dysfunction or Cymbalta commecials. ( no Ovaltine commercials either. Those manic stepford families freak me out ) Clever, timely and freakin’ Fact Checked!
Yep – this is where my fantasy life has gone to and on Sunday news days, it’s in high gear.
When I was in high school, there was a kid in the class with an unusual talent. When he opened his mouth, he was able to keep talking and literally “run out the clock.” Whenever the teacher asked a hard question or was about to hand out a homework assignment, his hand would shoot up, he would open his mouth, and we would all sit back in pure admiration of his skill. I thought that he would become a lawyer with that talent, but no, he became a doctor.
When I first heard Sarah trying to answer a question, I heard my former classmate, playing for time, not really saying anything, keeping the mouth moving until the person came up with another question. She used all of those extra filler words and phrases which she thought made her appear intelligent. After hearing her do this the second or third time, I realized that it was a skill to cover her lack of knowledge.
With a wink and a smile, she charmed many people into thinking that she had actually said something. When Tina Fey used Sarah’s exact response to Katy Couric’s questions in the SNL skit, it finally showed the Palin’s Word Salad for what it was. So, in honor of the Tossed Salad Book Cover, I think that the title should be changed to “Going Radish.”
Corie @27 – LOVE the idea of Rachel hosting MTP ! That is a perfect choice. Give her a year or so of kicking butt the way she’s doing and I can see that happening. Strong, fair, well prepped, insightful, quick thinking, ability to dissect complex issues. Yep. That’s a great thought.
@ Cori 27 and Buffalogal 31, I couldn’t agree with you two more! I was just coming here to voice my distaste for D. Gregory. I yelled at my TV when he asked Susan Rice whether it was a mistake for the President to lobby for the Olympics in person. Aren’t there more important things he could ask her? Then for Rachel Maddow (who should have that show) to point out that all the other leaders attended, for crying out loud HE is the host of that show and he knows less about the subject than his guests do. Not to mention, what is wrong with our President representing our best interests whether he succeeds or not? I rather have a President try and fail then not try at all.
Another good title from Bill Maher show “Snide and Prejudice.” #17 GreatGranny2B, I agree, the last time Rachel was on MTP with d*ckhead armey
I thought that gregory & armey treated Rachel in a dismissive fashion also. I think choosing david gregory as Tim Russert’s replacement was one of the
biggest mistakes nbc ever made. I’ll never forget him doing the “rap dance” with turdblossom. It sticks with me like fat *ss rushbo bouncing on the stage at some republican thing. No amount of bleach will ever burn either one of those images from my mind’s eye….
“Only in America can you make that much money crying…I mean, you know, what [do] I think about Rush Limbaugh? Well, I think he makes hundreds of millions of dollars being able to talk on the radio.”
But the real question, according to Graham, is: “how many people in my business are going to be controlled by what’s said on the radio or in a TV commercial…Glenn Beck is not aligned with any party as far as I can tell. He’s aligned with cynicism, and there’s always been a market for cynicism.”
In a Huffpo story Bill Krystol ( the one who ‘ vetted ‘ Sarah ) was on Fox and was literally ‘ giddy ‘ over the fact that the Olympics went somewhere else.
{ I am sure that Sarah got even more of a rise out of him though }
Obama was merely following though with the same objectives that were started under Bush in supporting the Chicago Olympic bid. All the Committees and lobbying efforts were set up years ago and Obama was merely following through with those.
When these Repug trolls want to make this out to be something else other than that…. just let them read President Bush’s Official Letter in WH Archives. I searched and found it this morning. You might want to save the link.
I watched Face the Nation this morning and Bob Schieffer had a great final comment about the Chicago Olympics bid. His point was that Obama’s visit didn’t make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things, and anyone (on either side) who says otherwise is blowing it way out of proportion. Best response to the story that I’ve heard yet.
“Frankly, it didn’t seem all that big a deal to me. I said at one point that if a trip to Copenhagen took his presidency over the side, then it wasn’t much of a presidency.
Anyway, he’s back. Nothing happened.
When I drove in this morning, the Washington Monument was still standing. The problems that were here when he left are still here – no better, no worse but so bad, my guess is the great Copenhagen gambit will soon be forgotten. ”
We’ve always known the Irish to be creative geniuses: Swift, Yeats, Shaw, Beckett, Heaney, Van Morrison, U2…and now – IrishGirl!

I am tickled pink over this. I didn’t know that AKM was going to post it. Am I famous?
This is a heart warming read for anyone who is gay, loves someone who is gay or simply loves a good heart warming story about love and acceptance. A young man who was struggling with coming out reached out to the community over at Daily Kos to ask for advice and support as he was considering finally coming out to his folks.
The first 4 sections are his updates to his diary which is listed below the updates. His coming out story unfolded over the past 24 hours or so. He ties the experience in with the anger and fear of the extreme right and it’s a perfect piece to read as balance to the crazies. ( his coming out beats the beejeebers out of mine!!) Check out how many people responded to him. Beautiful !
I wonder if palin even has the ability to self-analyze or if she has ANY thoughts about how she is viewed by the masses b/c of her limits and her behavior, her wisdom?, her ignorance, her tunnel-vision….???
Rachel was the bomb on MTP today…she is always the articulate, quick-thinking participant in any debate or conversation. I wish I had a sliver of her abilities.
I just got an email offer from NEWSMAX offering the Palin book for either FREE or $8.95 depending on which subscription offer you want. Get um while they are HOT! Comedy!
BuffaloGal @44 – Excellent read and very touching. I have any number of relatives (both male and female) who are gay, and I remember a couple of aunts from some 50 years ago who were lesbians. Most of our family was very accepting, actually we rarely thought anything one way or another. They were just family and we all loved one another – warts and all. I think my grandfather was the catalyst who drummed tolerance into us from an early age. He, his parents, and his wife and her family were all French-Canadian immigrants and were subjected to their own attacks of prejudice against them.
Someday (hopefully in the not too distant future) everyone will have equal rights and not be looked down upon for their choices…….and another generation or two will read a bit of history about this issue and wonder why it ever was an issue.
Since this is an open thread, http://www.change.org/changemakers?page=1 is the link where you can nominate and vote on people who are trying their best to (re)make a world fit for all of us, and those who follow us, to live in.
This is him hitting it head on in the CNN Situation Room. Give the guy credit for standing up for what he was elected to do, and taking no prisoners (or insurance BS).
@47 BooBooBear, I agree that this is why the Sarah Failin, “An American Lie” book has hit #1 in pre-sales: every right wing org in the country bought thousands for fund raising and to push their agendas. Give ‘em credit for sticking together. Those that think progressively & more independently rarely behave in such lock-step, but it is what we are up against.
Crikey – I don’t know how I could’ve forgotten dear Oscar Wilde amongst all the irish geniuses. As a way of making it better, I’ll throw him in along with Liam Neeson. I’m sure Oscar would be pleased…
Here is a ‘ nice ‘ little story written about Alaska’s Capital Juneau.
It sort of describes and puts everything into perspective. He ends his little story with this quote…
“And with Palin gone to the rubber-chicken and book-flogging circuits, it’s even bluer. But once again, Juneau is a media backwater.”
Now THAT’S classy!! ROFL!!
OMG….what a shock I got when I clicked onto the blog just now. I am laughing so hard. Thanks AKM!
Irish ! Love it.
That’s fantastic! Irishgirl what a great find

BuffaloGal @12 – I just watched MTP and agree – never enough time for substantive discussions. The book title would probably be more fitting had they left the ‘f’ out of ‘life.’
THIS is funny!!! Paul Jenkins found Palin’s manuscript and tells us what is in it!

Irishgirl and BuffaloGal, those are so great! (I loved the lips on your other one, too Irish!)

Those that think progressively & more independently rarely behave in such lock-step, but it is what we are up against.
scuse the spelling
Irishgirl, I love your Word Salad cover! Fantastic!
Crikey – I don’t know how I could’ve forgotten dear Oscar Wilde amongst all the irish geniuses. As a way of making it better, I’ll throw him in along with Liam Neeson. I’m sure Oscar would be pleased…
Liam Neeson… my heart is melting!

Here’s a good article about how kids as young as 11 are finally seeing some support for GLBT in their schools and communities:

60 Minutes is covering coal.
Open thread? Good.
Read this blog, if you haven’t already. I haven’t eaten 4-legged animals in nearly 3 years. Went cold Turkey. I rarely eat chicken or turkey.
