“Standard” Practice Takes Down Alaska Standard?

An attempted visit to local conservative pundit Dan Fagan’s site, The Alaska Standard reveals this:

akstandard

Dum-da-dum-dum…..

(strokes chin)

A little bird told me this has everything to do with The Alaska Standard‘s standard practice of taking photos for use on their site, without permission from this site that actually owns the photos.  What’s the word for that again?…. Hmmm.  (thumbing through dictionary) Ah!  That’s it!

Main Entry: 1steal
Pronunciation: \ˈstēl\
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): stole \ˈstōl\; sto·len \ˈstō-lən\; steal·ing
Etymology: Middle English stelen, from Old English stelan; akin to Old High German stelan to steal
Date: before 12th century

intransitive verb 1 : to take the property of another wrongfully and especially as a habitual or regular practice

Guess they should have brushed up on their Old High German.

    Well well well.

You would think respecting copyrights is something Dan Fagan and his motley crew would have done. After all they have enough reasons to misbehave in other ways.

Didn’t Dan Fagan pull a switcheroo months ago and apologize to all he wronged? Including the infamous quitter? Back then it seemed like a melodramatic exercise in absolution and repentance.

As I recall, a C4P nutjob joined the Standard’s staff. How did that work out for them?

too bad – the other day, Dan had an audio on his site where he interviewed Frank Murkowski to get Frank’s opinion on why Palin quit. It was interesting.
I doubt the audio link will work (due to the site being down, duh) but here is what it said:
Frank “The Bank” on Sarah “The Quitter”
    By Dan Fagan
    Publisher
    The Alaska Standard
“Former Governor Frank Murkowski made a startling observation about former Governor Sarah Palin on my radio show yesterday. Murkowski wondered if Palin quit because prospects of the gas pipeline were dimming. I also asked Murkowski if he planned on buying Palin’s book. To hear his answer click on the audio link below.”

Other words that come to mind are copyright violation, plagiarism and intellectual property rights.

May I assume Fagan dropped out of High School as an explanation for his utter lack of knowledge regarding copyright, plagiarism and proper citations? Not to mention the courtesy of asking permission?

Of course, if Fagan is a republican, that could explain everything.

My favorite part of this is that local conservative bully Eddie Burke decided to back up the person who filed the complaint against The Alaska Standard (Dan Fagan the proprietor of that site and Burke have rival radio programs), and attack Fagan on the radio for being a thief.

This irritated Fagan who started to bad mouth Eddie on HIS radio program.

So now two of our local conservative blow hards are engaged in a p***ing contest, that was started by a complaint from a pajama clad blogger. And here I sit without any popcorn.

Well, Fagan’s site is back up. But just on the home page alone he is hotlinking to 7 photos from other websites. Not only is he violating copyright law, he is also stealing their bandwith.

But he is a typical Republican. They steal intellectual property a lot. Remember Palin using Heart’s “Barracuda” without their permission?

And Republican Senate candidate Charles DeVore used two of Don Henley’s songs, “The Boys of Summer” and “All She Wants to Do Is Dance”, without permission.

Michigan Republican Tim Walberg used a photograph belonging to wizardkitten without permission: http://www.bloggingformichigan.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=3062

At the same time he was bragging about how he supports intellectual property rights, John McCain used the John Hall song “Still the One” and Jackson Browne’s “Running on Empty” without permission.

And the list goes on and on. Evidently Republicans seem to think that intellectual property theft IOKIYAR (is OK if you’re a Republican).

But back to Fagan. One of his photos is hotlinked from the Anchorage Daily News. I wonder of the ADN knows that Fagan is linking to a photo on their website. And I wonder of any of the others do also. Perhaps we should all start notifying anyone whose photos and bandwith Fagan is stealing. And Fagan’s web host.

Good Riddance. I was banned from Fagan’s website months ago for merely pointing out some spelling errors in one of his articles.

I had been threatened by one of his regular contributors for my liberal views, and called many names, and that was ok.

I have come so close to dropping my ADN subscription because they waste space with Fagan’s narrow view of the world. I do make a point to avoid all of his sponsors, and I tell them so when the opportunity knocks.

He seems to fancy himself as a junior version of Rush right down to the golden mic.
