Open Thread – 17 Minutes of Fame
12 10 2009A moment please…
Take off your hats. Let us have a moment of silent reflection for the passing of Advocate Jones.
Mr. or Ms. Jones had a short life, but like a shooting star, it was bright and it was awesome. And luckily someone was looking up while its appearance graced the night sky.
For a mere 17 minutes, Advocate Jones had a comment up on the front page of Team Sarah. It read, and I quote:
Getting Sarah Palin as the Rep. candidate would be the greatest thing ever! It would totally guarantee another win for OBAMA!
Alas, the moderators were also gazing at the night sky, and this brilliant star was snuffed out. But not before a screen capture was obtained.
Farewell, Advocate Jones; you who endured the rigors of signing up for Team Sarah and answering questions like “Why do you support Sarah Palin?” and “How many friends will you tell about this site?” And for passing the scrutiny of those who decide if you are a legitimate Team Sarah applicant. And for using your platform, for a brief but glorious act of defiance, not knowing if anyone would ever know… You may not be from Louisville, Kentucky as your member page says. Your first name may not even be “Advocate” for all we know… But you will be remembered with a smile.

amazon is bundling these two books together? ouch, lol.
and Gretta asks her readers if they think Scarah should be ‘annoyed’ with her editor? like why would Gretta even care? has she been chatting with Scarah? are they going to play this as more Scarah bashing?
This is what she asked:
Should Former Gov Sarah Palin be annoyed with her new book editor?
How would you feel about this (see below) if you were Former Governor Sarah Palin? Do you think she knew about it?
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-10-08/palin-editors-double-life/?cid=hp:mainpromo3
“The Daily Beast has learned that a top HarperCollins editor who worked on Sarah Palin’s new memoir helped write another book about her: sophomoric send-up Terminatrix.
Sarah Palin might have a bone to pick with Adam Bellow, the veteran HarperCollins editor who toiled on her blockbuster autobiography, which is already a bestseller in advance of its Nov. 17 release.
Last October, at the height of Palin’s memorable vice-presidential run, Bellow was the anonymous co-author of a quickie paperback satire of the then-governor of Alaska.
Terminatrix: The Sarah Palin Chronicles—which has a cover featuring a Photoshopped governor in skin-tight leather and brandishing an automatic weapon—is a sophomoric send-up of Palin and her family, featuring digitally altered images and derisive captions, and packaged in a 5-by-7-inch, 96-page trade paperback. A representative gag: Palin’s face superimposed on a painting of Joan of Arc, with the mocking commentary: “In between junior high and high school, Sarah heard God’s call to save France.”

Please keep my son and family of 6 in your thoughts and prayers. The 4yr old woke up with flu yesterday and now they all have it. They are in touch with the Dr. via phone and email, have no underlying conditions and are okay so far. We know what to watch for. It is assumed to be H1N1 (because they all got hit at once amongst other things). I know they should make it through fine but they are my babies.
All I can do is drop off things and pray. It’s hard because I always take the sick grandchild to my house and we can’t even hug anyone this time. We have been going through a lot lately which is why I haven’t been on much and now this. I’m sorry for being a mess.
Thank you in advance for good thoughts for my family. So many wonderful people here, you are appreciated and make a positive difference worldwide. My kids need that now especially.

Michigander:
Both husband and I just had H1N1. Myself, I barely ran a temp, mostly cold symptoms. Hubby was feeling much worse than I had been, so took him in and got Tamiflu. Once he started that it really wasn’t bad. 3 days start to finish.
Will keep them in my prayers, but in our experience this was not as bad as they make it out to be.

Michigander
Hoping for a speedy recovery for your family.

Certainly we will think good thoughts for your family, michigander.
Really, this flu is typically mild and people tend to get over it in the same way as any other flu. We’ve all had flus every year since we were children, right?
Secondary infections, like pneumonias, are the reason for serious illness and the very few deaths that have occurred. People who are medically fragile, young babies, pregnant women are the ones most at risk for complications.
The primary reason that our health officials are concerned is about continued mutation and combining with very lethal viruses that are not easily contracted. If the highly contagious but mild virus combines with a virus that is highly lethal, but not very contagious, the resulting virus could be a bad combination of easily contracted AND highly lethal.
So the agenda is to supress the current flu as quickly and efficiently as they can.
According to information from World Health Organizations, this is NOT the current flu.

hubby here has been coughing up his lungs for days now…just bringing wood in for the stove (about a 10-foot trip) is leaving him wretchedly tired and gasping for breath.
Don’t know if it’s regular flu or swine flu…we don’t have insurance and can’t afford a doctor’s visit (going to the doctor will cost at least a week’s income for us, more if a prescription is involved), so we’re treating the symptoms holistically

GG2B,
We are landowners.
Last time we went to the doctor/ER we had to pay $300 upfront, and then had to pay the balance within a month.
We have no free clinics within 100 miles and we don’t qualify for free clinics anyway because we are landowners.
Doesn’t matter that our income is poverty level…we own land!!!!
sigh…
October 12th, 2009 at 5:06 PM
Oh, justa… I hope one of those clinics are near enough for you! Please keep us in the loop!

Ignoring the tortured logic, misspellings, and pitiful rationalizations on Palin’s behalf, the author’s post is interesting only because it shows the process of acceptance of some of Palin’s fans that she doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hades of ever becoming a national political leader.
Hey….we can take attrition from Palin’s camp of fools any way it comes. LOL.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:08 PM
Okay Justa – Understand how they look at things and it is totally unfair. But REMEMBER………if he gets sicker and needs to go………there are plenty of us here who will hit that Paypal button in a second and help out.
OKAY????
October 12th, 2009 at 5:09 PM
Maybe they charge on a sliding scale? Does anyone know? Maybe it’d be worth the 100 mile trip if so…
October 12th, 2009 at 5:09 PM
btw…we donated $50 to freeclinics.us even though we can’t access that service
October 12th, 2009 at 5:13 PM
Justa, get him to a doctor. Tamiflu has to be started within 48 hours of onset. If you can’t find a doc you can afford, find a PA or an ANP. I will help out! Promise! My PA is smarter than most of the local docs and half the price for an office visit.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:16 PM
Thanks Empish – Justa needs to remember that we are family and will help out……isn’t that what family and friends are for?
October 12th, 2009 at 5:18 PM
not to worry about DH…he’s still coughing but nothing like he was doing two nights ago..
a combination of mountain herbal medicine and Vicks VapoRub (lol!) have made a huge impact (sadly, I’m out of coltsfoot…DH used that up…)
We’ll be fine. We’ve been dealing with most health probs on our own for almost 10 years since the health insurance company canceled without warning.
When I think about it…over the last 10 years we’ve have to pay every actual doctor/ER bills ourselves and it’s been waaaay less expensive than any insurance policy premiums/deductibles/co-pays.
I think we’ve spent about $5,000 total and out of pocket for healthcare in that time. Insurance would have cost that us more than that in one year. And we have enough in the savings account right now to cover a doctor’s visit but we wont bother until it gets really bad (and right now it looks like we’re ok)
October 12th, 2009 at 5:22 PM
What a trooper……….a stubborn one……….but a trooper nevertheless! But please (and this goes for anyone!) if there is a critical situation and help is needed, let us help if we can. And you don’t have to stranded in Greece!
October 12th, 2009 at 5:25 PM
GG, trust me, if things get bad, mudpups are who I will come to first (I’ve done it before for moral support for really hard times).
As for being stranded in Greece…bring it on!!!
I think I know how to be stranded in Greece and make it pay current and future tourist dividends for me…just because I know how to haggle…

My daughter took her son into the doctor because Thursday evening he was running a 102 temperature and it wasn’t better in the morning. She got him in by noon, had to wear mask and go out the back door..He did not have a cough but did have a cough, slight and said his legs felt like they would give out on him.Doctor did a test for strep throat and it came back negative so they did the test for the swine flu. Then Sunday mind you Sunday morning his doctor called and said he did have strep throat and explained that sometimes the quick test gives a false negative and gave a prescription for an antibiotic. Then Today He called and said he also had the swine flu and if his temp had been down for 24 hours he should be ok,Thankfully he so far at least seems to be ok.I have to keep reminding him he still has to take his meds through. One thing did surprise me the Doctor actually took the time on a Sunday to make that call.WE had been giving him Advil to keep his temperature down,There are a lot of good doctors out there if they would only be allowed to treat their patients as needed instead of how the insurance companies decree.

Hope everyone gets on the mend here. Lots of sickness going around everywhere here too. Half the town is wheezing and coughing. It is worrisome, and prayers and thoughts for you sick folks and families.
On another note, am curious, Buffalo Gal, did that filling work? Hope your tooth pain is gone…..wondered if those things really work.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:40 PM
Justa,
trying to remember everything Dr Ellenberg had to say, Vitamin C, zinc supplements, vitamin d. Support the immune system and cure the body. His show will be on tomorrow the hour before Studio 1080, takes callers, same phone number 907 569 1080. Informative and well worth listening to.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:40 PM
Michigander you and your family are certainly in my thoughts and prayers
Justa.usually at least in my state your home does not count toward eligibility nor should it for help with health care. But I guess all states don’t have the same we have badger care and badger care+50 I think it is called, which helps a lot of people who would otherwise fall thru the cracks.it is just surprising to me that other states don’t have the same type of thing.i do understand that a few do but not enough.and Like GG2B says we will all help so keep that in mind God be with you and Hubby Justa.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:42 PM
I wrote the following to Arizona Republic and it was printed over my name in Sunday’s paper.
Hate rants vs. Obama out of control
” I have become seriously concerned by the rapid escalation of ‘hate’ rants on television and radio since we elected Barack Obama as our President.
The last time I felt such anger and hatred in the air was when John F. Kennedy became our President. The onstitution does not give us the right to overthrow the government if a vocal minority can’t accept the choice made by the majority.”
October 12th, 2009 at 5:43 PM
I know I am one of he people that are at risk with the swine flu so believe me I stayed away as much as I could from my grandson, other then checking his tenp and giving him his meds.He is 13 so it really was kinds easy.
October 12th, 2009 at 5:45 PM
Oh Michigander, I hope everything goes ok- sending hugs!
Justa, I just got over the flu (regular I think). the cough has not left though. I hope mr. farmer has the reg. type and gets better quick. Vitamins for all! (and of course we all would help-say the word)
October 12th, 2009 at 5:48 PM

October 12th, 2009 at 5:52 PM
I’m very proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of caring mudpuppies that it brings tears to my eyes!
I hope everyone has a speedy recovery. Jojobo1 – what a great doctor you have!
And yes – plenty of us will help anywhere, anytime.
The CDC puts out a daily update on the swine flu and they recommended that ALL ADULTS take 2000 i.u. of Vitamin D every day from now through the winter months.
Gramiam – Very glad they published your letter – how true, now if only a few of the fringe would start to wake up and do the right thing, eh?
October 12th, 2009 at 5:59 PM
I almost missed you jojobo1- positive vibes coming your way, too! I hope all goes well. Anyone else I missed- GET WELL SOON! I have a feeling we will be saying that a lot this winter…

October 12th, 2009 at 7:41 PM
mudpups, please check out
cure zone (dot) com ……. if you have no health insurance, are sick or seek alternative healing.
I swear by silver colloidal for urine infections. Spraying into my nose has helped me get under control many an irritated sinus that was headed toward infection which would need a doc visit for antibiotic.
But for me, once a cold virus was established it (silver colloidal) or ecenachea (SP) would only lessen the days of illness, but still the danger is what virus grow into, so lessoning their attack to me seems a good thing.
Keep your immunity strong.
Wash your hands WELL with antibacterial soap, often! Clean surfaces commonly touched, virus can only live so long without a host, kill them with antibacterial cleaning often, avoid touching things or being in close breathing presence of those sick.
Stay strong mudpups. Take care of yourselves and let us know what is going on.
Personally I worry about my 2 yr old grandson contracting this.
