Open Thread – iGOP

Here’s the iGOP in all its horrible glory.

Where’s the Don Young app?  You know… when you want to bite someone like a mink, or do bad things to a spotted owl, or have a good ol’ machine gun fundraiser, or talk to a bunch of high school students about…er….alternate methods of copulation!?   Ah, well.  Maybe next time.

This is a repost of the link I had posted on yesterdays Open thread. It is about the OathKeepers. There is more info/detail on yesterdays post.
These ‘ people’ may be the ones that created that Video game that was mentioned on Gryphens blog. Are any of these people in AK as well?

October 18th, 2009 at 9:18 PM
Ya know, the other day when I was reading about people equating Scarah’s home in AK to some in the lower 48 as no biggy, I got thinking. Sheesh, what does middle class mean these days? If she is representative of mainstreet, then whoa, I thought I was middle class. What happened? The spouse and I certainly don’t make what Scarah and Toad do. Maybe I’m now a part of the poverty class?
Seriously, is the gap widening that much?
    * ** * ** * ** * **
    Yes.
    * ** * ** * ** * **
And on another rant of mine, does she have any right to say she is not an elitist? Just cuz she can talk like a red neck? yet love what big money buys? Does elitism mean to her folks that have already made it?
    ** * ** * ** * ** *
Who knows what she means? But I was thinking about the ‘elitism’ thing too yesterday as I was looking at Palingates’ arial pictures of what the Palin’s are doing with some obviously big sums of money that came from somewhere. And then thinking about how that ‘e word’ is hurled about as an insult to people like our President and First Lady, who are far more well-off than the Palin’s are (or probably ever will be).

And to make what would be an even longer post shorter, what it came down to was two things, directly related to each other.

Yes, it does make a difference HOW one gets the money. If you don’t have to ‘work’ for it, and it is just ‘given’ to you, that gives a different perspective on what money is and what it can (or should?) do.

What are kids being taught about how to position themselves to be good working earners in the future? GET AN EDUCATION! That is the other difference. Our Prez and his wife both got into and worked through a rigorous intellectual curriculum before being able to earn the amounts of money that they have amassed. Even if the right wants to rant about Affirmative Action, that can only help you get in – it doesn’t help you get out, with a degree, with whatever grades you got, with whatever experiences you had in college that contributed to that.

I think Sarah’s disdain of the word elite and elitism has nothing to do with money and everything to do with her lack of educational accomplishments. But if people are going to look down their noses at the educated, who the heck do they want as their leaders and representatives and what the heck will happen to this country if they have their way?

I am far more frightened of that possibility than I am of America becoming a Marxist, Socialist, Communist, or Fascist state. I am far more frightened of that than of anything the Taliban Terrorists might dream up.

I agree with you about sarah’s middle class values. I red that before the election that the palins were worth well over a million dollars and now?
All those republicans better keep savings those quarters to all the online charities that palin has set up for herself.

Could you image the bile these people must be feeling after contributing to sarah’s legal bill relief fund and 1. know that the amount you were told she owed was inflated and 2. see what she is building for herself after begging for your dime?
It boggles the mind that she asked others to pay her bills. She acted inappropriately, quit her position as gov. and then built herself a castle.
What is the phrase that comes to mind?
“Laughing all the way to the bank?”

The Gop commercial is wonderful. It is low key, right to the point.
Instead of communists, maybe we should be asking how many crazies we have in congress. I guess D. Young is a second tier crazy?

You’ve got to wonder if Mrs. Palin was advised to go on linkedin and if so, if they meant for her to use it as McCain had done (to field questions from the electorate). If so, she missed the boat…again. Once again, it irks me to see that someone with so little to offer is followed so closely by the media. She has been made a millionaire and for what? She gets hundreds of thousands of dollars for reciting a speech in Hong Kong that someone else wrote and she banks millions for a book that someone else has written. She is the ultimate “Reality Star” but in the real world she is a facade of a public figure that has been created by others. I hope she’s had to part with a large amount of $$$s to pay her writers–maybe that’s why she’s looking for a job now. And I hope that her poll numbers continue to fall and she simply goes the way of others of her ilk.

I can’t help but wonder if the 7 mill book deal is way off. Usually you’d get an advance, then x % of net sales totals. If she got, say $1 mill advance (spent now on new castle) and now her book is going for $8.99 or less, that other 6 million might never find its way into her pocket. I am sure the 100k she made on her economics speach required, what do you think, at least 75k in new clothes, oh, yeah, and the new teeth…

Palin needs a job, she’s broke. Bwaaaaaaaaaaa!

    * ** * ** * ** * ** *

Yes, that’s what I think is going on. I think a large portion of that book money has either been spent or has already been allocated to other areas.

But in any case, I think the Palin’s see that the book money is not going to sustain them very long and they need to look at the long term … and I just know that Todd does NOT want to go back to ‘real work’ (BP). He just wants to fish and hunt and race his little snowmachines (and hey, who wouldn’t?).

But his wife has no practical, marketable skills. What can she do? She looks pretty. She has stage presence. She takes a good picture and looks good on TV. She delivers a speech reasonably well under certain conditions. Did I miss anything? The market for that is as fickle and changing as can be. She may be ‘hot’ right now, but it will not (thankfully!) last.

I shudder to think that a million or more of the book money may be being reserved as seed money for a 2012 Presidential campaign self-contribution. In my opinion. the Palin’s would be far, far better off putting it into some good mutual funds, or set up tax-deferred trusts for their kids to use to go to college, or … there are so many great ideas of what they could do with that money.

That’s really what it’s all about – it’s not how much you make but what you choose to spend it on that shows what kind of character you have.

Palin is emblematic of all that is wrong with this country: disdain for education and accomplishment, strive to be famous for being famous, contribute NOTHING, make a fast buck so you can have “things” that give the appearance of achievement. And I am certain it sticks in her craw that the Obama’s are the polar opposite of her; they do reflect what has made this country great and they have earned all of what they have. No wonder she can’t stand them. Personally, I don’t care if $P goes on to make a bazillion dollars, as long as she stays out of politics. I am heartened by the fact that when it came down to money or power, she chose money. Make all you can, Crazy Lady, it’ll never fill you up inside.

@terpsichore — from your frst comment (really well thought out, by the way) it drives me nuts when the Repubs say Obama got into Harvard because of Affirmative Action– or anywhere else, for that matter, since we know for a fact that Harvard/Yale/etc deal in the good old boys club, and certain kids get in because of who their daddies are, not their grades (your ex of Bush was perfect).

The right are so prejudiced inherently, that they can’t see what is so clear to most of us.

Affirmative Action was put into place to give kids who worked hard a chance at a break that a kid from the “right” family had.

I feel as if someone needs to remind the Repubs about that pesky Revolutionary war and the supposed consequences thereof. We didn’t want royalty here. We wanted opportunity for all. Equal opportunity.

I don’t think that things are working out too well for Sarah. I recall that she turned down speaking at some important GOP event because of those “future travel plans and the associated book promotion.” Well, what happened to all of those plans and promotions? How does an author worth millions in advance payments do a book signing for a book that is already in the sales bin?

Speeches? I’m speechless (LOL) that after Sarah blew off the few opportunities that she had, and did not do a whopper of a job in Hong Kong, surprise of surprises that there aren’t any more offers. There really is a difference between having a ghost written Face Book post and calling a press conference to announce a new policy statement (and take questions from the press).

There is a kind of sadness involved in running for vice president just last year, and this year looking for lipstick to endorse– or looking for work on the internet. Pity that she gave up that nice job she had just a few months ago. It did allow for travel, making speeches and staying in the public eye. But the problem was that the mansion in Juneau was just a temporary palace, and Sarah wanted a permanent one.

LOL, that’s what I mean, maybe the sum quoted in the news was a figure assuming for 1.5 million book sales (full priced copies)? Also -does the rush to publish suggest that the publisher thinks that she has a very short shelf-life (e.g. before she disappears off the public radar screen)?

I sure think that’s what’s happening. She thought she’d be giving speach after speach to adoring crowds. More adoring crowds in NJ and Virginia. Who wouldn’t want Sarah, thought she? She’d quit her job and be embraced by all… they’d wait for her with baited breath.

GOP Brand Has Declined Since Obama Took Office, According To New Polling Data

Despite spending the last 9 months battering the president’s agenda, the Republican Party has neither gained any traction with voters nor has it appreciably damaged the Democratic brand.
A Democratic source noted, on Monday morning, that the aggregate polling data for how voters list their party affiliations has remained remarkably steady since the Obama administration took office. If anything, the GOP’s appeal has worsened.

In late January, a USA Today/Gallup poll recorded 27 percent of respondents saying they identified with the Republican Party, 36 percent with Democrats and 25 percent as unaffiliated or independent. Now in mid-October, the average data compiled from dozens of surveys over more than a year shows Republican ID at 22.5 percent, Democratic ID at 33.7 percent and Independent ID at 35 percent.

Not much of a deal, I get your crappy magazine and her crappy book. I say, thanks but no thanks.

Every single one of us reading Mudflats saw this as a distinct possibility the minute a book deal was rumored. So did lots of other people who were paying attention and watching/listening to and reading more than just rightwing TV, radio, internet sites and other print materials. Furthermore, it was cemented when she quit as Gov. Bad, bad move on her part, if she wanted to have any sort of viable future in front of the public. Anyone involved in a financial decision regarding this book should have seen this coming, and played it safe. In my opinion.

So Sarah shall reap what she sows, but I betcha when she gets asked about the disappointing book sale numbers, she’ll a) spin them as actually being good, and/or b) blame someone or something else other than her sweet little old self.

I wait for the day she ever, ever admits publicly she made a mistake and takes responsibility for anything (that is not a success of course. Those she’ll take credit for, no prob.)

I think the Vegas bookies are taking odds on how long that will be … if ever.

Rohrabacher: House GOP leadership ‘constantly trying to play a political game’

“Unfortunately, I see a lot of Republicans simply involved in political games,” Rohrabacher said in an interview with conservative bloggers at this past weekend’s Western Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), in videos posted by the conservative blog Hot Air.

“The Republican leadership in the House right now is constantly trying to play a political game every day to try and get a headline, and I don’t think that’s going to take us anywhere,” he added.

“The American people rightfully think the Republicans are just complaining, because we had power — we had both houses of Congress and we had the presidency,” Rohrabacher explained. “What did we do with it? All of these changes that we could make to have improved our healthcare system we didn’t do during the Bush years when we had both houses in Congress.”

He described a battle within the Republican party as being between “regular Americans” and powerful business interests, as well.

“There is a rift between some very powerful forces within the Republican Party, who are very wealthy interests and powerful in the economic arena and business community and what’s going on with regular Americans,” Rohrabacher said. “And either we side with regular Americans — the patriots — or we won’t win.”

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will speak in a Milwaukee suburb next month as part of a program presented by Wisconsin Right to Life.

It’s been “one of those” days ever since 10 am. Began with the flinging a pan full of boiling pasta (oven mitt had a hole in it ) and covering the kitchen from one end to the other. Morning progressed to a squirrel in the house. (and not in the attic. nope… in the kitchen. I had to assume it was an Italian squirrel and was there for the noodles) Moved on to discovering I have a woodpecker that doesn’t care for the shape of my porch and has been diligently doing renovations. It has pecked the bejeebers out it and was bold enough to actually squawk and square off with me when I tried to shoo him this afternoon. The day THEN moved on to TWO squirrels in the house and sending evil kitty into spitting fits. Squirrels and cat were chasing madly through the kitchen and eventually out the back door. Then the order from the market arrived and was missing all the ingredients I needed for dinner. And, lastly … I lost Glenn Beck as a follower on my Stand4OurNation twitter account. He must have FINALLY realized that my linked website is ANTI Palin. ha!

And, on that Beck note – Jim lehrer had a table discussion about Fox, Beck and the White House tonight. Good! Worth catching just for the sake of it.

These speakers assist the College with honoring others who through their own good citizenship, character, and success serve as role models.

In 1999, Dr. and Mrs. Leonard B. Gittinger endowed the Community Convocation Services, which enabled speakers such as Franklin Graham, Colin Powell, James Baker, Benjamin Netanyahu, Mike Krzyzewski, and Tom Brokaw to share their life experiences with the College of the Ozarks family and friends. Many of the speakers are from humble beginnings and inspire College of the Ozarks students to pursue high goals. The generosity of the Gittingers has enabled thousands of students to attend these special events over the years.”

    New Course Offering: American Ideals
    of Character and Civic Engagement

Character Education Center director Sue Head and her husband
Hayden, a faculty member at College of the Ozarks, have developed
a new course for the liberal arts curriculum entitled American Ideals
of Character and Civic Engagement scheduled for the fall semester.

This course will examine American ideals of character and the
ways in which those ideals are reflected in the principles and ideals
of College of the Ozarks; students will also examine the structure
of government at the national, state, and local levels and be
introduced to effective models of civic engagement. To this end, students
will have the opportunity to participate in catalyst groups,
    established groups of passionate community
    members in the Branson area;
    these groups develop special programs
that typically focus on the poor and the
    disenfranchised. This unique course,
whose enrollment for fall is full, will
reinforce the College’s vision for developing
    students of Christ-like character
who are committed to service and
    community.

This is rather unrelated to anything but I was following up on Buffalogals ‘ Palin Truth Watch ‘ tweets and was looking up something on Google. The name directed me to some old YouTube clips with Meg-a-Mouth Stapletongue.

Normally we only know Meg from some written Press Release…. Not a live person. These are clips of Meg having a verbal confrontation with Les Gara on the street after the Troopergate hearings. This first clip is about 6 minutes posted by ” AKTruthSquad”. Although there is nothing startlingly new in the clip…. this was at a time before I started following the storyline and the characters involved. I had never seen this. She deflects questions or changes the subject and is quite strong in Her defense of Sarah. ( this is clip 1 of 2 )

She also likes to hold up a flat hand to deflect what Gara is saying, almost like a cross up against evil. I do not believe it when she says they simply had a difference of policy, what that translates into is Walt didn’t kiss Scarah’s butt and bow down to her, so therefore she had every right to fire his a*s and dump him, for no real good reason, except he didn’t kiss her rear.
