Going Rogue vs. Going Rouge

21 10 2009

I bet you all thought there was nothing, I mean NOTHING that could get you to your local bookseller on November 17.  That’s the day that Sarah Palin’s memoir Going Rogue hits the shelves, and Palin fans will overwhelm your local Barnes & Noble and Borders to snap up the 400-page tome.  Well, grab your Red Bull…or should I say “Rouge Bull” and jump into the fray.

No, I’m not asking you to buy a copy of Sarah Palin’s book.  You already know that I’m going to take one for the team and do that so you don’t have to.  But there’s a book coming out on the very same day that might hold more appeal.

To anticipate your next question, no this is not a joke, or some fabulous Photoshop creation by the Mudflats Art Department (flyinureye).  It is in fact the real cover and the real title of a real book that will be in bookstores on November 17, also too.

Going Rouge is compiled by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, two top editors of the left-leaning weekly The Nation, and includes essays by Nation regulars like Katrina vanden Heuvel, Naomi Klein, and Katha Pollitt. It’s the first release from OR Books, a fledgling outfit founded earlier this year by publishing veterans John Oakes and Colin Robinson that “embraces progressive change in politics, culture and the way we do business,” according to its website.

But wait, there’s more!  In addition to those listed above, Mudflatters will be able to enjoy essays by Max Blumenthal, Shannyn Moore, and yes,…. yours truly!  I was quite honored to be asked to write a piece for the book.

And no worries about the little ones feeling left out of the festivities.  On that very same day you can pick up a copy of a kid’s version of Going Rouge!

The sample pages on the book’s promotional website fall clearly into the realm of political satire, including a coloring page with lipsticks and pigs (naturally) and a caricature of Palin in fishing overalls and possible “fishing gear”: a gun, a saw, an ax, and a bomb.

So, get ready for some combat shopping on November 17!  Whichever side of the political spectrum you inhabit, there’s something in bookstores for you!

The sillies over at the team site are going nuts with this and the biggest concern is that they will buy the wrong book! They are being tricked by these eveeeeel people who are making fun of thier dear Sarah. One commenter actually had the nerve to say if they were stupid enough to buy the wrong book then they deserve it. I predict that commenter will be thrown off TS in 1….2……3 POOF!

“Going Rouge: An American Nightmare”…..so appropriate.

I won’t spend a dime on Palin’s trumped-up twaddle but I will definitely buy this book.

I must say…the cover of the Rouge book looks much classier than the one on the Rogue book.

Truly, side by side, there is NO comparison; the Rouge is well thought out and aesthetically pleasing, the Rogue is just thrown together and dumpy. I have no doubt the contents of each will be an accurate reflection of their respective covers. beth.

(I bet her Sarahness is somewhere pitching a hissy-fit that the Rouge’s photo DOESN”T look like something the cat just dragged in. Out of the rain; old and scraggly and bedraggled. And not very inspiring. And rather, all things considered, downright ugly. Also, too.

Geeze, Louise ~ what in the world was she thinking in OKing that photo for her book? Of all the zillions of pics she’s had taken of her, could she have possibly found one more frumpy and cheap-looking? If she were even a semi-intelligent lass, she’d have realized how ‘rode hard and put up wet’ she comes off in the Rogue pic… )

Fabulous and you go, AKM!! Love it and must get my hands on a copy of Going Rouge. Must be wearing some rouge à levres pitbull style while I’m reading it, too. But I am so curious about what she could possibly have to say in her 400 page tome! What kind of story did she weave?

Fox news ( Brett Bair )is on YouTube warning people to not be confused
with this 2nd book which is out there.

I guess reading the cover…. would be too difficult for some. It is a book though. You are supposed to read it… not just look at the ‘ purty pictures’.

    Polly Says:

Yes, AKM is a brave soul for reading the tome. My “thing” is, I don’t think I would have the stomach to touch anything with Palin’s picture on it.

I truly sympathize with the proprietor of this fine web site for volunteering to read Sarah Palin’s “book.” If I lived closer to the Great State of Alaska, I would gladly purchase a bottle of 18-year-old Scotch to dull the pain, but instead, I will sip said Scotch while reading your review.

“Going Rouge” is going to be a significant stocking stuffer for my friends. The real book? Eh, not so much. I’ll wait for the movie, lol.

The “Going Rouge” is absolutely the funniest take off we could have hoped for.
Sarah must be climbing the walls, calling lawyers from here to Hong Kong to find one that can “shut that damn thing down, sue their asses and take everything they own”….or else, what?
    “but…but…they used my picture…”.
Gee Sarah, who knew that entering the public domain would open you up to all kinds of unflattering coverage? tsk tsk
