And yet another “Palin” book hits the shelves on the SAME DAY as the she-devil’s book…from the editors at The Nation Magazine, Richard Kim and Betsy Reed.
Winky backing the “non-republican” candidate is going to have some serious repercussions. This is a blatant attempt at dividing the republican party. This is not something the “party of no” can afford at this time. The party is in such disarray that this move could be the proverbial “nail in the coffin.” It will be interesting to see what unfolds here. The smart move on the part of the republicans would be to discredit and take her down ASAP, they have lots of time to pick up the pieces between now and 2012. Of course they haven’t been demonstrating any well thought out rational moves for awhile now. I’ve been reading about this particular race and this could very well guarantee a democratic victory after years of a republican strong hold.
The Quitter endorsed a conservative from my district in upstate NY. Who is she to endorse anyone? Why would anyone want her endorsement in the first place!
The only consolation is that she is splitting the votes between a republican and the conservative leaving room for the democrat to win. Also, our local tv website wtvh 9 (sorry not good with links) is 100% anti Palin and anyone that she would endorse.
I love The Nation (they are publishing the “alternative” Palin book). I was visiting this morning and read the BEST promo for subscribing to their magazine. It says:
We are like Fox news.
Only smart.
And not crazy.
And we don’t lie.
I am hoping that Miss Wasilla wants to run on a third party. That is why she didn’t go to the Rep. Womens’ event and the dinner in Iowa that Pawlenty did instead.
She is distancing herself from the GOP so she can be QUEEN of the Conservative Party, or whatever, and not have to endure a primary.
I say hope, because she will split the GOP and then Obama’s reelection is assured.
Anyone have the link to the Democrat in the NY race?….I’m feeling generous this morning. If contributions are being split three ways, it could benefit the Democrat? Just saying.
lettersfromeurope : Mmmhh, that picture makes me think that Alaskans think like Italians. Authority is a matter of interpretation, always.
That reminds me of the stoplights in Italy. In their minds they are not just red but many degrees of red. Pedestrian red, negotiable red, not quite red, almost red, relative red — these are personal choice reds. Then there is the bureaucratic red or is someone looking? Finally there is the full red otherwise known as a dangerous intersection with heavy traffic red.
In Italy you can park ANYWHERE as long as you leave your flashers on!
Boy, I’m all for the Half-Term Half-Wit startin’ up a new party! Let’s peel off all the true delusional wingnuts and get them into her party, and then Obama’s “education camps” (you know, the ones that patriotic Michele Bachmann keeps on warning us about?) can illegally abduct them all and force them to read the Koran daily, pray to Mecca or somethin’. Oh, and then we can ship them off to “Mao’s China” and make them do volunteer service, like that nice guy Glenn Beck has warned about. Geesh.
I think many in the GOP would be happy if Palin started a new party. It would give the GOP an opportunity to split from the religious right and all of the crazies who have taken over the party.
If she does plan on this third party, she will be the next Ralph Nader… she will only divide and not conquer. Then, like most off-party candidates, she won’t be invited to any of the dances (debates) and no doubt the cry of ‘foul’ will be heard far and wide. The ‘scourned woman’ in all of this will end up being the RepubliCANT party, and they will show no mercy towards Saracuda… and we won’t be able to look away from the ensuing trainwreck. I read the quick article at HP before I came here to the flats and posted a comment asking about how to donate to Bill Owens’ campaign. That is one way we, the collective, can help people running for political office anywhere accross this great country that show some sense of reason! I’ve got a couple of bucks in loose change layin’ around here somewhere. Do they take pennies?
#16 Trisha, you’re probably right, the “pure” republicans don’t want to be associated with the wingnuts anymore. The problem for them is numbers, even as a cohesive group they lack the numbers, if it splits they don’t have much hope. There also seems to more than two distinct parts of the party, there are wingnuts, true conservatives, reagan repubs and others. I really think they are imploding and there isn’t a leader strong enough to hold them together. I think they’ll go the way of the whigs.
I’m really interested in how the GOP handle both Palin and Bachmann. Do they let them do this and continue to let Beck, Limbaugh and such control the GOP or does the GOP finally grow a pair?
If anyone else is interested in the congressional race here in NY we could use your help. This race is being watched around the country as some first signs of whether support for Obama failing or, God Forbid, that is Palin making a comeback as a relevent political figure.
I really don’t want to wake up to headline news the day after the election about how this conservative candidate owes Palin for getting him elected. I’d much rather read about how the conservative/republican party is toast.
This district has been red for a long time. It would be great to turn it blue.
“We are like Fox news.
Only smart.
And not crazy.
And we don’t lie.”
Love it!
Palin, leader of the ‘conservative’ crazies. Sounds about right. As far as not being invited to debates, that’ll work for her, too, no silly gotcha questions like “How do you spell Sarah?”
Oh dear – Palin as usual, jumps on the wrong bandwagon by endorsing the teabagger candidate in NY’s 23rd.
Funnily enough – the Republican candidate is a woman – what was all that about a “special place in hell” for “women who don’t help other women”??? Oh dear. Sarah, I hope your hair and make up are fire-proof…..
Silly Sarah may have just handed the win to the Democratic candidate in NY =) Well done – and I hope she continues to forget that she is Ballot Box Poison to anyone she endorses =)
Don’t want to be the typo police (but I will), but shouldn’t that be “Spirit” and not “sprit”?
Funny though! I saw a meter maid once that was parked in a parking space that had an expired meter. When I pointed out the irony to her (I just thought it was amusing, I wasn’t being critical) she got very defensive and was very seriously telling me that the law allows it. Some people have no sense of humor…
I usually put the open thread up at about 2am, so I need all the typo police I can get! Just don’t give me a ticket… AKM
Hmmm, this whole third party idea is interesting. At first the thought of Crazy Lady heading up any political movement scares the beejezus out of me. But it actually might be good for the country; siphon the loony tunes off and let the Republican party rebuild itself with moderates. Has this been her plan all along, to put herself in a position to lead a new party? Then I come to my senses: that would have taken planning, forethought, and intellectual reasoning. And that just is not our Sarah! Plus we know she has the attention span of a four year old on a sugar high, she’d lose interest in her new party before the first interview on Meet the Press. And not nearly enough $$$ to keep expanding the compound, also too.
Buffalogal@11 — I just love Alan Grayson he is so smart and gutsy. I wish I could trade my Rep Lynn Jenkins for him or Anthony Weiner. I would also like to trade either Roberts or Brownback for Al Franken. Alas, Kansas is still way way Red.
What ever happened to the slogan on a takeout paper coffee cup saying something about there being a special place in H*ll for women who don’t support other women– or at least Sarah managed to misquote the original saying at the time. So, where’s Sarah’s support the the female Republican candidate now?? Someone needs another coffee cup or a magnet to quote.
BahstinBoyo aka Wrangler Tractor Palin: NO, she wants to be excluded from debates, that is the beauty of being crowned Queen of the Conservative Party; no primary, no pesky debates, no real interviews….just stock speeches and winking!!
So is this rogue endorsement by SP a revenge tactic on the republican party? Have they slighted her and this is her way of getting back? She claims she wants to be bi-partisan, but those canceled appearances at the repub conferences this past year makes one wonder just what prompts her motives.
Don Young Part Of FBI Investigation On Bribery Charges
McClatchy :
An Alaska businessman admitted to giving gifts to Republican Rep. Don Young, the state’s long-serving sole congressman, in a confession made public this week as part of an ongoing federal investigation into political corruption in the state.
The confession, signed in 2007 by Bill Allen, the former chief of Veco, an Alaska oil services company, was released as part of Allen’s upcoming sentencing on charges that he bribed state lawmakers.
#31 mae, she is also endorsing good hair perry instead of Kay Bailey Hutchison
in Texas. But you know she has never been known to practice what she preaches. Guess she kind of liked it when perry manhandled her at the governors’ meeting. It’s like everything she stands for. Other women should support her because she’s a woman, but she doesn’t support other women. Women should carry out a pregnancy no matter what, but she can contemplate her choices. The media should quit makin things up but she lies about most everything. The list goes on and on, she’s just a hypocrite.
Wow this confession was made in 2007 and they are just investigating it now! So it could be years and years before all of Palin’s unethical behavior comes to light.
This latest move on Sarah’s part, albeit very “Palinistic,” seems perfectly logical to me, although I am sure that she did not arrive at this conclusion through logic. As a third party candidate supported by high moneyed wackos, she gets a longer free ride in the limelight, gets to spend incredible amounts of OPM, and dines on the adulation of the uninformed. Since she is doomed to failure, she doesn’t have to worry about actually doing anything!
p.s. In the drug-induced scenario in which she would win, she would undoubtedly move the seat of government to Wasilla to the biggest trailer park compound in the world in amongst the gravel pits. Willow will have to wait – again!. Sarah, of course, will work from home and charge per diem.
p.p.s. In the nightmarish occurrence that this would be, I will be posting, guerilla-style from Costa Rica or Panama along with futurexpat? who will be re-named currentexpat! as we flee.
She may have signed her own political death warrant (with the repub party) by endorsing the independent candidate. There is money and power behind her (Murdoch). With the swirling rumors of the emergence of a third political party that would wrap themselves in religion, the flag and the whole right-wing nutbags (conspiracy theories and all) I have a nagging suspicion that something big is going to emerge prior to the next Presidential election.
Geraldine… I’ve had that same suspicion since Rupert got involved. He is still hell-bent on taking over the world someday, and what better tool than her ‘ness? Even if they do succeed in organizing the lunatic fringe into a seperate party (call them the ‘Silly Party’ in honour of Monty Python… I can see her ‘ness in Michael Palin’s clown suit on the balcony) that doesn’t mean they will win anything. Ruppies gettin’ long in the tooth, not much time left to acquire all the news media in the world… and sensible people of any affiliation would see right through them. I see a joint effort by both major parties to crush any effort on her part, or anyone she backs!
This is what caught my eye in the following article… particularly the last sentence……….given all of this stew of corruption, how IS it that the justice department has not looked into Palin?
How much would it take for them to demand a copy of the Palin’s agreement from Arctic Cat and compare it to her disclosures?
What would it take for them to look into the legitimacy of the Alaska Fund Trust?
I know that they are busier than a hooker on a troop train (sry reminds me of Palin) with all the corrupt politicians in AK…………..but surely they could find time for some of her shenanigans.
After all she WAS the highest ranking politician in the state……..
FBI looks at bribery allegations against Alaska Rep. Young:
Young, who was obligated in 2006 to report gifts with a value of more than $335, didn’t report receiving any gifts on the personal financial disclosure form he filed with the House of Representatives for that year. From 1995 until last year, Young reported no gifts on his disclosure forms. In 2008, however, he reported receiving as gifts $77,000 in donations to his legal expense fund.
It is those same forms and his lack of disclosure on them that led the Justice Department to indict Stevens on corruption charges.
A new study by Representative Anthony Weiner (D – Queens & Brooklyn), member of the Health Subcommittee and Co-Chair of the Caucus on the Middle Class, revealed that 151 members of the House and Senate currently receive government-funded, government-administered single-payer health care – Medicare.
55 of them – from the GOP – think it’s not a good solution for the rest of the country to have such an option.
The list is here: http://wp.me/pbSfp-bb along with directions on how to add a widget from Senate Democrats to your blog or website that COUNTS how many Americans are uninsured.
I hope the Quitter Queen, Paranoid Beck, Put-upon Limbaugh, Bonkers Bachmann, and the rest of their merry band of looneys form the Lower 48 AIP Party- funded by Faux News and Murdock- and let the Republicans become a legitimate party with ideas and proposals.
I look forward to seeing them act like lemmings and rush headlong over a cliff.
This particular thread..has been excep. fun to read..as there are..seemingly..(I did not actually ..count) an extremely high number of ‘cross postings and comments between and amongst..Mudflatters. Why is that of note? Really not sure but ..dialogue..I think..is pure gold. As ya all were.
Rush just did a blurb on the Sarah Palin backing the not-Republican NY candidate (Mr. Terps is listening to him while he grills us chicken wings – he make The Best wings!) Rush didn’t say much about it and certainly never expressed his opinion about whether he thought it was a good idea or not, but just used it to rah-rah “the Conservatives are making a comeback, America’s fed up with …. ” whatever it is we are supposedly fed up with. (Hubby, BTW, just listens to shake his head and laugh. Me, it just makes me angry).
I had been ready to bet real money Sarah Palin was NOT going to make a run for the presidency in 2012, now I’m not so sure she won’t, on a third party. If so, I see her soundly losing. She just doesn’t get it – not enough people think like her (thank God) for her to win a general election. We are not UnAmerican just because we disagree with her opinions. So if she wants to take the radical right teabagging loons out of the current Reoublican party and start a new one, heck, I might even consider rejoining the Republican party! Get those nuts out of the way and let real intelligent, accomplished Republicans duke it out (in words) with real intelligent accomplished Democrats and Independents, and we might actually be able to get something done!
I listen and consider what people like Colin Powell and Kay Bailey Hutchison have to say. Heck, even Charlie Crist has been IMO a quite moderate governor, and, I think, would make an effective, hard-working senator for our state (Do not ask me about Marco Rubio. He is Jeb Bush en espanol.)
I’ll still vote for a Democratic candidate (we have a couple good choices running), but it would not be disastrous if Crist won … once again, in my opinion.
In his response to Chris Mathews on Cheney trashing President Obama for ‘dithering’, Grayson’s visual of Cheney is he has blood dripping from his teeth, lol, Count Cheney, the monster man. He also says Dick is just angry because the President doesn’t shoot old men in the face, lol. wow, he is a brave guy. Then he asks if when Cheney was done speaking at this black tie deal, if he turned into a bat and fly away, lol. I love this guy!
Why Sarah Palin won’t be running in 2012….as Rupert Murdoch’s plan unfolds.
Roger Ailes to run for POTUS:
Friends and associates are encouraging Fox News chief Roger Ailes to jump into the political arena for real by running for president in 2012, top sources tell POLITICO.
“Ailes knows how to frame an issue better than anybody, and that’s what we need now,” says one Ailes friend who is encouraging the Fox founder, chairman and CEO to seek the Republican nomination to run against President Barack Obama.
Ailes, 69, has an aggessive, winning personality that made Fox News a huge success — and a huge target for liberal critics.
Frank Luntz, the well-known Republican pollster, said Ailes could be a force if he makes the run.
“I have known Roger Ailes for 29 years,” says Luntz. “No one knows how to win better than Roger.”
Talk of an Ailes run, which informed sources said is based on more than mere speculation, could escalate the White House war with Fox war in wildly unpredictable – and fun – ways.
It was Ailes who recently held a private meeting with top White House adviser David Axelrod to ease tensions. The meeting was not a success.
Shortly after, the White House stepped up its attack on Fox – and Fox has proudly fired back.
Fox executives are relishing the public spat – so much so that virtually every on-air personality talks about it, and Sean Hannity has made it a central part of his show’s promo.
The biggest reason: ratings at Fox are through the roof.
From his official bio: “Roger Ailes has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of FOX News Channel since 1996, Chairman of Fox Television Stations and Twentieth Television since 2005 and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of FOX Business Network since 2007. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Ailes was President of CNBC from 1993 to 1996 and served as President of America’s Talking, an information talk channel that later became MSNBC.”
As a legendary Republican political consultant in an earlier career, Ailes helped engineer victories for Ronald Reagan in 1984 and George H.W. Bush in 1988.
I came across this comment today in some blog, and I thought it was hilarious. It is a liberal site..but if anyone finds it offensive, delete it if necessary. It was in response to SP’s chateau being built.
*Sarah, I am old and I don’t have much money for food and heat this winter. Could you please give me my 5 dollars back you big gaping cow hole, chiseling bag of dirt.
THIS A FYI POST.
I am retired from the CPD and I have many friends that are retired from CPD also.
One of my dear friends (female officer) informed me that she did not qualify for the entire MEDICARE PACKAGE (A&B) because she did not qualify for SOCIAL SECURITY.
In other words….she did not work long enough under SS to get her 40 UNITS in. The SS Administration only goes back so far to give credit towards the 40 units and you only earn 4 units per year.
She is now 78 and of course is no longer able to work. But as a result of NOT qualifying for SS, she has to pay much more than I do for extra insurance because she did not qualify for part of MEDICARE….and of course SHE comes with many, many pre-existing conditions. She gets a nice retirement check from Police & Fire….but she gets bills for her health care (after her insurance pays what they want to pay) that are OFF THE HOOK!
She had a stroke on 10-9-09 and has been hospitalized every since, undergoing therapy many hours a day to try to get her mobility back to some degree. I don’t know how she will come out of all of this…but I am hopeful.
The reason I am posting this is to tell those of you who are employed by the State, City, Federal or any entity who has its own retirement fund like PERS and PFRF (Police &Fire), you are going to have to qualify for SS in order to get the WHOLE MEDICARE package.
I worked for 10 years after retiring from the Police Department to get my 40 units in. I did it just to get a little extra money…..I did not know the real hook up between complete Medicare coverage (A&B) and SS…and the extra financial burden on you if you don’t qualify for SS. I had worked other jobs when I was younger, but those years did not help me and the jobs I had prior to the CPD were STATE and FEDERAL and they did NOT pay into SS. Now to be clear….my SS check (the part that I get) is sooo small I can only get a HAPPY MEAL from McDONALDS with that money…but rest does pay for my MEDICARE A&B and THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT!
I do not know why this information is not out there for everyone…..but I am hoping that you will check with SS and pass this information on.
I don’t know how my friend will fair…I can only hope for the best…..that she does not lose her home and does not have to file bankrupcy. But we just don’t know……..
I so love Alan Grayson that after I watched the clip, I called his office. Imagine my surprise when a real live human answered. We talked for several minutes, very pleasant young man. I let him know that I wasn’t from Florida, but Mr. Grayson is my new hero anyway.
Have you guys read anything about him? I went to grayson.house.gov & read his bio, very interestig. He is one smart man & I think they know that they are no match.
The right words in the right order can really paint a picture.
I just noticed this little name for $arah over at Brees. Sarah has so many but this seems to fit…. and it has such a nice ‘ ring ‘ to it and links her to the past.
” The Rogue to Nowhere ” ( posted by anonymous there) I like this one
And this one I think this was from the FireDoglake story this morning in comments about her endorsing Hoffman.
“Like all shooting stars, Mrs. Palin will eventually burn out and fall to earth having no more impact on anything really important.”

Some of us were talking about the meteor showers in chat the other night…. so his line struck me as very poignant and a nice analogy.

I like this too and it was working beautifully………..until Oprah tried to catch a falling star to boost her ratings!
I have to admit to confusion about recent news regarding Sarah’s endorsement of the “Conservative Party” candidate. There is indeed a Conservative Party in England and in Canada, but I didn’t see it on the U.S. ballot in November 2008, nor any ballot initiatives setting up for 2012.
Mrs. Palin really does fancy herself as Margaret Thatcher, doesn’t she? (Except not the Oxford chemistry degree part). There’s something deeply unsettling about this for me.
But why stop there? Let’s just go for broke and characterize her as the ‘new’ Queen Elizabeth II. Track is exactly like Prince William, right? (Except not the Eaton/Exeter part.) Why not – America has become Harry Potter land.

statesmanship to know the right time and the manner

Anyway, I decided to do a little civic homework and figure out just what our parties are.
These political parties are currently recognized in Alaska:
Alaska Democratic Party
Alaska Libertarian Party
Alaska Republican Party
Alaskan Independence Party
Political groups seeking recognized status in Alaska:
Green Party of Alaska
Republican Moderate Party, Inc.
Veterans Party of Alaska
There are currently no Limited Political Parties in Alaska for the Presidential Election in 2008.
Political programs are recognized as a political party if their candidate received three percent of the total votes cast for United States Senator or if they have registered voters in the state equal in number to at least three percent of the total votes cast for United States Senator (9,532 until the 2010 General Election). (from Division of Elections.)
So, I don’t quite get this. The Conservative Party of New York is a regional party. Very powerful, to be sure. But a quick review of Congress shows no “Conservative Party” members, just Republican and Democrat.
There are currently no Independents serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. Bernard Sanders (I-VT) and Joseph I. Lieberman (I-CT) are currently serving in the U.S. Senate.
Where I am truly ignorant, is how it’s possible to be registered in one party and serve office or vote in another. I thought we had to choose.
Wikipedia lists an “American Conservative Party”. This sounds more like Sarah:
Q: You don’t seem like most ‘conservatives’ I know. Why not?
A: Are the ‘conservatives’ you know the ones you see on TV, or in Congress, or even, in the White House? Yea, we are not like them, because they’re creations of the media, their own ambition, and the insular nature of our political culture today. We’re ordinary people from the “middle half” of the country. Neither rich, nor poor, just trying to make a living, raise kids, and pay taxes.
Q: So who are you running for president in 2012?
A: Actually, we don’t plan to run anyone for president in 2012. Probably not even in 2016. Instead we’re going to concentrate on the local offices, and start capturing city councils and school boards. The rot runs deep, and we need to build deep roots to push back against the waste and governmental meddling. The Democratic and Republican parties will have to understand that they can’t just defeat us in a single election cycle and expect us to go home, like some earlier third-party attempts. From there, we’ll move up the ladder to state offices. Capturing a few Attorney General offices might do wonders to end voter fraud. Then we’ll go after the federal offices. Jumping into the deep end of the pool is for billionaires and astroturf organizations. We’re as grassroots as it gets.
I am not sure why your friend does not qualify for Medicare. In Colorado, those of us (retired teachers) who get PERA also qualify for Medicare when age is reached. I’m not there yet, but I have numerous friends who have/are on Medicare. We don’t get Social Security, of course- but the PERA years correspond to SS when applying for Medicare. I was able to convert my SS years to PERA- expensive, but now it is worth it. They should combine her SS and PFRF to total 40…
This Friday, I am waiting for an Alaskan politician with the courage to petition the Regulatory Commission of Alaska to begin regulating the retail price of gasoline and diesel, using cost-based pricing.
You know, Scarah wrote her endorsement of Hoffman on facebook, she asked her facebook followers to send money to support his campaign, b*tch.
So, the stupid cult groupies obey. CNN Political Ticker is reporting he’s raised $116,000 in less than 24 hrs. and praising Scarah for the reason. But the campaign spokesperson says it’s to the credit of all the ‘conservative activists’ that have come on board to back Hoffman. Not exactly wonderful polititians to be palling around with. I suppose now Fake News will spin support his way. Folks this could turn bad.
My concern is the following comment from another CNN article, I think it’s typical of Scarah types. They could drive out the moderate Repubs in elections. It may be a plan of Murdoch, if he can’t get control of our country through the Republican party, he’ll do it through growing another party to challenge the Democrats, the Repubs are a failed vanishing party now.
below is the comment: ( for the record, I don’t think for one moment that an independent conservative would ever vote for a democrat. It just sounds balanced, lol. It sounds just like something a Scarah groupie would say. And I do believe Scarah and her ilk have an independent party in mind.)
“Conservatives won’t back RINOs anymore. If a RINO can win in the primary and get enough votes to win, more power to them. But they won’t get any help from conservatives. Many like myself no longer identify as Republican’s. We identify as independent conservatives. I’ll vote for the candidate who best represents my conservative values, even if that happens to be a Blue Dog Democrat over a RINO.”
“Doug Hoffman – the conservative third party candidate running in upstate New York’s closely watched special congressional election – raked in $116,000 in the last 24 hours, a campaign spokesman confirmed to CNN.
The cash haul came the same day former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made a surprise endorsement in the race, voicing her support of Hoffman over the Republican Party’s nominee, Dede Scozzafava.
But Hoffman spokesman Rob Ryan said much of the cash came before Palin made her endorsement public Wednesday evening, and is more a sign of the campaign’s growing momentum in the race’s final days. Other conservatives have also recently aligned behind Hoffman, including former Rep. Dick Armey, former Sen. Rick Santorum, and Rep. Michele Bachmann.”
Here is a nice little article about Hoffman who Sarah just endorsed and who are some of the OTHER people who are supporting Him.
Written by Chris Kelley who is also a Writer for Bill Maher. A little snarky & and Fun.
CG, my thoughts exactly. That’s how the evangelicals got into the Republican party starting back in the late 70′s and 80′s, they ruined the party. Now they’re going for their own party. Not to be taken lightly, nope, not at all. They’ll work through churches and Fake news, quietly at first. Less grassroots, more like a slithering snake take over.
Silverfox67 and CO almost native – There are some quirky and little known laws as they relate to SS and Disability. SSA sends out statements at least once a year, but as with most government paperwork, many people may have difficulty understanding exactly what benefits they are entitled to.
I had worked for over 30 years paying into the system. For the last 20 or so years, I’ve not worked outside of the home except as a volunteer. I have a medical issue now and submitted paperwork for Disability. It was denied because although I had attained the 40 credits, it was so many years ago and some would have had to been earned within the last 10 years.
Situations like your friend is experiencing is just another reason we really need health insurance reform. Most hospitals have financial counselors who should be aware of any/all resources that could be tapped into to help her. If she is/was married, she should be able to draw on her husband’s SS. Peace and best wishes to her.
I’ve been lost today in the land of ” making a living” but when I came across this , I had to break loose in order to share.
This is a video taken of a group that breaks out in to “spontaneous” musicals in everyday places. This one happened in the produce aisle of a supermarket. ( it tends to load a bit chunkily but it’s well worth the watch )
I think this is just way too fun. I wonder if they could come up with a spontaneous musical about Mz Palin!
Martha @ 52, that is so interesting! I was just reading some olders stuff about him an hour ago! Basically a woman who was fired by Murdoch’s News Corp/Fake News said an executive (thought to be Ailes) told her to lie for Guliani, that Murdoch wanted him to run for President.
here is the link……quite a bit of ‘stuff in the closet’.
“Did Fox News chief Ailes try to protect Rudy Giuliani?
In her suit against News Corp., publisher Judith Regan never names the man she claims told her to lie for Giuliani, but he sounds a lot like Giuliani pal Roger Ailes.
[......]
Ailes was a veteran GOP political operative before he launched Fox News in 1996, and is also a personal friend and former employee of Giuliani’s.”
What formal party does Doug Hoffman (New York) represent? What party is on his voter registration card?
In other words, if he wins this special election, what will it say at the end of his name? Example: “Ted Stevens, (R)”
Does anyone know? His website doesn’t state an affiliation.
@62 Co an
@72 Gr Gr 2b
I don’t know if they combine things here in Ohio, all I know is she did not qualify for the full Medicare coverage and does not get it.
She was married, but not long enough to qualify under her ex husbands benefits.
I suggested to her that she might qualify under disability but I really don’t know much about that, or if they would consider her due to her age. Hopefully someone in Social Services at the hospital will lend some aid.
Why American Conservatives Should Be More Like the Brits
The British Conservative party did something astounding at its national conference last week: It spoke to its members like grown-ups. American conservatives would do well to follow suit.
I’m not the first person to suggest that Republicans would do well to steal a page from the Tory playbook. A long line of conservative pundits — including The New York Times’s David Brooks and The Weekly Standard’s Fred Barnes — have been making this case for more than a year now. In particular, they see Conservative party leader David Cameron (pictured) as a pivotal figure in leading his party out of the wilderness, providing a model of how a conservative opposition ought to behave.
I agree with them, but not — primarily — for the reasons they lay out.
Their arguments rest mainly on policy – i.e., Cameron has shrewdly rebranded conservativism with a kinder, gentler touch (to borrow a phrase). They point to his embrace of environmentalism, decentralization and social inclusion. (Heck! The man even thinks same-sex partnerships should be treated like heterosexual marriages. Egads!) All this, alongside traditional conservative values of fiscal constraint and national defense.
That’s all well and good. But I think what the Tories have done superbly is to treat voters like adults.
Take last week’s Conservative conference. George Osborne — the party’s “shadow” chancellor (or secretary of Treasury) — told the party faithful that he would freeze pay for all but the poorest public-sector workers, raise the retirement age, cut benefit payments to middle-class families and slash civil service spending. He also told the City of London (the equivalent of Wall Street) that it might face higher taxes.
Wowza. That’s a whole lot of honesty from one politician. But apparently, the Tories think voters can take it.
And guess what?
So far, party members — and the electorate more broadly — are responding favorably. The Conservative party now enjoys a double-digit lead over the government’s Labour party. Voters apparently feel that a Tory government is more likely to make cuts with the best interests of ordinary people at heart.
Note that this message of fiscal conservatism is exactly the same one that animates many conservatives in the land of the free and the home of brave, most notably in the newly fashionable Tea Party movement. Except that British conservatives are able to promote this message without calling their country’s leader a socialist . . . or yelling “You Lie!”. . . or questioning his citizenship.
Nope. They just lay out their case the old-fashioned way: by reasoning through policy in concrete, forthright terms and appealing to the rational side of human nature.
Maybe that’s a tall order for the more rough-and-tumble corridors of American politics. But I’m with Peggy Noonan in thinking that the current right-wing discourse sells the American electorate short. There are plenty of good arguments to be made out there in favor of conservative ideas. And as Jacob Weisberg argued recently in Slate, having an intellectually serious conservative agenda is good for both the right and the left.
“Barack Obama got 52% of the votes in the 23rd in 2008. Dede Scozzafava had the Republicans. Where could Doug Hoffman turn?
To a traveling freak show of evil creeps who want to use a misguided mediocrity to jerk around the people of upstate New York for shits and giggles.
To Glenn Beck, Gary Bauer, Sean Hannity, Michele Bachmann, Michelle Malkin, Dick Armey and, yesterday, like the churning of milk bringing forth butter and the wringing of the nose bringing forth blood, to Sarah Palin’s Facebook page.
It’s like Commissioner Gordon lit up the batshit signal.”
Hoffman is a fundy. He’s running representing god’s party. Just google him and see who is endorsing him. This is what Sarah has been about all along, she just hid it well. Funny thing – Dick Armey is endorsing Hoffman and Newt Gingrich is endorsing the Republican. Let the games begin! All the better for the Democrat who is running. Get the popcorn ready!
#52 Martha, thanks for the info re: Ailes. I’m no spring chicken, but he’ll be 72 in 2012 & I think that’s too old to be president. Barack Obama is a energetic,
youthful man and that’s the type of person I want running my country. I have a 99 year old mother-in-law that’s still full of p*ss and vinegar but I don’t want her running the country, she’s very set in her ways and the bottom line is that’s it’s a brave new world with a new world order. As much as Reagan came across as an energetic, vibrant man for his age we all know now that he was starting to slip in the alertness category in the last years. We don’t need that again.
“This seems like a likely case of people using Politico’s often overly credulous editorial policies to butter up Ailes and promote themselves. Apply just a shred of perspective to the article, and the whole premise disintegrates: It would be a disaster for Ailes’ reputation, and Fox’s, if he ran, which he of course would never do.”
“Christina Turner feared that she might have been sexually assaulted after two men slipped her a knockout drug. She thought she was taking proper precautions when her doctor prescribed a month’s worth of anti-AIDS medicine.
Only later did she learn that she had made herself all but uninsurable.”
HuffPO is asking folks to share stories of health care denial…….if you have one please share it with them so they can help get the word out there about how abusive the insurance companies have been and continue to be. Creeps.
Please somebody….look at this picture and read about this lady. She seems to look a lot like this woman and has many of the same virtues and she WAS ASSOCIATED with MURDOCK.
Thank you, Honesty in Gov, for providing the link to the Chris Kelly piece. It was funny on its own but with an extra fillip for me when he mentioned that his step granddad, step dad, mother and sisters had fled over the county line into the diaspora of… Cortland! Cortland the diaspora? True, they often get thier Yiddish words from me. My mother’s family are from — and still reside in large numbers — in Cortland and its tiny next door neighbor, Homer. They are also mainstays of the Cortland County Democratic party (and have been for 150 years). While the very wealthy Republican dairy farmers who make up a large part of the county often dominate in Congressional races, the presence of the Cortland SUNY campus and Cornell 15 miles away in Ithaca leaven the mix to the extent that Democrats, occasionally even my relatives, can win city and county races. Currently a Democrat, albeit a blue dog, is even the Congressman.
I also have some relatives in the 23rd but I am not that close to them. On one hand, being a liberal Democrat seems embedded in our genetic code. On the other hand, as my Mudflats name screams, I’m not used to living among the enemy so I don’t know what that does to you. Do you cross over to the other side, especially if you marry into it, just to keep the peace? Does thinking of Watertown as the big city change you? Do you become apolitical? Or do you pretend as the American Wife in the novel does?
With all of this to keep in mind, I’m mulling over making a phone call but haven’t gotten close to pushing the buttons yet.
Whew, very confusing. Campaign workers themselves don’t seem to know how this works. Here’s the deal for Mr. Hoffman:
He’s on the ballot as the local “Conservative Party of New York” candidate. He is a registered Republican and “will be caucusing with other Republicans.”
The “Republican” candidate on the ballot is Scozzafava.
He’s running against her, even though he’s not really, because they’re both Republicans. A campaign worker states that Hoffman “was shut out.” So, I guess he’s not really a Republican, even though he is. [?]
New York has its local Conservative Party listed on the actual ballot, because they’ve met the conditions for that. The rest of the country doesn’t, even though other states have conservative organizations affiliated with this New York organization.
[The semantics are important and we need to be clear here. There is NO national "Conservative Party" as a third formal party. The term refers specifically to the Conservative Party of New York, even though the term is being used without qualification and tends to suggest some kind of larger unified national group. Uncapitalized, the word "conservative" describes a type of value system and goals, not an organization.]
Okay, having said all that, there ARE conservative party organizations in all states that are under the same umbrella organization as the New York organization. The underlying mission is to be a formalized third national party. Guess what they call it? The Conservative Party. “Our founding platform is to re-establish the limits and boundaries of Government as framed by the Founding Fathers of the United States of America.”
And yes, there is one for Alaska, called Conservative Party of Alaska.
The organization and website seems to be fairly recent, with the first post on July 9th with a C.S. Lewis quote: “If you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man.”
The ‘wrong road’, turning around…huh. Right after Palin resigned…
On July 13th, there’s a welcome message encouraging people to join.
Welcome to the Conservative Party
“The time has come for true Conservatives and like-minded Independents to secede from their respective parties and join the Conservative Party.”
Contacts for Alaska is Baton Rouge, LA, with an email address that goes to the national organization.
Under Alaska “Leadership” is blank, no names are listed, but coming soon.
Apparently, “there are Five Key Reasons why conservatives must leave the RNC if genuine conservatism is to survive in America. Based on recent legislative and political Republican failures in Congress, it’s clear you should be aware if them. But I couldn’t find the five reasons…
They’ve got a Voter Registration manifesto [emphasis mine]: Over the years, the core values set forth by the Founding Fathers of this nation no longer find their way into the “preference” values of the dominant political parties. Often disgruntled, ,b>conservative voters re-register as Independents. Not good, for this reason.
The concept of indicating party preference is a good one because it frames national values. Registering Independent is a mistake that prevents identifying Conservatives in the electorate. The answer is for the Conservative to register Conservative Party. Like the Independent, the Conservative can not vote in a “preference” primary, but the good it does is to voice to others in the political universe why the change was made. The change was made because it gives “preference” to the Conservative Party that exhibits the conservative values set forth by our Founding Fathers.
So, “How do I register Conservative?”
Complete the APPLICATION FOR CHANGE OF PARTY AFFILIATION which can be down-loaded here: (under construction). Be certain that you circle “Conservative Party” which follows after OTHER in the new party selection area of the form.
Okay, great. Just a couple of minor details:
~ You can’t register as “Independent” in Alaska. There’s no such thing.
~ There’s no “Conservative Party” listed on Alaska voter registration.
They must be planning ahead. Here’s what Alaska’s current voter registration looks like:
Political Affiliation (Select only ONE) –
Political Parties:

Washington State, Montana and Idaho don’t register voters by party affiliation. I don’t see a ‘Conservative Party’ checkbox for Oregon’s voter registration choices -”Constitution Party, Democratic Party, Independent Party, Libertarian Party, Pacific Green Party, Progressive Party, Republican Party, Working Families Party, Not a member of a party, Other.”
So, we’ve solved the mystery of Sarah Palin’s career plans. She’ll go on Oprah, sell her book, launch the new PAC for Alaska’s official Conservative Party and run for president.
In the meantime, the youngest child will continue to access special needs medical care under Medicaid/Medicare.
I remember seeing Judith Regan on her show at Fox. What a let down when I heard Bernie Kerik was her lover, he is almost as slimy as Rudy. What a joke, Rudy’s little mistake to pick Bernie for President Bush’s homeland security chief. Judith had the dirt on all of them but she took the pay off and settled to live quietly in luxury for life. I think it was this week that Bernie had his bail revoked. He’s in the slammer. The little guys always do the time for the boss.
methinks Sarah’s endorsement is her first step towards getting her new PAC lined up so she doesn’t HAVE to cough any money up to the RNC- who are going to have their hands out, of course! She can then siphon it off as she pleases, as well as have a way to get the Sarah Pac money transferred without having to deal with those pesky Alaskan Ethics issues… If she’s with a party where she’s the “Big Dog”; then there’s no one to tell her what she can and can’t do…..puts the $ under Federal Rules, which are looser than the Alaskan ones that Sarah Pac is under… JMHO
http://countdowntohealthcare.com/ is the link to Congressman Anthony Wiener’s blog page/petition where you can stand up for the public option!! Health and peace to all.
When you go on disability you have to wait two years before you are eligible for medicare..I know that when you reach 65 it changes to regular S.S. I can see why some in the medical profession have a hard time with medicare.I thought it was wrong when it took four months for my doctor to be paid ,but I just received a bill from my welcome to medicare exam back in April of this year and it just was paid this month, thats for the tests done.Something has to be done so it does not take so long for payments to be made.President Obama is right we need more technology in the medical field and that includes in how fast or slow payments are processed for common things.
Her latest actions are like a good bye 4th of July wave to the RNC and the GOP…don’t you think?
I think she was forced into this decision for financial reasons they can’t afford her current world view of herself. She has to be the “iconic one” and this will enable to continue this charade a little longer.
This website has 3 different webcams where you can view and observe the
classy well-dressed critters. They are always dressed for the Party.
I seem to have issues with download bandwidth and buffering speed so my connection does not keep up. You will have to tell me if the webcams work OK.
I came across the penguin cams by mistake…. I didn’t know they had these. I was looking for the other cam they have which is posted on top of a lighthouse on the Farrallons, which is about 30 miles out and away from San Francisco. The web-camera has a 360 degree panorama view which you can adjust to your liking. The Island is a HUGE bird nesting ground and protected. They explained on a show it is a ‘ live ‘ view so if there happens to be fog or it it is night-time. You see nothing. The sun was out today and and it was clear skies earlier.
Do the high-speed or DSL users get a good view? I’m curious.
Interesting and kind of sad. Bill for Glenn Beck Day stuns Mount Vernon. It seems when the Beckster went to collect his key to Mt. Vernon, a bill to the tune of $17,748.00 ensued. Officials were stunned, (?) Huh…they didn’t aniticipate this was going to cost? I say send the bill to Glenn. He makes millions and won’t even miss it. (Or let the mayor pay for it out of his own pocket)
And yet another “Palin” book hits the shelves on the SAME DAY as the she-devil’s book…from the editors at The Nation Magazine, Richard Kim and Betsy Reed.

Happy Friday
Everybody have a great weekend.
In case you missed it here is Florida’s Rep. Grayson in action:

IMHO, we need more like him – do not yield to stupidity.
Palin is going “rogue” again, endorsing third party candidate in a NY race.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/23/palin-endorses-hoffman-sn_n_331279.html
Mmmhh, that picture makes me think that Alaskans think like Italians. Authority is a matter of interpretation, always.
Is that megamouth’s vehicle illegally parked?
Looks like something which should be submitted to the failblog website.
Let’s hope Sarah leads the lemmings off a cliff with this third party.
Awesome!!!!!
Check out The Nation…………..http://www.thenation.com/
oooooo ! a video of Rep. Alan Grayson giving a lesson on the Constitution to Rep. Broun who was trying to deny all funding to ACORN.
http://www.salon.com/news/politics/us_house_of_representatives/index.html?story=/opinion/greenwald/2009/10/22/grayson
dang and DANG!
Trisha, this might work?? http://ny.barackobama.com/BillOwens
I just signed up to volunteer myself
It will be an interesting weekend!
Bush’s visit to Montreal and the accompanying protest did not get any coverage yesterday, I didn’t see anything on Huffpo or t.v.. I was hoping to hear that an effort was made to arrest him in Canada. I’ll have to console myself with the pics of the protesters who threw shoes and burned Bush in effigy:
http://www.montrealgazette.com/technology/Montreal+police+arrest+five+protesters+downtown+anti+Bush+demonstration/2132497/story.html
Would that be……spirit?
I read that Bill Allen is spilling on Don Young. Tee hee.
Silly Sarah may have just handed the win to the Democratic candidate in NY =) Well done – and I hope she continues to forget that she is Ballot Box Poison to anyone she endorses =)
sorry, I meant to say “the Republican candidate snubbed by Palin is a woman”
Don’t want to be the typo police (but I will), but shouldn’t that be “Spirit” and not “sprit”?
Funny though! I saw a meter maid once that was parked in a parking space that had an expired meter. When I pointed out the irony to her (I just thought it was amusing, I wasn’t being critical) she got very defensive and was very seriously telling me that the law allows it. Some people have no sense of humor…
I usually put the open thread up at about 2am, so I need all the typo police I can get! Just don’t give me a ticket…
AKM
I was hoping that candidates would just tell her to go far far away from them.
(Rick Perry actually WANTS her to hang out with him. )
New at HP:

So will Miss Wasilla run for Don Young’s seat? He WILL be gone soon!
Lilybart… Only if she can run her entire campaign from Facebook!
Wow this confession was made in 2007 and they are just investigating it now! So it could be years and years before all of Palin’s unethical behavior comes to light.
17 swe123: Thanks!!!!!!
That looks like a Colorado license plate to me.
Anyone who’s following the Fox News Is Not News happenings, here’s a good article by Glenn Greenwald of Salon.
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/10/23/carlson/index.html
His other articles are great also, too.
Palin/Bachmann 2012…. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE !!!
It is those same forms and his lack of disclosure on them that led the Justice Department to indict Stevens on corruption charges.
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/77632.html
@29….OMG your comment (below) made me laugh, yet it’s such a great description of the ol’ grey maverick. Perfect!!!!!!
….Plus we know she has the attention span of a four year old on a sugar high,
A new study by Representative Anthony Weiner (D – Queens & Brooklyn), member of the Health Subcommittee and Co-Chair of the Caucus on the Middle Class, revealed that 151 members of the House and Senate currently receive government-funded, government-administered single-payer health care – Medicare.
Chris Mathews says Grayson is “Captain Cajones” (sp) LOL, he is such a likable guy!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036697/#33439119

BahstinBoyo aka Wrangler Tractor Palin – On another topic, card was mailed on 10/7 – did it make it safely to you?
Irishgirl…not offensive at all! Hilarious!
Irishgirl, nope, not offensive to ME. Cows on the other hand…

@ (55) silverfox67:
I am not sure why your friend does not qualify for Medicare. In Colorado, those of us (retired teachers) who get PERA also qualify for Medicare when age is reached. I’m not there yet, but I have numerous friends who have/are on Medicare. We don’t get Social Security, of course- but the PERA years correspond to SS when applying for Medicare. I was able to convert my SS years to PERA- expensive, but now it is worth it. They should combine her SS and PFRF to total 40…
Did she not work long enough?
This Friday, I am waiting for an Alaskan politician with the courage to petition the Regulatory Commission of Alaska to begin regulating the retail price of gasoline and diesel, using cost-based pricing.
For the record, I object to any comparison between Palin and a cow. And that’s no tripe.
A fun read

lol
I’ll vote for the candidate who best represents my conservative values, even if that happens to be a Blue Dog Democrat over a RINO.”
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/10/23/major-cash-haul-for-conservative-third-party-candidate-in-ny/

Dr. Phil is doing a show on racism.
I should add it’s about ‘is there racism being directed towards President Obama’. He’s fact checking the rumors and controversy.
Hi again folks! LOLing (very quietly, I’m in a public library) about the cow hole!
I suppose actually INCLUDING the link would be a good thing –

Martha @ 52, that is so interesting! I was just reading some olders stuff about him an hour ago! Basically a woman who was fired by Murdoch’s News Corp/Fake News said an executive (thought to be Ailes) told her to lie for Guliani, that Murdoch wanted him to run for President.

Republican Party
FRIDAY, NOV 16, 2007 12:10 PST
“Did Fox News chief Ailes try to protect Rudy Giuliani?
In her suit against News Corp., publisher Judith Regan never names the man she claims told her to lie for Giuliani, but he sounds a lot like Giuliani pal Roger Ailes.
[......]
Ailes was a veteran GOP political operative before he launched Fox News in 1996, and is also a personal friend and former employee of Giuliani’s.”
Let her start a third party.
She’ll remove all of the crazy, whacko nutjobs that are her base from the Republican Party.
But neither her party or the remaining sane Republicans will have enough numbers to effectively do anything.
Sarah Palin is by far the best thing to happen to the Democratic Party in decades.
What formal party does Doug Hoffman (New York) represent? What party is on his voter registration card?
In other words, if he wins this special election, what will it say at the end of his name? Example: “Ted Stevens, (R)”
Does anyone know? His website doesn’t state an affiliation.
@62 Co an
@72 Gr Gr 2b
Thanks for the suggestions.

We’re just waiting to hear it.
I love people with a sense of humor. lol

We don’t need that again.
night all!
CG……I tend to agree, Ailes has too much baggage and it would damage Fake News image as (cough) balanced and fair.
http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2009/10/23/ailes/index.html
“This seems like a likely case of people using Politico’s often overly credulous editorial policies to butter up Ailes and promote themselves. Apply just a shred of perspective to the article, and the whole premise disintegrates: It would be a disaster for Ailes’ reputation, and Fox’s, if he ran, which he of course would never do.”

They’ve got a Voter Registration manifesto [emphasis mine]:
Over the years, the core values set forth by the Founding Fathers of this nation no longer find their way into the “preference” values of the dominant political parties.

So, we’ve solved the mystery of Sarah Palin’s career plans. She’ll go on Oprah, sell her book, launch the new PAC for Alaska’s official Conservative Party and run for president.
In the meantime, the youngest child will continue to access special needs medical care under Medicaid/Medicare.
The End.
#53 GG2B… Card? Mailed? Moi? C’est quoi? Say What?

Optimistic in Alaska….smile
Are there any Penguin fans out there..?

Just have to say that is a great picture. From the looks of it, the driver moved the first sign to park there. Big Wild Parkers!
