Open Thread – Carried Away

26 10 2009

Another great creation from flyinureye!  This is the next in the hopefully never-ending Alaska Left Behind series!

And speaking of getting carried away…  I got very sucked into writing a post yesterday.  You know when you’re working on something, and all of a sudden you realize that hours have passed.  And then more hours.  Well yesterday afternoon and evening, I did not post.  I was on a five and a half hour train ride into the underbelly of the beast.  All I have to say is…. yikes.

I generally try, as a rule, to give you a Monday morning smile…something to start the week off on a positive note.  Well it’s not happening this week, unless that is, you’re eagerly anticipating the Apocalypse.  It may not make you smile, but it will be memorable.  And it may help you figure out what to do the next time one of your relatives sends you one of those right-wing viral group email things that makes you want to scream.  You might smile then.

So, enjoy the fun and frivolity from flyinureye while it lasts!

Alaska left behind series. What a mind, flyinureye – you’re going to have a hard time topping this one.

Morning all – I so wish the cold weather hadn’t come early this year, but I guess there’s no point in complaining to people who live in Alaska. :-D

Another great one flyinureye! You’re the best. Thanks so much for keeping on and brightening our lives.

Here’s a big hug and a smile for you on Monday morning AKM. ((hug)) :-)

Gee AKM, five and a half hours and you only got as far as the beast’s belly? Must be one giant beast! Flyinyoureye you are too clever by half. Left behind…do you really mean Rupert the Rude will not be raptured? I am shocked, shocked I say!

Wonderful!! I like the idea of Palin suspended above the earth and dragged behind a speeding boat and with no Facebook access. Thanks Flyinureye! ( Does Fly have a website ??)

Well I’m waiting for Levi on the Early Show but haven’t heard mention of him yet. I missed the first 1/2 hr but I can’t imagine they would’ve run him at the top of the show.

Well I wrote a letter to the ADN.
Sarah Palin has finally impacted me by inserting herself in our race in NY 23 district to replace John McHugh.
She has backed to conservative, not republican. All his money is coming from out of state.
Both are running nasty campaigns against the Democrat Bill Owens.

I wonder if they will print my anti palin letter?

This is great! And I’m waiting anxiously to read what you labored over. I need all the help I can get against those viral emails my right wing family sends. Seriously! It’s getting so that I don’t have the energy to reply bk to them with the ‘facts’ (which I’m sure they just delete without reading anyway)

I want to say thank you in advance!

I was also waiting… My wee one, though, has demanded my time. He wants “ants on a log” for breakfast for the fifth morning in a row:)

I’m hoping Levi was not cancelled.

{{{{{AKM}}}}}} All things do get better and your Sunday toil will undoubtedly prove to be of value in the end (no, not the Rapture end either!).

Note change of name from GG2B to GG2C – that’s because great grandson Cayden arrived just before 1am. Little bitty guy, only 6lb 2oz, lots of dark hair. I look forward to meeting him in the next day or so.

Cool weather and frost is becoming the norm here in SW KY, but still mild compared to Alaska and I think of the villagers often and haven’t seen any updates as to their fuel situation. I’m confident Ann would post if she had received any response – why do those beauracrats delay on everything important? Cheney ought to look closer at who is really “dithering”.

So many rumors abounded all weekend, that POTUS wasn’t pushing for the public option and it has gotten many upset, obvious by blog postings by many on the left. It seems there are enemies within our camp who want to cause trouble, and the statements coming out today is that it is totally false. Thankfully, Obama is still pushing for public option.

Let’s all hope this week will be more productive for our government and that some of those rightwing roaches will crawl back into the woodwork for a few days and give us a break from the continual doom and gloom.

    AKM,

I sure appreciate your blog and wonder how you keep your sanity!!!
Five hours of deeply diving into Alaskan politics must take a toll:(.

Several years ago my family and I vacationed in Alaska. Of course it was wonderful but two things have really stayed with us: the melting of Portage Glacier and the bringing in of snow for the Iditarod (we came, in part, to see this epic race).

Thank you for what you do and for trying to do what you can to help your beautiful state.

    daisydem Says:

Where did you go? I bet you did this for us. I also thank you in advance. I don’t know that anything can help me when I get a right-wing viral email; however, I don’t get those anymore. You see, one of those is one of the reasons I ended up on the Alaskan (and AK related) blogs. The last one I got .. right after Barack Obama was named as the Democratic candidate. I mean “these people” wasted no time. There it was in my inbox … making fun of the crowd he had drawn in Europe as the people coming out only for the rock band that opened, then paragraphs down levying the first of many nasty insinuations about his lack of executive experience … on and on it went. This showed up in my inbox from a close friend of my husbands (and mine) for 40 years, of course after having been forwarded, forwarded, etc. I went ballistic. I wrote all on the cc list of the email a DO NOT EVER SEND me anything like this again. I was not nice. But you see, my buttons had been pushed because the minute I got it, it was deja vu. Those same kind of emails, from the same list of people, had shown up in my inbox during the John Kerry/swiftboat attacks! The fallout from my reply was not nice either – I have distanced myself from the friend – I speak and I am cordial, and I would still go out of my way to assist them if needed – I just don’t “pal around” with them anymore. I can’t. (An aside, but related piece of information – this same “mailing list” “cc” list of people are the ones that between the last two elections also send the chain emails of here’s a lovely poem and if you forward it to 10 of your friends in the next 10 minutes, you will have something wonderful happen to you …. or you won’t … or you will die and go to HELL … you get the drift). So, I blocked the emails after sending my scathing reply. I have never forwarded any of them emails about the Republican Party, jokes about Republicans, links to anything. And I don’t send chain emails. Anyway, sorry to rant, but your comment about receiving those emails just resonated with me this morning and reminds me in part of why I am so devoted on a real quiet, personal, and deep level to the probe into the candidacy of Sarah Palin and the politics of the Republican Party. Again, thank you for being there. You cannot know how emotional this has been for me. P.S. Thanks Flyinureye.

Thanks AKM. I read your post “Lost in Translation.” I stayed on til the last stop then only skimmed the final destination. Wow. And this is what I mean about the nasty, viral, right-wing emails. When I first opened the one I got over almost a year ago, I at first thought it was a positive review of then candidate Barack Obama’s appearance in Europe. Then I read on. Thank you for debunking this story about our beautiful First Lady. I wonder … no I know … that probably the cc list of people I have now banned from my inbox probably have been passing this around.

The last disturbing email I received was the picture of the president depicted as a witch doctor with “obamacare” as the tag line. It came from a fellow employee that had sent me other anti-Obama emails which I thought by replying “I don’t know why you would send this to me, you know I voted for President Obama” would give her a clue that I didn’t want to be bothered with such hateful crap. Well apparently like many wingnuts she appears to have been too thick skulled to “grok” my response. When she emailed me the “witchdoctor” I replied “I really don’t care for this sort of thing and would appreciate it if you stopped including me in these emails. Furthermore I think people that are protesting healthcare reform are the easily duped being manipulated by big insurance companies.” That did the trick, our relationship now consists of “required communication”. No big loss, I don’t want to “pal around with wingnuts” anyway.

For those who have not seen the Kseniya Simonova videos Leah Burton posted yesterday, I’m providing a link to the first one. The second will appear at the top of the Related Videos list. Her dynamic sandpainting, set to marvelously chosen music, makes for some of the most dramatic art I’ve ever seen.

    From Wikipedia:

Kseniya Simonova (born 1985 as Ксения Симонова) is a sand animator from Ukraine. She started drawing with sand after her business collapsed because of the credit crunch and had been drawing for less than a year when she entered Ukraine’s Got Talent. She became the 2009 Winner of Ukraine’s Got Talent, constructing an animation that portrayed life during USSR’s Great Patriotic War against the Third Reich in World War II.

Simonova won 1,000,000 Ukraninan Hryvnia (approx. USD125,000) for her first place in the show. A YouTube video of the performance has received more than 5 million hits.

This speaks to what AKM just wrote about blindly believing and following. We must question everything. Below is from the link I just posted. This poor person did this for 35 yrs! and the church forced and convince his wife to renouce and disconnect from her parents who loved her. And the took confidential information to smear another who left this faith after 20 yrs. I can relate, I too did it for too many years in an Assembly of God Evangelical mega church. I’m SO glad I’m out!

“The great majority of Scientologists I know are good people who are genuinely interested in improving conditions on this planet and helping others. I have to believe that if they knew what I now know, they too would be horrified. Okay, ya wanna hear something a tad strange, lol. I was just watching Roadside Antique Show, a gal had a chair on the show of her great grandfather, who happened to be a conjoined twin, chinese. These guys were never surgically separated, yet each married two separate women. They split days between the two separate households and fathered 21 children between the two of them. lol

Can anyone imagine what could possibly go on in the bedroom? They showed a picture of them, they were joined at the side, I’m guessing they each had their own private parts. Just sayin hmmm, lol.
