A Final Look at AFN
27 10 2009Begich Gets Standing Ovation at AFN
I got to be front row center for Mark Begich’s address to this weekend’s Alaska Federation of Natives Convention. It was awesome to be sitting in the beautiful Dena’ina Convention Center that came about because of then Mayor Begich’s efforts. President Julie Kitka presented the Senator with a beautiful pair of work gloves for all the hard work he does. And he was able to share in the joy of the Alaska Territorial Guard, brave veterans who served during WWII, before Alaska was even a state. Thanks in part to the efforts of the Senator, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 will include restoration of retirement payments for the two dozen surviving members of the Alaska Territorial Guard. The Senator is pictured above with former ATG member Paul Kiunya, Sr. of Kipnuk.
After his address, the senator got a rousing standing ovation from the crowd.
Be sure to check out this excellent post from Bill Hess with terrific pictures of some of the many faces and stories that can be found at this amazing convention.
This fall is shaping up to be busy and full of events! I’ve resurrected the Events tab, and will do my best to keep it up to date. If you have any events you’d like me to mention, just drop me an email at akmuckraker(at)yahoo.com and put EVENTS in the subject line.

Senator Begich have been doing some good things for the state of, Alaska. I don’t always agree with everything that he says; be I don’t agree with anything my Sentators say. I would rather have Begich over McCain and Kyl. Want to trade? 2 for the price of 1? I’ll even help with the travel fare.

I am stuck with Kyl and McCain, too. I will gladly trade them out. They have become the very worst. Additionally, I got Shadegg in the House. He is busy routing out Muslims. Asshats!

Poolman, you forgot Trent Franks and the lovely Jeff Flake. Maybe not “yours” but still a black eye for Arizona. I live close to McCain’s office so I flip the bird from my seat on the bus when I pass. No problem for him but I do feel better. We have some great Dem Congressmen. My guy, Ed Pastor is one and Raul Grivalja is a real leader.
Let us Arizona mudpuppies make some noise in 2010.
