Joe the American Doesn’t Want Sarah the Trainwreck in the White House.

28 10 2009

Maybe I’ve been too cynical. Maybe I haven’t given Joe the American enough credit.

More than seven in 10 Americans think Sarah Palin is not qualified to be president, according to a new national poll.

Seventy-one percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday morning believe the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee is not qualified to be president, with 29 percent saying she does have the credentials to serve in the White House.

And more than 7 out of 10 Americans would be right. Of course, there are two sides to every story and the fact that more than 2 out of every 10 Americans thinks she IS qualified to be president is, frankly, more than 2 too much. Who ARE these people?

Republicans appear split, with 52 percent saying she’s qualified and 47 percent disagreeing with that view.

Some day we’ll all be sitting around the campfire drinking a beer saying things like “You remember Republicans, Charlie?” “Yeah, Fred. I remember them. They were real idiots…. before they went extinct.”

“Sarah Palin has one advantage that many past Republican candidates have not shared – Americans think she cares about people like them,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

I watched today in the courthouse while a lawyer argued for a man to get a lighter sentence in part because “he loves his family.” And I thought, “So do I.” Does that mean an automatic sentence reduction for any future crimes I may commit?

So when I hear things like “she cares about people like me,” I think to myself, “I care about people like me, too.” But that doesn’t mean I’m qualified to be president of the United States. I’d rather have a president who cares about preserving our democracy, and the rule of law, and social justice, and clean elections, and eradicating corporate personhood. If we had all those things, “people like me” will be just fine.

    Brilliant…….I could not agree more!

Just need to educate the 2 out of ten.

I’m convinced that is the key AND you do a damn fine job of it.

WE get to spread it around……….knowledge is power.

Sure, I want my president to care about people like me. I also want my president to care about people like people who are not like me. In fact, I want my president to care about all citizens, as well as immigrants who are hoping to become citizens. Even if they are not like me.

When I hear people say ’she seems nice’ I want to dump my head (but preferably
theirs) into a cold vat of water, repeatedly until they realize how stupid that sounds.

Not only does it lower the bar to alarmingly substandard levels, it is also untrue. We’ve seen her, we’ve heard her, hell, we’ve watched her hitch a ride on an evangelical mission to her cold and hungry villages with cookies to address a rural / remote problem with palpable disinterest. . .

Just see the way Sarah treats her family, you see a lame-duck mother and wife who can’t even hack a job she felt she deserved with the most minimal qualifications possible.

    Up your standards America!

While I’m grateful that 71% of Americans realize that Palin anywhere NEAR the White House would be an incredible disaster ……. I’m still worried about the mouth-breathers that represent the 29% who feel that Palin in the WH, you betcha, would be peachy keen! I am simply aghast.

I do believe the 2012 Election is going to come down to the Repub (Conservatives) and the SMART ONES: Dem (Liberals). The (Moderate) Repubs and the (Blue Dog) Dems are going to have to choose a side and be LOYAL to the Party or get out of the way; like Grayson said in his speech about Health Care.

Get prepared-we got a fight on our hands. 29% is just TOO high. I can’t even envision S’naky Quitty Quit as my President.

Don’t worry Claw–campaigning is hard work. And Sarah is not up to anything but being Sarah. And I’m sorry, she’ll never get past MTP (although David Gregory might lay down and cower in the face of her stupidity) , Face the Nation or George. Plus–she can’t make millions as president. But who knows, Rupert probably will give her a couple of bites off the ghostwritten book action.

Two out of ten Americans (or more) believe in alien abductions, that the moon landing was faked, and that a secret cabal of financeers is working to establish the new world order.

Two out of ten Americans (or more) reject Evolution as “just a theory”, believe that the world is around 6,000 years or so old, that dinosaurs and humans were contemporaries, the inerrancy of the King James translation of the Hebrew and Christian texts, and the imminent fulfillment of the prophecies of the Book of Revelations-with the “rapture” tacked on as a non-canonical afterthought-and a personal god who observes and intervenes in their lives.

They cannot be ignored, as they have managed to infiltrate all areas of the Civilian Government and, ominously, the Armed Services, and they are the de facto kingmakers of the Rethuglican party. They cannot be educated, because they are a cult whose leaders require them to reject all information not originating with Dear Leaders. They can only be contained by opposing their efforts to insert their authoritarian beliefs into law at every level.

Let Queen Sarah have them. If the Rethuglicans let themselves be defined as the party of Know-Nothings, the party of blow hard liars like the drug addled Rush, and by the convictions of the White citizens of Utah, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Mississippi, then all that is left is a mopping up action.

I love how they’re shaken down daily for a small contribution to the manufactured wingnut crisis du jour, while their rich corporate overlords pump the propaganda machine.
