Sarah Palin’s Fond Farewell to Disclosure Reports. (POLL)
28 10 2009Well, here it is. Sarah Palin’s last report to APOC.
I will leave the detailed dissection to those who are suited to such things, but here’s me sort of live blogging the document.
Using an outdated form, she has crossed out the old dates and written in new ones. Is the new form the same as the old form? If it is, then why would they print the date range on them?
I find it amusing that her name appears at the top of the form as: S’ARAH, with an apostrophe after the S. Don’t know why. Just do. Perhaps it’s because it may confirm that English is not her first language.
The form is filled out in long hand, in kind of a scrawly block print, if there can be such a thing.
Her mailing address is listed as the office of her attorney, Thomas Van Flein. His phone number is given. Understandable. “Hey, Sarah! Is your refrigerator running?” That would get old fast.
Claimed $6,370.80 in per diem. Juneau…Wasilla….whatever.
Under DETAILED DESCRIPTION of services provided, she has written – “Governor.”
Todd Palin’s fishing business is called….. are you ready?…… No, I’m not making this up….. Toad’s Fisheries. Wow.
And from employer “Self” Sarah Palin got $1.25 million from Harper Collins. And under DETAILED DESCRIPTION of services provided? “Retainer for book.” That’s three times as detailed as her last detailed answer! We learn subsequently from Meg Stapleton that anything else she’s getting is none of our business. But we do know that she took in more than a million dollars while she was governor of the state from an outside source that in no way benefitted the state.
And now for the head-scratcher…. The ex-governor, while in office, was the owner of a business called “Pie Spy LLC.” This is listed as a marketing business, again with the Law Offices of Thomas Van Flein as the address. Pie Spy? The paperwork tells us that this Limited Liability Corporation was organized by none other than Meg Stapleton, (who, by the way, has a very weird signature that looks nothing like Meg Stapleton) and that the corporation is for the purposes of providing services to the elderly and persons with disabilities. It was filed on April 3, 2009.
April 3…. Hmm. What was happening then? Let’s hop in the Mudflats time machine! (everything goes all blurry and then refocuses) The then-governor had just written a letter trying to get the legislature to have an open vote on a candidate for Juneau Senator that they had already rejected because he decided to become a Democrat only 2 weeks earlier.
It was the day that she said she agreed with Republican party chairman Randy Reudrich that Mark Begich should step down from his Senate seat because if we had a real time machine and could go back in time and also at that point have been able to see into the future, we might have re-elected Ted Stevens.
There was an active volcano threatening to obliterate a tank farm full of oil and hurl it into Cook Inlet. Bloggers were aiding in the organization of food drives to Western Alaska, assisting residents who could not afford both food and fuel for their families, and the state had done nothing about it. And she had just cancelled her appearance at the Republican Senate-House dinner for the second time. Remember those days, when Sarah was just….Sarah?
And apparently, in the middle of the pyroclastic flows, the illegal senate appointments, the broken dates and the freezing people, she found the time to birth the mysterious Pie Spy, LLC. Sources say it was designed to bring baked goods to seniors and the disabled and check out how they were doing under the guise of delivering food. Sooo, if that’s true then …. why not Cookie Care? Or Everyone Loves Cake? Or the Brownie Brigade? Doesn’t “Pie Spy” kind of tip off the people that you’re actually there to “spy” on them? I can see it now. “It’s that damn pie spy! Pull down the shades! Don’t answer the door!”
Then there’s the amount of Todd’s super dooper secret Arctic Cat discount that can never ever never be revealed. They tell us it’s $3252…. Now they’re going to have to kill us. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more details about that later. Call it a hunch.
And then there’s a long list of personal checks for amounts ranging from $250 to $1000 – some typed, some hand-written. A big scrawled note says that they either have been, or will be returned to the parties that wrote the check. It doesn’t say why they are being returned, but all the checks are dated after she announced she’d be quitting. And all of them are over the limit set by the Alaska Fund Trust (aka her legal defense fund).
And then there’s a whole page of gifts she’s received including those infamous Yankees tickets, the Alfalfa Dinner tickets from Fred Malek, various framed flags and objets d’art, a skirt and blouse from some guy, Todd’s travel for the Candie’s abstinence tour with Bristol, and $2,666 worth of Nu Skin skin care products.
There is no doubt that this will continue to be discussed in depth.
Which is the Most God-Awful Palin Business Name?
- Pie Spy (52%, 709 Votes)
- Rouge Cou (27%, 372 Votes)
- Toad's Fisheries (21%, 282 Votes)
Total Voters: 1,363

On another note…Palin breaks free of handlers to attack Levi:

If he really does have “huge” things that he is keeping to himself then Mrs. Palin is playing with fire!
Post up on this topic! AKM

OMG Sarah notes Levi’s “desperate need for attention” Projecting much? LOL

Awwww, s’arah’s prob. NOT going to go to Iowa to speak to them…: http://ap.juneauempire.com/pstories/state/ak/20091028/510019679.shtml

I followed the link to the “Articles of Organization” for Pie Spy, LLC and noticed at the top of the PDF show that it was faxed from Rebound Sports & Orthopedic Physical Therapy.
Looks like someone is conducting “non-business” on company time. This buisness is located at:
O’Malley Square
11260 Old Seward Highway
Anchorage, Alaska 99515
So…who did that???
Meg Stapleton’s husband’s business AKM

I agree with the posters who see Pie Spy as a company to funnel money for the care of Palin’s youngest child, his caretaker(s), even Sarah’s parents, should they require any special care later in life.
I was just watching Chris Matthews who was discussing Karzi’s brother who was reported to have working for the CIA, and, at the same time, may have been involved in Afghanistan’s drug trade. (Talk about a conflict of interest). One person suggested that the CIA does not write checks to people like Karzi’s brother. Matthews and his panel clarified for those of us who need it spelled out– shell company.
The CIA created a shell company, a company to whom they would write the checks and that company would then pay the agent/drug guy. When Valerie Plame was described as working for the CIA, she also worked through a shell company which was revealed when she was “outed.”
The term “marketing” is so general that it could be anything. We have to keep our eye on them to see if they develop a related interest which is the fund raising arm of the newly formed company. I also wonder if John Coale who helped Sarah set up her PAC and legal fund may have suggested this operation for her, too. It could have also been suggested by Meg, Meg’s husband, the lawyer, anyone.
As a totally unrelated topic, I read the criticism that Sarah made towards Levi, calling out CBS for allowing Levi the chance to come on TV and lie. Let us remember the remark and save it for the time when Sarah appears on Oprah’s program. I hope that Sarah will be totally truthful since it would so so wrong for a television network to allow someone to come on a program and lie.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:21 PM
That would be Stapletongue’s hubby’s business.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:22 PM
“Rebound” Physical therapy is Meg Stapleton’s and her husband’s (different last name) business.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:28 PM
Pie Spy as a company to funnel money …………..
I actually know a lady who does this. Raises huge amounts of money for her nonprofit for autistic kids & spends every cent for her own kid, games, toys, trips, nannies, etc. No other kids benefit. It’s a one person con game. Sounds right up SPs alley… it’s all about the $$$. Money for her. And her baby she calls the r—-d.
October 28th, 2009 at 1:28 PM
Isn’t Meg Stapleton’s political consulting firm called Izzy Lene Someone who thinks Izzy Lene is a good name for a professional business probably thinks Pie Spy and Rouge Cou have great potential. We know what happened to Rouge Cou. Here’s to the same fate for Pie Spy.
PS to AKM. Thanks for the lovely snail mail!

Politico has an article on the disclosure form and Pie Spy.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1009/Palin_created_company_while_in_office.html
Politico is definitely a rightwing site. Comments are about split down the middle pro and con, many are downright crude – there sure are some hateful people out there.

From the IRS:
“A few types of businesses generally cannot be LLCs, such as banks, insurance companies and nonprofit organizations. Check your state’s requirements and the federal tax regulations for further information.1”
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p3402.pdf
And from the State of Alaska Div of Commerce Guide to Establishing a Business in Alaska, pg. 17:
“An LLC is an unincorporated association having one or more members.”
And from same document, page 20:
“Nonprofit Corporations
Three or more natural persons, at least 18 years of age, may act as incorporators of a nonprofit corporation…
… A Nonprofit Corporation must meet qualifications stipulated by the IRS if they wish to receive grants and receive tax-exempt donations. Contact the IRS for further information regarding tax- exempt status.”
www(dot)commerce.state.ak.us/investments/pdf/EstablishingABusiness.pdf
So, seems to me a non-profit LLC is not actually legal. Corporation yes, LLC no.
*********************************
That effectively convinces me Pie Spy cannot be not-for-profit, therefore, anything Todd & Sarah dump into it is not, off the top, tax deductible.
I would imagine, as a business, it will have to pay taxes, but that’s where the complex interplay of income minus expenses comes in. Any ‘seed money’ the Palin’s put into ‘the business’ I believe is not counted as income but may be considered an investment and they could get a tax deduction if the business has a loss in it’s first year which it certainly will (and that won’t necessarily trigger an IRS flag ‘cause it’s very common).
So, IF they can legally take a good percentage of the building they’re building as a tax deduction for Spy Pie …. it could work as a decent home-grown “tax shelter”.
BUT … the IRS won’t be convinced if the official state of Alaska documents do not show a physical office address and they are trying to take a tax deduction for a physical office! (Not that I know that’s what they are trying to do).
BTW, I have nothing against them establishing a business and running it like all the rest of run our small businesses. They are free to take advantage of whatever is legal to take. My objection lies in if they are not intending to actually run it as a real business. That’s what would cheese me off.
Who IS giving them their financial advice?
As someone in the band Spinal Tap said “There’s a fine line between clever and stupid”.
October 28th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
Upper West Sider–the company name Izzy Lene is derived from Staple’s kid’s name, as I recall.
October 28th, 2009 at 2:06 PM
Exactly how long does Sarah Palin think people are going to donate money to her? Her political career is over. Is she going to become an ordained minister and start a church?
October 28th, 2009 at 2:09 PM
S’arah Faye Palin.
Just had to,
October 28th, 2009 at 2:16 PM
If Levi does know something “huge” then isn’t it his obligation to tell, at least if it is something illegal?
She just makes me sick. I guess we can guess why it’s taking so long for those emails to be released.
P.S. I love snail mail. Thanks AKM!
October 28th, 2009 at 2:17 PM
Would Pie Spy qualify as a recipient of the funds from the Alaska Fund Trust? Is this a way of converting those unneeded ‘legal expense’ donations into a trust to benefit the family, without pesky oversight?
October 28th, 2009 at 2:26 PM
Nothing says “presidential” like a world-wide public pi–ing match with the teenage boy who knocked up your daughter.
The only good thing about the latest dust-up with Levi is that it makes S’arah look even more ridiculous to everyone but her brain-dead “base’.
October 28th, 2009 at 2:32 PM
Sarah, for your book deal you don’t get to say “Employer-Self”.
The correct response is “Employer – HarperCollins Publishers”.
Or if you want to cut to the chase, “Employer – Rupert Murdoch”
October 28th, 2009 at 2:51 PM
She has a talent for names. Trig. TRIsome-G Downs syndrome. She likes to get cutesy.
Nice of her to call Levi ,in essense ,a male prostitute cause he might pose in his skivies or the altogether.
Considering Candies ads???? Some looloos. Jenny McCarthy sitting starkers on a ‘loo with her panties around her ankles.
Levi better tell the authorities what he knows now.
October 28th, 2009 at 2:56 PM
I find the Levi-Sarah ‘feud’ distasteful to say the least, but the fact is, Levi never asked for any of this. He is a complete victim (as are Bristol and all the Palin kids).
Sarah on the other hand had ample opportunity to make different decisions. She made her choices, and everything that has transpired has been because of HER choices, not the fault of anyone else. Todd, as an adult, had the responsibility to reasonably advise his wife about an important decision and advocate for the impact her choice would have on him and their children. Seems to me he advocated more for himself (”Hey! My wife’s a star! I don’t have to go back to the slope and workin’ for the man, I can just fish, and ride my snowmachine, yeah, I’ll go for that!) than he advocated for his children’s interests.
So while it is tawdry, I can’t fault Levi for taking the opportunities that are being presented to him. He is a pawn on the chessboard (and of course, we all know who is the Queen!)
Or is he? If he’s getting a flat sum from Playgirl for the shoot, whatever it is, and he’s fine with it, maybe he sees that as the ‘nest egg’ to get a foundation to be able to help care for his son and start a life for himself.
Who would begrudge someone earning that money? I mean, at least Levi isn’t going online and begging you to donate to the TrippFundTrust. Really. Who has more pride here?
October 28th, 2009 at 3:17 PM
I must have missed something somewhere: what does Rouge Cou mean?
“Red Neck.” AKM
October 28th, 2009 at 3:24 PM
I think she was getting all cutesy with the name Piper and of course, her own initials:
Pi-per
“S.P., Inc.” = SPI
PI-SPI = Pie Spy
*sigh*
October 28th, 2009 at 3:30 PM
O’Donall is going to talk about the Levi interview on Countdown..me thinks it going viral.
October 28th, 2009 at 3:36 PM
In a way it is sad.
Obama is reviled, doing essentially what he said he would do.
Levi is reviled simply for being shoved out on the national stage by a power hungry woman who doesn’t know her limits. And since he can’t get a job in Alaska so to speak, he makes hay while the sun shines. What is he supposed to do, get a job in Taco Bell?
Levi knows his limitations. And I hope he drives S’arah bonkers because she does know that he knows the very things that could eventually bring her down.
But she can’t handle him . All she had to do was play nicey nice, and treat him reasonably well, but she is doing a Trooper Wooten snow job on him. The only difference is, Levi can tease her with what he knows, and she can’t do a thing but issue ridiculous rejoinders.
She calls Trig An angel from heaven? I BET.
October 28th, 2009 at 4:18 PM
InJuneau, thanks for the derivation of Izzy Lene
October 28th, 2009 at 4:59 PM
The irony I’m seeing in Palin’s “false” business is this: Didn’t S’arah leave the state of AK’s healthcare system in the worst state of disaster in history and the Feds had to step in to repair the damage? I don’t remember the details, but it’s what struck me as a total farse when I read about the intentions of this bogus business-like she really cares about people’s health.
October 28th, 2009 at 5:08 PM
Levi/Palin of course has appeared on People which isn’t surprising as People is Rightwing. Under More News at the bottom of the page is FauxNews. One of Palin’s previous interviews with People, the interviewer was slobbering all over Palin as the best thing since sliced bread

hhmmm,,,when you line something out on an offical document, aren’t you suppose to date and initial it ?? For someone who has such frequent use of attorneys, there seems to be a lot errors.
Wife started a travel business a # of years ago, and had to run business name in the local paper for a bit …Alaska doesn’t require this ????
October 28th, 2009 at 8:34 PM
Could “pie spy” be a term she heard from Levi?
October 28th, 2009 at 9:35 PM
Someone is going to offer Levi money for his “secret” and then the sparks will fly. Hope he is careful——as he will need protection. He is dealing with a fireball!
October 28th, 2009 at 9:44 PM
Actually, as names go, I don’t find “Pie Spy” to be that awful.
Also, too, another vote here for the idea that it is some kind of possible tax dodge.
