Sarah Palin’s Fond Farewell to Disclosure Reports. (POLL)
Well, here it is. Sarah Palin’s last report to APOC.
I will leave the detailed dissection to those who are suited to such things, but here’s me sort of live blogging the document.
Using an outdated form, she has crossed out the old dates and written in new ones. Is the new form the same as the old form? If it is, then why would they print the date range on them?
I find it amusing that her name appears at the top of the form as: S’ARAH, with an apostrophe after the S. Don’t know why. Just do. Perhaps it’s because it may confirm that English is not her first language.
The form is filled out in long hand, in kind of a scrawly block print, if there can be such a thing.
Her mailing address is listed as the office of her attorney, Thomas Van Flein. His phone number is given. Understandable. “Hey, Sarah! Is your refrigerator running?” That would get old fast.
Claimed $6,370.80 in per diem. Juneau…Wasilla….whatever.
Under DETAILED DESCRIPTION of services provided, she has written – “Governor.”
Todd Palin’s fishing business is called….. are you ready?…… No, I’m not making this up….. Toad’s Fisheries. Wow.
And from employer “Self” Sarah Palin got $1.25 million from Harper Collins. And under DETAILED DESCRIPTION of services provided? “Retainer for book.” That’s three times as detailed as her last detailed answer! We learn subsequently from Meg Stapleton that anything else she’s getting is none of our business. But we do know that she took in more than a million dollars while she was governor of the state from an outside source that in no way benefitted the state.
And now for the head-scratcher…. The ex-governor, while in office, was the owner of a business called “Pie Spy LLC.” This is listed as a marketing business, again with the Law Offices of Thomas Van Flein as the address. Pie Spy? The paperwork tells us that this Limited Liability Corporation was organized by none other than Meg Stapleton, (who, by the way, has a very weird signature that looks nothing like Meg Stapleton) and that the corporation is for the purposes of providing services to the elderly and persons with disabilities. It was filed on April 3, 2009.
April 3…. Hmm. What was happening then? Let’s hop in the Mudflats time machine! (everything goes all blurry and then refocuses) The then-governor had just written a letter trying to get the legislature to have an open vote on a candidate for Juneau Senator that they had already rejected because he decided to become a Democrat only 2 weeks earlier.
It was the day that she said she agreed with Republican party chairman Randy Reudrich that Mark Begich should step down from his Senate seat because if we had a real time machine and could go back in time and also at that point have been able to see into the future, we might have re-elected Ted Stevens.
There was an active volcano threatening to obliterate a tank farm full of oil and hurl it into Cook Inlet. Bloggers were aiding in the organization of food drives to Western Alaska, assisting residents who could not afford both food and fuel for their families, and the state had done nothing about it. And she had just cancelled her appearance at the Republican Senate-House dinner for the second time. Remember those days, when Sarah was just….Sarah?
And apparently, in the middle of the pyroclastic flows, the illegal senate appointments, the broken dates and the freezing people, she found the time to birth the mysterious Pie Spy, LLC. Sources say it was designed to bring baked goods to seniors and the disabled and check out how they were doing under the guise of delivering food. Sooo, if that’s true then …. why not Cookie Care? Or Everyone Loves Cake? Or the Brownie Brigade? Doesn’t “Pie Spy” kind of tip off the people that you’re actually there to “spy” on them? I can see it now. “It’s that damn pie spy! Pull down the shades! Don’t answer the door!”
Then there’s the amount of Todd’s super dooper secret Arctic Cat discount that can never ever never be revealed. They tell us it’s $3252…. Now they’re going to have to kill us. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more details about that later. Call it a hunch.
And then there’s a long list of personal checks for amounts ranging from $250 to $1000 – some typed, some hand-written. A big scrawled note says that they either have been, or will be returned to the parties that wrote the check. It doesn’t say why they are being returned, but all the checks are dated after she announced she’d be quitting. And all of them are over the limit set by the Alaska Fund Trust (aka her legal defense fund).
And then there’s a whole page of gifts she’s received including those infamous Yankees tickets, the Alfalfa Dinner tickets from Fred Malek, various framed flags and objets d’art, a skirt and blouse from some guy, Todd’s travel for the Candie’s abstinence tour with Bristol, and $2,666 worth of Nu Skin skin care products.
There is no doubt that this will continue to be discussed in depth.

Does anyone who works for the State of Alaska CARE that $arah submits a piece of crap statement? It’s an embarrassment for them.
One would think that her attorney would have filled out the forms with the proper dates pre-printed, and that it would likely have been typed.
Another blog mentioned that the forms were submitted by fax from the clinic owned by Meg Stapleton’s husband. Other than her statement that Palin’s business would be totally private from now on, MS has been noticeably absent. Someone must have told Sarah to put her on a short leash.
Palin certainly tests the realm of reality and her statements of disclosure are alot of fiction. This is no doubt full of holes and the AK’s state gov’t is a sham when it comes to ethics. This woman has balls….
Well you can’t very well be a rogue goin’ millionairre maverick plain and simple, “Sarah”. She had to toss a little bit of flair in there. Even Madonna didn’t think of that, did she. ( maybe she picked it up from one of her favorite rappers) I think she should continue to hone it and go beyond just an apostrophe. I think an exclamation mark might be in order.
Detailed description of services provided : Governor. HA! I guess that says it all. Other than holding the title, what else is there really to say ?
Re: Pie Spy – I’m going to toss a thought out there that this goes along with the weird religious thing. One one of the instructional videos I saw talked about how it is important to get out there and find ways of getting in to homes and businesses in order to work on converting people to Jesus and to get them in to their particular church. “Lending a helping hand” was said to be one of the most effective avenues because the people are beholden to you and are more apt to listen. I’m going to toss my 2 cents in on that being at least part of the purpose. My gut’s also saying that it would make a good front for money smoke and mirrors.

All 3 business “names” sound like a 12 yr old trying to be creative and not knowing exactly how, therefore coming up with “made up stuff.” I think it’s a tie. Isn’t there some kind of ethical problem w/Palin getting that $1.25M while in office? If not, there should be.

I am so tired of people who chose to protect this self serving horrible woman. McCain appreciates her, his daughter won’t talk about her and Levi won’t tell anyone the BIG stuff that he says he knows will could get her into trouble. What are they waiting for?! Should we wait until she gathers more supporters and more power that will cause more damage to the country? We may despise Madame Palin but many still hold the pedestal steady for her. When anyone says a word against her they are haters or worse. Those in the GOP that created this monster need to be held to task. Newt, who was one of those responsible for her rise, is just beginning to see the damage she is capable of. She is a dangerous woman because of her selfish desires and because of the wingnuts who adore her. Those against her tend to laugh her off as someone whose 15 minutes of fame are over–but it’s been a lot longer than 15 minutes and she is still making headlines and still gains supporters. It’s time for those “in the know” to come clean about this fraud and be done with her.

I had an S-corp. once upon a time, and am not sure how LLCs differ, but to be able to form any type of ‘corporation’ with a two-page articles of incorporation that fail to mention what the business is and who the business operators are seems kinda fishy to me.
Thanks AKM for digging in the archives about what was going on at the time. The timeline is definitely part of the story. Why would Meg ‘organize’ this LLC at this time (pre-resignation), and SP not trumpet to the high heavens that she has created this marvy new business to help seniors and persons with special needs?
Last I heard, you had to pay federal taxes on the sum total of money taken in, minus allowable deductions and credits. $P can’t possibly have much in deductible expenses for writing the book. So she bought a new computer and printer. There’s $2500. Travel to see publisher? Um, she’s already admitted someone else picked up the tab. Those expenses were not out of pocket. Paper. Printer ink. Misc. office expenses.
Also, if Todd has been claiming a business loss for snowmachine racing, he’s better watch it, ’cause the IRS will, if they catch it, call it for what it is (a hobby) and disallow the expenses.
I hope they have a good tax accountant.
As Meg said, it’s true, their finances are officially none of our business.
But they will become so again if she decides to run for president, or any public office.

What is SP going to do for income as she drops more and more into obscurity? Because that is what is happening. It’s the rare instance that anyone wants her for a speaking engagement, if she were to show up. Her talents and work ethics, or lack thereof of both, have been showcased quite thoroughly so that, beyond a small group of people, few give her any regard. Her lack of ability to handle things wisely is notorious: it is doubtful that her $1.25 million retainer plus any further earnings from her book sales will last long. The time will come that she will be simply a weird footnote in American politics.
She needs to go to prison with the rest of Alaska’s crooks.

Could be she only claims piper, willow and trig. The older two may be independent at this time…which would allow them a certain amount of TAX FREE gifts from Mom. Dontcha know?
Another thought occurred to me – did Pie Spy apply for (and get accepted as) a 501(c)3 company? If she is claiming it to be a non-profit for helping elderly and disabled, then a lengthy application would have had to be submitted, and then annual reporting is also extensive. I’ve completed many of these through the years for various groups and businesses. The biggest problem I see with this status is the churches – how they manage to mix religion and politics, yet don’t lose their status, is beyond me.
Please correct me if I’m wrong… but was it not illegal for XGINO to be earning extra-curricular monies, whilst holding a position (more like perpetrating a fraud) in the Governor’s office?
I am struck by the description of this disclosure: hand scrawled on an outdated form? Sounds like a really conscientious, professional job to me.
As for voting for those so-called business’ name: she does have a way with words. Only Sarah could make me believe those are real businesses.

State programs intended to help disabled and elderly Alaskans with daily life — taking a bath, eating dinner, getting to the bathroom — are so poorly managed, the state cannot assure the health and well-being of the people they are supposed to serve, a new federal review found.
The situation is so bad the federal government has forbidden the state to sign up new people until the state makes necessary improvements.
No other state in the nation is under such a moratorium, according to a spokeswoman for the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
In the meantime, frail and vulnerable Alaskans who desperately need the help are struggling.
One elderly woman is stuck in a nursing home, for lack of care at home. Another woman, suffering from chronic pain and fatigue, said she’s so weak, she often can’t even pop dinner into the microwave.
The moratorium is expected to last four or five months. State officials estimate about 1,000 Alaskans will be affected.
A particularly alarming finding concerns deaths of adults in the programs.
In one 2 1/2 year stretch, 227 adults already getting services died while waiting for a nurse to reassess their needs.
Another 27 died waiting for their initial assessment, to see if they qualified for help.

I think that Sarah was planning her escape, I mean resignation, for quite a while, just trying to get her ducks in a row, so to speak. So, when I first read that Pie Spy was associated with physical therapy for the elderly and disabled, a picture flashed in my mind.
During the election, Sarah’s prop as advocate for the disabled (and right-to-lifers) was Trig. In terms of the best care for a Down Syndrome child, dragging him around to noisy, brightly lighted campaign events was not in his best interest. He needed therapy for movement, speech, hearing, seeing, more.
Now it is not so easy to drag him around as a quiet, compliant prop, so Sarah needs another prop to show that she is an advocate for the disabled (and enhance her right-to-life creds). Pie Spy may be designed for that.
If Sarah wanted to enhance her qualifications as a speaker and advocate, she would be speaking at every organization meeting for the disabled and/or every other cause she has attached herself to. She would not have the requirements of an outrageous fee, travel expenses, rules (no cameras, recording devices and so on). Instead, she would be accumulating a video of her speech, interaction with the adoring crowd— oh, sorry, that’s the sticking point. She doesn’t answer questions, never did, never will. What ever question Sarah will be asked on Oprah’s show or in her coming book tour, she already has the answers well rehearsed, regardless of what the question will be.

@dreamgirl: Someone at Palingates make guesses as to what the Pie Spy name meant. I like the explanation that it might be a child’s adorable mispronounced version of “I Spy” said while playing peek-a-boo. If you say it fast enough, you could come up with Pie Spy.

I think that PieSpy company is a front for her minions to take care of her first grand baby – the one with downs syndrome. Also, too, to take care of HERSELF when she becomes old and feeble. After all, it will exist for 80 years (she, however will not live for 80 years, so the rest of the years, it will provide for her daughter Bristol, so she keeps her mouth shut about all of $arah’s shenanigans.
My personal favorite from the form is the $1664 in airfare that Palin got from evangelist Franklin Graham for the “plate of cookies” trip to western Alaska. I mean, here were Alaskans in isolated villages running out of food and fuel in the middle of winter and the Governor of Alaska not only does nothing to help them, she doesn’t even pay her own airfare out to visit them. Oh well, had to save the state the money you know … there were all those per diems to pay her for living in her own home at the same time she was pocketing $1.25 million ……… Remember to contribute to her illegal Legal Defense fund……..I need to go for a walk now…..
Levi’s interview stated that he had the goods on S’arah that could really get her in trouble as governor. When the interviewer asked “legal trouble?” Levi started to say “yes” and then stopped himself. I wonder what he knows? and if that is the real reason that S’arah resigned.
Palin’s Disclosure is just beginning. We all know the lies that are inserted in the disclosure. There are Regulatory Personnel that may see Meg’s statement as an, ummmm. She can’t tell them that it’s none of their business what other income Palin as accrued. It’s not the bloggers business but it certainly is the State and the good old IRS business. The Board can, also, reject the form. There are rules to be followed and she needs to be held to follow the rules. Observers are getting tired of her being the exception.
One thing about lies; you have to remember them. I wouldn’t be giving her timelines on the events that occurred on certain days and times. Make her do the work and cover her own tail-end (being polite). If things go to court; and one day they will. Make her and her cronies spend money and time dotting the (i’s) and crossing the (t’s). They can counteract everything that is being said because we are telling them what to look for; we are telling them what they should do; we are telling them what the public thinks. You know the old sayings: don’t let the right hand know what the left hand is doing; don’t let others know what you have in your back pocket.
They thought that they scrubbed the internet? the blogger sites? The internet is never clean. There is always information floating around. Someone(s) have everything and just waiting for the right moment to use it.

My personal favorites were her doctored kids travel authorizations. Also, too this is reflective of a very paranoid person who doesn’t want her staff to get too close either. If she does it herself, she doesn’t have to answer to anybody in Sarah’s world.

I am not sure that any accountant or attorney would complete the disclosure form for SP. Attorneys and accountants knowingly entering false information in any of the fields would potentially be held to stricter standards than the former GINO and the penalties would be harsh. If she gets caught up in another lie, she has the old fallback protections that have served her so well in the past.
She just gets weirder by the day. I don’t honestly think that we will ever know all the ways she duped the state and lied about the things she did or the money and goods that she received.
And about those checks that are going to be returned. . . why weren’t they returned as soon as they were received, given that it was after she resigned and the amount was more than was legal for her accept? And what happens with those donors now? Will they just rewrite the checks and send them to a different account of hers? That just sounds a bit too fishy.

I just had a bad thought.
A very. bad. thought.
I am the parent/legal guardian of a young man with significant disabilities including Down syndrome. From the beginning, I knew that I would need to be his advocate, to learn how to access the service system, to change laws and state budget through lobbying and testifying. It was a long, hard road but it worked: as a young adult he lives in his own home, has 24/7 support in his home and community, a job coach and supports for part-time employment, and a reasonably good life. In some ways, his life looks like what everyone “hopes” will happen for our loved ones with disabilities.
In my view, without fierce advocacy and unflagging monitoring and participation, most people with disabilities don’t reach this level of care…..it is frightfully expensive, as you can imagine. The costs of his plan of care exceed a quarter of a million dollars annually.
As his parent and legal guardian, I get to choose the public or private, profit or non-profit agency that employs the providers of his needed services. Providers get paid through the medicare waiver program, and the agency gets a cut of everything.
Here’s my bad thought: Given the propensity of $P to work EVERYTHING to her financial benefit — could she be setting up Pie Spy LLC as a way of providing the services her own disabled son needs in a way she could control and profit from? Sadly, there’s plenty of room for abuse in systems like these, especially if you are “well connected.”
If she would charge a “Christian Charity” for her airfare to take cookies and religious tracts to hungry people IN THE STATE SHE WAS GOVERNOR OF, what wouldn’t she do??

Couple of speculations:

I think I figured out where the rumored $7 million came from. Tina Fey’s book deal is for $6 million, and they couldn’t possibly admit that the fake Palin was worth more than the real one, so they just bumped it up $1 million to save face.

Another thought occurred to me – did Pie Spy apply for (and get accepted as) a 501(c)3 company? If she is claiming it to be a non-profit for helping elderly and disabled, then a lengthy application would have had to be submitted, and then annual reporting is also extensive. I’ve completed many of these through the years for various groups and businesses. The biggest problem I see with this status is the churches – how they manage to mix religion and politics, yet don’t lose their status, is beyond me.
Remember S’arah so called legal fund. Isn’t there something in there about the money can be given to a Charity of her Trustee’s Kristin Coale’s choice? Notice she created this company around the same time as the Alaskan Trust Fund. Anybody else thinks that this is where she has sent her Legal Funds too?

If I had a senior parent I wouldn’t let her near my parent. What makes her qualified to handle senior citizen issues. All kidding aside they have many problems. What kind of education does she have? Really, after having to deal with my in-laws both in their 70s and 80s having many medical issues. This woman can’t manage her own family how in the heck is she going to take care of senior citizens. If this is suppose to give her creds than she needs to move on. Senior citizens and her own children are not her pawns.

Well, this form finally answers a question people have been asking for a long time. No, no, not any of those pesky questions about financial matters.
We’ve all been wondering how much she actually contributed to her upcoming book. We still don’t know how well she can write the truth (a concept she’s clearly not altogether familiar with) but, hot damn, she can write some good FICTION!!!
Allowable deductibles from disability income are quite numerous. One of my neighbors has a 40-something year old son with Cerebal Palsy. Because of my accounting background, she’s asked for my assistance with completing the annual reporting forms through the years.
There are only the parents and son in the household. They are allowed to claim 1/3 of all expenses, such as mortgage, utilities, food, household items such as cleaning supplies, soaps, etc., property tax, homeowners and vehicle insurance. (If there were 4 in the household, they could claim 1/4, and so forth.) They can also claim gas and mileage for any medical appointments they take him to, or if they go to pick up prescription refills, or if they take him shopping for his personal items.
Additionally, they can deduct if someone else cares for him on a temporary basis, such as if they go off for an evening and have someone in to stay with him. If I was to charge a fee for asisting with the reporting (I don’t charge), then that could also be deducted out of his check, not out of their personal pocket.
Also, furniture specifically for his room or use (bed, chairs, linens, etc.) and items such as television, computer, other electronics, games and on and on, are also accounted for from his money. I’ve probably left out a few things that can also be deducted by the parent/guardian as it’s been nearly a year since I last completed the report for them.
The bottom line is that all monies have to be accounted for, but any money-hungry-grubbing guardian ad litem can find ways to never be out a penny from his/her own pocket.
People who do this with a child’s/ward’s disability income are dispicable in my book. *Normal* parents provide for their children to the best of their ability and don’t expect someone to reimburse them for every bite of food the child eats, or every kilowatt of power they use.

As a physical therapist, business owner of a therapy center, Meg’s husband may be providing or coordinating supportive therapy for T1. He would also be familar with state or private billing practices for long term treatments and therapies.
Makes sense to me that the LLC was set up to provide cash flow to Bristol as the caretaker of T1. Sources of incoming $$$$$, Alaska Fund Trust and new solicitations.
When Sarah and Toad contribute to the LLC, they receive a tax break. Perfect scenario – everyone in the P family wins a bonus round when incoming funding comes from the state, mad bots, devout followers.

I agree with the posters who see Pie Spy as a company to funnel money for the care of Palin’s youngest child, his caretaker(s), even Sarah’s parents, should they require any special care later in life.
I was just watching Chris Matthews who was discussing Karzi’s brother who was reported to have working for the CIA, and, at the same time, may have been involved in Afghanistan’s drug trade. (Talk about a conflict of interest). One person suggested that the CIA does not write checks to people like Karzi’s brother. Matthews and his panel clarified for those of us who need it spelled out– shell company.
The CIA created a shell company, a company to whom they would write the checks and that company would then pay the agent/drug guy. When Valerie Plame was described as working for the CIA, she also worked through a shell company which was revealed when she was “outed.”
The term “marketing” is so general that it could be anything. We have to keep our eye on them to see if they develop a related interest which is the fund raising arm of the newly formed company. I also wonder if John Coale who helped Sarah set up her PAC and legal fund may have suggested this operation for her, too. It could have also been suggested by Meg, Meg’s husband, the lawyer, anyone.
As a totally unrelated topic, I read the criticism that Sarah made towards Levi, calling out CBS for allowing Levi the chance to come on TV and lie. Let us remember the remark and save it for the time when Sarah appears on Oprah’s program. I hope that Sarah will be totally truthful since it would so so wrong for a television network to allow someone to come on a program and lie.

That effectively convinces me Pie Spy cannot be not-for-profit, therefore, anything Todd & Sarah dump into it is not, off the top, tax deductible.
I would imagine, as a business, it will have to pay taxes, but that’s where the complex interplay of income minus expenses comes in. Any ‘seed money’ the Palin’s put into ‘the business’ I believe is not counted as income but may be considered an investment and they could get a tax deduction if the business has a loss in it’s first year which it certainly will (and that won’t necessarily trigger an IRS flag ‘cause it’s very common).
So, IF they can legally take a good percentage of the building they’re building as a tax deduction for Spy Pie …. it could work as a decent home-grown “tax shelter”.
BUT … the IRS won’t be convinced if the official state of Alaska documents do not show a physical office address and they are trying to take a tax deduction for a physical office! (Not that I know that’s what they are trying to do).
BTW, I have nothing against them establishing a business and running it like all the rest of run our small businesses. They are free to take advantage of whatever is legal to take. My objection lies in if they are not intending to actually run it as a real business. That’s what would cheese me off.

I find the Levi-Sarah ‘feud’ distasteful to say the least, but the fact is, Levi never asked for any of this. He is a complete victim (as are Bristol and all the Palin kids).
Sarah on the other hand had ample opportunity to make different decisions. She made her choices, and everything that has transpired has been because of HER choices, not the fault of anyone else. Todd, as an adult, had the responsibility to reasonably advise his wife about an important decision and advocate for the impact her choice would have on him and their children. Seems to me he advocated more for himself (“Hey! My wife’s a star! I don’t have to go back to the slope and workin’ for the man, I can just fish, and ride my snowmachine, yeah, I’ll go for that!) than he advocated for his children’s interests.
So while it is tawdry, I can’t fault Levi for taking the opportunities that are being presented to him. He is a pawn on the chessboard (and of course, we all know who is the Queen!)
Or is he? If he’s getting a flat sum from Playgirl for the shoot, whatever it is, and he’s fine with it, maybe he sees that as the ‘nest egg’ to get a foundation to be able to help care for his son and start a life for himself.

The irony I’m seeing in Palin’s “false” business is this: Didn’t S’arah leave the state of AK’s healthcare system in the worst state of disaster in history and the Feds had to step in to repair the damage?
