Open Thread – A Funny from Fox.

FOXblooper

Oh, I do love this so.

It’s from FoxNews.com.  (Where else?)  It does make me wonder, though.  You know how every time a Republican is caught in some awful sex scandal and they show them on Fox News with a (D) after their name, and then they say it was just an accidental typo?  Do you think maybe it really was?

Nah.

Maybe Fox news needs to watch more David Letterman.

Dave has been mentioning Sarah’s book almost every night by name….

    Good Morning ¤
Watched “By the People” last night. It was an interesting behind the scene look of Obama’s road to the White House. Also too i’m glad Hoffman didn’t win, it would have made Palin and her camp insufferable ( more so than normal, if that is possible)
The best election coverage came from John Steward last night, he realy hit the ball out of the park :)

Gee, Fox finally got something right – Sarah is definitely an American Nightmare. LOL

I watched By the People just now (missed the first half hour, so I’ll watch that tomorrow). It took me back to last year like it was yesterday. We just need to recapture that energy of electing Obama and turn it to getting a good health care bill passed.

Glad Owens won in New York 23. The net result of this is one more Democrat (conservative though he is) in the House for the next year. The Dem for Virginia and Corzine were wretched candidates (for different reasons). I think the politicians actually know this, and won’t draw any conclusions from it, so the media can say all they want. And Bloomberg just barely won. Joy Newton Small of Time said on Hardball last night that that was the big news, and it is.

Maybe fox is confusing the rouge with the lipstick on the pig???

I’m amazed and thrilled Owens won NY-23. In reading other sites and comment threads, I’ve seen people saying Dems wons TWO seats in congress this election. Anyone know who/what other race?

All of the sudden that 60 votes for Public Option Health Care may have gotten a bit closer to happening.

The new senators/representatives need to hear our opinions on this issue, so, back to the old drawing board of writing your letters and making your phone calls. Mr. Terps reminded me I haven’t weighed in with my new (tho temporary) senator for Florida LeMeuex (spelling may be wrong). He was appointed by Gov. Crist when Mel Martinez retired.). So, we’ll see what happens.

*** I am very, very excited about the upcoming road trip for my book. It will be an honor to meet as many of you as possible!

“Going Rogue” publisher HarperCollins is working hard to schedule book signings across the nation, and we’ll be announcing the locations in the next day or two. I’ve decided to travel to cities outside of the typical book tour venues, and I hope to cover as much of the country as I can.

We’re in the process of arranging interviews with local and national media. An interview with Oprah Winfrey is already scheduled, and I’m also hoping to have the opportunity to talk with Bill O’Reilly, Barbara Walters, Sean Hannity, Greta Van Susteren, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Dennis Miller, Tammy Bruce, and others, including local Alaska personalities Bob & Mark and Eddie Burke. … but I have this new mac computer with this new Sarah Palin “What I Really Meant” software, so I ran that paragraph through the program and here’s what I got:

“My book publishers (whatever its name is and whatever their name is) are working hard to find locations to have me do book signings where more than six people will show up to have my book signed. I’ve told them explicitly I do not want to go to any places where people might make fun of me and they told me that means I must travel to cities outside of typical book tour venues. I hope winky isn’t silly enough to try to take credit for the two gubernatorial wins last night. The fact of the matter is that both, especially VA, were expected. Deeds in VA ran a bad campaign & Corzine was very unpopular. Both repugnant candidates told winky “thanks, but no thanks” to her offers of campaigning for them. Congressional wins are much more important in the scheme of things. Now that winky, dick 2 (armey) and their brigade of flying monkeys have meddled in upstate ny politics and aided the Democrat in winning the district for the first time in over a century, what next? I’m hoping they opt to hop in the batsh*t crazy mobile and head down to TX. I’d like to see a 3-way tag team cage fight. On one side winky, dick 2 and “goodhair perry. On the opposing team dick 1 (aka darth vader), KBH and the princess of darkness, daughter cheney. First round dick 1 vs dick 2,
dick 1 wrote the book about being a ruthless, black-hearted, cold-blooded pr*ck, he eats the likes of dick 2 for an after school snack. Round 2 winky vs princess of darkness (pod), pod verbally shreds winky apart inside a minute. Round 3 kbh vs goodhair, who knows? But KBH certainly has the most venomous tag team partners.

This is funny…I love the Palin references….here are the highlights, but there is another funny about Limbaugh at the end…..Chris Kelly’s writing style reminds of AKM’s

Doug Hoffman lost his election last night. He was supported by a plurality of talk radio entertainers, and a majority of former half-term governors of Alaska, but it wasn’t enough. An obscure quirk of constitutional law says you also need votes from voters. This is the same cruel hurdle that tripped up three of his other biggest supporters, Gary Bauer, Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani, all of whom ran for President of the United States, but failed the “getting votes” test, because everyone hates their guts.

Doug Hoffman didn’t just have money to burn and the staunch support of Facebooking frost bunnies, Fox News and the Ghosts of Vanity Campaigns Past. He also had coots on the ground; an army of volunteers from the tea bag movement, the 9/12 Project and the fanatic anti-choice fringe. The problem was, they could shout at the polling places as loud as they wanted, and they did, but they didn’t live there, so they weren’t allowed to vote.

The CA special Congressional election was to fill Ellen Teusher’s seat because she joined Obama’s admin. She was the first Dem elected in this district in a long time. The winner, John Garamendi, is a progressive who had been elected as Lt. gov to Arnie. He easily won victory so this is just one more formerly red district that has turned blue in recent years.

I’ve hoped he would run for governor ever since he was Insurance Commissioner and totally reformed auto insurance in a very good way. He’s very smart and talented and will make a great addition to the Progressive Caucus.

His background in regulating insurance companies will also come in very handy in getting a handle on health insurance reform. I expect that Nancy will have him hit the ground running on the current bills and further legislation to fix the mess. Go John!

    Is The Tea Party Over?

The tea partiers are launching the revolution. This week. But will anyone actually show up?

On Sunday, Rep. Michele Bachmann challenged viewers of Sean Hannity’s Fox News show to join her last-ditch attempt to kill health care reform.

The fiery Minnesota Republican plans to hold a press conference at “high noon” on Thursday.

She urged Americans to flood the halls of Congress that day, find their elected officials, “look at the whites of their eyes and tell them, ‘don’t you dare take away my health care.’”

Since then, so-called tea party patriots have been burning up the Internets trying to rally supporters to attend Bachmann’s event. But so far, their efforts haven’t amounted to much. The official Tea Party Patriots website laments that Bachmann’s rally is being stymied by a “media blackout”—meaning that mainstream outlets like the New York Times and the Washington Post have ignored it.

    Bigger Disaster Looms in 2010

    Democrats Crash and Burn

    By DAVE LINDORFF

It would be easy to read too much into the few statewide races that were decided last night, but I think it’s fair to say that the results in New Jersey and Virginia, where Republican gubernatorial candidates won–in New Jersey’s case knocking off a well-funded Democratic incumbent–that the results were a blow to the Barack Obama/Rahm Emanuel strategy of playing to the right, of avoiding confrontation in Congress and of ignoring the progressive voters whose enthusiasm and effort back in the 2008 campaign put Obama in office.

Exit polls showed that many Obama voters sat out this election in New Jersey and Virginia, with turnout low in both races.  In part that was because of local conditions, of course. In Virginia, Democrat R. Creigh Deeds ran as a conservative, and was attacked by the Republican candidate, former state attorney general Robert McDonnell, as a tax-happy liberal.  With liberal voters in Virginia unenthusiastic about Deeds, and Republicans revved up, the loss was a foregone conclusion, even with Obama making two visits to campaign for Deeds, and with the national Democratic Party pumping in $6 million in campaign funding.

In New Jersey, incumbent Democrat John Corzine was wildly unpopular for raising taxes, so that even with Democrats holding an almost 2:1 registration advantage in the state (half of all voters are unaffiliated), he too had no enthusiastic backing from his former base. No amount of money poured in by the former Goldman Sachs chief executive could overcome the negative views of his record as governor.

But despite the lackluster candidates in both Virginia and New Jersey, I think it’s safe to say that there was also clear evidence that the losses, and the margins of the losses—huge in Virginia’s case, and significant in normally safely Democratic New Jersey—provide evidence that the Obama presidency, and the prevailing Democratic strategy of minimalist legislative initiatives on health care reform, global warming etc., expanded and unending war in Afghanistan, support for Wall Street and neglect of the one-in-five Americans who are unemployed or underemployed, are a political disaster in the making for Democrats in general and Obama in particular.

The president came into office on a wave of populist enthusiasm and high expectations for the “change” candidate Obama promised. No change has been forthcoming now for over nine months, and with the president now past the first-year anniversary of his historic election victory, the latest election results suggest that his presidency could already be headed for the rocks.

2010 is an election year that will see all seats in the House, and a third of the seats in the Senate up for grabs. Typically, a president’s party loses seats in that election even when things are going well. When things are not going well, the losses can be significant.

Obama had a chance, coming into Washington after a big rout of Republicans last year, to set out an agenda of major progressive change. He could have called for expanding Medicare to cover all Americans. Instead he handed health reform over to Congress and immediately put out the word that he was open to compromise with Republicans, thus dooming reform from the outset.  He could have announced a thorough review of America’s two wars, and then set in motion a withdrawal form both Iraq and Afghanistan. Instead he dithered on Iraq, and added troops in Afghanistan, assuring that both these disasters inherited from the Bush/Cheney administration became his own disasters, which will now drag on through his whole term.  He could have declared a global climate emergency, and announced a job-creating crash program to develop renewable energy in the US and to make the US a leader in renewable energy R&D. Instead, he did almost nothing in this critical area.  As for the economic crisis, he could have taken a progressive stand against the abuses of Wall Street, ordered a criminal investigation of the banking class, broken up the big banks and established a new regulatory system to put an end to the era of casino capitalism.   Instead, he put the bankers in charge of Treasury and poured trillions of dollars into the largest banks, allowing them to grow even bigger and more predatory.

Voters, their collective assets shrunken over the year by $14 trillion, understandably are left wondering how, aside from better verbal skills, this president differs from the last one. As for the Democratic Congress, with Democrats pretending that nothing can be done unless they have not just 60 seats in Congress, but perhaps 70 or 75 (enough to be able to survive the inevitable defection of conservative members of the party), they can’t do anything of consequence—a claim that only is true if, as is the case, the party’s leadership and the president are unwilling to punish those who break rank.

If Democratic and progressive independent voters feel the same way about Obama and the Democratic Congress next fall, it will be curtains for the Democrats and for Obama’s presidency, such as it is.

And you know what? It won’t matter much if that happens, because what we’re seeing is that having Obama in the White House, and Democrats “in control” of Congress doesn’t get you much in the way of progressive change.

    Hey Mudpups!

Saw this great article today via Firedoglake – http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/12726

It reminded me of some of AKM’s posts – when you read it, you will see what I mean.

The problem with Sarah Palin is that she has well and truly bought into her own spin. She honest to goodness believe she is a superstar and whenever she waves a magic wand (or stamps her feet) – things WILL happen. Trouble is, things do happen, but rarely in the way she envisioned.

This article brings together perfectly the reasons why Palin will not succeed in dividing people every time she sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong. It’s telling that she learnt nothing from her time in Alaska of alienating everyone but the staunchest (and most deluded) Palin-ite, burning her bridges, throwing people from both sides of the aisle under the bus, lying every moment she opens her mouth and when all else failed, bulldozing her way thru.

Palin paints herself as a maverick. She doesn’t seem to realise that there are actual people in this country who really possess a fiercely independent streak. No matter their political leanings, Sarah Palin would do well to learn and remember that people do not like it when outsiders swoop in and try to takeover.

    A snippet:

“When you live in a place where 7 feet of snow falling in a g**-damn week is a fairly regular occurrence, where you have to depend on your neighbors to plow you out and dig out your second floor windows, and anyone caught with engine trouble in the middle of the night between December and March could freeze to death if they tried to walk home alone…when the major economic engine of the place is either power (up in Gouverneur) or the military (Fort Drum), to have someone as ignorant as Hoffman being inserted into the community conversation sort of..sticks in your craw.”

“Inserted”? Oh you’re too kind. I think “rammed” or “foisted upon” or “shoved” describes what Palin tried to do here with her endorsement of Hoffman.

CNN has a quote from Queen Hester here:

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/11/04/palin-ny-23-race-just-postponed-until-2010/

It’s obvious that the intent was not to get Hoffman into NY-23 so much as to prevent Scozzafava from winning the seat.

    ____________

Gee, I wonder how the GOP feels about her strategery to get a Democrat elected to a seat they have held for 150 years.

Plus, it makes no sense. If the intent was to make sure that Scozzafava didn’t win because she is a moderate and not anti-choice or isn’t anti-gay, how much sense does it make to get a Democrat elected? Did she think the Democrat would be more conservative than a moderate Republican?

Or, is her intent purely to purge the Party? If so, the GOP really has a problem.

That quote reminds me of a child who falls off a swingset and stands up and proclaims….I meant to to that, while blood trickles down their leg.

Republican Senate candidate Mark Kirk of Illinois is reportedly trying to get Sarah Plain to endorse his candidacy, which is not surprising considering the formidable sway the former Alaska governor seems to hold on the conservative movement.”
    ______

All that money, all that drama, all that activity of bussing people in to heckle voters, all that noise from Beck and Rush…..and SP’s movement lost! So, again, what formidable sway does she hold on the conservative movement? But hey, if he wants her help…bring it on!

I suspect that the real story here is the battle for the Republican “soul”. Sarah and company would rather have a Democrat win (temporarily) than a moderate Republican. Remember that seat will be back up next year when all of the House of Representatives face re-election. Unfortunately, Sarah appears to be making some headway in that people like the Senate Minority Leader and the RNC jumped on board for Hoffman instead of denouncing the tactics of the “conservative” wing.

There’s an interesting analysis in a Mother Jones article where Palin’s position is given a new name–at least one I’ve not heard before:

“Perhaps Palin does intend to keep her position as cannibal-in-chief. If not, she runs the risk of disappointing the true believers she inspired in the fight for NY-23. Alienating her fellow RINO poachers could cause serious difficulties for Palin in a presidential campaign—and leave an opening for other contenders to fill. “This is tricky stuff,” says a senior Republican strategist allied with another possible 2012 GOP presidential candidate. “She could be walking right into a breach.”"

#121 Trisha, no they aren’t very kind but extremely accurate, thanks for the tip. I only hope one of winky’s minions scours all the blogs and is reading those comments. I guess she’s far too delusional to understand that she could possibly be one of the most reviled people in the history of the US. If you really think about it can you think of anyone in your lifetime that has as many horrible things said or printed about from both sides of the fence? I think she far surpasses W and tricky dick. I think for the sake of her family she should give up her twisted ambitions and drop out of sight. I can’t believe she would even want to be out in public anymore.

Oh my gosh, the trolls over at Huffpo just got me steaming. They are saying that, for an unknown third party candidate to get 45% of the vote was amazing and that Palin rocks.

Really? For all that money, attention, right wing celebrity radio plugs, national conservative leaders doing ads, bussing in supporters,etc…..it sure seems like they really didn’t get a bang for their buck. Owen’s wasn’t getting free national radio and TV plugs every day…..and he won!

One said, what’s the big deal, he got 45% of the vote…why are all you libs bragging? No joke. The kind huffpo readers had to gently explain to him that right now, Hoffman has 0 votes in Congress, because he LOST. A small point that seems to have slipped out of their tiny pea brains.

#127 Trisha, I saw that, it p*ssed me off too. But let’s put things in perspective, a dem hasn’t won that district in over 150 years. There are tons of fringey repubs in that district and yet Owens got over half the vote. Tea party types are prevalent but winky & armey’s choice lost. Yes, it’s always mind boggling that so many wingnuts live among us. To be honest I was surprised hoffman lost, hubby is from western NY and he was more surprised than me. He swears his family would have voted for hoffman and never would have considered voting for a democrat.

Palin and her deluded fans can spin the conservative loss in NY-23 race any way they please but all their rationalizations sound weak.

If Palin and the teabaggers can’t win in a Red District with 150 years of GOP representation, a million dollars plus in campaign funds, the endorsements of most of the conservative talking heads and leaders, and the withdrawal of the only other GOP candidate…….then it’s a darn big loss.

Giddy with her own self-importance when VP Biden mentioned the fallacy of Palin’s energy policies in his campaign stump for Owens, Palin was so certain of her “victory” in NY-23 that she laid down Hoffman as her sacrificial gauntlet by taunting “Hoffman, baby, Hoffman” as a response to Biden

No doubt about it……Palin has egg on her face. Her vaunted “influence” didn’t carry the day….instead her interference delivered an unexpected congressional seat to the Dems.

Egged, baby, egged……and everyone knows it.
