John Boehner Reads the Constitution…Declaration… Whatever.

6 11 2009

Yesterday, the faux outrage just bubbled over for Rep. John Boehner (whose website goes out of the way to tell you it’s pronounced BAY -ner). To prove his patriotic cred, he whipped out the pocket constitution he carries with him as he addressed the crowd about voting down evil bad health care reform. Little did he know…

Oh dear. John, John, John…. In your zealous passion to be a patriot by carrying around your little pocket constitution, you’ve overlooked one little detail. Knowing what it says.

I believe the document you were quoting was the Declaration of Independence. I mean, they’re both old and they sound good, so I can understand the confusion. But here’s a little device that has helped millions.

Could he just claim “I got caught up in the moment” lol

Am quite concerned about the lack of knowledge by our representatives –
If teachers have to take a certification test to stay in the classroom -
I propose we have our sen’s/congress do the same.
They can take a weekend power crash course of School House Rock.

Enjay, he was reading from a pre-written speech. There will be no claiming he was under the pressures of the moment. I hope that someone gives him a little lesson…. How about it, Faux “news”?

Maybe it was the size of the print? Boehner should just trot his little legs over to the National Archives a couple of blocks away and refresh his memory by viewing the originals…

I thoroughly enjoyed Rep. M. Bachmann (R, Crazytown) mouthing the words right behind him though…

enjay @ 3 – You made me start thinking how well would I do in a civics test. So I found one example of some of the questions on the citizenship test.

    Try this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13442226/

I got a whopping 85% and am irritated it wasn’t higher. Reminder to self: Read carefully, and don’t second guess yourself!

Liberty Lover – Now I have to watch again to see that! lol

I scored an 85% as well.

I got a 90%. I blew the name of the naturalization form, and the amendment that didn’t have a voting issue in it. I was tempted to answer “Who has the power to declare war?” differently. I wish I could have written “theoretically” on it before submitting. AKM

I saw that last night on KO and Rachel and just had to laugh. All those people standing behind him, and not one of them tried to correct him either. So, maybe they don’t know? or they just figure that the people who showed up wouldn’t know the difference, so why bother?

When representatives and senators get elected, do they have to take a civics test before they start serving? Perhaps they should – if they can’t pass, send them back home. That would solve a lot of our problems.

(Bachman still says it’s unconstitutional to make people buy anything. Really? In most states, if not all, people are required to buy auto insurance. So . . . )

Of all people, a congressman, you would think he would be embarrassed and humiliated by his mistake, but then he’s a Republican. It really seems quite natural with Boehner’s arrogance that this would happen. Lately it seems many of the Republican’s have been talking out of the tops of their head and crafting what they say according to what crowd wants to hear. In this case, Boehner thought he would be clever and repeat the “Constitution” to please the crowd, and besides, he wouldn’t have to prepare he would just read from what has already been written.

    Schoolhouse Rock … rocks!!

Thanks for posting the vid, AKM, brought back memories.

Also, I noticed a little funny.

Near the end where the people are going into the modern voring booth, there’s levers for them to pul with names by them.

Well, those are the names of the people who helped bring you SHR! The first one I noticed was Lyn Ahrens (or Lynn Ahrens) who went on to write lyrics for musicals such as “Ragtime”. Neil Costa is apparently her husband and they probably met working on SHR. George Newall was, I think, a producer and Tom Yohe was one of the animators.

That’s all I Googled, but if you watch it again, pause there and give the artists their credit!

I’ll bet nobody in that crowd knew the difference. Since to them reality is what they say it is, they can read the phone book and call it the Constitution. What a bonehead Boehner is. Can you imagine if a Dem did that? It would be breaking news on that crazy channel.

    honestyinGov Says:

Boehner is always good for a few ‘ laughs ‘. This would be OK if he was a Clown with a Big Red Nose performing at Children’s Birthday parties in backyards across America. Hmm… Did Boehner go to College… was it the same one Sarah went to?
One of his other ’slips’ was after the President was sworn in. He announced in the News plans to close GITMO and Gregory from ” Meet the Press ” had the interview.
Boehner was argueing against The President bringing prisoners onto American soil. John proclaimed to Gregory that how about he put them in Alacatraz then….as a solution. I think this was attempt to slam Pelosi as well since he knew it was ‘ near ‘ her district. ( A two-fer for John )
Mr. Gregory… on camera had to lean over and quietly inform/remind Him that Alacatraz was no longer a prison.( Hasn’t been for years ) Great YouTube clip.
It is a Tourist Attraction and part of our Nat’l Park system/government. The same Government he is a part of and that writes him his paycheck.
He knows sooooo little about His Government.
Scary to think that when the GOP was in power THIS was the Guy who was the Majority Leader at that time. He was the one the Dems had to go to to ask questions of and to TRY get things done. Can you imagine negotiating with THIS GUY?

Oh please read Dana Milbank’s column in the Washington Post about this event! My favorite bit is about how “By the time it was over, medics had administered government-run health care to at least five people in the crowd who were stricken as they denounced government-run health care.”

Honesty, well he doesn’t have a big, red nose but he is orange. Maybe one of his parents was an oompa loompa? And when someone called his office to point out his faux pas, his staffer didn’t see why it was a big deal? I would have asked the staffer what John didn’t pull out his Constitution when Americans were being illegally wiretapped? Or when detainees were being tortured? Or when habeus corpus was suspended? Or when innocent people were being rendered? Or etc, etc. It seems the only time John gets concerened about rights being taken away is when it has to do with big corporations losing money. And like the nuns used to say when I was in grade school “When two nouns go a walking, the first one does the talking, like boat, seat, shout, and BONER. Oh, and the Senator from Idaho, don’t give me that it is pronounced Cray-po. It is pronounced as it is spelled, Crap-o, which is quite funny when you realized that his fellow senator at one time was a guy who liked to hang out in bathrooms.
