Palin to Speak in Wisconsin – Get Ready for the Pat Down.

OK Wisconsinites!  Alaska blogger Sarah Palin is coming to your state!  She’ll address the Wisconsin Right to Life Group.

Tickets for the event at the Wisconsin Exposition Center outside of Milwaukee, which go for $30, appear to still be available.

The restrictions are “bizarre,” according to Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate.

“You know, for someone who claims to be a rogue and isn’t afraid of what other people think it really is sort of hypocritical to not let the media, the press cover your event,” he told Wisconsin Radio Network.

Excited?  Got your checklist? Remember all bags will be searched.

•No cell phones
•No recording devices
•No video or still cameras
•No laptops
•No photos or recording allowed
•No literature distribution
•No posters or banners
•No strollers or car seats
•No carry-in food or beverages
•No pens
•No pencils
•No crayons
•No paper
•No telling your friends about it later
•No mnemonic devices
•No memorization
•No paraphrasing
•No disparaging remarks
•No falling asleep
•No rolling your eyes
•No leaving in the middle
•No giggling
•No elbowing the person next to you
•No BLOGGING ABOUT IT!

OK, only the first nine apply to this particular event, but we can imagine  it’s only a matter of time before the rest are added.  And I wouldn’t rule out the impending pat down and cavity search. You can never be too careful.

Unless they are going to pat everybody down, there definitely WILL be cell phones and recorders smuggled in, ESPECIALLY after the draconian ban.

For a woman who ostensibly wants to woo us all to vote for her, she seems to not trust us as far as she can throw us.

Oooo, I can hardly wait to her what she has to say!

This event is at the State Fairgrounds in West Allis. I doubt that they will have metal detectors, although I suppose wands are a possibility. To be honest, searching bags is not that uncommon at paid events — often, the main thing the organizers are looking for is outside food/drink, because they want to sell that to you inside.

I’d be surprised if they looked really hard for cell phones, because if they find one, what are they gonna do? Turn away a ticketholder? Take the phone and issue a receipt? (Better not lose any of them).

Also, too, this is Milwaukee in November — people are going to be wearing lots of outerwear. With, you know, lots of pockets and stuff.

  61. 61
    terpsichoreNo Gravatar says:

Right, swe123@50, we can’t have anyone comparing the WI RTL speech with her IN RTL speech last year (or was it earlier this year? I forget).

Anyway, it’s not impossible the security rules are the venue’s and not Sarah’s specifically (I said possibly). That’s pretty standard if you want to get into a TV show taping, for example. (And my student’s think I’m mean expecting them to stay off their crackberries for the 75 minutes of class … and expect they won’t have to go to the bathroom during that time. BTW, my students are adults, not grade schoolers….). So I do caution anyone trying to sneak something in. Do be prepared for the possibility that you might be caught and turned away. It could happen, and it would be within the rights of … whoever made the rules, to enforce their rules.

But I don’t see how it will be possible for her to avoid local press on the book tour, or people with recording devices, so in her words. “no worries”. There will be ample opportunity for oir Sarah to step all over it with her words.

Of course, starting off with Oprah and a five part (my God, what was someone thinking, that anyone would be interested in five parts of SP?) interview, I think we’ll get enough fodder for the entire next year’s worth of SP hilarity.

I get frustrated with these different causes that put forward much time, energy and money just to hear Sarah babble on for 45 minutes. Why do people think $P’s testimony of her keeping her baby any more important than her next door neighbor’s? Do they figure just Sarah should get a monetary reward for making that decision?

There are plenty of women who made the choice to keep their babies against all odds, who are average working women, or stay-at-home women, who don’t depend on praise from the public eye, and who never get a dime of money from anyone.

Organizers are going to have to evolve with the times. I think conferences hosting very special guests who take a lot of energy, time and money to set up these things, should stop, take a moment, and use the monies to open a shelter for young teenage girls. In these hard economic times, who can afford these tickets? Republican higher middle-class citizens who have vacation homes and are set for life. You can bet that the young girl who is alone, pregnant isn’t going to be able to afford to attend. And, could they guarantee counseling, help, support for these girls or women if they do decide to keep their babies? No, it’s a facade.

SP is no hero in my book. She kept a Down’s Syndrome child in very pampered surroundings. Healthy grandparents, teenage kids ready to help, a husband who could afford to stay home………they were not living paycheque to paycheque. This sham, creating her to be a Mother Saint Hero is nauseating.

Shoot, I could fit a cell phone in my back or breast pocket and no one would know. What about my sock or my bra? This is ridiculous.

Also, I’ve been at events where they search the bags… I’m not sure that I trust my security to the people checking my bags for minimum wage. I trust my fellow event goers for not bringing dangerous items to the event.

Rebekkah, your ‘rant’ is completely understandable. You touch on so many great issues, like, yes, what you choose to spend your money on says a lot about you as a person. I did the math and under the new Republican Heath Plan (no really, the real one), I’d have the thrilling opportunity to have health insurance (which I do not have now) cost, by 2016, $610 a month instead of $660 a month (the CBO estimate for what would be saved under the republican plan).

    Whoppee.

See, what galls me is that when I say I can’t afford health insurance, they say I am lazy or cheap, should work more (I have two part-time jobs, non-eligible for health insurance, so don’t have any; how much more am I supposed to work?) or suggest I waste my money on other things besides the neccessities.

So it’s understabdably upsetting that people go out on the Tea Bag Parties and act like they are being monetarily squeezed end from end … when that is not what this administration has done to them. If they are really concerned, they should tighten their own belts, like they are asking us to do, and stop wasting money on unimportant entertainment like 30 bucks a pop to hear Sarah Palin speak for 45 minutes (yes, the rest of the time is warm-up acts).

Go with your spouse, that’s $60. bring one kid, that’s $90.

I agree, you should have the right to choose to spend your money that way if you choose. But when I say “I can’t afford health insurance” because I don’t get it through my employer, (and cannot), I really resent anyone telling me I should just “work harder”.

The Gridiron Club is best known for its annual dinner which traditionally features the United States Marine Band, along with satirical musical skits by the members and remarks by the President of the United States and representatives of each political party. The skits and speeches by various politicians are expected to be self-deprecating or otherwise sharply comedic.

Couple that with the fact that Barney Frank is the Democratic invitee and the President usually also attends and I predict a nervous breakdown…or a Glenn Beck style appendicitis attack just prior to her turn.

I think one of the main reasons there is such great interest in a SP speech is because her appearances have been very rare since the campaign. Right now it’s just supply vs demand. It seems Palin or her handlers know they can keep interest high by limiting media exposure to her appearances. If she were giving lots of speeches and everyone got to hear more of her incoherent word salad, the criticism by the media and those bad bloggers would quickly put an end to her being a sought after speaker. The limited appearances and exclusion of the media is so she can milk it as long as possible.
