My bones hurt looking at that……

Some good news today…Lou Dobbs “resigned” CNN, effective immediately, his last broadcast today.

Hmmm….and Shannyn Moore is just getting started!! They’ve already started to clear the way…..Movin’ on up to the big times…lol Go Shannyn!

    Ode to Lou Dobbs………..

“What is truly disturbing is that we have become a country in which people are trying to control our political agendas, our social agendas, with political correctness. Trying to control thought, and of course speech, through political correctness. And I love the fact that you said something that is politically incorrect, but is absolutely factually correct. Mexico has become our enemy.”

On the April 14, 2005, edition of his show, Dobbs speculated on the possibility of leprosy in America, brought over by illegal aliens: “The invasion of illegal aliens is threatening the health of many Americans. Highly-contagious diseases are now crossing our borders decades after those diseases had been eradicated in this country.” Dobbs proceeded to speak with CNN correspondent Christine Romans, who said: “It’s interesting, because the woman in our piece told us that there were about 900 cases of leprosy for 40 years. There have been 7,000 in the past three years. Leprosy in this country.” Although this factoid was found to be completely false, in the video above, Dobbs relentlessly defends it.

“[S]hould he produce his birth certificate — the long form, the real deal? Should he be a little more forthcoming? … What is the deal here? I’m starting to think we have a — we have a document issue. Do you suppose he’s un — no, I won’t even use the word undocumented. It wouldn’t be right.”

“And tea-bagging queen Rachel Maddow over at MSNBC, she wanted another shot so apparently she twisted, she tried to twist my words. She ignored my statements on the issue. In other words, she was not being intellectually honest. Imagine that. [...] She lied. I never said I’m a ‘birther.’ I’m not. I don’t know how many times I’ve said, ‘Barack Obama is a citizen of the United States. Why not release your birth certificate?’ What is the big deal with saying that?”

“The limp-minded, lily-livered lefties, who by the way are also attacking me in concerted form, as I actually raise a question of this great president. I mean, think of this, I actually had the temerity to inquire as to where the birth certificate was and why the president of the United States would not turn over that birth certificate to the national media and end the noise.”

“I thought we had gotten rid of this left-wing pest for a while. But I guess he is just resurgent. He is a blood-sucking leftist. You have got to put a stake through his heart to stop this guy. So you have to give him credit for resilience even if he is a lefty.” (Howard Dean)

“I’m against Saint Patrick’s Day. I’m against St. Columbus Day. Saint Joseph’s Day. I’m against all of those things … How about an Asian ethnic holiday? Is there one? You know, a Saint Jin Tao Wow?”

If I understand it correctly, once it starts snowing in Alaska, you’re covered in it until Spring. Correct?

I live just west of Denver. Two weeks ago, we had a storm like that. We had 2 feet of snow on the ground, not drifts.

A week later I was raking leaves & using my lawn mower to mulch them into the grass. In a tee shirt & jeans.

There is no more beautiful place on earth than Alaska on a cold, snowy night with the Northern Lights glowing and no street lights are needed to see all around you. I’ve spent winters all over the US and the world and nothing compares.

I remember driving the Alcan in January of 1974 (yes, we were young, foolish, and brave!) and we were astounded at how SHORT the guardrails were, what with all the curves in the road, slick conditions, etc. And then it struck us – it wasn’t low guardrails, it was the build-up of packed ice and snow on the roads. Come spring when thaw starts, there will be ruts deep enough to drop a tire into and get stuck in, but that’s all part of the challenge of living in such a climate. It was an experience of a lifetime never to be regretted for one second.

    GreatGranny2CNo Gravatar says:

Trisha @8 – I hadn’t seen anything about Dobbs positively going to Fox, just a prior mention that he had met with Roger Ailes last month, so it wouldn’t be surprising. Another article yesterday mentioned that he’s being encouraged to run for governor of New Jersey, but as that election just took place, he’s got two years to fill with his hate speech in the meantime. I look to see him hooking up more with Beck and getting mixed in with Palin as well.

How the devil does he come to the conclusion that Obama is *dumping* illegals in Texas?
    http://politicalwire.com/archives/2009/11/12/perry_says_obama_hell-bent_on_socialism.html
Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) accused President Obama of “punishing” Texas and being “hell-bent” on turning the United States into a socialist country, reports Politico.
Said Perry: “This is an administration hell-bent toward taking American towards a socialist country. And we all don’t need to be afraid to say that because that’s what it is.”
Perry also accused the Obama administration of intentionally dumping illegal immigrants from other western states in Texas.

The PoliticalWire also has an article on Tom Tancredo – he’s considering running for governor of Colorado. He couldn’t get re-elected as a representative, he’s embarassed himself repeatedly on TV, most recently when he walked off the set with David Schuster, he’s heavily involved in Bay Buchanan’s anti-EVERYONE NOT WHITE group, and now he thinks he can run for this. I hope the Dems run a really good candidate against him and I’ll even dip into my piggy bank and make a donation.

Some conversation on here recently expressed concern that Huckabee isn’t to be trusted, and this latest story shows that he is improving in Republican circles……….the only good thing about it is that he beats out Palin!

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-11-11/huckabees-power-surge/?cid=bs:archive8

Mike Huckabee is the dark horse no longer. In a poll released last week of potential 2012 Republican candidates, Huckabee led the list with 40 percent of voters overall and 71 percent of Republicans who would seriously consider voting for him, followed by Mitt Romney (39/65 percent), Sarah Palin (33/65 percent), Newt Gingrich (29/60 percent), Tim Pawlenty (18/32 percent) and Haley Barbour (15/26 percent).

He has the highest rated weekend cable political show, he’s just published a new book, his PAC is flush and he’s on the stump campaigning for Republican candidates.

This is the rating so far – Good Grief – Scarborough and Santorum are also on the list!

    1. Mike Huckabee
    2. Mitt Romney
    3. Tim Pawlenty
    4. Sarah Palin
    5. Newt Gingrich
    6. John Thune

Thanks, GreatGranny2C (10): every state has at least one skeleton in the closet. Most of us wish Tancredo would get back in and close the door- Halloween is over. He might run, but the Republican candidate McInnis already is negotiating to get his strong primary opponent to bow out, so Tancredo is full of hot air.

I rarely go over the Palin’s FB but there was a mention of her latest on the coin change, so I did look. Here’s her take on – SHE didn’t say anything wrong, the media distorted her again – shame on them! Here’s what she said:

It is stunning to read and hear about this “coin controversy.” At a recent speech in Milwaukee I discussed the troubling fact that we too often move God to the side in our public life, and gave as an example the shift of the words “In God We Trust” to the edge of the dollar coin. My comments were not about this President or this Congress – this change predated them. I was merely making a point about a disturbing trend in our country, after which I moved on to discuss some encouraging trends. People who try to read more into such straightforward comments are working hard to find a controversy where there is none. – Sarah Palin

“Palin said she was going to focus on her book tour through December, but planned to turn to politics and helping party candidates starting in January. Her aide, Jason Recher, another former Bush aide, asked Walker what kind of help he would like from Palin. Walker pointed out that the state’s late primary and the likelihood that the White House would raise a lot of campaign cash for its side meant he needed help as soon as possible next year. Walker urged Palin to come on board and do an event with him in the state’s Fox Valley area.”

    My rebuttal:

    1. You never mentioned it was a Republican Congress and President who made that decision.

    2. You also asked during your speech, in reference to the coin change “Who makes that decision?” – if you knew it was predated, presumably, you knew it was President Bush who made that decision. If you didn’t know who made the decision – why bring it up in the first place? Do you not have another example with some facts to back it up?

    3. You mentioned you got this example from “a friend” – again, did you attempt to fact check the example before using it at a public speaking engagement?

    4. You decry “non-controversies”. I quite agree. Do you think then, that you should retract your claim that the current health care bill would lead to “death panels” and would lead to seniors and the disabled to be euthanized? There has been no evidence of this and several independent fact checking organisations have concluded these claims are false. Are you going to retract your claims now that they have turned out to be a non-controversy?

    5. Do you think this “non-controversy” could have avoided had the event been open to the Press with a Q&A session afterwards to ensure that your thoughts and intentions were clear?

    6. Fox News fact checked your claims and the implication that the current administration was behind the coin change. Fox News noted in their program, correctly, that the change was made in 2005 by President Bush. Do you think Fox News is contributing to the “non controversy”?

    7. Do you acknowledge that by not specifically stating that the change was enacted by a Republican congress and President – you contributed to the implication that it was about the current President? Especially since in your last public speaking engagement in HK you did in fact criticize the President and his policies.

I’m a Christian and I am against religion in government. It’s inherently biased towards one group of people who have made a personal choice for their religious belief. I don’t think democracy is best served in the form of a Theocracy – Christian or Muslim or otherwise.

Government should remain secular so as to be fair and equitable for all. Why should one group of people be considered when it comes to rules and laws while another group isn’t, simply because of what they believe in?

let me clarify a bit, sorry – faith based government employees and politicians should act according to their conscience and what they believe in. However – I think overall, it is dangerous for legislation that affect an entire country to be determined on religious grounds especially considering the Religious Right in this country and their penchant for Big Business with No Government Oversight. It clearly hasn’t worked.

On social issues, I think it’s important to vote your conscience however – seeing what has come out of the healthcare and immigration debate – it’s clear that people can twist all manner of lies and distortions into something that is “from God”. Further proving that something as subjective and personal as religious belief should not be a part of governing a country.

It was a very ‘ busy & interesting ‘ Day yesterday at CNN.
Lou Dobb’s leaving immediately….I guess when you ratings keep you in 4th Place the public has spoken and you should be listening to them.

Just 2 hours later Missy Carrie Prejean has a hissy fit when she goes on Larry King to shill her book. She said her publicist had arranged the interview for her and she would not be taking caller questions. She got miffed. A caller, who was gay, got through and posed the question ( paraphrasing here )… Since there are so many gay people who worked with You backstage/behind the scenes ala hair and make-up to help you win the pageant and look good… don’t you think you are being sort of a hypocrite? ( She was not happy )
I think at this point was where she started taking off the mic and was ready to walk off the set. ( She’s learned from Sarah well…. same MO… I have rules)
Gee… She just doesn’t like to answer questions..? First Perez Hilton… and now these Callers…?
I don’t watch CNN, But I tuned in to see what the controversy was because the story was on the internet and they repeat 2 hours later on the West Coast.

The BEST part….which might have even been better was that A Cooper talked about Carrie’s temper tantrum on his Show with Erica Hill.
They sort of asked each other ” What was going on there ?” and then discussed it between themselves… showing parts of Larry King and Carrie and the partial clips. They pretty much said she acted like a ‘ spoiled child ‘ and the looks on their faces told the story as well. They got a little snarky there. They reported that Carrie kept telling Larry King MORE than once… ” You are being inappropriate ” ,directed at L King. And they emphasized ” inappropriate ” with some voice inflection. ( Asking a question… but without asking… What does THAT mean?) And she was refusing to answer the questions directed to her.
And Anderson posed the question to Erica…” At least she was SMILING the whole time ?” ( sarcasm )…. and then followed it up with “The smile had sort of turned into a frown there at the end… sort of a half smile”
Maybe the A. Cooper and Erica Hill discussion/segment will be on YouTube or on CNN. I really enjoyed it. They showed everybody the REAL Carrie Prejean.

Carrie and Sarah look at interviews the same way. If they don’t like the questions…. they feel they shouldn’t have to answer them…. or whine.
I wonder if Carrie will be doing a Book tour signing…. LIKE Sarah’s.

There’s a lot of variability to late autumn in Anchorage. It was a bit unusual that it didn’t snow at all in Anchorage till Sunday, and with yesterday’s blizzard-like conditions (the temp was actually a warmish 31f) it really looks like icy & snowy streets till April. It’s unusual for the 1st snow to have durability about it that this years does. I put on my studded tires on Saturday.

    Also re: Oprah snippets.

    1) Her voice is very high pitched – she is nervous, not really comfortable with those questions. Compare to the Ziegler interviews. We’re talking about a major third higher, and that in a speaking voice is a lot. I will tentatively say it’s because she is nervous that everything she says will have to match (and/or nor contradict) what’s in the book, and since she has a habit of having several different versions of stories, she has to really concentrate to remember which one she put in the book.

    2) After the book is released, named McCain staffers, if they feel maligned and misrepresented, may come forward with their versions of what really happened.

    3) SP has apparently decided not to talk bad about Levi on the tour and in interviews. ‘Cause that’s good PR. It’s possible Rex and Tank advised Levi to ramp up the ‘go to court’ rhetoric just at this point to see if they can get her to blow up and show her true colors or be caught in an outright contradiction with something in print in the book.

    4) I had extra memory put in my new Mac, but I don’t think even that is going to be able to handle the volume of Gack I’m going to have to feed into my “Sara Palin What I Really Meant” translation software while she’s on this book tour that is, quite frankly, pathetic. But, HC knows what its got, and where it WON’T sell, and that’s all very telling. I have nothing against Real Americans who shop at Sam’s Club. But if Sarah is so great for America, she should be signing her books in Sam’s Clubs in Muleshoe, Tennessee, IN ADDITION TO large chain bookstores in Boston and San Francisco and other major markets, not IN PLACE OF.

    5) Willow and Piper came with you. Really? You had them out of school how long last year, and now, how long will it be this year? Why? WHY? How are their grades? So far, you haven’t had one of five kids graduate from regular old high school. Are you paying attention to Willow’s progress? How are her grades?
