Abandon Truth All Ye Who Enter Here…
“Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here”
Dante Alleghieri, about Hell
“Abandon Truth All Ye Who Enter Here”
Me, about this:
Well, I hope they file this sucker in the fiction section or they’re going to have some ‘splainin to do!
I read a couple weeks ago, when the announcement was made that Going Rogue was going to be released months early, but that they still had to do the final edits and fact checking. Anyone who’s been paying attention to Sarah Palin got a good chuckle out of that one. Fact checking Palin’s memoir? It almost sounds like a word problem for 8th grade math.
If Harper Collins has a team of five fact checkers, and they work for 10 hours a day, and it takes 18 hours to fact check the average page, and her memoir is 400 pages long, when will the book be ready to go to print? (tap tap tap on calculator) If they take weekends off (and who wouldn’t have to?) that would be 36 weeks. Obviously, THAT didn’t happen, so we are left to do the dirty work ourselves. This is good news and bad news for Sarah Palin. The good news for her is that she gets to bask in the warm rosy glow of attention from the media she hates, but the bad news is that the news is not going to be good. The last time the media was left with the job of investigating Palin, it didn’t turn out too well for the then candidate.
Already news organizations and alert journalists and writers are picking apart the excerpts of Going Rogue that have been made available to the press today. Geoffrey Dunn, who is writing a book on Palin already has “The First Ten Lies from Going Rogue” on The Huffington Post.
Not surprisingly the first lie is right on the cover. No point drawing things out and making us wait.
1) The Cover Byline: Palin didn’t write the book by herself. Most books with known ghostwriters list their co-author’s name on the cover. In this case it was Lynn Vincent (a well-known homophobe). Going Rogue does not.
Other fact checkers include AP News, who gave a detailed breakdown of claims and the facts that refute them HERE. They do say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s that article summed up for you in one handy visual.
This book is going to keep Andrew Sullivan busy for months.
But let me just say that my first objection comes even before the first lie. She had me until “Rogue.” That’s right, she was able to write one whole word (Going) before the first head bang moment. I wrote a blog post a while back about the ugly irony of the book title, and talked about it on the Rachel Maddow Show. It is also the subject of the essay I wrote for the book “Going Rouge – An American Nightmare.” The book contains essays by many others whom anyone would be proud to hang out in a book with – like Jim Hightower, Max Blumenthal, Naomi Klein, Joe Conason, Jane Hamsher, Mike Taibbi, Shannyn More and a host of others. They’re stuck between the covers with me, and they can’t get out. (I flash you a sinister smile, and rub my hands together like a fly)
And just to give you all a smattering of what you can expect from that “other book” that you’ll actually WANT to buy, you’ll be seeing some excerpts of Going Rouge up on The Huffington Post this weekend, including my essay, which I hope you will enjoy. The whole book will be available on November 16, and only available on line HERE.
Brace yourself. Between the interview on Oprah, Going Rouge, and Going Rogue, Palin is going to be back in the spotlight this week with a vengeance, like it or not. So, grab yourself an adult beverage or a cup of tea, and some popcorn and snuggle in. Because you’ll have only two options – buy yourself a ticket to an uninhabited island, or make the best of it and jump in.

go forth with a vengence, akm.
we’re behind every single step of the way.
Gonna need that life preserver — just saw a promo for next week’s 20/20 with Palin being interviewed by Barbara Walters.
behind “you” every step of the way.
Oh and BTW, thanks in advance for reading it so we don’t have to…
(or buying it for that matter…)
Ugh. I think I’ll dive back into the archives at the British Library and finish my Phd in medieval and early modern European history. That should keep me busy. Plus, I don’t think they’ll allow me to bring my blackberry in with me.
I consider Palin’s re-emergence on the public stage as a renewed opportunity to mock her self-serving and self-centered stupidity.
We have just witnessed the most public political equivalent to suicide of our generation.
The AP’s fact-check at HuffPo tore her apart, and there will be more to come as you rightly point out.
She is once again, in her hubris, her own worst enemy.
If Palin is going to have any future in politics, it won’t be with the Republican party. They don’t do rogue. They are into obedience.
AKM, Please go to HP and review your most recent post. It has a major date error in it.
You have August of 2009 as her intro date…it was August 2008!
Hopefully, it can be corrected at HP as well as before Going Rouge is printed/released.
Ahh, A good post for Friday the thirteen, for sure. Facts? Truth? Don’t let those details get in the way of a true rags to riches story.

Another great write-up………you DO have a wonderful way with words! I hope there will be more and more comments in the next day or so and that it will move further forward. Someone made a nasty comment about Begich being at Elmendorf and another rebutted it and it sounded good to me.
I was astounded watching Chris Matthews this evening. That guy has got it baaaaaaaaad for Palin and he hopes she will run in 2012. I don’t think he can see past her winking and pageant walking. He even had a guy on that wrote a book defending her against the terrible media bashing. He continued with the blame game – everyone else’s fault except Palins.
I’m glad a few from the McCain camp were able to get some rebuttals and laughs out before McCain put the kibosh on their speaking. I will eagerly wait to see if that changes once he reads the book (or someone verbally reviews it for him) and he decides enough is enough.
Her fans are livid that the reviews are so *hateful* and full of lies, reinforcing their (and her) view that the MSM is scared to death of her……….. scared? They just don’t get it and will believe anything.
Sweet..lies, lies, and more lies…LMB0
AKM..Thanks for the headzup on HP..Have a great wknd…
A summary of Sarah Palin’s book: I didn’t do it and if I did, it was their fault.
Honestly – I have never in my (admittedly) short life seen anyone so adept at blame shifting on absolutely every last aspect of her life, public or private.
And it’s only the beginning, there’s more Palin lies to come. Hold me.
good lord….18 hours to fact check one page????
I saw two pages at Wonkette.
That’s some big type on those pages….
I just ordered my copy of “Going Rouge”
Not going to bother with “Going Rogue”, especially since AKM is “taking one for the team”.
Watched a clip from Oprah’s interview: Palin laugh is so forced…she never answered the question about inviting Levi for Thanksgiving dinner. If SP can’t respond to that, how could she answer presidential-type questions?
Off to put a six pack of Fat Tire in the frig, and warm up the Stir Crazy…I’m going to need a lot of popcorn.
Lol..I loved the AP Fact Checking article and your essay, which totally nailed it. Now that her book is out she is fair game and everyone is coming out and calling her lies! I was quite impressed with AP’s fact checking. It makes me think and hope they have been paying attention and they know what is going on with this crazy lady.
I was wondering when you were going to comment. You probably did not want to tarnish your keyboard after writing such nice things about President Obama’s visit yesterday.
The woman is toast. Everyone has been tearing her up. HA the book has not even been released yet.
Congrats to ALL of you wonderful bloggers, this is your moment. As far as 20/20 next week, this story will be old by next Friday.
To Levi and family, come out of the darkness, she can’t hurt you anymore. To the Wighead..shame on you.
We know you read these blogs.
Her new ‘doo made her look like, well…..a shrub.
We don’t need another shrub, do we?
BigSlick @19….naaaaaw. Shrubs are over-rated.
I think her comments about the Supreme Court decision regarding Exxon are my favorite so far. What she says literally makes no sense given that she’s from Alaska. I’m sure all those who live near the sound are going to be pissed at that one.
I wonder what the final public relations coup de grace will be next week. I don’t think Palin’s fledgling reputation can take much more idiocy. But then I could be wrong…
This makes my teeth hurt.
Someone over at Regina’s blog had mentioned what she wrote in the Foreward of it thanking certain people… by first name only. These were obviously the
” good Media “… she was Thanking.
One of these names was R.A.M. from the other site. What was it that RAM did do deserve this honor and mention in the Book..?
Was it just all those inspiring, motivational stories she wrote about her..?
Was it for working the Beg-a-Thon and emptying the pockets of her Bots?
Or… as some had suggested has she been Ghostwriting all of those Facebook Notes and letting Sarah take the credit for them? {That was one theory }
( She is doing or has done SOMETHING for Sarah…. to receive this Award) Hmm?
All this controversy already… and the Book release is STILL 3 days away.
And the early story releases have no mention of the ” Fire David Letterman Campaign” in the Book. How could THAT not be in there?? Was it not book worthy in her mind ( NOT a chance)… or did the Lawyers make her take it out.
For some great snark and pixs http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/11/13/804203/-Fact-Checking-Palins-Book
…GreatGranny…. I saw Chris Matthews also today… I took his remarks about Scarah as being sarcastic, especially the blame bit…. looked to me like he was letting the guest Palin supporter he had on hang himself, with Chris sort of tipping the footstool to help the guy dangle……
HIG @23 – Could R.A.M. be that Rebecca Mansur (sp?) that I’ve seen mentioned before?
benlomond2 @25 – You may be correct on Matthews being sarcastic. He simply devotes so much time to her so often, he’s a confirmed Republican, and it is beginning to look like he’s unable to hide his partisan politics on certain issues.
GreatGranny2C @ 26…..
Yes, Rebecca ManSour is the same person. She used her initials, RAM for short , when she would write stories for ‘ that site .
One day she suddenly stopped posting and and all mention of her was scrubbed from the Site. Word was she was working for Sarah in some capacity.
Whine, whine, whine – this is NOT what a real Alaskan does. Sarah Palin herself said that politics is ‘rough and tumble’ It appears that she is not up for the game and so she quit, got out and is now whining about it. GROW UP, for Pete’s sake. You lost, so get over it.
Worse yet, she seems to be telling bald-faced lies in her book. I am so glad she is not our governor anymore
What will Palin’s follow-up book be entitled? Bonfire for My Vanity?
@27 sauerkraut – Rimshot!
I posted this on another thread – we saw the book on display in the book section at Publix on THURSDAY night. I couldn’t bring myself to pick it up, even for a look.
Pathological liars and fact checkers- not a happy combination. One of the dumbest things I have seen so far is the crazy attack on Katie Couric, which shows what a vindictive person Sarah is, and re-emphasizes those disasterous interviews, which convinced everyone but the Sarah cult that she was a ditz.
It should go in the cooking section for the healthy self-serving of wine and cheese.
Nice one, Sauerkraut!

Thanks for tossing in the life ring, AKM…
I’m going to look into that uninhabited island option…
GreatGrannyC2; I totally agree with Chris Mattews. He’s still got that chill up his leg with her, and in his stupor moment, builts her up to be some viable presidential candidate, giving her compliments one way or another. And David Gregory, the same. I scratch my head wondering why they dillydally with the truth about $arah.
I think MSNBC, like other networks, won’t admit it, but they can’t seem to find fault with a pretty woman. They go all jello on us. They buy it line, hook and sinker that she must be a full package of maternal, loving, compassionate, independent woman all rolled into the “Enjoli” woman, ad in the 60′s or 70′s for hair color……the one where she sings, “I can bring home the bacon, then fry it in the pain, and at the end of the day, make you feel like a man”……(don’t know if I got that right).
Seems like it’s a new day, where bloggers are the true journalists, vetting politicians from local areas. I really think the cable news companies are losing their reliability, and trust with the public. Too much inconsistency.
‘Enjoli’ was a perfume, and now I have that jingle going full viral brain-worm, tyvm rebekkah!
Hey, that’d be a good title for $P’s follow-up book, “Going Viral Brain-worm: Frazzling America’s Last Nerve”
Since even the sound of this bag of rat droppings voice makes my skin crawl, I’ve chosen the easy way out..Most any dentist will prescribe a GREAT regiment of HEAVY pain killers and your regular doc should feel almost obligated this week to be handing out prescriptions for Ambien, you can always sleep thru the whole thing if you choose. You’ll probably have more fun and will definitely NOT have a headache at the end of the week.
OR, you can be a little wild and crazy but it’s sometimes VERY dangerous to follow Dave Letterman’s lead on things to do that are more fun that reading the SP short story….he has segments and suggestions about two-three times a week…
OR, as most folks do, ignore this whole thing like the complete waste of time it is,,,,,,
She makes her way into print in other ways:
In a review of “The Fourth Kind” film in Milwaukee’s ‘alternate weekly”
the Shepherd Express:
It’s a good and open-ended plot, set amid the drk woods and
rainy sky of remote Nome, a city plagued in reality by depression
and alcoholism. Are the area’s many unsolved murders and
disappearances the result of aliens, the dispiriting climate
or Sarah Palin? As [Mila] Jovovich intones at the onset:
you decide.
[No offense to Nome.. just the Midwestern take on a place
with more
winter than we have, I think.]
Prediction: This book (if that is what one must call it) will be on the discount racks well before Christmas. Sales will spike as a result of purchases by those on the far right who love her, then quickly taper off into nothingness. She is not an in-depth thinker, and has led an unremarkable life. Nothing truly interesting to read.
sourkrout @ 27: you rock
I saw some excerpts on another site, and had to laugh because there’s a quote where she’s blaming Nicolle Wallace for talking her into the Katie Couric interview, but in the quote she admits that Wallace had more experience with national politics than she did, so she went along with Wallace’s idea. So – she’s admitting she has less qualification for higher office than a campaign staffer.
Hilarious!
At another point she relates how she went around the backs of the McCain staff, who’d instructed her not to talk to the press – she claims she contacted someone in Alaska to get her the phone numbers of Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. etc. so she could sneak some calls to them.
What a great recommendation for her team-work skills and ability to stem leaks!
I don’t know what’s more pathetic, either – her willingness to stab her team in the back that early in the campaign, or the fact that she didn’t already know how to get ahold of Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.
Thanks for the great links, again, AKM! (rhyme; heh heh)
I just had a CREEPY thought. When a movie about Anita Bryant comes around, Palin will be picked as the main character. After all, they have the same jaw line, eyes, lips, hair, anti-gay attitude. How spooky is that?
“Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here”
Dante Alleghieri, about Hell
——————————-
Good quote usage, AKM, but whether Truth or Hope……reading SP’s book would still be Hell to me.
Yeah she got me going at “rogue” too.
If rogue is the new “good and righteous” what will she call all thoses nations that don’t fall lock and step with the American imperial agenda?
If anyone out there is actually planning to buy this book, don’t!!!!!!!
It will only encourage her.
If anyone does, please read it fast and pass it around so others won’t be tempted to buy a copy to findout what all the laughter is about.
Plus with so many blogs that will be doing commentary on it you should be able to assemble the complete printed ramblings of the rogue with lipstick in excerpts form.
Or better yet, maybe William Shattner will do a reading on tape of the insanity on paper of the rogue’s brain.
With the high cost of natural gas & heating fuel and the lack of progress to change that–thank you sarah palin–perhaps the vast majority of this wasted pulp can be salvaged and used in a heating program for some third world nation; like America–thank you gw bush, al gore, john kerry, and all the supporting players in Washington who sat back and watched it coming and then bailout all those that caused it. Both those active participants and those that sat around wringing thier hands saying “whoa are we don’t have the vote against so we must vote “for” least it will haunt my reelection bid.” Many of those are now sitting around still bemoaning but now the wails are “we need 60!!! Senator Lieberman what can we do for you!!!”
Two other books coming out the same day are both titled
“Going Rouge” one is a coloring and activity book.
Clearly the publisher did no fact checking. One minor point- the McCain staffer who supposedly told Sarah to do the Kouric interview to help with Katie’s low self esteem- who could possibly believe that?
Sarah is simply a pathological liar who will say anything she thinks will cause someone to react as she wants them to react, with no regard for the truth, for verifiable facts or for what Sarah said yesterday.
\Probably due to her good looks, Sarah has gotten away with lying for her entire life, and it will be interesting to see her reaction at being fact checked by the mainstream media, which previously gave her carte blanche.
David Letterman’s “Things More Fun Than Reading Sarah Palin’s Memoir”

LOL!
DD
Thomas Higgins Throw Lieberman to the wolves he can’t be trusted by either party and has certainly shown that he should not have been allowed to keep his chairs.,Take them away
Nice quote, but Dante’s family name is Alighieri. I’m sure he would have put Sarah in the Tenth Pouch of the Eighth Circle of Hell, with the Falsifiers of Words, or… Liars.
P.S. Thank you so much for your great blog
