@Cronopio – I’m curious to know more of what Cokie said. It won’t matter to her base or to her sales if it was untruthful.

The Today Show emphasized the parts of the book that were written to get back at the McCain staff. Stephen Schmidt(?) is mentioned and quoted. It pointed out a few inconsistencies: for example, in the book she rips Obama for the bailout, and they show video of her VP debate where she encourages people to get on board with the bailout. There is a clip from a Sunday show, where Hillary Clinton is asked about the comment “I’d like to sit and have a cup of coffee with Hillary”. On the Sunday show, Hillary basically laughs, and says “Sure!”. They quote a section of the book where she talks about how she wishes the reporters who were in AK (for her resigning-from-office announcement) would have gotten ‘slimed’ – something about getting wet while out in the boat, and seeing her in her natural element, the capable outdoors woman. Andrea Mitchell is doing the report, and her voice is just about dripping with sarcasm.

Sarah Palin is truly the gift that keeps on giving (laughter that is). More than a year down the track since I started reading AKM’s blog and I still get a laugh reading about all her antics. Can’t believe that she has managed to keep herself in the spotlight for so long and that people are still paying attention to what she has to say in that folksy word-salad eye-winky way.

Well now here’s something new on the Palin news trail:

Christian Group Questions Palin’s Pro-Life Credentials:

A political 527 group, which claims responsibility for derailing Mitt Romney’s presidential hopes in 2008 in the early-contest states of Iowa and South Carolina, is now targeting Sarah Palin. But for what?

ProlifeProfiles.com, created by a nationwide research team working for American Right To Life, is being launched today highlighting Sarah Palin’s surprisingly extensive and unflattering record on abortion.

It’s past time to declare war on a rising danger that (semi-geographically) is in Alaska’s neck of the woods.

Ever heard of the Discovery Institute> It’s been a busy little political player lately, so I looked it up. Found a couple of descriptions. First one from a rather bitter pair of boots on the ground:

If you don’t know about the Discovery Institute (www.discovery.org), you should. The short short story: The Discovery Institute is a pro-creationist (“Intelligent Design”) think tank heavily supported by ultra-right wing funds, cheerfully located at Union and 4th in downtown Seattle. They dish out the same rewarmed, widely discredited creationist bullshit that the right wing christians have tried to cram into schoolchildren for decades now. They’ve been all too successful as of late.

So far as I can tell, the Discovery Institute is based in Seattle to give it some sort of “fair and balanced” street cred, I.e.:”If they are creationists based successfully in Seattle, that den of godless sodomy and liberalism, they must be onto something.” As a *real* life scientist in Seattle, (as opposed to a neo-christian philosopher from Arkansas, planted in our city and pretending to be a life scientist) this just pisses me off.

As a community well respected for its rationality, scientific prowess and intelligence, we have a responsibility to disown drivel such as this being distributed in our name. Consider this a call to arms.

Well, that was one educated and PO’d man’s opinion. Maybe something with a little more meat to it, hmm? New York Times, you got anything?

After toiling in obscurity for nearly a decade, pushing a “teach the controversy” approach to evolution, the Discovery Institute has emerged in recent months as the backbone behind sucessful skirmishes over science education in school districts and state capitals across the country. The debate is no longer about teaching religion during biology class; it has been warped into an issue of academic freedom.

Financed by the same Christian conservatives who helped Bush win the White House, the organization’s intellectual core is a scattered group of philosophical scholars who adhere to the explanation of life’s origins known as intelligent design. This fringe “academic” movement has been given a carefully crafted, poll-tested message, lively Web logs — and millions of dollars. In January the Institute hired the same Beltway public relations firm that promoted the Contract With America in 1994.

“We are in the very initial stages of a scientific revolution,” said the center’s director, Stephen C. Meyer, 47, a historian and philosopher. Mr. Meyer’s background is not in hard science, and his reputation as a spokesman for the educational sciences is also suspect.

More student of politics than science geek, the institute’s president, Bruce K. Chapman, a Reagan conservative, embraced the evolution controversy as the institute’s signature issue precisely because of its unpopularity in the scientific and educational establishments. “When someone says there’s one thing you can’t talk about, that’s what I want to talk about.”

More philosophical worldview than scientific hypothesis, intelligent design challenges Darwin’s theory of natural selection by arguing that some organisms are too complex to be explained by evolution alone, thus pointing to the possibility of supernatural influences. While acceptance of the existence of God appeals instinctively to the religiously faithful, evidence of evolution is accepted only as academically unavoidable, for the present.

The theory of intelligent design is untestable in either field or laboratories; less so than psychic phenomena and ectoplasmic interactions. This is just one of the many reasons intelligent design is contested as a viable subject in hard science classes.

So, there ya go. Poorly educated and politically influenced “scholars” are being funded and backed in order to trump hard-core scientists by killing off their natural successors. And isn’t that what evolution is all about, really?

Time for all the moms & dads to start paying attention in school, and doing their homework. There are really only three important things to remember about education, guys:

    Curriculum, curriculum, curriculum.

I was away for a few days and will be catching up on all the blowback from the Palin book, but from the little bits I saw this morning on the news, ouch! It’s going to get ugly! David Brooks even dissed Palin as a wanna be talk show host. You know it must be bad if the right wing-nuts are even ripping the book. (With the exceptions of the Newt and Rushbo, of course.)

However, I also saw Katrina vanden Heuvel on the news this morning talking about the actual and factual Palin book that we all REALLY want to read, Going Rouge with AKM & Shannyn Moore, etc., am I right? That one I look forward to! Congrats to AKM again, and my personal condolences for the task of actually reading Palin’s book in order to review it for the rest of us who won’t, a truly painful endeavor as I’m sure it will be!

That has got to be the biggest joke of the year, how she’s using facebook as her UNFILTERED way to speak directly to people. Really, lol. Who could possibly buy that load of baloney.

I’m also curious, who taped Carries sex scenes while she was supposedly alone? Her tattoo covered scary looking brother? ick. Her liberal sister? ick.

And Scarah asked Carrie to befriend Bristol. They’ve had many phone conversations. Good grief, what did they talk about? How abstinence can be sexy? How to look at things through a strangely filtered Christian lens? I’m curious, but also concerned for Bristol. What a terrible idol to be getting advice and support from.

What should that say about Scarah’s mothering instincts and skills to be base? It should scream, wait a minute, step back and look deeper into Scarah’s real world.

    The Palin grassroots
Sarah Palin, on her Facebook page, gives what I think may be her first formal recognition of the formidable grassroots that has largely made up for her total lack of a political operation.

Palin is responding to an unusually harsh takedown from the Associated Press of her book, which does, I think, at times blend the notions of fact-checking and analysis.

    She writes:

We’ll keep setting the record straight, and we’ll keep reminding some in the media that Americans are very tired of their non-objective reporting. A great, recent post that accomplishes this is a Conservatives4Palin post. It’s got some nice fact checking included. Yes, I think it’s really a cowardly ploy that she’s used her children so often to “hide behind” in interviews. Who’s gonna’ hit her up with hard questions in front of her darling daughters?

Also, I think many may have forgotten (or not noticed) that Palin attempted to begin that infamous interview with Couric with Piper trailing after them. Katy even commented “oh, is Piper joining us?” (approx). By the end of the interview Piper was no longer visible, so I presume someone with a brain must have removed her from the group. But I believe it was her disgusting intention to use Piper to soften the interview. No news, we all know she is shameless, but the gall is still outrageous.

Laprofesora; yes, to me, Sarah uses her children as “shields”. Of course it’s to block the interviewer from asking personal questions, about relationship to Todd, or Levi. I also think she has a need to project that she is a attentive mother. Though, most attentive mothers do that at home. Maybe she is never home, so the only attention she gives them is done on her publicity tours.

This week should almost be like the Apollo missions in the late 60′s, early 70′s. Everyone was tuned into the tv – every spare minute. One could say this has to be with “space” too. It’s an “out-there” phenomenon. Gonna be interesting.

Then, yep, as OMG posted, the politicsdaily site link spells it out. Run in the primary for 2012, get all those nice folks to vote for her and win in primaries that are “take all”. She doesn’t have to win a majority of the voters to win the Republican primary for president. They are a bit different than the Democratic party in their primaries.

She can even run as a third party if the Republicans were to change the primary rules on her. Watch for that prior to 2012 to see if the insiders are going to try to stop her. Other thing to watch for is how many moderates get booted out of the primaries in the 2010 election. If they go, then she could take the Republican primary easily.

Then it will be Obama vs Palin.

Frankly I think there has to be a right wing nut job to make a run and be defeated before the Republicans will ever be able to move back to letting the moderates be a part of the party again. Till then, it’s Palin up to bat. (and I don’t even watch baseball!)

CNN Poll: Most Americans say Palin not qualified to serve as President
    Posted: November 16th, 2009 01:27 PM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Fewer than three in 10 Americans think Sarah Palin’s qualified to be president, according to a new national poll – the least of any of the five potential candidates included in the survey.

But another woman tops that list in the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday: two-thirds of the public thinks that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s qualified for the Oval Office. That’s more than Vice President Joe Biden, who’s currently next in line for the presidency.

Bubbles, it wasn’t really my thought either. After reading several sites over the weekend and then the politicsdaily today, that was what I got out of it. The one thing I forgot to mention is some urging from players within the teaparty movement (including Dick Amrey leader of Freedom Works) that Palin get actively involved in the tea party organization. Giving free speeches to win them over to vote for her.
It is already noted that she is suppose to be a keynote speaker in Febuary (I think) in Nashville at the tea party convention.
I just started today trying to compile a list of what some are urging her to do on the road to the nomination and see if she does and how soon.
The idea is that she needs to get out and meet and greet the people she is going to be urging to vote for her and not stay behind the facebook site completely. Although they note that facebook has had a huge out reach with both her fan base and evangelicals.
The idea being that people are made to feel that each one has a singular connection with her as a person, one who is on their side. Facebook is building on that connection to both old and new supporters.

Read the entry at Wikipedia on Liz Cheney and her comments become clearer – she is testing the public reaction to voicing her own aspirations to the Presidency.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liz_Cheney

“In October 2009 Liz Cheney, William Kristol, and Deborah Burlingame launched, as board members, a non-profit 501(c)4 organization, Keep America Safe, with the mission of destabilizing the incumbent Democratic president’s foreign policy. Staffed predominantly by former staffers of John McCain’s presidential campaign, the group collects donations and data about contributors and visitors to its website, and reserves the right to share that data with unspecified “third parties.” ”

That quote about destabilizing the current foreign policy is TREASON, as in aiding & abetting the enemy.

I’m not going to watch the Opera interview, I’ll find it later.

But I did listen to an excerpt that apparently won’t be on tv, Scarah said ya know I’m a journalist and that she’s been journaling all her life, and I give Oprah credit for delving into that a little, saying really, when did you start, Scarah points towards piper, they pan camera on her, and says since before Pipers age, okay, how old is Piper?

Went on how she and her sister ‘just recently’ got out their little girl diaries and opened them with their little girl keys, to discover how she’d written about hunting expeditions and stacking firewood as a chore to heat the house…….

Well, sounds like she had ‘this little story’ ready, and if she’s like any other little girl she started one and didn’t stick with it. I’d love to see what Scarah wrote in her little girl locked up diaries. It was probably her older sister that did this and Scarah’s borrowing memories from her.

Yep, Scarah was ready with ‘stories’…….but with Scarah it’s always half truths and delusional thinking.

I’d don’t think Oprah threw any curve balls, like, what do you think about your friend Carrie Prejean. So, we’ll see if Barbara Walters can dig deeper. Scarah hasn’t said anything about her yet, I don’t think anyway. Her saying Oprah was gracious and enjoyable may have been a shot across the bow asking Barbara show her the same treatment.

    Very interesting link, BuffaloGal.

We progressives can work relentlessly to expose Palin’s many flaws and hypocrisies but her adoring base will rarely listen to reason and facts.

No….Palin’s actual demise as a public “leader” will ultimately come from inside her own base. This Christian group who questions Palin’s Pro-Life credentials, for example, has the power to peel off more supporters in her base than any progressive criticism.

If you haven’t checked out BuffaloGal’s excellent link above, take a look……it contains the seeds of Palin’s own base’s disillusionment with her. Once they start examining Palin with their own strict criteria, her hypocrisy and slavish devotion to political expedience will become obvious.
