Open Thread – Mudflats 2010 Calendar!

17 11 2009

Well, it’s taken me way longer than it should have, but I have finally gotten together a 2010 Mudflats calendar! Thanks to everyone for your kind feedback and suggestions that I make one. It features 12 images from Southcentral Alaska, all landscapes. I am trying to get together a couple more calendars but at the rate I’m going, I decided it’s best to get this one up immediately, now that it’s finally done!

Denali

January – Paradise Valley, Anchorage
February – Aialik Glacier, Aialik Bay
March – McHugh Peak, Anchorage
April – Near Rabbit Lake, Anchorage
May – Anchorage Hillside
June – Thumb Cove, Resurrection Bay
July – Denali from Trapper Creek (Above)
August – Perry Island, Prince William Sound
September – Resurrection Trail near Cooper Landing
October – The Mudflats in Hope (The full image in the blog header)
November – Hope
December – The Mudflats from the Anchorage Hillside

About half of the images have been posted on the blog at one time or another, if I remember correctly.

[Thanks to Mudflatter Lisa for launching the Mudflats Shop and to Mona Lisa for doing the cover!]

So glad you did this AKM – and especially that you included the mudflats. What’s the brown/red stuff in the foreground on that picture?

    Beach grass. AKM

The Calendar is Here!! Christmas shopping shall commence! Really love the photo choices. They’re all wonderful but there were two that especially caught me. (can’t remember which months tho) Thanks for putting this together.

Saw $’P’s FB post of yesterday. Is she rising to a new level of narcissim and beginning to slip in and out of referring to herself in the 3rd person or do we have a ghostwriter’s slip?

*** The choice of photo for the cover of this week’s Newsweek is unfortunate. When it comes to Sarah Palin, this “news” magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant. The Runner’s World magazine one-page profile for which this photo was taken was all about health and fitness – a subject to which I am devoted and which is critically important to this nation. The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, gender, or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention – even if out of context.
    - Sarah Palin***

(judge a book by its gender? Should I be saying, “That ‘Going Rogue’, she is a book full of lies, distortions and whining, she is. ” ?? )

Can anyone translate what this means?? When did books evolve into sentient beings with gender or color of skin???

Anti-Abortion Group to Protest Palin…………(no, not kidding…this is just too rich)

When Palin hits Indiana to tout her book, pro-lifers will be out in force—because they don’t believe she’s one of them.

ARTL has given Palin a “Tier 4″ designation that lumps her in with other allegedly fake pro-lifers like Romney, George W. Bush, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and Rep. Ron Paul. Tier 4 members “use the pro-life title but deny the personhood and God-given right to life of the unborn.” By that measure, Palin has many strikes against her, according to ARTL, including:

    * Her failure to endorse legislation and amendments that would extend equal protection laws to unborn children
    * Her description of the morning after pill as contraception rather than an abortifacient
    * Palin’s statement to the Anchorage Daily News that she opposes the “use of public funds for elective abortions.” This means, according to ARTL, that Palin supports taxpayer funding for non-elective abortions.

ARL takes particular offense at Palin’s belief that voters and individual states should decide whether abortion should be legal or not. “If you’re personally against slavery but say that the states have the right to decide if they can trade in slaves, then you’re a hypocrite,” explains Enyart.

One of Palin’s biggest violations of pro-life orthodoxy was her political partnership with John McCain, whom the National Right to Life Committee dubbed a “significant threat to future advances by the pro-life movement” back in 2000. (It endorsed him in 2008.) ARTL is also not happy that Palin and McCain supported stem cell research.

    Martha Unalaska Yard Sign Says:

Here goes the revisionist Palin again – changin’ and explainin’ away – her story is never the same!

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/george/2009/11/

“The former Alaskan governor pointed to her husband Todd as an example of Americans who refuse to register in a party. “Todd’s not a Republican and yet he’s got more common sense conservatism than a whole lot of Republicans that I know because he is one who sees the idiosyncrasies of the characters within the machine and it frustrates him along with a whole lot of other Americans who choose to be independent,” she told the conservative talk show host.”

Notice the lie: “Todd as an example of Americans who refuse to register in a party.” This after she tried to lie about Todd’s Alaska Independence Party registration to the McCain campaign. Now she spins it as Todd being “a generic Independent” as in non partisan or undeclared, instead of a registered member of a secessionist party. Go Sarah – boy you sure can come up with whoppers!

Trouble is, she knows that the every day person doesn’t fact check her million lies when she spits them out. She’s counting on reaching those people with her book of lies and her tour of rural America. The folksy Sarah – the facade – is all she cares about portraying right now.

Luckily – in a campaign, her lies would be ripped apart again with greater gusto than ever before. This is why I don’t believe she’ll run – she knows how much she’s hiding and how ripped she would get again.

So – no Palin 2012. Just an aspiring Republican kingmaker and money grubber. Poor Persecuted Sarah showing off her bleeding palms throughout the country. She loves being the “thorn in the side” of the evil libruls, almost as much as we anti-Palin types love being the thorn in her side. We have the staying power, Sarah. Good luck with that.

Kristan Cole on Larry Burke………by the way Larry King is going to be interviewing Kristan in a few minutes. Seems to me they’re pulling out all the stops to get good press.

She’s asking for respect to be shown to Scarah, ha, like she really truly deserves that. Blaming the media, etc.

BTW……Kristan says Scarah thinks with lightning speed and that’s her problem, lol, no doubt, calculating like a sly fox her next competitive pounce and kill.

The list of banned books was debunked, yet she uses it now, at this date, with the Harry Potter not even in print example, as a BS shield to deflect what really did happen.

I can not stand this person. She is so twisted, despicable and vindictive. Sarah, you are no Christian! Do you think you fool real Christians? There is not a humble, truthful, service bone in your greedy body here on earth.

a reminder of what really happened……..in this one case, sigh, there are multitudes.
