Well, I think I’m blogged out for today. I’m up to page 153 in the torturous, seemingly endless slog through the steaming pile of delusion that is Sarah Palin’s memoir.
I thought everyone would appreciate it if I put up an open thread that has nothing to do with Sarah Palin or politics, or even Alaska! So enjoy this beautiful satin bower bird from Snoskred, our Mudflats Forum Master who lives in Australia. It takes a global village!
The Satin Bowerbird collects blue things to attract the female to his nest – from wikipedia -
Males build specialized stick structures, called bowers, which they decorate with blue, yellow, and shiny objects if these are available, including berries, flowers, and even ballpoint pens, drinking straws and other discarded plastic items. As the males mature they use more blue objects than other colours.
Snoskred also wishes me to pass on her apologies to anyone who may have found themselves booted from the chat not too long after Oprah aired in Alaska yesterday. It wasn’t anything personal, she even managed to kick herself out of the chat!

I went to Book Club yesterday, and took along a copy of
“Daily Finance”, in which it says SP is paying her literary lawyer, Robert Barnett, somewhere between $2.5 and 5 milllion dollars. Anyone heard this before? Our members all speculated why anyone would need a literary lawyer even before the book was published, and we all agreed it was to have him in place when the lies were discovered and the law suits started rolling in!

The bowerbird is one of my favorites. Ever since I saw David Attenborough’s bird documentary, I’ve been a fan. Absolutely mesmerizing to watch them work. At one point he was laying in the grass near a bowerbird that was in the middle of a building project. The bower was quite intricately decorated with all sorts of flowers and sparkly objects. When the bird flew away to find more decorations, Attenborough snuck in and moved a few of the objects to slightly different places. Well when the bird came back he knew immediately that something was amiss. He cocked his little head, stared for a bit and then went RIGHT over to the areas that were askew and fixed them.

Good morning All !
On the TV news this morning, local Grand Rapids TV coverage of a long line of people forming outside the Barnes & Noble where S.P. is to appear tonight from 6:00 pm to 9:00pm. The line started forming last night. These people each hope to get one of a limited number of wrist bands when the store opens at 7:00 am. This band will allow them to come back and stand in line again tonight for the signing. They can only have her sign the book (no other memorabilia) and must have an original sales receipt to show they bought the book at Barnes & Noble.
Interesting about how male birds want to attract female birds with bright colors. Kind of like guys wanting to impress girls with their bright cars or sports vehicles. Love is a many-splendored thing.

Scenery for breakfast! I love it. Welcome home austintx. We sure did miss your delightfully bent way of looking at things. Heaven knows there has been a lot to look at.
OOOOOhhhhh Thank you AKM for introducing everyone to one of my favourite birds.
In one of our houses we had a bower bird nest (a bower) in our backyard. It was interesting watching this beautiful bird come and flit around the garden and more often than not sit eyeing off the pegs on the line (it was impossible to keep a blue peg on the clothes line). He would then make a choice of which blue peg he wanted and then disappear into the nest with the peg in his beak. The male that does all of the shopping for blue items to decorate the “pad”.
When the breeding season was over we went into the garden to check out his decorating skills. And oh what treasure trove! Of course all of the blue pegs were there, as well as blue milk bottle tops, piece of blue glass and plastic. pieces of blue lego and other bits and pieces of blue fabric and tinsel.
It was strange feeling looking inside really, because we felt like intruders. It was as if you had entered someone’s home without their permission. So we just left everything where it was – except for a couple of pieces of lego that one my boys insisted on reclaiming!
So sorry to throw a damper on the thread, but this is too important to ignore. There is a very ominous diary up on DKos, it tells of Frank Schaeffer’s warnings on The Rachel Maddow Show last night. The rightwing nuts are now OPENLY TRAWLING for an assassin to kill President Obama!

Maybe not.

But the verse immediately following the psalm referenced is a bit more ominous: “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”
I blame Sarah Palin for ratcheting this vitriol to this fever pitch. Please, please, PLEASE pass the word to all you know! We must stop this hateful, dangerous rhetoric now!

Trisha and Lilybart, I couldn’t get over that stupid comment and the people that find her ignorance appealing. There is a bright spot. Last night on Joy Behar’s show, Hillary Rosen gave the best reason why Sarah cannot run for President or any other office again. After all of the nasty things she said about the McCain campaign staff, she would not be able to hire people to work for her. Nobody would want to risk the same treatment.
Along the lines of stupid: there are still people who think that Richard Nixon was innocent and hounded from office.
I just received a customer survey from Zazzle for a recent order, and I told them I would not recommend them to anyone because they sell products that promote “Psalm 109:8 Pray for Obama.” I said they better research the products they sell. If I see a tee shirt or bumper sticker with that message on it, I will scream.
Lilybart, I just did the same thing. They need to understand what they are selling.
I also found one on ebay and have sent in a report. Of course, it comes out of Lawrence,KS. Veiled threats are not protected by free speech, but need to be treated for what they are–criminal acts of treason.

Caught a snipet from MSNBC, there are about 1000 to 1500 of Sarah’s fans at the book store in Michigan. They are going to put up a platform just in case she wants to give a speech. Looks like a campaign to me. One young woman
(who came from a different state) said she loved Sarah and that she tells it like it is. I don’t think they question anything she says.

Funny story and a bit weird for me. I go to that Ralphs from time to time – yes, I do.

I had no intention of thinking about $P when I went to Costco yesterday. (there are 2 out here and this would older one by the freeway)
I arrived when it opened and as I was going toward the checkstand I passed the books and there’s where stacks of them resided minus 2.
I continued to check-out…
I was thinking of changing lanes at the checkstand area, but that is when I saw it… one of the books!
No way did I want to stand near that person. She began chatting with a man behind her and they both seemed to like Sarah.
The only thing I heard the woman say was something like ‘when I think of America, I think of Sarah..’. A true believer that one and she looked quite normal…
But, I needed to not be in rant mode in my head and just happened to look down at what she was buying…a box of turkey stuffing mix was the only other purchase…. visions of turkeys being slaughtered behind $P danced in my head.
Maybe this woman is putting up a shrine?
Oh, btw, they live in the Palm Desert area during the winter.
Funny story: hubby had to do a reading of a book that he was part of (Good Men its called, its essays from various men on relationships) and he was nervous and at the same time I was reading Mudflats doing Chapter 1.
So I told him to read the first line of her boo… breathing in small town America with splashes of frontier…and then say, woops, that Sarah Palins’ book. Well he brought the house down with that one!
Reading was at the Chelsea Gay Center and those boys loved him.
I am looking forward to Sully’s take-on of the book. Oh how I am looking forward to that!

It doesn’t surprise me she has no idea what Rahm does. Remember that she had no idea what the VP did either from the beginning and still by the debate with VP Biden. She did comment in the debate about the VP job. She believes the VP job should be expanded even beyond what Cheney did — look where that got the US.

bubbles, very true. The s’errorbots are a tiny minority and we must not let them distract us from real work. In the overall scheme of things faux viewer are less than 10% of all evening news viewers when the broadcast nets are included. Far more important to monitor ABC, NBC and CBS than anything on cable.
We need to keep up the campaign for real reform for health care, banking/economic reforms, climate change/environmental reforms, and many other areas.
It just sometimes I get so mad when I see something like the PFO that I have to take some action.
So now I will write to Congress on one of the important issues to move it along. Also get on with other work for the day.

I discovered I misinterpreted based on the two-sentence quote from p. 92 because it was out-of-context. I still think she’s solipsistic… but that two-sentence quote is not actual evidence for it.

Just read Tina Brown’s article on Palin on Daily Beast ‘ Palin Drops the Act’. It’s not the first time I’ve questioned how Brown got to where she is. Truly tells you she writes to hear herself as she’s never fact-checked. This isn’t the first time. I’ve wondered for well over a year.

This quote caught my attention, because these sentiments seem to be echoed over and over again in commentary from palinbots:

Mudpups – Sarah Palin proves once again (for those still not convinced….!) that she is both brutally ignorant and utterly dangerous to the quest for world peace.
She shot her big mouth off about the Israeli settlements situation during her Barbara Walters interview. To recap, Silly Sarah had this to say about the issue of Israeli settlements expansion:
“I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead. And I don’t think that the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that the Jewish settlements cannot expand.”
In other words: Israel should be allowed to do whatever it wants regardless of consequences to its neighbours, including Palestine, because…..their population is growing. With that in mind, can we just invade Cuba and the Caribbean cuz we need more room to grow? Would Mexico mind if we just moved in with them? Because, you know, it’s THAT easy! I would love to see a mental health professional evaluate the pattern of behavior reflected in the book- refusal to take any blame herself, scathing criticism of others for the slightest offenses years in the past, name calling, and of course the pathological lying. Exactly. $P is not capable of functioning at an adult level intellectually or emotionally, which is why she was completely comfortable with her kids right there for her interviews/campaign. In my opinion, Sarah chose not to go to the cities but to those pockets of her “real America” where she knows she has a solid base. I just read that it is raining and she got off the bus carrying Trig. Words fail me. A child with a heart condition being trotted out in the cold and rain for a book signing from 6 – 9 PM, not to mention being exposed to a crowd that has to have H1N1 in it. I thought that Palin said to either Oprah or Barbara Walters that Trig had a cold and stayed at home in Alaska.
Wouldn’t Trig — and all of Palin’s other kids and caregivers to those kids — be eligible for getting the H1N1 vaccine? Do you think the Palins have gotten this safeguard for them, particularly the high-risk Trig (befor he caught his cold)?
