I don’t know how these pictures escaped me. Well, actually I do. My in-box fills up very fast some days and it’s almost impossible to keep up.
But, Mudflatter MJ sent these pictures of the hale and hearty souls who made an appearance at the gates of Elmendorf Air Force Base to welcome President Obama to Alaska. There were about 35 who showed up. Not bad for a non-anti-Palin rally!
Thanks for sending them along!

Oh, such brave Alaskans and their signs were spelled right. I am so proud of you!!! They were fired up and ready to go! This can be just the beginning! I love it!!!
Mornin’ pups. For those that are gonna deep fry their turkey , here are some ideas for the left over oil.

sigh…….let’s try this.

Good morning. Making Mother’s cranberry salad today to go in the freezer. It feels so strange to make this. She always made it every Thanksgiving, but this year asked me to do it. She cooks very little anymore, and I hope I can follow her directions correctly. I love the pictures! Such joy on the faces. Thank you!
What a nice rally. Happy, positive people welcoming the President and thanking the troops, too.
Really nice to see smiling faces and positive signs. What a breath of fresh air!
Glad that so many turned out to rally in the snow! It looks cold, but happy.
We are having a November heat wave, still no snow that has stuck, and daytime temps consistently way above freezing.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the US pups!
AKM, Brilliant piece at TPM Cafe. You nailed it. What I cannot understand is the contrast of painting herself as such a good “Christian” and the mean and nasty comments she makes about so many of those around her.
These “hit job” comments are unnecessarily mean and petty, and go way beyond what I imagined would be in this book….even for Palin.
She is a role model for today’s American Christian’s? That is very sad.
I knew from day one that Palin was mean and vindictive. It just oozes out of her pores, but this book is really shows the depth of her dark and disturbed soul.
No wonder they are hiding her emails. Can you imagine what’s them. We need to see those emails……NOW.
Great pictures. By the way AKM, I wanted to ask while I’m thinking of it: do you have to perform a cleansing ritual to purify yourself after reading that book? Maybe just an extra long shower, Just wondering…
Narcissistic personality disorder?

Jimmy Fallon’s skit about “Going Rogue”. Laughter is the best medicine, and we all need major meds after that indigestible book.

Warning: Violence and Nudity. Adult Situations. ROFLMAO!!
Just heard the NPR am story on her tour. The people interviewed sound like they’d follow her all the way to drinking the poisoned KoolAid. (Glad I live here in the Sane America and that she’s not coming here.) The reporter said the tour seemed calculated to sell books and keep her in front of her base (paraphrasing).
@11 BigPete. Great piece on Palin and NPD. Some of the comments are scary.
One called her “refreshingly honest”! Even when faced with the facts regarding all of her lies, they still believe she is honest!!!
All I can think of is Jim Jones and people drinking kool-aid in the jungle. I’m sure he too had NPD which includes a “God complex”. Lots of people followed his “refreshing truth “until their end. Sad, very sad.
14 nswfm CA, OMG, we were having the same thought….at the exact same time. I just read your post after I posted my kool-aid comment.
AKM, Brilliant piece at TPM Cafe. I could not get on to post there but i thought the article was right on and after watching some of the people at her book signing, even after they were shown she lied about something and proof of the lie ,they still claimed she did not lie LOL
I find this whole thing very sad. It’s not just about $P, or the book, it’s what it says about a portion of our country. These people feel they need to cling to something, anything, to give their lives meaning and purpose. So they glom onto this crazy lady (she’s so pretty, she must be nice), absolutely without question. I feel sad for them and for where their willful ingnorance might lead us.
Yippee! I needed an appropriate thread! Here are some responses of our military members interviewed -who attended President Obama’s speech.
http://homernews.com/stories/111309/news_srp.shtml
Good morning..all we ever get is rain..not fair..
Is anyone willing to take a wager on how long it takes before SP starts wearing a wrist brace at her book signing parties? Do the math … if 500 books are presented for signing, and she has 2-2 1/2 hours to sign them, that’s a constant pace of 3-4 sigs per minute.
I find this statement in her book very interesting, considering how many events Palin has bailed out of in the last few months. Yet, while being very pregnant, she says that she didn’t want to cancel her speech.
Hmmm…. very odd.
From her book……
Told the doctor she absolutely didn’t want to cancel the speech and disappoint the people at the conference, including Gov. Rick Perry. She’d stay in touch with doctorand catch an earlier flight back to Alaska. They had plenty of time.
Colbert reviews “the book”
http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/11/colbert-reviews-going-rogue-a-steaming-pile-of-sht.php?ref=fpb
Colbert video is so funny. Comments over there are great too. Here is my fav.
If my 7th grade daughter wrote a paper at this level she’d receive a failing grade…IT’S THAT BAD! I know she had a ghost writer and all but geez Louise the purpose of having a ghost writer is to raise the level of an otherwise substandard subject and obviously her ghost writer must have been a real live ghost! Steaming pile of caca is being too kind.
OMG, funniest comment I have read so far. …obviously her ghost writer must have been a real live ghost! Frickin hilarious.
Bob Cesca has a scathing op ed on Palin on HuffPo.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/famous-for-being-famous-t_b_362934.html
And be sure to read Geoffrey Dunn’s article re: Palin and Andree McLeod. Also a scorcher.
The talk the last day or so about her seeking the nomination is very disturbing. Strategically it will be very difficult; she’s an attractive woman and a mother of five. It will be almost impossible to go after her w/o enabling her to become the victim. Obviously to her followers the truth doesn’t matter. Obviously ethics and intelligence don’t matter. I’m afraid the only ways to bring her down might be 1) a sex tape (please, dear god, let there be a sex tape) 2) a recording, in her own voice, of her admitting to wrong doing and/or threatening someone 3) a public meltdown. Incriminating emails just won’t be enough.
Was in Costco yesterday and just had to stop to look at the pictures. What struck me as weird was how many dead animal pictures are included. Lots of snaps of her as a little girl and some dead creature.
They’re charging 16.59 and it looks like a few have sold. While I was skimming, a few over 70 women put the book in their carts although some had second thoughts and put it back. One couple even had a conversation about whether or not they would actually read it if purchased and decided to move on. No one under 70 even bothered to look at it. I couldn’t help myself and left the stand up copy upside down as I moved on to shop. I noticed on the way back that the upside down book was still that way. Scarah does bring out the silly in me.
Marx the writer got one thing right:
Religion was opium for the people. Religion as a system of subservience as a factory for sporting hopes, fears, and new heaven and alter egos Made people stupid. It made them less human.
That is what Sarah is doing to all the people that are following her.
THANK YOU ALASKA….for standing up for CHANGE.
In case you haven’t read Levi’s responses to Oprah Inteview with Palin.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/11/17/earlyshow/main5682541.shtml?tag=topnews
Johnston: I just look at her in disgust. … It’s almost funny, that she’s like, 46 years old, and she’s battling a 19 year old, and I’m winning. And I’m telling the truth. She’s lying and losing. … If you look at her face, she’s got — she’s really — you can tell her mind’s going 100 miles an hour when Oprah asked her those Levi questions. … I’ve got a lot more knowledge and credibility than she gives me credit for.
You’re right, Trisha. When Sarah wanted to get the nomination, she would be willing to fly from Alaska to Texas and back again while eight months pregnant, maybe in labor and leaking amniotic fluid. What a gal! Once she lost, who cares.
My hat is off to you, AKM, for reading that pathetic book. Just reading Ann Strongheart’s beautiful blogs makes me realize that there are people who lead of life filled with struggle, and they find something deep within themselves to keep on going, all while seeing the beauty in life.
I am struck by how Sarah’s life seems to be directed by the hand of God. She is so blessed to have a divine being directing her fortunes, while we mere mortals have to make it through life on our own. I think that she is an insult to anyone who leads a truly religious life. People criticize Sarah’s book for being short on policy and substance. If only she had concluded with a chapter on how we also could become so blessed!
Hey you guys!
So I was having a not so great day until I saw this video of Palin supporters in Michigan:
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2009/11/the-palin-base.html
It’s funny how neither of the people interviewed can specifically talk about an issue that Palin has made a difference on and when confronted with the TRUTH – they hold strong to….the distortion.
It’s also telling how the immediate reaction of the gal being interviewed when informed that Palin supported the bail-out during the campaign (and incidentally, thought it was all about health care….) was to ask where the info came from. Sweetheart – your candidate said it herself. Google it – see for yourself. SIGH – if only they would.
Of course, this book of Palin’s isn’t “settling scores” it’s “setting the record straight”. Isn’t that pretty much the same thing?
Don’t forget America – Sarah Palin didn’t “quit”, she “resigned” out of patriotism for America and her state. Sarah Palin didn’t “abandon” her state, she…..uh……”didn’t want to be a lame duck”. Which also means that she is very patriotic. Also, too.
It’s all so clear now =)
P.S. Did you know? All the people in Alaska thought she was being muzzled during the campaign too! That Sarah wasn’t allowed to be Sarah! ALL of Alaska! Fancy that…
P.P.S. Favourite part of the video was when the very nice Palin supporter guy couldn’t remember who came out and said that the purpose of the bail-out had changed and that Palin agreed with the ORIGINAL purpose. I just want to hug him and say, oh honey, it’s ok. I know it’s tough to keep those Chain E-Mails straight. I’m sure Sarah has the same problem. It’ll be ok.
This may already have been posted but in case not, PLEASE READ. It was written in the “Faith” section of the Washington Post and is another brilliant review of her book (a review that Sarah’s fan club should definitely read). Do not be afraid…Sally Quinn lets her have it in a very well thought out piece.
http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/panelists/sally_quinn/2009/11/sarah_palins_rogue_christianity.html?hpid=talkbox1
For those brave enough to go on her FB, I suggest posting this for her fanatical followers to read.
“I’m afraid the only ways to bring her down might be 1) a sex tape (please, dear god, let there be a sex tape) 2) a recording, in her own voice, of her admitting to wrong doing and/or threatening someone 3) a public meltdown. Incriminating emails just won’t be enough.”
Heavens, a sex tape?!? I don’t think I have the strength. Plus – her base will come up with a way to explain it away and make Palin the victim, once again.
No, don’t worry. Truth will out. If she does in fact win the Republican nomination – I say Bring It On. If she thought being the VP was tough – she ain’t seen nothing yet.
All of the lies she has told will come back to haunt her. There is already AMPLE documentation refuting (easily) each and every one of her lies. Now we have “Going Rogue” – which has already been fact checked. Palin has given everyone plenty of ammunition to use to show her for the fraud she is. Give it time – Palin will bring destruction upon herself. She can’t help it – she lies all the time! She gets caught on those lies all the time as well!
No – no need for a sex tape. There is enough already that will cook her goose. She’s just too arrogant to acknowledge it. Sarah Palin believes that she can get away with lying because she is Sarah Palin. So I say, let her keep talking. One day she will be held accountable for all that she has done and lied about.
Good morning! *waving* at austintx– not going near a fryer and a turkey. Years ago, one of our neighbors attempted this culinary feat; bought a fryer, bird, followed instructions (he thought), wasn’t paying too close attention (more fun having a beer with the buddies)…the fryer launched the bird (good thing no one was standing too close) and it landed about three houses down. The doggies in the yard thought Santa had arrived early
He is still hearing about the Great Turkey Escape (heh heh).
I think a documentary about Palin would be fitting, maybe called “Under the Bus” or “The Victims of Wrath”. It could feature all the people in Alaska that have suffered because of Palin’s vindictiveness or her lack of leadership. Perhaps her fans in the lower 48 need to know what Alaskans really think of her, perhaps leading off with a public opinion poll (a year ago and now).
laprofesora, aussiegal – I never go to Daily Kos, but this link was posted at Wonkette, so with a recommend like that, how could I resist:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/11/18/805704/-Dont-Get-Palins-Appeal-Try-a-Little-Harder
It neatly summarizes the mindset of palinbots, where they’re coming from. And the comments following are equally instructive, sometimes in the opposite manner to what their authors intended. But don’t let me ruin it with an attempted summary. Pour a cup of tea…
Oh yeah, and a virtual high five to AKM for the TPM piece. Beauty.
From bob Cesna of HP “A reality show president.”
I can actually see it, the cameras following Palins all over the white house, her flippng her hair, winking, pressing buttons and dropping bombs on random countries, bringing cookies to hurricane victims (but not the black, Jewish, gay or liberal victims, just the white born again victims), cameras rolling 24/7……. I am sure it’s air on that 700 Club channel. Or Fox, or both. Yep, that’s what America needs, reality TV from the White House. Dear god……………….
Mo – GREAT article and excellent points!
I do wonder how people can support her but I generally remember that they have sold a very deceptive narrative. I feel sorry for them because for the Palin supporters, their angst is REAL. For Sarah Palin – their angst is her ticket to fame, power, money and influence.
Sarah Palin lives in a big house on Lake Lucille. Sarah Palin just got over $1 mil for a book she didn’t write on her own entirely. I could go on about the hypocrisy of her “I am not part of the elite establishment” but I’d rather just say that I hope her supporters wake up to the fact that they have backed the wrong horse and that horse is running roughshod over their hard earned money.
Not many people know this, but there is an official theme song for Sarah’s book tour:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKv_vJks2gM
Mo – one more thing that just occurred to me after reading the Daily Kos piece….
Aren’t conservatives all about pulling themselves up by their bootstraps? So then why are they complaining about? If they fail – why is it anyone else’s fault but their own? To be really callous – if they fail, why should they get any help? Isn’t that how they see the world? That foregners, the poor, the sick are disadvantaged because it’s their own fault?
So to these people it’s ok for THEM to be helped (by tax cuts obviously) but any help going to other socioeconomic groups is socialism? If the President doesn’t install tax cuts as the “common sense” solution then he’s a Socialist bent on destroying the fabric of American life. But government help in the form of tax cuts is totally ok and is in fact a reflection of true Christian values?
Can such delusion really exist in one person? Sadly, the answer appears to be “Yes”.
Well…..at least I’ll have something to say now when my Aussie friends ask me the inevitable “What the bloody hell is going on over there in America? Have they all gone mad or something? Who is this Sarah Palin? She’s an idiot! Are the Yanks really going to make her President?”
Oh boy….so many spelling mistakes & omissions in my last post! My apologies, Mudpups!
Heh! So I’m not the only one who makes spelling and syntax mistakes when I’ve just read something that makes me want to chew the carpet?
Mo – hahahhaha! Mate – I just want to bang my head on the table every time Palin appears in public!
Opps….did I just play the Palin Blame Game??!! Oh noes…
I must agree with the posts above that remind us that most conservatives really believe that liberals are all about giving welfare to the lazy. In their convoluted minds they really think that Dem just want to figure out ways to take their hard earned dollars away and give them to the “lazy”.
It doesn’t matter that historically welfare is larger under Republicans. It doesn’t matter that the stock market has done better under Dem administrations going all the way back to the beginning of the 20th century.
A “real” conservative believes that Dem’s just want to support the “lazy” by taking their hard earned money.
Listen to the messages from the reich wing. They constantly harp on this.
Conservatives live in a world of paucity where the resources are finite so it is every one in a scramble to get a share. Some will lose out, but after all humans are flawed so some “deserve” to lose.
Liberals live in the world of plenty where if we all work hard we will be rewarded with a “good life”. For those in unfortunate circumstances, we will share some of our abundance to offer a helping hand.
It just all comes down to world view. The glass is half full or the glass is half empty. Of course, many of us vacillate between plenty and paucity depending upon what is going on in our lives at any given moment.
If the economy doesn’t get better by 2012 then the American mentality will be one of paucity and look out because as a society we will be in group paucity think.
Obama has been very wise to constantly emphasize no new taxes for those making less then 250K. He has got to keep that promise above all else. Getting some jobs going is also important. Cleaning up Wall Street is also important but I fear what needs to be done is to esoteric for most to fully grasp.
that is how scary she is:
Palin Confuses Iraq And Iran In Hannity Interview (VIDEO)

No doubt on that one, fan from CA. A Paul Krugman column, I think, once mentioned this phenomenon in passing as “the harvest mentality” – there’s only so much to go around, shiftless grasshoppers ‘n virtuous ants, you know the drill. It the fearful, greedy, grasping mindset.
Can’t diss the wealthy overlords, they might not deign to give us jobs; so kick those below you on the economic ladder.
So, yeah, I can see it and to a certain extent understand the emotional underpinnings, but I’m still stumped as to what to do about this group. They can’t be persuaded.
President Obama’s reaction to Palin and her book.

Thank you for this post….it’s nice to see pictures of sane people.
Polly- Gee, I was really wishing he’d have said something like, “Well, that’
s interesting from someone who doesn’t even have a job…” but, luckily, Obama isn’t a nasty talker like Palin, which is why he’s PODUS and she’s comedy.
Was just over at Brees and watch the BW interview. I thought her response to Levi claiming bad marriage was interesting. I’ve been married more than 20 years, and there are bad years for everyone, but Palin can’t admit a problem she can’t blame on someone else.
twain12…thanks, I just watched that clip. We know she is simply parroting things about sanctions (that she doesn’t have a clue about) that she has heard but oy, does she mess up. She obviously knows nothing about the Iranian/Iraqi conflict and the deep seated distrust the countries have shared. I can’t wait for her to refer to Prime Minster Yukio of Japan as the President of China.

This is a good read, unfortunately the comments went rabid towards Sally Quinn. The “faith” fan club still didn’t “get” it. Protecting little miss whiney pants, and berating the author.
yes, I’m still wading through that DailyKos thread. Here’s a gem of relevance to Palin and palinbots:
—————————————-
[re promoting higher education] “We can’t ask people…
to celebrate a game that they are unlikely to win, or in most cases, have already lost.
People like to feel good about themselves. ”
This. A huge part of the appeal of conservatism is the belief that one is better than others (along with a lack of empathy for other people). A desperate need to feel superior even when one is actually mediocre.
A lot of Americans want their leaders to tell them that they’re good, hard-working, honest people, even when they’re really lazy, gluttonous, uninformed, and bigoted. No one likes to be told that they’re not a good person. They want to be told that their problems are someone else’s fault.
A fan from CA:
What is disturbing for me, as a Christian, is how Evangelicals in America, who declare loudly that they are God fearing, God trusting Christians, can STILL subscribe to the paucity view.
The Bible teaches that with uncertainty in the world to deal with – the Christian has the Anchor of God to hold onto. So it should not matter, for those with true faith in the unseen powers of the Almighty, what circumstance they find themselves in. To the believer who truly leans on God and trusts in His provision for them – all will be well in God’s perfect timing.
Does this mean the true believer does not work hard? No. It means that we should work hard and glorify God with our hard work but if something should happen that is unexpected or unfortunate or just plain wrong and we end up being financially affected – Christians are SUPPOSED to trust in a GOOD and FAITHFUL God who allowed the circumstance to come upon us in the first place. NOT blame someone else or the Government or an evil cabal out to destroy them.
So my question to the Evangelical Christians who maintain that unless the elected Government cut taxes, support free market and cease welfare, it is not doing God’s work: How deep is your faith in God?
The God I believe in, the God in the Bible, provides for His people regardless of economic climate, political regime and social status.
Ask the Christians in China what God can do for them in a country that actively persecutes religious expression, free press and progressive ideas. These Christians remain faithful to God even under the most dire of circumstances.
In America – Christians WHINE all day long about not being able to buy that second car or a vacation home and about paying taxes. It’s pretty sad if you think about it.
It challenges me every day to be thankful for what I have – instead of coveting with my eyes the things I WANT and do not have.
What about God’s blessings that are not financial? Is money all that matters to Evangelicals today? What about eternal life? The promise of His presence in our lives and hearts? What about the blessed assurance of every day in God’s fellowship? Do these not outweigh any financial issues a Christian may be facing? Why are Christians today chasing after the Money god and not realise they are betraying the very faith they use to bash non-believers with?
And what of the poor? The sick? The unfortunate? Did Jesus come to the world to save the RICH and POWERFUL and the CORPORATIONS? He came to save ALL who have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. ALL. Not just the ones who have access.
How can the current Religious Right call themselves true followers of Christ when they neglect the poor, the sick, the widows, those in prison? How can they live with such lies and hypocrisy?
Seriously – sometimes it’s just too much for me to fathom.
book tour… she’s out in crowds with Trig on hip…H1N1…she’s still trying to unload this beautiful baby somehow…where’s CPS?

Palin Confuses Iraq And Iran In Hannity Interview (VIDEO)
Sarah Palin picked celebrity interviewers and right-wing pundits for her book promotion tour, probably to avoid embarrassments like last year’s Katie Couric interview.
But even a friendly interview can be treacherous. In a sit-down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity Wednesday night, the former Alaska governor confused Iraq and Iran several times.
Asked about how to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons, Palin responded by suggesting we get tough with Iraq.
“We have allies who are as concerned about Ahmadinejad’s actions as we are,” she said.
“Cutting off the imports into Iraq, of their refined petroleum products.
They’re reliant … on those imports. We have some control over there.
And some of the beneficial international monetary deals that Iraq benefits from, we can start implementing some sanctions there and start really shaking things up and telling Ahmadinejad, nobody is going to stand for this.”

Martha – just read it =) hahaha What a twit.
My husband works with a Palin lovin’ evangelical. Hubby asks him, “So, you buying Palins book?” “No,” he responds. “We’d never read it.” ‘Cause they don’t read! Bet 95% of the fools buying it won’t read it either. Maybe she should have done a 24 page “Once upon a time.” A fairy tale would suit her imaginary tale that she calls her life -and with lots of eveil charachters behind every corner. Rah!
Double twit.
I am totally missing the point of why Obama has nominated this appointment. I’ve thought her as a vicious space cadet.

A reader writes (re: Michigan book tour):
When she got off the bus, wearing her familiar uniform of black skirt, high heels and red blazer, she waved with one hand and held her son Trig, dressed in a striped green sweater, in the other. The group erupted in applause. She walked to a small platform in the middle of the crowd, said “Thank you so much for showing up,” and handed Trig to an aide.
What is the point of carrying the baby to the platform and then handing him to an aide? Why not leave him on the bus with an aide? Is he just a prop?
Interesting article about Palin’s appearance @ Ft. Hood.
………”The main reason is to stop this from turning into a political platform,” he said. “There are Army regulations that basically prohibit military reservations from becoming political platforms by politicians.”
He said only one politician can use that platform, “and that person does it as our commander in chief.”
Other members of the public would be permitted to attend the event.
Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, has already agreed not to give a speech at Bragg, McCollum said. But he worried that Palin’s supporters might make the event political and use the media to express opinions from the base……..
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091119/ap_on_en_ot/us_palin_fort_bragg_4
Regarding that Hannity clip with Palin. What a fool.
What the heck did she just say? It was all mumbo-jumbo as usual, but she seemed to be saying it with great confidence like she is some great policy wonk. Mixing up Iraq and Iran…..good lord.
@aussiegal77 says:

good question…I think that those that wear their religious beliefs on their sleeve, the ones who preach and judge…are the ones who had a previous, deceitful life with bad behavior…the ones who had to turn to others in the same boat to survive…so, yet and still, a leopard NEVER changes it’s spots!
I’m not saying everyone, but a large percentage (I believe) are hiding behind this kind of group therapy.
“At least one person in the crowd yelled: “Palin power. 2012, yes.”"
Palin Power? That reminds me of another familiar saying. Interesting.
Lainey – very good point. It shows yet again the duplicity of the human spirit.
aussie,” That reminds me of another familiar saying.”
Let me guess, Austin Powers?
Aussiegal @ 64: Did they also shove their fist into the air? Were they wearing hoods? Any symbols on their coats?
I’m so sick and tired of this all.
Fox News caught red-handed (again) doctoring video
November 18, 2009 5:54 pm ET by Matt Gertz
UPDATE: For photographic proof that one of the rallies Fox News presented as being from Palin’s book tour actually took place last year on the campaign trail, go here.
http://mediamatters.org/blog/200911180052
As the folks over at Think Progress note,
http://mediamatters.org/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fthinkprogress.org%2F2009%2F11%2F18%2Ffox-crowd-shot-palin%2F
Fox News’s Gregg Jarrett today used old stock footage of a McCain-Palin rally from last year to illustrate how Sarah Palin is “continuing to draw huge crowds” during her book tour.
He was apparently not tipped off by the McCain campaign “Country First” sign in one of the shots, nor did he wonder why Palin would be using a teleprompter to plug her book.
This is the second time
http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200911100063
in ten days Fox News has been caught deceptively using video to advance a misleading storyline – and that’s just the tip
http://mediamatters.org/research/200911110019
of Fox News’ video-doctoring iceberg.
Maybe now Howard Kurtz
http://mediamatters.org/blog/200911160024
will admit that there’s a larger cultural problem with Fox News?

austintx,
I just read your link on deep-fried turkeys. I’m drooling!!
We have a Chip Truck at our farmers market that fries their french fries in peanut oil. Addiction! I find the difference of oils makes you want more! It takes all my will power to pass the truck by!
Sad to hear the sweet potatos didn’t work. Hopefully the temperature change is the trick. I think I could survive on sweet potatos! Sweet potato fries – I think there is an adventure to the store in my future – like this afternoon!
Paula: Behave!
Ripley: Exactly.
Meede, I make shallow-fried sweet potato ‘chips’. Peel then slice your sweet potato a little thicker than chip, fry in a shallow layer of hot, yes, peanut oil. Only takes about a minute or a minute and a half per side (you can tell by looking when they’re done). Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. While cooling, sprinkle with pepper and a little salt.
Delicious! Problem is, the pan can only cook six to eight at a time, and by the time the second batch is done, I’ve already eaten the first batch!
I just read that Palin is going to be in SLC. OMG, I missed that before. I am either going to have to leave town or plan a protest.
Being an Evangelical, she is really going to have to fake it with the Mormon’s. The Mormon’s and Evangelicals are arch enemies….each thinking they are the only true Christian’s. Should be interesting.

The US Army Keeping Media From Palin Event
RALEIGH, N.C. — The U.S. Army plans to prevent media from covering Sarah Palin’s appearance at Fort Bragg, fearing the event will turn into political grandstanding against President Barack Obama, officials said Thursday.
Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum told The Associated Press that Bragg’s garrison commander and other Army officials had decided to keep media away from Palin’s book promotion. He said the Army did not want the Monday event to become a platform to express political opinions “directed against the commander in chief.”
“The main reason is to stop this from turning into a political platform,” he said. “There are Army regulations that basically prohibit military reservations from becoming political platforms by politicians.”
******************************************************************************
He said only one politician can use that platform, “and that person does it as our commander in chief.”
******************************************************************************
Other members of the public would be permitted to attend the event.
Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, has already agreed not to give a speech at Bragg, McCollum said. But he worried that Palin’s supporters might make the event political and use the media to express opinions from the base.
“This will stop someone from grandstanding,” he said.
A spokeswoman for Palin’s publisher, HarperCollins, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. (BOO HOO)

mmm, french fries done in Peanut Oil. That’s the secret to great Boardwalk Fries (you know, those fabulous fries you buy in Ocean City, MD, or along the NJ shore). Plus, they are double-fried. The first pass mostly-cooks the french fry, then the second frying makes-em crispy and tasty.
Totally not Palin post!
I saw an ad this morning for a live musical: 101 Dalmations. It appears to be a fun family musical touring to a number of cities which is great.
Here is the website http://www.the101dalmatiansmusical.com/
Check under the Purina link at the top of the page and then the 101 Dalmation box on the bottom of that page. It shows more tour cities and dates than the 101 does.
Why did Fort Bragg even consent to the book signing in the first place!?!

hahahahhaha that is PERFECT! hahahaha
Lori,
Cafe Press needs to be informed of together with Psalm 109.8 that they are advertising together with Psalm 109.9 May his children be fatherless
and his wife a widow to show that it represents what it was advised to them yesterday and that they should realize the meaning like the other site did and once again, remove it totally, not as how they left it half hanging — it crosses the line. If they choose to not remove it permanently, there is no other choice but to report it to the authorities.
Apparently…..most Republicans believe the 2008 election was stolen for Obama by…..ACORN.
Of course.
And here’s the appropriate response to the latest Right Wing nonense: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-mitchell/acorn-facts-craze-set-off_b_364069.html
Merciless derision.
My own 2 cents: ACORN made Sarah Palin mix up Iran with Iraq. Or Iran. Or….Iraq. Uh…..wait, what?
aussiegal77,
I notice Huffington has a story on the looser in NY23 yapping about ACORN too. I ignored looking at it. He is what he is — a looser.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/republican-party/the-palin-book-tour.html
Whether there is a subtle political motivation within the tour, is, like many things related to Palin, extremely difficult to divine. Politico’s Ben Smith, who is on the road with Palin wrote this morning that “the stop in Grand Rapids felt like a political campaign event, not a book tour. For a woman written off as a disorganized celebrity on a tour run by monomaniacal book publicists, Palin and her aides were clearly thinking politics.”
And yet, Palin’s closest advisers — to the extent there are any — insist that a 2012 run for president is simply not in her calculus at the moment and that seeing the book tour through a purely political lens is a mistake.
What’s clear is that careful consideration went into the cities, counties and states that Palin would visit on the “Going Rogue” tour. But is it a financial consideration, a political one or a little of both?
Come on aussie- you can see it can’t ya, that hard knock life rap…

Religulous whackos, would you just rapture already?
You guys, I am still laughing at Sour Grapes of Wrath. It’s honestly perfect.
Flyinureye – can we please have a visual to go with that book title?
Love it.
Paula: oh the drama. hey wait, I thought Palin wasn’t into the drama??
nswfmCA: thanks for the snippet. I think it’s a bit of both with heaving leaning on the political side. Palin of course thinks we’re all stupid and can’t see thru her meme in a New York minute. Wretched woman.
“…..would you just rapture already?”
HAHAHHAHAHA that was hilarious!
I can see it now – Palin and posse roll up to St Peter at the gate in the Straight Talk Express and he asks them if they’re at the right place cuz he doesn’t see them on the list of the Righteous.

Andrew Sullivan sounds exhausted. I would be too if I had to read Going Rogue, let alone try to make sense of Palin’s imaginary world….

Favourite quotes:
“…….we have an unbalanced, delusional, ambitious fanatic whose relationship to reality is entirely instrumental and can change from minute to minute. And so we cannot even say: that doesn’t make sense so it probably isn’t true. With Palin, anything is possible her world is so imaginary and magical.”
and
“Move on and forget about her? If only. Not just because she is a vital figure in this country’s politics right now and one of the most dangerous demagogues this country has seen in a long time, but because I just want to know. I want to know what really lies under that facade.”
I think we would all love to know but something tells me that under that facade there isn’t much else.
P.S. MUST Palin drag that poor child every where she goes? Poor Trig, he’s so adorable and he just needs to be in a stable home with loving parents and family. He doesn’t need to be hauled in and out of tour buses! It makes me want to cry looking at his little face. I wish I could take him away and take care of him like he needs, out of the public glare and cameras. One reader commented on the Daily Dish that Palin got off the bus holding Trig, got on stage and handed him off to an aide. Geez…..why bring him in the first place??!! He’s a CHILD! Not a prop!!

C’mon by !!
Ben Smith at Politico has it soooo bad for Palin. It’s obvious that he is in love with the woman and it’s no surprise that he is “on the bus” with her.
I was thinking earlier today that this whole bus trip seems to be Palin calling a re-do on the campaign. I am sure she is sitting her bus thinking that she is running for office.
That photo on Andrew’s site is such a sick photo-opp. Palin gettin’ off the bus with baby on hip.
I bet she didn’t touch that child until the cameras were rolling. I’m sure she has some caretaker or aide…or Piper to do the baby sitting until her child becomes an asset for the sake of the media.
She is so fake.

95 nswfm CA,
I too have now just sent another email to CafePress.
I just saw on Yahoo that Fox apologized for the fake Palin coverage they aired. They showed huge crowds from a campaign rally and said it was a crowd at her book signing. They said, footage is just coming in……..and then showed footage from last year.
They claim it was an production error. Ya right. You would think that after being caught last week doing the same thing, that they would try a little harder to pretend they are news.
Shameless.
On the same topic of the media. I find it really sad that the media came to the defense of Fox a few weeks ago, and attacked the White House and The President for calling Fox out. Yet, no one in the media has come to the defense of Couric after Palin’s claims of abuse by Couric.
I read that they (the media) didn’t like the White House calling out Fox because they are all “brothers” in a sense. Yet, no one has defended Couric and called out Palin for her ridiculous claims?
Disgusting.

MSNBC’s The Ed Show is talking with Tom Bristol about the Pebble Mine. He said he will have the mining company on to discuss this issue.
Mr. Bristol mentioned that the area is one where earthquakes happen, and that adds to the danger of the mine.

Hey Ripley !! Glad that the shrimp caper got solved. bubs told me that there was a little……er…”stink”. But all is well. Saw El Jefe while I was away and he said you angels are doing swell and might have an escapade up your sleeves. Of course we will expect a full report WITH pictures , as was the previous case.
austin is back ripley. i am thrilled to see him too.
Mrs. Palin was just on O’Rilley and he ask her what bothered her most and she said people saying she should have aborted her baby. I may have missed something but I don’t remember anyone saying she should have aborted him. Am I wrong on this?
The report on Alaska Report about an Alaskan pol’s young daughter being with child is no longer there. Anyone know any more?
I just wanted to mention– UC regents raised undergraduate tuition by 32 percent! California has nearly 10 percent of the population of the United States, so State-school tuition just went up a third for nearly 1 in 10 Americans.
George Bush and republicans really messed up our country. Their policies devastated our economy and it will take decades to repair their damage. A few years ago it would have been unconscionable for UC would raise tuition by a third in a single year, but after Bush we’ll believe any bad news.
I believe it was Lori (I may be wrong and I apologize) advised us that CafePress put the items with regard to Psalm 109 back online for purchase today.
I sent another email to CafePress including the wording for both Psalms, 109.8 shown on their items but hiding behind Pray for Obama and Psalm 109.9 for clarification as 109.9 makes reference to ‘May his children be fatherless, his wife a widow’, for their reconsideration for removal of the items as they may not have researched it. Here is the response that I just received. They are going to continue selling them.
“Thank you for contacting CafePress.com!
Cafepress looks at content on a case by case basis, and makes decisions about what content is permissible based on our content usage policy.
Anti-presidential gear has been a mainstay at Cafepress since we were founded in 1999 and has become a key component of political discourse. Our site has become a cultural barometer of public opinion and as such designs often come into question. In managing our content we are trying to protect self expression, while making sure we are not advocating violence.
We initially pulled the Psalm 109:8 content from our products today because broader media dialog indicated that these designs potentially suggested violence towards the president. Based on current public discourse and further review of the actual content, we have determined that it is fair political commentary and we are in the process of reinstating this merchandise. What do you think? Time to step this up?
Does someone have the email address to report CafePress & this material
@120 meede
I canceled my CafePress account and received the same reply as you.
Here is my response to them:
From the King James Bible:
Psalm 109:8 – Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Psalm 109:9 – Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
If this is the state of the current public discourse, I think we need some serious intervention. I still am of the opinion that the inference in these verses is to violence. I think you should do the right thing and stop selling these items. This puts you on the level of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and their ilk. First Amendment freedom of expression should not mean that we loose all civility toward each other.
I shall not renew my account with you and will advise my friends and family to do likewise.

I was just over at Ebay, and some sellers are offering – for over $100.00 each – a LEATHER BOUND jacket with the Palin book inside.
Has anyone else seen this edition for sale anywhere? Amazon’s not offering it.
Can you imagine the lard-heads who would bid and pay over $100.00 for this?

I’ll never buy another thing from them.

126 A fan from CA,
My post at #120 refers to my second dealing with Cafe Press this afternoon.
When people wrote yesterday, they left the main pictures but when you clicked on them, it took you to a page that said the items could not be found. They reconsidered, and decided to put the items back up for sale.
When Lori advised the items were for sale once again, this afternoon I and some others send another email. I know in mine I made reference to the 109.8 and the 109.9 Psalm references as looking at them together makes it even worse. The response I posted in #120 is their response back that they are unwilling to remove the items as what they are saying is they don’t find them harmful.
I’m wondering now if they should be reported to FBI or what to do? That is what I was making reference to for an email address to write to.
If anyone has any further ideas — let us know.
Zazzle understood and realized and removed the items. CafePress are being irresponsible.
Rachel mentioned on her show tonight, that Zazzle did the decent and right thing by removing the PFO items. I had also contacted CafePress a couple of times, and on the second response it stated as others have shown – they’ve reviewed it and put the items back up.
They carry Mudflats items………where else might AKM market the stuff?
Geoff Dunn has a funny item up – with the purchase of Palin’s book, the bookstore in CA is giving away a free bag “Sarah Palin’s….Just Plain Nuts”. If someone doesn’t want to buy the book, they’ll sell them the bags of nuts.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/geoffrey-dunn/california-bookstore-laun_b_364086.html
Meede, Rachel had the story on her show tonight and has a link from her site.
I would think that the Secret Service has heard about this by now, but if you want to contact I’d look up a phone number for them and the FBI.
I also tried to send an email to AKM at yahoo but it bounced. I did send a message in the forum to adm. I know that she is really busy reading the stinking pile but I want her to be aware. Rachel has millions of viewers and I’m sure some are as upset by this as we are.
Zazzle and ebay have done the right thing and not given these seriously sick people a forum to sell this offensive stuff. I think Cafe Press will have a big problem on their libertarian hands.
A fan from CA,
With Rachel covering it again tonight, let’s see what happens. As you say, there may be many who didn’t write on her first report, but as she has mentioned it again with further explanation and wording of the Psalm, they will now. We can keep watch on Cafe Press.
Thanks.

I hope AKM broadens her distribution network, because I will certainly never buy anything else through Cafe Press. Probably even if they re-reverse their position. If they couldn’t figure out that Ps109:8 is followed by :9, and in context is beyond-the-pale hateful, then they are to stupid to patronize.
“too stupid”. Sorry. I don’t type well, and even worse when I’m mad.
If anyone is interested in telling Ft. Bragg their opinion on letting Palin on the base for her book signing tour, here’s the number to call at Ft. Bragg # 910-907-5290
Palin should take her book selling tour to commercial venues….NOT to military bases when she is a good deal responsible for the 400X increase in death threats against the commander-in-chief of the US military.
Pass this number along. It’s outrageous she’s been allowed to peddle her lies and subversive politics against PO onto a military establishment.
