Palin Heckled at Book Signing Event.

20 11 2009

It’s like a political Frankenstein movie. Sarah Palin has helped to create the atmosphere of incivility and the shouting, heckling, teabagger town hall interrupting, “You lie!” shouting, teeming masses of malcontents that has taken over the national discourse.

And now they have turned on their creator…  Chants of “Quitter!” and “Sign Our Books!” are heard.  Can torches and pitchforks be far behind?

See HERE for some comments on Palin’s own Facebook page from those who are less than pleased with Dr. Palinstein. Here are a couple samples:

Jordan Harris I just spent 9 hours of my day, $40 of my hard earned money on two of your books, and took the whole day off work to watch you jump on a bus and throw a half-heated wave to the crowd you were avoiding.

I have never felt so disrespected. How can you claim that you are different? You aren’t. You are just as selfish as everyone else in Washington. It breaks my heart. I thought you might be the answer to the turmoil this country is under but you aren’t. You just slapped hundreds of Hoosiers in the face. The hard working type of people that you claim to represent.

You say in your book that you chose to sleep well over eating well. At the end of the day I know that you don’t care that you wasted the whole day of some 20 year old college student who lives on their own. I understand that all that matters is that I spent my money on two of your books. I’m sure your eating well. You certainly have no reason to be sleeping well.

Julie Beightler Doll Went to the book signing in Noblesville, IN. Waited three hours in the cold to get a wristband to reserve my spot at the book signing tonight. We were told she would sign book for the first 1000 people. Not so. The event ended promptly at 9:00pm, though there were still at least 150 people left. Wasted my day, wasted money on a babysitter, and wasted my money on this book.

Linda Lewey My family (wife, 3year old, and 10 year old) and I waited for 6 hours to get a book signed by Sarah Palin tonight. She left 300 folks standing in the rain and cold without explanation or even an address at exit. That is 1800 hours of voters lives sacrificed for nothing due to lack of concern by another politician for… our time, money and effort to see a cause through. She could have invested 45 minutes and not received the boos, or sign my book chants. I know that the majority of the folks that were chanting go Palin now are returning her books tomorrow morning. What a disappointment. It is time that politicians follow through on the detail and not just be concerned with their own time. The country requires hard working Americans (that vote) to change the political landscape. I thought Sarah turning Rogue was a good thing. Following your steps to a road to success being on the cutting edge. I guess it is just in the name of her book not the fabric of her handlers.

Latest email to me from SarahPac. I signed up and was banned immediately, but inexplicably, I am still getting their mass mailings. LOL! She is begging for $100 donations for a “free” signed copy of the book. I guess those poor folks in Indiana didn’t know about this special deal.

Here is what they are saying: (I preface this paste job with an Oh Gawd!)

    Sarah PAC Supporters,

This is just a quick note to let you know the offer of a free signed copy of “Going Rogue: An American Life” with a $100 or more donation to Sarah PAC ends Wednesday, November 25th at 12:00PM EST.

Good point. Can you imagine how embarassing it would be for her to try and compare their experience after Obama’s 4 years as Leader of the Free World.
Well, gosh golly, I was mayor of a tiny tiny town. Then, I quit my job as governor.

So I went to Barnes and Noble tonight intending to sneak a peak at you-know-who’s book. I couldn’t do it! I wandered the store, found several really nice gifts for nephews, then walked back to where The Book was being kept. I cringed, I reached out my hand, I couldn’t take it off the shelf! It was like if I took it down to look at it, I’d get contaminated! I rifled through the pages with one finger for a second and thought WHAT AM I DOING? YUCK!!

Then i remembered the same thing happens at the library when I see Limbaugh’’s books or Beck’s books in the “new books” display. Blecchhhh!

I left disgusted with her, and thankful for AKM’s bravery in reading and summarizing for us.

Then I read this post and felt a warm fuzzy version of schadenfreude.

    Thanks AKM!!!

So, 1000 wristbands were handed out in Noblesville, IN and only 600 people got in to have their books signed. Palin up and quit even though only about 60% of the work was finished.

Who could have seen that coming?

I think that is $ 100 for her signature (very pretty one at that) and the book is included for free. Plus shipping & handling charges.

It’s not her fault that she couldn’t sign all the books. She is just so tootin pretty, qualified, and the rock star of the Republican party. Dogonit! Ya betcha!

    Dang-It!

I’m sure Sarah prayed to God, and he told her it was her destiny to quit!. She does have a tight schedule, interviewin on tee vee, with lots of rules while makin up Gov’mint policy on facebook, oh and that beautiful family to care for…

I got home from work and the first story I read is that Palin is being heckled by her OWN supporters!!! This is tooooooo funny! This alone made my day.

I hope someone in the News can interview some of this disgruntled book buyers.
And since we know Sarah likes to take shortcuts based on the past.
Will Bristol be going on tour with her with her ‘ Thank You Note ‘ card signing skills?? They could have a few hundred extra ‘ pre-signed ‘ books already prepared on the bus and they just exchange pre-signed one for those waiting in line.
They don’t get to meet the Author personally like ALL other Authors do it…Oh well. At least it won’t inconvenience Sarah…. because WHO is more important here. Sarah Fans may be finally realizing the answer to THAT question.

    Fran Says:

Love the way she refers to the people willing to stand out in the rain for hours waiting for her to sign a book as “true patriots”, as well as brave. LOL. Only Sarah has an ego large enough to equate a willingness to buy a book an autographed book about her with being a patriot.

Don’t everyone get cozy with CafePress yet – they still have a number of 109.8 items on site for ordering. Discovered they still have over a dozen items listed for sale.

I did a search for Psalm 109 and a page popped up. Some of the items say they are not available but the tank top and ceramic travel mug is. When I saw the mug was available, I just happened to scroll the page, and at the bottom of that page was about 10 items still available. Clicking on the tank top, I think I revealed about a dozen more.

I don’t recall whether these items had all been listed as Psalm 109 Mug or T-Shirt, I didn’t pay attention. They are presently all called One Term Please but with the Psalm 109.8.

There is another item there of Psalm 109.3. Now I have no idea – is this appropriate?
Psalm 109:3 – They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

I’m making a list of the items I find but there seems to be a number of new ones on each page I’ve clicked on. In fact towards the bottom of the page I just noticed that is says: Psalm 109 designs available on 323 products.

Can someone let me know regarding 109.3.
    Thanks.

Well, the real Sarah Palin just stood up today in Indiana. She doesn’t give a single crap about any of these people. She’s got their money and that’s all that matters. Pay off the Ghost writer(s)…and start counting the rest… end of story…the rest is all hand waving….

The Canadian National Post (a conservative rag) flew a reporter to Noblesville. He ended his story when her bus pulled IN. He called it the book-signing and baby-brandishing tour. He was all soppy about a couple who were thrilled that they had a wrist band. Bet he wishes he’s stuck around for the rest of the story.

“I’m glad you all will get an opportunity to read my words, unvarnished and unfiltered,’ she said.” ~ Sarah schmoozing the Patriots.
(Via Politico article —scratch that— Via Politico Fawning.)

The Fawning is titled: “Sarah Palin embraced in Indiana Republican hub”
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1109/29755.html

Funnily enough, the video accompanying the Fawn has NO disgruntled sounds emanating from the gathered (is it 1,000 or 5,000?) folks. It shows S’arah talking to the assembled fans and then her getting on her bus. As calm, cool, and as collected as can be. And adored, I tell you; simply adored!

Nary a “boo” or a “Sign our book!” chant to be heard.

The blogs on the right are posting this video to show how adored the one they adore is. And, how, obviously, the libruls [ptui!] are “making stuff up.”

I’m a bit confused by the video, though: How quickly does sunlight disappear in Indiana this time of year? The reason I ask is:

The Politico video clearly shows that one minute she’s out there, addressing the crowd (in what I can only assume is a “See you later, Patriots; thanks for comin’ – I’m headin’ off now, but I’ll keep thinkin’ about’cha and what great Patriots ya’ are as I travel across this beautiful land of ours” farewell). Up above her bus, in the background, the sky is a shade of grayish-blue I’d normally associate with, oh, I don’t know, maybe about 5-5:30 pm of a mid-November eve at that latitude. It’s really quite pretty. BUT, the immediate next frames we seamlessly see in the video, is her getting on the bus and the sky is totally, and I mean TOTALLY, black! This complete lack of sunlight happens all within the space of 2 seconds!

So, you can see where this might confuse me. This sunlight deal. For those who live there –or who’ve been there on a visit, or whatever– is this instantaneous nightfall a phenomenon unique to Indiana? beth.

    Pat, Washington state Says:

Well, leave it to Sarah to quit one more thing. I remember getting wrist bands to pick up my Harry Potter books at midnight at Borders and at Barnes and Noble. The way the stores work is that if you have your wrist band and you are in line, they stay open till everyone has a copy of the book. So if people didn’t get their signed copy, it’s clear to me that she is the one who quit. Figures.

And the way the crowd turned on her and her fans wrote about it just shows that she has stirred up all that anger. People who are so angry aren’t always particular about where it’s directed – they’ll turn on anyone in a heartbeat, and apparently did.

  29. 179
    tigerwine Says:

    beth @ 175 I didn’t see SP saying goodbye, thought she didn’t.
Could that be from another location? However, since the book-signing stopped at 9 PM, it certainly would have been dark.

NY Dem @ 177 – Yes, speaking of that bus!! Makes me wonder what that thing costs. I read on Daily Finance.com the other day that was talking about her not really making all that money on this book deal:

minus fees to her literary attorney, Robert Barnett, somewhere between $2.5 million and $5 million.

Looks like he will earn his pay! On top of that she has to pay her ghost writer, whom she does not even have the courtesy of a by line on the cover. Then the cost of this bus!

And I just cringe every time I see her parading that poor baby then quickly handing him off to someone. I guess this might be a “damned if you do, and damned if you don’t” thing. If she left him home, someone would complain she should be there taking care of him. But that’s exactly where he should be, not out in those crowds. Rant over.

That bus is so over the top and really says, Hi, my name is Sarah, I have NPD.
What other authors have paraded around in a bus with their photo larger than life plastered on the side?

They are trying to make a big splash because, honestly, 1,500 is really not that many people. Books are not flying off the shelves. Go to any store and you can see that there are no crowds buying up her book.

    dejadejavu Says:

Waiting for an autograph for hours with a three year old child? Waiting for an autograph even though some couldn’t even afford it? This is stupidity. Perhaps that is Sarah’s appeal. It reinforces the belief that anyone with luck, narcissistic personality disorder, and a personal saviour can have open doors to riches and fame, and one needn’t sacrifice their prejudices or ignorance in the process.

    beth Says:

    response to: tigerwine @ 149 (November 21st, 2009 at 2:48 AM)
No, sweets, I didn’t hear her say “ciao” to any of the crowd, either. I was writing about what was shown in the Politico video…her talking, all nice like, and then getting on the bus to a female fan (expressing the feelings of the entire crowd?) yelling “I love you, Sarah”. The impression given by that video is that she makes some sort of nice farewell speech to ‘the Patriots’ *immediately* before she departs from her adoring and happy followers.

The Sarah-love blogs are posting the Politico video to show, proof-positive, there was no crowd ‘grumbling’ when she left the signing…that she’s – again – being smeared by the jealous, libruls; it was a set up by the libruls and librul sites like the Mudflats are posting a video that ISN’T TRUE to make her –dear, beloved, do-no-wrong Sarah– look bad. (See: “Roguish Liberal Behavior” ~ http://jammiewearingfool.blogspot.com/2009/11/roguish-liberal-behavior.html )

In the Politico video, you can’t clearly hear any of what SP is saying. So, in context of the video, I ‘made up’ the gist of what I think Politico is wanting people to think she is saying *just before* she gets on the bus to be whisked off into the night. From other videos of the event, this –her addressing the crowd at *that* point of the evening– is obviously NOT what happened.

I have a feeling Politico (and Sarah-love sites) are hoping no one will notice the difference in the color of the sky in their video: one second, grayish-blue (consistent with 5-5:50pm-ish) and the next, pitch black (consistent with 9-9:30pm-ish). Politico did some not-too-clever video editing and is presenting the video *as if* the time-line for what they’re showing is seamless – that it’s an accurate, second-by-second, video of what happened when she quit signing books and left the mall in Indiana. Fail. beth.

I watched this last night on Countdown and had a good laugh. So she quit early and this is what, like the third stop on the tour? Hilarious. A few more of these and no one will show up. Next stop, she’ll quit with which letter? Also loved the “non” apology. Keep it up Sarah!

i’m sure hoping that the ‘rest’ of America catches on (to what the thinkers in Alaska have long known) at last with this ‘make believe I’m the people’s choice’ bs SP is pushing now. I am SO sick of her, but its kind of like watching a rattle snake…..you don’t like it but there is some level of fascination as to what it will do next. Even tho I know she LIES (or perhaps is only exercising the woman’s perogative and changing her mind on a dime)but I can’t stop listening. Re: sunset in the midwest: 4:30-ish CST; 5:30-ish EST.

I don’t know if anyone who had a wristband was abandoned, bereft of autograph in GR, Mich the other day. The mall in Kentwood is at least very large, roomy, and covered, so at least people wouldn’t have been wet and angry. Apparently, they book her for two hours at a time, and then all it a day. So either they need to keep people moving, or they should cut the number to 750 from 1000. I dunno. I’d prefer that some of the true believers have their faith shaken at about 10 on the Richter scale.

Not only Sarah. Rick Santorum, using a made-up gravely voice out of some Marines movie from 1943, talked about how our brave troops fought and died in WW II and they stood up and made the ultimate sacrifice and so on. Then said, can you stand up? Can you sign a check for Rick Santorum?

    It was a classic.

The question to all of us is, ‘How much are we willing to fight to maintain this great country?’ I always find it remarkable that the men and women who are serving in the armed services, who are out there sacrificing tonight, and God bless them, that they – they volunteer. They step forward. In time of war, they step forward.

Cuz we have a culture now that doesn’t say ‘Serve.’ It doesn’t say ‘Don’t think about yourself.’ It says ‘Me, me, me.’ It’s a very self-absorbed, me-centered, excessive popular culture.

And yet we have brave men and women who are willing to step forward because they know what’s at stake. They’re willing to sacrifice their lives for this great country.

What I am asking all of you tonight, is not to put on a uniform. Put on a bumper sticker. Is it that much to ask? Is it that much to ask to step up and serve your country, to fight for what we believe in. To fight for the values that have made this the country the greatest count- we got here not because we were doing things really wrong, that our traditions and our morals were way out of whack, we got here because we were a good, decent county. A country guided by divine Providence.

We will only stay that great country if we continue that fight. I’m asking ya to help me do that. God Bless you. Thank you.”

    Arakasi Says:

I know that the thread is dead, but I wanted to just show some contrast –

A couple of years ago, Terry Pratchett came to the National Book Festival in DC. We got in line for his autograph with our then 2 year old son (it wasn’t so bad – we were on the National Mall, so my wife & I took turns taking him for walks. He was tired, but not upset by the wait). We were waiting for hours, and every 15 minutes or so, the volunteers came by the lines and told us the rules: one book per person and signatures only – no dedications.

When we finally got to the front of the line about an hour after the signing was supposed to end, Mr. Pratchett had a bag of frozen peas on his wrist, and he still said – “Wait a minute – any kid that young who waited for me that long deserves a dedication”, and he signed my son’s copy of “Where’s My Cow” with “Dear Evan: Here’s your cow. T.P”.

It was a little thing – it took him all of 15 seconds to do. But he did it while in pain at the end of a very long day, for the sake of someone who probably won’t even know who he is for another 5 years. He did it because his fans are important to him.

Would anyone like to take a bet on Palin doing something similar?
