Open Thread – Just Plain Nutz
It’s technically Friday, and that means that the week I’ve been dreading for over a month is almost at an end. I pretty much wrote this week off except for blogging Palin’s book. It’s become slower going, but I continue to make progress. Unlike in Alaska, there’s a bookstore in Santa Cruz that has an amazing sense of humor. This is from Geoffrey Dunn at the Huffington Post who tells us about the bookseller and the hilarious snack food “Sarah Palin’s Just Plain Nutz.”
For those who can’t stomach Palin’s duplicitous work of fiction, the one-ounce bag of walnuts is available for $3.98 and can also be ordered at www.bookshopsantacruz.com.
“Our bag of nuts is an honest one ounce; it’s also good for you, and won’t cause you to feel compelled to go out and shoot a moose. Sarah’s new book of fictions is none of those things,” says Bookshop owner Casey Coonerty Protti. “We felt we needed to strike a balance.”
Bookshop Santa Cruz has a long history of commenting on political books. In 1993, Bookshop Santa Cruz weighed Rush Limbaugh’s book, See I Told You So, and sold it for the price of baloney. In 1995, when Newt Gingrich was named Time magazine’s Man of the Year, Bookshop Santa Cruz sold each copy of his book, Contract With America, along with a custom-made barf bag.

A bookshop in Santa Cruz, like the name implies! Please!
-a native Santa Cruzan
LOL that made my morning
Palin fatigue must be setting in for everybody !
A free custom-made barf bag with each copy of Newt Gingrich’s book? LOL!
Hi yinz guys!! After this week, my brain is tired also. My heart is happy, because of all the wonderful people I get to “meet” as I go around the Internet. A big shout out to AKM, Shannyn, Gryphen, Linda, and “all the rest” for your good work and your grace.
I am putting my hopes in the words of Rachel Maddow, who said this week that Palin will remain a place holder, until the GOP decides who will run for 2012. I just hope they decide sooner than later, because Palin seems to get more ludicrous (definition 2 in “The Synonym Finder” by J.I.Rodale) each day.
Im so getting these
Ok, I had to check to make sure. I used to live in Santa Cruz, CA, so I thought that bookstore sounded familiar. It is in Santa Cruz, not San Diego, which is several hundred miles south of the Monterey Bay.
Here is something else they sold in their store (so typical of the Santa Cruz mentality):
Before the 2008 election, Bookshop Santa Cruz manufactured and sold over 65,000 George Bush Countdown Clocks to help depressed Americans know that there would be an end to the national nightmare that was the Bush administration. Clocks have been sold to fans in China, Germany, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, England and New Zealand, and have sold in over 80 outlets across the country. Many famous people had the clock including Former President Bill Clinton, the Dixie Chicks and US Senator Barbara Boxer.
Hahahahahahahahahah!! God, I miss living there. Now I live in a military town in the hot, hot desert. I may actually be the only democrat (pumping fist in the sky).
WUA beat me to the geography correction. Bookshop Santa Cruz is a GREAT store and one of our fav’s. Even more favorite now with Sarah’s Nutz! (If that’s possible to be even ‘more favorite’.) I don’t think that they are actually inferring that Sarah has testicles in an allegorical reference to “nuts”. Perhaps it is a tribute to her steadfastness in the face of ….stuff; recalling Gen McAuliffe’s terse response to the German offer of US surrender at Bastogne. That must be it.
Hey, The Atlantic’s Andrew Sullivan Mentions Mudflat’s SP Book Coverage! http://bit.ly/4j2Wer
These would make GREAT stocking stuffers, thanks, AKM!
AKM, congratulations on the shoutout from Sullivan at The Daily Dish! That is a major confirmation of what we already know about the value of your efforts and this blog.
And, please, AKM, pull your Mudflats shop from CafePress. Not only did they make a decision to continue carrying the Psalm 109 merchandise (which is hate speech in the guise of a coffee mug) but they did this after initially deciding the material was improper and should be pulled.
Please consider Zazzle as an alternative as I for one will not be buying anything from CarePress.
Also, to add injury to insult, CafePress published my email and everyone else’s who complained all over the internets by sending multiple “reply all” customer service emails. (They are continuing to publish everyone’s emails.) Given that the complaint centered around this merchandise as encouragement for unhinged people to commit violence, those are not people I want my email dangled in front of.
Even funnier that they are walnuts. Out on the intertubes, McCain’s nickname is Walnuts. Subtle but hilarous.
On Morning Joe they were defending the President!!
Huckabee said the personal attacks should stop and other Republicans should speak out against this smearing of the President.
Then the entire panel, including Joe, said he is a good man, good husband, good father, these attacks on him and the office of the President should stop.
I was in shock and realized we never usually hear anything good about him and he is a GOOD man.
Maybe tide is turning against the Teabaggers?
AKM, are you going to switch from cafe express to zazzle?

I too hope you will be making the move to Zazzle ASAP.
No Mudpuppy dollars should be going to a company that’s okay with selling stuff wishing our President dead and his wife a widow.
BTW, I called CafePress today and left a message expressing my digust at their decision and my pledge never to buy another thing from them. Hope others do too:

In honor of Palin’s publicity tour and the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday, I say we create a big intertubes revivial of Sarah Palin’s infamous turkey slauder speech. Let’s remind people of the idiot (like they need a reminder since she proves this point every time she opens her mouth), that is Sarah Palin.
Maybe even a compilation video of the turkey video and every stupid thing she has said since last Novemeber.
I too am outraged that CafePress reversed their decision on this. I’ll be calling them today, thanks for the number, Bea.

Pauline in UK posted this at the end of the last open thread, but it’s worth reposting. If you haven’t read this, its well worth the time.
I’m sure that some imaginative bookstore can market the book this week along with some sort of a turkey promotion for Thanksgiving? Any suggestions?
While we are making calls, the number for Fort Bragg is 910-907-5290. I just spoke to a very nice man there (who sounded pretty unplussed about Quitty’s visit, FYI) who told me the event is being sponsored by the PX (aka the base’s store) and that no tax dollars are funding the event.
He IS logging all the calls he gets, so it’s worth taking a minute to POLITELY express your distaste for her presence there.
My neighbor told me about this yesterday ( I live just a few miles north of Santa Cruz)..STILL not enough inducement to get me to buy !! Costco put a large stack out yesterday..only ONE person observed to approach the pile after 40 min….she embarassedly walked away….

hello gang…
isn’t it time for the bloggers’ choice award?
how do we get mudflats nominated?
anyone????
McCain might just be the latest casualty in the GOP civil war. By his empowerment of the conservative right by unleashing Palin, he may be closer to the unemployment line than he had ever imagined.

OMG is right! How much would I LOVE to see McNasty get teabagged in the primary by Quitty’s insane clown posse?!?
Well Santa Cruz looks like a good place to move to if Quitty ever does (gag) hold another public office. In the mean time I’m going to attempt to have a completely Paylin-free weekend before my head explodes from crazy overload. Hope you all have a good weekend, whatever you do!
Just ordered my Palin is Nutz bag of nuts from Santa Cruz! It is going in my stocking to me from Santa Claus! I hope by the time I retrieve it from my stocking on Christmas morning, it will be but a reminder (I can hope can’t I?) of these past months and the real nut will be off the radar. I hope I can figure out how to tune into Moore Up North Saturday night. I am one of the ones who’s connection kept going out this past week. Don’t know what to do about Cafe Press. I sent them an email yesterday and I cursorily checked out Zazzle. We have to keep vigilant against the perpetrators of the hate in this country and those who are allowing it.
I just backed up and read the post on “SP’s Death Panel.” Loved it. Again, I hope I can be there for that one Saturday night.
Thanks Bea, for cleaning up that link.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/20/exxon-lawyer-palins-accou_n_365140.html
New on Huffpo. Lawyer from Exxon case calls Palin’s recalling of the account as Bull******. Said she wasn’t even involved. The lies keep growing.
I too contacted cafepress and expressed my displeasure about the flip-flop, and let them know that I wouldn’t be purchasing anything from them. They compare this merchandise with things such as “Impeach Bush”. How far off the mark can they be? I pointed out to them, that though I was never a Bush supporter, I would have objected to merchandise that called for praying for his death as well. Using scripture to call for the death of any POTUS is way out of line.
I’ve been trying to call Ft. Bragg, but just getting endless ringing. I was finally disconnected. Anyone else having any luck getting through this morning?
I took it as a good sign that lots of people were calling.
Even if the event is sponsored by the PX, the PX is on the base and any security, etc. that they will be providing WILL be taxpayer $.

Interesting. One comment was spot on correct. It said, this is why McCain isn’t coming out strong against Palin’s attacks on the campaign and staffers. He is concerned that she will turn her uber-conservative (ie:teabaggers) against him. His opponant is an ulta-conservative.
The question is, will Palin stay out of this race or support the more moderate McCain?
I just bought the Nutz, 6, for stocking stufffers.

A woodchipper seller could promise a free Palin book with every chipper purchased, provided the purchaser tests the product by using the book.
Or a turkey producer could promise a free Palin book to use as stuffing with every 20 lb’er bought.
Two turkeys for the price of one! Classic!
I’m sure AKM will fix it, but I also paused on the San Diego reference because that was the area Duke Cunningham was from, although the Hillcrest area would be likely to sell something like the NutZ.
I’ve come to the conclusion that Sarah Palin is the Antichrist.
Its nice that there are still some book stores that value, or devalue, literature.
AKM, I hope Alaskan weather allows you and Buf to go Zen shooting after the Palin’s book review marathon is finally over. At least a few hours of peace and beauty to clense the mind.
Whew. It just keeps piling up. This guy minces no words!

Here’s one of the comments under the HuffPost article about Palin’s Exon-Valdez lie:
‘”The apartment was small, with slanting floors and irregular heat and a buzzer downstairs that didn’t work, so that visitors had to call ahead from a pay phone at the corner gas station, where a black Doberman the size of a wolf paced through the night in vigilant patrol, its jaws clamped around an empty beer bottle.”
thats an excerpt from her book. how can someone who writes like this be taken seriously?”
——–
The commenter must be kidding, right? Does anyone who is reading the book know if Palin/Vincent actually penned this dribble?
Okay, one more thing before I get on with my life: any normal person who was caught in so many lies would hang their head in shame and never want to be caught lying again. Not S’error…but then again, I did say “normal”. This lunatic has no shame.

I agree.
I’ve mentioned that in a couple of sites. She comes much closer to the description, than Obama, who if he will just get us the you-know-what out of three wars will be a peace maker.
I know he is facing some major political obstacles and back room politimafia tactics, but the sooner we get it over with the sooner the blow-back will pass. And I really think it will be a huge advantage to the Dims next year to get out of even one war. The sooner we get out the less likely hood the end of timers can create an unending world war.
@ curiouser,
I laughed when another commenter said that she was referring to Todd.
Its nice that there are still some book stores that value, or devalue, literature.
I probably should have said devalue nonliterature.
Ya think?
Isn’t the Book Shop in Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz, CA? I’ve been to the one in Santa Cruz, and they’re great. Santa Cruz is an uber liberal place–more so than Berkeley, and certainly more than San Diego. Their clients would appreciate this type of humor.

$ 63.68/lb for walnuts and Palin’s carton picture. Don’t think so.

Bingo.
Lunatic, being the key word. As I have said, her mental illness is showing.
@Irishgirl — I missed that one. Funny!
I grew up in Monterey Bay area. Santa Cruz is a liberal and awesome place. Have you heard about our own bookseller in Sitka Alaska?
Now, this is mavericky.
An independent bookseller in Sarah Palin’s home state is donating the proceeds he makes off her book to a group that is among the biggest critics of the former Republican vice presidential candidate.
Don Muller owns Old Harbor Books in Sitka. He’s selling Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue,” for $28.99, and says he will donate profits to Defenders of Wildlife.

We live in the Hilltowns of Massachusetts. Twenty miles to the east is Northampton (a progressive town) and twenty miles to the west is Pittsfield (a conservative town). I went into Northampton’s Walmart and NO book by Palin was seen. There was nothing, no set up, nothing.
Can’t wait to go the other way sometime this week and see if the Pittsfield Walmart has it.
At least Northampton’s Walmart knows THEIR base.

You know, I’ve been wondering about the overt sexism in terms of trying to out the Anti Christ. Just how many times is a woman questioned for the big, end all role? I think Sarah Palin fits the bill…or at least she is the embodiment of Ms Fascist USA with her sword/cross in hand and wrapped up in ‘her’ flag.
Thank goodness those teabags aren’t being enticed further- United we stand America…….****do you think they’re noticing how Much money, also too Quitty Pants has pirated from the Gop?
People don’t know what to do about her until it’s too late because she is so clearly and transparently divisive.

Does anyone know this attorney? Maybe he would like to represent a case against the state to get them to release Palin’s emails. I couldn’t tell from the story if he was an attorney for the state or outside counsel.
Has Palin pissed off enough people in Alaska to get some action?
Thanks, this one brightened my day!

A good article by the scholar Diana Butler Bass on Psalm 109:
http://blog.sojo.net/2009/11/17/psalm-1098-a-prayer-to-destroy-obama/
“…the “Prayer for Obama” does more than anticipate that he leaves office; it entreats God to destroy the president. Psalm 109 belongs to a special category of the psalms known as “imprecatory” prayers — it is a lament in the form of petition to destroy one’s enemies. It is the personal prayer of an individual, someone who has been dealt an injustice by another (usually more powerful) person. The words of Psalm 109 are those of deep agony, the longings of a victim for retribution and justice. This psalm is considered one of the most difficult of all the psalms — full of violent images of vengeance and death. Many a biblical critic has struggled with its words, and not a few — including Roman Catholic and mainline Protestant theologians — recommend it not be used in public worship, much less as a bumper-sticker political slogan…” (article continues)
I did not find the Psalm 109:8 anything anymore at CafePress. What I did find was a Psalm 109:3 shirt that states:
They compassioned me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.
The pictures of the 109:8′s are there, but the products are no longer available.
A few folks here were discussing Anti-Christ. Makes for an interesting discussion. Having had my share of bible studies, the Bible explicitly describes the “spirit of anti-christ”. That is the evil spirit that dominates individuals who usher in the man of sin. OK. The fruit of anti-christ is lying, deception, exalts and magnifies himself.
Another interesting point. Serious christians know and believe this: It’s in 1John 4:2-3 – By this you know the Spirit of God; every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God”. I’ve yet to hear SP acknowledge the name of “Jesus”. But, maybe she has in the past. I have yet never heard it acknowledged.
So, in the christian world, someone who doesn’t mention “Jesus” tells them (according to Bible) that this is one of the ways to discern a false teacher from a true one. Thinking christians will look to SP by her actions. Now, she was interviewed on CBN (Pat Robertson) and shared she prays for those shallow folks who blog nasty things about her and her kids. Does she realize that she’s got to apologize and ask for forgiveness from those she targeted in her book, before she can claim she has the authority to PRAY for others?
Sigh……
Just so you-all know, thanks to some good investigative work by some commenters at Daily Kos, some of the people behind the Psalm 109 stuff have been reported to the Secret Service and the FBI.
As was CafePresss. The Secret Service is very good about things that look like their inciting violence against the President. If CafePress has reversed themselves again, it may be because they received a visit.
The point of all this is that it’s time consuming and frustrating to push back against all this hatred and ignorance, and it takes forever to see any kind of result, but if we all keep calling, writing, speaking up, donating, protesting and voting, we really can make this a better country and we really can have better lives for everyone.
Mattie, I believe it will need to be someone in Alaska to steps up to challenge the state of Alaska. In other states, the daily newspaper has sued for failure to release information. Too bad the ADN is in Palin’s pocket that they won’t stand up and be a “real” newspaper.
The question is, why are they still defending Palin after she deserted the state and why won’t speak for the people?
But, I do think that some national coverage would put the state (and Parnell) on notice that people are watching. I also think that Parnell should start being linked to Palin’s lies and this coverup.

This is what it means to live in a democracy – to participate in the conversation, to fight with all your might against those who would destroy our freedoms, those who agitate for overthrow and anarchy to be replaced with total chaos – and, I’ll give you a little hint, it ain’t the current resident of the White House this time around.
Just curious, Anchorage Mudflatters, how is Title Wave book store treating this illiterate event? I wonder how many copies they have and what price they are bringing!
Note to “outsiders” of which I am one: Title Wave is a really great book store with some cool people and many, MANY books. It is a “must visit” if you are ever in Anchorage. I end up shipping a box of books back to PA every time I visit! Even Cheechakos are welcome and, even though we have visited Alaska in the winter, I remain on for now.
Liz I, thanks for the update. I do hope that the SS and/or FBI are looking into the people who bought and actually sold the stuff at Zazzle, eBay and Cafe Press. These are the dangerous ones.
As for Cafe Press, their vacillation for even a moment speaks volumes of who they really are. Me thinks they are your typical Sillycon Valley types like Meg Whitman who was to busy focused upon herself to even vote for decades.
Since CafePress seems to have a amoral stance I’m planning on boycotting them and will use other sites that have demonstrated good common sense and stopped anyone from advocating the assassination of anybody as soon as they were made aware.
I do hope that AKM plans to increase the options for merchandise to Zazzle, Printperfection or ???
I do not like that Cafe Press pulled the whole “freedom of speech” thing because no one was trying to take away their rights, people just asked that they show caution. I think it speaks volumes about their integrity that they would put the products back online while dismissing concerns so cavalierly. I bought my O-44 mug from them just in time for the inauguration. That’s the last thing I will buy from them.
I am boycotting Cafe Press as well. Public pressure via dollars, may be one way of educating people to re-think and adjust their beliefs on common decency and morality. I wanted to boycott Harper Collins, but it would hurt the good authors that they publish.
@ 63 rebekkah, The whole “Christian” support of Palin is confusing to me. I grew up among Evangelicals and have family members who are still Evangelical (Assemblies of God—like Palin). They can’t stand Palin and think she is un-Christ-like and mean.
Yet, she seems to be the poster child for Dobson, Roberts, etc.
In typical Palin fashion, I wonder if she will divide the Evangelicals just like everyone else she divides.
I am also wondering if they are so “drunk” with the idea of power, that they are overlooking some very obvious holes in Palin’s story.
My X-husband’s family are all third generation Assemblies of God. You did not say Hell, unles you were talking about the place sinners will spend eternity. Yet, Palin’s, “Hell, yes”, shout out didn’t seem to raise any eyebrowns. Nor did the reports that she drank champagne in NYC (not a big deal to most, but a huge NO-NO among Evangelicals). Then, on Barbara Walters she said back-asswards. A polite way of swearing, but this would be considered swearing among my family members and I couldn’t say it without getting the evil eye. Throw in all of her lies and really nasty remarks in her book and it doesn’t seem to add up to “Christian” behavior of love and forgiveness.
How is it that they are still supporting her? I’m just confused. But, I also do wonder who many other Evangelicals are like my family and don’t care for her.
Fort Hood is treating SP as a private citizen/celebrity with all privileges of a regular citizen at her book signing stop there. Public Affairs officer said, Fort Bragg may have over-reacted with the limitations they set at her stop at their base.

Hey…guess what? Sarah is actually coming to the “fake” part of Virginia, Fairfax to be exact, to do a book signing just a mere few miles from where I live on Saturday, December 5th (ewww, I think I threw up in my mouth a little)! I plan on going and doing a peaceful protest with some clever signs outside of the BJ’s Wholesale Club in the Fair Lakes Shopping Center and maybe questionaing some Palinbots for a You Tube video.
Any Mudflatters in Northern Virginia, DC, and suburban Maryland are welcome to join me! I plan on getting there at 9:00 am. The event is from 11:00 to 2:00.
I don’t care if I am the only one, just so the media knows that we Fake Virginians sent Sarah back to Alaska last year and we wish she would stay there!
Please send in sign suggestions on this thread thanks!
Don’t forget to send pics and a report to my email! And that goes for any Mudflatters out there who are planning on attending a Palin event! akmuckraker(at)yahoo(dot)com! AKM

@73 trisha – I agree that most Evangelicals would cringe at the word “Dang”… I think a lot of her followers aren’t even part of a “Christian” base (she doesn’t even acknowledge Jesus as her Savior). Most of them have been saying: “She’s just like us!” So, that should tell us a lot.
Call to fellow mudpuppies — Canadians would be especially appreciated — check out these pieces of excrement printed recently in our local, the Calgary Herald:
http://www.calgaryherald.com/opinion/Obama+should+learn+proper+protocol/2240571/story.html
http://www.calgaryherald.com/business/From+Obama/2196568/story.html
I sent a friendly (maybe not friendly, come to think of it) letter to the editor about these pieces, and other voices raised to keep the fox newz crazy from crossing the border would be appreciated!
Do Christian’s like the word backasswards? Gotta love Barbara Walters’ response to that one.
Whoa, don’t miss this one. Is it for real? Disappointed palinbots are catching on?

Chants of “Sign our books!” “Quitter!” when she drove off after not signing the books for people who’d been waiting loyally all day.
The comments sure sound authentic.
Why is it that all of these traditional family values conservatives see nothing wrong with Sarah supporting her family while the Toad sits on his butt?? Is this what the consevative men get so excited about?A good looking women who lets them stay home, not work, and be a kept man?Is that their secret dream after all of those years professing that men should work and support their families?
Here’s the local newspaper’s article on $arah’s Cincy visit:
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20091120/NEWS0108/311200085
It will be eerily familiar to those who read about her other stops: same MO.
” Palin emerged at the top of the steps to Joseph-Beth’s upper level at 11:57 a.m., carrying her infant child. The crowd let out a loud cheer; Palin handed the baby to an aide, grabbed a microphone and walked halfway down the steps to make a few brief remarks.”
” “Wow, thank you, we are going to have a blast,” Palin said. “Thanks for having the courage to come out here and be with me. I see you out there with those books under your arms and I know you are going rogue with me.” ”
Gag.
And for those who think she is NOT on a pre-campaign tour:
“Signing her name on copies of her new book is only part of what former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will be doing in Cincinnati Friday.
SarahPAC, the former Alaska governor’s political action committee, is holding a private, invitation-only reception Friday morning with local GOP donors at an undisclosed location.
Palin will meet-and-greet the locals before going on to Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Rookwood Pavillion to sign copies of her book “Going Rogue” for three hours.
Hamilton County Republican Party chairman Alex Triantafilou said he got an invite to the SarahPAC event and will drop by, but said the county party had no official part to play.”

We’re not “FAKE AMERICANS” and we ARE REAL MAD
There are a lot of analogies floating around about how the Senate health care bill compares in size to other notable writings. Republicans have been hyping them all day.
I sure do like your Senator Begich!
From Crooks & Liars:
Here’s a new one from the Democratic arsenal: Sarah Palin’s book, which runs 413 pages.
“This bill if you put in regular type style is about the same size as Sarah Palin’s book,” said Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska). “So it is not that big. There is a lot of show and tell and razzmatazz.”
Which would be a better read?
“Depends if you want substance or not,” he said.
Ooo, good one, Lil! Go Begich!
Off to go read Crooks & Liars…
An open challenge to Mudflatters:
I would love to see someone swap dust jackets between “Going Rogue” and “Going Rouge.” Take the ersatz “Going Rogue” – i.e., a Rouge in Rogue clothing, as it were – and get Sarah Palin to sign a copy. If you were deep in line, it might be possible. She spends but a few seconds signing each copy, so if you had the book open to the end page (no title page!), the ruse might work.
What would the only Palin autographed copy of “Going Rouge” be worth? It would be priceless.
It would necessarily mean purchasing a copy of Palin’s book to get the dust jacket, but how cool would it be to dupe Palin?
It would be very hard not to yell “Moron!” if within shouting distance of Palin, but to be able to hoodwink her so would be very cool indeed.

I think this link has already been posted to a Christian scholar’s essay. She quotes C.S. Lewis:
In his marvelous book, Reflections on the Psalms, C.S. Lewis observed:
“In some of the Psalms the spirit of hatred which strikes us in the face is like the heat from a furnace mouth. In others the same spirit ceases to be frightful only by becoming (to a modern mind) almost comic in its naivety. Examples can be found all over the Psalter, but perhaps the worst is in 109″ (p. 20).
Lewis suspects that it may be best to leave such psalms alone. But then he says that we must face “facts squarely.”
“The hatred is there — festering, gloating, undisguised — and also we should be wicked if we in any way condoned or approved it, or (worse still) used it to justify similar passions in ourselves” (p. 22).
Lewis refers to these psalms as horrible, devilish, cruel, hateful, and evil. He believes that Psalm 109 — and the poetry of its kind in the psalter — should point us back to the evil we carry within and teach us each how to behave with goodness, humility, and love.
The Christian Science Monitor has quotes from a civil liberties wonk to the effect that we can’t really predict if this will incite violence, unless of course, violence is incited.
Trisha; I’m confused too as to why they support her. In my christian walk, I’ve seen things that have dissillusioned me, and the Sarah phenomenon made me ask questions about the validity of men’s teaching.
Coming here on Mudflats got me back on track, realizing how shallow some elements in the church had become. The election changed my thinking in how democrats and moderates showed more “christian” attributes than christians themselves.
There’s a small select crowd of the “prophetic” nature lately that have mixed politics into their “prophecies”, the same ones that write books on abundance, prosperity, 5 ways to get God’s attention…..all that stuff. They pawn the bible’s teaching off and sell it for a price. DVD’s, conferences, they’re just as greedy as the world they claim is ungodly. There are tapes, books on prophetic utterances…..by prophetic women, men who have even prophesied about Sarah Palin, that she may become a great leader, and that Alaska was a spiritual gateway to a new era.
Don’t have a clue as to those who follow SP, if they have access to this brand of fundamentalists, but it’s thankfully a small portion of people who buy this stuff, and like you said, your family in the Assemblies of God, are reasoning people, and most I know are too. They don’t buy the hype.
This is one of the more frightening articles I’ve read lately (of course, I had just listened to the montage of sound bites on The Daily Beast of conservative radio talkies telling their audience in which way they were being raped by the administration so my mood may have been influenced by that):
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/11/poll-obama-still-beats-palin-and-other-gopers-but-palin-improves-a-little.php
The idea that her percentage has improved boggles the mind. How can anyone in their right mind think that she is qualified to be President? Maybe 2012 will be the end of days.
Mo @ 84 – disappointed Palinbots – that was a great find!!
Definitely check out the link that Mo posted @84.
FireDogLake also had the video posted and included this :
***Meanwhile, the ‘Cuda’s beloved Facebook page is getting bombarded with angry posts like this.
My family (wife, 3year old, and 10 year old) and I waited for 6 hours to get a book signed by Sarah Palin tonight. She left 300 folks standing in the rain and cold without explanation or even an address at exit. That is 1800 hours of voters lives sacrificed for nothing due to lack of concern by another politician for… our time, money and effort to see a cause through. She could have invested 45 minutes and not received the boos, or sign my book chants. I know that the majority of the folks that were chanting go Palin now are returning her books tomorrow morning. What a disappointment. ****
Ouch! When you can get your adoring fans peeved at you, that’s just not a good sign!

Psalm 109:8 update
This morning we made the decision to remove all Psalms 109:8 designs from CafePress.
The public debate started with questioning if the design was simply intended to be criticism of the President or something much worse. The discourse was surprisingly civil online, given the heated nature of the topic. Given that, and the positions of groups like the ACLU and the Anti-Defamation League, we decided to let the dialogue play out publicly before making a final decision.
Last night we posted a poll on our blog, read through the emails we’ve received and weighed the nature of the calls we’ve received on the topic. In the process we also learned that many of the original designers of the Psalm 109:8 designs had already decided to remove them on their own.
General consensus has proven that the design does point to a broader interpretation of the Psalm and thus has been deemed inappropriate for sale at CafePress.
We try to create an atmosphere of self-expression. Many of the things we encounter are not black and white, but grey. When the dialogue is civil, we want to let the larger community work things out rather than making an uninformed ruling. The dialogue has played out and common sentiment has reached agreement – this merchandise is not appropriate.
Thank you all for your input.

Andrew Halcro has some important things to say here:
http://www.andrewhalcro.com/permafrost_friday_a_hair_raising_week
I don’t think Quitty wants to be President some day.I think her attention to fundraising for the GOP,after screwing them in NY23,shows that she wants Michael Steeles job.I am sure they will give it to her .After all,she sucks as a half term Governor, she lost in the last Presidential race, she really sucks as an aothor, what other skills does she have to market except fundraising?
Mo, that clip and the FB comments are priceless. It’s one thing for her supporters to hear that she’s bailed on the Simi Valley ladies or the Alaskan Family Council or the republican congressional dinner, or Alaska for that matter — but when the faithful are personally dissed by their Queen they’re not going to blame it on Meg Stapleton.
It’s always nice when finally, some of the wingnuts come to their senses. Even for a brief glorious moment.
Wonkette has a great story with links on The Quitter leaving her Nobleville, Indiana book-signing with 300 books unsigned. Wow. She can’t even do a book-signing without quitting in the middle of it. Priceless!
rebekkah, thanks for your insights.
Personnally, I think the downfall has been the decision of the Evangelicals to try and “infiltrate” goverment.
Politics is a blood sport and that’s why religion and politics make good bedfellows. It leads to too much deception and willingness to win at any cost.
Why can’t they work on social issues like helping feed hungry children and helping the abused and lonely. They ignore these and focus their attention on political hot buttons like abortion and gays and opposing healthcare for the poor.
Aren’t there better things they could be doing with their money than sending it to pay for Palin’s legal bills (Dobson send her amost 200K).
Interesting how quickly her people turned. How quickly they angered when she didn’t do as she promised and they were directly affected. Maybe they are realizing something? Wonder how many unsigned copies of books were found in the parking lot after everyone left?
Palin will just blame her handlers.
God love ya, you were so brave fer comin’ out to see me. I wanted to stay in the star-spangled rain and signed every one of your books, Bless your hearts, but the back assward bus driver was leavin’ town without me, don’t ya’ know, and, well, also, as you know….it’s never my fault.
ALERT (Good News) Palin BOOED at Indiana book signing tour.

I notice that FauxNews was busted again by using misleading file footage, this time from a Palin rally last year, to make it seem that there was more excitement on the Palin “Going Rogue” World Tour. It was an easy catch. The footage FauxNews used show a teleprompter – you know, those things that Palin never used. Also lots of “Country First” signage.
Palin hasn’t been employing teleprompters at any of these events because they are not large venues in which she could speak to the unwashed masses. She’s in bookstores. The real hoot is, they didn’t even need to hype the tour, what with 1,500 sheeple willing to camp out to see Queen Sarah.
I don’t know if anyone has posted this .
Go to Kos Palin quit on some of her fans in Indianna .

96 Kate, thanks for the quote from a Cafe Press PR person who is trying to stop the exodus from Cafe Press.
Well, guess what, these weasel words make me even more determined to never, ever do business with them again. There is nothing to debate when some design implies that the Obama children should be fatherless and Michelle a widow.
This press release should have an apology not some justification/excuses because they realized that they are losing business.
I have followed this story and I haven’t seen any statement from either ACLU or ADL.
Wow, what a surprise that she would quit. Wonder what kind of (lie) excuse she’ll have for those left out in the cold. I guess she thought she was so well loved by her fans that anything she did would be forgiven.

“On Wednesday in a surprise move, the man Palin hired to study an in-state gas line resigned his position. Lawmakers say he was forced out because of pressure from DNR Commissioner Tom Irwin who viewed Noah’s work as a threat to his AGIA project.
Irwin was hired under Palin and has done more than any other DNR Commissioner in recent history to risk the state’s economic future by tying Alaska’s gas pipeline hopes to his ego and a failing strategy that Palin has very Palin-esqly termed competition.”

I know this is “Off Topic” — but to me it fits right in with Palin Nutz. This is the message I sent to Cafepress Customer service Dep’t.
I will no longer order ANYTHING from ANY vendor through CafePress. Because your site allows Obama Psalm 109:8 materials, I can no longer have ANY of my money going to you. I was an Obama supporter, as I voted for George W. Bush — i don’t care who the President is, this type of hate speech and wishing for the President’s death is inexcusable and I refuse to support any group or vendor (including you as the site host) who allows and implicitly supports this type of “call to action”.
Sorry to be sending you no more money and sorry that you did not exercise better judgment.

For a Fan in Ca #124 re Psalm
Quotes from ACLU and ADL reps are given in the article at the Christian Science Monitor. The ADL rep is particularly senseless, I think.
“If they’re just referring to him being out of office, that’s one thing. If they’re referring to him being dead, that’s so offensive. It’s protected speech, but it’s clearly offensive.”
http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/11/16/biblical-anti-obama-slogan-use-of-psalm-1098-funny-or-sinister/
Ah, Scruz. Possibly my favorite place on Earth.
@124 A fan in CA:
As another fan in CA, I share your view of Cafe Press. If they had to do a poll to figure out that the Ps 109 stuff was objectionable, they are prima facie worthless.
No more business from me.
I came to this blog, through a friend of mine’s pages, PenniD, over at NewsVine, and I was told of all the Sarah Palin “cliff notes” that you had on your pages.
Judging from what I have read so far, it seems that you don’t take kindly to Palin, and all the fanfare she has been getting lately in the heartland, and one of the examples that you posted about: Alaska being #2 in hunger, in the US.
Surprisingly, I saw North Dakota at the bottom of the list at #51! (I thought there were only 50 states, but I guess you have to count DC as a separate state, for these purposes.)
Anyway, I shouldn’t be so surprised that North Dakota IS at the bottom of the list, as they appear to be one of four states, that are not running a budget deficit. I forget what the other four are.
The reason as to why, (reading from numerous sites pointing to this anomaly) is the way North Dakota handles the state’s BANKING and Financial matters (they have their own state bank, and handle matters in certain ways, counter to all the other states)
What does this have to do with hunger? Well, It could be because North Dakota’s bank is a Farmer’s bank. and the way that they handle
food-financials in that state, and the fact that the State government uses that bank as their bank for payroll, accounts, and what-ever-else.
(but I suppose you could come up with better reasons than I.)
Anyway…I’d like to take a moment and ask if you saw Defeat the Debt’s YT site, lately. Sure, those doing research about the organization will report that it’s Berman’s front for the Corporate Lobbying that he’s doing, for Corporations that want not to see the minimum wage raised. I’ve seen numeroous websites claiming that Berman is a snake, a shyster, whatever…but, perhaps, like you, my first exposure to Berman was through watching the “Pledge” video…seeing all those kids pledge allegiance to America’s National Debt, “and to the Chinese government that lends us money”
And amidst all the “China OWNS us” crap that keeps getting chanted like some drunken prayer, in the media. I decided to actually do something about it: submit to Berman a solution!
Here’s my whole idea: What if…we could pay off the national debt…with just ONE COIN? Sounds too impossible to even take a second to think about it?
Here…try this idea: What if…we took the whole tax burden that America now pays to, not only service the national debt, as well as the government services, that we “enjoy” (:-/), and,
take it OFF the shoulders of working americans, be they rich or poor, or whatever…increase it up 100-FOLD, and place it on the shoulders of the Federal Reserve Corporate Entity?
And through simple paperwork (Fed sending promissory note to Treasury, and Treasury sending the “COIN” or the “Tax Credit Certificate”), done in whatever government offices, This “Coin” that I speak about, will help to do EXACTLY what I said it would do! And Government no longer needs to float another BOND (savings or otherwise) to obtain funds to pay for anything, meaning that THE DEBT, STOPS GROWING!
In other words, we use our central bank to be the “beast of burden” that Congress, unwittingly, made it to be.
Doesn’t anyone here realize that when Congress made the FED, and the IRS in 1913 Congress made the very tools that it COULD HAVE USED to create money DEBT-FREE, AND without having to take from your pockets to do it!
Sure doesn’t seem like it, now, does it? Well, it’s probably because of hard-headed backward thinking, from all involved parites. The misplaced sense of justice, when we utter “Pay your FAIR SHARE”, because no one thinks anyone else is doing that, and everyone thinks they themselves are paying UNFAIR SHARES…
Here. Let me stop here, and let you go and look at my proposal. It’s in the channel comments over at http://www.youtube.com/defeatthedebt, right underneath the video, at the bottom of the channel page.
Again, my internet handle is Kapt. Blasto, and you can find my little? messages at various places across the web by googling my handle “kapt blasto” and reading whatever you want to read. Yes you’ll find my missives on a whole plethora of things, and even previous thoughts concerning the FED and the IRS, that has been transformed into what I’m proposing now.
