    Hi all!

Don’t know ’bout all of you, but I am sick to death of hearing about Ms. ex-gov and her magical mystery tour. That the media have swooped down on her and covered her to the hilt has me pretty upset.

She doesn’t deserve it, does she? Who SAYS she’s so important???? Or are WE the crazy ones?

I was wondering about you the other day when AKM had a picture of all that snow coming down.
I hope you and the people of Eagle are bundled up tight for Winter.
Maybe you can give us all an Update with a personal post and a story about how the construction went. Did Parnell do anything to help the people of Eagle..?

YBG, great to see you! So, did Eagle “like” the pressure washer, find it function-able? Did the town get rebuilt? We’ve had to rely on the Mennonites for what morsels of info, but it seems they headed out last Oct. Maybe the “tubes” shut down when the road was apparently closing?

Not sure I plan to donate this next winter when all the cries come for help needed in Alaska. I feel like a chump.

I agree about the non Scarah day. But I did send pics and some notes from the Wash PA meeting.

Recommend an op ed article aby Frank Rich about Scara. The NYT. Here’s one quote below:

“Even by the standard of politicians, this is a woman with an outsized ego. Combine that with her performance skills and an insatiable hunger for the limelight, and you can see why she will not stay in Wasilla now that she’s seen 30 Rock. ”

His other comments are well worth the read. My yesterday sojourn into book tour fairy land are not just about her, but about the adoration and blind idiocy of her devoted followers. Rich discusses this very well.

Another topic though is how much I love Alaska and its wilderness. I have always wanted to visit, long before this political scene arrived. My ideal trip would be outside of the cities. There is so much about Alaska that is unique and wonderful. It’s absolutely breathtaking.

It just occurred to me that Simple Sarah really thinks she has the answer to (choke, gag) being president, Sarah-style. She claims that big government is the cause of all societal ills, so elect me and I’ll let everything run itself. Then when everything ends up in the crapper, it can’t be her fault. If anyone missed lovemydogs comment (#52) on yesterday’s Chapter Four (part 2 of 3) post, please go check it out. She talks about her education and how people like her are being branded as ‘elitist’ by those who promote and support people like Palin and GWB.

During the last three presidential campaigns, it always amazed me that people were so thrilled to support someone ‘just like them’. I’m an intelligent, college-educated (BS and MA degrees) woman who’s held highly responsible jobs running large programs and organizations. I managed budgets in the million dollar range, supervised large staffs and coordinated huge events with many different agencies and thousands of volunteers. While, unfortunately, I’ve never made much money, my name was known and respected across the country in my particular field, and I was recruited by numerous people to consult and lecture in my area of expertise.

    HOWEVER…

I have enough respect and understanding of the overwhelming responsibility of the office of POTUS, that I wouldn’t dream of supporting someone like myself for that job. I don’t WANT someone who has a similar educational and experiential background making decisions that can affect the entire nation, and, in turn, the entire world.

I want someone who is so smart that I can’t always understand what they’re saying, and who has forgotten more about government, law, economics, energy and political science than I will ever know. AND, I want someone who is also smart enough to know what they DON’T know and willing to gather experts in those fields to advise them.

While I acknowledge that it’s also important for the POTUS to be able to relate to ‘regular’ people and have empathy for their struggles, I don’t WANT my president to be ‘regular’. It’s just too difficult and important a job for anyone less than extraordinary.

I loved the photo of the lovely cow. I have a little extra money this year, and decided to buy a heifer for the “Heifer International” project this year. When I called in my donation Friday, I asked the nice young operator to make sure my money bought a “pretty one”. I’ve never bought a cow before, and your photo will help me imagine mine as she goes off to help some poor family make their life better.

Hi, EVEREEEEBODEEEEEEE!!! Ah, just like walkin’ back into your favorite little coffee shop after a long vacation ……

For those who asked, we’re doing pretty well in Eagle. All those who were displaced did get into homes before winter, although there’s still interior work to do. (For instance, our own house still doesn’t have a kitchen or drinking water. But the well is working, so we have indoor plumbing, a shower and water for dishes. Hub is working on kitchen cabinets now – will be a while since we’re tiling the countertop.)

It was the incredible response of volunteers, donations, charities, federal and (even) state govt. that made the recovery a success. You guys were such a huge part of that … we can never thank you enough.

I probably won’t be commenting much yet, as there’s still a lot to do. But did just want to pop in and send {{{{hugs}}}} to you all!

What people forgetr is that Kennedy,as a Catholic, was hated by the extremists right in the same way Obama,a black man is hated by them, for much the same reasons. Years later, being Catholic is still in the minority in office.Years from now,we will probably not have another black President for a long time.If the reactionary right manages to keep him from office in 2012,so be it,but dear God please ,please find someone who does not spend their time on petty adolecent squabbles and lies, lies, lies!!

I was a Republican(The shame!!!) It was McCains choice of Quitter Palin that changed that .I would not have had this change of heart had he chosen someone else.Any of his other choices would not have caused the panic driven rush to the internet to research this diva after her snarky, mean, childish display at the convention.
pawlenty?Lightweight but he would do if something happened to McCain.Huckabee? Not my cup of tea,but I was not terrified.Romney?kind of like my xboss, too pretty and not really involved, but puts together good teams so not scary.McCain himself? Couldnt be any worse than Bush.Lieberman? He was ok ,since then he has come apart at the seams.

So some good did come from McCains loss,as I figured out that my social viewpoints were more important than my fiscal ones to me,anyway, and I was a better fit in the Dem party.

    SMRNo Gravatar says:

    @mommom-

I’m a recovering Republican as well. CHanged my registration the week after McC picked Palin. That was my wake-up call, I guess, finally realized that the party was no longer about fiscal conservatism, less government, etc etc. Not that the Bush government in any way resembled those core Repub values, but I was overseas for much of that and held out hope for the 2008 elections to return the party to sanity. Ha! I was not going to vote for McC, but my husband would have. My husband would not vote for a ticket with her name on it for love or money. Anyone with any substantive knowledge of the oil industry in Alaska should know better than to let her get close to any position of power.

I just had that conversation with my mother-in-law today — she was wondering how she managed to raise a Republican (the 3 other kids are staunchly Democrat, as she is, and my late father-in-law was). I would not say that there is the difference between the two parties that there once was in terms of fiscal policies, ironically the Dems seem to be pulling their weight better in those terms. However, as the Repub party has decided to render itself unto God and the base loonies (which frankly should not have anything to do with politics), my husband and I are without a party to identify with. He did not change his registration, likes to be able to talk smack to the religious gop loonies and tell them that he is the real republican, not them. I’ll just be voting my values rather than for or against a particular party, and I don’t see any chance that the gop will restore itself unless/until the “base” fractures to become its own party.

The Kennedy letter that I linked to is an eerie parallel to current times, similar to the Vietnam-Afghanistan parallels that exist.

Last week I saw a clip of Larry King. He had a panel of 4 guests on and they were talking about Sarah and her ‘ accomplishments ‘.One was James Carville, one other liberal voice and the two Palin supporters were Kristan Cole and a female GOP pundit E.J. Cup. I thought the panel choice was a little unusual. I had no idea who Cup was ( she resembles a sort of a ‘perky’ Katie Couric as it turns out) but Kristan Cole has been hidden away since the AFT discussion where she was ‘ SUPPOSED TO ‘ have made public the AFT financial disclosure.
Cup defended Sarah ( bragging) and she used as part of the list of her accomplishments… she was governor of the LARGEST State. This is not the first time I have heard a Palin defender use this Fact as an accomplishment to her resume like this was something special .( they would LIKE TO have you believe this )
The total population of AK is about 700K +.
The online info for the State of Delaware ( one of the smallest ) shows a total population of about 881K.
So… in the mind of Palinbots how is the ‘physical size’ relevant to the conversation…? It isn’t… but they like to use it as such.
Since there are more people in one of the smallest States, Delaware, we could logically say the Governor of Delaware has a harder job. ( more people )
Do you really think the Delaware Gov. would try to make a case like THAT?

What it really says is that they are really grasping for ANYTHING to make a case for their cause. Because they have nothing else. The cupboard is bare.
