Open Thread – Death Race. (I Won. Barely.)

25 11 2009

cinema

This is a picture I took in Wasilla the week Sarah Palin was selected as John McCain’s running mate. It seemed appropriate somehow back then, but now even more so, because I am finished with Going Rogue. I read the whole thing cover to cover.  I have done it, and I still live and breathe. I have won the Palin Death Race, dragging my sorry carcass over the finish line by my fingernails.  And I didn’t even stab my eyes out with a fork.  Mama Mia indeed.  And wasn’t there some reference in the Bible somewhere to somebody from Babylon?  I can’t remember. Because, even though I’m alive, my brain is mush.

I will put up my last summary of Chapter 6, The Epilogue, and the Acknowlegments tomorrow.  Right now, I’m going to crawl upstairs and become unconscious as quickly as possible.

But my brain is not so mushy that I didn’t notice the Arctic Cat logo in the background of the picture.  Who could have known how very funny this quick snapshot would turn out to be.

I also photographed the MatSu when my family and I made our once in a life time pilgrimage from Pittsburgh to the Wonderful World of Wasilla in June 09. I was also amused by the Artic Cat dealership. Showing that week were ANGELS AND DEAMONS, UP, & LAND OF THE LOST.

    I blame McCaine.

He knows what she is, and he still protects her inspite of her lies about the campaign.

What a dork. I feel complet contempt for him, and it looks like he won’t be Senator for life. Good. Toss him out Arizona.

Today I saw a woman who was the spit of Sarah without botox or Restalyn fillers, brow lifts etc. Though all her features where the same.. looked haggard. Slim, with Sarahs mouth and hair and glasses etc.

A few more years and phttt. Sarah will no longer be the darling of the proles.

Here’s the link to the John McCain story in Rolling Stone. I had heard bits and pieces through the years, but this is an excellent compilation of facts we should all be aware of. Astounding that so many still label him as such a hero, country first, and all that.

I served in the US Navy at the same time as McCain and recall those days and the action of McCain vividly.

No question he was a hot dog. He was a good looking young man. He new it and used it. He was every thing Tom Cruise depicted in the movie Top Gun. The boy did play hard.

When McCain was campaigning, and the lady told him that Obama was an Arab. McCain was fast to say, No he is not! So I must say McCain was not Viet Cong communist collaborator. I don’t agree with McCain politically. I have seen the Viet Cong interview of McCain when he was a POW. I see nothing wrong with that interview or see how it cost any loss of life. And that is how the Navy saw it. Take a look at McCain running for his life in this video. What is not in the video, but is reported in Navy records. Is that McCain stop running long enough to help another pilot off his plane. I did not vote for McCain, but on this one and his days as a POW I think McCain was a Hero. He may be many things, but a communist collaborator he is not.

I read it in the paper so it must be correct?

I also read the Rolling Stone story months ago. The writer used facts and his opinions or undocumented opinions to leave the reader to draw there own conclusions. He alluded to as often as he gave fact. It was a well written hatchet job on McCain. Case in point; when the writer says McCain was one of the first to be taken off the ship with the wounded he implies it is because his father and grandfather are Navy admirals and that McCain was not wounded. McCain was wounded but the writer does not say that. The writer also implied that because of his father, McCain was given R and R in some place like Hawaii. Point, the writer left out that everyone got R and R. This is one of those stories that needs a Paul Harvey debunk for the rest of the store. Because it’s in Rolling Stone does not mean the facts are correctly projected.

Apparently we’re in somewhat of a minority — LOL!

Overall, the proportion saying they are hearing too much about Palin has risen from 38% in July to 52% currently. Virtually all of the increase has come among Democrats and independents. Fully 72% of Democrats say they are hearing too much about Palin, up from 45% in July. Half of independents express this view, up more modestly from 38% four months ago.

Republicans’ views about the amount of coverage of Palin have changed very little from July. As was the case at that time, nearly half of Republicans (48%) say they are hearing the right amount about Palin; 29% say they are hearing too much about the former Alaska governor while 15% say they are hearing too little.

I don’t think there was a question in the poll about why peeps are paying attention to Palin stories. Personally, I love having her in the news. Watching her make an ass of herself makes me realize that I’m hardly stupid at all compared to her!

peter d @107 – I do agree with you that a great deal of it was the author’s opinion, and that there are misconceptions, such as the R&R to Hawaii. My husband also had R&R there during a tour of duty in Viet Nam. I also agree with you that he is a hero as relates to his POW status, and I don’t believe he was a communist sympathizer.

What I do abhor, and there is much truth to it, was his cavalier attitude towards his first wife when she suffered her injuries, and then his taking up with Cindy while still married to the first wife. One’s personal character is more important to me than just about anything else.

I sense a certain cockiness in him, courtesy of his family’s status, and that he did get away with many pecadillos that someone without the McCain name likely would not have.

I do think he has some good qualities, but in the last number of years, there have been documented issues, such as the S&L scandal, then toss the Palin pick into the equation, and I have little respect for the man. He appears to have been a good Senator for many years for Arizonans, but his erratic behavior and statements of recent times, indicates to me that it is time for him to retire or be voted out.

    sauerkraut Says:

    Willy –

Tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, Americans across the country will sit down together, count our blessings, and give thanks for our families and our loved ones.

American families reflect the diversity of this great nation. No two are exactly alike, but there is a common thread they each share.

Our families are bound together through times of joy and times of grief. They shape us, support us, instill the values that guide us as individuals, and make possible all that we achieve.

So tomorrow, I’ll be giving thanks for my family — for all the wisdom, support, and love they have brought into my life.

But tomorrow is also a day to remember those who cannot sit down to break bread with those they love.

The soldier overseas holding down a lonely post and missing his kids. The sailor who left her home to serve a higher calling. The folks who must spend tomorrow apart from their families to work a second job, so they can keep food on the table or send a child to school.

We are grateful beyond words for the service and hard work of so many Americans who make our country great through their sacrifice. And this year, we know that far too many face a daily struggle that puts the comfort and security we all deserve painfully out of reach.

So when we gather tomorrow, let us also use the occasion to renew our commitment to building a more peaceful and prosperous future that every American family can enjoy.

It seems like a lifetime ago that a crowd met on a frigid February morning in Springfield, Illinois to set out on an improbable course to change our nation.

In the years since, Michelle and I have been blessed with the support and friendship of the millions of Americans who have come together to form this ongoing movement for change.

You have been there through victories and setbacks. You have given of yourselves beyond measure. You have enabled all that we have accomplished — and you have had the courage to dream yet bigger dreams for what we can still achieve.

So in this season of thanks giving, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to you, and my anticipation of the brighter future we are creating together.

With warmest wishes for a happy holiday season from my family to yours,

    President Barack Obama

I think you’re being generous, as many other found him not only cookie but quite obnoxious. He was a hand full and his father and grandfather did pave the way for him. No question he got a pass were other would of not.

His first wife ‘Mary” stood by him when he was a POW. She waited and waited for him to make it home telling the Navy not to let McCain know she herself had been badly injured in a car crash. She did not want him to worry about her. McCain come home to a wife 3” shorter, with a permanent limp and overweight. McCain just legally abandon her and ran off with Cindy. I have a hard time with this also.

With so many people coming out and calling her out on all her lies and exaggerations how can her fans be so dismissive of the truth?. I think Sarah believes (with her stone cold heart) that she can smile and wink her way to the White House. What is really scary are her ignorant followers who don’t care to fact-check anything and take her word as gospel. And Sarah is the blind leading the blind.
