Any of you going out to do Christmas shopping today? I always avoid today when I can. A couple of years ago I worked in a craft store in a mall for the first part of the day, and it took me two hours to get out of the parking lot. We are not talking very big lot, either. Thought I was going to run out of gas.

Had a great Thanksgiving with family. Hope you all did too. We didn’t even talk politics, even though we’re all on the same side of the fence. I guess this is a sign we’re more content than I realized; no need to commiserate. Now there’s something to be thankful for.

    Hey . I don,t know how to say this…. but I have a broken neck. A serious fracture… a c2 fracture , type ll . (we’re talking Cristopher Reevees )

I had a fight with my twin sister and she looked me in the eye, then pushed me down the stairs. 14 of them.

The ER wanted to put me in a “Halo” or put screws in my neck, but i said no.

I am so scared. I am wearing a rigid collar ( Miami J) with cloth napkins for extra support. ( a Turkish study says a few of my fracture types healed with a “rigid collar”)

    My mother called only once
and left a voice mail (one week ago) . No more calls to ask about my condition . Not even on Thanksgiving. I am only “thankful” for my dog (shep-husky) and my ex-boyfriend who is looking after me and my “sweet pea”.

My fracture is very scary. it takes a long time to heal and the “halo” does not help my type of fracture anymore than the “rigid collar” does, or so I’ve read
    about. ( Turkish study,)

I am trying to channel Ann Strongheart right now. I only have myself and my ex and my dog to help me.

Am I asking for some love and attention? You “Betcha”. God, I sound so desperate. Well f-it. I guess I am.

Please give me the strength to carry on and become healthy. This sucks bigtime and I don’t want to tell any of my friends because it sounds so “JerrySpringer” – “WhiteTrashY”

Sorry for the buzz-kill. I too and also need to vent , cry and ask for some support. Please “pray” for me ( I am an agnostic).

Regarding that story about Palin being punked. Some of our Canadian friends need to wander over to Huffpo and post. I was reading it yesterday, and the trolls were out in full force defending Palin saying that she “knows” what she is talking about because Canada is going broke because of their healthcare, etc. Mind you….these are right-wing American’s who were posting like they knew the details of Canada’s goverment.

They were trashing that comedian saying that she is the one who got punked because Palin was right about Canada…bla, bla, bla.

Just an FYI, anyone who has some first hand knowledge should go post on HuffPo.

Like I pointed out, why is it Palin’s business what Canada does with healthcare. She isn’t even an elected official in the US and couldn’t handle the job as gov. of Alaksa, an now she is telling Canada how to run their country.

I also read this morning that Palin started the 5K run, but she quit.

I guess there were a lot of fans at the finish line waiting for her, but she bailed early to avoid the crowds. So, her fans were waiting for her at the finish and they were left hanging.

    When will they learn?

Does Palin think she is that much of a super-star that she can’t handle the crowds at a 5K run? Wow…that’s really being “for the people”.

  19. 20
    trishaNo Gravatar says:

It also said she was pushing a twin stroller? What twins?

Someone (on another post) said it didn’t even look like Trig was in the stroller.

I think the whole thing was just another photo op for Palin. She wanted to be seen running with her baby. Come on……she doesn’t run at home pushing Trig in a stroller, does she?

But, she does it for the press. I guess she figured the the press had enough shots showing her running with babies, so she didn’t need to finish and greet her fans.

    What a fraud.

Sorry to hear about your neck, dreamgirl, but a word of caution. “Turkish” studies tend not to follow medical science, ie, they have a tendency towards the unreliable. My suggestion, if you do not like the idea of having a halo device (why not, vanity?) is to get a 2nd opinion from an orthopeadic center or neurologist. Do not deny yourself the opportunity of a full and complete recovery by basing your course of action on a “turkish study.”

    Dreamgirl -

I’m so sorry to hear about your situation but I’m going to give you a little reality check.

Over the past 25+ years, I’ve worked with lots of people who have had spinal cord injuries at all different levels of the spine, and I know how dangerous and life-changing they can be. You need to stop looking at Turkish studies (online, I assume?) and get yourself to a neurologist or other medical professional, as sauerkraut suggested. This can be a very serious type of injury, especially if it involves cervical vertebrae. This is NOT the time to be doing research online or hoping that the least invasive methods will eventually heal the injury.

Get yourself to a doctor and let them deal with the problem using tested medical procedures. I understand that it’s extremely frightening to face this kind of injury, but the alternative could be a lot scarier if you don’t get the proper medical treatment.

Also, keep calling your friends until you find some who are supportive. Many people are frightened by talking about this kind of injury because it reminds them of how random and fragile life can be. Keep looking until you find those friends, neighbors or anyone else who can get past that fear and be there for you so you can develop a support system.

I would strongly suggest looking into some spinal cord injury support groups in your area, either through local hospitals/rehab centers or national organizations. There you will find people who have been through the same experience as you have, and truly understand what you’re going through. They can give you emotional support as well as practical information that can be very helpful.

Here are two links you could try or do a search on ‘spinal cord injury support groups’ and your state or city:

    http://www.sci-info-pages.com/state-resources.html
    http://www.spinalcord.org/chapters/

As scared and upset as you are – and have every right to be – you need to get past those feelings and start taking concrete steps towards recovery. Take charge of your situation and I promise that it will help you feel emotionally stronger as well.

    There…lecture over!

    An excerpt:

****Writing in her new book, Going Rogue: An American Life, Palin says the intrusion into her personal e-mail account in September 2008 “created paralysis” in her administration, because it cut off easy communication with her “Alaska staff.” Presumably, this refers to her staff in the governor’s office, which would seem to be an acknowledgment that the personal account was used to conduct critical state work, as alleged in an activist’s lawsuit last year.****

To be fair to SP, I don’t think she dropped out of the race for physical problems. From the photos she had only one security person plus Chuck for protection of her, Piper, and the babies. Thousands (?) of people at the finish line would have been too much. If she were a normal person she would have taken the day to rest and regroup. If she were partially normal, she wouldn’t have exposed the children to all that commotion.

You have not told us where on C2 your fracture is or how much of your motor and sensory function has been impacted. Are you able to move? Are you in pain? I had a good friend who had a cervical fracture from a motor vehicle accdent and did not have to be in a halo due to the type of fracture she had and she was in a rigid collar for quite some time. I am very concerned for you. Please get back to us and let us know how we can help. I will alos echo the sentiments here that you should continue to try to reach out to your friends if you can. Also reach out to home health and community services (your doctor should be able to help with this). Don’t just stop with the ER–they are not specialists.

No one claimed that she didn’t finish for a physical reason. She just didn’t want to handle the crowds, so she quit.

Did she grow another baby? How is it that she had a stroller for twins?

I can’t defend her since she, once again, uses children as props. Why did she feel the need to run with a stroller? One reason…..photo opportunity.

She had to know in advance that crowds would be there, so why even start if she knew she couldn’t finish because of the crowds?

The answer is that she showed up so she could have her photo taken with a baby stroller. How sweet…..gag.

Dreamgirl, go to the doctor. That is why we have insurance, for times like this. I broke L5 on both sides (throwing a stack of mail in the mail bin at the PO and then standing up fast because of the pain), and it took years to heal without any treatment because there was nothing to do but wait, but I have also had cervical spine injuries as well (from a nearly head on collision with a truck when I was the passenger) that are fortunately behind me.

I also say call your friends for help. There will be someone who can help now and some that will be able to help later. I’m giving your ex a gold star, also, too.

    ChaimNo Gravatar says:

Since this is an open thread, I’m going to toss out this thought that occurred to me after reading about Sarah Palin being flown around by Samaritan’s Purse. The partnership between SP and SP might be more (or less) than ideological, with material benefits to both I understand that charitable organizations have very little regulation as to accounting for where their money comes from and goes to. If a charitable organization wants its donors’ contributions to be tax-deductible, it must comply with IRS limitations regarding how funds are spent, but enforcement is lax, particularly in the case of religious organizations because of the First Amendment. Since both left and right-wing political movements have ties to church organizations, there is little political pressure for additional regulation and oversight. If a non-church organization claiming to feed the hungry spends 95% of donations on staff salaries, an ambitious attorney general might claim donors are being defrauded, but when a religious organization claims to be doing “God’s work,” it’s not the government’s business to question whether God’s angels need multi-million dollar private aircraft.

Anyway, it occurred to me that Samaritan’s Purse might be Sarah’s Purse, a useful conduit for political contributions to (not-so-good) Samaritan Palin. Don’t want your (corporate?) name appearing as a political donor? No problem, just contribute to the cost of the Purse’s aircraft. Palin won’t have to rent or lease one, and the Purse benefits by effectively leasing the aircraft to her. The Purse could also pay for, and be paid for, some of the boots on the ground and auxiliary services at Palin’s speaking stops, picking up what would otherwise be expenses for her campaign organization and functioning as an off-the-books political fundraiser. Of course, the Purse could not publicly solicit funds on the basis that the money would benefit Palin, but a few discreet words to a dozen privacy-loving wealthy donors would suffice, while the Purse benefits from the generosity of ordinary Palin supporters by being publicly associated with her.

I apologize if this possibility is already obvious to everyone. I don’t know how it might be investigated without subpoena power, but if the idea is spread around, people may be alert to clues and encounter those who know things and are willing to talk.

It probably did take a lot of her time to search her e-mails for embarrassing material and tell her correspondents that, thanks to her using a guessable password, their exchange wasn’t really private. It’s hardly a job she could have turned over to a secretary or an aide. In my organization, you would NEVER use private email accounts for business. The business email accounts have much higher security and safeguards against hacking. No one would even think of using a private email account for business purposes.

It’s amazing to me that they don’t care. It’s also amazing that they didn’t care that Todd was being copied on state business. He was NOT an elected official, so I would think the citizens would be upset over that one.

Can you imagine Palin in the White House copying Todd on high security issues so he could forward them to his buddies in the AIP?

If she were partially normal, she would not have worn an orange t-shirt with an entourage wearing t-shirts containing her likeness. Frankly, she was looking for attention. That she veered off-course prior to the finish because of some claim of too much attention simply doesn’t wash.

Still, her presence might bring additional runners to the Red Cross event and that is a big plus regardless of doofussly she may have acted.

    HOOTERS:

Palin was asked earlier in the week about the possibility of a Palin/Beck 2012 ticket. Her response:

“He probably thought it was just a hoot too. I don’t know, we’ll see.”
She added: “But Glenn Beck I have great respect for. He’s a hoot.”

Beck apparently is a wee bit sensitive about being referred to as a “hoot.” I suspect that since he takes himself so seriously….and he’s hooted at by most people as being a joke that Palin’s hooting got the better of him. His response:
BECK: I don’t think things are hoots. I don’t. I don’t think it’s a hoot. I would never use the word hoot, and I respectfully ask that every time my name is brought up she would stop using the word ‘hoot.’ [...]
No, no I’m just saying — Beck-Palin, I’ll consider. But Palin-Beck — can you imagine, can you imagine what an administration with the two of us would be like? What? Come on! She’d be yapping or something, and I’d say, “I’m sorry, why am I hearing your voice? I’m not in the kitchen.”

Meoooooww! What a subtext here! The alley cats are caterwauling again, Papa. Throw a shoe at them…

    dreamgirl,
thinking of you today and remembering you in my prayers. I hope you can hear the voice of love from the commenters here urging you to seek medical care immediately. I’m wondering about those who diagnosed the C2 fracture – did they not start you on a process of continued care? Why were you not kept at a medical facility? If you left on your own, please return, as you may need more help than you can diagnose for yourself.
