Mudflats has been nominated for the Best Political Blog, and you can vote for it HERE! Look for the little yellow button that says “vote.” I’m in third place right now, and strangely enough, the first place spot is held by….me! The old blog site which is now just archives got nominated and a bunch of people have voted for it, so be sure to vote for themudflats.net and not the other one!

Thanks to all who have voted so far and to Molly1 for nominating The Mudflats!  Your support is very much appreciated.

OK, two things for this Open Thread:
Yes, I vote for TheMudflats as my favorite blog of the year … actually, of all time.

But a close second is Andrew Halcro’s blog … I recommend that all should read his posting “Permafrost Fridays” for 27 Nov 09 —- a blistering critique of Palin (who would have guessed?), and particularly of her major character disabilities. I hope that message gets out to the national audience.

AKM, I’m in Firefox using large font. Problem is @ the site, I can NOT SEE any of the selections except first one on each page. Tried to Zoom in/out but the only selection on Pg1 I can see is the old Mudflats, everything else is a fine partial line that’s not readable, certainly no “Vote” button. May be WHY you are getting all those votes at the old site.

“Mudflats.Wordpress.com (132 votes at the moment)

“The Best Blog out of Alaska on the Palin nomination and surrounding news. Smart, fact-checked, informative… I haven’t gotten”

AKM, or someone if you can give some clues as to how to proceed, it would be helpful before I vote. Thx

Maybe they would let AKM ‘combine’ votes for the old & the new?

Kath the Scrappy – I use IE7 but have the same problem on most sites when I’ve got large font on. You may have to go up to your View button and make the font size smaller to see everything you need to for the page. Once done, you can increase the font size again.

Wonkette has funny story about Palin quittin the 5K. They said it would be easier to list the things she has finished rather than the things she has quit.
They have a graphic of Palin’s Fail-O meter. Comments are hilarious. Here is a funny one……..

I’m gonna start doing this. She’s got the right idea.

Gonna tell my boss I got about halfway done with the latest document and well, I didn’t finish it FOR THE GOOD OF OUR ORGANIZATION.

Also, you might request they add a search feature. It is a drag to plow through pages of other blog nominees when you have chosen your favorite.

Thought I’d share this letter….lol I sure hope nobody here was invited to a Thanksgiving like this!!!

The Thanksgiving Letter (back by popular demand)
    From: Marney

As you all know a fabulous Thanksgiving Dinner does not make itself. I need to ask each of you to help by bringing something to complete the meal. I truly appreciate your offers to assist with the meal preparation.

Now, while I do have quite a sense of humor and joke around all the time, I COULD NOT BE MORE SERIOUS when I am providing you with your Thanksgiving instructions and orders. I am very particular, so please perform your task EXACTLY as I have requested and read your portion very carefully. If I ask you to bring your offering in a container that has a lid, bring your offering in a container WITH A LID, NOT ALUMINUM FOIL! If I ask you to bring a serving spoon for your dish, BRING A SERVING SPOON, NOT A SOUP SPOON! And please do not forget anything.

All food that is to be cooked should already be prepared, bring it hot and ready to serve, warm or room temp. These are your ONLY THREE options. Anything meant to be served cold should, of course, already be cold.

    HJB—Dinner wine

    The Mike Byron Family
    1. Turnips in a casserole with a lid and a serving spoon. Please do not fill the casserole all the way up to the top, it gets too messy. I know this may come as a bit of a surprise to you, but most of us hate turnips so don’t feel like you a have to feed an army.
    2. Two half gallons of ice cream, one must be VANILLA, I don’t care what the other one is. No store brands please. I did see an ad this morning for Hagan Daz Peppermint Bark Ice Cream, yum!! (no pressure here, though).
    3. Toppings for the ice cream.
    4. A case of bottled water, NOT gallons, any brand is ok.

    The Bob Byron Family
    1. Green beans or asparagus (not both) in a casserole with a lid and a serving spoon. If you are making the green beans, please prepare FOUR pounds, if you are making asparagus please prepare FIVE pounds. It is up to you how you wish to prepare them, no soupy sauces, no cheese (you know how Mike is), a light sprinkling of toasted nuts, or pancetta, or some EVOO would be a nice way to jazz them up.
    2. A case of beer of your choice (I have Coors Light and Corona) or a bottle of clos du bois chardonnay (you will have to let me know which you will bring prior to 11/22).

    The Lisa Byron Chesterford Family
    1. Lisa as a married woman you are now required to contribute at the adult level. You can bring an hors d’ouvres. A few helpful hints/suggestions. Keep it very light, and non-filling, NO COCKTAIL SAUCE, no beans of any kind. I think your best bet would be a platter of fresh veggies and dip. Not a huge platter mind you (i.e., not the plastic platter from the supermarket).

    The Michelle Bobble Family
    1. Stuffing in a casserole with a serving spoon. Please make the stuffing sans meat.
    2. 2.5-3 qts. of mashed squash in a casserole with a lid and serving spoon
    3. Proscuitto pin wheel – please stick to the recipe, no need to bring a plate.
    4. A pie knife

    The June Davis Family
    1. 15 LBS of mashed potatoes in a casserole with a serving spoon. Please do not use the over-size blue serving dish you used last year. Because you are making such a large batch you can do one of two things: put half the mash in a regulation size casserole with lid and put the other half in a plastic container and we can just replenish with that or use two regulation size casserole dishes with lids. Only one serving spoon is needed.
    2. A bottle of clos du bois chardonnay

The Amy Misto Family (why do I even bother she will never read this)
    1. A pumpkin pie in a pie dish (please use my silver palate recipe) no knife needed.
    2. An apple pie in a pie dish, you can use your own recipe, no knife needed.

    Looking forward to the 28th!!

    Marney

After reading about AKM’s posting about what Ann S. is doing with Nunam Uqua AGAIN this Winter I have a question to those familiar with the ADN.
Who is the person who covers or writes about the Natives Issues..?
I don’t remember the persons name but I thought it was a woman.
( Others may choose to write them like myself as well if you like )

I wanted to email this person rather than the Editors or the Pat Doughterty types there who refuse to tell the story of the Palin/Parnell Administration of incompetence and call them on it. They wouldn’t allow the Natives to fish and now they sit on their hands and do nothing to help solve the problem they created. The email will be sort of an Open Letter asking questions like ” Don’t you- ( Alaska and Parnell ) feel embarrassed that you are failing to support fellow Alaskans?” Where is that Independence Spirit that S’error bragged about all the time… about helping our own and not depending on Washington.

And if Parnell HAD attended that meeting with the President on Veterans Day this could be an opportunity to ask for a favor… NOW. Does that big bad Guvmint have any Federal Food Subsidies or reserves they could share with the Natives to help out. We have federal stockpiles we send to OTHER Countries to help out in times of need…. how about here?
Would Parnell even ask…. or will his Wife bake cookies as well? Is that the tradition.

I will ask them/ADN if they are doing a story about it or will they just sit back and let some of the Alaskan Blogs like Mudflats cover the story. When will they be doing THEIR ‘ Job ‘..?

Embarrassment/sarcasm and humiliation tactics seem to work pretty well for Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert so we might as well embarrass Parnell as much as possible for his ‘ job performance’. I also want to send an email off to the President as well. ( What other Federal Agency in Wash. would this fall under and Who?)
I’ll call my own Congresswoman and Senators as well to ask about a Wash. contact. Having them spreading the ‘ word ‘ couldn’t hurt either. Curious as to what their answer or response might be to my questions. And I will tell them to read Ann’s post here on Mudflats.
Wouldn’t if be nice if Washington stepped in to help in some way..? That would look nice on Parnell’s resume at Election time next year.

Does someone have the ADN name contact?

    FYI on Bloggers Choice Awards.

The old Mudflats (wordpress) is there as that was the original one nominated last year which AKM won. They do not remove sites voted for that year and start all over. They just set the vote numbers back to zero. In fact, Mudflats.net is nominated for Best Political Blog; Best Blog of All Times; Best Blogging Host and Best Photography Blog. You can vote for all nominations should you wish by clicking on the category within the mudflats section.

Mudflats.net is presently ahead of Mudflats.wordpress. You can vote any number of sites you want. The suggestion that they combine them would probably not work as some people have voted for both the old wordpress blog and the new Mudflats.net. As soon as they finish the voting for this year, voting starts again. The voting on the site runs all year.

It might be more successful if AKM does an email to them to advise the old blog site and the new and request that the old WordPress blog name be removed as at the end of this voting year to avoid the confusion.

In fact, looking at the site, there is a Mudflats.com nominated too.
