Open Thread – Have You Voted?
Have you voted for your favorite blog(s) of the year?
Time is ticking down on 2009, so don’t forget to support the blogs that have brightened your year. There are categories for all types of blogs – hobbies, humor, parenting, food, corporate, marketing, education, sports, travel, and more!
Mudflats has been nominated for the Best Political Blog, and you can vote for it HERE! Look for the little yellow button that says “vote.” I’m in third place right now, and strangely enough, the first place spot is held by….me! The old blog site which is now just archives got nominated and a bunch of people have voted for it, so be sure to vote for themudflats.net and not the other one!
Thanks to all who have voted so far and to Molly1 for nominating The Mudflats! Your support is very much appreciated.

OK, two things for this Open Thread:
Yes, I vote for TheMudflats as my favorite blog of the year … actually, of all time.
But a close second is Andrew Halcro’s blog … I recommend that all should read his posting “Permafrost Fridays” for 27 Nov 09 —- a blistering critique of Palin (who would have guessed?), and particularly of her major character disabilities. I hope that message gets out to the national audience.
AKM, I’m in Firefox using large font. Problem is @ the site, I can NOT SEE any of the selections except first one on each page. Tried to Zoom in/out but the only selection on Pg1 I can see is the old Mudflats, everything else is a fine partial line that’s not readable, certainly no “Vote” button. May be WHY you are getting all those votes at the old site.
“Mudflats.Wordpress.com (132 votes at the moment)
“The Best Blog out of Alaska on the Palin nomination and surrounding news. Smart, fact-checked, informative… I haven’t gotten”
AKM, or someone if you can give some clues as to how to proceed, it would be helpful before I vote. Thx
I just voted. Kath, I didn’t have that problem.
Wow, maybe it would be best to just vote for the old site.
Maybe they would let AKM ‘combine’ votes for the old & the new?
Kath the Scrappy – I use IE7 but have the same problem on most sites when I’ve got large font on. You may have to go up to your View button and make the font size smaller to see everything you need to for the page. Once done, you can increase the font size again.
Oh, I just voted for the Mudflats.wordpress.com. I realized too late that their was another one as mudflats.net.
Hopefully they will tally the 2 up?
I just voted. Good luck AKM.
Wonkette has funny story about Palin quittin the 5K. They said it would be easier to list the things she has finished rather than the things she has quit.
They have a graphic of Palin’s Fail-O meter. Comments are hilarious. Here is a funny one……..
I’m gonna start doing this. She’s got the right idea.
Gonna tell my boss I got about halfway done with the latest document and well, I didn’t finish it FOR THE GOOD OF OUR ORGANIZATION.
good morning mudpuppies!
Once you vote for Mudflats.net, don’t forget to follow thru on the other links to the categories that AKM is also nominated for, Best Blog of All Time, Best Blogging Host and Best Photography
A few chuckles to start your day:
She quit when someone told her mid-race that the Charity 5K was not for her and she would not be collecting any money for the event.
______
It took her over 40 minutes to run less than 5K? Was she walking on all fours or something?
I just voted for the Best Political Blog AND emailed the site using the Contact Us tab. I explained the mix-up and asked the hosts to combine the votes for the old mudflats site and this one. If we would all do this, they might listen. Good luck!
Also, you might request they add a search feature. It is a drag to plow through pages of other blog nominees when you have chosen your favorite.
Thought I’d share this letter….lol I sure hope nobody here was invited to a Thanksgiving like this!!!
The Thanksgiving Letter (back by popular demand)
From: Marney
As you all know a fabulous Thanksgiving Dinner does not make itself. I need to ask each of you to help by bringing something to complete the meal. I truly appreciate your offers to assist with the meal preparation.
Now, while I do have quite a sense of humor and joke around all the time, I COULD NOT BE MORE SERIOUS when I am providing you with your Thanksgiving instructions and orders. I am very particular, so please perform your task EXACTLY as I have requested and read your portion very carefully. If I ask you to bring your offering in a container that has a lid, bring your offering in a container WITH A LID, NOT ALUMINUM FOIL! If I ask you to bring a serving spoon for your dish, BRING A SERVING SPOON, NOT A SOUP SPOON! And please do not forget anything.
All food that is to be cooked should already be prepared, bring it hot and ready to serve, warm or room temp. These are your ONLY THREE options. Anything meant to be served cold should, of course, already be cold.
HJB—Dinner wine
The Mike Byron Family
1. Turnips in a casserole with a lid and a serving spoon. Please do not fill the casserole all the way up to the top, it gets too messy. I know this may come as a bit of a surprise to you, but most of us hate turnips so don’t feel like you a have to feed an army.
2. Two half gallons of ice cream, one must be VANILLA, I don’t care what the other one is. No store brands please. I did see an ad this morning for Hagan Daz Peppermint Bark Ice Cream, yum!! (no pressure here, though).
3. Toppings for the ice cream.
4. A case of bottled water, NOT gallons, any brand is ok.
The Bob Byron Family
1. Green beans or asparagus (not both) in a casserole with a lid and a serving spoon. If you are making the green beans, please prepare FOUR pounds, if you are making asparagus please prepare FIVE pounds. It is up to you how you wish to prepare them, no soupy sauces, no cheese (you know how Mike is), a light sprinkling of toasted nuts, or pancetta, or some EVOO would be a nice way to jazz them up.
2. A case of beer of your choice (I have Coors Light and Corona) or a bottle of clos du bois chardonnay (you will have to let me know which you will bring prior to 11/22).
The Lisa Byron Chesterford Family
1. Lisa as a married woman you are now required to contribute at the adult level. You can bring an hors d’ouvres. A few helpful hints/suggestions. Keep it very light, and non-filling, NO COCKTAIL SAUCE, no beans of any kind. I think your best bet would be a platter of fresh veggies and dip. Not a huge platter mind you (i.e., not the plastic platter from the supermarket).
The Michelle Bobble Family
1. Stuffing in a casserole with a serving spoon. Please make the stuffing sans meat.
2. 2.5-3 qts. of mashed squash in a casserole with a lid and serving spoon
3. Proscuitto pin wheel – please stick to the recipe, no need to bring a plate.
4. A pie knife
The June Davis Family
1. 15 LBS of mashed potatoes in a casserole with a serving spoon. Please do not use the over-size blue serving dish you used last year. Because you are making such a large batch you can do one of two things: put half the mash in a regulation size casserole with lid and put the other half in a plastic container and we can just replenish with that or use two regulation size casserole dishes with lids. Only one serving spoon is needed.
2. A bottle of clos du bois chardonnay
The Amy Misto Family (why do I even bother she will never read this)
1. A pumpkin pie in a pie dish (please use my silver palate recipe) no knife needed.
2. An apple pie in a pie dish, you can use your own recipe, no knife needed.
Looking forward to the 28th!!
Marney

OMG, is that letter for real? What a control freak.
On another note. AKM or (anyone) I am trying to find the post where AKM listed President Obama’s achievements since in office. I haven’t found it yet, and would like to pass on to some people who are saying things like this…….Name one thing that Obama has done since he has been in office—bet you can’t.
I’m hearing this more and more and wonder if they (White House/ Democratic Party) need to up their PR.
I voted. Make sure and vote for the correct blog! Remember AKM needed to get a better system to handle significant increased traffic. The other one kept crashing. So don’t vote for the old blog.
Here is the correct blog:
http://bloggerschoiceawards.com/blogs/show/59166
I voted a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed that there are two choices for AKM – since the “wrong” one shows up on top, many people voted for it by mistake. AKM – please ask them to combine those two. How did this happen?
Dang.
Here is the link to nominate themudflats.net

SHOCKER
LONDON — The United States was “hell bent” on a 2003 military invasion of Iraq and actively undermined efforts by Britain to win international authorization for the war, a former British diplomat told an inquiry Friday.

Trisha #12, My take on the question of what has Obama done…and there is a long list…is more in the order of what has not happened. We are not at war with Iran, we are not in a depression, and we are no longer hated by the entire world. Best of all, Sarah Palin is nowhere near the White House.
Just those things alone are nothing short of a miracle. I am more than satisfied.
Geoffrey Dunn’s article on Trooper Wooten still has traction on front page of HP, so comment, “buzz” it or “digg” it. BTW, the comments are great.

voted!
I voted for Mudflats!
Here’s a link to the email with Obama’s accomplishments:
http://www.tellingthoughts.com/asides/obamas-90-accomplishments-email-list
I think it would be great for anyone willing to send that in an email to friends and family:-) I did it over thanksgiving, as “things I’m grateful for” and got a lot of surprised people writing me back, thanking me.
As for that horrid letter, I have a family member like that; Crazy comes in all kinds of packages. It ‘s really unpleasant to deal with.
Holiday dinners are for enjoying PEOPLE you love, IMHO. Not for perfect food, though good food is always appreciated. But it shouldn’t rule the day.
Life is too short!
This may already have been posted, but C-SPAN2 is airing a 11/5 book reading with the authors of Sarah From Alaska”. They usually replay it several times over the weekend.
KJ in NC and not that sarah, thanks for your imput and link. I just had some discouraging conversations over the last few weeks with some Obama supporters who seemed to be losing the faith. I know…I know….crazy, right?
Also, some wingnuts who are saying that President Obama hasn’t done anything yet. I just wanted some fresh ammo.
Thanks again.
done
It’s that time of year again? Dang. Time flies! I voted twice, me and my alter ego.
You know, to help make up for the misplaced votes.
DONE! Good luck AKM – you deserve it!
I thought for sure I had already voted a number of weeks ago but maybe I’m remembering when I voted for Netroots. ( I have absolutely no handle on the passage of calendar time) Just voted and , being #147, AKM is now beating her old self again. ( Sounds sort of Jungian )
That letter is great! I hope at least one of the dinner attendees made sure to yank her chain in some way. One of life’s simply pleasures is to mess with the mind of the control freak.
I just voted. Good luck AKM.
My two daughters voted for your site two. You are so loved locally and world wide. Good for ya.
AKM you are beating yourself.
The mudflat+ 158
mudflat at wordpress: 150
or there is third one too. Mudflat. with some votes
Ha ha ha ha. You are the best
The new Palin Digest site was updated today. http://www.PalinDigest.presspublisher.us
If you have links to articles about the lies in “Going Rogue”, well written reviews, video or transcripts of Palin rewriting history, etc., please email them to the address at the bottom of the site. I try to keep up with them on the boards but I’m sure I miss a good number of them. I’ve got another 2 dozen or so that I’ll be adding over the next days.
Thanks!
Done, in all 4 categories.
(save time – mudflats is currently on p. 6 of the Best of all Time nominees – and moving up!)
I Just nominated
http://lynnrockets.wordpress.com
Fun page please give her a vote
I just laughed so loud when I found the 2 Most abnoxious bloggers nominations. Dkos is nominated the worst blog of all time.
Hey your beta check your blogs.
The two abnoxious are
Shannymoore.wordpress.com
and
bilia.wordpress.com
BuffaloGal, awesome.
I didn’t see Andew’s latest post about Sarah’s lies about him and other stuff. It was a great piece. I don’t have the link right now, but it’s a new piece (last day or so).
That would be Andrew, not Andew….my bad
Sound like we need to nominate some pro-palin blogs.
After reading about AKM’s posting about what Ann S. is doing with Nunam Uqua AGAIN this Winter I have a question to those familiar with the ADN.
Who is the person who covers or writes about the Natives Issues..?
I don’t remember the persons name but I thought it was a woman.
( Others may choose to write them like myself as well if you like )
I wanted to email this person rather than the Editors or the Pat Doughterty types there who refuse to tell the story of the Palin/Parnell Administration of incompetence and call them on it. They wouldn’t allow the Natives to fish and now they sit on their hands and do nothing to help solve the problem they created. The email will be sort of an Open Letter asking questions like ” Don’t you- ( Alaska and Parnell ) feel embarrassed that you are failing to support fellow Alaskans?” Where is that Independence Spirit that S’error bragged about all the time… about helping our own and not depending on Washington.
And if Parnell HAD attended that meeting with the President on Veterans Day this could be an opportunity to ask for a favor… NOW. Does that big bad Guvmint have any Federal Food Subsidies or reserves they could share with the Natives to help out. We have federal stockpiles we send to OTHER Countries to help out in times of need…. how about here?
Would Parnell even ask…. or will his Wife bake cookies as well? Is that the tradition.
I will ask them/ADN if they are doing a story about it or will they just sit back and let some of the Alaskan Blogs like Mudflats cover the story. When will they be doing THEIR ‘ Job ‘..?
Embarrassment/sarcasm and humiliation tactics seem to work pretty well for Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert so we might as well embarrass Parnell as much as possible for his ‘ job performance’. I also want to send an email off to the President as well. ( What other Federal Agency in Wash. would this fall under and Who?)
I’ll call my own Congresswoman and Senators as well to ask about a Wash. contact. Having them spreading the ‘ word ‘ couldn’t hurt either. Curious as to what their answer or response might be to my questions. And I will tell them to read Ann’s post here on Mudflats.
Wouldn’t if be nice if Washington stepped in to help in some way..? That would look nice on Parnell’s resume at Election time next year.
Does someone have the ADN name contact?
Honesty in Gov: Good ideas. One little slip. The governor should be the one baking cookies, not his wife. (Maybe she could fix the roof.)
buffalo gal, OK, give tips on messing with control freaks! I need them!:-)
AKM, I just got Going Rouge today!!! Woo hoo!!! I’m so excited!!!
#16 BigPete, I hope the the pricks in our gov’t are held accountable for that. How many have died or been maimed or displaced because of that on all sides?
Voted!
I joined and voted for ya AKM-
Cuz: You are a great writer; You are kind hearted; you tolerate my occasional dumbness.
Frank-
Good luck and you deserve to win it all !
Voted!
Voted also, too!
Trisha @34 – The Halcro article is in line to be added tomorrow. I still have a good number of articles / videos that need to be included. I’m glad you like the site .
NotThatSarah @39 – how many control freaks do you have in your inner circle? I have 3 and if I didn’t have mind games to play with them, I’d probably have to find seriously heavy blood pressure meds. ( and hey! I’m still waiting on my copy of Going Rouge. I’m envious ! )
FYI on Bloggers Choice Awards.
The old Mudflats (wordpress) is there as that was the original one nominated last year which AKM won. They do not remove sites voted for that year and start all over. They just set the vote numbers back to zero. In fact, Mudflats.net is nominated for Best Political Blog; Best Blog of All Times; Best Blogging Host and Best Photography Blog. You can vote for all nominations should you wish by clicking on the category within the mudflats section.
Mudflats.net is presently ahead of Mudflats.wordpress. You can vote any number of sites you want. The suggestion that they combine them would probably not work as some people have voted for both the old wordpress blog and the new Mudflats.net. As soon as they finish the voting for this year, voting starts again. The voting on the site runs all year.
It might be more successful if AKM does an email to them to advise the old blog site and the new and request that the old WordPress blog name be removed as at the end of this voting year to avoid the confusion.
In fact, looking at the site, there is a Mudflats.com nominated too.
Has anybody heard from dreamgirl??? I’m hoping she is getting that second opinion NOW.
Meede I voted quite some time ago and yes I mistakenly voted for the the mudflats.com then saw the word press one so voted for that one than saw the .net one which was the correct one.I saw that AKM is now beating herself LOL I too wish their was a way to find the blog you want some have over 400 to go thru
I Hope dreamgirl is ok and doing better dreamgirl please let us know you are ok!!!!
Lady Gaga made sure none of her fans lost any weight while standing in line for her autograph on Monday. When she heard thousands had queued up to get copies of her new album signed, she ordered pizza for them all!
Since more people showed up to get an autograph from Lady Gaga than you-know-who, I think that means she is qualified to be President? Just sayin’. Plus, she bought them pizza!!!!
jojobo1,
The Bloggers Choice site used to have a Search bar. I have no idea what is going on.
Thanks for the input folks, I now have managed to vote in all categories. You were right, it was the font size. I went Tools/Options/Content and changed the font temporarily.
ok…this picture is toooo funny:

John McCain & S’rah as characters from “King of the Hill”
Anybody have accurate stats on # of people showing up for SP’s magical Misinformation Tour?
Seems the largest so far was about 1500, but I’m curious about The Villages stop. She did get a good crowd there, tens of thousands (good even without the Fox News HyperInflation Crowd Count Software).
I heard The Villages crowd was only around 500. Wow, that hoot of guy, Glenn Beck did get a bigger crowd,
I am also curious about tomorrow’s signing. I will swear I heard on a local newsclip that the Hasting’s bookstore just got it’s order – 2000 copies.
Seems a bit much to me is all.
Lastly, that crack when she got off the plane, something like ‘I don’t know why politicians, especially the ones higher up, don’t go to the small towns because that’s where the voters are and the small businesses that are the backbone of America”.
3 am snark/on
I just wanted to scream into my television, “Sarah, when you are the one actually running the campaign and you only have so much money to spend, you’ll find out why people don’t go to places like …. MIchigan, when it is already a lost cause. But hey, you’re the roguey maverick, you just spend, spend, spend, being that fiscal conservative you are to make sure all the small town people hear your message (gotta hot flash for you Sarah – they have TV, radio and internet and Facebook in the the Lower 48 … and Hawaii too!)”
3 am snark/off
Took me 5 tries to log in to vote, now message being sent to work e-mail to confirm. MUST they make it that unwieldy? But I’ll do it at work tomorow, I really want to make sure my vote gets in!!
Ching!
