Goings On About Town
29 11 2009Hellooo Mudflatters. I ended up taking an inadvertent mental health day today. Had intended on posting, but life happened, and…. there you go. I did want to mention a couple things, though.
The month of December is always busy, but there are a few noteworthy events coming up I thought I’d mention. Also, I’ve been much better lately about posting upcoming events on the Events page which you can find by clicking on the tab above. If you want me to post an event you think the community would appreciate, the best way to do it is by sending an email with the subject line EVENTS! or by inviting me to the event via Facebook.

Monday at Mad Myrna’s!
Tomorrow night (Monday, November 30) activist Christopher Constant is hosting a fundraiser at Mad Myrna’s to raise money to help a local openly gay or lesbian candidate win elected office in Alaska. Chris has been invited and given a scholarship to the Gay and Lesbian Leadership Institute’s candidate and campaign training coupled with the 25th annual LGBT International Leadership Conference in San Francisco, Dec 2 – Dec 6, 2009. Help him defray his own expenses and have fun doing it! We need all the great candidates we can get, so show up and support the effort!
If you are interested in more details, you can check out the Facebook link HERE and share with friends.
Also, next Saturday, December 5 are two events you won’t want to miss!
First is the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center Women’s String Orchestra. You may recall an article on The Mudflats written by guest blogger Pati Crofut earlier in the month. It tells the amazing story of this incredible group. If you missed it, you can read it HERE. Their special guest artist is world-reknowned cellist Armen Ksajikian! They will be performing a selection of World and Holiday Music. Tickets are $25 on sale at CenterTix, Metro Music or email crofutp(at)aol(dot)com.
And, don’t miss Cook Inletkeeper’s Muckraker’s Ball! Cook Inletkeeper chooses one person each year to honor with the title “Muckraker of the Year.” The first year the recipient was inveterate Alaska Muckraker Ray Metcalfe, last year it was the amazing Dr. Ricki Ott author of Not One Drop about the devastating effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and this year…. (scratching toe in the dirt and turning all sorts of shades of red) it’s me! I am incredibly honored to be in such great company, and I can’t wait for the opportunity to meet all of you at the event! It runs from 7-10pm at Rumrunners in Anchorage. Great food, cash prizes, live music and emcee Shannyn Moore! $10 at the door. Details HERE!
I also try to post info on political fundraisers for our legislative and gubernatorial candidates. There are a couple Bob Poe “friendraisers” posted at the moment so be sure to check those out, and I’ll post more as they come to me.

wow. remember when you were anonymous? Then we were all mad at Doogan for outing you?
I, for one, am glad you are “out”. Look! You got your own marquee!!
November 29th, 2009 at 7:16 PM
Yes, it’s good you are ‘out’ AKM, now you can enjoy your party without a pesky mask! Cheers and congratulations!
November 29th, 2009 at 7:33 PM
[Lol... Someone (meaning me) should probably apologize to Les. He predicted you might very well be glad Doogan was such a doogan. If I recall correctly, I kinda' let him have it, but good, at the time. So Les, if you ever read this, well... forgive me.]
I mean, how goofy would it have been to appear on TRMS disguised as Brian?
Congratulations, Jeanne Devon. It’s fitting that you are openly honored for your accomplishments!
P.S.: Doogan, on the other hand, is still a doogan!
November 29th, 2009 at 7:36 PM
Have a ball AKM ~ as you’re sure to be the belle of the ball.
Cheers!
November 29th, 2009 at 7:41 PM
Congrats, AKM! That’s fabulous. If you’re too busy being honored, please remember to hand your camera to someone else so we who live too far away can see all that went on.
November 29th, 2009 at 7:52 PM
I have my virtual ticket to the Mudrackers Ball and intend to use it! I see at least two other WA mudpups above who will be celebrating with you AKM – we are mighty proud of you and proud, also, too, to say that we “know” ya
Please share pictures since I’ve not yet won the lottery and thus cannot fly up and join you.

November 30th, 2009 at 4:40 AM
Congratulations AKM! This is so well-deserved. Enjoy the celebration and share lots of pictures. : )
I wonder if the thought ever entered into Doogan’s pea-brain the day his smug little self outed you that it would unleash such an outpouring of love and support the likes of which he has never once experienced ever in his pathetic miserable life.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:26 PM
Duh, well whom else would they pick?
Congratulations!! Great honor. Well-deserved!!
