Palin Throws Self Under Bus.
30 11 2009(Looks at clock)
OK, I’ve been waiting for days, and nothing. Not a peep.
We remember, of course, that when Newsweek recently published a cover with a picture that Palin posed for during a Runner’s World photo shoot, in a cheesecakey pose, leaning on the flag which is draped over a bar stool, she cried foul. She said that the use of the photo by Newsweek was “sexist.”
During the campaign, McCain adviser (and now Senatorial candidate) Carly Fiorina said that Saturday Night Live’s portrayal of Hillary Clinton as smart, but Sarah Palin as “totally superficial” was “sexist.”
Cindy McCain on the campaign trail said that the media’s treatment of Palin was sexist.
Hillary Clinton aides talked about how the media’s questions to Palin about her family, and said it was a sexist assumption that women should always be responsible for child-rearing.
When it comes to Palin, cries of sexism are everywhere.
Unfortunately, legitimate discussions of sexist attitudes become subverted by using sexism as a defense for having gender-unrelated incompetence called on the carpet. And it’s a convenient cover for deflecting attention to bad decisions, like posing for the photo used by Newsweek.
But regardless of the legitimacy of these accusations over the past year, there’s no doubt that the theme of sexism, both real and perceived, has played heavily in the Palin meme.
So, last week, Sarah Palin gave passing consideration to the report by the conservative Newsmax, that a Palin-Beck 2012 ticket for the White House might be a possibility.
“I saw that, I saw that; he probably got a kick out of that,” Palin said. “It was just a hoot, too, to hear such a thing.”
“I don’t know,” she said. “We’ll see, we’ll see.” [snip]
“Glenn Beck, I have great respect for,” she said. “He gets his message across in such a clever way.”
“We’ll see,” she said, and called him a “hoot.”
“He calls it like he sees it, and he’s very, very, very effective,” Palin added.
So what did Beck have to say? Did he “get a kick out of that” as Palin suggested? After all, she has had nothing but nice things to say about the conservative pundit. Was he flattered to even be passingly considered for the #2 slot?
“I was just thinking, what, I’m going to take a back seat to a chick?” Beck quipped, to laughter from the studio. “Go shoot a bear, make some stew, I’m hungry in here.”
“So while she’s considering it … I just want her to know, I’m ruling it out. A Palin-Beck ticket, I’m absolutely ruling it out,” Beck said. “I’m just saying, Beck-Palin, I’ll consider. But Palin-Beck — can you imagine what an administration with the two of us would be like? She’d be yapping or something, I’d say, ‘I’m sorry, why am I hearing your voice? I’m not in the kitchen.’
Uh oh. Brace yourselves. Because no matter how hazy some of those other accusations of sexism are, THIS one is off the charts. He ‘called it like he saw it,’ and it is knuckle-dragging, Neanderthal, in-your-face sexism, and no reasonable person could deny it. Glenn Beck is going to have his head handed to him, and justly so. I listened to Beck and I actually empathized with Sarah Palin. I don’t care how much I disagree with someone’s policies, or competence, or opinions. When someone actually says “Why am I hearing your voice? I’m not in the kitchen?” he needs to be smacked down and smacked down good. And there’s nobody can do a smack down quite like Sarah Palin.
Think what she did to Letterman for that joke about Willow “getting knocked up” by baseball player Alex Rodriguez. She called him “pathetic” and a whole lot more.
“I would like to see him apologize to young women across the country for contributing to kind of that thread that is throughout our culture that makes it sound like it is OK to talk about young girls in that way…
“No wonder young girls especially have such low self-esteem in America when we think it’s funny for a so-called comedian to get away with such a remark as he did,” she said. “I don’t think that’s acceptable.”
So let’s go to Palin’s Facebook page and see what kind of lampooning; what kind of apology-demanding rant we may find.
(Opening a new window)
OK,…let’s see.
Asking the president to reassure us we’re in the war on terror to win.
Gooey Thanksgiving message.
Pelosi-Reid congress is “scary” and “unacceptable.”
More Going Rogue book tour photos….
So, what do we find about Glenn Beck?
(crickets)
Sarah Palin has so far chosen to throw all women including herself under the bus, rather than to call out a “very very very effective” conservative sexist windbag who doesn’t deserve a minute on the public airwaves.
Pro-Palin blogs were fond of whining during the campaign, “Where are the liberal blogs? Why aren’t they calling out sexism? I guess they think only certain kind of women are worth defending…”
So, I’d like to turn the tables and say, “Where are the conservative blogs and news sites calling out Glenn Beck?”
I’ll let you know when I find one. But meanwhile, let’s have a little thought experiment and imagine if someone else….oh, let’s say Keith Olbermann… would have said that.
And, Beck isn’t finished with Palin yet. What did he have to say about being called “a hoot?”
“I don’t think things are hoots. I don’t. I don’t think it’s a hoot. I would never use the word hoot, and I respectfully ask that every time my name is brought up she would stop using the word ‘hoot.’”
Oh, dear. He’s offended. I wonder if he’ll demand an apology?

Uh oh…If Palin is already planning her next book, it’s a sure bet that ol’ Glen will be in it….
November 30th, 2009 at 1:28 PM
What if it was Rupert Murdoch who schemed this thing into action; it would be good victimization publicity for Sarah – increase her book sales. And, for Glen Beck, could get him the attention he craves, and ratings on his Fox show, where he will eventually admit it was a ruse to see how many people would come to her defense. I’ll bet this is a plot. Bwahahahahahahaha!

Uh what you non-ordinary Americans do not realize is that I have been on the bus. You just could notice me because I was wearing a big scarf! Arf! Arf! Arf!

It almost sounds like Beck didn’t know he was ON at the time- I can’t believe how funny this is. And yes, the excuses coming from her fans are hilarious, but I think if push came to shove, they would pick her over him. She is the Anointed One. He is just the Annoying One.
November 30th, 2009 at 1:51 PM
Well, both are pretty annoying…
November 30th, 2009 at 2:04 PM
I bet Glen Beck wouldn’t have a problem telling her to “sit down and shut up” and “quit making stuff up”. And I’m sure Sarah wouldn’t have a problem telling him to quit crying like a baby. What a pair…what a HOOT!
November 30th, 2009 at 2:20 PM
I saw this in the ADN.
A bit off topic but… why are Sarah’s kids along on the book tour? Shouldn’t Piper be in school? I thought Hot Toddy was no long employed and the ideal father. Can’t he care for those kids?
Being home would greatly reduce the “leave my kids along” factor. Also, too.

Sorry for the misspell…

Anyone notice how palins skirts have seemed to be at the knees or lower now ,at least when she met with Grahams. She looked very matronly and I would imagine that is what she was going for.Did not do anything for her and did others notice she know kisses ect the baby where before I never saw her even hug him.She must or someone must read the blogs and go from there.
November 30th, 2009 at 3:16 PM
A perversion of the old “pulling the pigtails of the girl who sits in front of you in class to get her to like you” ploy. Palin will giggle it off because, you know, coming from a fellow zealot, this kind of conduct is just fun and games…and clever.
Glenn Beck: Aneuploidy at its finest!

trisha @ #49: Wow, great info and as usual, my fellow Evangelicals fall over themselves to show how blind they are.
Serves them right – if they want to exchange the glory of God and the good news of the Gospel for political power and cultural war then they deserve to be kicked in the teeth and shown for the idiots they are by helping to elect a Mormon to the WH. Disgusting parasites – they are a shame to all true believers.

After reading all the crap that Sleazy Sarah has said about the President regarding Afganistan on Facebook, I sent President Obama a letter of support. I hope AKM you don’t mind but I mentioned your blog. And a message to Sarah if you’re reading this blog…you’ll never measure up to the President. All you’re good for is a “reality show” and the tabloids. There is nothing remotely “Presidental” about you at all.

Didn’t she sell a jet on ebay (just kiddin) to save her state money because she’s not the kind to jet around????????????
The people questioning her parenting weren’t being sexist for the most part. IMO. Men candidates with families have always had their wives by their sides, and there have been pictures of the wife taking care of the kids, or the kids are at home with a family member, being taken care of. Palin’s kids were dragged around on the campaign trail, and there was no evidence that Todd could pick his kids out of a line up made up mostly of skid row bums, let alone actually pay any attention to them or give them any type of care. Bristol got pregnant on his watch, also too, yaknow.
Beck is sexist. He’s a part of the fringe Mormon church. Anyone remember what side of the feminist debate they were on in the sixties?
AKM, LOL about the Didn’t know you had any in Alaska!
November 30th, 2009 at 3:56 PM
I don’t know – the liberal sites I read called out the sexism towards SP during and after the campaign.
Beck is a complete and utter a-hole. There is no other way to put it.

Alpha female dogs will mark there territory, also too!
Yeah, Sarah is definitely leaving her signature in that cartoon!

I posted on Sarah Palin’s facebook fan page about the Beck thing. Of course that meant that for 30minutes I had to become a ’supporter of hers” YUCK!!

You want to know how Beck…errr…Mormon’s feel about women?
They believe that woman cannot get “past the veil” (the veil is like the Pearly Gates to them) without the permission of their husbands or fathers (if they never marry).
So, even if she is the most giving, caring, loving, wonderful woman who served God all her life, she needs her husband’s “approval” to gain entrance in the Kingdom of God.
They believe that God has half the code (to be admitted) and their husbands have the other half. If the husband doesn’t think they are worthy, he doesn’t give the code to God and woman is denied eternal life (their own planet w/husband and kids) because her husband said NO.
That’s probably why Salt Lake City is the number one city in the nation for cosmetic surgery. No joke. Those woman want to make sure they keep pleasing their man, or he will deny them their reward in the afterlife.
Sick, huh?
That should give you some insight into Beck’s view of women. In his world, they dominate over woman.

aussiegal77 Says: as usual, my fellow Evangelicals fall over themselves to show how blind they are.
It amazes me every day to see/hear the Evangelicals support Beck….and Palin. Talk about being too blind too see.

I just thought you all should know that Beck is not a life-long Mormon. He converted in 1999 when his second wife wanted a religion before they married.
Here’s a link that has a video of Beck’s “conversion” story.
I don’t know if it really makes a difference in his Mormonism, but it’s kind of weird.

Heh. Left out the main word in my last post.
AKM. LOL. Didn’t know you had CRICKETS in Alaska!
November 30th, 2009 at 6:44 PM
So, for Beck and his wife any religion would do, as long as they shared it? How opportunistic.

It’s a bit much to expect Sarah to recognize sexism when she sees it. After all, she doesn’t recognize *reality* when she sees it!
November 30th, 2009 at 10:31 PM
@Archivist1000 #40:
(Sorry for the O/T but) I think you may be right about that letter. I doubt anyone did any ‘fact-checking’ on the old guy who supposedly wrote it. It seems like a bit of a stretch to me.
On the other hand, if he spends all his time watching faux snuze, then maybe it wasn’t much of an effort. It’s just a regurgitation of all their talking points with the appropriately patronizing attitude about the uppity Obamas not being appreciative of what this great (white Christian) nation has done for them.
Whoever wrote it, the letter reflects the same paranoia that drives the wing nuts to believe their country has been taken over by a Muslim socialist from Kenya who hates America. (If I really believed that, I’d want my country back too.)
I can see why Sarah relates to this letter. It’s right up her alley in terms of baseless accusations and slogans without offering any substantive points for a rational debate.

Great cartoon! It deserves wide publication.
I never thought I’d ever actually want to defend Sarah Palin, but Beck’s comments were way out of line here. What an ugly, extreme over-reaction to some kind of perceived slight!
AKM, your inclusion of Palin’s responses to the Letterman jokes really bring the point home. This is the response she SHOULD be making to the Beck comments.
This is a clear case of sexism that merits further exposure. I would really like to see this post as an essay on HuffPo.
