Twin Tidbits from Palin Book Authors.
30 11 2009Palin Throws Bus Under the Bus
In a display of almost poetic metaphorical beauty, Sarah Palin has now thrown the bus…under the bus. That’s right, she’s now given up (at least in part) the Rogue on Wheels; the bus of the people; the Palin Express, in favor of winging around the country on a $4000/hr. Gulf Stream private jet. But don’t fear… she and the whole fan-damily will still pop out of the bus for bookstore appearances. Noted author Joe McGinniss who is working on a Palin book tentatively titled “Sarah Palin’s Year of Living Dangerously” is due out in 2011, had this to say:
There is, of course, nothing the least bit inappropriate about flying from place to place on a book tour. Back in the day when publishers still sent non-celebrity authors out in public, I flew on all of mine. It’s the only sensible approach. And if someone will spring for an executive jet, all the better. On the other hand, nobody tried to pretend I was riding a bus.
What’s wrong in this instance is the apparent fakery created and sustained for the sake of building pseudo-populist appeal—and selling books. Sarah Palin and HarperCollins have consciously tried to give the impression that she is doing her book tour by bus when the evidence suggests she is not. At every stop, she’s been filmed getting off Big Blue looking rested and radiant. She dazzles onlookers and interviewers with her seemingly bottomless reserves of energy. And no one suspects she may secretly be hopping on and off her main means of transport, UJT750, and resting up in hotels.
And more on the jet phenom from one of those pesky bloggers HERE. Harper Collins confirms use of the plane HERE.
Sarah Palin Throws Chief John Wooden Legs Under the Bus, also.
When I read “Going Rogue” I remember reading the quote at the beginning of Chapter 3. Some of you, like me, may have wondered why UCLA basketball coach John Wooden was quoted with the following:
Our land is everything to us… I will tell you one of the things we remember on our land. We remember our grandfathers paid for it–with their lives.
Ohhhkay.
Well, here’s the answer from Geoffrey Dunn whose book “The Lies of Sarah Palin” is due out in the spring. It wasn’t John Wooden.
It was written by a Native American activist named John Wooden Legs in an essay entitled “Back on the War Ponies,” which appeared in a left-wing anthology, We Are the People: Voices from the Other Side of American History, edited by Nathaniel May, Clint Willis, and James W. Loewen.
Doh!
Obviously this one slipped by Sister Sarah and her crack team of investigative journalists Lynn Vincent, Meg Stapleton and Ivy Frye, as well as all those dutiful fact checkers at HarperCollins. Obviously, they didn’t get the quote from anything Wooden ever wrote, but from a cute little web site called The Quote Garden. Isn’t that sweet?

akfishergirl @51 ~ that is a great report. You give me hope.

If S’error can use the quote site so can I. I think this should apply to Lady Sarah:
The thorns which I have reap’d are of the tree
I planted; they have torn me, and I bleed.
I should have known what fruit would spring from such a seed.

they made her leave the bus and get on the jet. it wasn’t her idea, no she wanted to be on the ground with the people, but they made her do it.

FYI- New York Times poll on SP going to Ft. Hood. 68% said yes. 30% said no and 2% unsure. She is donating royalties from sales to victim’s families.

Speaking of quotes… remember this quote from Palin after the VP loss?
“I have absolutely no intention of engaging in any of the negativity, because this has been all positive for me, for what I believe in, the values that I represent and the progress that I want to see America be able to make.” -Sarah Palin

I can see it now:
The Rogue to Nowhere: The True Story of Sarah Wooden Head, aka Palinocchio by Todd “under the bus but not changin’ the diapers” Doe. Forward by Levi “let me see my kid” Johnston. Epilogue by Bristol “abstinence doesn’t rule” Doe. Appendix by Piper “stop the merry go round, I want to get off this %^(# plane” Doe.

I don’t think the bus/plane thing is a big deal. It’s a private plane being paid for by private enterprise (you know, the small backbone-of-America business Harper Collins) and not a government plane. Government really should cut back on expenses for travel and communication. Chevy Volts and dialup AOL for all of ‘em, I say!

Hilarious. So she uses the bus just for a giant billboard to get her mug in front of the public.
December 1st, 2009 at 3:18 AM
With all the money Harper Collins is spending on this little tour of Palin’s (which is likely much more than the money that they’ve already advanced her), plus the purchases of the books via Murdoch’s other interests like Newsmax that propelled the pulp to the best sellers list, ya gotta wonder what the actual profit will be.

didn’t Palin say something about a private jet being “over the top”?
December 1st, 2009 at 5:55 AM
I am sure that Sarah really, really want to throw someone at HarperCollins under the bus for “forcing” her to take that jet when she really wanted to travel in the bus across the country that she loves. Cough.Cough.
But, she can’t because they are her bread and butter. The are the ones who gave her millions in advance for that thing they call a book. Plus, Murdock is buying up her book to make it appear that she is a “best-selling” author. I am sure it’s making Palin crazy to have to keep her mouth shut and not blame the publisher for this.
It’s obvious that this book is NOT flying off the shelves. I wonder how many of those advance sales are from Newsmax? Most of them?
December 1st, 2009 at 6:03 AM
@60, It’s not as much about the plane, as it is about Palin lying. The false impression that she was riding across the country in that bus while she is being flown around in a private jet is the story here. She is a fraud.
@62 OMG, I can’t imagine that there will be any profit from this book. Palin got a huge advance and the sales are not there…except for Murdock himself buying up the book. Plus, this book tour has to be costing them a pretty penny with the over-the-top-ego bus.
I doubt it’s even working as a promotional tool for Newsmax subscriptions. I wonder how many books he bought and at what price?
This whole thing is an illusion created by a marketing deptartment.

We went to our local library last night and my husband yelled out, “Oh No, there’s the Palin book!” On the New Arrivals book shelf.
1st reaction: Oh No, you’re kidding me! They bought those books with our tax dollars for HERE????!!!!!!
2nd reaction: Frowned, walked away.
3rd reaction: Came back and turned book around… smirk!
4th reaction: Great! At least there’s no long Reserve List for the book — highly unusual for our heavy reading community.
5th reaction: Ick! I touched that book! Never wanted to do that — ever!

Hold on a sec… that’s not Harpers Gulfstream, it belongs to Billy Grahams’ Samaritan Purse. You remember the OTHER ‘SP’, no?

Sorry if this ‘revelation’ is not fresh. I just read posts about it on page one. Like many pups here… since the default on comments goes to the most recent page first and not the first page… I tend to respond to what’s right in front of me and THEN go and read from the beginning! Just an excitable boy. Boyo, I mean! Thanks for your patience, all!

Palin is what happens when a person who thinks they already know everything knows nothing. Mistake after mistake and one lie after another is uncovered, and the result is always a disaster.
December 1st, 2009 at 10:22 AM
Perhaps this was posted before and I missed it.
I “read” most of my books on my mp3 player and get the books for free from our local library site, who gets them from Clevnet. I just saw that Sarah’s book is available to download and….yikes…is read by her! I thought there could be nothing worse than a book written by her…but having to listen to her read it has to be a millions times worse!!

Have to say “The Rogue to Nowhere” was the funniest line I’ve heard yet.
The way the expenses are adding up on the non-seller book and all the promos with bus and planes, HC must have purchased an an Insurance policy that would pay them double IF the deals don’t make their bottom line profit. After all, that is how big business is done in this country…a default swap on Scarah?
Wonder if they are expecting any overseas sales? They’ll probably ship a boat-load to Russia since it’s so close…also.
Where can she run to after this fiasco leaves her red-faced and completely undone by the backlash from the book? Oh oh. It’s not like she could hide anywhere in AK and mix in with the natives. LA calling.

An 83 year woman that I know told me today that all her family members except for one have switched from the Republican party to the Democrats because of all the bull crap and Sarah. Way too go Sarah!

Jane @ 60 – Palin is pretending to be a bus-ridin’ populist.
If I am getting this right, she is flying between bookstore locations, presumably the bus is also traveling to each of these locations. So she gets off the bus at the airport, flies to the airport closest to the next stop, the bus is driven to that airport to pick her up, then take her to the next signing location. Talk about waste of energy. Of course, as soon as SP opens her mouth she adds to global warming. You betcha.

— thanks for the link to the fast times with that video of Palin nitwits who showed up to buy her book and get it signed. Wow, that was a painful 8 minutes to watch. I did make it all the way through, though I had to force myself to finish watching. No surprise (and my hat’s off to the interviewer) that most of them had no idea of Sarah’s specific stance on any political policiy when pressed to go beyond the typical buzz words they were spewing.

AKM – you state.
“I believe it was Celtic Diva that broke the plane story originally, which was expanded by Joe McGinniss. She spoke to me about the story before it was posted anywhere else. I linked at the bottom of the page. Geoffrey Dunn added much more to the Wooden Leg story than I had seen before, but wasn’t sure where that popped up at first, but I don’t think it was the PI…I think it was a blog. Not sure. AKM”
Yes, it is true Celtic Diva broke a story that Palin travelled one day by a plane owned by Samaritan Purse. That is a completely different plane story to the story which is now viral in the media. The plane story which Palingates researched and proved. There are two planes involved in these stories.
Palingates wrote about the Samaritans Purse plane story and gave Celtic Diva proper credit when they did so.
However the Samaritans Purse plane is not the Guulfstream luxury jet plane provided by Harper Collins and which Palingates wrote was used by Palin on her tour. This was a separate plane story by Palingates and was the one which went viral not the Samaritans Purse one.
Additionally, Palingates also deserves credit for the plane story as Joe McGinnis contacted Patrick at Palingates for additional information regarding the plane which Palin is using for the “bus tour”. That information was used by Joe McGinnis in his blog and he credits Palingates for providing it and the inspiration for his story.

The Sarah Palin Book of Lies was brought in by one of the ladies in the office for our Christmas White Elephant Exchange (aka Yankee Swap or Dirty Santa Exchange). Generally, the idea is to bring in a joke gift… It drew a huge laugh… but was never “stolen.”
Too funny!
December 1st, 2009 at 1:32 PM
What continues to stun me about Palin is her absolute lack of self doubt. She has total belief and confidence in her crushing incompetence and intellectual shallowness. Gloria Steinhem makes a devastating analogy in “Going Rouge”, when she says: “To vote in protest for McCain/Palin would be like saying, “Somebody stole my shoes, so I’ll amputate my legs.”

If it really matters- more on the charter plane flights.

BahstinBoyo wrote: “Hold on a sec… that’s not Harpers Gulfstream, it belongs to Billy Grahams’ Samaritan Purse. You remember the OTHER ‘SP’, no?”
Boyo, you need to hold on a sec. That was overdone blogger spin about the Gulfstream airplane belonging to Samaritan’s Purse. It isn’t true. The story keeps getting repeated in anti-Palin blogs, but it’s still not true. That claim was a hoax that has already been debunked.
My understanding is that there were two different planes, one belonging to Samaritan’s Purse and the other belonging to Harper Collins. She used both of them at various times. AKM
