When candidate Obama came to my town in May 2008, I'll have Hubby of Teacher know that *zero* fights broke out as we waited in line for over an hour to get into the auditorium (we had to go thru security, so it took a while). What a weird thing to think!

Nice write up, LibertyLover, and thanks for taking one for the mudflatters!

Liberty lover great report and you were not snarky. I agree with you I think most want what is best for our country, just a different way to go about it,and IMO palins way is way wrong and that sheriff down there.I think he has let power
over take good sense. I read where he arrested his opponents and put them in jail for minor or made up offenses. As far as the book goes if you relative did not get one it would be a nice gift for him if they lean that way.If nothing else maybe some who read it will see her for what she is and not what she claims to be.

I used to live in Arizona, went to High School there and have relatives there still. I am glad I left - I grew up in the desert but can't take the heat anymore. You have stronger nerves than I do - I do not suffer fools gladly.

Way to take one for the team, LibertyLover! I'm in awe of both your patience and your humor. And as always, I'm slightly terrified by the glimpse into the world of Sarah-worshippers. I hope the memories will fade quickly for you!

I've never really understood hero worship (which is what these people are experiencing with Sarah Palin), but maybe that's because I've had the privilege (or just plain luck) to meet and be in the presence of several celebrities. They were just people.

And as Tiger Woods has proven this week once again, very human in their behavior, insecurities, worries, pain and joys... just like the rest of us un-anointed ones. Putting people on pedestals does two things: it elevates them to a status above you and it diminishes who you are.

You are every bit as important and valid a person as they are, maybe moreso, because you are probably not trying to seek your own self worth in other people's adulation. And when heros fall from grace, it's a long way to fall and a very hard landing.

I think that for me, at least, hero worship is kinda of silly phenomenon... (with the exception of maybe Robert Redford perhaps ;) or maybe the poet/songwriter Don Henley and.... maybe... ) :)

Enough pop philosophy for one day... :)

Hey, great write up, felt I was there!

And good on you for listening to the conservatives politely and making your points.

It's interesting to me how some conservatives (i.e. Teacher Lady's husband) feel the need to MAKE STUFF UP. I have, to date, not seen any liberal or progressive events where "fights broke out". It doesn't even make sense! Why would liberals fight with each other when they are all there to see the President?

There was a MASSIVE rally in St Louis, right before the election and no fights. I don't remember the exact number of the crowd but wasn't it close to 100,000? I think if fights broke out in that size crowd, we would have seen it on the news. Geez.

Someone mentioned above that Palin always refers to the President as "Obama". It is the height of insult. President Obama won the 2008 election fair and square and therefore earned the title of President. If Sarah insists on being called Governor when she QUIT half way thru - then she should have the (Christian) decency to show respect to a CURRENT SITTING President.

Lastly - it was great to see some of the conservatives actually giving Obama a chance. Albeit a SLIVER of a chance, still, a chance nonetheless.

Thanks for your report! She's not coming to a Costco/Walmart near me, but I think I'd have to be there protesting. I admire your ability to handle that sitution so well and appreciate experiencing it vicariously.

Thank you all for your kind words...
And thanks to AKM for allowing me to share this experience with you...

I'm assuming comments from fans of Sarah Palin are ending up in moderation purgatory... :)

Thank you for your account! I'm sure Scarah is very personable in person. She would have NEVER gotten this far if she wasn't.

But so are snake oil salesmen. . . . and televengelists. . . . And I don't trust either one.
