Roguey Rules & Regs for Palin’s Book Signing Leaked! (Updated)
Oops. Don’t you hate it when things are “inadvertently distributed” at work? Or when you’ve got to explain a … errr….”miscommunication?” Such is the plight of our friends at the largest shopping mall in the history of ever – Mall of America in Minnesota.
So, what leaked was inadvertently distributed? And what did they let slipmiscommunicate?
Well, nothing’s ever dull when Sarah Palin comes to town. And this stop is no exception. Mama Mia.
And according to the leakage from the security people in the mall to reporters, that last line I just wrote (in bold), could get me booted out of an audience with Sarah Palin if I was a journalist covering her Going Rogue book signing tour. And I could get booted out not only once, but twice! Yes, that innocent little line that never meant any harm to anyone contains two (count ‘em TWO) infractions of the Going Rogue rules according to the Associated Press.

That was the message sent out by officials at the Mall of America this week, who told reporters planning to cover the Minneapolis-area stop on Palin’s “Going Rogue” book tour they must address the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate by her former title. The guidelines also banned foreign reporters, allowing “only English speaking press.”
Mall officials said the guidelines were a mistake, and apologized Wednesday to Palin for the mix up, which they called “an internal miscommunication” that was “inadvertently distributed.”
Whoa, Nellie. For the woman who said that she “didn’t need a title,” she apparently still clings to the old one like grim death. And as for the “English only” part? Oy vey. (Dang! I just got booted out again!)
One can only imagine the beleaguered spokesperson at Harper Collins who is having to deal with more drama in two weeks than she normally does in a year.
“That should never have been in any kind of press release,” said Tina Andreadis, a publicist for publisher HarperCollins in New York,
Translation: “Oh, crap!”
who added foreign reporters would be welcome at Palin’s Mall of America stop.
Now.
“That’s not the message the governor wants to send out,” she said.
I’m sure it’s not, but it would seem that it’s a tad too late.
“Good afternoon! Thank you for calling SarahPAC. For English press 1, for other languages please hang up.”
And just yesterday, Palin announced she would now be charging for photos. Those poor suckers who camp outside of Costco for the chance to get their books signed by the Their Most Holy of Mothers and Second Coming End Times Dinosaur Rider must now fork over 15.99 for a 5×7 of Sarah signing their book. The cost to print a 5×7 is 1.59. Somebody found a new way to grift. And, also, too, a nice way to collect addresses for SarahPAC. Wait, this isn’t a campaign, right?
Previously, the rules were slightly diva-ish: “You may NOT take photos of Gov Palin at the signing table. You may take your photos from a distance, but you will be asked to put away your camera and cell phone as you approach the table.”
But now, they can no longer take photos with their own cameras, but must pay for prints. “This photo opportunity is provided by SarahPAC”. Yes, the opportunities for Sarah to make money off of her followers never end! They can donate to the Alaska Trust Fund (a trust set up for Sarah for any purpose she chooses), SarahPAC, or one of her many other “endeavors”. Go build another house for free, Sarah,! Oops, she’s already doing that. A real down-to-earth workin’ class gal, that Sarah.
Palin was still under media lockdown (such as it is) for her appearance at the College of the Ozarks last night, where not only was media not permitted in an official capacity, but local reporters were actually contacted and ASKED not to attend the event. This brings to mind when I had a toddler who called from the other room, “Don’t come in here, Mommy!” “Why?” I asked. “Because I don’t want you to see what I’m doing!” That’s what you call a hot tip.
So, I would imagine that asking a reporter NOT to attend an event is pretty much going to guarantee that they’re going to. Those dang journalists with their reporting and their asking questions and their writing stuff down. Why can’t they just leave her and her giant media blitz book tour alone??

An update from Palin’s speech at the College of the Ozarks: Guess the press ignored their invitation to not attend the event.
As always, people take from these speeches what they like and, to some, this was an inspirational call to arms by a woman who started as a city councilwoman and rose to national prominence, and calls it like she sees it. But this was also undeniably a full defense against her political opponents and what she calls attacks by the mainstream media.
In her 50-minute address to about 4,000 people at Keeter Gymnasium, Palin blasted the mainstream media at least five different times for spinning her story; defended her decision to step down last summer as Alaska’s governor, saying it “has worked for her state;” and blamed government for the economic crisis, slamming the economic stimulus package.
Palin, wearing red, served up the red meat and the crowd ate it up.
Dear Press, I’m going to be shredding you and I’d rather you not report about it, so please stay home. I can’t believe that strategy didn’t work!
UPDATE RE: Mall of America Gaffes!
Ruh-roh… Can you say “back pedal?” In another wordsmithed statement, Mall of America is taking the blame according to their PR drector.
Dan Jasper called the comments poorly worded and “definitely an error on our part and don’t reflect our policies.”
“I personally would like to apologize to Gov. Palin and anyone connected to the book tour because absolutely this was an issue on our end.”
Jasper said the internal notes were sent to one AP reporter who had contacted the mall about the guidelines for Palin’s visit from noon to 4 p.m. Monday for her memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life.”
So remember. The press release doesn’t reflect Mall of America’s values, and it doesn’t reflect Palin’s values. It was just in the internal notes that got out by mistake.
Will heads roll? No, according to Jasper. He said that mall staffers will “be more careful” in the future.
Why is everything associated with Mrs Palin such a mess?
Hmm … wonder if the new photo charges are a sign of rapidly declining book profits? The publisher gets shafted over low book sales, but SarahPAC sees the opportunity to keep the cash flow humming by charging for photos?
Reminds me of my wife, and her love of Jodi Piccoult. She and several friends had a chance to see her at a book signing several years ago. Not only could she come in to the store with her own copy of the book, she could (and did) take several photos with Jodi and the rest of the group of friends. For free. also.
oh, and literally sitting on the edge of my seat to read about the College of the Ozarks visit. That story should be a hoot
I was just thinking yesterday about needing to let the gardeners in the community garden I help coordinate know that come spring I’ll have to rogue any potato plants that come up because they might have blight, and I thought “my goodness! when plants are diseased or out of place or just plain wrong you rogue them, or remove them.”

Reporter says she spent over half her speech attacking the MSM for spinning her story (and all this time I thought, they were unspinning it). One of her followers says this, “I loved it because it was so refreshing to just hear someone not cast blame, point fingers. It was just inspiring and encouraging, and just asking us to be proud again,” said Miranda Snowden.
Makes you wonder if they even hear the words spewing from SP’s mouth or are they just so transfixed by the holy glow emanating from her that they hear nothing…preferring to bask in her presence?

It is amazing to me how many people believe her BS… She is fake, a liar, a quitter and now she is in the fleecing business. People have enough money problems without her taking them to the cleaners. I find it hard to understand how one’s attempt to remove books from a library, not permitted the media to attend public events, and has so often ramble on about this great country and its constitution can do such things. Sarah has a third world dictator mine set. Shae acts like she from South America.

Palin is campaigning, no mistake about it. She is trying to build her base by talking to the College and the Bowling group. I would not be a bit surprised to see her address all sorts of other groups that we might chuckle about but that will increase her base all the more. She will not allow the press because she wants to schmooze these people without being held accountable for what she says by the media and outside interests.
She may be an integrity challenged idiot but she knows how to manipulate and get what she wants. She is a very dangerous person to be on the national stage.
Along those lines, I sent another email to Ft. Hood asking them to reconsider having her on the base to promote herself and her book. Her latest FB rant about President Obama’s proposal on Afghanistan should disqualify her because she has criticized their Commander in Chief yet again and has done so for her own personal gain and that of her right wing political affiliations.

Sarah charging an outrageous amount of money for a photo with her reminds me of what has happened to baseball. Bob Costas, the sportscaster, lamented that it is no longer a game. It is a business.
Once, ballplayers gave autographs to fans for nothing. Then the autographs were sold, and the players began to charge. They make millions of dollar a year, and yet they charge for an autograph.
Sarah Palin is no longer the governor. By her own choice, she gave up that position. If she had finished her term of office, she might deserve the honor of still being called “governor.” But, like baseball, Sarah is a business. It’s really distressing to confront the fact there are people who can think “Sarah Palin” and “selfless” at the same time w/out vomitting at least a little bit. It sounds like her Ozarks speech was a piece of textbook dominionist PsyOps: manipulative emotional appeals with the underlying message Gov’t bad – Power to the church. I can envision Palin having her own private Jesus Jet in a few years.
Seriously, are the reporters supposed to use her title when they talk to her? But wait, they aren’t allowed to talk to her.

And what the heck, have you seen pictures of how Sally Heath was holding Trig? Good grief, she was holding him by his pant belt loops, giving him a diaper wedgy. And her voice! Ack. Why do people speak with that high pitch? It’s very annoying. And, it was dang cold yesterday, Trig should have had a coat on. Chuck is a load of BS every time he opens his mouth, Scarah got the BS gift from him, she just fine tuned it and is a craftier BS’er. It’s frightening to think of what the next generation turns out like. Hopefully Toad’s influence breaks the chain? I guess Piper went back to school. That’s good.
I think it’s safe to say she’s acting like a political figure and has NO business on Ft. Hood base. She continues to publicly bash our President and give policy advice while insisting on being addressed Governor, that is a political figure.
This is the same crowd that touts big time evangelists as being “selfless”. Have you seen where Billie Graham lives? Have you seen his car and driver? Does his son have a private jet? These people may be religious but they are not selfless–if they were then they would live like the people they say they are here to support and they would give their millions to starving people around the world to help them help themselves.

I just read that link regarding her speech last evening. Even more interesting were the comments from her rabid supporters. The one thing that jumps out at me with the majority of the comments, is the terribly spelling and grammar. Most of us make errors of this sort, but not so consistently as her followers seem to. Does it appear that way to others also?
I have sent yet another letter to Fort Hood, and have provided links to her Facebook and several other recent news stories that reference her possible run for 2012 President. I hope others will continue to write the post, although I doubt at this late date that anything will be done to cancel her.
GreatGranny2C…I sent my email to Ft. Hood as well. It is against their regulations to let people campaign on base. And even if Ms. Palin doesn’t open her mouth while she is there, she has been and will continue to campaign for herself and against President Obama before and after her visit. They need to connect the dots and deny her access.

Okay, now she’s hit a nerve. This whole “English only” thing is a pet peeve of mine (full disclosure: I’m a Spanish teacher). It’s the attitude of people like her, that god forbid we should stoop to learn another language. After all, we’re “Americuns”, and everyone should speak our sacred language. Today on the way to work, I pulled up behind a black Buick Rainier with these 2 bumper stickers:

Catchy! I peeked over to catch a glimpse of the Palinbot and beheld a White, Middle Aged, majorly balding man, on his cell phone at the stop light. No surprises here.
My initial reaction: eye roll, raised eyebrow, deep sigh. As I drove away, the absurdity of “Palin for President” rippled over me and I just had to giggle.
This woman is prepostrous. HOW in any stretch of the imagination can she be President of this great country? What will she do at the UN or NATO? Ask that everyone speak English, please? What of the Press Corp – will they be restricted to reporting about the Palin kids and Todd’s work-out schedule? Will the State of the Union under President Palin be closed to the Press?

Dave Cantanese, the Springfield KY3 political reporter, said on the 5:00 news last night that any media would be kicked out if they tried to ask any her questions. Her way or no way. She’s a chicken sh*t. How’s that for restricting first amendment rights. She’s going to rile the press and get attention, one way or another, good or bad, it all works for her, free advertising. Dang, I so hope this blows up in her face. I should have protested her.
I encourage others to take advantage of the media opportunity to speak out against Scarah, she’s lying, this is not about her book, she’s campaigning! I blew it, I should have showed up to ridicule the pathetic excuse making QUITTER queen.

Can I just ask – when did it become ok to “ask” reporters not to report on a public event? Even it is closed to the Press – they should still be allowed to report that it is happening. I think the spiritual laws (some call it Karma) are at work here. Sarah’s diva demands have been exposed to everyone. She is a diva. Now, she, and the ultra-political christian leaders (James Dobson and others) would say she is called for a purpose. This time I agree.
But the purpose may not be what they believe. I think the “purpose” is that God wants to show people that He is not mocked, that He does not allow someone to use His name and grift his people. The “purpose” may be that God wants to teach a lesson to the lukewarm christians of the laodicean church not to revere, worship another human being. That the church has elevated people way to highly.

Also, Ezekiel 34, was speaking at the time to the priests who were doing the same thing, getting all politico-religious. “Woe to the shepherds of Israel who only take care of themselves. HELP – The Palin is to be in my great State of Oklahoma this evening and even though I am 150 miles from where she will be wowing her adorers, I still feel contaminated!! Technically, etiquette rules ask that since only one person can hold an office at a time, a former incumbent returns to the previously highest held offce, in this case, mayor. She would be referred to as “the Honorable Sarah Palin.” DON’T LAUGH. Technically, this is true for presidents as well, however, it’s clear the media has re-written this rule as it pleases them at the time. It’s never Gov. Clinton or Gov. Bush, it’s always “President” or “Mister” depending on the reporter’s taste.
This is America, and no one is granted a title for life. You can’t require someone to use it. Granting the title of Governor to a former incumbent is a courtesy in recognition of service. Stop laughing!
However, in no circumstance is it correct to refer to Sarah as “the governor” since she’s not “the governor.” She may be addressed as Governor Palin as a courtesy, although considering her statement about not needing a title it seems hypocritical to cling to this one–especially since she quit.
One really must wonder how on earth this press release came about. I don’t think MOM took it upon themselves to make up this stuff. Clearly there was some communication from the Palin camp or HC regarding these two rather bizarre requests. Like her former brother-in-law said its all about Sarah. She doesn’t give a “hoot” about others and more importantly she doesn’t give a “hoot” about her family. I have never seen a “politican” parade their family like she does. How much longer can she keep up this facade? One day, and I hope it’s soon, she will crack. If you listen to her rabid fans they keep saying she’s “like a rock star”. They are taken in by her lacquered and varnished looks which have no substance whatsoever. If she were ever to become President, God forbid, her fans would see the real Sarah that we see. A deceitfull, dishonest, vindictive, small-minded person that she really is.
If she asked them to drink the “kool-aid” like Jim Jones did, I’m sure they would comply.

The MOA is huge and often has international visitors. Heck, people fly here just to shop for the day and then fly out. I cannot fathom for one minute that they would initiate banning ‘foreign reporters’. IMO that idea had to originate from the Palin camp… but that’s my opinion.

As a Presbyterian Pastor who served in Tulsa for 12 years at a church long supportive of the College, and sharing with Sam and Helen Walton at numerous luncheons in the Tulsa area, I have admired deeply the character of the school and its unique commitment to providing a quality education for students who might otherwise be unable to attend college because of financial constraints.
Yet, I was shocked when I read of the decision to have Sarah Palin as a college guest to address matters of character and morals.
There are dozens and dozens of ably qualified speakers from all sorts of religious and political persuasions who might address such matters with skill and experience, but to suggest that Ms. Palin is qualified is a matter for Saturday Night Live.
That she’s a lightening rod for the far right-wing is undeniable, but as a speaker on these matters? Hardly.
I’m disappointed in the decision to invite Ms. Palin, though I’m sure there are monied interests behind this, and knowing the tough role of a college President these days, I’m sure there are some interesting guns being held to your head on this one.
I sympathize with your position, and I suspect you’d have rather chosen any number of other far-better qualified people.
Wishing you the best … and to honor the heart of the founder of the school, you might well invite a missionary, a pastor or a professor of ethics to address matters of morals and character … I would suggest historian Diana Butler Bass as an able and knowledgeable speaker for the college, or the Rev. Dr. Michael Lindvall, pastor of Brick Presbyterian Church, New York City, a most excellent preacher and a teller of stories.

A lot of family live overseas and they all know about MOA and consider it a must-see if they are any where near the Midwest on their travels. This can not be lost on the folks at MOA and so it’s odd that this communication would have initiated from them.
I can understand MOA wanting to show due respect to Palin – that part I can accept probably came from them. But – Palin cannot deny her trend of excluding the Press from her events. The English-only Press directive sounds more like it came from Palin than MOA.
But as usual – the Wasilla Thrilla escapes accountability.

I absolutely agree about the arrogance of most Americans who refuse to see the benefit of speaking another language. I am Hungarian by birth and I speak three languages. My son-in-law is Swedish and speaks five! DH and I have traveled extensively and always try to learn some words and phrases in the languages of the countries we visit. Still, I am always amazed at the number of people who speak ENGLISH even in the remotest areas.
I am appalled at the number of people who take pride in their ignorance as if it were noble. Puh-leese. All that ignorance means is that they are too bloody lazy to take the time to exercise their brain cells.
AND, I don’t know why Rupert Murdoch and Harper Collins is wasting so much money on $arah Palin and her book (ahem) tour. Just send her speech to all the stops and have it read. She repeats the same thing over and over – blah blah blah. What a loser.

English is not my first language and so appreciate how hard it is to move to a new country and trying to learn the language. I got plenty of help in Sydney as a child plus my parents, who both grew up in the Philippines, spoke fluent English, as well as Mandarin, our dialect and Filipino.
It’s too bad so many people can’t see fit to even be curious about other cultures let alone learn from them.

Sarah keeps preaching her faith to the evangelicals who worship every word she says. I strongly recommend reading Bishop John Spong’s books. He brings levity by using scripture and science to our modern world of Christianity.

I’ve recommended this book to people who grew up highly indoctrinated by religious dogma, and it really helped them get over the “guilt trip” created by their church.

As regards the “title” thingee – -
Titles for those not actively holding the office or rank usually imply a successful and honorable completion of the term of office. Nobody refers to “Duke” Cunningham or Bob Ney as “Congressman” and no one referred to Dick Nixon as Mr. President.
Bill and W completed their terms, thus, the honorific.
Sarah didn’t complete the job, ergo Ms is more than appropriate. Maybe she’s just suffering from “premature rejectulation,” eh ??

When I was in HS back in the late 60s, those of us planning to attend college were strongly advised to take 2 years of a foreign language. I can’t remember if the foreign language was actually required by the colleges or simply preferred–we just did it and nobody had a cow over it.

CUPERTINO (The Borowitz Report) – In what it hopes will be a blockbuster addition to its trove of popular iPhone applications, Apple announced today that it was introducing a new app that can translate the utterances of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin into English.
The application, called the iPal, is available for downloading today, the company confirmed.
According to Apple, a user of the iPal app can hold his iPhone up to a television when Ms. Palin is appearing and receive a real-time English translation in text form.
Carol Foyler, 34, an early adopter of the iPal app, said that the application is not without its glitches, however.

My version would go like this:
When I was in HS back in the late 70s-early 80s, those of us planning to attend college were strongly advised to take 2 years of a foreign language. I got impression that if we wanted to go to a state University (CA) the foreign language was actually required by the colleges and it was also a smart choice for many out-of-state school. Likewise, we just did it and nobody had a cow over it.
Point? No, there’s nothing wrong with people speaking languages other than English! The only gripe I would ever have is if someone puts themself in a situation where they know they will routinely need to communicate with others in a language in which they are not familiar, and do not make a whole-hearted attempt to try to learn that new language to at least some degree.
As many have pointed out, MOA is a destination where one would expect to find people speaking many different languages. So the ‘English Press Only” misinformation leak is strange. As others have mentioned, the germ of it MUST have come from the Palin side.
Bright side, now that the HarperCollins spokesperson has thus spake, Sarah’s gonna have a heck of a time trying to dodge all that media. They claim the concern was time, but the proof of the pudding is always in the choices you make.
Well see who she grants precious interviews to.

When Kennedy ran for the Presidency he loved to move into the crowd and shake hands. His right hand was crushed by enthusastic fans so often it actually began to swell. So film and photos taken late in the campaign show Kennedy extending his left hand.
I hate to defend Sarah but she has shaken a lot of hands lately, and that may be the reason. Plus she needs to keep her right hand functional for signing.

Every time Chucky is asked about Scarah’s future in politics, he says he doesn’t know, that they don’t talk politics.
Yet in his letter to Nevadan’s he says the opposite, me thinks he’s a big fat liar. Also, too. Chucky, Chucky, Chucky, tsk, tsk, tsk. Thou shalt NOT lie. It’s a commandment from GOD. It’s in the bible, the written living word of God. You and Scarah don’t get to bend the commandments. Either you are REAL believers or you are LIARS.
But somehow, I’m sure you both have a different view on truthfulness and real integrity. And you have the audacity to claim Scarah tell’s it like it is. Yeah, maybe like it is in her warped mind. I think you’re both full of BS.

here is a brief recap of today’s exciting adventures at the Palin booksighing [sic] in norman oklahoma……..apparently folks were up and in line at the crack of dawn to get a coveted wristband (500 apparently dispersed)……talked to some folks who self-identified themselves as the “wannabees” aka 501, 502, 503, etc who were told that if additional wristbands were distributed they would be the ones to get ‘em.
at noon there were some folks in tents and sleeping bags all bundled up against the 33 degree weather. in the gated “wannabee” section folks were in the sunlight so not so bad – i would say there were 20 people.
the “1-500 area” was in the shade and only about two dozen folks were staking out their claim.
the wannabees were an interesting group…….stopped and chatted with them awhile. the funniest part was that “wannabee 508″ was reading Stephen Colbert’s book “I am America”.
asked everyone what they were reading and most showed us their palin books — asked the colbert fellow if he was enjoying his book and he said he was trying to entertain folks with passages from the book, but no one was laughing.
well, i laughed.
around 5:30 we drove by the local private airport to see if anyone was conspicuously waiting for the queen to arrive……..the lobby was empty.
about 5:30 drove by the Hastings book store……..the lot was full and folks were walking across main street from the old walmart parking lot (now a hobby lobby mardell combo). the majority of the traffic was going to the Mall.
about 6:00 drove by our only “nice hotel”………no bus.
the more important news in norman tonight is that the Notre Dame jet was seen at our local private airport and rumors are flying that they are poaching on our fabulous football couch – Bob Stoops. THAT my friend is serious stuff and hopefully will push palin right off the radar screen out here in Sooner football land.
btw — our saturday football games attract 100,000 people REGULARLY.
so a meager 1000 palin fans isn’t even a drop in the bucket.

Did anybody notice Palin got something right? She was quoted as saying her quitting “has worked for her state.” Her reasoning is seriously flawed, but the fact remains that we are better off without her as our governor. Does anybody else have bits of Roy Clark singing Thank God and Greyhound going through their heads?
