    CALL TO NON-ACTION!

Palin strikes again with the help of the Washington Post. The Post is being slammed for running another Palin op-ed, this one about her call for Obama to boycott the climate talks in Copenhagen. DO NOT CLICK ON AND READ HER OP-ED. Her piece is reported to be the same as her FB posting so there’s no news in her scathing remarks and needn’t be read. As I said, the Post is catching it from many sides, including some of their own columnists, for running another Palin propaganda piece. Many, are suggesting we not click on the on-line story to not give it the attention the paper wants. IT’S TIME TO BOYCOTT PALIN!

I’ve just finished “Going ROUGE – An American Nightmare” and what a good book! I wish it was getting more publicity.

One of the most villifying articles was by Matt Taibbi. My favorite comment from him:

“Sarah Palin is a symbol of everything that is wrong with the modern U.S. As a representative of our political system, she’s a new low in reptilian villainy, the ultimate cynical masterwork of puppeteers like Karl Rove.

But more than that, she is a horrifying symbol of how little we ask for in return for the total surrender of our political power.

Not only is Sarah Palin a fraud, she’s the tawdriest, most half-assed fraud imaginable, twenty floors below the lowest common denominator, a character too dumb even for daytime TV – and this country is going to eat her up, cheering her every step of the way.”

Morning all ! We had the beginnings of an ice storm last night but temps rose through the night and we bypassed damage in my neck of the woods. Big winds and snow rolling in for tonight though. Have to do the “flashlights and candles” check today.

Will be updating the new Palin news site today. Tried to do it yesterday but was feeling rather “palin toxic”. I’ve got a lot of links collected that will be added but if you have some that you would especially like to see included, go to http://www.PalinDigest.presspublisher.us and send to the email address at the bottom of the page.

    On another note:
The media is the one creating the hype about Palin, and if you read the comments on every story…on every web site…or blog….most are negative. I was reading a story about Palin on Politico yesterday and most of the comments were negative…even on that site. Yet, the media is trying to create this hype.

    The good news:
I sent that photo of Palin getting off of her jet and on to her bus to two close relatives who happen to be Evangelical Christians. Guess what?
One replied with “I hate her” The other replied, “I really dislike her”.

This is supposed to be her base who loves her—Evangelical Christians! My sister (the, I hate her) has a child with disabilities. She is NOT impressed with the way Sarah uses her child as a prop!

When it was discovered that James Frey wrote a book that had lies, he was shamed and his publisher was shamed. When Palin writes a book that has proven lies, she gets an OpEd in the WaPo. They should be doing some fact checking on her “story” rather than publishing the OpEd.

@7 pearl. Regarding the polls, how can they compare someone who is making difficult decisions and is being held responsible for the US economy and world peace…..to someone who is selling books. In Palin’s own words, she has “no real responsibilities”.

Trisha – It is so true when you mention all the negative comments. It really IS the media who are pushing Palin, with the exception of so few like Keith and Rachel. I have completely stopped watching Chris Matthews – I heard him mention the tingle in his leg that Palin gives him for the last time. I’ve read in several places, that the men are thinking below their belts because of her attractiveness and winking.

We must keep hoping that more and more will bring the truth about her to light.

As to Imhofe and his buddies going to the Climate Change summit to protest US and Obama policies, it would seem that the State Dept. could give them a flat out NO. Aren’t there laws in place about elected officials going to foreign countries and bashing our government?

One of the comments Palin made in “her” Op-Ed, leaves me wondering just what she really DID do on this issue – anyone know?

“I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state. I was one of the first governors to create a subcabinet to deal specifically with the issue and to recommend common-sense policies to respond to the coastal erosion, thawing permafrost and retreating sea ice that affect Alaska’s communities and infrastructure.”

  24. 24
    LiladyNYNo Gravatar says:

I read the HuffPo article and comments this morning. Many of the comments are scathing to say the least.

Many point out that SP did not write the op-ed and that the WaPo is editorially remiss in not printing an opposition piece to keep appropriate balance (although everyone knows that the WaPo leans heavily right – still they should TRY to maintain some integrity).

I am encouraged that people are speaking out in larger numbers and publicizing her many abuses during her (truncated) political career. These “gates” need to be brought public more and more, Dairygate and the Alaskan “death panels” just to name two of the most serious ones. AND, it cannot be emphasized too often that Wasilla was calling for her recall for abuse of power when she was mayor and that she QUIT nearly every position to which she was appointed or elected.

I LOVE the picture of Buf running in the snow. I am reminded of my old girl, Taffy, who loved snow more than anything. She would burrow tunnels and come up with snow on her nose smiling from the sheer joy of being. She’s shake all over and dive in for another one. Happy dogs, happy giggly children, happy memories – can there be anything better? (Well chocolate, of course, but that goes without saying.)

I was one of the first governors to create a subcabinet to deal specifically with the issue and to recommend common-sense

    There’s that word again…..common-sense.

Has everyone read the piece in Slate about Palin palling around with Nixon insiders?

Did she do any of what she claims?

  26. 26
    OMGNo Gravatar says:

Great Granny…I am so sick of Palin’s “common-sense” everythings! That’s all she ever says and her fans and the MSM eat it up. What the h*** is “common-sense”? It’s her answer for everything as if it defines something. I wish the media would do their job and ask that basic question: “Can you give us a specific example of what that common-sense solution–and I do mean specific.” Of course, they can’t ask the question because she never allows herself to be interviewed. Still the media gives her all the air time and ink that she wants. What happened to responsible journalism in America?

I’ve said it before but I must say it again…I have never seen anything like the free ride that this woman gets from everyone.

On another note, I wrote to Huckabee (after Palin’s slam against him yesterday) and told him to be very wary of Ms. Winky. (I must point out that I do not support Mike Huckabee). He has defended her against her foes up until now, and she has swatted him down just as she’s done to others along the Palin-to-the-top-of-the-hill trail. He’s still very popular with Palin’s base and it wouldn’t hurt if he used his influence to work against her.

I have come to believe that $arah’s frequent use of the term “common sense” is a dog whistle to the rabid right wingers who form her base. Glenn Beck has put forth the ideas of Thomas Paine and has even appeared on his show dressed as Paine.

Published in 1776, Common Sense challenged the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy. The plain language that Paine used spoke to the common people of America and was the first work to openly ask for independence from Great Britain.

I feel very discouraged today. When President Obama was elected, I felt such hope for our country. I felt that we finally had moved beyond the knuckle-dragging embarassment we had become under “W”, and we were moving forward. Then, along comes Palin.

Today, we have a half-term governor who hides behind facebook ghostwriters getting her OpEd in the WaPo, and million dollar book deals. Her book is filled with lies, mis-quotes and mean-spirited attacks, yet we are to believe that she has become a scientist overnight? She can’t form a sentence, or get facts straight in her book, but she is now an expert on climate change?

It seems there are some powerful Washingon insiders (ie: men) who are guiding Palin. I’m discouraged that a woman who is so lacking in basic knowlege is even discussed as a contender for the office of the President of the United States. I guarantee that if Palin wasn’t considered “hot”, she wouldn’t even be a topic of discussion today.

I am discouraged for women everywhere that our country values good looking women over everything else. What message is this sending to the women of America and young girls? It says, women can work their butt off studying, working hard and finishing what they start, but unless you wink and are HOT—they ain’t got nothin’. Ya, we’ve come a long way, baby.

    OMGNo Gravatar says:

trisha…bravo! I feel exactly the same. During the 2008 election, a couple of women started the blog “Women Against Sarah Palin”. They did it by sending a call to action email to every woman they knew and asked them to send it out to all the women they knew. As you probably know, it was wildly successful in getting the word out about why this woman was the wrong woman. I have actually contacted “Women Against Sarah Palin” through their defunct blog in hopes of getting something started again but, alas, they no longer seem to monitor the site.

Your passionate thoughts deserves to be read by women across the country. Coupled with real examples of her lies and real examples of her failings as the governor or Alaska (unemployment, plight of the natives, failed AGIA) could prove to be very powerful. If you send your thoughts to every one you know and request that they send it to every woman they know you never know what might happen. People need to realize that Sarah Palin is a joke but a dangerous joke that is gaining a greater following n American politics.

We can’t just laugh her off as some have suggested. We’ve all been told that her 15 minutes of fame are up. They say that there is no way she could be elected President. But after more than 15 minutes and several million $ later, with her poll approval numbers rising, I’m not laughing and take her very seriously (just as Andrew Sullivan does).

@UK Lady – Great diary on Daily Kos (and civil comments too for a change).

(((trisha))) – It’s really important that we support women who are the exact opposite of $arah Palin.

Speaking personally, I had reservations about Kirsten Gillibrand when she was named to fill Hillary’s seat in the Senate – young, relatively unknown, from gun-totin’, conservative-leanin’ upstate New York. She has been terrific! Probably the only one of Paterson’s decisions I wholeheartedly support. (Poor David)

She has worked tirelessly for seniors and the environment, clean air, clean water, supports health care reform – what a woman! We need a woman like that in every state and every legislature and every local government in the country. A woman with real integrity. Women are, after all, more than 50% of the population and we are pitifully under-represented in government.

Oh, BTW, she has a young family that you never hear about because she knows how to separate her professional life from her personal life. $arah Palin obviously and glaringly does not know the difference.

I do not want my government run like my Tuesday afternoon knitting club, thank you very much.

    lovemydogsNo Gravatar says:

I have been deeply mourning the recent loss of my best furry friend. In spite of this, or perhaps because of it, I have little patience for much of what is going on in the political world right now. I e-mail my senators frequently, particularly concerning the anti-choice ammendments that they are trying to put into the health care bill. And climate change is next on my agenda.

Then I get a phone call from some outfit yesterday ( calling itself HealthCareReform something or other) polling me to see if I agree with the statement “Congress is being reckless with health care”. My response to this bozo was “Sir, I am not sure if I understand your question but I am quite clear on where it is going, so let me say this, I am all for a public option and I really want a single-payer system….does that answer your question???” There is a long pause and then a quick “Yes ma’am” and he hangs up. Do not f*&k with me right now. I am in no mood.

So I go to my doctor’s office to pick up my allergy meds and he hands me this 10 page e-mail entitiled “Scarey” and says “read this”. I start to read it and it begins with the author’s list of credits (military, history professor somewhere, or maybe wrote some books or something–It is always going to be questionable when something starts out by aggrandizing the author). It then proceeds to outline a case for why Obama is the next Hitler, etc, etc. By page 2 I put it down and looked at my doctor and said “Oh come on, you can’t tell me you believe this, give me a break”.

Some background. I like my doctor. He is originally from Columbia and we have had great conversations about the inequalities that exist in Latin American countries.

It took me a little off-guard that he would be repeating this drivel. So I looked at him and said “Haven’t you figured out by now that I am more of a socialist than Obama is? I am all for single-payer health care” (We are both health care providers you see). He says “well the only problem with that is that they will have to ration health care if they do that and then a 75 year old person who is in a car wreck and needs a joint replacement due to a fracture will be told that they are too old”. OMG “you’re kidding me that you actually believe that, right?” I ask. “No, no, it’s true” he says. So I look at him and say “what about the 60 year old who needs a hip replacement NOW and doesn’t have insurance and cannot afford it? That person is living in pain and without hope until they are 65 RIGHT NOW.” That stopped him dead in his tracks. Perhaps he is thinking….or perhaps I will need a new doctor….either way-don’t be spouting right wing BS to me right now because I have no patience for it.

One of my clients, who knows how much I hate SP (yes, I hate her) gave me a copy of her book. She said that she tried to read it but got so bored that she couldn’t make it past page 23. She (for some reason) thought that it would cheer me up or at least make me laugh a little. So I decided to just open it occaisionally (doesn’t matter what page) and see what little nuggets I could glean from it. I have to wash my hands every time.

My thoughts: and I haven’t read more than 2 pages at a time (because that is all that my blood pressure can take). First of all, what is it with the royal “we” that she uses in excess? I know she considers herself the queen bee but… really? Or perhaps she says “we” so she doesn’t ever have to say “I” was responsible for anything. It leaves her open to throw others under the bus.

The other thing that struck me was-if one hasn’t been paying attention to anything other than FauxNews and you don’t care about how vindictive she is (or perhaps you enjoy that in some way)-it almost sounds sane. She makes herself sound pretty good and spouts off all these things that she supposedly did single handedly (all the while using the royal “we”). So, to the uneducated, put-upon, right wing folks, she could very well be their hero.

Our local bookstore (in small-town Alasssska) now has Going Rouge right next to her book. It’s going off the shelf faster than hers. Yea!!! I asked the bookstore owner who the people were who are buying her book. She said mostly older women who fell hook, line and sinker for McCain’s ploy (in other words disgruntled Hillary supporters) and the “Christian” fundamentalists. Sad. I suggested that she steer the disgruntled Hillary supporters to Gloria Steinam’s essay in Going Rouge.

They have the coloring book too. Hilarious!

OK- back to my box of Kleenex.

@OMG #57 – Thanks for the link. It’s good to know that the professionals don’t believe she wrote that article. If she wants to be a serious contender than she should stop hiding behind facebook and ghost writers. Come out and let herself be interviewed and answer questions. IMO she is a coward.
I really believe that William Shatner really spooked her and also too SNL. The only thing she’s good for is comic relief but what’s disturbing is that her followers believe her lies.

#42 OMG-restarting the site would be a good idea. Be nice to have 3 sites going; One for- women against sarah palin, a second for- men against sarah palin and third for-parents of special need children against sarah palin.

SP needs to realize that NOT all women, men (esp) and special need parents find her charming and a good role model. There have been talk about the abusive way she handles Trig and how he is being dressed and exposed.

Finally, all these bloggers with info on SP needs to send them out to other Major newspapers in other cities, states and countries. We can set up a fund to cover the cost to have them run the stories. If she is in multiple states and countries it would be hard for her to grasp all the news and responses. Alot of people still don’t know anything about her because she doesn’t have to speak and answer questions. I never went to her facebook. If she has something to say; she needs to present her self in the flesh. The problem has been that people are so obsessed to have her thoughts that they would take any info from her facebook. Actually, in a court of law, this would not hold her accountable. She can just simply say she didn’t say it or write it. We ALL know she is famous for this. She would blame it on Obama. She wants to be world- wide lets her help with the TRUTH.

Lastly, we really need to start spreading good news and support for our President. They are bringing out the Polls to show if you would of voted for her for President, everyone would be happy. We all suppose to love her. I can’t stand her!

There are enough of us to shut her up. Don’t reply to her facebook and make her confront us. We have the truth. It will win over the lies. Keep her on the defense.

“As governor of Alaska, I took a stand against politicized science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population had more than doubled.”

Palin seems to forget once again the availability of actual facts on the internet. When Alaska (Palin) filed suit against the federal gov’t to remove the polar bear from the ESL, Rick Steiner was able to obtain a copy of Alaska’s polar bear study through a federal FOIA and circumvent the stonewalling he’d been getting in Alaska. Alaska’s own study contradicted Palin’s polar bear population claims, and the state’s case.

Alaska’s background on global warming is not so good, either. Alaskan Republican legislators appropriated $2M to hire scientists to refute the well established scientific agreement that global warming is fueled by human activity in the form of carbon emissions. Their justification was that “scientists are like lawyers.”

A conservative editorial writer for the Dallas Morning News has an interesting few lines about Palin:

” The problem for Palin is that she doesn’t see that there’s anything to be reconciled. The problem for her ardent followers is that they see no reason to question her on anything and reject all criticism of her as made in bad faith. The problem for all of us is that this incoherence is increasingly taken for normal. Palin’s vacuous populism is a crude example of the intellectual corruption tainting public discourse.”

OMG @ 5 – what I really like about the Atlantic article by Armbinder are the comments, especially these two:

    1) Bill Davis December 8, 2009 8:48 PM
The biggest joke here is that Palin didn’t actually write the Op-Ed. The Caribou Queen has the syntax of a five-year old, and is no more capable of constructing a coherent written sentence than a million monkeys are capable of producing a work by Shakespeare. It’s also doubtful she even understands what she “wrote”, or has any firm policy position other than rewarding the abhorrent stupidity of her “followers” for elevating her to Caribou Queen of the United States.

    I disagree:
    a) it WAS badly written, and
    b) she surely asked a friend or neighbour to edit and correct for spelling and punctuation.
It could very well be hers (the ideas are sufficiently facile or uninformed).

    1) At the time Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense, he was a recent (and perhaps illegal) immigrant from Great Britain. I am certain S’error Palin has never read that pamphlet.

    2) What, pray tell, is a “sub-cabinet”?? Is that like… a czar? Or is this yet another bureaucratic piece of big government put into place by someone who claims to be anti-big government?

    3) a deer’s tail is easily distinguishable from the typical dog’s tail. A dog’s tail hangs behind him; a deer’s is usually perpendicular to the backbone.

#64 Claw Washout Palin. It would be great to get something going. Maybe AKM (hint hint) could write one of their masterful pieces that we could all copy and let fly to all our email contacts and ask them to forward on. These little grassroots efforts do have an impact and I say it’s never too late to get a campaign going (just ask Palin…it’s working for her).

That is so sad about the oil spill. The article says it began on the 29th of November. I guess they really can’t keep a pristine environment and transport oil at the same time. How many times over can we afford to prove this? It says this company is still in their probation period from the spill event that occured in 2006. Sheesh! I think I’m going to be sick…

    OMG at #26 – what is “common-sense?”

One of the posts at Wonkette had this gem, which tickled me so much I copied it to my notepad gadget:

“Common Sense” is Latin for “I really don’t have any facts or knowledge on the subject.”

Another gem from Paul Krugman’s blog, regarding the slavering and drooling insanity triggered by any online discussion of climate change/global warming [you've all seen this on our local newspaper blogs, for instance]:

“The rage, by the way, is amazing. Nothing gets me as many crazed emails and comments as any reference to climate change. The anti-global-warming people are just filled with hate for anyone who suggests that maybe, just maybe, the vast majority of scientists are right.”

Is Palin positioning herself as the head on the festering boil of the irrational in our country?
Let’s all contemplate that video of her fans in line for the book signing, wherein not one of them could make a coherent statement about any policy at all. Yeah, damn straight I’m scared!

$arah says that she should be elected because she has common sense. She can look out the window and see the sun is still there in the sky, so everything is okay. Science is not common sense because the common people aren’t in the loop, only the elite and highly educated. Believe what you can see and only get worried if you personally can’t breathe the air or don’t have enough to eat. The other stuff is just baloney.

Except…. she believes in witches, the devil and a host of other things put forth by her church. How does that match up with her “common sense”? Has she ever seen the devil? Has anyone who she thought was a witch ever performed a visible act that can be verified?

Yea. $arah is as dumb as a post.
