Sarah Palin’s Book Signing at Elmendorf AFB in Alaska (PHOTOS)

I got some pictures back from those who attended Sarah Palin’s book signing today at Elmendorf Air Force Base.  I had to work today and was unable to attend the event…but between you and me, it didn’t break my heart all that much.

The word back is:  Todd-less, ring-less, and virtually minority-less.

This officially ends the book tour, but according to Palin’s own tweet, there will be a public event in Alaska “later.”

Here are a couple shots from Mudflatter Rishi Maharaj who attended.

I see we’re wearing the same crushed-velvet jacket we wore at Walter Reed…and that Piper is now wearing the green cap. (Why does the word “brat” always come to my mind when I think of ‘Perky’ Piper?)

The Snow Queen, I do believe, is in SEVERE competition with her daughters ~ everything and anything she can do to ‘look’ young and appear as if she has a clue, she will. Sadly, she can’t (or won’t) see what the sane world sees: she is no longer as young as she once was and she is *certainly* not in touch with reality…

Willow, on the other hand, could be Scarah’s “Dorian Gray” ~ she looks like a middle-aged matron in the photo. How sad. beth.

We need to cut the kids a little slack. No matter what, SP is their mom and they’ll defend her, even if they think she’s wrong. Even if they’re teenagers. They’ll only complain to their friends about things she does that bug them–the normal stuff like curfews and not liking boyfriends and needing to do homework. No kid wants to hear their parents put down.
It’s like us. We know this country has problems and we complain about them. But have someone from another country complain about the same things and most of us are up in arms.

I feel sorry for Piper. She looks miserable (and also very cute).

AKM, I hope you and all of the AK bloggers can make it to the “Public Book Event” if it happens. I would love to see what happens. I just posted my sentiments on the last thread so won’t repeat, but to say the least I am so happy this crazy tour is now over.

    So what is next?

    R'ipley in CTNo Gravatar says:

Man, Willow looks about as disinterested as I have ever seen a teenager.. and I’ve seen my share, believe me. I feel sorry for her. Willow, that is. She’s old enough to make her own choices to attend, no doubt, but young enough to be forced to comply with parental authority. I’m sure she would have chosen to stay home, wherever that may be these days. But no, her mother has to drag her along as a prop. Like Piper. But Piper is just tired of it all. What a mess she’s put her children through. Glad not to see Trig.

*sigh* Will someone put us out of her misery?

is she now going on hiatus from show-biz to spend the holiday with her broken family? …or is she just going to re-load!

Willow sure looks very “native” in that pic, also, too, she don’t look none too happy. Gramps looks like he swallowed the canary (pervish), to me anyways. Thank God it is over, but I fear it’s not the last we’ve heard from this Ice Queen.

    Thanks Dennis, nice pictures.

I think Scarah deliberly wants to be seen wearing the same clothes to get away from the image that she recieved clothes from the campaign. How else could she shed that image other than being seen wearing the same clothes . Don’t be surprised if we see her in that cap again because it probably makes her feel like she is glamorous and it gets her a lot of attention. She will probably will come out with caps identical to the one she worn earlier but in different colors.
We do need to make sure we cut the kids some slack because they don’t want to her their mother put down.
It is interesting that she isn’t wearing her wedding ring. Although seeing how Scarah likes to put up a false facade, wouldn’t she still wear the wedding ring even if the marriage was (has) gone south. She may not be wearing her ring because of swelling of her hands from signing her books. But, hasn’t she been seen not wearing her wedding ring before this?

I don't know why folks would want to have photos made with the extended family...vicarious glory, or something? Kind of like my sister-in-law's mother went to school with Julia Childs so that makes me important because I have a photo of me with my sil's mom? Saints preserve us! beth]]

Great pics! Thanks for posting them AKM.
Got to admit, kids will just be bored at most events like this, especially if they have done them repeatedly. That is really normal and I’m sure they would rather be either home or with friends and family rather than at some dumb book signing, even if it’s their mom.
Now I’ve thought about it, I’ve never seen kids on a adult book tour by other authors before.
    Has anyone else?

Pacos_gal…not only have I never seen kids on the book tour thingy, I’ve never seen the press hooplah, extended family members, and the security. You are right about the kids just being normal. I really don’t like commenting about them other than to express sympathy and have hopes that they are ok.

Another thing I thought of is usually authors who go on tour usually go on C-Span to discuss and take questions on their book. We watch it all the time here and I’m betting she won’t be showing up there. Where is C-Span on this “Huge, best-selling” “book”?

I have had the greatest good luck to have had quite a few chances to have books signed by their author. This is the first instance of an author having family members co-sign books that said family member did not co-author. And, this is the first time that an author has been given a platform to forward a belief system when said author exits a mode of transportation.

Isn’t it something — the way her two elder daughters have sadly unflattering plain-Jane hairdos, while Sarah has these elaborately teased and extended/augmented concoctions. Does she travel with a stylist? How much time does it take every morning to get her hair in place?

Snowlady, ADN had an article on her signing at the two bases with no public allowed a few days ago – no comments allowed. I commented on the Letters to the Editor in response to someone else who criticized ADN on the letter’s policy. The trolls were out, so I asked why ADN didn’t allow comments on the no public allowed story, and merely asked what $P was afraid of, was this her idea of helping Alaska by avoiding Alaskans by slinking in and out of the state and refusing to meet other Alaskans, etc. The comment disappeared quicker than you could say Jack Frost and all that were left were troll comments, completely ignoring the $arah subject.

I read somewhere that they were going to strictly enforce the no-public restriction until they got so many complaints from the military who had friends and family who wanted to attend. Then they limited it to guests. Seems others slipped in. :) Thanks Rishi & Dennis! Great pictures!

Face of the Day and the remix is just tooooo funny! i think the woman wearing the shirt must think she resembles Palin. Yuck!

Disappointed that Elmendorf decided to let others onto the base, but those are the ones who probably boosted the attendance. I still would like to hear that the guy who shouted at the young girl with the Obama shirt got an earful himself.

Piper had the whole hair/make-up routine done for Barbara Walters and Oprah, so it’s probably continuing. Any young girls of her age bracket would quickly take to that sort of thing if allowed/encouraged. Sarah is going to rue the day that she’s pushing that child to be an adult and *in your face*. It was disappointing to see her right in there signing posters with her mother way back during the campaign.

    mae lewisNo Gravatar says:

For those of you who asked if it’s normal for the family to come along to the author’s book signing, I’ll answer in terms of a member of our family who is an author and does book signings.

I should also mention that some time ago, he followed an author selected by the publisher for the first rate paid for book tour, something that is done now for only a few authors who are really expected to hit it big. The book tour that he followed was for an article about how publishers promote books, in fact, what goes into selecting those few special books. The tour involved interviews on morning and afternoon local news shows, with book signings squeezed in. (Yes, every TV show interviewer asks the same questions). It was often several stops in a day, tightly programmed by the publisher. Very few authors get this kind of treatment, too expensive today. (The book that he followed and the author did not meet publisher’s expectations, and you’ve never heard of them).

As for his books, they have local interest, so he has done most of his appearances and signings in local bookstores. There isn’t much cost in transportation. The only cost is shipping a carton of books to the location ahead of time (on the part of the publisher). He never brought wife or children along. When Sarah’s tour started, I asked him if his parents came along a la Heath. (They live nearby). He admitted that sometimes they did, standing in the back of the room, filled with admiration, love and pride in his achievement. His father is the family hero, visiting local book stores and placing his son’s books on the best seller table in the front of the store, whether the store wants it there or not. He keeps those books front and center!

The books are non-fiction, and he has appeared on TV as an authority on the subject of his books. No, the family does not accompany him to the studio, as the Palin family appears to have done when Sarah appeared on Conan’s show last week.

To be serious for a minute, we shouldn’t look at the Sarah Palin-palooza as a standard book tour. She is not an author; she is aiming for celebrity with political opinions. The bus reeked of political campaign. The traveling family circus is not normal for book tours; this was something else- maybe an out-of-town tryout for Sarah, maybe to test political waters, and of course, to make money and keep Sarah in the headlines. If anyone is looking at the whole thing with sheer admiration, it would be P.T.Barnum.

Good thing nothing happened on base that required military police. I think everyone of them was over at the Exchange including the Squadron Commander for the Air Force MP’s. You would have thought someone important was there not a loser and a quitter. Spoke with some people there and one comment I got was that she had on more make up than a crack head. That was extremely insulting…. to the crack head. And yes, the crowd was as white as the trees in my yard right now from the frost. Heard one guy get asked if he was there to see Sarah, and he replied, a little loudly for effect I think, that no, he had a life and had better things to do like go home and clean his bathroom. Ouch.

    @51 kejia

Sarah Palin is not knitting or washing dishes or doing anything that would preclude her from wearing a ring or bracelet for that matter.

I’ve remarked in the past that her hands look OLD. The hands can really reflect the age of a woman. Elasticity is lost, tendons bulge and age spots appear. As she is 45, she is probably in peri-menopause. That can start about 15 years before actual menopause which is at the average age of 51 for most women. She’s not that far off. I think, for a rapidly aging vain woman, looking into the mirror each morning must be a horror.

Personally, I admire women who allow the beauty of their lives to be reflected in their faces. Which is not to say I personally don’t fight gravity on a daily basis, but I’m not ashamed of my laugh lines either! I’m not a giddy young woman any more and have no desire to be in competition with my beautiful daughters. Youth, in my opinion, does not trump intelligence.

I just finished reading Sarah Palin’s book, “Going Rogue.” Those critical of it are wrong. After all the garbage that has been said about her it was refreshing to hear her perspective on everything. Those people who hate her will never change their minds. However, this book is a must-read for Alaskans with open minds who have questioned some of her decisions. You will then understand why she did what she did, every step of the way. She saves the best for last in her final chapter, The Way Forward. She gives all Americans hope for the future. While she doesn’t say it, to me there is no doubt she will run for president in 2012. America will be lucky to have her, and all Alaskans should be proud.

I don’t agree with her politically but face it she seems lovely and is gorgeous. I just think the hate Sarah stuff is a bit over board. Challenge her if she wants to be a politic but disliking her because we made her a big celebrity might be our own doing. Kind of like Jessica Simpson… maybe even Jenny on the Block

Lynne Vincent can’t talk about her part in Rogue, but has anyone read other writings by her? I’d like an idea how much of the intricate detail woven into parts of Rogue, such as inaccurate weather descriptions, came directly from Sarah or if Vincent embroidered to give “color”. Probably at some point Vincent will be blamed for sloppy reporting- this would be more believable if the other book she did was inaccurate also. How many times is God invoked?

Or conversely, what things did SP tell her that got “left on the floor”?

Maybe instead of feeling ill when we see that dog and pony show she has been involved in, we can surround her (and ourselves) with love, as real Christians do, and lead her away from the advocacy of defence spending, hate speech, attacking other people and their families and putting our own loved ones on the altar of blood sacrifice for the sake of the corporations. She’s got the celebrity thing going there, but it seems a misuse of what she says she stands for…and I , one of many, am disappointed at the lost opportunity to do some real good.

Juat sayin’: I agree that this is the waste of a talented person. It’s sort of like the stories you read of elaborate hoaxes and crimes by an intelligent person. I often wish the hoaxer had spent some of that energy on a real job. SP is very good at making people think they are very special to her. Can you remember the video when she was on the Franklin fly-in with cookies. (I can’t remember his name, Nick?) the old man engaged her in conversation, and she seemed sincere. As soon as he questioned her, she immediately turned to someone else who was fawning. This book signing is an excellent use of her 5 second connection.

I don’t think she would know if we surrounded her with love. She seems to recognize only adoration.

Renee @ 65: Yes, Sarah is pleasing to look at. Looks, alone, though, do NOT a good, moral, and/or ethical person make. And looks, alone, certainly do NOT an intelligent person make, either.

People go on and on about this and that about her ~ negative and/or positive; that is their prerogative. MY overriding concern about her and everything she stands for, is her [absolute, verbalized, and demonstrated] “world view.”

When it comes right down to it, the fame, the notoriety, the adulation she engenders (and encourages with her every action) is all specifically designed to promote the “world view” of her religious sect. Her sole aim is to get to the ‘big people’s table’ …once she does, once she has grabbed power, she can (and will!), guarandamnteed, enforce her way, as taught by her sect, on us all.

I think we’ve all gotten ‘distracted’ over the past year, by the statements she’s made, the things she ‘s done, and in our trying to figure out what her next ‘move’ will be. (I’ll give her that: she is predictably unpredictable.)

The thing of it is, though, in our ‘distraction,’ we tend to forget the very CORE of the woman. We tend to forget what her driving force is. At her core, at the very center of ALL she does, is a quest for glory DRIVEN BY her ‘religious’ beliefs. She believes she is ‘ordained’ by G_d to carry out His mission and she will do ANYTHING to fulfill what she believes she has been ‘called’ to do…and she’ll do it without [thanks to Rev. M. for that laying-on-of-hands] witchcraft hampering her.

IF she did not have the looks she does, if she was overweight, had acne scars, had a great overbite, was frumpy, was abnormally tall or short, and/or etc. ~ if she looked any way other than she does, no one would give her a second thought. She’d be relegated to the heap of snakeoil salesmen who are dismissed as nutjobs right out of the starting gate. It is only because she is ‘pretty’, that people have not done so with her ~ that they keep listening in hopes her words (and/or intellect) will match her looks. People want her ‘message’ to be as pretty as she is. Minor problem…

Her ‘message’, at the CORE, is the same as that of any died-in-the-wool ‘religious fanatic’ though. Her ‘pretty’ has blinded otherwise sane and rational people into ignoring that basic fact…instead, the ‘debate’ rages over whether she is or isn’t doing this or that, if she did or didn’t say this or that.

Think about it: Jim Jones and David Koresh were both handsome men. Billy Graham was quite the ‘looker’ in his day, too. They [and others] were ALSO snakeoil salesmen who were pushing their “world view”…to the GREAT detriment of the people they conned with their charm and good looks. Sarah is NO different…it is just that she has amassed a much wider audience in a much shorter span of time than did the others. She, too, like those men did, gotten people to stop ‘looking behind the curtain’ to see what is truly driving her onward [the "world view" of her 'religion'] ~ that is great for her, not so great for everyone else.

That she has somehow managed to get otherwise sane and rational people to react to her latest moves/actions/words RATHER than have them constantly and relentlessly expose her driving force, her core, makes her ‘job’ that much easier. It is, however, incredibly dangerous for anyone who is not her or who does not have the same “world view” as she does.

Next time you are with a group (or even one} Palinbot, ask them, all casual like, if they believe in witchcraft. Dollars to donuts, they’ll look at you as if you’ve lost your mind: “Who would believe in that clap-trap mumbo-jumbo?” they’ll ask. Just for giggles, then tell them about Sarah and her ‘church.’ Expose her -to them- over the very thing that they think they have in common with her: religion. You’ll, trust me, be amazed at their reaction. They, too, find that piece of Sarah to be beyond the pale.

It’s just that everyone is so distracted by the ‘glitz’ that they haven’t a clue about (and/or aren’t being exposed to) what is behind it. In short, Sarah Palin might be pretty to look at and might be as charming as all get out, but she is a dangerous, dangerous, dangerous woman. beth.

Sandra, that was tribal elder Nick Tucker. The video is still up at YouTube–you can just see $P’s face freeze when Tucker dares ask a question, in his courtly way…

KateinCanada asks, “Lynne Vincent can’t talk about her part in Rogue, but has anyone read other writings by her?”

Oh my yes. I bought (for a dollar plus shipping) her most recent book, “Donkey Cons,” about how the Democrat [sic] Party is and always has been chock full o’ perverts ‘n corruption. Her co-author on this toxic little volume is Robert Stacy McCain, a white supremacist who recently was booted from the Washington Times [the Moonie paper] for being… too over-the-top. RSM is the one who threatened Audrey of http://www.palindeceptions.com. She and her husband retained legal counsel, and she stopped new posts in August, but all of her previous posts are still available.

And RSM BRAGGED about this on his blog! BreePalin estimates that this threatening (as well as $P, through Von Flein, hassling Gryphen of TheImmoralMinority, and Shannyn Moore) occurred last summer while $P was holed up in San Diego with Vincent. I could just picture a swollen, discolored, post-plastic surgery $P whacked out on Vicodin and Red Bull, fantasizing away while LV pounded the keyboard, and threatening bloggers with legal action… that somehow never was followed through. Truth is a complete defense in libel cases for a public figure, as I learned when studying New York Times v. Sullivan.

I agree that when the discourse degenerates into emotional reaction and name calling, I want to distance myself. She is what she is, and, as I see it, those who disagree with her activities (which I do, very much) would serve their opposition purpose better by objective observation than by simple derogatory comment.

    Just a few thoughts here.
Yes if Ms Sarah had been homely, etc. she would have not attracted the attention of the “Viagra Base white old man GOP.” But why does ANY woman in the USA find her the least bit interesting? I contend that her female “base” consists of those poor, desperate females who would do anything to be “popular,” as if “popularity” mattered. Those of us who have smarts and confidence don’t give her the time of day. Just look at the sad female souls who attend her book signings! Women with no intelligence, no sense of fashion and limited access to low calorie food!!
I do not live in a cosmopolitan area. In fact, I live in a really redneck area. However, only the lowest of the low-lifers would dress the way she has done (and her parents have done – what’s with the flood pants and ugly sneakers?) during this book signing tour. If one wants to be considered a serious national contender then dress the part and have your entourage dress the part! Obviously, this is why the RNC had to spend so much $$ on her VP wardrobe.
My heart aches for the children of this family!

sandra in oregon, “Nick” is Nickolas Tucker, Sr. village elder from Emmonak, Alaska and the courageous leader who publicized the plight of villagers last winter in the Lower Yukon and Kuskokwim who were forced to choose between food and fuel. This was a crisis which Governor Palin was warned about the summer before but which she chose to ignore. Palin even waited weeks before her highly publicized visit to the villages (bearing a plate of cookies.)

Then-Governor Palin’s disdain and disrespect for Nickolas Tucker, captured on video, is, for me, disgusting, and evidences Palin’s bone-chilling callousness and arrogance as well as her utter unfitness for any sort of public office.
