Open Thread – Twelve Days of Christmas (Day 2)

It’s Day 2 on our 12 Days of Christmas (the Palin version). The carollers are ready to go. And interestingly, their melodious voices rising in the chilly air over our virtual Mudflats Town Square have called out some unexpected guests! Amid the revelers have emerged several Christmas trolls! Can you believe it? Fortunately they are all in the backstage area, squirming about and making troll sounds. I’m saving up their comments to do a New Year’s Mail Bag. It should be great fun. But in the meantime, let’s get back to the business at hand!

    Hey all,

I’m curious, any Alaskan detectives out there?.

Palin tweeted this on 11th Dec.

Packing up 4 return 2 Alaska in time 4 kids’ dance recital&bball game + 2 great book events @Elmendorf/Eielson!Its been a great trip Outside
9:27 AM Dec 11th from TwitterBerry

It would seem that she flew in to Alaska, but then flew right out again to Hawaii.

What dates are the kids dance and bball games?, will she miss them?, must be something up if so.

    Hi all,
If you are having trouble with late Christmas gifts I have a suggestion. Go to http://www.savebiogems.org/giftsfromthewild/index.html

You can help save a rainforest by purchasing a tree (for $10) to replant a rainforest or help to save wolves or polar bears, etc. Your gift recipient receives an e-card and a beautiful downloadable certificate to acknowledge their role and yours in an environmental movement. And it’s tax deductible!

You can also give this gift in the honor of someone you have lost.

    On this website:
    http://www.nichd.nih.gov/publications/pubs/downsyndrome.cfm#Infantsand

    …there is this important excerpt:
“pneumonia Compared to the general population, individuals with Down syndrome have a 12-fold higher mortality rate from infectious diseases, if these infections are left untreated and unmonitored. These infections are due to abnormalities in their immune systems, usually the t-cell and antibody-mediated immunity functions that fight off infections. Children with Down syndrome are also more likely to develop chronic respiratory infections, middle ear infections, and recurrent tonsillitis. In addition, there is a 62-fold higher incidence of pneumonia in children with Down syndrome than in the general population.”

Anyone watch the TV show, LIe To Me, last night. It’s about crime solvers who read the subtle (and not so subtle) facial expressions, twitches, eye movements, ect. (that people can’t control) to determine if they are telling the truth. It’s a drama, but people like this exist. I always thought it would be interesting to have someone with this ability “read” Palin’s face when she is talking about Trig…or anything else.

Last night, they used a photo of Palin’s face in a scene where they were showing what “Contempt” looked like. It was a photo of her with her jaw sticking out and her mouth really turned down. It was hilarous.

I can’t remember what was going on when that photo was taken, but you would all recognize the photo they used. They were loosely talking about deception at the time too.

    Anyway, pretty funny.

Ya know, Joseph and Mary practiced abstinence, but doggone it, she got knocked up anyway and Mary was in Galilee talking to that group of Roman governors and her water broke and Joseph said we can’t have no fishpicker born in Galilee so they grabbed a donkey at the local kibbutz and started out across the desert and they passed up Nazareth and went by Jerusalem where there were all sorts of nice and modern inns and finally made it to Bethlehem but gosh darn it all the hotels were full so they ended up in a barn where they had an iconic little baby and they didn’t have any money but Mary had already started the Israelite Trust Fund and lo and behold three kings showed up and gave her all their hard earned money and Joseph and Mary lived happily ever after but not so much the little baby also too. She also took off from her hotel after arranging for a last-minute hair appointment without paying the hairdresser and leaving her to cover her own valet parking”……..

    http://www.sltrib.com/columnists/ci_14003093

It goes on to say that she was told not to speak to Palin unless Palin spoke to her first. OMG, what a diva. They did say for the hairdresser to send the bill, but she had to track down someone to pay her.

    No tomatoes? At Costco?

As she was leaving, she noticed a man with a store manager’s name tag and asked him why they had no tomatoes. He informed her the store did have tomatoes, but they were taken off the shelves for a few hours.

It turns out that Palin had been pelted with a tomato at an earlier stop on her book tour and the management at the Costco was determined it wouldn’t happen here.

The manager told an employee to go into the storage area and get Rappaport some tomatoes, which he gave her for free

Whoa! I just got robbed tonight. Literally !

While I was catching up on Muflats and my emails someone came running up on to my porch and started pounding on the door. I opened the inside door but kept the outside door locked. A large burly guy was out there and launched in to a story about his wife in the hospital and their baby needing Similac and that they lived a few doors down the street and wondering if I could lend him a few dollars for formula.

I knew for sure he was lying, I saw the car w/ driver waiting for him at the curb with another male at the wheel. I decided it would be better to play along and told him “sure, I can help you out. hold on” . I grabbed a handful of bucks that I could NOT afford to lose but figured it was the safest decision and handed it to him through a crack in the door, and saying, “hope your wife is ok! good luck!” As I was re-locking the door he was insisting he needed more. I apologized saying it was all I had. I then went ahead and finished locking the big inside door.

He ran down the porch steps and jumped in to the waiting car. I called the police and I am happy to say there were here in less than 10 minutes. They told me that this guy has been going around all night but in a vehicle different than the one I described. And, off they went to look for him.

I lost Christmas shopping money but am over the moon to be safe in my home. I’m left in the middle of laughing and crying but mostly , it’s laughing and being really thankful.
