But Franken knew that many Americans were getting po’d at Joe L., and he echoed our sentiments. In other words — Joe, shut up – we’ve heard enough from you.
Joe needs to shut up and go away. Even if he needs some help in getting there. Key Dems can help that happen.
And in regard to healthcare reform —
I think now we need to look more realistically at *insurance* reform first, and then work toward total healthcare reform. Obviously the lobbies and corporate interests are going to push this to the Nth degree, and right now it looks like they’ll reap the rewards. The major unions don’t like the present proposals either. Get the regs in place first for insurance, and then work on covering all Americans. Baby steps, maybe.
Barack, don’t give in to the corporations and lobbyists. Remember who elected you!
I totally agree with what you say. I’m in a deep funk about what the insurance companies may be getting away with, and how the Repubs and the likes of SP will claim victory. Hooray for Al Franken, also, too!

Roy Sekoff of HuffPost was on Joy Behar’s show and made this statement regarding Palin’s trip to Hawaii. The last line is probably right on the money regarding Palin’s attitude towards the natives.
“Here’s the beautiful thing, Joy. Remember, she’s in Hawaii. Last week, her father said that she went to school for one semester then she left, because she wasn’t comfortable with all the Asians and Pacific Islanders… so now, she’s back in Hawaii. Maybe she feels more comfortable when they’re serving her at a luxury hotel.”
Palin tweets that she’ll run in a Thanksgiving race then quits to avoid the crowds that she created….
Palin lets the world know that she’ll be vacationing in Hawaii then quits her holiday when she is recognized and photographed (even after her lame and fake “incognito” visor debacle)…. Isn’t this the second Hawaiian vacation that she bailed on?
I can only imagine the disappointment suffered by her kids in having to leave their island paradise vacation early—I’m sure they’re all hoping that they can sit quietly for hours while looking adoringly at their mother in a Costco somewhere, watching as she signs books.
Palin, once again, proves that she is a tough talking, weak individual that can dish it but can’t take the heat. She wants celebrity but doesn’t accept the responsibility nor the consequences. She is a shameful fraud that deserves all the ill will she gets. I can only hope that she takes a good look in the mirror someday and realizes that her grab for stardom will have long lasting impact on the innocents in her family–I can only hope that she actually cares.

I have known several “drama queens” in my life. They make choices that create drama because they are addicted to the drama. It’s a way to get sympathy, it’s a way to blame others, it’s a way to get attention……all like Sarah.
She made the choice to go to busy Waikiki Beach instead of a private resort. That is the busiest beach of all the Islands. Of course she wanted to get notices.
She did it hoping for publicity shots of her kissing her baby and hangin out with Todd, but she quickly found out that she couldn’t control the message and the images being released.
The hat and t-shirt choices are examples of her poor thinkin’ skills.
Wow, she looks 55-60 in some of those Hawaii shots. Normally, I wouldn’t comment on the effects of aging, being in that age range, but since the Queen of Mean has always gotten by solely on looks, and has never shown a bit of mercy for anyone else, I must point out that she looks like heck- sorry Sarah.
Sarah Palin’s addiction to the limelight is only highlighted by the fact that she needed to alert Politico about her change in vacation plans. Most people who are desperate for privacy do not tell people where they are spending their holidays, do not let them know when they plan to travel and don’t alert them as to any changes in their schedule. Palin, either through her FB, Twitter or direct contact with friendly media chases the spotlight.
I’ve known people who have made names for themselves in film and in politics; people who have lived ordinary (well almost) lives because they guard their privacy. Their professional lives are just that; their family lives are separate and protected.
Palin can spin that the media is out to get her until she is dizzy, but she is victimized by only one person and that person stares at her daily from her very own mirror.
I’m sure that many others (like millions) also received a Christmas card from the White House (well, actually the DNC – sure beats all those fund raising requests they send), but it was nice to receive and the return address is the White House. Never received anything before with the presidental seal on it. GWB never sent me one.
The “Star-Bulletin” reports she left Maui this morning.
She was on Maui at Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Almost as busy as Waikiki. In some of the pic you can see the tan and green trim of the hotel. It’s a kind of unusual color combo. She wanted to be seen and she was to cheap to go to a more exclusive area like Lanai or one of the resorts on the Big Island that caters to celebrities. In Hawaii all beaches are public so you can’t keep people off the beach but in some places the paps have to land by boat since public access is not available.

As many have observed, “celebrities” are in Hawaii every day of the year, and if they want privacy they select where they stay accordingly. If they want to be seen and photographed they go to Waikiki or Kaanapali, the most busy public areas in the islands, and make sure the press is aware of their location.
As others have said, going to Kaanapali beach is like saying, “hey everybody, I’m here.” There are many exclusive resorts on Maui if you truly want privacy. As a mother, I can not fathom what she thinks she’s doing to her children (unless Piper hates playing on the beach). First she gets everyone excited with the trip…then she yanks it away. I know my children would have been upset and not at all keen to hop back on a plane for a long flight home after only two days.
Like others who have already written, I do not understand why she didn’t just move to another hotel and not tell anyone where she was going. Hawaii is host to celebrities that manage to have wonderful, private holidays all year long; celebrities that shun the cameras and manage their moments of privacy.
But I guess I really do understand…it was another Palin publicity stunt at the expense of her family. How totally disgustingly sad.

You’ll note there haven’t been any typical airport photos of princess winky and her brood. returning to wasilly. We recently visited the Caribbean and even having darker skin than the spooks from wasilly if you weren’t careful the first few days you could get some serious damage from the sun in a mere 1-2 hours. She better keep those kids hidden. Letting your kids get severely sun burned is abusive & DHS wouldn’t look kindly upon such neglect.

Regarding Palin’s hospital fundraiser in Canada. I thought I read a post here earlier (or on the last open thread) that it had been changed from a fundraiser for the hospital to a fundraiser for some children’s charity. Did the can that idea too?

There’s something fishy about this Canadian speech situation. I don’t think she’s been ‘fired’ from anything. I think she’s still giving a speech in Canada, but the fundraising charity for the speech has been changed. That seems really suspicious to me, especially since the ticket prices and number of tickets available seem to suggest that the money raised would only cover the cost Palin charges to speak. Didn’t seem like any money could possibly be raised. What’s really going on? Sounds like a set-up. Like someone decided Palin needed to up her political resume with more speeches outside the U.S. and arranged for a an event, any event, to be scheduled. There’s more to this story, trust me. Why would they say she is not speaking to raise money for the hospital, but oops, we’ll still have her speak, only now for a children’s charity?
Who are the people behind the event — that’s what I want to know. From what I’ve read, it’s not the hospital. What kind of a fundraiser decides that the charity he/she raises money for doesn’t really matter, what matters is getting Palin to speak and paying her $200,000 for doing so?
Canadians: Time to speak out against having her raise money for a children’s charity. Speakers are supposed to have an understanding of their subject, and she doesn’t have any about this! Just ask the villages, the people getting federal aid for health care in Alaska, and any and all groups in Alaska working with children with special needs. What attention has she ever paid them? Has she even volunteered at Special Olympics? Get out!
On her looks. I would never disparage another–the above is about her record–as I try very hard to follow the golden rule. However, if I were Sarah, and said what she did in Going Rogue about the divorce rumors and Todd’s looks, I’d be really worried right now. If your marriage is based on physical attractiveness, any woman in her late 40′s has reason to keep her husband well away from beaches in SoCal, Florida, and, yes, Hawaii. There’s just too much competition.
Also about the Canadian speech — let’s not forget that this will be seen as some kind of perverse victory by Palin’s bots. They didn’t like the idea of her doing a fundraiser for a Canadian ‘socialist’ hospital, one with ‘death panels,’ and one that performed abortions. They’ll be thrilled that she’s given a speech for a children’s charity instead. Although, as I’ve pointed out above, I don’t think the ‘fundraising’ speech was ever about anything except Sarah.

I also have been disturbed through the years, at the extremely high dollar amount spent to decorate the White House. I enjoy watching simply to see the talent and logistics that going into decorating the “peoples’ house”, but I wish it didn’t cost so much, particularly during this period of recession. However, as another mentioned, if the Obamas were to not decorate to a similar degree as in the past, they’d be damned as unChristian, etc.

Was just over at Immoral Minority and the comments on the thread about the Canadian speech are illuminating. Seems Palin has hooked up with some Canadian grifters. The speech she’s giving is at some banquet hall. They are organizing the event, and paying Palin $200,000. The hall is part-owner of a charity group that raises money and distributes it to other charities, after expenses. What do you want to bet that their ‘expenses’ are extraordinarily high? It’s not about charity, it’s about business. That’s why they don’t care where the money goes. They don’t even care if they barely break even. It’s more about publicity for them. Gee, I didn’t know Palin had relatives in Canada, but they sure sound like Palins to me!

The Palin love fest was in my town a couple of weeks ago. People braved the single digit temperatures just to get 15 seconds with her. They were all gushing about what a great person she is and how she has common sense. There was one article in a paper saying that one woman tore off the top of her McCain/ Palin sticker because she really voted for Palin and not McCain. I’m not sure where they think she has common sense. Especially if she is supposed to be a hockey mom or whatever. What hockey mom takes her kids out of school for weeks or months at a time? What mom takes her kids on a cross country trip during flu and cold season without providing jackets and socks? What mom doesn’t provide therapy and necessary aids for her special needs child? I don’t get how some women can’t see through her act. Maybe they have been watching too many soap operas?? No offense to those that do watch soap operas. She just reminds me of the popular girl in school who pretends to be your best friend while she is scheming to destroy you. All with a smile on her face.

I’ve worked in the nonprofit world for a long time and live near Santa Barbara, CA where there are lots of Hollywood types and lots of fundraisers…
Most often, they (the Hollywood types, not the fundraisers ) don’t charge to show up for an event like this, and most often they are really particular about what events they support in this way. As you can imagine, they get asked a lot, particularly if it’s obvious that they’re willing to be supportive.
Sometimes they will offer to do an event at a reduced fee if the charity isn’t near and dear to their hearts, and sometimes they’ll ask the full shebang rather than say no if they’re feeling like they’ve been asked too often.
So Sarah continues to be classy…would be interesting to know what the percentages were at this little extravaganza…
I wish the news outlets (HP) would also cover some Congressman/women as ‘entertainment’ or ‘celebrity’…the ones that pound their fist and lecture to the camera in an empty senate/house chamber…it’s called ‘acting’…those who ‘act’ (or pray) in lieu of actual work should be FIRED!!! we’re on to you and you know who you are! (mccain, bachmann, grassley, boehner, nelson, lieberman, mcconnell, demint) …too many to mention, but you know who grabs the headlines any way they can…the ones who want to make a name for themselves (celebrities), the ones who wish to be famous (infamous).
I saw my very first mudpuppy in person today. It was very exciting; we had a lovely conversation. Mudpuppies in Oregon are comparatively thin on the ground, this one had temporarily migrated up from California, so I was especially fortunate to see her. Hey, Kyra!

The more I think about the image and the ‘saying’ on the shirt, the more I’m convinced that the shirt’s message is not directed at/to people who are disgruntled with the USA, but is rather a statement of their feelings about the direction the US is headed and about the direction towards which SP and Mr. Sarah are, again, leaning/heading.
SP and Mr. Sarah are saying –via the shirt– the USA isn’t functioning the way [they think] it should be [hence an image of an old ratty flag instead of a proudly flying 'whole' Old Glory worthy of defending], and the only ‘choice’ they have, therefore, it to “get the hell out!”
The overall message is not ‘aimed’ at anyone; it’s a declaration, to everyone, from them.
It’s proclaiming loudly their intent: to work [rejoin] with Mr. Sarah’s political affiliation that the McC campaign was so quick to dismiss as “marked the wrong box by mistake” (or some such lame garbage.)
The Alaskan Independence Party/Separatist Party/Third Party is where the two are headed – I betcha. And they’re counting on taking all her adoring base with them…which, by the looks of the base’s loyalty to her despite reality and sanity checks, shouldn’t be too hard. They [the base] are in love with the image she’s created, not (obviously) with the intelligence and/or ability of the woman. They’re putty in her hands.
So, in one fell swoop, SP (and Mr. Sarah) on the beach in HI got ‘rid’ of the GOP (thanks to the sharpie) and showed where their future intentions/hearts lie {and, yes, “lie” may be read in both meanings of the word.}
Oh, yeah, she’s a most clever one, little Ms SP is… she’s got her base defending her HI ‘ensemble’ and has thereby introduced them to the idea of an ‘alternative’ to the status quo… She’ll slowly and surely keep it up, they’ll lovingly keep lapping it up, and BINGO, she’s be all set for a run for the WH as an independent/separatist/maverick in ’12.
And thus endeth -for the moment- my armchair psychiatric evaluation/dissection of SPs (and Mr. Sarah’s) true motives for the attire in HI. beth. (who is not a psychiatrist and who doesn’t even play one on TV.)

I think now we need to look more realistically at *insurance* reform first, and then work toward total healthcare reform. Obviously the lobbies and corporate interests are going to push this to the Nth degree, and right now it looks like they’ll reap the rewards. The major unions don’t like the present proposals either. Get the regs in place first for insurance, and then work on covering all Americans. Baby steps, maybe.
Barack, don’t give in to the corporations and lobbyists. Remember who elected you!

I can only imagine the disappointment suffered by her kids in having to leave their island paradise vacation early—I’m sure they’re all hoping that they can sit quietly for hours while looking adoringly at their mother in a Costco somewhere, watching as she signs books.
Palin, once again, proves that she is a tough talking, weak individual that can dish it but can’t take the heat. She wants celebrity but doesn’t accept the responsibility nor the consequences. I have known several “drama queens” in my life. They make choices that create drama because they are addicted to the drama. It’s a way to get sympathy, it’s a way to blame others, it’s a way to get attention……all like Sarah.
She made the choice to go to busy Waikiki Beach instead of a private resort. That is the busiest beach of all the Islands. Of course she wanted to get notices.
She did it hoping for publicity shots of her kissing her baby and hangin out with Todd, but she quickly found out that she couldn’t control the message and the images being released.
The hat and t-shirt choices are examples of her poor thinkin’ skills.
Wow, she looks 55-60 in some of those Hawaii shots. Normally, I wouldn’t comment on the effects of aging, being in that age range, but since the Queen of Mean has always gotten by solely on looks, and has never shown a bit of mercy for anyone else, I must point out that she looks like heck- sorry Sarah.
Sarah Palin’s addiction to the limelight is only highlighted by the fact that she needed to alert Politico about her change in vacation plans. Most people who are desperate for privacy do not tell people where they are spending their holidays, do not let them know when they plan to travel and don’t alert them as to any changes in their schedule. Palin, either through her FB, Twitter or direct contact with friendly media chases the spotlight.
I’ve known people who have made names for themselves in film and in politics; people who have lived ordinary (well almost) lives because they guard their privacy. Their professional lives are just that; their family lives are separate and protected.
Palin can spin that the media is out to get her until she is dizzy, but she is victimized by only one person and that person stares at her daily from her very own mirror.
I’m sure that many others (like millions) also received a Christmas card from the White House (well, actually the DNC – sure beats all those fund raising requests they send), but it was nice to receive and the return address is the White House. Never received anything before with the presidental seal on it. GWB never sent me one.

The “Star-Bulletin” reports she left Maui this morning.
She was on Maui at Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Almost as busy as Waikiki. In some of the pic you can see the tan and green trim of the hotel. It’s a kind of unusual color combo. She wanted to be seen and she was to cheap to go to a more exclusive area like Lanai or one of the resorts on the Big Island that caters to celebrities. In Hawaii all beaches are public so you can’t keep people off the beach but in some places the paps have to land by boat since public access is not available.

As a mother, I can not fathom what she thinks she’s doing to her children (unless Piper hates playing on the beach). First she gets everyone excited with the trip…then she yanks it away. I know my children would have been upset and not at all keen to hop back on a plane for a long flight home after only two days.
Like others who have already written, I do not understand why she didn’t just move to another hotel and not tell anyone where she was going. Hawaii is host to celebrities that manage to have wonderful, private holidays all year long; celebrities that shun the cameras and manage their moments of privacy.

You’ll note there haven’t been any typical airport photos of princess winky and her brood. returning to wasilly. We recently visited the Caribbean and even having darker skin than the spooks from wasilly if you weren’t careful the first few days you could get some serious damage from the sun in a mere 1-2 hours. She better keep those kids hidden. Letting your kids get severely sun burned is abusive & DHS wouldn’t look kindly upon such neglect.

There’s something fishy about this Canadian speech situation. I don’t think she’s been ‘fired’ from anything. I think she’s still giving a speech in Canada, but the fundraising charity for the speech has been changed. That seems really suspicious to me, especially since the ticket prices and number of tickets available seem to suggest that the money raised would only cover the cost Palin charges to speak. Didn’t seem like any money could possibly be raised. What’s really going on? Sounds like a set-up. Like someone decided Palin needed to up her political resume with more speeches outside the U.S. and arranged for a an event, any event, to be scheduled. There’s more to this story, trust me. Why would they say she is not speaking to raise money for the hospital, but oops, we’ll still have her speak, only now for a children’s charity?
Who are the people behind the event — that’s what I want to know. From what I’ve read, it’s not the hospital. What kind of a fundraiser decides that the charity he/she raises money for doesn’t really matter, what matters is getting Palin to speak and paying her $200,000 for doing so?
Canadians: Time to speak out against having her raise money for a children’s charity. Speakers are supposed to have an understanding of their subject, and she doesn’t have any about this! Just ask the villages, the people getting federal aid for health care in Alaska, and any and all groups in Alaska working with children with special needs. What attention has she ever paid them? Has she even volunteered at Special Olympics? Get out!
On her looks. I would never disparage another–the above is about her record–as I try very hard to follow the golden rule. However, if I were Sarah, and said what she did in Going Rogue about the divorce rumors and Todd’s looks, I’d be really worried right now. If your marriage is based on physical attractiveness, any woman in her late 40′s has reason to keep her husband well away from beaches in SoCal, Florida, and, yes, Hawaii. There’s just too much competition.

Also about the Canadian speech — let’s not forget that this will be seen as some kind of perverse victory by Palin’s bots. They didn’t like the idea of her doing a fundraiser for a Canadian ‘socialist’ hospital, one with ‘death panels,’ and one that performed abortions. They’ll be thrilled that she’s given a speech for a children’s charity instead. Although, as I’ve pointed out above, I don’t think the ‘fundraising’ speech was ever about anything except Sarah.
First there was Paris Hilton who was famous for being famous.
Now there is s’error palin who is famous for wanting to be famous and refusing to leave the stage.

I also have been disturbed through the years, at the extremely high dollar amount spent to decorate the White House. I enjoy watching simply to see the talent and logistics that going into decorating the “peoples’ house”, but I wish it didn’t cost so much, particularly during this period of recession. However, as another mentioned, if the Obamas were to not decorate to a similar degree as in the past, they’d be damned as unChristian, etc.

Was just over at Immoral Minority and the comments on the thread about the Canadian speech are illuminating. Seems Palin has hooked up with some Canadian grifters. The speech she’s giving is at some banquet hall. They are organizing the event, and paying Palin $200,000. The hall is part-owner of a charity group that raises money and distributes it to other charities, after expenses. What do you want to bet that their ‘expenses’ are extraordinarily high? It’s not about charity, it’s about business. That’s why they don’t care where the money goes. They don’t even care if they barely break even. It’s more about publicity for them. Gee, I didn’t know Palin had relatives in Canada, but they sure sound like Palins to me!

The Palin love fest was in my town a couple of weeks ago. People braved the single digit temperatures just to get 15 seconds with her. They were all gushing about what a great person she is and how she has common sense. There was one article in a paper saying that one woman tore off the top of her McCain/ Palin sticker because she really voted for Palin and not McCain. I’m not sure where they think she has common sense. Especially if she is supposed to be a hockey mom or whatever. What hockey mom takes her kids out of school for weeks or months at a time? What mom takes her kids on a cross country trip during flu and cold season without providing jackets and socks? What mom doesn’t provide therapy and necessary aids for her special needs child? I don’t get how some women can’t see through her act. Maybe they have been watching too many soap operas?? No offense to those that do watch soap operas. She just reminds me of the popular girl in school who pretends to be your best friend while she is scheming to destroy you. All with a smile on her face.
If it was really about charity, it would be a downs syndrome charity. Obvious, easy, close to the heart. But no, not a thing for that charity.

I’ve worked in the nonprofit world for a long time and live near Santa Barbara, CA where there are lots of Hollywood types and lots of fundraisers…
Most often, they (the Hollywood types, not the fundraisers
) don’t charge to show up for an event like this, and most often they are really particular about what events they support in this way. As you can imagine, they get asked a lot, particularly if it’s obvious that they’re willing to be supportive.
Sometimes they will offer to do an event at a reduced fee if the charity isn’t near and dear to their hearts, and sometimes they’ll ask the full shebang rather than say no if they’re feeling like they’ve been asked too often.
So Sarah continues to be classy…would be interesting to know what the percentages were at this little extravaganza…
I wish the news outlets (HP) would also cover some Congressman/women as ‘entertainment’ or ‘celebrity’…the ones that pound their fist and lecture to the camera in an empty senate/house chamber…it’s called ‘acting’…those who ‘act’ (or pray) in lieu of actual work should be FIRED!!! we’re on to you and you know who you are! (mccain, bachmann, grassley, boehner, nelson, lieberman, mcconnell, demint) …too many to mention, but you know who grabs the headlines any way they can…the ones who want to make a name for themselves (celebrities), the ones who wish to be famous (infamous).
I saw my very first mudpuppy in person today. It was very exciting; we had a lovely conversation. Mudpuppies in Oregon are comparatively thin on the ground, this one had temporarily migrated up from California, so I was especially fortunate to see her. Hey, Kyra!

I wish the media would just leave the woods family alone to work out their problems if they can.They did not make that much of a fuss about the Mormon branch that was in Texas and was busted and the children taken away.Most of those women live on welfare because they are single mothers and are celestial wives.some of the girls are only 13 or so when they are given to their so called husbands and this was pushed under the rug and we hear very little about it or the cult.Now that was news worth writing about.
Mosy charity events are for free and we all know palin would not speak for free even to help0 a charity and yes it was the brother who arranged the speaking at another event..I agree with ChicagoMom something else is was going on.Maybe more Canadians should write to this charity event and show their displeasure at even having her there as it will not help the charity if she is paid 200,000 to speak.

Did y’all get a good look at the Flag on it? It’s all tattered and torn and looks like its had a couple of bullets rip holes through it*.
The more I think about the image and the ‘saying’ on the shirt, the more I’m convinced that the shirt’s message is not directed at/to people who are disgruntled with the USA, but is rather a statement of their feelings about the direction the US is headed and about the direction towards which SP and Mr. Sarah are, again, leaning/heading.
SP and Mr. Sarah are saying –via the shirt– the USA isn’t functioning the way [they think] it should be [hence an image of an old ratty flag instead of a proudly flying 'whole' Old Glory worthy of defending], and the only ‘choice’ they have, therefore, it to “get the hell out!”
The overall message is not ‘aimed’ at anyone; it’s a declaration, to everyone, from them.
It’s proclaiming loudly their intent: to work [rejoin] with Mr. Sarah’s political affiliation that the McC campaign was so quick to dismiss as “marked the wrong box by mistake” (or some such lame garbage.)
The Alaskan Independence Party/Separatist Party/Third Party is where the two are headed – I betcha. And they’re counting on taking all her adoring base with them…which, by the looks of the base’s loyalty to her despite reality and sanity checks, shouldn’t be too hard. They [the base] are in love with the image she’s created, not (obviously) with the intelligence and/or ability of the woman. They’re putty in her hands.
So, in one fell swoop, SP (and Mr. Sarah) on the beach in HI got ‘rid’ of the GOP (thanks to the sharpie) and showed where their future intentions/hearts lie {and, yes, “lie” may be read in both meanings of the word.}
Oh, yeah, she’s a most clever one, little Ms SP is… she’s got her base defending her HI ‘ensemble’ and has thereby introduced them to the idea of an ‘alternative’ to the status quo… She’ll slowly and surely keep it up, they’ll lovingly keep lapping it up, and BINGO, she’s be all set for a run for the WH as an independent/separatist/maverick in ’12.
And thus endeth -for the moment- my armchair psychiatric evaluation/dissection of SPs (and Mr. Sarah’s) true motives for the attire in HI. beth. (who is not a psychiatrist and who doesn’t even play one on TV.)
