Finally, the Irish Times has reviewed Going Rogue.

“As the world knows now, Palin was the most bizarre – but terrifyingly entertaining – vice- presidential candidate the US has ever run. I knew something was up when my new American friends passed on cocktails by saying they had to rush home to watch Palin give her speech to the Republican national convention on September 3rd, 2008. They never bailed on cocktails. They appeared the next day, looking bemused – and horrified.”

Good morning! Hoping the storm holds off until our family can get here, but it doesn’t seem likely. Ah well. Better safe. Anyone want a 20 pound turkey, a ten pound ham, a steamboat loin of beef, and mounds of vegetables and fruit? No? It will all freeze. Christmas in July may become the norm!

Only a half an hour to go to midnight here and it’ll be Christmas Day. So I would like to wish AKM and all of you wonderful contributors a very very happy Christmas.

Sadly the heat here is unbearable – too hot to sleep or eat, so goodness knows how we are going to wade through the mountain of food we have here for the family. I know my boys will have a solution to all of this heat and humidity – let’s drink!

Cheers everyone – stay safe and well.

I’ll never forget this bit from Time magazine’s review of the REAL Troopergate report:

“. . .the Branchflower report still makes for good reading, if only because it convincingly answers a question nobody had even thought to ask: Is the Palin administration shockingly amateurish? Yes, it is. Disturbingly so.”

Troopergate was just the beginning of how disturbed.

    Lilady-

    When tomorrow starts without me,
And I’m not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
all filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn’t cry
    The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
    We didn’t get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
and each time that you think of me,
I know you’ll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me,
    Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
and said my place was ready,
    In heaven far above,
And that I’d have to leave behind
    All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I’d always thought,
    I didn’t want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
    It seemed almost impossible,
    That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
and all the fun we had

    If I could re-live yesterday
    Just even for a while,
I’d say good-bye and kiss you
    And maybe see you smile.

    But then I fully realized,
    That this could never be,
    For emptiness and memories,
would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
    I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven’s gates,
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me,
    From His great golden throne.

    He said, “This is eternity,
    And all I’ve promised you.”
Today your life on earth is past,
    But here life starts anew

    I promise no tomorrow,
    But today will always last,
And since each day’s the same way
There’s no longing for the past.

    You have been so faithful,
    So trusting and so true.
    Though there were times
    You did some things
    You knew you shouldn’t do.

    But you have been forgiven
And now at last you’re free.
So won’t you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
    Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right here, in your heart.

LiladyNY – Peace, light and love to all of you.

From my favorite poem, Whitman’s “Song of the Open Road”

From this hour I ordain myself loos’d of limits and imaginary lines,
Going where I list, my own master total and absolute,
    Pausing, searching, receiving, contemplating,
Gently, but with undeniable will, divesting myself of the holds that
    would hold me.

I inhale great draughts of space,
The east and the west are mine, and the north and the south are
    mine.

I am larger, better than I thought,

I just finished reading Bill Hess’s story of his experience at the book signing on his blog ‘wasillalaskababy300 ‘. Sure glad he didn’t identify himself as ‘ media ‘ and blended in. Quite insightful.

Two things rather stood out to me.
    1. He mentioned that most everybody there in line were talking about almost everything EXCEPT Sarah Palin ( even though it was Her Hometown ) It would seem there was really no excitement… just something to do.
Nothing like the videos we saw of the crazy people camping out at other cities.
Is it only because they have seen her before..? around town..?
They were there… but it was not the rabid adoration.

2.The Kivgig thing ( which he commented on below- quote )
    ————–
” Now, as I placed my book in front of her, she looked at my hat and asked what Kivgiq was. I told her.
“Oh,” she said. She signed my book.
But… why did she have to ask? She had been governor of the State of Alaska for two-and-a-half years and of all of Alaska, it is the Arctic Slope that has been far and away the most important generator of wealth and economy for this state. The Iñupiat are the People of the Arctic Slope and Kivgiq is the big Iñupiat celebration of dance and feast like no other. ”
    ——————-
He seems a little shocked as well about the fact she has no idea what it is… as would I seeing as how she brags to everyone how much of a 100% Alaskan she is. You have to ask… in her Duties as Gov. of Alaska she had never attended or had legislation to relates to this celebration. And I thought I remembered hearing that someone at one of these ‘ Celebrations ‘ actually gave her a PERSONAL gift …. and it was later returned as well I think.
Wasn’t that the vest that was related to an ‘ ethics violation ‘… and she didn’t declare it. Gave it back, rather than declare it…?

And Todd is part native in his family bloodline… how could she have never known. Pretty amazing Huh. She has been described as not being ‘ curious ‘ about information and facts in the past. She’s apparently not curious about Her family either.
Bill Hess’s story is a good read and his pictures captured the moment.

For those that may have missed it ( and we all wish we could have ), the twit tweeted again and Gryphen posted it along with a story. I refuse to use up any more of my energy and thoughts on the Twit (HER or the message ) and so I am just going to cut and paste what I already posted at Gryphens.

    lite-4 letters
light-ONLY 5 letters ( AND the proper spelling)

She shortened various other words in the tweet. She couldn’t find ONE ….other letter in a word to change so the word ‘light ‘ would be spelled correctly….? Really..?
Tawd better not send her to Walmart ever to buy ‘ Lite-bulbs ‘… she will look all day and never find them.

@71- this is well said from that article:

“If that’s the case, then every insurance company and health care firm in America is a death panel, for that’s what they do each day: seek ways to trim costs to bolster profits.” And that is the problem with health care for profit period (or full stop, for those in England).

KateinCanada: I love Jaquie Lawson e-cards. Been sending them for years.

    Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays everyone.

    {{{LilLady}}}

Santa stopped by early today as daughter and family are heading to Texas to visit her in-laws. She did lots and lots of shopping for hubby and I at the Mudflats shop – I couldn’t have asked for anything better! There were so many Mudflat and Brian items that they nearly filled the large Mudflats tote she also gifted me with. I also ended up with three moose figurines and four stuffed moose, so I need to come up with other “B” names besides Brian and Brenda. Suggestions anyone?

    Happy holidays to all!

To show how Palin uses professional media and “lets them eat cake” when it’s more convenient, do read Bill Hess’ story about the photographer whose pictures were published in Going Rogue but who was denied any chance to take a photo of her in Wasilla.

Great Granny 2C: What fun to get so many Mudflats gifts! Some B names to consider are the Shakespearean Beatrice and Benedict and Barnaby. I had a wonderful cocker spaniel named Barnaby. He was named after Charles Dickens’ unfinished novel, “Barnaby Rudge.” Bella is another nice B name and how about Birdie?

GG2C – Merry ChristMoose to you !! What a lovely day you had. Happy Holiday to your new grandbaby !!!

I’m going to go with Upper West Sider @96 and vote for Barnaby as a name for one of the new Brians. To me, it’s perfect!

Just got back from the VERY last run of shopping. ( well, not so much a run as it was a nice walk ) I was in full blown holiday warm fuzzy zone and was “Merry Christmas-ing” all willy nilly as I passed folks on the street. On the last leg of the wander , on my jaunt home, I passed a 70-some year old guy that was obviously a few sheets to the wind, coming out of a bar with his hat pulled low on his head. I worked to make eye contact and gave him a big smile and a , “Merry Christmas to You!” . Well DANG if it didn’t make him teary eyed and caught him off guard. I continued on home but now that I’m here I want to go back in hopes of finding him . He’ll be in my head all night.

Christmas Eve is one of my very favorite days of the year. To me it is filled with potential and hope. I sort of wish it lasted twice as long as Christmas day.

Merry Merry Merry to all of you and all of us. Always and all ways .

FactCheck has a new article up on Sarah Palin. It is the rebuttal of some Alaskan fisherman who makes lots of positive statements on her and FactCheck rebuts the lies. It is a must read – he gives her ALL the credit for Exxon finally settling. Ahhhhhh – the blindness of some!

Valley Independent, don’t fret, there was talk earlier in the thread about the Globe, and the Globe and Mail sure ain’t what it used to be. Not at the disgraceful level of the National Post or the Toronto Sun yet, but still on a downwards slide.
