The Mudflats

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

It’s still winter.  Last week, I did a quick mental tally and realized I’d gone nine whole days without seeing the sun.  I get up in the dark, go to work in the dark, come home in the dark…  So, I made it a point of cutting out of work early one day and zoomed home, put on the bunny boots the minute I walked in the door and Buf the dog and I went for a walk.  Since then, the wind has howled in the valley and all the beautiful frost has blown away.  I was glad to have a few minutes to appreciate it.  I’ll toss up a few of the pictures over the next couple days.

Hope wherever you are, you’re enjoying the few extra minutes of daylight that have come since the solstice.  We are still in the dark contemplative time, but the year moves on, the Earth slips along its orbit,  and brings us along for the journey.

    #2 @dowl ~ Amen and again Amen!

#5 @juneaudream ~ you’ve captured the essence of this picture perfectly. Namaste.

AKM, your gifted words convey volumes to us. I give thanks every day for Sarah Palin that she brought me to this place.

We had a nice snow storm 10 days ago, rain a few days after that and currently have wind howling over the top of the mountain – sometimes gusting over 40 mph. Nothing like an approaching freight train.

I’d like to share some beautiful pictures but none of them approach the one above. Not to mention the lack of snow on the ground.

I’d also like to add an “Amen”….for darkness will eventually yield to the light.

‘ Anytime ‘ you decide to snap a picture AKM… we seem amazed at the scenes before us, because we don’t live there.
From your perspective….. does it ever get old or just ordinary being surrounded by all of natures wonder on display..?
Based on your writings…. It seems like you look at everything around you with the excitement of a 12 yo seeing it for the first time. We appreciate that, because WE are seeing it for the first time.

As much as you appreciated and wanted that little respite and break that day…. I’ll bet Buf enjoyed it even more.

Thanks for your beautiful prose and for the Alaskan memories. Here in New Mexico I looked out the window this morning to a beautiful Winter Wonderland. It won’t last, like yours, but I am enjoying every minute it is here.

Another lovely and serene photo! We had brief flurries on Christmas Day and I was so hoping there would be some accumulation so I could go out and make a snow angel, but it soon stopped and we are left with the mud and brown…… but winter isn’t over yet, so we will see more snow eventually!

There is mention in the ADN that the Judge will soon rule on the Palin/state e-mails. I hope he finds in favor of Andree McLeod.

http://www.ilovemountains.org/stream-buffer/ is the link for asking the federal government to make coal mining illegal next to streams — a Bush-era change to the law, that should be repealed. Please hurry — time is running out.

Health and peace to all. C U in chat.

If you put your mind back into the pre-science days and try to imagine how much of a miracle that first “longer” day was and what it meant to people as a preamble not just to spring but to survival.
It is truely an awesome act of nature or God or gods or just of a tiny planet in an enormous universe of planets that is just the right distance from a medium sized sun in a universe of suns, with abundant water, and an atmosphere rich in oxygen and carbon, and it rotates on an axis and the axis even wobbles.
    What are the odds?

If you think the ” Palin 3 ring Circus ” is not good enough for a laugh…. I came across this story link from one of S’errors Fan sites bragging about her accomplishments.
The author of this List is clueless though. I wouldn’t do business with Him.
    He’s good as a comedian.
