The Mudflats

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Something’s Fishy…

A simple reminder to conservationists to attend the election meeting of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has taken a fascinating and amusing twist.  You’re going to like this one.

I noted in my first announcement that the website AmmoLand.com had posted a notice from the Anchorage Second Amendment Task Force (2ATF) about this meeting, in which they reported the following:

Radical environmental groups have mobilized to insert their preferred candidate’s in order to use the board to promote their twisted agenda, including supporting the listing of cook inlet Beluga’s as endangered.

I copied and pasted this quote from their website directly into my post.

Then, after I posted and linked to AmmoLand, the copy suddenly changed.  The word “radical” was removed from “Radical environmentalists,” and the word “twisted” was removed from “their twisted agenda.”  This was interesting in and of itself, but then the following comment appeared on The Mudflats.

“Submitted on 2010/01/04 at 2:53pm

The alert sent out by Anchorage 2ATF reads:
“Environmental groups have mobilized to insert their preferred candidate’s in order to use the board to promote their agenda, including supporting the listing of cook inlet Beluga’s as endangered.”
No links were included.

Mudflats misquotes this statement above:
“Radical environmental groups have mobilized to insert their preferred candidate’s in order to use the board to promote their twisted agenda, including supporting the listing of cook inlet Beluga’s as endangered.”
Link included.

Do not expect any factual information here.

Mudflats live off the distortion of the facts.”

Even more interesting.  This person was saying that I had changed the wording of the Anchorage 2ATF to sound less extreme.  And, they said, not only had I deliberately misquoted them, but for some reason had linked to the site that I misquoted.  Hard to believe.

Apparently our little friend didn’t realize that the email that was sent out with the “radical, twisted” wording went out not only to the 2ATF mailing list, but that I have a copy of it.  Here it is:

2atf

I cropped off a little on the bottom, but you can clearly see at the end that my quote is accurate.

So, what was going on here?  Someone was coming on to The Mudflats and trying to tell readers that I was lying – that I couldn’t be trusted – that I was manipulating the facts to suit my personal agenda – that nobody should believe what I write.  Well, that’s not very nice…

Obviously, anyone who has gotten the 2ATF email can go into their inbox right now and see that the claim by this commenter who goes by the screen name “AK_Fish,” is categorically false.  They may have changed the website, but the email cannot be taken back and remains as it was originally sent.  You can’t unring the bell.  Who would be foolish enough to say that the email said one thing when it had been sent to hundreds of people who could easily check it on their own computers?  I was curious.

So, I decided to check out this commenter and see who it might be.    I checked out the email address that the commenter was nice enough to leave.  It turns out that the email address associated with “AK_Fish” is easily traced to none other than Alaska House District 22 Candidate Mark Fish.  I guess the “fish4house” part of the email should have been a hint.  I’m shocked, shocked I say!  Imagine the idea that a Republican candidate for political office in the State of Alaska could do something like that. Don’t that beat all?

This is what we’re up against, folks.  So, back to my original intent for this post.  Please don’t forget to come to tonight’s meeting!  We need every single one of you.  And if you’re early, it’s rumored there will be brownies!

Anchorage School District Building Education Center – 5530 Northern Lights Blvd. – 6:00 TONIGHT.  Please come and bring friends!

“Involuntary servitude happens when individual’s have no choice but to expend their labor to satisfy the ever increasing demands of government simply because they are exercising their right of home ownership.” [his emphasis]

So we have a right to not just a roof over our heads but to own our homes? This is a pretty shocking thing given “conservatives” insist that people have no right to health care.

  30. 30

I find it fascinating (and scary) that these people think that whatever they are saying at the moment is the TRUTH.

They do not consider that what they have said before is on tape, youtube, or on emails.

Those things seem not to exist in their “reality.” I remember from something when Bush was president, he mentioned something about “his reality.” His reality certainly turned out to be different than everyone else’s in the world.

Where are they getting this from? Some fringe religious thing? If you think it, it will come? If you pretend it doesn’t exist, it will go away? From cartoons?

I’m on the East coast and I’m getting tired. I know this won’t make sense in the morning either.

But I do remember working for a pathological liar, at an early point of my life, and another paranoid boss just a few years later. The first one couldn’t tell the truth if his life depended on it. And the second was convinced everyone was out to get him. He was wrong, but it made no difference in his mind.

Why do I feel caught in the same recording here?

Wells novel and the 1979 movie is rated 3.2/10 on the IMDb!), and “Logan’s Run”.

His hobbies are muzzle loaders, fishing, history

Also, LiladyNY made use of the term “hoisted by one’s petard” earlier. I did the same a few weeks ago, then decided to see exactly what a petard was. I was thinking it was a nautical term such as a mast or a boom……. whooo boy was I wrong. Well it is a boom sort of….. a fart.

Here’s what I discovered by googling.

    1. A small bell-shaped bomb used to breach a gate or wall.
    2. A loud firecracker.
    (so far so good)

    “ETYMOLOGY:
French pétard, from Old French, from peter, to break wind, from pet, a breaking of wind, from Latin peditum, from neuter past participle of pedere, to break wind; see pezd- in Indo-European roots”

    (whoops!)

    “WORD HISTORY:
The French used pétard, “a loud discharge of intestinal gas,” for a kind of infernal engine for blasting through the gates of a city. “To be hoist by one’s own petard,” a now proverbial phrase apparently originating with Shakespeare’s Hamlet (around 1604) not long after the word entered English (around 1598), means “to blow oneself up with one’s own bomb, be undone by one’s own devices.” ”

(OMG the French built a bomb out of intestinal gas to blast through city gates? No wonder Americans now despise the French!)

“The French noun pet, “fart,” developed regularly from the Latin noun peditum, from the Indo-European root *pezd-, “fart.” ”

I’m blown away so to speak by this discovery. And I thought Shakespeare was classier than this. He now seems so…..common.

But in this case, it fits……. AK Fish was blown up by his own fart so to speak. No wonder his post smelled.

I’d make a totally wild guess that there were maybe 400 people there, (give or take a hundred) and frankly, many of them looked like they probably hunt with automatic machine guns, but hey, this is Alaska, so maybe they were just really manly looking environmentalists. I saw several people that I know (all assuming that I was voting on the anti-environmentalist side) and I politely clapped for every candidate, even the one who started out by announcing that he’s a convicted felon. Rusty, I was born here 46 years ago. I was undercover because sometimes it can be scary around certain people who like guns as much as many of the people last night do (my father was in Federal Law Enforcement for 30 years and you kind of pick up on these things). Also, there were several people that I know socially and professionally, and from the comments that some of them made, I did not want to possibly ruin my relationship with them over something as dumb as the fact that I was voting against them. I know their views and like them in spite of it, but sometimes people are so rigid that they will throw away a perfectly good friendship over nothing.

I see that the guy who bragged that he was a convicted felon got elected. That tells me that many of the people there were so passionately against the other side that they threw common sense out the window. I myself voted for a guy who was only running to keep the “Defenders of Wildlife Crazies” off the board, but I know him to be a good and honest person who would make thoughtful decisions.

    Would you do the same?

Thank you to all the mud pups for bringing out the truth. Chronic liars everywhere especially in affluent positions where millions and millions of federal dollars for the people is being misused and abused. Stupid greedy people lie and cheat to keep their control.
