The Mudflats

Tiptoeing Through the Muck of Alaskan Politics

Open Thread – Mudflats Wins Bloggers’ Choice Best Political Blog of 2009!

My site was nominated for Best Political Blog!

Thank you so much to everyone who voted for The Mudflats in the 2009 Bloggers Choice Awards for the Best Political Blog! I’m very pleased to announce that The Mudflats took the #1 spot again this year! It is very humbling to have won this award, and to have the support of so many of you for two years running.

Congratulations to the rest of the Mudflats crew – the Forum Master, Admins, Mods, Voices from the Flats contributing writers, Boots on the Ground roving reporters, The Mudflats Art Department, I Heart the Mudflats writers and crew, and to all of you who send me little tidbits, pictures, and stories. If there were ten of me, I’d use every one of them.

This is for ALL of you, who help to make this community something really special.

I think you may be tied with Granny Winky O’ Grifter for number of awards won in 2009. I bet that’s going to kick her competitive barracuda side in to high gear and she’s going to set her sights on adding ” Biggest Overall A$$Hat of 2010 ” to all the others she’s bound to take again this year. And y’know – if she really puts herself in to it , I think she might have that one in the bag by the beginning of March . She’s just that good!

Another book to look forward to and another good post by Andrew Sullivan………..

I don’t have the book yet – they have an insane embargo on it – but this nugget is worth chewing over:

In the days leading up to an interview with ABC News’ Charlie Gibson, aides were worried with Ms. Palin’s grasp of facts. She couldn’t explain why North and South Korea were separate nations and she did not know what the Federal Reserve did. She also said she believed Saddam Hussein attacked the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.

But it became almost immediately clear that she knew nothing about anything, had a private life that you usually see hashed out on Judge Judy, covered up her total lack of governing competence with so many lies they were hard to keep track of, and had next-to-no knowledge of any domestic or foreign policy issues, including energy. Isn’t that enough to regard her nomination is a total farce, the biggest insult ever delivered to voters since … well, Dan Quayle, who was far more informed, smart and serious than Palin ever was.

The idea that this person was qualified to run a country in one of its most serious crises, economically and militarily, beggars belief. The recklessness it revealed in McCain showed that he too was simply unqualified for high office, gambling with the core security of the US for cheap tactical advantage.

“San Antonio, TX -Dec 14, 2009- Tea Party Support has announced the keynote speakers and emcee at the first National Conservative Symposium, scheduled for Friday, January 22nd, 2010 through Sunday, January 24th, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas. Speaking will be Governor Sarah Palin; radio and TV host Sean Hannity; conservative blogger and TV commentator Michelle Malkin; and radio host and TV commentator Laura Ingraham. Best selling author and political pundit Kevin Jackson, will emcee the event.

The National Conservative Symposium, hosted by Tea Party Support, will bring together conservative grass roots leaders and community organizers from across America at one of the nation’s premiere resorts for a weekend of intense discussion, education and training. The objective of the Symposium is to inspire and empower conservative activists to take back their political party and to take the country back to constitutional governance and fiscal responsibility by organizing for political action in their local communities and then projecting their voice and actions all the way to Washington, D.C. etc…”

Just looked it up again and…….

    http://www.teapartysupport.com/

“Due to circumstances beyond the control of Tea Party Support, we are forced to cancel the National Conservative Symposium. More information will follow soon. Please check back. We have started processing refunds.”

@75 Martha….Wow! She couldn’t explain N and S Korea, or the Federal Reserve?

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since Palin stated that the “Dept of Law up there in the White House” would clear her of ethics complaints, unlike the Alaska system that she had to deal with. Say what?

Although I have only started commenting recently, I have been a regular reader since Sept 08, and I share the feeling of all that have posted already – this blog is one of the best, political or not, hands-down. Fabulous writing, superb research, and AKM’s wonderful sense of humor will keep me coming back even after Grifter Granny $P is long gone…

    Kudos!

Congratulations, AKM and all at Mudflats. Being able to come to Mudflats is definitely one of my daily pleasures. My day usually starts and ends on the flats. The articles, the comments, the forum, the chat (treehouse), and all the wonderful people I have meet and now consider friends are among the reasons I love Mudflats.

Thank you, AKM, mods, adms and everyone who contribute to making this the best (not just political) blog on the internet.

Well… so you know I am not CRAZY like some Granny we know,I referenced to something on the last Open thread. The whole thread is a lot shorter so the system must have made some adjustments. Palingates in the present thread copied and pasted something by someone who is ‘ Anonymous ‘. Enough said.

I used my Google for the Tea Party. The ‘ Symposium ‘ at the Tea Party Support page has been canceled but I don’t find anything online saying the Convention in Nashville where they will Crown ” The Queen ” has been.
We’ll have to wait and see if there is further Good News. Fingers crossed.
InSanity and Bl..eck will be disappointed. I’m sure they wanted to cover it.

@76 Is this the big teabaggers convention that Palin was to headline?

Even if she cancelled, why would they cancel the whole event? I wonder what happened. Maybe something happened with those leaked emails that showed that Palin was getting big bucks to speak.

No this was another event. The way it was described was kind of a “netroots” event.
How toos on fund raising and getting “on-line” lists and support going. Sort of community organizing. I was going to try to be the “Boots on the Ground”. I’m relieved that it won’t happen…. I can’t stand being around craziness and drama.

Today Mr.1smart just received a personal letter and survey from Michael Steele himself. It seems that (1) mr.1smart signed up as a Republican at some point in our state electoral system, or (2) one of his family members did this for him :) I suspect the first, but like the latter idea better. [Note: hate the need to declare a party; given my choice, it would be Independent.]

Anyway, this is quite funny and we will be sending back, with no funding, and with unwanted opinions I am sure.

The letter itself is quite interesting and I’m sure it can be located online. If not, let me know and I will take one for the team and quote it fully.

I had a great time reading it and sharing with mr.1smart. As I said earlier, he has come a long way in his political thinking in the last year even though he gets very tired of hearing from me about the mudpups and other bloggers and what they said today. I love it!

6.5 quake shakes buildings on California coast

FRESNO, Calif – A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Northern California Saturday afternoon, shaking buildings south of the Oregon border and knocking out power in several coastal communities.

The powerful quake hit at about 4:27 p.m. PST about 22 miles from Ferndale, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Authorities in the nearby city of Eureka and other area communities said no major injuries have been reported. But several people received minor cuts and scrapes from broken glass at the Bayshore Mall in Eureka, fire spokesman Gary Bird said.

“There are some frayed nerves, but I think we’ve come through this pretty well for the magnitude of earthquake we’ve had,” he said.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokesman J.D. Guidi said power outages were widespread across most of Humboldt County, affecting about 25,000 customers.

Several traffic lights fell and numerous residents reported water, gas and sewer leaks, Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services spokeswoman Jo Wattle said.

“People have chimneys down, and we’re hearing about minor property damage and lots of glassware broken,” Wattle said. “People are really shaken up. It was shaking pretty good, then it had a big jolt to it at the end.”
