Open Thread – Sold Out
The day before yesterday, I decided. I needed a copy of Game Change, the tell-all book of the 2008 presidential camapgn. And I needed it immediately. So I stopped in at Barnes & Noble. I was surprised not to see a giant pile of them right up front, so I started looking around. And I looked and I looked. In the political section, there was no Game Change. But there was a nice stack of Going Rouge – An American Nightmare.
I had a “moment.” I wasn’t expecting that particular moment to occur and I hadn’t really thought about it. But there I was standing in a book store looking at a book on the shelf that contained something I wrote. I have to tell you it was just a tad mind blowing. I grabbed a couple copies to give as gifts since they were sold out at Christmas time, and I walked up to the counter.
“Where can I find Game Change?” I asked. The book store lady pursed her lips together and looked sad. “If you’d been here just a couple hours ago…” she trailed off. “Gone?” I asked. “Yeah, totally sold out.”
“Well, I’ll just take these then,” I said putting the two copies of Going Rouge on the counter. She pursed her lips again. “You know these aren’t the ones that Sarah wrote, right?” she said, looking as though she might be preparing to feel sorry for me and my overwhelming stupidity.
I lauged. “Yes, I know she didn’t write it. I wrote a little piece of it, though!” I blurted out. This is very much NOT like me. It was one of those times when you think to yourself, “Did I just say that out loud?” I immediately panicked of course, wondering if she would think this was a good thing or not. I was quite relieved when she came back with “THANK you!” “Do you know how many of these things get returned because people think they’re buying the other one? It’s unbelievable.”
“Well, that would involve some of that pesky ‘reading,’” I said, making air quotes and looking around as I lowered my voice. She lauged.
The flood gates were open. “And what do you think of her new thing with Fox News?” We rolled our eyes simultaneously. I felt like I was talking to an old friend. “Now that she’s on there, I wish I could find a way to watch Fox even less than I do now, which is never. But, it’s just not possible.” I laughed.
I made my way back to the car, loot in hand. I stopped at three other book stores, but no luck with Game Change. I guess that’s a good thing.

I can now go to bed thankful for a new post with lots of warm humor and all the good stuff. Thank you AKM for helping me avoid the possibility of having nightmares about that – uh – other thing. Night all – WfAK
I haven’t looked for Game Change yet. But I spend time at my Barnes and Noble every Friday afternoon. I’ll have to check it out.
I love it that you had that conversation with the lady in the book store. I do that all the time when I’m buying books or getting a mocha. It’s great to find people who like the same books I like. Of course, it’s rather pathetic that everyone in the cafe part of the store know what I usually order and even which travel mug I usually use.
Oh, well. It’s my little bit of feeling like I still live in a small town when I really don’t.
Game Change : Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime by John Heilemann, Mark Halperin
Barnes and Noble Sales Rank: 1
Amazon.com Sales Rank: #1 in Books
If you can’t wait for your book to arrive, both B&N and Amazon allow you to look inside. Amazon has a search feature within theirs so you can search for specific
words.
Same thing happened to me. I checked on the web and it said B&N had it “in stock”. Stopped by after the taping of Shannyn’s show… and ‘all out”. The lady at the information desk said they had another 40 on order, and it has been selling well.
A bit off the topic, but I hope this subject gets a lot of notice in the press. Crazy Pat Robertson and Rush are both up to their same old tricks. Preachin’ Pat blames the earthquake in Haiti on their pact with Satan. And the drug addict himself says not to donate to the relief effort. (He claims Obama is just trying to gain some street cred with blacks)
These are two pillars of the conservative movement. Speaks volumes doesn’t it?
Here’s a passage from the book that could have widespread ramifications regarding the Constitution of Alaska (Andrea McLeod has some huge issues with this.).
Quote from page 361 Sarahcuda:
Do you have confidence in your lieutenant governor and your staff to fulfill your constitutional duties as the governor of Alaska in your absence? Schmidt asked.
Because unless there’s an earthquake or a natural disaster of of some magnitude, you won’t likely be back home again until after Election Day. You can’t be distracted by your day job. You need to be focused on this job.
Yes, absolutely, I understand, Palin said.
—————-
All the while not turning over the reigns of government to Sean Parnell. And of course collecting her paycheck for two months.
I never watch Fox either and wish I could obliterate the thought of her on television from my memory!
When is the latest Willow incident going to hit the fan ?
And I guess Steve Schmidt doesn’t need a bus with a huge likeness of himself plastered on the side; and he won’t be doing a bookstore tour across the USA.
He’s doing just fine in sales already.
I’ve read “Going Rouge, An American Nightmare,” twice. It is REALLY well written and has given me a greater insight into Sarah Palin than I would ever have gotten anywhere else.
Of course, husband was irritated with me when I started reading it the second time. “Hey, let ME read it before you start it AGAIN!” I reminded him that he was in the middle of “True Compass” by Sen. Ted Kennedy and promised him I’d be finished before HE finished that.
Compromise is so nice for achieving marital accord, isn’t it? (OK, it doesn’t ALWAYS work out like that!)
Great story!
BTW, Gryphen has an audio up from Beck’s show where he mocks her appearance on the TV show, talking about her paranoia (he should know) and lack of knowledge, among other stuff.
My theory is this: The “book” didn’t bring in enough cash, even with the bulk sales and reputed “2 million sold” meme. So–Murdoch, knowing the “cash cow” didn’t materialize, and didn’t even break even with her advance, has chained her to Pox News to get his money back.
What with Murdoch allegedly having cash flow problems (alleviated only by the Fox Pictures hit, “Avatar”, rumors of DirecTV going bankrupt and the family squabbles about Pox News and the lack of journalism, it’s hard to believe that Murdoch, an astute businessman and stone capitalist, would allow himself to lose money over The Quitter.
Palin is finished and has been relegated to the crazy fringe–even crazier than Beck himself.
Waiting for my Game Change copy to arrive. Ordered it from Amazon earlier this week. Already reading Going Rouge and Sarah from Alaska. All great books!
I ordered mine on Amazon too…expect its arrival on the 28th. I hope that its second and third printing get as much attention as the rogue’s did.
LOL Sounds like she was trying to be all professional then was relieved to be able to spout on Palin. And yes, seeing your name in print is always a wonderful thing.
Speaking of writing, President Barack Obama will write the cover story for next week’s Newsweek magazine. Bet HE won’t need a ghost writer!
I’ll be ordering Game Change online and will just wait. Finshed Republican Gomorrah and Started the God Delusion. By the time I am finished it should arrive. If not, I’ll stay busy with the book Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics. Whew… my brain ‘ll bust!
Another thought from conservative David Frum:
The Beck-Palin Conversation

I tweeted my passing thoughts as I watched the interviews, but here’s the bottom line observation:
Republicans used to be the daddy party – the party of responsibility, of rules, of the hard truths of life. Yet these two pre-eminently visible spokespersons for conservatism and Republicanism talked for a full hour about their … feelings. They talked about trust and betrayal, they talked about wounds and hurt, they talked about spirituality and even relationships. But they pronounced scarcely a word about any external reality: war, recession, the long-term prospects for the country. It was like a scene from a Marin County fern bar in 1977.
Funny , and a good thing indeed.
Girlfriend, you need a Kindle
What a charming anecdote! People returning it because they bought the wrong book–that’s a scream! Sadly, not a surprise.
Best quote from Beck: Who’s your favorite founding father?
Palin: All of them.
It’s amazing she couldn’t drudge up Ben Franklin; goodness knows she seems fixated on him lately. LOL
The “National Conservative Symposium” that was to be here in town has developed a problem. (File under: you can’t make this stuff up)
***
SAN ANTONIO – There’s some major controversy linked to a cancelled conservative party symposium. Dozens of people who signed up for the event are now finding out their online payments may have been secretly stolen.

Also, Too…. From the Tea Party Support Web site:

We are also waiting on refunds from speakers and those funds will be used to issue additional refunds. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this matter.

***
Good luck getting your money back from Sarah, if you already gave her a deposit, boys!
It’s funny the tea party organizers are messing up people’s refunds. The only time I pay for a conference is when it gives continuing education credits for my license. No one should pay to see Palin now that she’s on FOX.
Sold out in CT also. Went there the afternoon it came out – all gone. Ordered it on-line and it won’t be shipping until the 20th. There was a HUGE pile of $p’s “Going Rogue” – no buyers for that one – LOL
Thanks for the link Bonsai-Jay @17. You’re right – good luck getting their money back from Sarah! Poor teabaggers….
Funny recount of the bookstore moment, AKM. I could feel that ” did I just say that out loud ” reaction. Made me laugh.
I don’t know what they did to Limbaugh in that hospital but they need to remove whatever they put in , or get him off of whatever he’s on. Not only is he not backing down from his Haiti remarks he went after a caller who questioned him on it, telling her she’s a ‘Bigot’ With ‘Tampons in Her Ears’
http://bit.ly/81OdM2
Seriously, does the left have any radio or tv personalities that are like this ? I don’t listen to the radio other than BBC or NPR and I don’t have cable so I’m not familiar with the personalities that are out there. Is it just the extreme right or do we have our share?
Bonsai, that org has nothing to do with the Nashville event. They are another lunatic fringe teabagger group entirely. But–there’s hope that the Nashville one will crash and burn, too. : )
Glad to see ‘Game Change’ is still #1 at Amazon DESPITE the Teabaggers phoney ‘One-star b/c no Kindle” ratings ploy.
And I haven’t seen any reports of massive bulk buying/free-with-X giveaways a la Quitty’s work of fiction.
@16 Lisa B, “All of them”. “It’s amazing she couldn’t drudge up Ben Franklin; goodness knows she seems fixated on him lately. LOL”
____________
Very funny, indeed. Gee, where have I heard that before? What an idiot.
George Washington is the best she could come up with for no other reason than she could think of his name. Too bad Beck didn’t push her further as to why Washington was her fav.
Cheech and Chong want to get stoned with Palin:

After all, as they say, she already answers questions like a stoner.
Friday must be for funny this week. From Steve Marmel on the Huffpo, “Thank You, Fox News, for Taking Sarah Palin Off My Hands”:
“Fox didn’t hire her for her critical thinking skills. They didn’t hire her for “fairness” or “balance.” They’re paying her to do what she always does — take a story, squeeze it through the play-dough fun factory of her mind — and crap it out in the shape that best fits her brand.”

Grandma68 @ 20
Yes, I know it was separate. The event that was to be here was to be put on by the “Tea Party Support”. It was to be the Tea Party’s “net roots”. It was to be a internet “community orginizer” type thing (email lists, blogs, fund raisers, etc.).
I had kinda thought to be “Boots on Ground”…. Glad it was canceled.
Alaska’s experiment with electing a female didn’t go well. It will be a long time before I consider a female with young children again. Too bad. Let’s get this state back to functionality. That does NOT mean throw as many people as possible in jail especially Alaska Natives. Throwing natives in jail seems to be the watchword agenda for both parties. Disgusting. Can Tony Knowles run again?
In her words…Palin is not ruling out the WH:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/01/15/palin-fox-gig-doesnt-close-the-door-to-2012/
Actually, finding this book sold out just a week after it’s release is not a good thing because it tells you Harper Collins seriously underprinted Game Change and did a lousy job of “selling it in.” Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble were both sold out before the release day, with notices up saying more stock expected in one to three WEEKS. HC originally printed 75,000; last I heard they had gone back to press twice to bring it to a total of only 150,000. They were not pushing this book.
Catching that first wave of publicity and talk show excitement is important, and they missed it. There are a lot of people who will not go back a second time to buy the book. Did they do this deliberately, or are they just stupid? Who knows. All I know is, the authors must be furious.
No wonder Sarah must keep “working”: an unemployed husband, lawsuits, bail money, lawyer fees, therapy sessions, fines, custody battles, and all emanating from her living room!
As she flies all over hell and creation to appear before audiences just as dumb as she is, the kids are drugging, partying, screwing around, and basically neglected for much of the time. Yet the “home schooling” crowd holds her up as an example of “Christian motherhood” and family values.
Go home, Sarah. Your kids need you more than the nation. Book signing tours, Hawaiian vacations, public appearances, and Fox News are less important than raising those kids you consider a “blessing”.
Do you remember Newlyweds with Jessica Simpson? I acknowledge I watched to see her make a silly comment. Kind of reminds me of the show we are seeing today on Fox. The not so newlywed Palin.
Geesh that little Sarah ornament thing is flat out wild. That looks like a crazy craft project.
Sadly, this book is being lambasted on Amazon simply because there is not a Kindle version. It’s marks are 5 and 1 — guess who’s giving it a 1.
I got my copy of “Going Rouge, An American Nightmare” and read it in less than a day.
It’s one of the best political books I’ve read in a long time. All of the contributors did a fantastic job. And my two favorite chapters were written by..AKM and Shannyn Moore!
Thank you, AKM for the great chapter!!
What a lovely interaction! A good thing, indeed. Have a great weekend AKM and all other mudpups!
I have the book. Also “Going Rouge” which was a great read as well. I read “Game Change” in two days. Fascinating!
The suggestion that there is something “seriously wrong” with Sarah is also mentioned in the book.
Great read! As was “Going Rouge”.
this has to be embarrassing and a black mark on the Tea Baggers movement. I hope the FBI does some real extensive investigating, like all the way into SarahPac, the Trust Fund and Scarah’s income. Ask her some gotchya questions!
From the link above….
“The viewers say Perdue sent them an e-mail advising them someone with access to the organization’s website changed the password and diverted payments to a personal account, instead of the company’s account.
Perdue didn’t want to talk to News 4 WOAI on camera, but is now accusing the organization’s event planner of repeatedly diverting funds sent through a PayPal account setup on the Tea Party Support website.
Perdue says the symposium and its keynote speakers had to be cancelled after discovering the event planner secretly moved thousands of registration payments into her personal account.
In the e-mail the News 4 WOAI viewer, Perdue advises Tea Party Support is turning over evidence to the FBI.
Perdue says as many as 110 people are effected by this scheme.”
So glad it’s not available because it’s perpetually sold out – that’s worth five stars.
Every so often my cartography/guidebook work has me mapping northeast Connecticut. I wonder what it would be like growing up in the largest town of the region, hearing with every TV ad the phrase “Not available in Storrs!”
I am confused is Sarah Palin for Unions or against them. Just saw her recent twitter note and am a bit confused on her position. Is she really Republican? I am starting to think she is a closet Independent.
AKM,
Having read your post about Haiti, I thought I would post this link of the opening segment from last night of Craig Ferguson of The Late, Late Show wherein he recognizes the devastation is far more important to be discussed than the Tonight Show drama playing out.
He also had a message for Rush, which would be nice to see him make good on it as Craig did not do it in a mean spirited way.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27LDh7BBK_4
from the CNN site…..Scarah says she has solutions, LOL.
“You know, I’m not going to close any doors for my future, for my family’s future – don’t know what’s in the future, what it holds, but between now and whenever a big decision has to be made, I’m gonna do all that I can to help our country get back on the right track, and that’s to get a message out there about solutions that I believe and a whole lot of Americans believe need to be plugged in,” said the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee.”
Who else, who has his house in order, wants to step to the plate and get the job done here in Alaska? Sick of this gossip and stupidity. Anchorage is going to run out of gas. Where’s the pipeline. We’ve got a gigantic state to run here. Any local person interested in doing this? No recently arrived, connected types need apply. Alaska needs a parochial aka local world view just now. Not some resource jealous corporate interest spokesmodel fancy pageant walking international shill willing to sacrifice “natives”.
Thanks ya’ll.
Found that Palin’s “Going Rouge” is online and free to anyone who wants to download it. From $29 to free in record time is the Palin legacy.
I am on the waiting list at the library for Game Change and Republican Gomorrah. Looking forward to those two books.
Will the latest revelations about SP’s children, make her stop using that worn out mama grizzly sound bite?
this is interesting…….hmmmm, he’s a well liked Republican, I wonder if he’s going to seek higher office? he sounds a bit like Scarah’s talk.

Always nice to have a peek at how awful the 18th century was.
There’s a website with contact info for Limbaugh’s sponsors for those who want to voice your disgust :
http://rushwenttofar.synthasite.com/
IMO he is hoping for the backlash. It’ll give him something else to go on about. He’ll blame it on POTUS and the ever growing plot against the conservatives. Beck has lost 97 sponsors since the push began against him this past summer and yet he keeps his job. Rush is counting on the same. I think we need to contact the sponsors and make a statement anyway.
I’m off to send some emails !

ho ho ho……Scarah’s political poison…..this is about a Dem Senate win in a VA special election.
http://politics.theatlantic.com/2010/01/another_race_to_think_about_dem_wins_in_northern_va.php
“The Democratic take on the victory, from a Democratic party source, is that it shows Democrats can win by running on jobs and the economy, and by tying GOP candidates to Sarah Palin, two things the party plans to do a lot of in 2010.”
Does anyone know any more about the EPA serving search warrants on Chevron Cop. properties in AK? Seems to be about air emission compliance. The two properties are Trading Bay Production and Granite Point Tank Farm at Cook Inlet.
HuffPost got the info from the Anchorage Daily News.

When is the latest Willow incident going to hit the fan ?
What happened Now ?
I was just reviewing some of my earlier blog posts and came across one about Palin being asked if she would debate Al Gore.
Wow, now that she is at Fox do you suppose she will invite him on to chat about climate change?
Hahahahaha.
In 1964 there was an earthquake in Alaska larger than the Haiti earthquake. Alaska still has inadequate sanitation and water facilities.
Do you think Palin is pretty? Who cares?
Palin ought to run her household in lieu of television shows.
Barbara: Yes, WHAT solutions? Snark is not a solution.
cut taxes on the job creators, blah blah blah
Did anyone else feel like they had to take a shower and scrub themselves with a brillo pad after watching Glenn Beck read his journal to Scarah? I am waiting to see the headlines about her taking out a restraining order against him. And when she runs out of ways to talk about herself, what exactly is she going to talk about? Well, I guess she could keep her blackberry with her and google every question they ask her. That would be interesting tv.
Alaska is a state wherein there has been historic interference with natives voting. The ethnic population in prisons is out of proportion to other ethnic population ratios. It cannot be accounted for except as incidental to negative social distinction. Imprisonment negatively impacts “voting”. Imprisonment neutralizes “voting” rights (if any). Natives own land. Some of it has “resources”. Problems solving sometimes historically has resulted in dispossession of natives from economic opportunity by mass imprisonments. How terrible of anyone to speak of it. Even in an open ostensibly a poltical comment forum such as this one. We can all trust that everybody is nice and everything. Just Palin items please; for more pleasant housekeeping.
I found this article really interesting. I thought I’d see a fluff piece on the Obama kids instead it theorizes why the rabid right can’t stand our Prez. It’s his parenting style.
http://www.esquire.com/features/people-who-matter-2010/barack-obama-father-0210-3
Well rounded, well behaved kids are just not OK with this crowd. Smirk
38 and 50, thanks for posting that Sarah quote. Agreed, I’d love to hear these solutions but so far all I’ve heard out her mouth is soundbytes and catchphrases that other people have already said and that can be fairly argued (such as Reagan cut taxes and that lead to a strong economy so that’s what we need to do again. Hate to tell you Sarah, but if you construct a logical argument from a faulty premise, your conclusion is flawed.
Aw, but I think I used too many hard words in there, such as logical, premise and conclusion. I’m not sure she’d get faulty or flawed in this context either.
Also, the thing that’s annoying me is this coy “will-I or won’t-I? Only my hairdresser knows for sure” attitude about running for president.
I know candidates want to scope things out as much as possible, but the way things are today, to win, you need money, and to get money you need a very well organized and dedicated team in place, and you need TIME. She doesn’t know what’s in the future? Well, to an extent she does – she knows there will be another presidential election in Nov. of 2012. She knows the republican and democratic candidates will be chosen in primaries/caucuses between Jan and June of that same year. To win they need to run. It’s two years out. How much longer can she string her supporters along? The longer she does, the more she is taking advantage of them.
If she really believes what she spouts about moving America in the ‘right’ direction and ‘doing everything she can’, we should start seeing lots of SarahPAC money flowing into campaign coffers in the important 2010 races.
If not? She’s either just a big grifty liar or she is planning to run (but maybe not as Pres? That could be a fun twist) and keep the money for herself.
But that means she will know full well what she plans to do before 2010 is out. That ‘I don’t know what the future holds’ is really a little too much like a dead fish just goin’ with the flow.
C. Rock – the National Enquirer has a story about Willow being busted with other teens having a party in an unoccupied house. See Phil’s Progressive Alaska blog >>>
Barbara…her solutions are “common sense”, you know like lower taxes on the biggest earners and corporations, let the destitute pay for their own darn health care, and don’t let women have any say about their own bodies. Down with government and get socialism out of America–close those schools, police stations, fire departments and road works projects! It’s everyone for themselves cause she doesn’t think that anyone should pay taxes that will benefit someone else–that would be socialism not “common sense conservatism”.
And not only is she “common sense” but she’s a good god fearing woman to boot (cause, she and god have that special relationship–she’s the chosen one don’t chya know, just as Beck says, you betcha, also too).
By the way, she’s also the biggest fraud and idiot that I’ve ever had the misfortune to listen to.
Oh, and for anyone who was surprised by Pat Roberstons comments about Haiti and their deal with the devil, let’s not forget, this man is an expert on deals with the devil. Back in 2003, Pat went off on George Bush and condemned him in calling for a “democratically elected president” to step down. He said about that leaders war crimes indictment “is nonsense and shoule be quashed”. He also said we were “undermining a Christian, Baptist leader to bring in Muslim rebels to run the country.” That leader was Charles Taylor of Liberia who is currently on trial for war crimes. I won’t go into detail but if you wonder why Pat would have supported this guy, it might have had something to do with Pat’s multi-million dollar investment in Liberian gold mines. Funny, I don’t remember reading about Jesus making financial deals with murderous dictators.
I hope some people are offering big $$$ to the production crews of Faux news to spill the beans of how bad those interviews were before the big edit. Yes, I relish schadenfreude.
OMG @ 60: Second only to George Bush. They are the same person, except he was in charge. She needs never to be in any sort of “in charge” position again. I suspect she never will.
The fact is if a native person tries to have thoughtful discourse regarding the negative impact of (mass) imprisonments on voting opportunies of the ethnic Alaskan population this is not well received in any forum. The Nineth Circuit just said that people in federal prisons are very often there as a direct result of their ethnic heritage and therefore they must be allowed to vote while imprisoned. This is an “open thread”. I think that the statement of the Nineth Circuit is very appropos in Alaska, Palin and her distastefulness notwithstanding.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE AND PLEA FOR HELP !!!
As many of you know, this Tuesday January 19th is the date of the special election to fill Ted Kennedy’s Massachusetts Senate Seat. There has not been a Republican elected to a Massachusetts seat since 1972, but the G.O.P. has gone “All In” on this race and it is presently a toss up. The Democratic Party candidate, Martha Coakley (currently the Massachusetts Attorney General) is clinging to a razor thin lead in the polls but the momentum has swung to the Republican. I cannot overemphasize the importance of this race. Health care reform hangs in the balance. If Martha Coakley does not capture the Senate seat, the Democrats will lose their filibuster-proof 60 votes and the health care reform bill will not survive the Senate vote after reconciliation. Let me repeat, if Martha Coakley does not capture the Senate seat, the Democrats will lose their filibuster-proof 60 votes and the health care reform bill will not survive the Senate vote after reconciliation.
Lynnrockets’ Blast-Off has never asked any of you fellow Rocketeers to make a financial donation of any kind to any cause in the past and we hope that we will never feel the need to do so again. That being said, we are begging you to make a contribution (no matter how small it may be) to the Martha Coakley campaign immediately. The well funded Republican national interest groups are flooding the Brown campaign with contributions to get out the vote. We owe it to our nation to match their efforts. Please, please, please, please make a contribution today to:

Almost.
sudsy – Open Thread means just that. And not to minimize your words, but I wonder just what the prison population is by ethnicity in states with Reservations. AK isn’t the only part of the country with that kind of bigotry, unfortunately.
Good article on media matters about the conservative media’s coverage (or lack thereof) on Haiti:
http://mediamatters.org/columns/201001140050
If you know any Fox defenders and Rush lovers, it might be interesting to hear them defend these people.
To the extent that fancy pageant walking, or not is congruent with talking heads on teevee, which co-opts other valid conversations is the measurement exactly of how this strange Palin person has co-opted opportunity for valid public policy discussions. I don’t thank those who elevated this “place-holder”.
Another interesting article from the conservative Washington Times:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/jan/15/sarah-sells-out/
Do not be put off by the first part of the article which seems to heap praise on Palin…read to the end for what the conservative writer concludes.
if you’ve got any extra $ to throw Martha’s way it would probably be a very good idea. If she wins Ted Kennedy’s seat she’ll be the 60th Dem. vote, she is very needed. So far Brown (R) is beating Martha on out of state fundraising by quite a big percentage.
http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/22931
“The candidates are raising large sums in the final days of the campaign. A USA TODAY review of Federal Election Commission reports shows that as of Jan. 11, Coakley has received more than $273,000 in contributions this month, compared with $298,300 for Brown. More than 60% of Brown’s contributions came from out of state, compared with 36% for Coakley”

Have been receiving robo calls from Coakley, the DNC and now President Obama.
We’re worried about this. If you live in MA be sure to vote!
I can only hope that many Democrats are using their cell phones for their “home” numbers now and that’s why the polls are showing what they are showing. Pollers don’t poll cell phones.
People are misquoting… here is the real question:
Best quote from Beck: Who’s your favorite funding father?
Palin: All of them.

Done! Small contribution made with huge wishes for a successful campaign. Hope the progressives jump on this – ! Thanks for reminding us!
my B&N said the Game Change is late in delivery, so i will go back (like that is a big sacrifice) and check later this weekend. My happy moment was when i went to exchange a book given at christmas (sadly i had already read it) and found Going Rouge (the nightmare). oh happy day — i skipped to the counter with my treasure.
Giuliani the creep is workin it hard…….twitter feed is brutal too. If you know any Dems in MA please contact them to get out and vote. Coakley is falling behind in the polls and money is POURING in from Repubs all over the country, they NEED her to lose.
“Giuliani told The Examiner that despite the large Democratic base in the state, he believes Brown will win Tuesday’s special election to fill the seat once held by Ted Kennedy.
“People in Massachusetts are more independent-minded than the country gives them credit for,” Giuliani said, adding that residents in the Bay State are worried about taxes, terrorism and the $1 trillion cost of the Democratic health care plan.
“When people here get upset about something, they know how to speak out and they are upset right now,” Giuliani said.”

The most likely reason for that being that he’s not one of the authors of the book.

lynnrockets, thanks for stating my plea more coherently, lol, I’m scatter brained today. I think a lot of us are distracted by the terrible Haiti devastation, rightfully so, and Scarah debut before that, the Repubs are taking full advantage of our distraction.
Coakley was ahead in the polls last week. The Repubs are stealthy working to steal this win out from under us.
The real reason Coakley isn’t kicking Brown’s butt cheeks is because the idiot nephew – Joe Kennedy – thinks he can win an independent write-in campaign. He had his chance to participate in the primary but knew he’d lose. He’s as much a family man as is s’error palin.
Fellow mudflatters who are concerned about health care reform, please follow the advice of the above:

Many of us have wondered what we can do, and others have taken steps to write, call and raise money for progressive issues. Now is the time to really make a push, because if there are 41 Republicans, you can kiss anything meaningful happening in the next few years goodbye. They have already come out to say that they are trying to break this Presidency. Don’t let this happen! Please take action to help fund this Democratic candidate who is trying to fill the Teddy Kennedy Senate seat. Don’t let the likes of Rush Limbaugh, $P, and Glenn Beck get a win in Mass.
Please take a moment and make a donation at the above website.

Oh PS. Gryph is hinting toward a sex tape. I thought this would be the thing that would take the Queen down a year ago, but nobody thought it possible. It’s ALWAYS possible, especially with a narcissist.
Oh, please let it be possible. That’s just about the only thing that her teabagging minions would take issue with. All the Federal and IRS and ethics stuff will take years… any sort of Carrie Prejean-like behavior would push them over the cliff immediately.
And wouldn’t Fox have egg on their faces… another case of improper vetting!

A thousand “thank you’s” for your contribution to Martha Coakley’s campaign for Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat in Massachusetts. The campaign is in trouble and every penny will help to ensure the passage of a health care reform bill. If the Republican wins the seat, he has vowed to be the 41st vote which will derail the bill. You Mudflatters (no matter what state you may hail from) are the best. Pleas help save the bill and donate anything you can to :

Very important data from gallup:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/121991/World-Citizens-Views-Leadership-Pre-Post-Obama.aspx
While many in the US spend their days finding something to complain about with the Obama administration, the world gives him praise. And that includes an uptick in approval in the middle east.
Maybe the Linbaugh/Palin/Beck right wingers don’t care what the rest of the world thinks about the US but I do. It is essential for the safety of American citizens that others do not look upon them as enemies. Once again, people around the world are looking to the US as a friend and not the horrible evil empire that was built under the extreme conservative, anti-Constitutional regime of Bush/Cheney.
@ sauerkraut #85
Just a small point of correction, but please understand that the third party candidate in the Massachusetts special election Senate race, Joe Kennedy is NO RELATION to Ted Kennedy or the Kennedy family. That has been a common misconception that is causing Independent voters to steer votes away from Democrat Martha Coakley.
Palin said on Hannity that she would like to interview Brown. His cosmo photos don’t bother her like Levis Playgirl photos. ( He was older than Levi)
I think he would make it as V.P. for her future run in 2012.
Two of a kind? Don’t know a thing about him, but they would make a handsome campaign poster together. They can strip down and she can do the pageant walk and he could look manly.
She retains a high school girls view of men.

R’ipley- On Fox News “Live at Five”-? A bus tour for the DVD?

I do apologize… but can you tell me… is Scott Brown really Greg Lakian?
Interesting that she picked Washington since he was a military commander and did NOT sign the Declaration of Independence. It was another 14 years before he was elected as the Pres.
Sudsy, I totally agree with you. It’s frightening how little it takes for a lawyer to put people, any people for that matter in prison. Privatized prisons is one of my biggest bitches. They need bodies to make money. Lawyers get kickbacks for providing those bodies by letting their clients lose. The more poor you are, the easier it is to get away with it.
And yes, in AK I’m sure filling them with Native population has more than one benifit, like you said. I bet that happens in other states too, where people can be taken advantage of. It’s very concerning to me.
Terp, the longer she can keep guessing, speculating and hoping, “will she or will she not”, is all about keeping interest up, if she said no, how many people would care about her anymore. They’d shift the attention elsewhere, and lord knows Scarah can’t have that, plus it would can her new job. She’d lose her importance.

Say No@80, you gave me a brief chuckle – I thought you wrote “… and money is PORNING in from Repubs all over the country, they NEED her to lose.”
@73 OMG, Thanks for that link. OUCH!
The part I find amazing is that some people are just starting to figure out that Palin is in it for the money. Most of us figured that out a long time ago. In fact, the Palin’s were worth more (even before her book deal) than most American’s on Main Street. Her populist appeal was a PR image created for her.
Still waiting for detailed “common sense” solutions from Palin. She’s only had the 2008 campaign, a few speeches since, her book and now Fox News as a platform to regale us with said solutions. And yet, we wait.
She’s admitted she didn’t know that Ira
Couric: “What newspapers do you read?”
Palin: “All of ‘em!”
Yet in the several years that the US has been at war with Iraq, with reams and reams of newsprint devoted to said war, she’s only JUST figured out that Iraq did NOT plan 9/11. Slow reader, maybe? Or maybe…..lying as usual? Suddenly those allegations that she didn’t know Africa was not a country and didn’t know why there is a North and South Korea seems very plausible now, doesn’t it?
Beck: “Which is your favourite founding father?”
Palin: “All of ‘em! Err….Washington!”
Oh dear. You know what gets me? That even ON FOX NEWS where reality is anything you want it to be – Palin STILL managed to make a buffoon of herself! I would have thought Beck’s questions would have been thoroughly screened and vetted to ensure maximum soft-ball eligibility. Yet still…..she has a moose in the headlights moment, again, on national TV. Whoever is managing Sarah over at Fox News for these appearances is not her friend.
So hat tip to our Sarah – you’re an idiot and even Fox News can’t (can’t be bothered to?) hide it!
opps, sorry for mispost @ #99!

I’m not really sure.
On the election to replace Senator Kennedy, I am hopeful that the polls are inaccurate because of the cell phone as main phone. I have a home phone for my fax and emergencies (cells didn’t work on 9/11 when I was there, plus I have lived through many earthquakes), but almost never answer it.
In addition to people donating, if you have family or friends who live in Mass., please call them on their cells and email them to make sure they get out the vote. Tell them to please get their friends and neighbors out to vote as well.
This just came to me as I just got an email from a friend saying that the company she works for will make a matching gift for donations to help in Haiti. She’s donated what she could and asked if any of her friends wanted to donate, trusting her to donate and get the company matching gift. Of course I trust her, otherwise she wouldn’t be a friend. I don’t have the matching gift capability available because I don’t work for a big company, but have in the past, so I know this is legit.
You can truly have a multiplier effect by working together. Please go out and contact your Mass. friends to vote for

Poll shocker: Scott Brown surges ahead in Senate race
“Paleologos said bellwether models show high numbers of independent voters turning out on election day, which benefits Brown, who has 65 percent of that bloc compared to Coakley’s 30 percent. Kennedy earns just 3 percent of the independent vote, and 1 percent are undecided.
Given the 4.4-point margin of error, the poll shows Coakley could win the race, Paleologos said. But if Brown’s momentum holds, he is poised to succeed the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy – and to halt health-care reform, the issue the late senator dubbed “the cause of my life.”
[...]
“For Coakley, Brown’s surge may be as ominous as the fact that her campaign’s peril is not fully recognized, with 64 percent of voters still believing she’ll win – a perception that threatens to keep her supporters home.”
http://www.bostonherald.com/news/politics/view/20100115source_obama_to_visit_bay_state_to_help_coakley/
“President Obama will travel to the Bay State on Sunday to join Attorney General Martha Coakley on the campaign trail, according to a high-level Coakley campaign source. The visit is scheduled for the afternoon, and it will be officially announced shortly, the source says.”
I think we need a new game, and maybe a new graphic.
Name all the things in which Palin repies, “All of them”.

I really dislike Giuliani…….he going in for the scary terrorism tactic.
http://www.bostonherald.com/news/politics/view/20100115awaiting_giuliani_brown_supporters_welcome_surprise_surge/
“Former New York City mayor and GOP stalwart Rudy Giuliani hammered Attorney General Martha Coakley on terrorism during a raucous campaign stop in the North End today where he revved up Scott Brown’s surging campaign.
“His election, I believe, will send a signal and I believe a very dramatic one, that we are going in the wrong direction on terrorism,” Giuliani said of Brown.”
from the same article I just posted……
“Coakley will get some help from former President Bill Clinton later today. Clinton is scheduled to appear with Coakley at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston before heading to Worcester for a rally.”
Bill Clinton is here today stumping for Coakley. He is always a huge draw in Boston but his popularity wanes a bit in the more rural (if you can call it that) western part of the state.
The BIG GUNS are moving in. the Teabaggers best remember that the original Tea Party was here in Boston and when their short-lived existence comes to an end, the original Tea Party will always be remembered.
I watched Beck drool over all Palin, omg, too fuuny and she didn’t look too happy, but what I got out of all of that was “Dumb and Dumber”

Scott Brown: Obama not invited to this party
By Hillary Chabot
“But Republican consultant Charlie Manning said a visit from a president with tanking ratings would make Coakley look desperate as upstart Brown enjoys a last-minute boost from climbing poll numbers and media momentum.
“It’s sort of like trying to bail out a boat that’s already sinking. I don’t think they can fool the voters of Massachusetts this time,” Manning said.”
LOL. She’s a fraud.
Case closed.
If Coakley looses, its her own fault. Her mouth has turned off so many of us who aren’t that political to begin with. I used to call myself a democrat, but all the nastyness has really turned me off. She insulted me, a nurse and a catholic. My husband, who loves the Redsox, and my nephew, who’s in afganistan fighting actual terrorist.
Not that I like the repubs, but I haven’t really heard any hateful comments coming from Brown.
Sort of OT, but how on earth did I miss this one?!

I ask the rest of you Mudflatters to please do what you can to help Coakley and save the health care reform bill either by means of a campaign donation or the offer to make phone calls. We must match the out of state money that is going to the Republican. This is that important! Please contact:

I respect your opinion but inasmuch as you are a nurse, I would think that you know as well as anyone that the health care system as is, is broken and unsustainable. Please be unselfish and take one for the team. Vote for Coakley to save health care reform so that your patients do not die or suffer as the result of unaffordable private health insurance premiums or because of insurance company claim denials based upon pre-existing conditions. Remember, Brown has vowed to vote against the bill and therefore to maintain our current broken system.
By the way, I too am Catholic and I wonder what you meant by saying, she (i.e Coakley) insulted you as a Catholic?
I also too thought her answer to Beck was weak, and you could see by her expression that the word diversity popped in her head then she started rambling about what diverse a group the founding fathers were. Ya a bunch of white men who were elitist land owners, real diverse!
Did anyone catch Palin on Hannity last night? She was high on Red Bull, just jabbering and breathless, rambing with her broken record statements of “get government out of the way and let the free markets work, cut taxes, blah..” I wish they’d ask her for specific ideas because she’s been saying the same thing on every interview!
When she gets in front of Hannity, who loves her and wouldn’t ask any real questions, she’s high on herself and can’t get enough of her rhetoric. Even when he makes a statement for her to comment on, he adds his opinion first so she knows which stance to take, then he sits back and smiles the whole time she’s talking, it’s sickening!
Anne @127 – “Jabbering and Breathless” – I would love for that to be the made-for-cable movie about Palin. It’s perfect!
Ann, yep, he’s babysitting her. I haven’t watched it yet but I bet that’s what is going on. Feeding her the days talking points.
“Even when he makes a statement for her to comment on, he adds his opinion first so she knows which stance to take, then he sits back and smiles the whole time she’s talking, it’s sickening!”
Hahahahahahahahaha. So glad to have the verification that bots are so easily fooled!
Yesterday I went to our neighborhood Fred Meyer’s store and found Sarah’s book turned face in so you couldn’t see the cover. There were several other books promoting Sarah, also turned face in. Ann Coulter got the same treatment. I was so pleased. Maybe some of you have been there. This is a low end department store in a working class neighborhood. Maybe there is hope for sanity. Cheers to whoever did this!
For those who have been increasingly irritated (or amused) by Palin’s babbling about her “Common Sense Solutions” in solving the country’s problems, here is an interesting post by the author of “The Last Founding Father: “James Monroe and a Nation’s Call to Greatness.” The author, Mr. Harlow Giles Unger, puts common sense and Sarah Palin in their rightful places:
“Sarah Palin — and many Americans like her — would, it seems, dismiss James Monroe and other brilliantly educated Founding Fathers as “elitist,” believing that an aborted two-year stint as Alaska’s governor, a term as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, and “common sense” are enough training to lead America and the Free World. Like too many children in school, they demean achievement in the classroom while celebrating achievement on the playing field.”
The author further says that McCain’s selection of Palin was a political gimmick which bordered on sedition.
