Also, too…about Bristol saying she’s so depressed after having the baby…I’m sure her son will read those very words in the future and be depressed as well. She needs to suck it up and drive on. Of course not. Would any of us stop eating candy or pizza if they didn’t make us gain weight?

What she ought to be talking up is better sex education. Not just of teens but of their parents to wake up to the reality of teen sex and get their sons and daughters the right “equipment” with proper instructions on how to use it.

Good news.

Was just over at UltimateCivis.org and Alan Grayson’s site.
UltimateCivics.org has the Amendment Petition to end the ability of corporations to be considered entities deserving of rights under our constituition. When I signed on Thur. night or Fri. morning, I was about signer no. 6800.

It now has over 34,000 ‘signatures’

And similar at Grayson’s site. I was about signer no. 17,000 there, and now its over 71,000 ‘signatures!

I know a lot of you already have done, but if not, nip over there and add your voice.

If you have, pass along the links to your friends, include them in FaceBook posts or whatever you do. Keep talking to people about it. Some people don’t keep as informed as others and may not even know about it! That’s exactly how crap gets through and we must stop it before it’s too late.

We have to stay on top of this and keep up the momentum. Ever week we should be doing something active. Last week I wrote my representative. Nest week it’ll be informing my students (as this is a non-partisan issue its OK).

Great characature of Sen. Murkowski, and so true that she is bought and paid for by big oil. I signed up on her Facebook page as a “fan” so I could see what she was putting out there, and to see what kind of comments it’s generating. She doesn’t seem to have a lot of active followers, and relatively few people comment there, but it’s still a lonely and difficult place for a progressive like me to go. I am urging all of you to sign up as a “fan” of hers to help counter some of her ridiculous statements and those of her other “fans”.

I signed petitions.

I did in Barnes & Noble! And any of the magazines with her mug on the cover I cover with another magazine.

Am I the only one who senses a tiny dimming of her flame? The more she appears in public and in interviews the more she shows how really empty she is. Her cult followers, of course, will continue to think she spews rainbows every time she opens her mouth and they are entitled to think what they like. But there are little chinks showing. They are starting to ask questions and give little criticisms that would never have been done before her alleged book tour and appearances on teh Tee Vee® and Oprah and magazine interviews.

Please shout at your Senators and Reps to get the HCR done! We’ve invested too much time and work to let it go now. And since when is 59 to 41 not a majority? Use whatever procedures are necessary, but let’s get ‘er done.

I am an extremely healthy older woman. I take no medicines. I see my doctor once a year and have routine mammograms. I have not had health care coverage for over three years. When my COBRA ran out, I checked out private insurance. The BEST I could find would cost $800 a month with a $4000 deduction. So I should pay out almost $14,000 a year when my actual medical outlays are around $1,000 including the dentist! That adds up to a considerable amount of my income. It’s totally crazy. I take the money I was originally paying for COBRA and keep it in a separate interest-bearing savings account and use that as necessary. I’m sure my age counts against me, but you would think my good health would count as a plus toward lowering costs. I’m just hanging on till I am eligible for Medicare. You best believe I’d have no problem with gubmint “socialized” medicine. The whole situation is wacky.

Yesterday there was a cross-Canada protest against Harper’s decision to shut down Parliament until March 1 instead of continuing the session that was due to start today. This means that all bills being worked on automatically timed out and have to be started over in March. It also protects him from protests or criticism on the floor about Canada’s postion on torture, the environment, or anything else while the Olympics take place. There are other benefits for his party.

Protesters have started calling him the Pro-rogue.

They also sent messages urging officials to unlock the door of the parliament Buildings so that disagreeing MPs could show up for work (unlikely!) and one BC group planned to ring bells as they walked through town, like the bells that ring to call MPs to session.
I drove 40 miles to attend a small protest but got lost and missed most of it. Took Brian’s picture along for luck. For me at least, Brian is a mighty political force, but a bit slow for being on time.
Actually, it was the Chocolate post and your comments on it that made me realize how intensely angry I am about Harper, and go looking for what was happening here. Thanks.

Murkowski is just on the cutting edge of politics. Thanks to the Supreme Court, all of our politicians will be sponsored by big corporations. Agra will own them in the corn belt, Insurance in New England. We’ll never be able to put this genie back in the bottle.

Even if you could get an initiative on the ballot, it would be killed by advertising attacks paid for by the corporations. Forget referendums. The only one’s you’ll see will be ones that will either cost you more money or cost you a lot of money or ones that just don’t make any difference.

Any regulations that protect us but cost corporations money will be eliminated. We’ll get clear cutting, our mountaintops will be leveled. And they’ll drill for oil everywhere. And they won’t pay for any leases. Not for the oil, not for grazing or timber on government land. It will be a free for all with free being the operative word. And corporate taxes will be lowered and lowered while ours will go up. It won’t do any good to vote them out of office. The next corporate sponsored guy will be just as bad or worse.

If Bristol Palin gets up at 4:30 to got to work all day, and she returns in time to bathe her son before he goes to bed, where does she work? Where does she go to school? Does she have co-workers and/or classmates? Does she work for minimum wage, or does her LLC have an office.

This illusion of “just like us” middle-classness has got to go. Gee. If I had a baby at home and revenue from magazine articles and revenue from my mother’s book, I would spend all of my time with my baby. If I had a daughter who was a single mother, I would do everything I could to make sure that she had the chance to be as much of a full time mother as possible. I always imagine that being “pro life” and having “family values” had some relationship to doing the mother thing with integrity because it benefits both the child (or children–in the case of Trig) and the mother. Time is much more valuable than money when it comes to child development.

Why does Bristol compromise this precious time of mother-son bonding when she doesn’t have to. Her mother is a millionaire, and Bristol lives at home. Family values? I don’t think so.

I would imagine, given the size of Wasilla, that people would know where she worked, if she does indeed work. There are limited possibilities for a person with a high school diploma in the workforce, especially in a small town. My small town seems to have the same possibilities for work as Wasilla: Walmart and other big box stores, calling centers, and fast food restaurants.

Bristols face is really showing the tanning bed, wow.

Depressed since her baby was born, all alone… someone needs to smack her. She’s a single mom, lives in a million dollar house, drives a car that cost 60K. Now she wants $1750 a month? Oh poor baby, who could live on less? Boo effin hoo. Give Levi joint custody and get over it. Better yet, give him full custody and she can pay him $1750 a month.

As far as giving sex advise, this girl needs to STFU. I hate anti-sex crusades. Give kids accurate information and let them know where to find birth control. They’ll will choose either way. But this tootsie is no example.

If real change is to be made, it needs to be made either by the right type of legislation or by constitutional amendment. Internet signatures serve little more than a feel good act which is ignored by those who ought to be paying attention. Get those people out there going door-to-door to collect real signatures for a real act of the people: change the constitution to clarify who really has rights as a person.

——

No.

And I’ll use the Kennedy family as an example.

The Kennedy’s almost always enjoyed strong support except for the Palm Beach matter and Joe Kennedy’s attempt to have his 1st marriage annulled a few years after his wife had twins.

Over the years, various Kennedy’s have had serious run-ins with the law. We are not talking a little bit of under-aged drinking (of which there continues to be much from the Kennedy clan) but of murder (of Martha Moxley), statutory rape (Michael) and serious drunk use (David). Joan Kennedy was a serious drunk for decades but had the support of many.

That the Palin kids do a bit of the under-age drinking is minor compared to some of the more serious stuff that’s gone on with other political families and will not cause any great ripples – probably even fewer ripples than the Bush twins and their bar-hopping escapades.

I’m not suggesting we keep quiet about it, but it’s not going to get any of the palinistas to turn on the family or reconsider their mindless suppport of s’error.

You beat me to it. I share your admiration for Elizabeth Warren, but will say that had it not taken a political crisis – or at least the perception of one – for PObama to take an inclusive view of her ideas, that crisis would likely never have existed. She embodies the ideals and middle-class populism that got him elected and that he could have sustained, yet I have to wonder if she (or her ideas) would have ever been invited to the White House if Brown had not won in MA.

I’ve linked the second part of her appearance w/ Jon Stewart last April. In it, she clarifies why sound financial regulation is necessary and why the Republicans’ stand on deregulation is so foolishly conceived better than anyone else I’ve ever heard address the topic.

* ** * ** * ** * ** * ** * ** * ** * ** *
This total hypocrisy is always shoved under the rug by right-to-lifers as are any inconvenient stances on Death Penalty, decisions on end-of-life care (DNR orders, etc.), even the issue of if taking a life is OK in the military, or as a police officer, whether we have the right to use deadly force in and in what circumstances. The issue is not whether abortion is the termination of a life – it is. The issue is, under what legal circumstances, what situations, do we consider that the taking of that life is legal? And what do we do to punish those that break the law in this regard?

And since it is we who makes the laws, it’s a pretty important point.

However, pro-lifers keep throwing the word ‘moral’ into the argument and that’s where we will never agree. Their morality says terminating a fetus is wrong under any conditions. My morality says bring an unwanted child into this word is wrong under any conditions. Their morality says sex before marriage should never happen. My morality says that since we are getting married much later and going through puberty much earlier, the idea of no sex before marriage is absolutely unrealistic, and the only moral thing to do is everything in our power to teach our children – both young women AND MEN – about the importance of their birth control and reproductive health options.

I could go on and on. But yes, the position that government regulation is good when it keeps people having poor babies, yet bad when it wants to spend government money on health care for that poor baby, I just don’t get.

Oh, and don’t even get me started on adoption. My morality says as long as there is one child in the country (heck, we can make it world now) who has been orphaned and needs parents, those who want to raise children but have not been able to have one of their own should adopt them first. I should not be forced to carry a child just because someone refuses to adopt an older child. The people who say “oh just give it up for adoption” are using that as a convenient excuse to try to ram their ideology down our throats while not taking responsibility for what that means, which, btw pro-lifers, is a huge and massive Big Government that, yep, you guessed it, you pay for.

Every truly pro-life pro-lifer should happily agree to tax increases to help the kids in these orphanages and in foster care. They should be championing health care reform for all. A few of them probably do. That’s why this issue is a divisive one because it is not about a political philosophy – it is about what each of us feels is morally right and our reasons for thinking so. I am one who dropped out of the Republican party when I kept getting called a Liberal just because I am pro-choice.

Aw nuts, I got me started.

In her TV interviews, Bristol comes across as robotic in her answers. Push a button, get a programmed response. When questioned further, there is no elaboration, just the same line spoken again.

If she is indeed clinically depressed, I feel for her. Been there, done that but I had an amazingly supportive husband, other family and friends who got me through, not just with lip service but in “down in the trenches” help.

I keep feeling that Bristol was punished for getting pregnant, i.e., forced to not only HAVE, but KEEP the baby. That’s a lot for a young person to process. “Choice” is a wonderful thing because it gives you control over what happens. If someone is telling you that you have no choice, you feel “trapped”.

And while Levi is getting paid to look buff, Bristol’s only schtick is being a teenage, unwed mom. I’d be depressed, too.

She brings attention to the weirdest things, like wearing chenille bedspreads to book signings and quasi military hats. Her penchant for wearing those stupid plastic black boots last year (until the David Letterman slutty flight attendant joke, which we all knew she took more seriously than any comments made about her kids). That woman does not have, nor has any ability to develop, an ounce of class.

Funny thing is – she was a big fish in a small pond ONLY because she was putting herself out there as a politician. We know how brutal idiots can be if their politicians, esp. woman, aren’t handsome or pretty, though most aren’t (which is a good thing in my view). Now that she’s just another celebrity (and mockable one at that), she’s lost her distinction and she’s desperate to find it again.

If I had looked at myself in the mirror with that ugly hairdo, I would not have been able to stop laughing. Then the mirror would break, and that would be the clue to do something else in front of a camera. She’s trying to stay edgy and fresh, and I’m finding it quite humorous. It’s not a fun road to go down, and she’s stuck on it. Prepare for more!

41 nswfm, yes I saw Demint. But don’t jest about “republic”. A certain sect of the baggers insist that we are a “Republic” and get very testy if anyone calls us a democracy.

The host, can’t remember his name, got DeMint good when he asked about foreign corporations ability to now campaign. He got the deer in the headlights look and stated he hadn’t studied the full impact of the decision. Hope this gets picked up by KO and Rachel, maybe HP too. The laws of unintended consequences at work? These guys just never think about the end results of their sound bites.

45 Desert –I think that Obama created a large economic team. I also think that it was a 2 part team. One group was regarded as the tactical group charged with stopping the collapse from the Fall of 2008–the Bushie Economic Bomb. The second group was a strategic team of advisors led by Volker and Warren. It is the job of these guys to take a longer and strategic view of the mess created by 3 decades of Reagenonomics and make long term recommendations to get us back on a path of real economic growth.

The method of tactical and strategic teams is a common one used in corporate reorganization. In a time of crisis, sometimes the least evil foxes are the best one to have in charge of the hen house since they know the corrupt system the best and know tactically how to stop the “bleeding”. However, long term you have to fix the systemic problems. With something as complex as our economy you do need to take some time to come up with a good plan.

I think the core of the problem is that Wall Street stop investing in the growth of American business with the pop of the tech bubble. Anybody remember “venture capital”? It was the life blood of sillycon valley.

With deregulation Wall Street figured out that they no longer needed to invest in real business growth; but rather,
they could just plan math games and make a lot more money by shifting the market up and down.

This is a good review of a book about the quants who destroyed investment in US business. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704509704575019032416477138.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLETopStories

A note on reading this stuff. Please don’t let any math heads get in the way of understanding the basic message. Deregulation allowed the gamblers to take over the economy from real investors who want to grow our economy.

To me the big question is: How do we reform the financial system to encourage the investment of our savings into viable, profitable businesses that create jobs for Americans.

Here’s an interesting little tidbit.

Foreign language classes are being eliminated in public schools ….except Chinese.

In fact, Chinese language instruction is actually being subsidized by the Chinese government.

Long shot? Conspiracy theory? Do I need a tin foil beanie?

Well, I’ve connected the dots on longer shots than this.

While in general I’m no futurist, but sometimes I am frighteningly spot on. The only reason I don’t get credit for it is it takes years for my predictions to finally show up.

Like George Bush leading American to Fascism. Took about 9 years for that one to become clear. Last week was the final piece.

I’ve been reading a lot of Orwell the last few days. He was a socialist and in the 30s wrote about the dangers of Fascism in the U.K. He considered communism and capitalism two sides of the same coin leading to Fascism.

Given a choice, I’ll take a socialism over fascism. And I think you can create a socialistic democracy allowing capitalism. We don’t have it here and it looks like we never will. I am truly frightened of the direction this country is going. It will take years to identify exactly how much damage has been done. But by then…it will be too late. I think we’ve left Robert Paxton’s third stage of Fascism and entered the fourth stage.

I retire in six years. I’m seriously considering becoming an expat. I just haven’t identified where I’ll relocate to. Canada, Germany and Costa Rica are tops on the list so far.

I love it there. Lovely people, beautiful country, great beaches, mountains, cloud forest, rain forest. It does have it’s drawbacks – unpaved terrifying roads that cling to the sides of steep mountains, Pizza Hut and Burger King are making inroads – yuck, insane drivers. We spent one night in San Juan and wouldn’t recommend staying there. But everywhere else was wonderful.

Either there or Paris. Their health care is first rate! I know for a fact – my bro-in-law has lived there for 35 years. The cost of having their daughter four years ago = $0; the cost of home visits so my SIL could rest or nap or whatever = $0. The cost of the child’s creche (daycare) = $0. Can we top that? No, I didn’t think so. Yes they pay high taxes, but they gain so many benefits from it.

I posted this on the forum but I am reposting it here.

I just saw a few brief clips of the interview. While I am disappointed that Oprah continues to give Mrs. Palin any time at all, I thought Oprah made a very good point about Bristol’s plan of abstinence until marriage. While that is all very well and good to proclaim abstinence, and I most certainly am not advocating teenagers going out and having sex whenever the opportunity is presented to them, but if that was Bristol’s decision, then it should be a private decision.

That is going to be one hard promise to keep and as Oprah said, she is only setting herself up for further heartache when someone eventually spills the beans. I felt sorry for Bristol, she looked absolutely miserable and she hadn’t two words to say for herself. What boy is even going to want to date her at this point? It is no wonder she is depressed, what sort of future does she have to look forward to?

I am enraged with Mrs Palin. What sort of mother does this to her daughter? First she humiliated Bristol in September ’08 in front of the world….and she hasn’t stopped since then. When will they have the good sense to STFU about Bristol’s sex life?

I have teenagers and I couldn’t begin to imagine the damage I would do to them by discussing their sex-life in public. Stuff like that should be private…the world does not want to know.

On another note, the pair of them looked liked clowns on Oprah’s show. Sarah’s hair was….. well whenever I need a laugh…I just look at that clip. Bristol had on way too much makeup and looked strange.

So yes, I agree with FREE BRISTOL NOW.

“A week or two before the three days of formal debate camp started on September 29, the campaign put him through his paces in a mock run-through against Anita Dunn. She played the part by reading from a script assembled almost entirely out of verbatim Palin quotes. That’s too incoherent, Biden exclaimed. Is that really what she says? No, that can’t be her answer. But, I mean, she’s not saying anything. How am I supposed to respond to that, folks? (P 406)”

sauerkraut – yes, you’re right, Internet petitions are not real petitions and one cannot just sign one and act like they’ve done all that needs to be done, but I think the symbolism of the numbers is important.

One of the memes we keep hearing over and over is “The American people don’t want this health care bill” or “this health care reform” and the two get equated in their minds. They think Death Panels and Single-Payer Scary Socialist Medicine is in there. So when polled (and we all know that clever pollsters can ask a question in such a way to to most likely get the response they want), surprise, surprise. Then the results are broadcast dar and wide and the meme becomes ‘the truth’.

Yet I know that nearly 100% of Americans are unhappy about something about their health care and want change. So it is a lie to say “Most Americans do not want health care reform”.

Anyway, the point is, the online petitions, as imperfect as they can be, still give an indication of relative support for something. Those numbers need to get into the millions or we’ll see the right wing talking heads spin this thing the same way – It’s a victory for free speech, dontchaknow? Who could be against that except Pinko Commie Socialists?

And that’s why I posted the info and links and hope y’all will also BUT will also urge people to keep on top of this, write their reps and tell them how important it is for them to support Grayson’s bills, continue to talk to people in the grocery stores and standing in line at the DMV… And yes, volunteering to get real signatures on real petitions will be necessary for the Amendment that would come flatly down and say “No, Supreme Court Justices, limiting corp. money influence in elections is in fact constitutional”.

There are actually reasons why we might not want to go with that amendment, but since the amendment process takes so long and must be ratified by all 50 states, we may as well let the process get started now. Remember what happened with the Equal Right Amendment?

But it is ridiculous to think that there is NO constitutional proscriptions for regulating or limiting how a corporation or an individual, for that matter, can spend money in matters related to public elections. What’s next? Are people going to be able to carry banners for their candidate right up to the doors of a polling place? Are they going to be allowed to shout “Vote for Smith” with bullhorns in the polling place? At what point do we say the right to have an election free of intimidation trumps people’s right to free speech? Aren’t the examples I gave above just as much of an abridgment of personal free speech as corps. not being able to run ads 30 days prior to a primary elections?

The Supreme Court basically threw the Regulation Baby out with the Free Speech bath water.

And dumped it all over the American voter.

Did anyone else watch Jim DeMint on This Week?
…since they can’t seem to say “Democratic.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The moment he started speaking, I lunged for my remote and hit the mute button. I did try to listen when Terry Moran would ask a question, then shut off the sound when DeMint answered. Unfortunately, the sound WAS on when he said ‘democrat agenda’. Jeez, that makes me skin crawl!
I also cringed when he said that PO created more debt on his first year than Bush did in eight. (I had captioning on so I read that part!) Sure, that’s easy to do when you just don’t include some of your largest areas of spending, including TWO WARS!!! Hey, Jim, don’t forget that Georgie went from a large surplus to record deficits WITHOUT including the cost of both wars, AND was the person who signed the first stimulus bill. Kinda convenient to just rewrite history, isn’t it? I’m no math scholar but even
I also liked how Moran asked him about the foreign influence on elections through corporate donations, which he tried to dodge. I can’t imagine how Congress can write laws that can effectively limit political donations to American companies. Because some corporations have many well-hidden layers of control, sometimes it’s very hard to accurately determine just WHO is in charge. Even corporations that may seem to be controlled by Americans might actually be run by foreign entities. As we all know, many companies that have always been American-owned have been bought out by foreign companies in the past few years. Just because the CEO may be an American citizen, that doesn’t mean it’s not run by someone in another country.
Truly scary to think how everyone EXCEPT the American people will now have power to control our government. So much for ‘government of the people, by the people, for the people’.
Oh come on now………..the hairdo was absolutely PERFECT!
It suited far better than anything I have ever seen.
It was just like “Nellie Olson” from Little House on the Prairie…remember her?
The laws of unintended consequences at work?
In regard to the supremes decision.
Exxon, the Saudis, China, who ever are the richest national or international businesses can put their candidates in every office in every state from dog catcher on up.
I doubt that is really what the supremes had in mind –
or was it?
The best financed candidate almost always wins,so maybe somebody needs to ask the faciest five just what their vision of American is.
@Martha 94: Lol! I so agree!
I think she sported that crazy “do” just to deflect from anything the media would say about her politics, this insane interview, and anything else negative she perceives the gotcha media was out to get her for. It backfired, because now everyone is not only making fun of her hair, they are still bashing her for all the things she knows are true.
All in all this week push comes to shove. And shove we should. lest we get pushed over the edge. Two things i feel need to be the center of any move forward is stop the Imperial wars and sideline the Rebiblican corporatists who are bent on taking over the US government. We can do allot of good under a small banner. Learn as much as you can now before it’s to late. Short of violence it’s what we can do best.
What boy is even going to want to date her at this point?
What male or female would be crazy enough to want to marry into that family?
Living on top of a fire ant mound would be less painful and less stressful.
Hugs all around!!!
I am just online and haven’t read comments yet, but my Anonymous Bloggers subscription just ‘pinged’ in, and Ann has a new post up on domestic violence Alaskan Village style. Mudpups, together, we are a force. Help me think on what we can do together. PRAYER, of course. And VOTES!
Here is the letter I just sent to her in response. Help me think on this. As a ‘Think-tank’ we can’t be beat. (We are talking about violence here, and I just used the word ‘beat.’ I changed it, because I didn’t want to use the word ‘beat’ when writing about violence – then I thought – CAN’T be beat. O.K., I’ll use it!) Here’s my letter:
Ann,
Thanks so much for keeping us in the loop regarding these serious problems. At least then you can know that you few are not alone, and that you are circled by many many prayers from all around the world. Look at the Mudflats map and think of all those ‘balloons’ as prayers.
As bad as hunger and cold are, we can at least feel that we are helping you (plural) by sending food or money or adopting a family. We receive so much from you in so many ways and the exchange is mutual.
Environmental programming that has gone on for generations is not an easy thing to change. Money and fuel won’t do it. As we all know, some politicians want to help and some don’t. So, I suppose, in the long run, one solution is to find a way to gather forces and vote in political leaders who will see that there are funds and manpower to provide police and other civic improvements. In that sense, you are already doing the tremendous job of making us aware so that energy for these changes can begin to gather.
I am thinking on this and will write again. You are so loved, bless you for all you do, and give those little girls a cuddle for me.
I didn’t get to read this thread until later in the afternoon today, but I had to laugh when I read the posts about turning Scarah’s books around. The hubby and I were in Sam’s yesterday and I noticed there were about 30 of “the books” displayed there. I stopped and started turning them around. Hubby thought I was a little nuts for awhile there until I explained what I was doing. Then he got a good laugh out of it and said, “Are there any more?”
(1) I get considerable enjoyment when I visit the Sonora Walmart (sadly, Sonora doesn’t have bookstores) from putting copies of Quatty’s and Becky’s books in my shopping cart and then transporting them to the air-filter aisle. Call me cheap, but it gives me a mild buzz.
(2) I am, of course, a big fan of Alan Grayson. But the petition thing basically says “I support the Save our Democracy platform”, with some following verbiage about government of, by, and for the people. If that’s all it is, it’s just a Grayson honeytrap. I signed it, but I think we heed something a little more specific.
– a somewhat old (November ’09) article, but great food for thought as we await the State of the Union address and contemplate the challenges of the coming year:
“Liberal Elitism Will Make Sarah Palin President – How Only Union Organizing Can Stop It”
by Mike Elk – Campaign for America’s Future
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-elk/liberal-elistism-will-mak_b_355249.html
“……Liberals still treat Palin and the right-wing populist Tea Party Movement that she leads as “white trash.” They spend more time attacking them as “stupid racists” than actually trying to win them over and address their concerns. It’s as if liberals are saying we know better than you stupid working-class people….”
the damn things those conservatives say!!! I like this paragraph about “them” THINKING they have a monopoly on Christianity.
from Mother Jones:http://motherjones.com/mojo/2010/01/sc-republican-plan-starve-poor-stop-breeding
“It amazes me how some Republican politicians claim a monopoly on Christianity and then go out and say and do some of the most un-Christian things imaginable,” said Charleston attorney Mullins McLeod, who participated in a candidates forum in Columbia along with Bauer Saturday. “… Bauer’s comments are despicable and the total opposite of the Christian values Bauer espouses.”
Great article Pants on Fire! I had to copy and paste it into Word and increase the font size, but was well worth it. It’s not about Sarah…. it is about people being willing to vote for a person about whom they have done no research, have no expectations other than “not him (Murkowski)”, and still expect to get a great leader.
Maybe because I only received the right to vote a few years back, I take this privilege very seriously and spend quite a bit of time researching candidates and their stance on topics of interest. My candidate does not always prevail, but at least I feel that I made an informed choice.
I have been very vigilant in ensuring that my kids also vote and take this right seriously as it is their children who will reap the benefits, or not, down the line.
Are kids in school being taught about voting rights and how to understand what is being said in campaigns? I fear not and thus our future could be jeopardized by the failure of our teachers – or the school boards that set educational policies and goals. If Texas is the lead for history studies and social studies, we are doomed :(
