I’ve had some busy weeks lately and haven’t been able to get out and take many pictures lately, so I decided to raid the archives. Here’s a shot of Buf the dog’s cousin from last summer. He’s about the size of a half a loaf of bread.
Don’t forget to stock up on munchies for the State of the Union tonight!

I used to have a little one that looked just like her. She was one brave dog, even chased a raccoon twice her size up a tree one night. I still miss her smiling face.
Cute Pic, AKM!
Just when you think you’ve heard it all department. I just read that some “prophet” in Texas is pointing out that the word “again” in Greek is Palin (pronounced as “pahlin”), and is trying to make some messianic message out of this. Good Gawd, that’s all the Christian Conservative Right needs.
I speak Greek, and never once made that connection! So, what message, mudpups? She’ll run again, make a fool of herself again, throw friends under the bus again? Let’s hear what you think!
very cute
Cute pic, AKM.
@tigerwine: all of the above, in answer to your question. That is, unless her current speaking gig is a complete bust and the Republicans and tea party folks realize that she’s not golden after all.
As for the State of the Union, I’m almost afraid to watch. I had so hoped that this would be a strong step forward, calling the Republicans to play nice and quit running with scissors, so to speak, but it doesn’t sound like it will be.
Wow, cute dog.
I like little size animal than big one, little one is more lovely.
The bets are on, who yell out “Liar!” first?
Little dogs freak me out, they move so fast and yap and their tongues lick at you 2500 miles per second. Weird, ’cause we have 3 really big dogs and they don’t scare me at all!
As far as the self proclaimed prophet from TX, another Palin lovin’ wackjob. And I love how these crazy folks can find any excuse in some holy text. Strangle kittens? It’s in blah blah 6:12. Beat kids, right there. Magic underwear in blah blah 12. It never ends.

Gak. I hadn’t thought of that! I feel sick just thinking about it.
I give up were are fluff balls ears?
Amy, look for what Repobot reaches for his beeper. That’s what Wilson did last year right before the yell. He was so stupid he needed prompting. Also look for the TV orange face make up. Wilson’s was orange but his hands were white. And the two reps next to him were not orange.
#2 @tigerwine
Umm, they seem to miss the FACT that Palin is her MARRIED name? So shouldn’t that mean the it’s TAHD who is the second coming? Duh.
That is just the cutest little fluffball. Is he an American Eskimo or a Pomeranian? I can never tell the difference. My neighbor has four American Eskimos. They are non-stop bundles of energy!
#5 @Paula
LOL about the tongue going a mile a minute! I always tell people that my little Pug dog can’t hold her licker! : )

What in the world has Greek got to do with Sarah? Sarah is a Christian and Christ spoke Aramaic or a dialect of it and certainly did not speak Greek, though probably everyone in that neck of the wood spoke some Latin.
Did I ever tell you guys that I saw the Vrigin Mary every night as I went to bed when I was in Maine?
I did!
Really.
Or it was a ghost, or demon.
Or most likely it was the way a fence post lined up with the way the back lit curtain swaged, in my neighbors trailer, thus creating an image, if seen from the right angle, of a hooded or robed dark figure with just enough light on the cross bar of the window to look like folded, or reaching, hands.
An overly devout superstitious, and foolish Christian see the Virgin, a fool would see a devil or angle of death, and I saw a fence post and a lighted curtained window.
So often the fools get the attention.
Buf’s cousin is the perfect little pup! I only like dogs that look like cats.
I don’t recall whether it was Mary or Jesus, but someone was trying to sell their image on a piece of toast on Ebay awhile back. I’m telling you people are getting really squirrely .
Good morning! I have been wrapping up the most idiotic pile of old business and trying to get ready to visit friends in Anchorage. I have been reading everyday, but have had no time to respond. This was in this morning’s “St. Louis Post-Dispatch” and I thought it was appropriate to post here. The word is out!
http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/the-platform/published-editorials/2010/01/if-congress-cant-lead-it-should-get-out-of-the-way/
Here is a bit of it:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is moving forward with plans to regulate greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.
At the same time, Congress — a leading source of hot air — is debating a resolution that would strip the EPA of its authority to act.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, says she wants to prevent “federal bureaucrats” from enacting regulations that would destroy jobs. She has introduced a “resolution of disapproval” that has the support of 35 other Republicans and three conservative Democrats.
A landmark 2007 U.S. Supreme Court ruling gave the EPA authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act and directed the agency to set standards that would limit those releases.
Much of Ms. Murkowski’s rhetoric is just plain wrong. On one point, however, she is absolutely correct: Ideally, Congress — not the EPA — should write rules to limit emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and other heat-trapping gases.
Thanks, jimzmum:
“Much of Ms. Murkowski’s rhetoric is just plain wrong. On one point, however, she is absolutely correct: Ideally, Congress — not the EPA — should write rules to limit emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and other heat-trapping gases.”
I suppose, as Congress is the expert on the nature of hot air, wind bags, and gasses, we should encourage them to rewrite the rules…
I’m just sickened at my “neighbors”. Take a look at this article in my local newspaper. A non-profit Muslim group wants to purchase land in a very rural (and white) part of the state. The loons are out in full force. Shocking!

Awww…! Can we call her ‘Puf’?
Super-cute! I like big dogs, but the little ones can fit on your lap for extra strong lovin’ and snuggling.
#5 @ Paula. You are SO RIGHT – any heinous behavior can be justified with “scripture” depending on the interpretation. I have a relative that likes to point out that Jesus never condemned slavery. I hope you are not surprised that he lives in South Carolina.

@tigerwine- on the word “again”:
Palin in Greek=Again
Again in Palinbabble=Alsotoo.
Example: “I would like to show much appreciation in this great country, in this great land “alsotoo” that as to choose life, rather than, being brought into the arenas of the death panels, but this great nation….as to being led into the Obamacare bailout and takeover of the this up-down goverbureaucrat-ics and with a great appreciation for the media, for the Jawwn McCain but in what respect energy indeeeeependence, drill here drill now “alsotoo”……..and trucks! Wink.
Of course it could also mean “Oh no, “again” with the Facebook posting!
—
@Paula-on who will yell “You lie” first, or something like it, maybe they’ll make McCain do it this time since he’s the new self-proclaimed king of the GOP. Or maybe he, Lieberman and “Butters” will do something in unison. All kidding aside, I’m really just dreading it. Just the anticipation of something like that happening is cringe-worthy. Maybe nothing will happen, but right now I think the GOP smells blood and they’re just getting started. Fingers crossed.
@R’ipley in CT–that’s horrible about the cemetary. I hope cooler heads prevail!
I have never liked Pomeranians. Don’t know why. I love dogs, but something about them rubs me the wrong way.
AZ scenario: McCain wins primary, other guy gets miffed and goes Independent. Conservatives split. Dem wins.
AZ scenario #2 Crackpot wins. Sensible Repubs vote Dem. (This guy is really scary, and, yes, there are moderate, sensible Repubs out there.) Dems win.
You heard it here first!

“Much of Ms. Murkowski’s rhetoric is just plain wrong. On one point, however, she is absolutely correct: Ideally, Congress — not the EPA — should write rules to limit emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and other heat-trapping gases.”
I think the keyword in Sen “Show-Me-The-Money” Murkowski’s statement is ideally. Yes, in an ideal world where our politicians could be counted on to act intelligently and responsibly, I would agree they should have such regulatory authority. But given that we already know that is not the case in general, and in particular that Murkowski is motivated to wrest control from the scientists at EPA by the bundles of campaign cash industry lobbyists have been stuffing in her pockets – the same lobbyists who wrote the bill she introduced – for her to now claim that Congressional regulation in any way represents a noble ideal is beyond disingenuous. No matter how she tries to couch her position, Murkowski is a paid advocate for industry standing in opposition to sound environmental regulation – personal integrity, the noble ideal of responsible governance, and environmental consequences be damned.

LOL @ the prophet and the Greek words! It’s straight out of the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. It’s a running joke throughout the movie that the dad is always telling everyone that every name or word comes from the Greek language and then he makes the connections. In one scene, his daughter’s friend challenges him with the word kimono and he comes up with a Greek word that’s similar. Funny stuff. Too bad some reporter listening to this nut didn’t make the connection and bring it up.
Cute little furball puppy, AKM!
I love dogs and cats, but the wee small ones, I’m always afraid will wind up under my klutzy size 10s. Not a good thing!

Hi- sent in an email no response. can you tell me if Palin votes as a conservative or a moderate when in Alaska?????
MonaLisa, I may join you for a live blog of the SOTU. Whether or not I do, I wish all who congregate here health and peace.
Ok, so, I looked up “Heath”, SP’s maiden name, and my favorite definition was:
heath /hiθ/
–noun 1. a tract of open and uncultivated land; wasteland overgrown with shrubs.
I think it kinda fits.
From what McCain claims people should be afraid that his opponent isn’t conservative and is lying about how he votes and will side with the liberals. My take is they are both the same and will say whatever to get elected.
Is it just me or is the alignment of text and photos not lining up as it should? I have noticed some little things that have changed since the site update a few days ago.
The last line of the post:

is within the frame of the photo .
Just wondering.
And then when I looked up “palin” (at dictionary.com), here’s what came up:
No results found for palin:
Did you mean plain?
Laurie, I think it’s just you. My screen looks fine.
Laurie, I see the last line of the post within the frame of the photo, too. I didn’t notice until you mentioned it. The letters are so small and the green so dark, but it’s there. Weird.

So far, looks like a giant I phone (or Steve Jobs has gotten smaller…)
I’m maybe looking forward to it as it’s will be an electronic reader; I do love paper books though….
If anyone else resides with an Apple ubergeek you will understand the significance of the announcement today and the tension that has been building leading up to today. People have been living on comment boards speculating for weeks on what this thing might look like and what sort of tasks it might perform…(these people are sort of like the Mudpups of the geek world, some even seem to cross over into the actual Mudpup world as well.)

Still don’t know what they will cost. Anyway, thought I’d share for those who care.

Here is a very good piece on how ACORN was setup and railroaded by the right wing.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-atlas/acorn-is-back-in-the-news_b_438324.html
Many commenter are suggesting that we write to our local outlets demanding that they correct the current AP stories since ACORN was not found to have committed any fraud.
For a more in depth understanding the following academic paper is an excellent read.
http://departments.oxy.edu/uepi/acornstudy/acornstudy.pdf#search=%22oxy%20report%20on%20acorn%22
It details how the right manipulated the public agenda against ACORN. ACORN was one of the first groups to raise the alarms about the subprime mortgage scams. The also were to active in fighting for fair wages and treatment for the lowest paid workers.
BTW, that shameful Congressional censure was overturned in court in December. It just was lightly reported.
With Watergate South in the news it is time to shine the light on just how ACORN was unfairly trashed by the right wing noise machine.
My take away from the paper is that all the “news” does now is report various opinions but they have lost the ability to investigate for the facts.
I’m seriously thinking of writing a 20-minute one act musical about a multi-generational conspiracy theory in which the recent SCOTUS decision is key. Sounds crazy I can do that in 20 minutes with music but I bet I can! Anyway, the first musical number will definitely be called “Checks & Balances” and will probably do more to educate people on how our system works than Fox News could ever do. Think “Schoolhouse Rock”.
Other songs/titles I’m considering are “Worth the Wait”, “Who Shall Lead the Sheep?”, “The Court of Public Opinion”, “Timing is Everything”, and my personal favorite for the big (for big, read “only”) dance number, “Activist Judge”.
As much as I’d like to see this be produced somewhere – anywhere – before the Nov. elections, it can’t happen if I don’t get my butt seriously in gear. I have one other project which deserves my attention first plus my partial Day Job (which I love – teaching Music Appreciation).
The irony is, the very same SCOTUS decision I am decrying is going to allow this and all kinds of other projects to be funded at heretofore only dreamed of amounts, and be produced and released within the 60- and 30-day limits running up to elections that are so crucial to how a voter chooses.
And be able to secure corporate money for running ads to increase audiences.
I encourage artists of all kinds to start making your own political speech pieces. Then find like-minded corporations, unions, non-profits, to partner with you in getting the word out.
If all the ‘ intelligent ‘ Republicans did not believe the quotes from Steve Schmidt in the ” Game Change ” book, ( GOP ) Henry Paulson, former Treasury Secretary under Bush is out schilling his book as well.
He is not ‘ too kind ‘ to SP. Quote from the Huffpo story.
—————————————
“And he takes a shot at Sarah Palin, describing how McCain excitedly put her on the phone with Paulson. Palin annoyed Paulson by continually calling him “Hank” and did not seem knowledgeable of the issues:”
“Right away she started calling me Hank… But for some reason, the way she said it over the phone like that, even though we’d never met, rubbed me the wrong way. I’m also not sure she grasped the full dimensions of the situation I had sketched out – or so some of her comments made me think.”
Well Gee John. Maybe you should have put her on the phone with a High School Civics Teacher first to explain to her about North and South Korea before moving up to the Federal Level..those ” Washington Elite “…ya think?

Oops… to quick with the finger. forgot the Link.

Click the big blue ” Listen Live “
Here’s more on the irresponsible reporting of O’Keefe’s original videos slandering ACORN –
“The videos that have been released appear to have been edited, in some cases substantially, including the insertion of a substitute voice-over for significant portions of Mr. O’Keefe’s and Ms. Giles’s comments, which makes it difficult to determine the questions to which ACORN employees are responding. A comparison of the publicly available transcripts to the released videos confirms that large portions of the original video have been omitted from the released versions.”
Further, the Harshbarger report reinforced criticism of the mainstream media’s handling of the ACORN story, including the way CNN played the “prostitution scandal” videotapes over and over again. The mainstream press has continuously botched the ACORN story by repeating rather than fact-checking the allegations.
For example, the Associated Press story about Harshbarger’s report, published in the Washington Post and other newspapers, didn’t mention that the conservative videographers rebuffed attempts by Harshbarger to interview them and refused to permit him to review the unedited tapes so he could compare the raw footage with versions that were released. Most major news outlets, which went overboard reporting the ACORN video “scandal,” did not even mention the report.

When the asshats in Boston get rid of the bigger asshat currently assigned to New Hampshire, then I’ll consider what these Bishops say. But until the honcho’s who run the Catholic Church stop turning a blind eye to the years of child abuse by priests, then all I can say to them is “go pound sand.”
I addressed the subject a couple of days ago after reading a Boston Globe article on one particular enabler of sexual abuse by priests.

Well, okay. errata. Until he ran for governor of MA. And he’s a nutmeg quaker… always thought he was from PA. Learned something new today.
I sure hope that the mishandling of the whole ACORN story becomes a major news story itself. It’s time to call out the MSM for their lack of fact checking.
It would give a lot of credibility to any news organization that stands up and admits their mistakes on how they handled this.

A fan from CA — It’s perhaps to our own detriment that we still have not adjusted our expectations of the MSM. It is frequently revealed that their role is now often played out as stenographers rather than journalists.
Also disturbing is the lack of defense of ACORN from the Dems. It really appears that the Right has intimidated them into simply ducking when the Right gets noisy – no matter how disingenuous their anger.

I am in no way defending the TX idiot about Palin’s name. However, Jesus did speak Greek. Greek was the international language of that time, the Romans spoke it. Yes, the Israelites spoke Aramaic in everyday conversation, but the New Testament books were all written in Koine Greek. Also, if you read the gospels in the Greek, you will see that Jesus was quite the punster. My hubby is a pastor who reads Koine Greek, and I studied it in college, too.
