I just love things like that ! ( ‘ cept I have a tough time hearing that song ever since a barbershop quartet sang it at my aunt’s funeral 2 years ago and caused an emotional meltdown of the entire church. )

It’s mesmerizing and just so flippin’ creative.

Strange thing. It’s 7am, I’m at the desk, no one else is home but I smell cigarettes. I don’t smoke. My son quit 6 months ago and when he did smoke it was never in the house. There are no windows open. Can’t figure it out ! ( it’s only the smell of burnt toast that’s a stroke warning , right ????? )

Off to start the ” ta do ” list, just in case.

I saw this on http://www.breepalin about Sarah Pac’s expenditures. They did donate to several candidates nationally but the largest expenditure was…wait for it…Sarah’s book tour:

“It appears that SarahPAC paid out a large chunk of change to pay for the book tour.

“For the relevant time period, SarahPAC paid out:
    $13,000 for bus wrap
$60,000 to NorthStar Strategies in Alexandria, Virginia, for logistics/advance
    $27,280 for private jets
$6519 to Harper Collins for travel expenses
$25,930.25 total to Shealah Craighead for her traveling photographic services

That’s a total of $132,729.25 in just the most obvious large expenditures that went toward the book tour. A book tour to drive money straight in to Mrs. Palin’s pocket. “

Scott Brown is on This Week , being interviewed by Barbara Walters. I’ll tell ya – so far he hasn’t made me wince or need to throw something at the television. He doesn’t strike me as an extreme wingnut. The vibe I’m getting is that he’s a Conservative but a moderate. He speaks well. Seems measured and reflective. Doesn’t seem to be only spouting talking points. I don’t agree with him on a number of points but he’s not making me sick.

I wish you all a happy New Year of the Trees. Deep winter, now. Still winter. But the days are getting longer, and the trees are starting to wake up.

My tribe celebrates by planting trees, by feasting on fruits of many trees, by telling stories, and by feeding the Tree of Life with deeds of loving kindness for our planet and all the creatures here. (Waving to MoosePucky)

When I was just a littlebird, Grandmother taught me that we are ALL brothers and sisters under the sun and the moon. We feed the Tree of Life and the Tree of Life feeds us. What a wonderful symbiosis. Thank you, brothers and sisters, for Feeding the Tree of Life.

Also, ThatCrowWoman – thank you for your sharing about trees. I grew up living a few feet from Chief Sagoyewatha’s original burial spot. There is an old tree at the base of the burial hill and I spent time every day up in the branches , reading, thinking and talking to whomever might be hanging around in the ethers, including Chief Red Jacket. ( or maybe they were just in my head!) I feel I’m in spirit company whenever I’m with trees and to this day go on long walks in the spring so I can say hello as they wake up. As far as Scott Brown being classifed as a RINO in a few months, I doubt it. All of the Republicans seemed to be coerced or pressured or bought off in some way so that they just tow the party line and are sellouts to who they were when they came. They are totally a party of “NO!” and he will very soon be all but indistinguishable from any other Republican.

  32. 32
    LaurieNo Gravatar says:

I still have hope that the people of MA will not tolerate a right wing republican. The republicans in office in MA are moderate. Romney was moderate and socially liberal when elected governor. Since this was a special election, I think Brown is up for re-election in 2012. If he is an obstructionist, right winger, he will likely serve only two years.

    FYI – There’s a Wikipedia entry for “Wingnut” —

*** “Wingnut” (sometimes “wing-nut”) is used in United States politics as a political epithet referring to a person who holds extreme political views. According to Merriam-Webster, it is analogous with the word “radical.” In American politics, the term is more often aimed at members of the political right than those of the political left. The New York Times’ David M. Herszenhorn has defined a “wing nut” as “a loud darling of cable television and talk radio whose remarks are outrageous but often serious enough not to be dismissed entirely” ****

It goes on to say : SEE ALSO : Moonbat

    hahahaha!

  36. 36
A fan from CANo Gravatar says:

The word “wingnut” to me brings up an image of “spinning”. That’s the reason for the wings on the nut. The wings also provide the leverage for giving the nut a final torque at the end to keep it firmly in place.

I seems an apt description of teabaggers, also too. Ailes was so transparent on ABC when he stated “terror” is the number one concern of Americans. Fear is the “final torque” faux will use to keep the nuts in place.

    from the Urban Dictionary
    TOOL

    1. One who lacks the mental capacity to know he is being used. A fool. A cretin. Characterized by low intelligence and/or self-steem.
    4. Someone who is a complete idiot/ one who is used by other people, and usually dosen’t even realize it/ someone who can’t think for themselves/ an asshat.

    Dear thatcrowwoman,

So glad that you flew into a tree closer to the Flats.

You also seem clever and wise as one would expect from the Corvidae. I have a question for you to roll around like one of those shiny objects you are fond of:

When I was a youngbird, I was a hawk with my retina packed with cones. Diurnal, keen-eyed, hawkish, aggressive, sleek feathers in the sun, arrogant even.

Now that I’m older, I’m flying at night, more silent, ruffled feathers, nightwoods hunter, my retina is a place of pilgrimage for rods with nary a cone anymore; maybe still arrogant but rarely the public displays of arrogance in broad daylight anymore. Owlish, in fact.

It all started a few winters ago when a Great Horned Owl took to occupying the exact apex of the roof on my library every night. All winter long, you have never heard such hooting and challenging of the hooting challengers in the woods while I was trying to read my hawkish books.

I know this is a long, drawn out post to get to my short question…..but, in your experience and wisdom, do hawks just turn into owls?

    Sincerely…..

Most of what Sarah Palin says shows her indifference to the truth, and demonstrates how little interest she has in being a serious political figure. By constantly spouting nonsense, Palin displays her lack of respect for her dedicated followers and the American political process as a whole.

There are only two possible explanations for why a person could be as consistently wrong as Palin is. The first, she truly has no idea what she’s talking about. The second, she’s lying.

    You decide.

Subject: Tell CBS: Don’t air anti-abortion Super Bowl ad

    Dear Friend,

The broadcast networks that air the Super Bowl have historically rejected advocacy ads. Yet CBS, which is airing the Super Bowl this year, has accepted an anti-choice ad by the ultra-conservative group Focus on the Family.

Focus on the Family’s “celebrate life” (read: anti-choice) ad features Heisman Trophy-winning college football star Tim Tebow. And CBS approved this anti-choice ad, even though the network has repeatedly rejected advocacy ads in past years including a 2004 MoveOn.org ad that went after then-President Bush’s fiscal irresponsibility and an ad the same year from the United Church of Christ showing them welcoming a gay couple who had been turned away from another church. And they just rejected a comical ad from a gay dating site from this year’s lineup of ads.

So to recap: CBS wouldn’t allow a group to criticize Bush, wouldn’t let a religious group promote its own tolerance of LGBT families and considers a light-hearted dating ad out of bounds. But CBS is perfectly happy to allow Focus on the Family to promote its conservative social agenda.

Join me in calling on CBS to kill the Focus on the Family ad before the Super Bowl on February 7!

Michigander @48 – re: Scott Brown – I heard him a little differently on the Palin response. I think most Repub/Conservative are playing the ” don’t dis Palin” game right now or maybe he was playing the ” don’t knock anyone with an R next to their name because we can’t afford it ” game , but what I heard in response to , “Do you think Sarah Palin has a shot in 2012″ , was – ” yeah , sure , why not ? but there’s room for lots of great people from our party ” ( or something close to that ) He didn’t strike me as a rootin’ tootin’ fan. Struck me that he was just playing things safe.

And re: abortion – I thought he was pro-choice but was ideally in favor of a new middle ground. I can’t remember verbatim but I thought he said he’d like to see number of abortions go down in the US. Maybe he was manipulating words to hide a more extreme meaning but he seemed sincere to me. Then again , it was still early ! I’ll have to go back and watch again. And, thankfully – as Laurie said @31 – he’ll have shown his true colors by 2012 and they’ll vote him out if he’s extreme and obstructionist.

Irishgirl – I agree re: the PAC. something is askew and awry. I await the day that Rev. Muthee’s magic spell of protection wears off and hounds of hell come sniffing for her in earnest.

mlaiuppa – Nope – wasn’t around anyone that was smoking. I can’t stand the smell which is why I would ban my son to the outdoors , no matter the weather. Thank goodness it’s gone away tho!

And y’know, ( re: lovemydogs and CBS) I wouldn’t care if they aired the commercial if they weren’t so hypocritical. They said no to a pro gay commercial ( tho I haven’t seen the details yet ) and I’d bet anything they wouldn’t air a pro-choice. Makes me think they’ve been infiltrated by the extremists with an agenda.

Let me know if it’s worth reading tomorrow !

We always knew that Granny Palin was her own worst enemy.
And a mere 24 hours after she had to disclose her SarahPAC info the connection to those infamous FaceBook Posts that never seem to sound like her in real like has been ‘ exposed ‘. And she did it herself.

You can only keep the LIE hidden for so long before they all catch up with you and you are exposed.
The details and verifiable proof was just posted on Palingates.
I wonder if some of those ‘ Speaking engagements ‘ start to get canceled as well too when they hear the News.
Do they want to pay someone a Fee that will go to some phony company she made up..? Wouldn’t that be like a Co-conspirator in the fraud.

Just so you know….I love your way with words……and would be interested to hear your tribe’s explanation of why a person changes as they grow older.

It happened just the way I related in comment # 41 (although my feathers are admittedly metaphorical.)

It has always been just a matter of time before the money trail caught up to Mrs. Palin. The term “follow the money” is a most prudent and steadfast one, and surely will be her undoing.

Great conversation and full transcript with Congresswoman Schultz about the specifics of how the House is going to hold the reconciliation bill in the House and force the Senate to pass the reconciled version.
    And other things.
Very straight talk. Very little political BS.

    @ # 68 sauerkraut

Tragic story which leaves one speechless at the callousness of bullies.

Peace and oceans of sympathy to Phoebe Wilson’s family….
    —————————————

“Like a lot of kids her age, Phoebe Prince was a swan, always beautiful and sometimes awkward.

Last fall, she moved from Ireland into western Massachusetts, a new town, a new high school, a new country, a new culture. She was 15, when all that matters is being liked and wearing the right clothes and just fitting in.
She was a freshman and she had a brief fling with a senior, a football player, and for this she became the target of the Mean Girls, who decided then and there that Phoebe didn’t know her place and that Phoebe would pay.

Kids can be mean, but the Mean Girls took it to another level, according to students and parents. They followed Phoebe around, calling her a slut. When they wanted to be more specific, they called her an Irish slut.

The name-calling, the stalking, the intimidation was relentless.

Ten days ago, Phoebe was walking home from school when one of the Mean Girls drove by in a car. An insult and an energy drink can came flying out the car window in Phoebe’s direction.

Phoebe kept walking, past the abuse, past the can, past the white picket fence, into her house. Then she walked into a closet and hanged herself. Her 12-year-old sister found her.

You would think this would give the bullies who hounded Phoebe some pause. Instead, they went on Facebook and mocked her in death. (snip)

Last week, Phoebe was supposed to visit Ireland, where she grew up, and she was excited because she was going to see her father for the first time in months.

She did end up going back to Ireland after all, and when her father saw her she was in a casket.”
