Chop Baby, Chop! Palin’s First Campaign Speech.
I’d like to thank a very special “Boots on the Ground” reporter and friend, Mudflatter Geoffrey Dunn. Dunn is finishing up a well-researched book due out this summer titled “The Lies of Sarah Palin.” He’s having a hard time not making this a three-volume set. He told me he’d call in a report after seeing Palin’s speech in Redding, California. Media was barred from the event, so Dunn took one for the team and bought a ticket.
He’d seen Palin before, in Alaska, but now she was coming to his home state, to “the Fairbanks of California” as he called it. I was interested to see what his impressions would be, and eagerly awaited his phone call last night. He’d scribbled notes furiously while sitting at the event, and in turn, I scribbled furiously during our phone call. The following is a combination of his impressions and my own thoughts.
*****************************************
The country music blared, the crowd was already on its feet cheering, the gigantic American flag was draped across the back of the stage, and red-jacketed, black high-heeled Sarah Palin strode on to the stage to thunderous applause. This was not a VP campaign stop in 2008. This happened yesterday in California, and it was Sarah Palin’s first speech after telling Chris Wallace on Sunday that it would be “absurd” for her not to consider a 2012 presidential run. This was her first campaign speech for the presidential primary.
Palin’s appearance was hosted by the Sierra Cascade Logging Conference, and the Redding Convention Center was sold out. 2000 tickets that ranged in price from $50 to $75 a piece were gone in less than an hour. Another appearance was hastily added for a few hours later. She is rumored to have pocketed $150,000 today.
Her mission was clear – generate grass roots support, and reforge her narrative for the presidential challenge ahead. Gone were the snarky swipes at Obama, gone was the “mean girl” rhetoric, gone was terror talk. She hammered home a populist message, punctuated with tales of her own accomplishments when she held elected office in Alaska - tales spun from the revisionist history found in her best-selling book, Going Rogue.
Free-market principles, and limited regulation were touted. Big banks and big government were in the cross-hairs. Environmentalists were the enemy-du-jour. Palin was back in the “Real America” and the logging crowd was on its feet.
“You’re proof that the best of America is not all gathered in Washington, D.C.!”
“The government needs to stop playing politics with your responsible livelihoods!”
“You guys were doing ‘green jobs’ before they were cool!”
She said that she and her family knew what it was like to have a “politically incorrect” job because they’re fishermen. Over and over the message was, “I’m one of you.”
The anti-evironmental sentiment could not have been clearer. The one-time governor who sued the federal government over listing polar bears as an endangered species, came out swinging. Global warming, she said, is ”a buch of snake oil science.” She told the crowd how pleased she was that President Obama was not more successful at the recent climate conference in Copenhagen, calling the lack of progress “providential.” She wanted him to fail. Climate change is, she said, “bogus.”
Her speech was peppered with negatives – Van Jones is a communist, Nancy Pelosi boo hiss, but she was speaking with a voice designed to rally the troops. “Government bureaucracy has broken faith with the people that they are supposed to be serving,” was the message that was repeated over and over again.
She brought up the fact that the “lame stream” media had been making fun of her for having notes on her hand. She’s a busy hockey mom, she told them. She writes notes everywhere. As a matter of fact, she had notes on her hand tonight, she told the crowd. She showed the palm of her hand and read the words, “Loggers rock!” The crowd went wild.
Eight year old Piper Palin made an appearance on stage at the end, and was acknowledged by her mom. She stayed while Palin signed copies of Going Roguethat audience members had brought with them to get the coveted signature. The book tour is officially over, and yet Palin is appearing across the country at events just like this. She is no longer selling books. She’s now selling herself.
She is using the same rhetoric, and the same populist appeal she used in Alaska when talking about the oil companies, and the corrupt Republican good ol’ boys. Her establishment of “ACES” (Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share) which imposed heavier taxes on big oil is now in danger of collapse. The Republicans she fought so hard against are seeking to dismantle what happened under her administration and pass new measures that would act as a billion dollar gift to big oil. When Palin left office, it was under the guise of being able to help Alaska from the outside, rather than the inside. But on ACES, her only bipartisan legacy, her voice is silent. Instead she’s telling funny jokes to the logging industry.
“When a tree falls in the forest, and there’s nobody around to hear it….”
“what happens to environmental lawsuits?”
But before you start thinking that Palin is just a carbon-spewin’, polar bear drownin’, coal burnin’ destructionist, she did concede that she does consider herself a conservationist. “I named my daughter Willow. Isn’t that granola enough for them?” Apparently that’s all we environmentalists (assuming that we are “them“) need to make it all better. Just get fringe right wing presidential wannabees to start naming their children Rainbow, and Tofu and Daffodil, and everyone will live happily ever after.
In 2006 it was Conoco-Phillips; at the Tea Party last Saturday it was terrorism; today it was the environmentalists, but the formula is the same. Each day and at each event, she will create a custom-made dragon and ask the crowd to join her in the slaying.
As the overwhelmingly white, older, working-class crowd made its way out of the building, it was obvious that they were impressed, and there wasn’t anyone who believed she wouldn’t be running for President in 2012. To Palin, these sell-out crowds who give her ovation after ovation mean one thing – God has opened another door, and she’s ready to plow through it.
[Geoffrey Dunn will be a guest on today's Shannyn Moore Show during the first hour of the show that starts at 11am Alaska time, 12pm Pacific, 1pm Eastern. Click HERE to listen live!]
Where’s the beef? She needs more than a fairytale to get a real job and I’m afraid the ex-Gov’s resume is one of quitting. So the only group she can lead and associate with, are those of quitters, losers, and liars.
A real grass roots Party is not going to pay the recent VP candidate of the last election, of a major opposition party, $ 100,000 to give a speech. Sorry Sarah, you are in the Party who’s bad ideas “common sense solutions” destroyed the US economy. Sorry, Sarah, you sound exactly the same as Bush.
Sarah may never run for President, or she may become a perennial spoiler like Ralph Nader. Either way, she’ll continue to allow her fans to believe she intends to run so they’ll continue to make donation$ to her SarahPAC. She’s a celebrity and it’s all about the money.
She makes me sick. Everything she stands for is just wrong and I hate to see her making money out of this.
Also too, how juvenile of her to continue this ridiculous writing on her palm. Grow up Sarah and get some sense, you are a granny now. Why don’t you start behaving like a woman your children and grandchildren can be proud of.
According to Howard Finneman (sp) on KO, even the Republicans are embarrassed by you.
Redding is the redneck, fundamentalist capitol of the west. Pictures of the conference attendees show her usual crowd of white skinned, white haired, overweight fans who spouted that she’s just like us. GAG!
Feeling a bit nauseous myself, now.
Ickickick.
Off for a strong dose of vitamin T. The Teens in my library are the reason I get up and go to work every morning. They are young and kind and intelligent and strong and brave and open-minded… the perfect anti-$arah serum.
I give thanks for the power to grow each day.
Have a good one, everyone.
Thank you, Mr. Dunn. I will say this again. The woman frightens me. This kind of appeal she has is the sort that will grow. There are millions of Americans who are feeling (rightly or wrongly) disenfranchised, and she bleats the words they want to hear. Her flock responds to juvenile blandishments. Her flock needs to hear what she says, and she feeds to their fears. And, those fears give her strength.
Yes, she has no great intelligence. But, she does have manipulation skills that rival the ball and cup touts on any corner of a good-sized city. Rubes crowd around those people, knowing in their hearts that they will win. And, that is Mrs. Palin. Playing the rubes for all she is worth, and loving the fact that fleecing can be legal.
Thank you, AKM for bringing this latest chapter to the fore.
she scares me too
I had heard that she used to have a more moderate view on climate change before
her “rise” to celebrity status. Now she calls it bogus. Why does she get away with her inconsistency, lies and hypocritical comments? If she were a man in the spotlight even their supporters would be running for the hills after, palmpilotgate, propertytaxgate,Rwordgate,
e-mailgate etc..In this case the sexism is working for her instead of against her.
Gee, she is a busy mom who writes notes everywhere (gag). What do her notes say? “Kids, bring mommy some tacos, or pizza with everything”. Plus, there are millions of mom’s in this country…let’s start a poll to find out how many write notes on their hands, especially if they will be on national tv?
one? ten? 200? a million? ZERO? …sounds correct.
Then she writes notes to her hubby, “Todd, I need you to appoint someone to fill that vacant seat on the board, do a backgroud check on a CEO, make some policy decisions for for me, sit in my meetings for me……………mommy will be in the suntan bed.
Sounds to me like someone who is to lazy to work.
I can hardly wait for Mr. Dunne’s book to be out. He should plan to follow it up with a second one as he certainly has gleaned a great deal of material. With her writing on her palm yet again, she’s acting like a spoiled child that has to keep an argument going, just to have the last word and be *one-up* on the other guy……she is so juvenile!
We should not get complacent where she and her followers are concerned. She may not be terribly bright and up on economics, national security, etc., but she is STREET SMART when it comes to knowing what to say to get support from certain groups of people. Those are the ones we need to be wary of, along with her backers. Now that the Supreme Court has taken away the last safeguard of election-buying, the money folks who want to purchase a puppet president have ripe pickings with Palin. Now that she has broadcasting facilities being built at her compound, she’ll have a more extensive platform for getting her messages out than she has had with her FB pages.
We can only hope and pray that she will finally be exposed and prosecuted so all chances of her getting any where near the White House are totally obliterated.
Snow has been falling all night here in SW KY – 5 inches now and it is so beautiful, but has once again paralyzed this area with everything shut down.
Elizabeth Warren (TARP Watchdog) has written an excellent article in the WSJ. If only the Wall Street crowd would heed her, the economy might improve at a faster rate.
I vaguely remember the literacy tests that were finally outlawed in the 1960s that were such an impediment to blacks being able to vote. Rachel Maddow read off a number of them last evening – how appalling! Yet this is what the Teabaggers, Tom Tancredo, Pat Buchanan, and others of their ilk are wanting to bring back. It was sickening and so sad that Tancredo could make the comment he did the other evening, and not one Republican called him out on it.
I’m glad that Meagan (sp?) McCain spoke out against Palin’s support of Rush Limbaugh. Her book isn’t due out until August and I suspect it might have some interesting tidbits that don’t put Palin in a good light.
My goodness, we have a consensus here this morning – Several of us are applying the term juvenile to her!
I agree with #6 jimzmum. Someone please please pretty please make SP go away from the national spotlight before it’s too late. We’ve set a precedent for electing a daft President and it can happen again.
And, once again SP schleps Piper along and parades her on the stage…
Who can Palin demonize next? She actually said “she’s a busy HOCKEY MOM?” Since when? She hasn’t done anything for her children’s sake IN TWO YEARS.
As someone who has never had the luxury of family close by, I can promise you that if I had access to two sets of grandparents, my children would never but uprooted to drag around the country. They would have been in a stable environment, living their own lives–NOT MINE.
Barf, puke and retch. The woman has no shame, and I say that as a Republican. Are they seriously saying that she raked in even MORE money at the logging event in Redding than she did Saturday at the quasi-k.k.k. hootenany? This is jaw-dropping sick!
Palin cherry-picks her events, specifically to fleece lascivious loggers or drooling senior citizen teabaggers. They probably ran out of the little blue pill in Nashville last weekend. Palin tailors her ‘speech’ topics to the suckers de jour. She can smell money thousands of miles away, and she shows plenty enough leg & thigh to make the lucrative Palin lap dance a money-generating lock. Can I use the word wh**e here? That must make Mr. Ex-half-governor the guy sporting the fedora and flashy bling, huh?
I’m beyond appalled. She prostitutes her children, dragging them everywhere when they should be in school or in competant care. Her language ‘skills’ are deplorable… I love how you guys call it “word salad”. (And the “crusty croutons” are in the audience, one of you said.)
I will follow this story to the ends of the earth, if I have to post on 10 sites per day for the next 3 years. Thanks mudflats – you do a great service exposing this charlatan. Somehow, this She-Monster’s ambition must be squelched. My fondest dream would be to see Rush Limbaugh be the one who ultimately topples her. SPLAT! As much as I have misgivings about our current Prez, I hope he never utters a comment about Palin, who is nothing but an annoying, illiterate gnat in the grand scheme of things.
As was mentioned the other day, who will Sarah be representing for her run? GOP or teabagger party?
The other night, she said Toad was NOT a Republican…he’s too conservative for that. HMMMMMM, we know what that means–(AIP) So, is the GOP willing to nominate a canidate that has come out and said that their spouse doesn’t believe in Republican values and is a known secessionist? How would that playout with the GOP and Homeland Security?
If Sarah thinks she is going to run…..wait until the FBI, CIA, NSA, Homeland Security, etc take a look into her background and associates. She doesn’t know what vetting feels like yet, but she will. Could she even pass the test to get the highest security clearance in the land with her shady “terrorist” associates within the AIP? It seems she really DOES pall around with terrorist in the AIP and there is plenty of video and information to prove their influence on her govership (Salon.com had and article last year where members said they had an “open door” policy with the governor).
Now we know that Todd was running the show, most likely for the AIP. Is America going to allow a secessionist in the White House? Since Sarah likes to pass everything on to Todd, will she pass on the nuke codes or inside intel on to Todd that would benefit the AIP?
There is some serious digging that needs to be done in those emails, plus the others must be released
Does Piper go to school?
Here’s a comforting thought…you can’t win a nationwide election solely from a base of old white people, and by the time 2012 comes around, many more of them will have died due to our failure to pass health care reform.
Sarah’s base is literally dying.
A comment I read on a blog this morning, relayed that Fox’s largest shareholder is a Sheik. If true, think about the conspiracy behind this debacle called Sarah… (I’m refraining from name-calling.)
Dunn’s book is supposed to be released in April, and pre-orders are available at Amazon. I really hope fence-sitters read it. Let’s make sure and pass our copies around. There are people who are just oblivious, and come election time they need to have some education.
She’s Howard Stern with t-ts and high heels, nothing more, a current media sensation. If she tried to run for POTUS, she’ll fracture the R ticket and assure a D win, yeah for us (and polar bears, and trees, and clouds…). Funny she used the words snake and oil together, ’cause I think she’s a snake w/ big oil in her back pocket (wallet). She can sell her soul for money, and she may reap some material “rewards,” but in the end, karma will kick her in the backside. It’s inevitable.
Can she pass the literacy test?
@14, thanks for sharing. She makes me ill too.
I do believe she insults all thinking Republican’s. My husband is a Republican and is highly educated and intelligent. He thinks she is an ignoramus and an embarassment. If fact, his entire family are life-long Republican’s and they are shaking their heads in disgust at her ongoing display of stupidity.
She is a grifter, a liar, an opportunist, and evil.
I forgot……………junenile!
Really? Continuing to write notes on your hand after you have been caught?
OMG, what is she…….12 years old? Real Presidential of ya’, Palin.
Polly: “Dunn’s book is supposed to be released in April, and pre-orders are available at Amazon. ”
i’m going to go through the mudflats to the amazon and sign up for this book. something i’ve never done before. i’m hoping it will free up some of my time from reading on the internets constantly trying to keep up. aargh i can’t believe there are people who see her as genuine and honest. Honest?! aargh!
@17, Polly.
Good point and one that I believe needs more play. Sarah is zoning in on “terrorism” in her speeches. So, let’s take a look at the shareholders of Rupert’s international media corporation and see who is paying Sarah’s bills?
She’s keeps talking about “good ol’ America” and “American values”, and “real American’s” etc….yet she is working for an A-Rab?
And the walls, come tumbling down…
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/08/tea-partys-internal-skirmishing-follows-gathering/?src=twt&twt=thecaucus
ok i need help – i thought i could click on a link that would take me to amazon and AKM would get a few cents back on the deal, but was instead taken to a “mudflats amazon store” that has a limited number of titles. if anyone can guide me i will check this thread later, thanks. gotta work NOW.
I think we all appreciate that comforting thought FW. There is also the fact that if she is indeed unofficially starting her 2012 campaign run at this early date, can you imagine how tired people will be of listening to her screechy bromides by the time the primary race actually starts?
Not to mention the fact that are more than a few Palin shady financial dealings that are soon to be revealed.
Finally, Piper is once again on the stump with mom – does that kid ever attend school on a regular basis?
If she continues making speeches like she did in Nashville the Independents will not support
her and the Repubs know that, so they will not allow her to become the nominee. I think she will eventually be brought down by the party who brung her (the Repubs.) That would be great because then they couldn’t demonize the Dems.
She is trying to play both sides of the fence, the Repubs and Tea Bags, eventually she will have to choose. They don’t appear to be on the same page.

Where’s the beef?
****************************************************
All hat , no cattle !! We call ‘em “Drugstore Cowboys”.
My friend went to Palin’s Salina event last week. She’s not a fan, but her boss bought tickets for the office. Her boss is not a fan either, but had to go for business and appearances,… My friend and her co-workers were angrily shoooshed! for poking fun during the speech BTW. My friend’s boss got up close to Quitty and said she was nice but a bit un-hinged. Also too, the looks are going down the pooper.
I hope McCain loses big time, maybe once he’s OUT, he’ll be free to speak openly about Palin and her ilkyness. That would be fun
What a great title (and article)
Sarah Palin gives hand job to Tea Party Movement

How appropriate is it for her to be paid for giving a political campaign speech?
And when the hell did Alaska’s fishermen become the returning vets of Vietnam to the American public? Since when has Alaska’s fishermen been in anyone’s crosshairs except PETA? Salmon and Halibut is Alaska’s bread and butter, in league with timber after big oil. Coming from Western Alaska’s fishing culture, this is news to us that we aren’t PC. She can go F herself.
God, I hate this celebrity, and that she gets to use MY great state and her rediculously thin record of accomplishment (if there is no follow through and every one of her successes are revamped or unrecognizeable, does it continue to count as a success?) to sell herself.
I think this fits in right here. Every time the nimrod of the north bumps her gums , her inane drivel will be dissected.

Thanks for the link Paula. I guess she will even have to choose between the battling groups of Tea Baggers!
The one group didn’t appear to approve of her speech or PalmPilot!
But the tea-partiers are screaming, “Run, Sarah, run!” At the Nashville party on Saturday, someone in the audience asked her about the prospects for what he called the “two words that scare liberals—President Palin.”
Let’s be clear on why those words should terrify anyone with a thinking brain. Palin is someone who has clearly never seriously thought through any issue of national importance on her own. She’s excellent at reciting a raucous speech, but she can’t improvise a coherent sentence, which usually reflects an inability to form a coherent idea. (At Nashville, she even had to scribble her five-word legislative agenda on her palm, and glanced down at it during the Q&A.) She is deluded enough to believe (or at least to say Sunday morning on Fox News) that her brief, aborted stint as Alaska’s governor gave her more executive experience than President Obama has even now. She believes that the country should elect leaders, including presumably herself, who seek solutions in “divine intervention.”
Is this how Republicans who aspire to true leadership want to shape their party’s ideas and their country’s discourse? If not, they should hop off the circus wagon now.

Dismiss her at our peril:
http://politics.theatlantic.com/2010/02/sarah_palins_presidential_strategy.php
It’s time to organize those organizations that will be needed to combat this dingbat; organizations that have had success in the past…Friends of the Earth, the Sierra Club, even the oil industry who she made into evil monsters when she was gov. If Sarah Palin were elected to the WH, then 2012 would indeed mark the end of the world.
Sarah Palin is the Antichrist
She can laugh all she wants about writing notes on her hand and the fridge and on the back of Todd’s head. The bigger issue with writing on her palm is that she got the friggin questions beforehand! How spontantous and mavericky. And she still needed a crib sheet.
I think in an odd way, Sarah 2010 is a bit like Obama 2008. People who love her tend to see what they want to see and hear what they want to her. They project their fears and hopes and dreams onto Sarah.
The big difference obviously is that the president’s audience was smart and committed to change and hopefull. In a way that’s why some are disappointed with him, because they expected too much.
Sarah’s audience is small minded, terrified of change and insular. That’s why the “He’s not like you and me” screed works with them. She is navigating in some very choppy water here and I don’t think she has the chops to get it right. Whatever right is.
At first I thought she was just stupid. Now I know she’s stupid and downright scarey.
“A busy hockey mom” ?!?! Gimme a break. None of her kids is playing hockey. She’s been dragging her poor 8 year old out of school and propping the kid up on stage at evening events for years now. If an 8 year old were working on a movie set, the law would require a tutor be assigned to teach her Monday through Friday.
Then she makes fun of Willow’s name in the course of ridiculing environmetalists – how would your average teenager react to that? Maybe her classmates can start calling her Granola.
And still no indications that Palin has arranged for a trained person – or anyone, to provide her downs syndrome child with the necessary, stable, daily multiple therapies to maximize his development.
I would more aptly describe Palin as “a busy, child-neglectin’, child-abusin’ mom.”
She is SHAMELESS and that is why she is where she is. She tells fresh lies to whatever audience she is in front of.
No one hates fishermen! People object to netting everything in sight and then letting good fish die in the nets, like the big commerical boats do, but again, she just lies.
Rove knows this is infuriating to liberals because we are logical and fact based. She accuses everyone else of doing what SHE does, like “makin stuff up.”
He speeches are all mean and snarky, no matter what the subject. Instead of all the Obama snark, she used treehugger snark.
ugh
She is without a doubt the most frightening cretin in politics today.

You are spot on about the tutor. Just WHAT is the law in Alaska concerning attendance for school age children ?? WTF ??
OMG!!! I am old, white, and overweight. People are going think I’m a teabagger……..

Good morning Bea.
I’m trying to understand something. She says she is against Big Government and Big Banks. But Small Government would lead to deregulation and free market capitalism which leads to Big Banks (and other monopolies). So how can she be against both?
Not to worry. The moment Baby Jane Hudson “Declared” her candidacy, she put herself under the biggest microscope of all. The I.R.S. Have fun boys. Need some help?
Barbara @22 – I also went through the Mudflats link to Amazon to pre-order Dunne’s book, but it isn’t showing it as available through there yet. I did go to the regular Amazon site and emailed the question as to whether I could pre-order from there and give Mudflats the credit, but no response yet.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Sarah has dis-enrolled Piper from school and is listing her as home-schooled. She could easily purchase one of those Christian-based homeschool curriculums to cover her a** and “prove” that the child is being educated. Apparently Alaska has no reporting/testing/etc. for homeschoolers, so there is no way to know if Piper is doing any school work.
What the HECK is happening in Wasilla???? Both IM and Phil Munger’s site are talking about a fire – seems someone had an anti-Palin on their roof, came home to find one of their buildings (garage?) on fire and their dog dead. Phil also spotted some people taking photos of him and his house, truck, etc., then got a screenshot from someone who saw it on the c4p site, referring to him and wanting photos and his address. Someone else also brought up the fire that killed that neo-natal nurse. If people are being targeted like this, it is no wonder that no one wants to speak up…….fires, dead dogs, questionable death……..what next???
And what’s this about Willow named after a tree? I thought Sarah previously said that Willow and Bristol were named after locations in Alaska? Didn’t she use the granola dig in reference to that lady from Wasilla who wrote that letter exposing many things about Palin? (I can’t remember her name.)
“I named my daughter Willow. Isn’t that granola enough for them?”
Such respect she has for her children. God help them.
Also too, what the heck is the difference between reading a typed, prepared speech and almost never looking up as you deliver it and using a teleprompter?
Lip stick?
To Palin, these sell-out crowds who give her ovation after ovation mean one thing – God has opened another door, and she’s ready to plow through it.
I sure hope her ego gets so inflated that she tries to run… and then gets that door slammed on her ass as she tries to get out of its way.

Milk that cash cow, s’error!

Funny she used the words snake and oil together, ’cause I think she’s a snake w/ big oil in her back pocket (wallet).
———
Interesting point, Paula. But there’s more. Think of her act as being similar to a snake oil salesman… what is it that she’s selling to her crowd of suckers?
She is an ignorant, brazen, nasty woman, spewing venom and hatred everywhere she goes. Even if I liked her message, I would be appalled at the snarky, mean-girl delivery (“Isn’t that granola enough for ‘em?”), which I guess tells us something about the people who love her. Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot of these pitchfork people.
She has left a blatant trail of corruption and graft behind her up there in Alaska. I understand the state itself is too corrupt to do anything about it, but where is that big ol’ federal government Department of Law when you need it? Please, someone lock this woman and her band of cohorts up and throw away the key!

hhaaaahahahaa, no… hhahahaha… do you really need to ask that question??
She’s barely literate… and sure as hell doesn’t know a whole lot about the Founding Fathers.
Although this post made me ill, it also strengthened my resolve to be stronger, more informed, more “green”, volunteer in my community, and be more vocal with the fact’s. Stay strong fellow Mudpups!
Barbara to answer your amazon store question –I believe this is how it works – most amazon links often take you to a “store – that is just the collection of things selected by the owner of the blog the link is on – but once click on that blogs “cookie” for amazon is registered (I think for 48 or 72 hours) – so whatever you buy from amazon that blog’s link gets credit – to do it from the mudflats store link, click on any book, then click on the link that says how new and used are available that will take you to the amazon site page for that item and from there you can do a search for the book title you want and place your order as usual – and the commission will be registered as coming for mudflats store
What is even more depressing is that some in the MSM are actually handicapping her chances for 2012 instead of seriously studying what this woman represents. Handicapping her chances is merey giving her the opportunity to be taken seriously in many quarters when her they should be looking beyond the glitz and outing those neocons who are acting as her consultants.
She is being financed by Fox News, the Religious Right, and possibly big oil yet these facts go unresearched as they bestow credibility on her by taking her at face value.
We here may see the danger of this possible presidency but until the MSM actually weighs in with some real investigative reporting as this site does, the chances of gaining the WH increase as most people are content with the soundbites that are masked as reporting.
I, for one, am most uncomfortable with this coverage. The woman is wholly unqualified yet she is being treated as a contender than for the fool she really is.
thank you Lady Rose!
PJ…I agree 100%.
She’s for small Gov? So why did the State of Alaska guarantee profitability for the oil corporations, if they commit to send gas via the non-existent transcontinental gas line? That sure isn’t free market capitalism.
In every group..people will ..sort-themselves-out..into somewhat ‘like’ groups. .it happens more now then perhaps 200 or 4000 years ago. The ability to be ..thoughtful/evaluative..is always, always going to be within the ranges of low through high..and follow that ol’ ..bell curve. That said..the ‘carrying load’..of any group..similar to baggers..will create first..The Group..and then..the being restricted to themselves and the repeting of mantras/isolated informationbits, emotive exposures..lead directly..to a strange situation like echoes from a box canyon. The resonance..builds..overlaps, builds again..and grows to a shattering level of disharmony if considered politically..but a sonic resonance if considered..say like breaking a glass..with perfect pitch. The ..carrying-load..shatters upon itself..leaving shards..hither and yon..and the shards..are without the physical strength..to function as their protective-skin of ..’like ones’ did..exposing them soon, to depression, further lack of funds..and seeing a ..thin trail..suggesting to them..their dream..was ..’taken from them’. Further depression..and in the melt downs..2 people here..12 there..the redirection of their energys..into just floating..within their communitys..lost..yet again. The ‘taking out’..of a mass group of delusionals..like the Jonestown debacle..comes to mind. They died enmasse..but..the emotional death..is the situation here. Those who are limited as to ability..will Always become..manipulation fodder..and if they ..’can be’..they..’Will be.
I despise fascism in all its manifestations, including this self-promoting narcissist. You must read this:

Redding is a place where few Californians would want to be, seriously. I’m not surprised she got such a welcome turnout in such a town. I think what would be more telling is if she got such a welcome in the more populous (and more educated) Bay Area, or even L.A.
Did you mudpuppies see Michael Wolff’s insightful take on this insane woman? It’s at http://www.newser.com/off-the-grid/post/393/for-me-palin-scores.html
What hit home was this: “She’s eschews, even mocks, respectability, perhaps the thing politicians value most highly. And that it’s a woman doing this makes it all the more show stopping. Maybe it requires a woman. (Really, the crib sheet was cute. So junior high school.)”
Catch me if you can
Palin is no different than David Blaine, the magician/illusionist, who’s made a name for himself not so much for his feats of endurance/performance art but for his ability to draw attention to himself.
Her most recent stunt-floating the idea that she might possibly be a presidential contender-is merely intended to draw attention to her livelihood as a “performance artist”.
She’s too lazy to do anything but cash in as an itinerant celebrity speaker. Release her medical and income tax records? Not likely!
I googled ‘Palin covered in sharpie’ looking to see if any funnies came up and found this craigslist post in Tuscon. Hilarious!!

Since SP would like to get govt out of people’s lives and shrink it down, does that mean my family needs to start making our own ICBMs?
No more public schools? We just use Wiki-facts to learn us some nahlidge? Kewl!
Hey Piper hows that “home-scholing” workin for ya? Hey Pipe, if you read this blog, YOUR MOTHER IS MENTALLY AND MORALLY CHALLENGED and you can tell her I said so!
And I don’t believe WIllow was named for the tree, either. Even.
trisha: it gives me such relief when I read about people such as your husband who is a Republican but sees right through her (my husband, too). We need to hear more from these people, to know we are not alone. The only voices heard are those who have always been on to her (us) and her fanatic followers. PLEASE, anyone who can share stories like this, please do. We need to know of Republicans, independents, undeclared, whoever sees Scarah for who she really is. Especially since she’s apparently on the campaign trail. Those who wouldn’t ordinarily voice their opinions online need to know their voices are needed. She’s started her campaign, we need to start ours!
SP has god given talents, such as good looks, charisma, sex appeal, & communication. So she can rally & excite her crowds. I have some of the gifts mentioned, which have paled with age. But I was taught if these God given gifts were abused for evil intentions, they could be taken away, or could prevent one from reaching heaven.
I believe God can take away gifts in a moment, just look at Haiti for example (not to imply they deserved this, just the power of what can happen, to have fear). I think Sarah uses her gifts from God, in negative & self serving ways, which seems sinful to me. It also seems sinful to go around proclaiming your Christianity, whilst actions would suggest otherwise. Not trying to judge, just saying that I myself, have way too much respect & fear of God, to abuse his gifts.
I decided she was dangerous a long time ago.
Her appeal?
I get it, and am very sad.
Stupidity sells. Stupid, but dumb and dumber is Hollywoods fault. Dumb, low standards for everything from morals, to minds is a selling point. The whole celebrity media thing has dumbed America down.
She reminds me of Lola Montez, who danced her spider dance for the miners in California. (NO talent but racy).
She brought down King Ludwig who was besotted with Lola after she bared her bosom for him at first meeting. She was kicked out of the country when she fired a shot into the crowd and sparked a revolution of sorts. Not before the King made her a ‘Countess.
Lola, a made up persona, her father was Irish, was famous for her use of the horsewhip on those she disliked, smoking cigars, her hokey and untalented spider dance( she shed some of her clothes as she searched for a spider and sometimes didn’t wear underwear) and in her early years for her beauty. (Thick black hair, large eyes, good skin and figure.) She lost her looks in her thirties, but lived a scandal filled life adventurous life before she died relatively young (around 40 or so) in Brooklyn. I think she helped fallen women and wrote a beauty book.
Back in the 1990′s I was in Munich and they had a great display devoted to Lola in the museum there.
As far as I’m concerned Lola and $P are sisters under the skin.
Lola lived out in the American west for a time, but lived in India before being sent to Ireland (bad behavior) And traveled over the continent, to Australia, and the American west of the gold miners in the mid 1800′s.
CUNNING, CONNIVING, c@@@. I apologize for being so rude. We need to start slamming the doors in her face. Were there really loggers there or was the audience filled with her adoring fans. Did they ship them in?
I don’t trust anything she does.
Hi! Lifelong republican here! Until the last election, that is! As soon as McCain announced his VP pick, I did a double take, started doing research trying to find out all I could about her and said NO WAY! HUsband agreed with me! And he actually worked on Reagan’s campaign here in our home state many years ago! I volunteered for the Obama campaign because of my feelings about her! And I will continue to do what I can do to make sure she NEVER gets near the White House!
FlyingPigRanch: do you have most of your teeth? Then you will not be taken for a bagger!!
better to teabag with only gums!!!
TESTING 1 2 3
The issue is not how we see her but how those who support her do. They have no interest in looking beyond the pretty face and shapely legs as she calls out Obama when it is clear that she is mouthing the talking points of the neocons, chiefly Dick Cheney who she counts as a consultant and adviser, and is squarely aligned with the Religious Right as well.
I have seen “liberal blogs” take up her candidacy as a revenge tactic against Obama because they favored Hillary. I have seen commentators referring to themselves as “feminists” hoist her onto the feminist shield without regard to where she stands on women’s rights. I have seen diehard Dems being nudged into her camp on the grounds that she is being “smeared” by the press and portrayed as a hapless “victim”. This does not make me comfortable when comments and questions surrounding her fitness and her positions are presented and the poster is banned, deleted, or demeaned for raising the issue.
She could gain ground to some extent as long as the MSM continues to accord her the mantle of electability. And I will say it again, if she looked less than a beauty queen she would have disappeared long ago.

Link below mentions McCain filing a complaint about his opponent who was running for office while working in the media. Don’t we know someone else who is doing that?
__________
And, being that she’s going to “bring back integrity to the media”, wouldn’t that start with being an objective journalist who doesn’t get involved in the story? Oh wait… she works for FOX. Never mind.

Can she pass the literacy test?

hhaaaahahahaa, no… hhahahaha… do you really need to ask that question??
She’s barely literate… and sure as hell doesn’t know a whole lot about the Founding Fathers.
__________
She’d show up for the test w/ the word “vote” written in her palm!
Bea, That’s right, FOX is even building a studio IN HER HOME! Hard to deny media employment under those circumstances. Think she’s just keeping all her options open, but she would be a disaster as president. We should listen to Andrew Sullivan & have fear of her, since she is quite capable of garnering major support of the masses (especially those who are uneducated). Her success, in spite of her audacity, is what scares me.
65 laprofesora Says: We need to know of Republicans, independents, undeclared, whoever sees Scarah for who she really is. Especially since she’s apparently on the campaign trail.
In addition to my husband and his very Republican family, my family members are all Evangelical Christians and they can’t stand Palin!!!! They think she is mean, hateful and very “unChristian-like”.
This is the the group that Palin (supposedly) has in her pocket. Guess what? They can’t stand her either. My sister has a special needs child and she hates Palin. There is nothing Palin could ever say or do that would change their mind. They disliked her from the start (like me) and she has cemented their dislike of her over the last 18 months.
I think most of this is all media generated. They love a good conflict and promoting Palin creates conflict and viewership for them. As far as actual Americans who support her……I believe it’s a small, ignorant group of people who love to hate…..Palin is the ultimate leader of the haters. She is a divider. She will divide the GOP, the Christian Right, “Real Americans”, every group she touches.
AKM, haven’t commented in a while…what are your thoughts about this? If the economy doesn’t improve, won’t she win? There’s a thought.
Not surprised by her statements, but they will come back and bite her in the end. (Romney anyone?)
Other than that? No more school for Piper!
I don’t know if this will pass moderation, but WarAndG on Wonkette posted, “half of Fox viewers stand in front of the teevee with their cheeks separated just waiting for the smoke.”
I know this is kind of off topic but…. (I also posted on the open thread. ) The following is the response from Dr. Timothy Shriver to my email about Palin’s defense of Limbaugh’s “retarded” outburst:
“Thanks for your note. And I appreciate your concern over Mrs. Palin’s comments. Rest assured that on many occasions, I have written to prominent women about this issue. Sadly, the use of the R word is not restrained to one gender.
“In this case, we are working hard to not become entangled in politics. Both Mr. Emanuel and Mr. Limbaugh used the word in a way that called for attention. Mrs. Palin did not. Her opinions about others’ use of the term—like the opinions of thousands of people who have written to us and to others on this issue– are her own. If she herself were to use the term in a mocking or disparaging way, I would write her. But I do not feel it appropriate to challenger her opinions about others who use the term. In my mind, that would take me beyond my mission in this work.
“I’m expecting that you might disagree with me on this. If so, I regret that. But I also hope that it might be clear that all of us at Special Olympics are trying hard to elevate the voices of our athletes and their vision of eliminating the pervasive discrimination they face without overreaching. I’m sure we’ll make mistakes as we move ahead, but we will do our best.
Sincerely,
Tim”
As usual, Mrs. Palin gets a pass in her outrageous pandering. As I watched Stephen Colbert and John Stewart use this word repeatedly in their “satirical” pieces last night, I wondered why the Special Olympics really refuses to take her to task. Her statement on Fox has created an environment that has unleashed a barrage of “retarded” comedy sketches that would not have been aired had it not been for her apparent approval for its use in “satire”.
Bea, that’s a good point. Maybe McCain will also file a complaint against Palin who is running while being a “political analyst”. ha ha and ha ha
The “fanbase” does not care about her illiteracy, her lack of judgment, her incurious intellect, her screeching voice, her unability to speak coherently, her lack of a formal education, her truth stretching, her quitting, her dark religious beliefs, her association with neocons, her lack of substance, or her failure to pay taxes.
They love looking at her. She is pretty. She looks like a picture of motherhood as she drags Piper from place to place while her education is in limbo. She has a special needs child. The media takes potshots which makes her a victim in their eyes.
And it seems to be having an effect. We here may be skeptics but there are many others out there who see her as a beacon. It is enough to make me take up drinking since it is hopeless to argue with cement brains.
Trisha, I think it’s not a small, but a LARGE group, of ignorant americans who might support SP. You know, the “dumbing down” of the country overall. Most educated persons, who actually read about the candidate & issues, can see through her fakery. But let’s face it, our country has large populations of under-educated people, who fail to understand the issues. Sorry Alaska, but your state is a prime example.
I assume she won’t run for president as long as she is charging for her speeches and appearances. ALL real candidates are basically willing to speak free to any group of voters at any time to get their message out. Take a look at venues in Iowa – home of the first primary – and you won’t see any politician speaking for a fee.
Think Mitt Romney – that vile piece of garbage – would turn down a chance to speak to a group of prospective voters?
She better watch out for ELF when she spews crap like “climate change is bogus.”
http://www.targetofopportunity.com/elf.htm
What do you expect from a rebel with out a real plan? I think Palin should run for President. And if the Republican party is truly serious about her representation then they deserve the outcome.
First question she will be asked is “why she likes to pal around racists?” There is so much political incorrect material on this woman, that she is truly a gift from God. She cried when Obama became the celebrity and she epitomizes the word “hypocrite.” She is all smoke and mirrors. I will give her the occassional super speech for those that believe her banter. But for those of us who think she is as scary as scary can get- I think she will prove to a dud. If our country is in bad enough shape to have her as the President, then I am rendered speechless…
I have tried to open-minded about Palin as a mom, etc. However, I am starting to believe that she believes her own toxic comments. Pretty sad- considering that I had hoped that she would do good things for special needs parents, etc. Her defense of Rush was a big let down. Apparently, when it suits Sarah she is on the attack. I thought the “hand note” was silly but now I wonder if she should have the words “sell out” tattooed permanently. I realize the women is ratings gold but the media needs to start calling her out more to take on the liberal medias questions. She is laughing to the bank because she is a one horse art. The mule variety!!!
Can’t these people see she is blatantly sucking up to them? “I’m a hockey mom, I write lots of notes and look! I wrote “loggers rock” on my palm!”
WOW. The disingenuousness is so obvious. She just got REAMED yesterday for it and this is her way to cover up her stupidity and pander to people who should know better. Come ON – she is robbing these people blind and they keep throwing money at her! It’s truly a spectacle.
I’d like to just pull one of these Sarah supporters aside and ask them, honestly, if you had an employee who you knew beyond a doubt lied constantly about everything, sucked up to anyone who had any power and fleeced everyone for money – would you trust this person to be your manager, supervisor, CEO?? Let alone your President??! What??!
Stop the madness.
Oh, now writing on one’s palm will become a badge of Teabaggerdom! The Rand Pauls and Michelle Bachmans will cover themselves with sharpie-stains, in solidarity with Sarah Palin. Next they’ll start writing things on their foreheads or cheeks. It will become a fashion phenomenon, appearing on the runways of Paris as a kind of “edgy” right-wing chic.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/09/colbert-sarah-palin-is-a_n_454744.html
Colbert nails it. She is a hypocrite and, it’s true, Special Olympics should call her out.
I have given to that organization for years, but I’m having serious issues with their stance on this defending Palin on this. I am writing a letter too. I don’t want to punish the kids, but I’m very angry that they are unwilling to take a stand.
“prove to be a dud” “tried to be open-minded” “one horse act”
This is a real example of a woman who can not afford a ghost writer!!! Or a facebook writer. Mistakes and all it is all me!!!
Trisha- that was great on Colbert. The sad reality as there are people that truly believe in Snarky Parka!!!
Rene – the thing is, she is actually taken seriously! Our only hope is that she WILL run for president and she can not hide from the media scrutiny during the primaries. I can only hope that she will finally be exposed for the fraud she is then.
Palin claims to be a hockey mom but it’s been years since any of her kids played hockey. She uses this “mom” image all the time to sell her brand but if you look closely – she is not a mother to the children, she is never home! She is always off on one thing or another, promoting herself: book tours, conventions, speeches. She doesn’t care about her children or her family – only herself! I’m a working spouse and I know how hard it is to juggle family and work but come on! Can’t people see thru her? It’s truly mind boggling that so many think she is like them – she is a millionaire who makes more and more money every day. She is not like any of her followers, not in the least. It’s sad at the end how much they worship this empty suit.
The reason she doesn’t want the media around to record her rants is that if the public realizes they are getting the same leftovers from Salina, etc, they are not going to pay $100,000 for the same old same old. She doesn’t care about the bots, religion, this country, or anything else but herself. A perfect example of how charisma has suckered a large part of the population.
Rene: I am stealing Snarky Parka!!
PJ: somebody summed it up this way: They don’t care WHAT she says, only that SHE says it.
Lord help us all…
If you really think about it aussiegal, we do this with celebrities all the time. I will be honest. When Obama came to the scene I was totally happy. More so because of his intelligence. I am a fan of the guy- I admit it. However, if McCain would have won without Palin. I would have sulked but got over it until he made some bad decisions (I am an Indepent). I am actually more ticked off at the Republican party for not denouncing her bad behavior. I am a minority and really am saddened at the divisive tone in politics. It is like a flashback to the 60s and there is no civility. I don’t take Palin seriously besides the fact that she annoys me seriously. I think you can only fake it for so long. And once you get in the spot light- you become a target for the truth to come out. It always does. Every little thing that she does not want people to know is coming out. An, even if it is little threads of ampted up truth. And for that, I actually feel sorry for her. Confidence is a good thing but her hubrus might not be. She is the Republican token cheerleader. She will be pushed out to scream their battle cry but truth be known they don’t even take her serious. If the Democrats had a beautiful beauty queen the story would end. Simply true.
Here is what is scary about Palin: She has been getting a free pass since running for VP.
Kid gloves have been used on her in every thing she does, she pleads “I am a woman, stop picking on me” and in the same breath “take me serious.”
No one will ever get to truly question her nor get real answers if they do, she will say she is a maverick if she refuses to answer and the crowd will go wild.
She says she is one of us or just like us, did you know we are all stupid and a millionaire??
How she scares me is that no one who means anything is calling her out and 2012 looms big and loud.
Yes the dumb things she says goes viral, but those who follow her are not those who read the net or watch anything but Faux.
If she would get more then slapped on the wrist for emails and taxes then maybe more attention would be paid, but she continues to wink right through it all.
Be afraid, be very afraid, we did not think a Black man would ever be President and how proud we are, so why couldn’t an idiot make it as well, Bush did?
I pray Obama continues for another 4 year term, otherwise we are no longer at a cross road, we will be going downhill.
Bev- don’t worry. If there is one thing that Palin has done it has been to perk the ears of a lot of women. If they think that the tea parties were scary. Try ticking off a bunch of free thinking women. I would pay attention to the Independents- Palin wont be the President in 2012, there are a ton of people quietly scurrying because they know she is polarizing. She is there favorite cheerleader but they are not liking all of the cheers.
Lilybart- no problem.
Oh Sarah, BTW Ronald Reagan used a teleprompter. And he was really, really good at it, also, too. The thought of a hockey mom leading our country into a religious war is turning my hair even grayer. Also, too, when you get your 100K speaking fee do you plow it all back into the cause after taxes of course with deductions for hair, wardrobe, makeup, childcare etc.? Will you have death panels for dissident citizens? Or, should we just be making plans for leaving the country just in case you find an opening and think it was meant for you.
Lillybart, yeah I have most of my teeth, except for the wisdom ones. They spay and neuter pets and remove the wisdom teeth from us. hmmmmmm
As Colbert so succinctly put it las night: “Palin is a f**king retard.”
can you imagine her in a debate with Hillary ??
One of the biggest fallacies is her “Mom” image. Give me a break. She chose to bring that little guy Trig into the world knowing full well that he would need so much care and attention in realizing his full potential as a special needs child. Yet she is never at home. Probably handing him over to “caregivers” in place of a mother who should be by his side.
A real Mom would sacrifice her own interests to see that this baby was afforded all the time and attention he will need to succeed since she had the choice from the beginning and this choice called for sacrifice. Many parents face this every day.
But she seems less interested or concerned about bonding with this baby when so much of her efforts go into her own ambitions. Dragging him to those book signings half dressed and being beset by cheering crowds is no place for a child with this deficiencies. He was there as nothing more than a prop and guaranteed, when he advances beyond babyhood he will no longer be part of the scene.
As for Piper, why is that child not in school? That message alone indicates how weak this excuse for “motherhood” carries. If she is being home schooled than she should be at home, not cavorting in front of adult crowds, surrounded by adult handlers, and held up as yet another prop in her mother’s quest for attention. No one seems to be addressing these glaring lapses in her “motherhood” meme.
Her selfishness has no boundaries let alone her dangerous positions and unqualified experience to assume the role of Commander in Chief. But as long as the press, and those who fluff her role as relevant, these gaps will go unexamined.
A mother with a special needs child writes to Andrew Sullivan:
http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2010/02/a-mother-with-a-special-needs-child.html#more
Sarah clearly doesn’t write this stuff herself. I wonder who the puppet master is, the one(s) who have found this pretty wind up toy and given her their voice. Of course Sarah is a fake if she cannot remember her top three issues. (It’s not one of those gotcha questions like her favorite newspapers and magazines). I’d like to know who writes the script, pulls the strings and then makes sure that the MSM reports it without fact checking any of it.
Neocon President Palin
The Neocons don’t need Palin to actually run for president; they just need her to attract media attention to their cause (war with Iran), in the same way that she brought “Death Panels” into the national dialogue.
Lieberman, Kristol et.al. have been clamoring for war for ages, to no avail. Palin misquoted an anti-war article by (the very anti-neocon) Pat Buchanan, and suddenly the media are in a tizzy about the arguments for war.
It doesn’t hurt that the Rapture crowd are the Neocons biggest dupes!
SP must be just gleeful with pride because she’s the new queen of the “Palm”. Palm jokes abound now, with media anchors holding up their palms to the cameras.
I’ll bet she’s already copyrighted as inventer of the “Hi, Ma” and “Loggers Rock” insignia’s on a hand palm, she’ll make t-shirts, and caps, and lunch boxes with picture of a hand palm and the “speech du jour” theme on it, with her smiley face doin’ a wink!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/08/bush-billboard-looms-over_n_454056.html
If Palin runs in 2012 we can all use this picture and say (We miss you now!)
Hand message to Palin- Shut up!
Now the fiscal conservatives are taking swipes at her!
http://www.frumforum.com/sarah-takes-on-wall-street
Now that we’re officially heading for fascism and corporations can buy elections, the only question is:
Is Palin sufficiently useful as a sock puppet to manipulate and control the frightened old white Republican demographic and continue to suck the juice out of them? Those tools that sleek financiers and CEOs view with loathing and contempt. Invoke St. Reagan and the money pours in. Scare them with terrorists, and the money rolls in. Let them sneer and feel self-righteous about environmentalism, and the money keeps on coming. Abortion! Religion! Gays!
Yawn. The rest of us are tired of it all. I think the tools should keep on sending their money in by the truckload, while the rest of us vote for Google to rule us.
Palin: an echo of the Cheney/Bush ventriloquist’s dummy duo.
Remember that this is only a crowd of a couple thousand older white people who already thought she was their goddess. She gained nothing. The new writings on her hand that she thinks is so smart, just makes her look more juvenile.
Now Willow is under the bus.
Okay when are the real forces in the RNC going to steal her thunder. They need to get cracking & stop strategizing & get going. Apparently Redding has been innuendated with right wingnuts. When are these people going to realize she is not just like them. She is a multi-millionaire.
PJ at #70 –
“And I will say it again, if she looked less than a beauty queen she would have disappeared long ago.”
Y’know, you’re absolutely correct about that, and it can’t be repeated enough.
She’s a dishonest ho – I say “dishonest” in deference to all those working women out there who don’t make pretenses about how they earn their living.
Playing devil’s advocate, perhaps she’s starting her “run” now, so her PAC can legally pay her bills for her?
Anyone could read the lies of Sara!
Shown best in her Anchorage Board of Fish Meeting’s for Sara’s and Todd’s Bristol Bay Set Net fishery.
Juet review trhe records and tapes of that meeting! Many at the BOF websight ADF&G.

I’m not finished reading. I think I’ll need a cup of tea to make it all the way through. But, one thing struck me right away – since when is logging considered a “green job”? Did I miss something when I drove by areas in Washington state that were clear cut and look as bad as the strip mining in Colorado?
OK, back to reading. I have to wonder what all her new tea party friends are going to think when they find out that, after she told them not to have a leader, that she wants to BE their leader. Well, they probably won’t notice.
She’ll have the GOP nomination by mid-Feb 2012.
If unemployment’s at 10% she’ll have a v. good chance of being elected.
Folks in Limbaugh/Fox/red-state-consciousness info cocoon love her. No data one can produce will sway that love. In fact, negative facts will only strengthen it.
In Mrs Paylins world, any job that has to do with nature in any way is green.Shooting wolves= green. Clear cutting forest = green. Drilling for oilfrom under the ground = green.
Could you imagine if some of us went to our work and behaved like this….this is Palin’s work…and she acts like this…. I am a Massage Therapist, could you imagine if I wrote what to do and say on the palm of my hand and looked at it while my clients are watching……….I wouldn’t have too many clients, besides ink is very toxic to the body and the skin is the largest organ of the human body and oh well this could be a problem if she continues to write on her skin……..I’m a busy , single, divorced mom also, too, but I never write on my hands or my body, disgusting
I saw somewhere that protesters were at this event……..we will need to get organized if she does run….I agree with laprofesora

Of course her “don’t tread on me” flag of snake oil, comes from the obvious source, “way down younder in the land of Dixie.” Stars for Bar’s Forever!
I always liked Ben Franklin’s, real one better “join or die” however as anyone knows with a 4th grade education about “…the Night they drove old dixie down…”

OK, I finished. It just gets worse and worse with that woman. She will say whatever her audience wants to hear. Just what we need in an elected official. Can you imagine what would happen if she ever got to Washington, DC? Hmmm, since not everyone agrees there, maybe she would finally be silent.
The problem she will have is that to get nominated and elected president, a person has to talk to everyone, not just their base. And she can’t do it. She has so alienated everyone else, that they wouldn’t listen to that crap she lets fall out of her mouth. In the meantime, she’s going to be taking up everyone’s valuable time when we should be listening to people who are intelligent and have thoughtful reasonable solutions to problems.
And honestly. When is she going to stop with the “I’m just a hockey mom” bit? She hasn’t been a hockey mom for several years now, heck, she’s hardly home enough to consider her a mom. And for pete’s sake, put Piper in school!
A link to photos from the Houston rally is on wonkette. Went there and noticed in one of the pics with confetti that Piper has written on both of her hands. I wonder if SP encouraged her to do this, so that if she was called out, SP could demand an apology for picking on Piper.
I saved a copy of the pic and it does not show up well in enlargement, but writing is visible and blurred.
I think she uses these scenarios again and again for attention.
Yikes! She is a troll.
Palin knew her audience was red neck and cut trees for a living but the fisherman reference shows she did not really know them. Redding is a combination of some logging but also big water using agriculture. They blame salmon fisherman for some of the regulations regarding logging and habitat destruction, and the big ag interests want all the water and to hell with the fisherman (used to be one). A “woa is me” reference about fisherman is not a big deal, but shows one should really know their audience. Although the group should be happy that both sport and commercial salmon fishing has been virtually eliminated on the Ca coast.
Of course we all know Sara missed that Sunday School Bus too! She’s always been confused about God Green Earth!
Psalm 58
Do you indeed speak rightenousness, O congregation? Do ye judge uprightness, O ye sons of men?
Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; you weigh the violence of your hands in the earth
The wicked are enstranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies
Their poisen is that like the poisen of a serpant; they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;
Which will not hearkin to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely
Break their teeth o Lord, in their mouth; break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Lord…
It’s not just that she wrote notes on her hand—it’s that she had to consult those notes to answer a PRESCREENED question. Don’t let her turn ”handgate” into something it wasn’t.

Reassuring wisdom from the comments for “Palin Puts Together … Campaign?” over at The Atlantic (interestingly, by Marc Armbinder, not Andrew Sullivan):
“George P February 9, 2010 1:03 PM
The reality is this, in my mind: Sarah Palin is entertaining and certainly is a job creator within the Beltway and the media. And without a doubt she worries some Democrats. And is (I would argue) more of a manifestation of Teabaggers’ vague political agenda and real amorphous anger than a harnesser of that anger. And she certainly appears to have ambitions beyond her current position as whatever.
But here’s the thing. She’s not smart. And more importantly, her stupidity is impossible to mask because she refuses to acknowledge it or try and remedy it with policy knowledge and just plain knowledge. So it doesn’t surprise me when she is exposed for being venal, corrupt, and only interested in all things that make her famous. Of course she writes on her hand like a 12 year old cheating on a test – she’s simply not capable of thinking things through and realizing how stupid that will look when it is inevitably seen. And as I said, contrary to most people trying to address her weaknesses, she not only does not, but refuses to even acknowledge that they exist. In this way, she is a archetypal Republican – how often have you heard the Republican Party simply deny the existence of global warming, evolution, the-then pending financial crisis, the need for health care reform, etc.? The preferred response is to deny the existence of the problem and attack the messenger, which she excels at.
Her great weaknesses of stupidity combined with hubris will doom her. She’s not capable of improvement. As Forrest Gump said, “stupid is as stupid does,” and it will be her undoing. It’s simply a matter of time until she does something else irretrievably moronic. The real question is, how many idiotic and bizarre mistakes will she make before she completely melts down.
It’s like this – you can put somebody on the court to play point guard, and maybe she even makes her first couple of shots. But over time, it will become clear as she misses more and more shots, more and more wildly, turns the ball over, and refuses to practice much less hear advice that maybe she should work on her skills, that it is simply a question of when she implodes, not a question of if.”
In all sincerity, I will leave my birth country, America, and reject my citizenship IF this MOST DANGEROUS, EVIL AND VILE FEMALE [thinking she is really an animal, but even that's too kind a description] EVER becomes president because there is NO WAY she could ever be MY PRESIDENT.
Sorry, but Canada and France offer universal health care and better education for a fraction of the cost in the United States. This concept of Paylin becoming POTUS can ‘NEVER’ be ‘allowed’ to happen in this country because if we thought things were BAD [and they were excruciatingly horrible] under GWB, we all KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT, they will be the END OF THE U.S. as we currently know it and have known it. I can’t stay and witness the end.
Paylin is stuck now with the label of notes on palms. Now she will have to keep up with this farce. She is so dumb. What a retard.
Someone needs to do a real interview and ask her what exactly she stands for.Right now she is endorsing both John McCain and Rand Paul.
McCain–cashes his Social Security check and uses Medicare while being married to a multimillionaire heiress and receiving a Senators salary and benefits.
Paul– Wants to do away with Social Security and Medicare.
What Mrs Paylin believe is the right choice?

If America were to elect this Cheney-in-drag or a “Jeb Bush & Cheney daughter” combination, then I give up on the country. It will have become too late for redemption. These types of people out there spitting their lies and blatant fear-mongering (keep ‘em scared) are only too happy to keep the electorate as dumb and under-educated as possible – so much easier to manipulate and ultimately control. Goering knew that and used it to his National Socialist Party’s advantage in the 1930s.
Americans should be in the streets demanding far better education for their children, education that is based in fact and education which includes the rest of the world and certainly education that doesn’t pander to faith of any kind which certainly is a personal and private matter and not bandied about like some cheap circus sideshow.
It’s getting pretty weird and unless voices stand together and speak out, the country is in enormous trouble down the road.
I’ve done my best to avoid Palin like the plague or that episode where Kramer goes silent until an obnoxious, selfish comic played by Kathy Griffin breaks the silence… ‘you need to shut up!’
Palin’s selfishness is blatant on so many levels. She does not care about anybody except many, many Ben Franklins. Palin does not see the big picture or any picture for that matter. Does one really think that she can be an effective leader when she does not even care for the things she so regularly repeats in her stumps? Children, family, fishing, Alaska…
Her exploitation of her children to promote herself is more important to Palin than an education for her kids. Sadly, Palin’s MO has remained intact from her days in Wasilla. Let’s get this straight, her real God is $. The green trumps everything (see Wasilla Sports Complex in exchange for a sweet deal for me, Mining company gifts for me, I quit as Alaska’s governor to sell books about me).
There aren’t enough barf bags in the world to contain the vomit that is rising due to Palin’s re-ascendance. Alaska is oozing pus from her days as governor, bandaging wounds that her claws have caused in terms of ethics laws, pro predator control heavy boards, open-pit mining friendly state permitting, alienation of oil & gas producers etc… Palin left a mess that we are continuing to clean up. Imagine the mess she could make on a national and international level.
Her palms aren’t big enough for Wasilla let alone the White House.
I think Palin and her followers are dangerous, don’t get me wrong. I think they need to be watched and exposed for what they really are. She;ll try and get away with anything she’s allowed to and she must not be allowed. I think that conservative forces want to use her for their puppeteering plans sure, but at the same time I don’t think Palin is taking advice from anyone other than herself and the same close circle that she’s been listening to all along. She’s going to do what she wants and use who she can along the way, but that doesn’t mean she’ll cooperate with anyone. The studio being built in her home, to me indicates that she’s floundering outside her comfort zone and Faux is trying to help her get a grip. That and she can pretend she hasn’t abandoned AK for the lower 48′s money.
I’d be even more concerned if it appeared that she was moving towards the center politically, but she’s not she’s just doubling down on the crazy. The fact that she has established a cult following doesn’t translate into electoral victories in general elections. She’s solidifying her brand, making money and cementing her bond to her followers, but a couple of million people who worship her vs. a great majority who don’t and are turned off by her, is not a majority.
I also have a huge faith in the intelligence and goodness of humanity and President Obama, not a god-like faith, but I trust in the goodness of humanity and this President. Look at us, we’re all here at the mudflats!
All I can ask is:
Despite everything she’s up to, have her negatives risen above her posititives?
Has she done anything to reverse the damage she’s done to herself with the majority of voters?
Has she done anything to expand her base beyond the Faux Newsers, the birthers and the other conservative-crazies?
The same quaities that endear her to her base are the same things that scare and alienate the rest of us, is there anything about her or her “brand” that appeals to those in the middle?
I would venture to say that the answer to all of those questions is NO.
Maybe I’m just talking myself down, because the idea of a Palin presidency scares me more than Bush did in 2000 when I cast my first vote in a presidential election. I saw him then for what he was, thanks to Miss Molly Ivins. The majority of Americans figured Palin out on their own. The youth vote that helped Obama will never move in her direction, the people my age that I know, can’t even take her seriously. My peers that have children hate her for her treatment of her children.
That and we have AKM on our side
Every time I hear “Money” by Pink Floyd I think of the Wasilla grifter. In case anyone is wondering about the words, here they are:
Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay
And your O.K.
Money, it’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands
And make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I’ll buy me a football team
Money get back
I’m all right Jack
Keep your hands off my stack
Money, it’s a hit
Don’t give me that
Do goody good bullshit
I’m in the hi-fidelity
First class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet
(Sax and guitar solos)
Money, it’s a crime
Share it fairly
But don’t take a slice of my pie
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil
Today
But if you ask for a rise
It’s no surprise that they’re
Giving none away
Away
Away
Away
Away…
Thank you AKM & Mr. Dunn for this write-up on she-who-should-not-be- named. Even if it did leave me a a bit depressed, these sort of ‘reality checks’ are necessary to expose this grifter for who she really is. We all know the price for not vetting properly.
As an Alaskan, even though I didn’t vote for her in Alaska’s 2006 Governor’s race I still feel that we as a state let the nation down by not properly vetting her the first time around. Had we done so, she may have not have won that race and thus we probably wouldn’t be seeing this slow motion horror that is slowly unfolding before our eyes.
While I can see the reasoning behind many here who wish that she run so that she can get a proper vetting from the nation at large (with the assumption that she would never pass such a thorough exam), in some way I think that is letting her get dangerously close to gaining a 4 year residence in Washington. If ‘Dubya’ was able to ‘win’ for two years in a row, I cannot rule out something like that happening again.
This is why I think the time to discredit and expose her lies through investigative journalism is now, so that she will be thoroughly discredited before the primaries even start. Works like Mr. Dunn’s ‘The Lies of Sarah Palin’ will surely advance this effort.
Haven’t had time to read all comments, so sorry if this is a repeat.
Just got this notice from Amazon.com – Dunn’s book release is delayed.
We’re writing about the order you placed on January 26 2010 (Order# 102-0997370-2163416). Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below has changed, and we need to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:
Geoffrey Dunn “The Lies of Sarah Palin: The Untold Story Behind Her Relentless Quest for Power”
Estimated arrival date: August 02 2010 – August 06 2010
For everyone who thinks they will leave is she is elected…..and I am one also, too …..the country will have to be in terrible shape for her to gain traction and win.
It’s a chicken-and-egg argument. Will the country go to hell if she is president or does the country already need to have gone to hell for her to be elected in the first place?
I say the only way she ever wins is if things are already SO BAD that no one cares about anything but personal survival!!!
Sen. Joe McCarthy looked unstoppable at one time. He had massive impact on his victims and on the American pysche. But it came to an
- E N D.
McCarthy was more intelligent than Palin and consequently less useful as a puppet. So he was allowed to be eliminated as a contender for leadership.
When Palin’s handlers are confronted and stopped, this circus will end. Understanding Palin’s lies is one step on the route to the prize, a very big step. In parallel, the discourse has to shift to regulating her enablers.
I’ll be re-reading the tale of McCarthy in between visits to themudflats. There be an answer in one of those places!
Did she mention about paying her back taxes during her speech? =) She needs to put a big fat “L” on her forehead with a sharpie.
Is Levi J. really writing a book? Oh heavens.
I think Sarah needs to shave her head and join the skin heads in Idaho.
She is carrying “their” flag.
I also think the Republicans don’t know what to do with her. Also, they are pissed at McCain for bringing her into the national stage.
Now the problem is how to get rid of her without destroying theirselves.
The old saying is that if you s&**# in your nest, you will have to lay in it.’
Perhaps we can all write to CNN and others to stop giving her “free” media time. Let her pay for it.
Another comforting thought: those GOP guys who all want to be president are not going to just step aside for her. They are going to bring all of this crap up again and try their best to destroy her.
There are McCain people who know about Trig. They asked her to prove the maternity of that kid and she refused them too. I am sure that some in the GOP know and they will use it if they want to bring her down.
Many others covet the White House and they will not be nice this time. Although they may deeply regret letting the monster get this powerful in the first place.
I’ve had a comment sitting in moderation since early this AM and I think I finally figured out what is holding it up. So here is my message, with the name of the website changed.
Both Gryph and Munger have items up about someone who had an anti-Palin sign on his roof, came home to find a building burned down and his dog shot. Also, Phil spotted some guys taking photos of him and his house. He also received some screen shots from the XXXX website that mentioned him by name and suggested getting photos and posting his info. That message has now been deleted from that other site. Also mentioned was the suspicious fire of the neo-natal nurse. It is no wonder that people won’t speak out if they are afraid of vandalism or worse.
Zyggy: I think at this point she is wearing her ‘tax evading status’ like a badge of honor on her sleeve. Seriously…
Just a side note the Right is happy that Palin scares the left. Don’t fear the woman. Let’s be real for a minute. If Palin would have stood up to Rush, there would of been a battle (possibly manufactured but a battle nevertheless).
There has to be a psychologist on the Fox team. And I am not meaning by giving sessions…
Think about it, Palin does something goofy and we all get in a uproar because we think she is moron. More power to the Right, we are the evil haters and she becomes the fragile woman underdog that is protected. She will never fight the right. Suttle ticking people off but not a take out barracuda style. Michelle Malkin who is terrified to really call Palin out for supporting McCain knows that if she takes on Palin she will be gone. If nothing else the not so politically smart Palin may be smart out of sheer luck. She has become an idol of common man who really don’t see she that she is by all means (now for sure) the type of politician they do not like.
People keep waiting for some big scandal to become public and get Sarah to finally sit down and shut up. (Or is it shut up and sit down? I had better make a note of it someplace where I won’t forget).
Sarah was revealed to be using cheater notes because it is so hard to remember your core beliefs while giving a speech to a friendly crowd and an interview to a friendly questioner. Her response was to mock anyone who was stupid enough to think that cheating is stupid. “Hi Mom,” “Loggers Rock,” are just the first of Sarah’s newest handwritten slogans. (Does she actually write them herself, or does her ghost writer do it? Is Sarah right handed or left handed?)
It reminds me of how Sarah reacted to the Branchflower Report which found that in Troopergate, she abused her office of governor. Sarah said that the report cleared her; case closed. When Geraldo Rivera was commenting about the OJ Murder Trial (that’s a long time ago!), he often said, “Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?” With Sarah, she can say that the sky is green, the grass is blue and the loggers, tea baggers and Fox will nod their heads in agreement.
Another website is publishing a detailed list of Palin properties and financial statements. It looks as if the Palins may have accumulated more stuff in the way of cabins, vehicles, homes and more without having the income to pay for all that stuff. If they were gifts, they should have been declared and taxes paid. I recall a similar scenario with Ted Stevens, who may have been found guilty but will never serve time because the prosecutors appeared to “throw the game,” I mean, committed numerous errors, darn the luck.
If Sarah’s taxes, Legal Fund, PAC are found to have a few problems, she will claim that the government is out to get her, and once again, she will play the victim, a role that she has performed so well in previous appearances. People are waiting for other bombshells regarding illegal business deals, questionable parentage, anything at all, and I see Sarah holding up her palm with the latest Sharpie Slogan, “I didn’t do it,” crossed out, and penned underneath “Stop picking on me.”
Please tell us that Geoffry Dunn’s book is going to do some damage to her!
I strongly suspect that Sarah has disenrolled Piper from the public school system and now lists her as being homeschooled. She could easily purchase one of the Christian-based curriculums offered for homeschooling, which would provide the little proof that might be required by the school board. From what I understand, Alaska has virtually no reporting or testing requirements to verify that a child is, in fact, being taught. The IRS also allows certain expenses for homeschooling to be deducted, so she’d probably take advantage of those credits as well.
Gibbs takes a shot at Palin – Has written on his palm, “milk , bread, hope , change ”

Off to find that link for Shannyn’s show. Ya’d think I’d finally wise up and put a shortcut on my desktop, eh ? Maybe today will be the day I remember!
wow
Glad to see that my message finally got through. I never gave it a thought why so many use terms such as sea of urine or similar……whereas I had used the regular name and I guess that’s what knocked me out.
As to Sarah referring to naming Willow after a tree, didn’t she mention in her book that she named both Bristol and Willow after locations in Alaska?
VERY disappointed that Mr. Dunne’s book release is going to be delayed. He must really have scads of info that he doesn’t want to leave out. Can you imagine what a hit it would be if he and Michael Moore coordinated and got a movie on Palin into the theatres?
Wow, Colbert, Stewart, Maddow, Olbermann, the View… and the rest of them, you know, “all of ‘em,” they’re really trashing Palin, LOL. We’ll have handwritten jokes (literally) for weeks!

Ayup…..and toss in the religious part of it all…….. 15 crusaders slew 9 infidels……..how many more to slay?
I kid you not! I homeschooled my grandson years ago when he was dealing with a major illness and I purchased a number of materials on-line, some of them Christian-based, such as the A Beka series. no matter what the subject was, there was a religious theme to EVERYTHING. We are Christians, but I felt that it was a bit overdone for school textbooks and changed to another program. I find it incredible that there hasn’t been more opposition to the changes being made in Texas with the textbook industry, and the fact that it affects all of our schools nationwide.

I have been mulling over Sarahs similarity to Lola Montez. The woman who caused the abdication of horney old King Ludwig of Bavaria. She was a beautiful adventuress from the 1800′s who was famous for being famous. She ruled Bavaria for about a year, and was divisive, much like Palin. The old king was besotted with her.
She started out beautiful, a strong sex appeal for men. I won’t go into her past, and foibles except that the citizens of Bavaria forced her out of Bavaria, though former King Ludwig continued to send the woman he had made a Countess funds after his foced abdication.
At one point she lived in California, and wanted California to secede from the U.S. with the name Lolaland and with her as Queen. (Possibly schizoid at this point.)
She was famed for being a talentless celebrity, who would horsewhip journalists who pointed out she had no talent when she danced her famous Spider dance, shedding clothes and showing her limbs according to her whims.
A few unsolved murders along the way also, but she was never charged. One man was seen being thrown overboard after a violent argument in her cabin on shipboard.
Lola, went around with her horsewhip and pistol shooting at people who displeased her. Usually was a poor shot.
Franz Litzt split with her, locked her into their hotel room, and paid the bill, plus a generous amount for all the wrecked furniture he assumed would be the result of his leaving her for good.
Very good copy for the press all her life. Reviled, and despised. Her performances as a dancer at times resulted in rotten tomatoes and vegetables being thrown on stage, with catcalls. Audiences, older white males.
Noted for her constant lies, her very bad temper and her affect on men.
Also noted for her cunning and crudeness, though she was immensely charming on initial meeting.
I really think those two resemble each other in cunning, lack of intelligence and their star quality.
Once Lola lost her beauty it was over. Lola lost her beauty in her mid thirties a bit earlier, she used raw strips of beef for her skin, didn’t have botox, fillers, wigs and plastic repair work.
I absolutely love those signs, and those protesters! Woo – hoo! Well, I might take issue with that one person who made up their sign to say “Go Back to Alaska”. I could do without that one, but I completely understand the sentiment. Go back to Idaho, TWIT!
Everyone is exactly right to mention that this tact was what she did in Alaska while running for Gov. She went to each group, dressed like them, talked like them, made up or embellished stories related to them, and told them how much she understood their concerns. It is this chameleon ability coupled with her lack of compunction in making up lies that pulls the wool over people’s eyes. We Alaskans see exactly what she’s doing. She did it to us.
A small part of history (very recent) is doomed to be repeated because people will not come back to Alaska for information and media regarding Palin. We’ve been through it, and are busy documenting and recovering from it as fast as we can. But we watch as the Outside falls for the same tricks.
This is her MO. This is exactly how she operates. However, the only ones who bind to her in zealotry are the same ones who would bind to any other lunatic demagogue. We know examples, I don’t need to state names. The others, who don’t really know her yet but are still charmed, will find out who she is in time and dump her like a hot pile of poo. She still ends up with just the zealot factor. We have always had them, will always have them and it’s better that this is out in broad daylight where we can all clearly see these whack jobs and face them head on. Sarah makes sure that they are all rounded up for us.
It’s not going to be pleasant – nothing surrounding Sarah is pleasant! But there are going to be some great satisfactions along the way. There are many more slain turkeys, sharpied visors, and palm jobs in her future. She has taken on the persona of martyr to dizzying heights – but, it’s a long, long way down. She is all snark and revenge, with no sustainability. She just can’t finish the job – remember that.
I think it’s a sad reflection on how jaded people are when someone as silly, stupid and openly greedy / hypocritical as Sarah Palin can actually attract supporters. Since when was it ok to parade your ignorance like a hero?
I’m wondering how this will all turn out.
I used to live near Mt. Lassen, not far from Redding. That is the perfect crowd for her. There are many bible-thumpers and christian schools as well as several militias. The head of one militia ran a hot dog shop and always wore his handgun at his side. There are some really scary, backwards people up there.
Every once in awhile folks would come out of the mountains to do their laundry and they were REALLY scary!! Looked like a lot of inbreeding going on there. To give you an idea of how much church permeates everything in Redding, I went to the doc one time and saw his nurse practitioner. I had an illness and she said that if we held hands we could pray about it…I was flabergasted lol.
So, yeah, Sarah was definitely in her element up there. Luckily where we lived people were a bit more open minded and educated and we only had to go to Redding for major shopping at Costco.
My partner and I always thought that one day the militia was going to come to our home and kill us…yeah a bit paranoid, but nothing surprises me anymore and best to be prepared.
I hope Sarah is behind bars before she does any more damage. And put that kid in school, SHEESH
Corie
Cute comment from the Atlantic:
Sarah is a phony
Sarah is a fake
Sarah is the evil spawn
Of John McCain’s mistake
GreatGranny- I got cha. I homeschooled both of my kids and have seen A Beka and those other wacknut “text” books. Despite their lack of knowledge of the Bible, creation science or end times, my kids turned out quite well!
Great interview underway with Geoffrey Dunn on Shannyn’s show – If my previous link doesn’t work for you , try this :

Good info !
Martha – you make a good point. And it occurred to me just now that it is still a long way off from the presidential primaries. Palin is already making campaign style speeches – risking Palin Fatigue very soon. One can only take so much of her screeching.
If she goes around to every demographic group and shows them her palm with “*Insert Name* rock!” it’s gonna get old real quick and you know she’s a one trick pony. She says and does the same schtick every where she goes. So….maybe this is a good thing that she is starting now. I also glanced at a headline on HuffPo that she is assembling her political team. More freak show to follow. It’s gonna be a long summer.
I think in the long run, starting her campaign now will prove costly. Someone has already pointed out here that there are lot of other Republicans who want the WH. She’s acting like it’s hers to lose already. She’s already dismissed Obama – bad plan. Let her hubris get even higher, the fall will be spectacular. The other Republican candidates will not play nice once the time comes and you can bet they are taking notes of her performances, speeches and interviews now.
Funny pic, BuffaloGal! Thanks.
Martha Unalaska, I needed your words today. I will remember, and thanks for the boost.
Rene,
I’m a minority too and I am dismayed at the blatant racism at the Tea Party convention. If these people get into power, we are in hot water. The Bush admin already got away with torturing innocents and wire tapping, what more if people even more Right than him get back into power? I’ll be on the first plane back to Australia if that happens, thank you very much!
Palin is dangerous because she doesn’t care about the consequences of her actions. I hope her time in the spotlight will reveal the fraud she really is, like you say.
I support the President too and I still think he is the best person for the job, even though I don’t agree with some of his decisions. For Palin to get up and mock him and his administration with “how’s that hopey changey stuff working for ya?” line is despicable. She bailed on her post, she left Alaskans to freeze and starve while she lay on her tanning bed paid for by taxpayers and baked cookies.
She mocks people with an education and don’t think that’s lost on me how she mocks Obama (a person of colour) for not being experienced enough AND for being “just a law professor”. She is a racist person – no matter what Obama or other minorities accomplish in their life, she will always see them thru a biased prism. To Palin, immigrants and minorities are either servants, lazy or uppity or all 3. She may not say the words but her contempt for our President speaks volumes. I didn’t see her put Bush down and it is a commonly accepted fact that he is none too bright.
She is a disgrace and I think it is so unfortunate that some people who really DO care about this country think SHE is the solution. They will be majorly disappointed. She won’t do a thing to help them or us or anyone else. Palin only helps herself.
McC definately opened a Pandora’s Box when he
Didn’t put country first!
Doesn’t that Piper have any time in school???
When they say they want THEIR country back they mean from the black man.
When they say the country needs to “turn back to God” they mean prayer in the schools, gays in the closet (or prison) and women as breeders.
If we could only please god by getting rid of the homos we would have prosperity again.
Dunn just said that he’s found enough disturbing info on Palin that it makes him feel that she cannot be a serious contender. Says she’s a human wrecking ball that doesn’t care who she destroys and she leaves a trail of disaster wherever she goes.
Oh I wish his book wasn’t going to be delayed ! I’ll be looking forward to future articles as we wait for the book.
ausiegal: Miss O’silla has only one trick in her bag — snark. “…I had ACTUAL responsibilities.”
From the beginning she has been a snark machine with no substance, just rabble-pleasing one-liners. There WILL be palin fatigue if she does nothing new and she hasn’t seem to have learned a thing since the 08 campaign and it seems she takes no advice so yes, she will get old in more ways than one!
Glad to hear the Dunn book is political and not personal. Personal foibles don’t matter as much (except babygate) but showing her LIES about her record is VERY important and so I am happy to hear that he is neck-deep in palin doo doo.
Wonder if the email dump is helping him?
After thirty plus years in the Timber Industry in Southern Oregon and Northern California I can honestly say for the first time that I am ashamed and embarrassed for my industry.
Horrible woman. Her heedless ambition takes the breath away.
so did she wear her dress with her name written on the cuff–you know, the one she wore the night she wrote her notes on her hand? I was surprised nobody commented on that.
@ Downriver
I feel your pain. I felt it on Aug 29, 2008.
aussiegal- Sadly, I don’t think there are many true non-minorities if that makes sense. I would love to do a DNA test to find out my full ethnic background. I don’t know if Palin is racist, or if I would categorize the entire tea party as such. Unfortunately a few bad can impact the rest. And it is for that that Palin should quickly snuff that out. I want a Politician who is politically correct. I believe in country pride but I disagree with making others who are not from our country feel less. Do we win when we totally offend others by our banner of “we are better than thou.” There is a difference between what is literal and figurative. I am not sure if Palin got the difference in her English/Journalism classes. When I stop to think about what bugs me the most about her, it is this in the last 3 words. I am offended as a single mom and a non-traditional student who worked her way through college and was given a hand up – that a women can get by on good looks, ignorance, and hypocrisy. We need to hold our Politicians accountable and for me it has sure changed my opinion about John McCain.
I’m with the folks who don’t see her gaining any votes beyond her base. Why would all the people, Republicans included , who previously voted against her change their mind and vote for her now, esp. since the truth is (too slowly) coming out about her?
In the meantime, she provides a hearty distraction for the GOP nominee hopefuls who ARE positioning themselves to run; nobody’s paying attention to them now.
Rene@159 says: Think about it, Palin does something goofy and we all get in a uproar because we think she is moron. More power to the Right, we are the evil haters and she becomes the fragile woman underdog that is protected.
After some reflection and review of the TPN video, I’m convinced that Palin wrote on her hand for the purpose of being “caught.” Come on, she deliberately made it so obvious everyone would notice and start bashing her about it. She loves the attention, and she loves the opportunity to use these “gaffes” to energize her audience. Think of what Dunn says in the article here. She showed the loggers what she wrote on her hand: “Loggers Rock.” It smacks of the type of sly manipulation that is trademark Palin. She can’t win on substance, so she’ll game the system. You can’t use logic to outsmart Palin. Logic tells you that you should behave within accepted parameters in order to be respected. Palin has no conscience about lying and manipulating to gain the illusion of respect.
If you want answers on how to defeat Palin, watch all the tween/teen shows. The plots generally center around the nasty, manipulative character who is outfoxed in the end by the good guys. They just have to use her/his tactics against her/him.
Ponder this: Fox News is obviously pushing Palin on the country, when they know it’s completely wrong-headed. Fox is just in it for the populist ratings and the money.
If Fox was around prior to the 70s, I believe this would have been their ‘Fair and Balanced’ line up.
1950s – Support Joe McCarthy’s witch hunts (real American)
1960s – Support George Wallace over Kennedy
Anyone disagree?

Probably there will not be a Palin 2012 campaign. She is spending too much time raising personal funds and talking to unorganized people. Who could avoid developing a campaign strategy with inroads to various state organizations? Who would be turning so much money into their own treasury when they will need millions for a presidential campaign?
It’s like so many of her schemes of playing along to get every possible dime and use only a few close “friends.” She does not understand this country or national politics. She only understands how to make some personal money and stay home in Wasilla.
Colbert’s stmt about Palin had me laughing out loud at work. Always so embarrassing to have co-workers look at me while I laugh at my monitors. But he is so right, Palin is an effing weetard.

I have been reading comments here and am no longer rummaging through drawers looking for that leftover Xanax. How much longer can this circus possibly go on? Is it that there is simply so much material here that it would require a special prosecutor to sift through it all? The latest appearance in Redding seems like the pre-season rollout for the new test audience– it’s truly scary-time. She’s raking in major ill-gotten gains and yet the folks in her audience who we know have to be struggling badly in a down economy are lapping it all up. They seem all to have forgotten that connecting the dots reveals the hidden picture. I am actually embarrassed for them.
Just got an email update from Sarah PAC. OMG it’s been a year of this drivel already! I’ll post the plea in its entirety below but I want to highlight two things. She writes:
“Your involvement is an honor and your continued support is critical to provide the ability to support those candidates and campaigns in all areas of our Nation. ”
Oh, really? Excuse me but I’ll can decide for myself what constitutes an honor, thank you very much.
Secondly, are people so stupid that they don’t realize that THEY may contribute directly to any politician’s campaign they choose? They don’t need Half Gov Sarah to make those decisions for them. Oh, wait, maybe they do.
And she’s still pushin’ that Alaskan heart of hers. UGHHH!!
Here’s the plea:
Last month marked the one-year anniversary of Sarah PAC, and I want to personally extend to you my sincere thanks for your support and our shared goals of common sense solutions and values. It’s been an incredible year and 2010 brings us the opportunity to continue that success.
In this pivotal election year, we have an opportunity to focus our direction and spread the ideals on which our Nation was founded. There are ripe opportunities in campaigns across the Country and winning these races will be our focus. Thirty-seven Governorships, one third of the United States Senate, and the entire House of Representatives is up for election. There are State Senate and State Legislature races where only a few seats mean the difference between more of what we have seen or what we share as a vision for this great Country.
We are in a position to help make this change and I hope you will again join with us to renew your support of Sarah PAC. Your involvement is an honor and your continued support is critical to provide the ability to support those candidates and campaigns in all areas of our Nation.
I will be on the campaign trail for our candidates across this great land and with your help we can make our position stronger and increase our chances of bringing our core beliefs to the Country we love.
With an Alaskan heart and national pride, thank you for your generous support and best wishes for a prosperous and free 2010 for you, your families and those you love.

I’m going to watch this tonight on the treadmill.
I think this has backfired on the Special Olympics, because I am seeing people use it 1 MILLION times more than before. If the SO wanted to erase this word from the lexicon, they should have held $P/Granny Grifter to the same standard. Now they look like chumps.
I didn’t use the word until last week and am knowingly doing it now out of spite. Not on the developmentally disabled, because I know people who have development issues, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, etc., but on people and situations that are like the hypocrisy exhibited in the past week.
Palin could slap those teabaggers across the face with a dead fish and they would swear it was a bouquet of roses. There is nothing she could do or say that would change the minds of her followers.
On a lighter note, I read this comment today:
Q: What do you call someone who pays $100,00 to for a speech, only to have the speaker endorse people you don’t support?
A: A “Teatard”.
Thanks to silly Sarah, this is the nonsense I’ve learned from a poster on HuffPo:
“It’s sofa king we Todd did.” (say it out loud)
It gets past the HuffPo censors.
how come piper’s not in school??? writing on her hand like mommie..sad
Doesn’t her kid ever go to school? I guess dropping out and quitting is a family tradition.
Teatard! That’s a good one, now we can use Teatard w/out guilt or remorse. Hope that term catches on!
This morning we had a discussion with the therapist who is helping with my gorgeous grand daughters learning disabilities. She is 3,with the vocabulary of an 18 month old, although no obvious reason for it. The tharapist was talking about how we would need to make sure her teachers hold her to perfoming to the best of her ability, because being beautiful and cute can be a liability in that teachers should not,but often do,give such girls a pass and are easy on them. She said “” Because Jessica is Sarah Palin pretty”" .
I was dumbfounded.

I wasn’t sure which thread to post this on but, being as it has to do with $P’s speeches, I figure this is the one –
While doing a search I came across a post from a news source that was some sort of Spanish based . ( I took French !) I recognized a few words and knew they were referencing the “hand job” . Curious gal that I am, I ran a few paragraphs through the Babelfish translator . Here’s one of them:
>>> Perhaps most surprising it is than they were not sophisticated notes with percentage on political energetics, national debt or number of troops in Afghanistan, but ‘ talking points’ basic. <<<<
HA!!!
" not sophisticated notes" ( laughing really hard ) Her idiocy has spanned the Atlantic and is now irking Europe. I realize that the weird Babelfish translation lends to the humor but it's plain to see that her weakness is clearly understood beyond our shores , and , most likely, is raising questions of " what the freakin' heII is wrong with Americans ??? "
( " talking points basic " still laughing )
lamo Teatard. Teatard.Teatard.Teatard.Teatard.Teatard.Teatard.Teatard.Teatard.Teatard. and I wrote it 10 times and she’s still a weetard teatard.

From Crooks&Liars
http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/exclusive-sarah-palins-debut-motivat
After her Tea Party Convention speech this weekend, Sarah Palin flew to Houston to continue campaigning for herself. The news focused on her appearance at a Rick Perry rally, but Palin also appeared at another event in Houston: a “motivational seminar” at the Toyota Center at which she was the featured attraction.
As Richard Connelly reported:
The other event here was the motivational seminar at Toyota Center. The event seemed to be grossly oversold (Tickets were just $19 for entire office staffs to attend), perhaps because organizers thought people would only attend parts of the all-day event.
But no one told attendees that Palin would be speaking at 8 a.m., so bitterly disappointed fans standing in line at 10:30 a.m. weren’t happy.
Palin presumably was, having pocketed her fee for a 30-minute speech.
C&L had one of its friends at the seminar: Josef Jarod is a reporter in Houston, Texas with a background that includes work for Fox and CBS News. He presently is on a “mystery” assignment in the Bayou City.
Here’s Jarod’s report:
“I wasn’t motivated” one man said to me in the elevator as I left the speech, “she sounded un-prepared and erratic and focused an awful lot on her script.”
It was 9:30 AM, and Just half an hour earlier Sarah Palin had wrapped up a “motivational” speech about “achievement” at the Toyota Center in downtown Houston. Though Palin was to be the headliner of the all day business seminar which featured a dozen other speakers like General Colin Powell and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. She was the first to perform.
“I was also kind of amazed that they let her go first, I mean, we weren’t even all seated yet when she started.” Palin started her speech at 8:00 AM sharp, she was the first person out of the gates – there wasn’t even a Master of Ceremonies. And given the fact that morning rush hour in Houston was exceptionally bad today, it meant there were going to be a lot of unhappy ticket holders(particularly as some paid as much as two hundred dollars.)
“She already gave her speech?!” One man exclaimed in the lobby after arriving minutes too late, “What the hell, I was stuck in traffic… why wouldn’t they save the best for last?!” Several elderly women with Palin lapel pins who were trying desperately to hurry through security were also distraught when they heard the news, “Ohhh Noooooo! Nooooo!”
Sarah Palin had another engagement in California later in the afternoon and didn’t have a minute to waste. The speech itself seemed more like a sermon, Sarah frequently attributed “God” and “Jesus Christ” to lifting her out of despair. She gave several long rambling examples of tough times in Alaska, during which she would occasionally lose her footing and immediately jump to praising the state for it’s beauty.
She also focused heavily on her trade mark lines as a crutch. During one incredulous example of a way to get motivated describing a bed time fairy-tale she told to her daughter: “Last night Piper asked me to tell her a bedtime story and I said ‘YOU BETCHA,’ let me tell you about two brothers named Abel and Cain…”
The crowd was made up mostly of office-workers who opted to come to an “all day business seminar” instead of sitting in their cubicle and so the fanfare was minimal. As I gazed around the audience from my VIP seat – just feet away from the stage – I had the impression that most of those sitting near me were insulted. Sarah Palin was clearly still in campaign mode, but this wasn’t a crowd looking for a stump speech.
She ended by spending several minutes with her head down reading from the podium and gave a very abrupt and final “God Bless America” before departing the stage. As she left one man with a thick country drawl leaned over to me and said “you know, she’s not that impressive in person.”
She’s not that impressive on TV, either
@ OMG 200
The author of that article buys in to the whole martyrdom of Palin and how it’s all the media’s fault. Ho hum, he is under the Palin spell of stupidity. The one where they think she’s fresh. The one where they think she is courting each of them individually with exactly what they want to hear. They are low hanging fruit for the likes of Palin – we see them all the time. They don’t know her yet, they just think they do.
The media is fascinated with her, true – but it’s because she’s so controversial she gives them something to do. She’s reliably weird and will get ratings because of the fact that she’s a narcissist who has no shame or real knowledge, and no one can quite take that completely in and believe it’s true. The media has not performed their jobs to dig deeper, to investigate, to weigh, to disseminate real information. To ask the tough questions. Everyone is into reality shows and entertainment, and they want the media to be a combination of those two.
Sarah has always planned to “take over the liberal media” and get the truth out there! First she has to demonize her opponents (evil Katie Couric and all you female traitors who trash other women), then jump in for the kill (Fox). Ho hum Sarah, yawn, you’ll get old.
OMG@200, Thanks for the link (I think). Clearly, Ralph Reed is another whose sole purpose in life is to rewrite history. He beats on Katie Couric as if Katie did something awful and mean to Palin. Goodness. All Katie did was ask some softball questions that Palin could not answer. Why is that Katie’s fault? People have come to have certain expectations of a candidate for the highest offices of our country and Palin fell very short. The Media didn’t hide this, but still, that wasn’t the Media’s fault. I am so sick of the meme that Palin was treated unfairly by the Media. She got better than she deserved. It was only the blogs that pulled no punches.
Ralph also makes this statement: Had they simply been fair to Palin when she ran for vice president and treated her with decency, she would not be viewed now by so many grassroots conservatives as a victim of irrational elitist hatred.
Baloney! Had the Media pretended Palin had substance, or ignored her colossal ignorance, Palin would have a much higher approval now.
Now for a Sarah bashing or should I say real reporting:

Here’s what I told our Friends in California-
“The “corruption” that the Woman who was supposed to live in Juneau takes so much credit for going after was about as penny ante as you could imagine. She talks about the “bigwigs” that went to jail. Well, that would be a few Republican legislators and the aged president of what we like to call an “oil field services company.” In her last elected office she had no role, nor did Alaska’s Attorney General in any of the Federal investigations and prosecutions. The State of Alaska during the period she held office had no “corruption” cases going on that she can in any sense claim credit for.
When she was a Commssioner on the Oil a d Gas Conservation Commission (our version of the Texas Railroad Commission, in a sense) she discovered (suprise, suprise) that the Chair of the 3 member panel, Mr. Randy Ruderich who concurrently was (and still is) Chairman of the Alaska Republican Party was using State resources to “do a little politickin’. ” Righteously indignant, the WWWSTLIJ took him to task and resigned from one of our State’s most plum political appointments (she got it for running for Lt. Governor and losing, btw) and started boosting her own political fortunes.
I want to repeat- the “corruption” she talks about so much was some Republican legislators selling themselves for trifling sums to oil companies who in the end suffered naught. Bill Allen, former head of former VECO plead and squaled and played a big role in our losing (Republican) Senator Stevens to a federal indictment that was ultimately vacated by President Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder. The WWWSTLIJ is by no means a “corruption fighter” and her record – not her words – her record shows this to be true.

We have to worry a lot about Palin being elected. Stranger
things have happened. Think Adolf Hitler! He was ignorant, prejudice, a rabid-nationalist that brought out The hype-patriotism in his followers. Hitler used the same techniques to incite his audiences. He had great ambitions and thought that he was guided by divine intervention. He was able to gather people around him that carried out his fanatical desires. The good German People thought it could not happen there. It did! And
We all know that history has a tendency to repeat itself. We also know that if she could be elected that America Is experiencing radical inclinations that could lead any Where. Do you think that these Palin admirers would
object if she decided to kill all Mexicans or Arab people in the United States. Do you think that Palin could without Conscious dehumanize blacks, gays, socialists and incite the population to hate them also. Just saying!

Thanks!
Words to live by:
She who shall not be named (because she would never listen anyway) could learn a little from this. I think that it is worth meditating on for us as well (sometimes).
This is also in honor of justafarmer:

A commenter on Gryphen’s site posted that Palin should in Roller Derby. Snort, chuckle, sputter! I don’t know why that struck me as so funny but I can’t get the image out of my mind!
It is a “must have” to get a good dose of humor here or there to keep up the energy to go on when things look bleak and black. Luckily for me, Palin keeps providing it. And when she doesn’t, AKM does. Or another blogger, or another commenter.
It’s the black humor thing, isn’t it? Where no matter how awful something is, we have this need to laugh. Jokes come so quickly out of tragedies that it blows the mind and makes us wonder how deep this need goes.
Thanks Irishgirl!
Thanks to all of you.
When I watched sarah quit, I couldn’t help but hear the “Jaws” theme playing underneath. Something scared the $hit out of her and I don’t think that’s changed. Every time I see her ‘perform’, she seems to be desperately trying to outrun what will eventually bring her down.
sarah may see it as G-d’s doors opening, I see it as “fools rush in” and we all know sarah is a fool.
What is ironic is listening to people you know talk about how people will follow lock step with what they hear on the radio and on tv. That they are sheeple. Meanwhile those same people do not realize they are being led on by their fair and balanced tv and rush baiting radio hating talk show. That makes you really want to hit your head against a brick wall.
We don’t need Sarah Palin in ID, we have enough of the people that won’t look forward but spend all of their time looking back. Besides they hate anything that has to do with change. They blame everything on people who move here from other states. Yet they keep voting for the same old same old and wonder why people drive the 30 miles to Washington for better paying jobs. Basically anything Republican is good, anything Democrat is bad.
GA Peach – OK, I’m adding that music to my Roller Derby vision of Palin. Perfect!
“I named my daughter Willow. Isn’t that granola enough for them?”
*****************************************************************************
Actually, she named Willow after the state bird, the Willow Ptarmigan.
The reports are coming out that there were only approximately 1100 to 2000 people at the Palin Perry rally Sunday—not 8500 to 15,000 as some reported. They had areas roped off and pushed people together to make it look full. More deception.
Naming Willow after something green was fine with me. As a granola-eating Californian, however, I object to naming her son after an asphalt-covered oval.
Rob:
My husband has always favored her calling one “Car Port”.
I hope this saga ends soon. Stayed up too late again tonight. I will be sueing AKM for the black bags under my eyes!

Where do your children’s names come from?
TODD: Sarah’s parents were coaches and the whole family was involved in track and I was an athlete in high school, so with our first-born, I was, like, ‘Track!’ Bristol is named after Bristol Bay. That’s where I grew up, that’s where we commercial fish. Willow is a community there in Alaska. And then Piper, you know, there’s just not too many Pipers out there and it’s a cool name. And Trig is a Norse name for “strength.”
Tweetie (Chris Matthews) has finally called Palin. Thank heavens, it is about time. Good watch!!!
What did Matthews say today? I missed it.
Yesterday he called her a “balloon head”. Lol!!!

@ Jim Keating # 234
I read both your and Martha’s posts.
Jim, your post talks of the specter of Hitler and genocide of Mexicans and Arabs…..Essentially, fearful worst case scenarios if a Palin presidency should become a reality.
Martha’s responding post talks of being invigorated by the political process and how empowering it was to her personally…..the antithesis of living in fear.
My concluding observation is that both of your posts complement each other: Jim’s good general point (though hyperbolic) that a Palin presidency would be disastrous is complemented by Martha’s response that an empowered and involved electorate can make a powerful difference. You two are on the same side of the battle…..Internecine skirmishes are counterproductive.
Thank you.

33.Palin’s daughter Bristol (1990) is named after the ocean bay where the Palin family likes to fish. Willow (1994) was named after the willow ptarmigan, Alaska’s state bird. Piper Indy (2001) was named after the Piper cub that Todd flies and the Polaris Indy Snowmobile Todd drove on his first Iron Dog Race.f
Oh , and Irishgirl , do they have Red Bull or Mountain Dew in your neck of the woods ??
austin: Of course you may.
Hey Austin, where’s that lumber camp at?
Go Martha.
Speaking of the “real women hunt moose” bag, my 78 year old Evangelical mother was so ticked off by Palin supporters toting those bags, that she made her own. It said, Real Women Hunt Moose….with a Camera, Not a Gun.
BTW, she is a photographer and she spent last summer in Montana and Idaho shooting wildlife. That brave woman wore that bag all summer while surrounded by many Palin/birther freaks. Even though many told her what they thought, she didn’t care. She wore it proudly. Gotta like spunk like that.
Like I said, the is an Evangelical who can’t stand Palin. Seems like even Palin’s base is quite divided.
OMG OMG The media stopped talking about the Palins for 5 minutes.
OMG OMG Is that Trig in a balloon?

What did Mathews call her?
I’m confused. Or Palin is confused. Since when did cutting down trees become a “green job”? My Gawd, she is stupid.
pvazwindy -
Hm-m-m……..not sure. Lemme go back and research that. That’s what ya call clearin’ the brush…….or bush…….or something like that.
#292 Matthews said she was a empty vessel waiting to be filled by ideology she doesn’t understand.
But she is pretty much all the Republicans have. He wondered why she wrote on her hand and tried to hide it instead of using a notecard. The implication was that she is pretty much an empty headed dangerous person (wanting to go to war with Iran etc.) He seemed pretty exasperated by her and more then a little concerned about her rhetoric, as we are.
This woman is soooooooooo insecure. She wants to be Obama and she is down right jealous of him. She may win the base, but she won’t win the general election. I am sure that one thing that will get her is the babygate. Sooner or later the truth will come out.

I have been repeating this for over an HOUR trying to get it………rather slow at my age……DH walked in and immediately deciphered it for me. I’ll leave my dunce cap on a little longer!
As far back as the 1960′s we were being told that 90% of the America’s original forest had been cut down. Each year since about 10% of the remaining 10% is cut down.
None of it is really being replaced because the trees that are planted, if any are planted, are not genetically the same trees that were removed, and of course the natural under story and the microflora and all the fauna are unalterably destroyed.
The lumbering business is putting itself out of business by insisting on adding new acreage to its devastation each and every year. They are self immolating as fast as they can.
Why should we allow them to destroy every square inch of American’s forests along with the genetic strength that those forests contained, when they are putting themselves out of business intentionally anyway?
It is worth realizing that every tree that is removed from its ecosystem removes tons of bionutrients from that ecosystem. Remember the dust bowl and what happens when the soil is deleted and grows barren. That is what we are doing to our forests, even if we were actually trying to regrow them like they were, which of course we are not even attempting to do – since we are doing nothing, can do nothing to replace the quantity and quality of tonnage of bionutrients that we remove – with every single tree.
It is worth realizing that we cut down the biggest and the tallest, and healthiest trees preferentially. We therefore have decimated millions of years of selective genetic evolution that created the biggest, and heathiest trees. So even if we replanted with the same species of trees they would be genetically weaker than what we have forever destroyed.
“Lame Stream” media….she’s so cool. I think I’ll go throw up now.
Wow !!
Please take a moment and read the following.
A Lesson in White Privilege: What if Sarah Palin Were Black?
The impenetrable stupidity of Sarah Palin knows no boundaries. She wallows in mediocrity. Palin is the queen bee of a cult of personality where to be anti-intellectual is a trait to be rewarded. Ultimately, she presides over a confederacy of dunces.

Perry & Palin, Sittin’ In A Tree: Empty Seats, Bad Music And Lots Of Old White People
A couple of really late-in-the-stream comments. Redding isn’t really the “Fairbanks of California” — that’s probably Fresno. The defining feature of Redding, economically and politically, is that it is full of (almost entirely white) retirees (and, to some extent, their offspring). So it is, inherently, somewhat conservative, and always has a terrible unemployment problem. It’s the largest CA city north of Sacramento, so it has a decent-sized convention center; hence, the Logging industry convention. It’s also somewhere around the 20th or 30th largest city in the state, so an appearance by a nationally-known celebrity is a rare and big event.
There are very many Republicans in California — because even 20% of 34M people is “very many”. So, Sarah Palin can undoubtedly draw substantial crowds (although I wouldn’t call 2000 “substantial”). But there is no way that she will ever win California’s electoral votes, because there are very many more non-Republicans.
One last S’error/Texas thing.
Can someone please explain to me what the h-e-double hockey mom sticks S’error is wearing in this picture?

Mr. Chopra wrote his column on Sept. 5, 2008, not long after Palin was tapped by McCain.
Part of his post: “Obama’s call for higher ideals in politics can’t be seen in a vacuum. The shadow is real; it was bound to respond. Not just conservatives possess a shadow — we all do. So what comes next is a contest between the two forces of progress and inertia. Will the shadow win again, or has its furtive appeal become exhausted? No one can predict. The best thing about Gov. Palin is that she brought this conflict to light, which makes the upcoming debate honest.”
Overall, his analysis of Palin is excellent but I would say that his last sentence above has proved over optimistic and even charitable when seen a year and a half later.
While it’s true that her campaign presence and vitriol stirred up passions and conflicts until they boiled up to the country’s surface consciousness, the resultant debate HAS NEVER and WILL NEVER be honest as long as Palin and her blind followers refuse to debate the issues honestly. She and they deal in lies as if they are facts. How can a debate be honest when verifiable facts are willfully ignored……and lies are even more willfully propagated?
A year and a half later, there’s a more sharply divided country where even families and friends are no longer talking to each other in good part because of her nasty influence in politics.
Honest debate, Mr. Chopra?? Hell, I would settle for just casual talk with my Mother and siblings about political issues these days!
311@strangelet~yup~ nailed it there..Ca. may have it’s problems…whwn it comes to politics we sure stick together…teatard isn’t thought to hghly of here…
@ PepperzMom 312: That is Sarah’s “Harry Potter” outfit, last seen on her book signing tour. It features a black velveteen dress embellished with rhinestones, a chunky turquoise crucifix necklace, and purple suede knee boots. Classy, eh?
A comment on another blog regarding Sarah’s speaking engagements:
“I would have paid to NOT hear her speak.”
Marnie.. I live in the San Lorenzo Valley, which was subjected to clear cutting of the Redwoods to rebuild San Francisco after the quake in 1906 (?) , sections of it were left untouched, so we have SOME areas of old growth still here, Teddy Roosvelt visited the area and help save some of the old growth stands Big Basin and Henry Cowell parks ..and the rewoods have come back well- it grows back out of the stump, which makes for some interesting groupings, 4 or 5 trees in a circle around an old growth stump, when you stand on the stump and look up, it’s almost like being in a church… the pictures of bare hills is just brutal, and people her get all up in arms keeping the lumber companies under control.. erosion is a big worry here. Love Creek slide took out a number of homes and people ( just up the road from me, creepy area when I used to jog up there) so we’re very much in tune with what goes on here regarding cutting down trees…

fwiw, that Harry Potter outfit didn’t impress anyone in Texas. We usually walk the opposite way from women dressed like that! As you can imagine, Texan women tend to wear outfits more like Kay Bailey Hutchinson than Harry Potter.
Does anyone else remember the bumperstickers that said “Willow now and forever”?
Back in the 80s a bunch of sleazy grifter types based in the Valley wanted to move the state capital to Willow, which being just outside of Wasilla would have made Wasilla the de facto state capital. They owned real estate in the area and wanted to cash in. To rally support they used anti-government sloganeering along the line that governing out of Juneau was too distant and unresponsive, and this would return government to the people, etc, etc. If memory serves me, Alaskans had to vote it down three times to finally make them shut up and sit down.
Now I have never heard Palin say anything one way or the other about moving the capital, but I am pretty sure that those sound like her type of people.
I always thought poor Willow was named in a sour grapes pout for having lost that battle.
All of those poor Palin kids’ names are so ridiculous, it’s almost child abuse.
That outfit? Pure hillbilly bling.

I agree with you—-It wouldn’t surprise me if Fox News reported that the moon turned purple and the sky brown.
Like Keith O ., said tonight——these people don’t understand about climate change====it really means that when it is hot weather, it gets hotter, and during cold weather, it gets colder.
I may not have quoted him exactly, but something close to that.
Mr. Dunn aptly pointed out that Palin will continue to re-brand herself depending on what audience she is in front of. As the audience du jour becomes the audience of yesterday, people will find out what a fraud she is. Her policy speeches change from day to day and at some point people have to realize that she doesn’t know wtf she is talking about.
I refuse to attack her appearance or her silliness (well most of the time) , or the tabloid rumors that swarm…..I want to confront her on her substance and I hope the media will do the same. There is nothing there. Period. That will be her downfall. If she does try to make a run I believe the Republican hopefuls will take her to task in the primaries and put this all to rest. She will not survive simply because she knows nothing. I can’t wait to see how she transforms herself for the Liquor Crowd that is coming up (in Vegas?) . That should be interesting.
seattlefan: She’ll be able to write “lift American Spirits” again on her palm there. To remind herself to have a little drinky thingy.
One of the tea party thoughts on god from the Melinda Warner story on going to the “teaparty” @ #291
“Throughout history, Christians have always been the ones on the right side. Slavery was ruined by non-Christian slave holders. The Christians who owned slaves treated them well.”
WTF???? So that makes it OK????
This is why people like me start rabidly foaming at the mouth when faced with these people. OMG!!! I need to calm down now or I am going to blow a gasket (or bite someone). That takes some cojones to say in public. Good Christians all…
I do not associate myself with any organized religion but if I did, I would hang my head in shame. I realize that this convention took place in the south but REALLY??? I guess I am naive. I would NEVER speak at a gathering where that kind of sentiment was thought (to say nothing of spoken). Takes our exGINO to a new low. White sheets anyone?

@ R’ipley….. So Funny!!!
You have to wonder how her bots will reconcile her “fundie values” with a speech to a bunch of peeps who promote alcohol, drinking and the wild life style that they advertise. How will she bridge that message to her “Loggers Rock” speech and again to her Teabagger Ball speech. Will she say that drinking is a patriotic God-given privilege and that the Feds shouldn’t impede on Real Americans right to alcohol? Oh boy….I can’t wait to see how that one goes. I know I’ll be tipping a few that night and popping some popcorn.

GRRR…. The White House press guy Gibbs tweaked Palin today by holding up his palm with words written on it: “hope” and “change” if I recall. I’m infuriated! By even acknowledging Scarah’s juvenile tele-palm-ter, he gave her some “significance”. I was hoping like hell that the W.H. would pay no attention EVER to the she-devil behind the Harry Potter costume. P.S. I’m a Republican, and so is my whole family. Scarah makes our skin crawl.
Anybody know when the Vegas gig is? I wonder if it’s combined with her “teatard” hoo-rah in Searchlight, Nevada, seeing as the two towns are so near each other. I live near enough to drive over to infiltrate and watch the madness. However, I won’t pay squat.
Isn’t it just like Scarah…pick out the podunk Searchlight town for the event where she can hone in on the rednecks’ dollars. They’ll be buying her book with money they’ve had stuffed in a Folgers can buried in the desert sand for 20 years. Vegas proper will spit her out like a watermelon seed. Vegas has its own brand of “fake”, and she could never rise to that standard. Think she’ll try to drag one of her kids into a casino, the great mom that she is?

Well, Mudkitten …….. there was an email she wrote that came out during the campaign (wish I could remember where I saw it — maybe someone else will … prob’ly here on the Flats!). She was writing to one of her close staff (Ivy, Meg, maybe) and was bragging about how she just had to move the capital. At the time she was PO’d that she had to go to Juneau.

Are WE the ones who are putting the spotlight on her????
heidi when i go to huffington post from a link here on the mudflats, i get a warning of suspicious code to which i deny access. when i use my bookmark the page opens without incident.
Yukonbushgrma – Yes we ARE putting the spotlight on her. The problem is, Palin to us is like catnip or a dangling string to a cat. She is entirely too much fun to bat around. So in a way, we subconsciously don’t want her to stop, at least not right now. Soon however, the fun will cease, and it will be time to legally stop the monster. I think the American political machine will stealthily grind out a way to make Palin implode. Chances are though, with her ‘intellect’ and lies, she’ll beat them to the punch.
#335 Barbara – many thanks. I’ve been accessing Huffington Post via the daily email they send me, and encountering huge delays. I have a couple of other avenues I can follow, now that you tell me your situation. If I access thru Google, my anti-virus warns me of suspicious sites. HuffPo runs fine, because I get a green “safe site” icon. There is something to this, though. Better safe than sorry. I just had to take my computer to the hospital which they fixed for $70 bucks (virus), so now I’m suspicious of anything out of the ordinary.
@336 Heidi1:
Yeah, I have to admit I do enjoy it. But also, at this time — and until things change — we all DO have an obligation to show the world what an eedjit she is. Hopefully that great ‘intellect’ will take care of things, all by itself!
