I AM NOT speaking old growth here. It is sustainable until Governor Palin is elected President and fulfills her campaign promise of sending her Rapture-Ready minions along their way to paradise. The small timber operator is screwed, and so are the communities that they support. BUT that is the way it is. At least here in the PNW. Let's just look at each situation as it comes up and make reasoned decisions about what to do each time, instead of trying to either pretend any industry is all good or all bad. Some places shouldn't be logged, or mined. Some we can sacrifice. But make no mistake, the more we cut and dig, the less there is for the future.
